Thanks for the feedback. Not good, but realistic. A buddy of mine has scheduled a trip for September later this year, but he is ready for a 14-day confinement stay. He usually goes there for months at a time. As for me, I don't want to go through the 14-day confinement stay, as I usually stay only 2 weeks.

It was bad enough being old before this fucking virus. Now consider this. Older people it appears have a stronger chance of dying if they catch the virus. That is a given but I have heard no one mention the time factor. It would seem it may be next year before things return to normal. OK if your 40 years old that is not really that bad. Try that on for example if you are 74.

I am not looking for sympathy. Believe this or not I'm trying to make the younger guys on the forum look at the bright side as they have many more years ahead of them to partake of the festivities.

"It is difficult to get a straight answer as we also do not have the full picture here. But I try to give you a better understanding of the current situation in Colombia. 2 days ago the general quarantine was prolonged until the 25/5. National airlines told me, that they will take up operation on 31/5 again. The government said that also after the quarantine strong measures will stay in place. So it is not sure when people can travel within the country again. Most likely traveling within the country will be very restricted for some more time. Currently traveling from one town to another is not permitted.

My opinion is that also after the quarantine we will not be able to move freely within the country for at least another month. By when national parks, movie theaters, museums and nightlife will start their operation again is in the stars. I feel that we will face very strong restrictions for at least until end of August. I also postponed all my client trips until and with August to next year. Some of my local providers told me that they will not open before November. Also we do not know yet when intercontinental flights will arrive again to Colombia. ".

I'm sure all why'all are dealing with different situations and the difficulties of these messed up pandemic. I hope to see you in Colombia in 2021.

The specific example I gave is irrelevant now as the May contract expired on Tuesday. However, there's a rational reason the May contract traded well below zero. These are physically-deliverable commodities. If you are long the contract and you can't sell if before expiration, you have to take delivery. And to take delivery, you have to have an empty storage facility in Cushing, OK. Absent that, you could maybe transport the crude somewhere else where you had a facility (to a tanker at open sea is one alternative). Absent being fortunate enough to have an empty storage facility in Cushing, it's going to be very expensive to take that oil. Expensive enough that people were willing to pay you to take that hot potato off their hands.

The shale oil producers tanked so much that some have gone up 40% since the March low. The stock price is so low that you can just buy them for the long term with less risk associated with the future. I don't think there is a need to rush to buy.

You might be. Or you might not. I wouldn't rush in myself. I've been a small investor in oil for many years. Certainly a lot smaller now than when I invested. And there have been other times where there has been "blood on the streets" in the oil market. But then it goes to "more blood on the streets". It's possible that oil might never come back to what it was. Or to anything close. There are scenarios under which that might happen. And any particular investment choice you make could end up being worth nothing. More likely is that someday some of these companies might be worth something more than they are now. Now there's an investment plan.

By the way I am not talking about pulling out of my 457 or savings account to make such a reckless move, it's more of a lets play around with things and see what happens. I already kicked myself in the ass when I didn't get in on bitcoin earlier in the year when it was under 4 k. I know it's a different market but I have seen it over and over for myself. I say damn why didn't I get in? I just have a feeling that in 2 years I will be saying the same thing about oil.

I know the weaker Col Peso is good for us (assuming we can get there), but the economic misery this will cause for Colombia (and other countries that depend on exporting oil) is scary.

Maybe not so good for us if economic misery means more violent crime on the streets.
