Posts: 1984Taxi Service in Santo Domingo.
Oper Taxi is available via whatsapp: 809-XXXX555. You send a message where you are and if they have any additional questions they will send a reply. If not they simply tell you the color of the taxi and the response time. Now during the seven months I lived in Santo Domingo Este I used Oper almost exclusively as they had a staging area 5 minutes from my building. During those seven months I never (and I mean never) experienced a situation where a driver tried to charge me a cost higher than the standard fare. I never received poor service or general nonsense. I never got into a Oper taxi that where the vehicle was unsafe or filthy; nor did any of the drivers operate in a reckless manner. Those were my experiences. If the occasion dictated it Oper Taxi is my goto choice.
The advantage of living here is developing a knowledge experience base that is deeper and more extensive than anyone who is only visiting on a part time basis. Even my fellow expats share information with me I didn't know. It is the rare visitor that can arrive and show me something I didn't know about Santo Domingo / Santo Domingo Este. And when they do it's a most pleasant surprise. What I enjoy most about meeting with those that don't live here is the unique perspective they bring and different way they see things (Thanks Mr. GoGo). Of course that has a lot to do with the fact we are all different people with different needs and desires. It's a good thing we all have different tastes. Women who you don't think are hot need to get paid too.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm so barrio. But I happen to prefer that body type also. Over three years of living in Santo Domingo Este. So, I might know of what I speak. But you decide for yourself.

Posts: 4027I thought I mentioned that uber is not always ideal. I have no problem with anyone using taxis, it doesn't matter to me. I choose to avoid them because, among other reasons, uber's customer service includes lost and found, fare review (they issue refunds when drivers don't follow efficient routes or otherwise exceed normal fare ranges for given trips), driver background checks, vehicle safety features, GPS tracking for security and arrival time estimates, and so on. As I said, there are situations when taxis are more convenient. I will stay home or walk before I get in a carro publico. I'm not even going to discuss them but go ahead and try to convince us if you have time to kill.

Posts: 4027I struggle greatly to understand why anyone would continue to put up with the higher cost, poor service, general nonsense, unsafe and filthy vehicles, and reckless drivers that come with using taxis in Santo Domingo. There are situations when uber isn't ideal (surge pricing periods or scarcity of available cars) but in most every case it's a no brainier.

Thursday caught uber from Mixer nightclub on Espana to Boca chica for 460 pesos and this morning reversed it back to my place on calle 8 for 512 pesos. BQ was always preaching uber but as usual I didn't pay him any attention but he was correct. Newer cars and very professional. Uber is my new best friend.

I also went to the Carnival in Las Vega. It was very nice however getting a hotel was useless unless you had reserved in advance. My crew actually had to settle in a hotel in Santiago. It was a challenge mongering because our rooms were so far away from the action. There were very beautiful chicas in both areas. If I had to choose one it would be SD for the convenience.

Don't forget to buy "una bahina" to spank the chicas (picture attached)! You can find that at the entrance. Buy ear plugs, prepare your camera and have fun!

The SD parade is limited to the malecon only. It is shut down for vehicular traffic. The procession goes from the beginning near the Fort then to the west, probably ends at Abraham Lincoln. Obviously that affects traffic on the malecon but outside of that, nothing.
It will take place in 2018 on March 4th. Of course that'll only be days after the Independence Day parade. I've never been to the Carnival in La Vega or Santiago, but the SD one is good fun. The backdrop of the Carribbean Sea adds charm.

Has anyone been to the Carnival in SD that happens every Feb? Good place / time to get numbers from? Is the traffic a nightmare during this time?
Thanks.
