If I want to catch a bus in santo domingo going to boca chica is the area around the colonial zone the place to take this bus? Now I assume these are the good buses with ac and all that not the run down buses.

I take a taxi every time. No dissapointments and no annoyances.

Buses run about hourly down Av. San Rafael. You can hop on one of these and they take you to the main bus Boca Chica terminal. These are the same buses that come from Santo Domingo. From the Boca Chica station you can catch a bus to where you want to go. If I remember correctly the destination of the buss is above the windscreen. You get on the correct bus and when they get ready they leave and collect the money while you are moving down the road. I last took the bus to Santo Domingo in 2010 and the price was 60 pesos.

I often think it would be cheap to take a taxi to the Boca Chica station and then ride the bus to Santo Domingo rather than paying the $40 for a taxi all the way to SD.

If you have some luggage and you would like to book in advance its a fair question to ask if someone has been there.

You are correct. The thing is that at least to my knowledge, booking direct while on the spot after checking the room often times gives you a better rate in the D. R.compared to online rates.in the cheaper hotels at least. I have no idea about the all inclusive kind.

Most of Latin America the cabs are cheap to use. Not so in the DR. I'd take a bus over a taxi anytime in the DR.

Sorry, I fail to understand this. It is a $36 deal. At the most $60. If you do not book in advance, which is my preferred mode, you can most likely walk in and then if you do not like it, you are free to walk out and find something else. Can't be that complicated, with all due respect!

I would stay at Zapata just for the daytime action at the beach, you can literally cut off all the girls as they walk buy while your sitting in your beach chair.

It is apparently a new building and just one block from Duarte Street and two from the beach, looks nice and from $36 it is a good value.

If its on the way or not to far out and you discuss with the bus driver he will stop for you. They were willing to drive into boca chica and take me to my hotel but I just jumped out at the main road.

They are very helpful and the bus service extremely efficient and prompt. I could not work out how to get a bus from BC into SD, so just took taxi to metro bus station in SD for $40.
