Are you just a tourist or have the Brazil ID?

I had very hard time trying to get a sim in Rio. I tried several places mentioned on tripadvisor including two malls but was turned down everywhere because I didn't have Brazilian ID. Someone later on told me that I can get the ID from a place near Copacabana beach.

I would love to know how to get a sim in Rio.

You should not have a problem unless something loss in translation or misunderstanding between you and customer service rep. All you need is your Passport if your a tourist (Brazilian ID or CPF card not necessary) to get a sim card. Go to Rio Sul mall (https://www.riosul.com.br/) walkable right outside the Tunnel (Tunel do Leme Galeria Coelho Cintra) via Av. Princesa Isabel. Never had a problem getting Sim from either Claro or TIM in mall, they deal with tourist everyday. Claro and Tim each have two stores on different floors. It did happen where I for example went to TIM on 3rd floor and they sent me to the store on the 1st floor. Either way never refused a SIM purchase and related service (top-off minutes / data / etc).

I got mine from Claro store at Botafogo Praia Shopping.

You don't need a CPF to use a brazilian SIM card. It might be easier to activate it using a CPF, but as said it's not necessary. Btw, You can get a CPF as a tourist, it can be useful if you stay in Rio longer periods. You can get client cards at Zona Sul, Pao de Acucar etc and get good discounts.

On the first floor the gift shop use to sell sim also. I find it strange unlike other international airports there are many SIM card vending machines or mobile company selling SIM cards.

I ended up with Claro for 10 R per week with 2 gb or 35 R per month with 6 gb.

I am irritated that the ATMs don't notify you what the exchange rate is like credit card machines do when making a purchase it gives you the exchange rate in USD or BR.

I don't know about in Brazil, but some ATMs do notify you of an exchange rate and you have to okay it. In all of these cases though, it means you are about to get fucked. Do not okay it and it will revert to giving you the rate that it is supposed to.

On Monday I went to Claro store in Cidade So Paulo shopping mall. The guy wanted BRL 310 for the Sim and some data and he repeated the same price for another gringo too. I took a taxi to Shopping Ibirapuera and got my Sim from Claro paying BRL 10 for the chip and BRL 50 for some data. Surprisingly my old Rio de Janeiro Sim from a year ago was still active, but I had left it at home, because I didn't expect to be able to use it anymore.

The exchange rate is 4.56 today.

Banco do Brasil. I could not take out 1000 R said exceeds my daily max and same message when I tried 800 R. In the past I would get whatever the rate is that day.

Itaú. Did not accept my card from US.

Bredesco. Got 2.46 rate.

Santander. Got 2.36 plus 20 R fee. Which is also a banco24 horas.

Go to Both 50/50 split, flights between the two cities is one hour. Spend a weekend in each area. RTFs of each city it will be in your best interest to have a good understanding of each area prior to arrival since the mongering is different in both areas. You did not mention when you are planning to travel to Brazil? SP is a huge big city, with lots of activity. Rio has plentiful beaches and is laid back plenty of tourist attractions. The Termas should be something you like since it is close to Germany FKK clubs that your use to. I / we don't know your mongering style so its hard recommend one over the other just experience both and you can decide which one of the cities works for you.

It will be around May. After a little bit research, RJ is more termas and SP is more clubs and clinics. 50/50 might be a good idea. On the local sites, much more posts for SP than RJ, just opposite what we have here on ISG. Which makes me wondering why.

If it were me, I would not go to Brazil for less than 10 days minimum, and I would focus on one city (Sao Paulo). But if you are determined to do two, then I would say 6 or 7 in Sao Paulo and 3 or 4 in Rio. Yes, Sao Paulo has now surpassed my beloved Rio for mongering.

Totally not credible for me as housekeeping tends to be older hags interested only in finishing up with cleaning my room ASAP so that they can move on to the next one.

Most advised that it was less complicated just to pay for sex. The old adage is that free kitty-cat is the most expensive kitty-cat applied. Moving from a world of visiting, playing, paying and leaving to living among Brazilians opens your eyes to a totally different world. It did nothing but reinforce the advise I was first given. Also, remember that Brazilian women learn a lot from their mothers and Novelas (Soap Operas).

I must say that your experience in Brazil is 180 degrees different from mine. It sounds like you are talking about the Dominican Republic or Philippines. I can not think of a chick I know in Brazil that does not know her father or even whose mother and father are not still together. The chicks I know with multiple kids got them when they were married. If I know any chicks that have never been married that has had kids, then they have no more than 1; for most it is 0. And the ones with 0 are not trying to have any until they are someone's wife. I find it totally different from my country where a chick has kids with 2 or 3 different dudes on gp.
