Great stuff John! I'm going to Phnom Pehn for the very first time in a couple of weeks and your post will be very helpful. One question: I'm more into Vietnamese girls than Khmer girls. Is Darling and Martinis the place to go for good looking Vietnamese girls or are there other places with majority of Vietnamese? Thanks a lot!

In street 118 pass the Island Bar on left hand side when walking from River side and next 2 blocks have a couple of Viet style bars with even possible action on site.

Let me help you just a little, nowhere near the level that your report will help the first time monger to PP, but just a few answers to your questions. Voodoo is bang between Golden Vine and Zapata. They are literally all in a row. So as you said, French restaurant on the corner (La Marmite) , then Golden Vine, Voodoo and Zapata. As for Voodoo, used to be a favourite of mine when I was in PP, relaxed, about 10 Khmer all girl staff, from average to stunners and barfines all avaiable besides the cashier- good service fun bar, cheap drinks and a good pool table. Howies is right nextdoor to Heart Of Darkness. Basically between HOD and is that new biggish hotel called the Newcastle Hotel. Anyways Howies when I have dropped in for beers is generally dead with little to no girl action. That said, I like it for a chilled beer, as in its close to everything without the stress. NayNayStar sounds like a good place for me as I will be with the Mrs, but she will go off and do things with her friends so I can find time to play in the day. As long as I don't bump into any of her friends at any of the places I like to frequent. Hmmmm-I am so keen to get back to Cycree, you know exactly what you are going to get and the girls give pretty good.

Outstanding post, John. I just happened to have booked my next trip to Phnom Penh a couple of days ago. So naturally, I am looking forward to going back to my favorite bars from past trips like Colonial Bar, Zanzi Bar, Rose Bar, Lemon Bar, & Cyrcee and seeing if any of my sexy little friends are still around. And now after reading your summary, I think I will try to check out a few of the recommended bars on your list too like Top Ten, Oasis, Sizzlers and Red Fox that are new to me. That's probably more than I can cover in 5 days, but I will give it a go. I am also curious about the "well dressed" Khmer 'stunners working Darling Darling in Naga World. I have heard about them before, but I never went there. I will have to give them a look/see. Thanks.

Here's an update. After visiting yesterday, I'm happy to announce that the new owners of Plan B on 51 have hired a large number of new girls. Some of them are young and very beautiful. Take note however that at least a few of them are virgins who only work for lady drinks.

After living here for a little while, I've compiled my notes in an attempt to give a run down of what is available and what it's like. I wish I would have had something like this when I started out, though after doing it I understand why someone wouldn't want to spend the time. I say this is an attempt, because as Appendix II shows, there are plenty of places I still don't know enough about to include a review.

Exceptional report. I only wish you'd posted it a few months earlier so I could have read it before my trip. I'm going to have revisit Phnom Penh and it's all your fault.

II. On Site Facilities

NayNay Star – This is a large guest house with a big bar, pool table and food. Open 24 hours. Pool table and food are okay. There are many Khmer girls working here, but you won't usually see a lot together in the bar at once. They go out, go upstairs with customers and sleep. Depending on when you enter, you may see up to 10. The girls range a great deal, from 20 years old to approaching 40, dark skin to light skin, from slim and pretty to old and fat. You should be able to find something you like. Buy the one you like a drink or two then ask if you can go upstairs. Be careful with a few of the girls who push aggressively for drinks. Cost for the room and to pay the house fee is $12 if I remember correctly. Negotiate directly with the girl for her end privately. It should be no more than $30 short time, usually less. Long time is available. Motodops and tuk tuks pronounce the place 'nie nie' (rhymes with 'eye, eye') if they know it. If they don't know it, tell them to take you to street 102. It's in the middle of the street. You can't miss it. (2. 5/5)

III. Freelancers.

Walkabout – On Street 51 a little south of Sorya Mall. Probably the best known place for freelancers, though I don't know why exactly. Food and drinks are inexpensive. Pool table is almost always in use. Anywhere from 3 to 10 girls to be found at any given time. Most are older, bigger or generally less attractive than you'd find elsewhere. Most aren't particularly good performers either. Some Vietnamese girls in the mix. Open 24 hours, though the highest number of ladies can be found in the afternoon and early evening. Short time can be had for as little as $10, but you get what you pay for. Plenty of short time rooms available withing a 1 minute walk. (1/5)

Golden Sorya Mall – Forget about the full real name. Moto and tuk tuks call it 'Sorya Mall'. Located on Street 51 across from a few bars and up the street from Walkabout and Blackcat. Very cheap beer available. Plenty of small bars and cafes open and close here on a weekly basis. Sit wherever you'd like. If you're male and alone, it won't be long before you're approached by one or more of the freelancers here. This place is not to my liking at all (too many drunken brawls, vehicle accidents, child beggars and sellers; and the women are mostly bottom of the barrel) but it has it's following. Some of the girls here have been kicked out of other places like Walkabout for whatever reason and many are on hard drugs. Keep that in mind and make your decisions accordingly. Action is available around the clock, though the highest number of ladies are there in the afternoon and evening. Short time available for as little as $10. Plenty of short time hotels in the immediate area. (1/5)

Martini's – A little far from most else. Any moto or tuk tuk will know the place. You certainly aren't going to want to walk there. It's a walled complex with outdoor seating, a movie projector, an outdoor bar, some pool tables, and a little dance hall. Surprisingly decent food. Lots of girls work here, starting to show up around 7 pm. Most of them are Vietnamese. More than a few are strung out on drugs. For the most part they are of a higher quality than Walkabout but still far from excellent. If you wait for them to come up to you, you'll usually get approached by the older girls and the hustlers. The prettier ones tend to wait to be approached. No need to buy them a drink. Just sit down with them or invite the ones you want to sit with you and negotiate the arrangement. They'll take you to a guest house about 200 meters up the street. The guest house charges $5 for the hour, and also sells terrible condoms if you forgot to bring your own. Short time runs $20-25. Girls may quote higher if they think they can get it, but will be happy for this amount. This is a very easy place to arrange a threesome, though don't expect the girls to interact much with each other. (2. 5/5)

Sharky's – This place has been around for years. Tell any moto or tuk tuk you want to go to 'Sha-Key Bar' and they'll know how to get you to this place on Street 130. Has a few pool tables (though not free) and decent food, often hosts live bands of varying quality. The wait staff has one or two cute girls, but not available unless you want to invest a lot of time in trying to date them. One or two freelancers show up here after 7 or 8 o'clock. I've never seen one I was interested in at all. (1/5)

Heart of Darkness – A disco on Street 51 right across from Sorya Mall. It's been outpaced by Pontoon, but still brings in plenty of people after midnight. Be careful. Not everyone here is looking for a foreigner to pay them for sex. Plenty of Cambodians just go for a night out. Music is loud enough to shake your teeth loose. Often a large gay contingent. Free entry. Short time should be $20-30. Long time no more than $50. (1. 5/5)

Pontoon – Now the main disco in Phnom Penh (with the possible exception of 2 or 3 discos like Golden on 130 where Barang are as rare as hen's teeth). Plenty of freelances are joined by working girls from bars all over the city and plenty of 'regular people' too. Not every girl is working. Many are not. Girls there with their boyfriends and even some working girls who go here to have fun may not appreciate your advances. Music isn't too loud. Drinks are expensive. Action starts at 12, supplemented by bar girls getting out of work from 1 to 3 am. Thursday night is gay night, but still girls around. Free entry unless primo Djs are there, then it's around $5 to enter. Short time $20-30. Long time $50 or less. (2. 5/5)

Nagaworld – The big casino near the Independence Monument. You can't miss it. Lots of freelancers inside, Khmer and Vietnamese. Not difficult to figure out which ones they are. Tend to speak a little better English, though not always. Short time for $25-50, depending on your negotiation skills. (2. 5/5)

Darling Darling – Upscale bar inside of Nagaworld. Expensive drinks and live music from Filipino band. Very well dressed Khmer women work as freelancers here in the evenings. Quite a few stunners. Higher prices asked as their main targets are cashed up Asian guys. Rates vary wildly, but figure on $50. $100. (3. 5/5)

IV. Street walkers.

What Phnom – All around the circle that surrounds the what and on side streets you'll see lots of girls standing around from dusk until late. Numerous reports of runners, robberies and even guys coming out of the shadows to mug those who stop and talk to the girls. Most customers are Khmer guys, not Barang. Bar girls love to tell cheap charlies to go here when they try to low ball them in negotiations. Some women standing around actually don't look bad at all, but you have to question why they work the streets with so many other options available. Haven't tried any and probably never will. (never tried / can't score)

Riverside – A few girls walk around or sit on benches. They will make eye contact with single guys and say hello, waiting for you to continue the conversation. Be warned that most women here are not working. This isn't Beach Road in Pattaya by any means. (0/5)

Street 106 – On the north side of the park between Norodom and Street 93 you'll see some women standing around after dark. Some gay guys and rough looking ladyboys too. Very shady stuff. Haven't tried and probably never will. (never tried / can't score)

V. Brothels.

Located on Street 63 between streets 178 and 214 and Street 80 between Rue de France and Sisowath Quay. Around $5 – 10 for no frills short time in a shanty. Probably the worst option in Phnom Penh, though I could be wrong. I have no experience. Rip offs and robberies reported. Let me know if I'm off base. (never tried / can't score)

VI. Massage.

Paris Hotel – A hotel on Kampuchea Krom (the main street leading West from Sar Thmei/'Central Market') at the intersection of Street 171. This hotel is of interest to guys here because there is a full service massage facility on the Third Floor. Enter the building and walk up and you'll be shown a lineup of maybe 2 dozen ladies in uniform. Lots of cute girls. No real masters of the art. Not much English either. A few hustlers. Few if any older women. Standard massage is followed by extra services which you negotiate directly with the girl. Price should be $25-40 depending on your negotiating skills. I don't know when they open and close, but it's always good for a visit during the afternoon or evening. (2. 5/5)

Sakura Hotel – A hotel on Street 242 between streets 55 and 59. Has a similar set up to Paris upstairs. Rates are also similar though the girls aren't as good looking. (2/5)

Yang Mey – Not the easiest place to find. Address is 28 Street 252 (between 63 and 93 ). There are about 2 dozen girls on the second floor, divided evenly between Khmer and Vietnamese (indicated by different colored badges). Plenty of good looking women offering full service. Performance is okay. $10 to the house. Negotiate the tip directly with the girl. $20 should cover it, but they may quote as much as $50 to start. Don't get ripped off. Open around noon – midnight. (3/5)

Soul Golden City – Yet another similar place offering full service. Located on Samdach Blvd, just after the intersection with Norodom (heading East). Look for the sign and horseshoe shaped building. Big selection of Khmer and Vietnamese girls. Standard $6 to the house then whatever you negotiate with the girl. Some of the super hot girls might ask for as much as $70 if they think they can get it. Guys who know better pay 20 or 30. (4/5)

Panda Massage – A massage parlor at the corner of streets 242 and 55. Staffed by a few Khmer girls who aren't great looking but aren't terrible looking either. In short: they get the job done. Opt for the oil massage at $8. Negotiate the hand finish directly with the girl. Usual tip is $10, and should include some play time with her titties. (3/5)

Sokun's Place – A massage parlor and saloon near Street 108 (just before the Night Market) on riverside. Staffed by a dozen Khmer girls, most of whom are around 20 years old, pretty, petite and light skinned. Get the oil massage for $7 (I think). Head upstairs. Negotiate directly with the girl for a hand finish. You have to be quiet and they will sometimes look around like they're afraid to do it, but it's a standard option. Most report giving a $10 tip, and that works, but you may have to negotiate. Some will try to start out as high as $30! Their tops don't come off. Open 11 am – 11 pm. Higher score just because most of the staff is attractive. (3. 5/5)

Paradise Massage – At least I think that's the name. It's a barber shop right across the street from Cyrcee, open during the day. Walk in and ask for a massage. An average Khmer girl will give you a rub down. Hand finish is available for a $10 tip. Closes early. (2/5)

Massage parlors around Street 80 & 84 – Several massage parlors on the riverside between streets 80 and 84 (after you pass what Phnom, but before the Japanese Friendship Bridge). $2. 50 for the oil massage, $5 tip for hand relief. Ladies shirts may come off if you ask and tip enough. Tip $3-$7. Haven't been, but have been told from a few sources. (haven't visited / no score)

Other massage parlors – They're are plenty of massage venues around town. You'll undoubtedly see them. Notable areas are Street 172, Street 110, Street 118, Street 49, riverside and Mao Tse Tung. If you opt for the oil massage and get fully nude, hand finish is usually on the menu. You may have to politely ask if it is. Negotiate directly with the girl. The ones directly on the river side will be more likely to ask for higher tips. Locations further away from river side will have lower prices. Oil massage should range from $2. $8. Tips should range from $5-$10. I've seen reports online that some places have girls too young to turn tricks working, so beware. I've personally never gotten a massage from anyone younger than 20. The parlors don't want to be known as rub and tugs so make sure you keep what happens between you and the lady who gives you the rub down. (scores vary)

Appendix I: Closed shops.

Sophie's – A grimy location known most for the sample blowjobs given to customers as they entered. Full service was available on premises for $10. Long gone.

Mikado – A few doors down and across the street from Cyrcee. Offered on premise full service. No longer around.

The Drunken Sponge – A hostess bar on 51 up from Pit Stop. Used to be open and closed sporadically, now appears to be closed for good.

Appendix II: More info needed.

Passions – A hostess bar somewhere on Street 63. Supposed to have lots of hot girls who wear pantyhose. Haven't found it. Where is it?

Nightlife Bar – Another hostess bar. Address is 9 Sothearos Boulevard, which I think puts it right around the intersection with Street 178. Saw an ad and the girls looked great, though those are often misleading. Any info?

DV8 – I don't know what this place is, but the ads I've seen lead me to believe it's another hostess bar. They mention 'new girls'. Located somewhere on Street 148. I think near Sar Kandal. Anyone know anything?

Secret's Cafe – Have seen this place referenced as being on Street 108 but have never found it. Any tips?

Voodoo Lounge – Another bar with ladies supposedly on 108 that I haven't found. What am I missing?

Red Bar – Another place I've heard about (supposedly around Street 110) but somehow never found. What's up? Is this the old name for what is now Domino Bar?

Italian Bar – I forget the name of the place, but it's something Italian-sounding like 'Ranzini'. It's a bar right around the corner from Cyrcee on Street 136 (next to the frozen yogurt shop). Always see it open and empty, with plenty of girls standing around outside. Never able to stop. Did this used to be 'Big Banana'? Any info?

Night Flight Bar – On the west side of Street 5 between streets 136 and 144. Never been inside. Anyone else?

Booties – Supposedly a hostess bar with VIP and karaoke rooms somewhere on 118. Anyone know anything about this?

White Bar – Forget the name, but there is a large, new bar between City Bar and Happy Man on Street 110 with a white face. Have seen attractive girls sitting outside plenty of times but have never been welcomed inside. Is this place aimed at the Japanese or what?

Vy Vy and White Moon – Two bars supposedly on 172. Haven't seen them, though to be honest I never really looked hard either. Any info?

White Lotus – A nice Japanese themed bar on the river side between streets 104 and 102. Big white sign, two door men, and tinted windows. Maybe 2 dozen really good looking girls sitting inside. Never see any customers. Any info on this place?

Japanese Style Club – That's actually the name. It's on the north side of Street 144, just east of Norodom. Some good looking women here. Any info?

Bars on streets 172 and 178 – There are some bars on these streets east of Street 51. They have tinted windows. Are these hostess bars or something aimed at Khmer guys?

Skirts Bar and The Sportsmans Bar – On 174 just east of 51. I know nothing about these places other than that they exist. Any info?

Howie Bar – A popular place on 51 near Sorya Mall. Supposedly lots of girls here. Maybe freelancers? Somehow I've never found this place, though to be honest I haven't looked very hard. Any info?

Big Cafe – There is a huge 'cafe' on the west side of Street 51 if you're traveling south from Sorya Mall toward BKK. There are tons of well dressed girls outside, apparently waiting for customers. I know that 'cafes' in Vietnam with pretty girls on staff often offer a lot more than coffee. Any details on this place?

Hot Toc / Barber shops – The south side of Kampuchea Krom near Sar Thmei is lined with a string of Vietnamese barber shops. I know you can get a cheap cut, shave, shampoo and ear cleaning at these places. But is there anything else? They all have a bunch of pretty Vietnamese women working in them. In Vietnam, barbershops with large female staffs are often places to get a blowjob, happy ending massage or even more. What about Cambodia?

More on site hotels and massage – I've seen lots of hotels and big flashy massage places that look promising, some over around Martini. Anyone know anything? How about all the massage parlors in the north end of the circle around what Phnom that say 'Open 24 Hours'? Who needs a massage at 4:31 am? I think there's something up. Am I right?

Lone Brothers – Across from Walkabout, said to be some ladies here. Owned by a motorcycle club but must want other customers since they advertise the place. Any info?

KTV's – Plenty of big gaudy ones around that are more for big rollers, but also lots of small ones with Vietnamese girls sitting outside (like on Street 118, Street 136, and some side streets). I've been told they'll come in and sing with you, maybe more, but I've never entered. Details welcomed!

Beer Gardens – Outdoor drinking areas are all over the city. But apparently at some the wait staff will sit with you, and maybe go out with you if you strike a deal. Locations are over the Japanese Friendship Bridge and around Koh Pich. Any more info?

I've followed each description with a rough score on a five point scale. 5/5 is the highest possible rating.

If you're interested in the scene, I recommend checking out places and doing your own assessment. Your opinions may (and probably will) differ from mine.

I'm also interested in any corrections or updates.

This is several thousand words long, so I imagine I'll have to break it up into separate posts.

I. Bars.

Hostess style bars similar to what you'd find around Hai Ba Trung street in Ho Chi Minh City, though a little less professional and sex oriented. You can spend time with the girls, play games, get a shoulder massage, and if things work out, take the lady you like out. Standard rates are $20–30 short time or no more than $50 long time. Some girls who think they are super stars or that their bar is better than others may quote numbers way higher than this, but that usually reflects a poor attitude and so it simply isn't worth it. Keep in mind that bars and their staff change all the time.

Street 104

(This is the busiest bar street in the city. The big concentration of bars and girls is degraded in my eyes by incessant tuk tuk and moto drivers who are worse here than anywhere I've seen, and 'party animal' Westerners who come here to spends lots of money on lady drinks just to go home alone. Bars start opening around 3 pm and close around 3 am.)

Colonial Bar – The first bar on the northwest end of the street. Entrance is downstairs with some girls usually sitting outside. Actual bar is upstairs, in a converted luxury apartment. Old beat up pool table and sticks. Number of girls varies from 6 to maybe 12. All Khmer. No real stunners, but plenty look good and usually know their way around a man's equipment. As far as I know, all of the girls who work here will barfine, though they may say they don't if they don't like the customer. Barfine is $10. (2. 5/5)

Oscar – The next bar is home to surprisingly decent live music by the bar's owner and his band most days of the week. The layout is open for dancing, which sometimes draws backpackers (male and female) to dance around. That and the occasional shitty bathroom smell take away from the place. A huge number of Khmer girls work here, though many of them are at the lower end of the looks department by Phnom Penh standards. Most will go with customers but there are a few who will not. I don't know what the barfine is here, but it can't be too high. (2/5)

Airforce Bar – One of the most popular bars though I've never really been able to figure out why. The dozen or so Khmer girls who work here look okay enough, but almost anytime you enter they're all occupied with customers. It gets crowded and noisy a lot of nights and this sometimes leads to fights. Some girls will go out with customers, some will not. Barfine is $10. (2/5)

Milky Way – Next to the Airforce Bar and sharing the same owner, this place is a lot more spartan and supposed to be quiter / more laid back. You'll see some of the girls from Airforce here, but usually no real stars. There is one girl with a pretty slim body and gigantic tits. Nigerian guys like to hang out here, often out of view in the back. Most girls will go out if they feel okay about you. Barfine is $10. (1/5)

104 Bar – Maybe a dozen Khmer girls work here. They tend toward the older and less attractive side. Never saw I would want to do. At least one ladyboy works here. The place is kind of dingy. Seems to attract customers, but I've pretty much given up on the place. (1/5)

Vixens – Standard bar. Nothing memorable about my few visits here, though it's nice enough inside. Barfine is $10. (2/5)

Top Ten – Not many girls here, but a few who are really good looking. Some Vietnamese and Vietnamese / Khmer mixed along with five or six Khmer women. There is also occasionally a very tall ladyboy here with implants (sort of a rarity in Cambodia) who looks like she could kick my ass. A few older girls but they actually look decent. The place is pretty laid back. All girls here barfine, but not with every guy. I've seen girls tell guys they only work for lady drinks only to see them go out with a different customer later. Barfine is $10. (3/5)

Zanzi Bar – One of the original bars on the street. Pretty standard inside, but clean and with a large wooden bar where girls sometimes dance. Maybe two dozen girls, all Khmer, work here, but only rarely not at the same time. Some are decent looking, some aren't so hot. No real stunners. Some roaming and kissing possible in the bar at times. Almost every girl here will do short time. Some will do long time. Gets crowded. Drinks are standard price and barfine is $10. (3/5)

Matilda Bar – Pretty big bar that gets busy. A good number of girls, mostly of average looks. Drinks are standard price and girls aren't pushy for you to buy them. Some roaming and kissing possible in the bar at times here too. I think it's run by two Western guys. Most girls will barfine. Rate is $10. (3/5)

Big Mama's – Used to be T-Pub 2. Refurbished after a fire and change in owner. Nice enough inside. Maybe a dozen Khmer girls, mostly average. One or two who probably should have been out of the game years ago. Most girls will barfine, but the bartenders will not. (2. 5/5)

Bunny Bar – The last bar in the row and the last bar in quality. A really shitty bar that looks almost as bad as it smells inside. That said the mamasan is nice and the handful of Khmer girls who work here are too, but they aren't lookers. (1/5)

On the other side of the road:

Rose Bar – Maybe the most popular bar, though this is another one I haven't really figured out. Almost always crowded with lots of male customers, which means most ladies are already busy when you arrive. Maybe 2 dozen Khmer girls. People say it's a place for busty girls though I think that's exaggerated. A lot of thick girls. Most girls will go out short time. $10 barfine before midnight, $5 after. (2. 5/5)

Smile Girl Bar – A decent bar with a good number of attractive Khmer ladies. They always dress nice and look sexy. Some roaming and kissing is possible at times. But this is another place that gets really crowded. And girls tend to put on the pressure for drinks if they're not already busy with other customers. A few girls here don't go out with customers. A few do. They tend to ask premium prices. (2. 5/5)

Street 108.

There are two bars here, a little out of the way for me. They are decent, but with so much available I rarely make my way over here anymore.

Golden Vine – On the corner of 108 and 51 next to the French restaurant. A bar that's been around for a while. Has a pool table, long bar and some tables. Maybe 2 dozen girls work here maximum. A few Vietnamese girls. Most are average in looks. No real stunners that I've seen. Good attitudes and friendly. Most will go out for short time. Some will go long time. I think the barfine is $7. (2. 5/5)

Zapata (or is the name Enigma?) – Right next to Golden Vine. Almost as many girls, mostly Khmer. Average looks. Some a little worse. Friendly but the better looking girls sometime timid. Some girls will barfine. (2/5).

Street 110

A small cluster of bars worth checking out, especially if you're interested in a barfine.

City Bar – One of the original bars on this street I think. Has a pool table that leans like the Tower of Pisa. Mostly Vietnamese girls. Sometimes they go back for weeks at a time or to never reappear. Some have been working for years. Three Khmer girls. One has huge tits and is sweet. All on staff but one or two are doable. Zanzi Pub – Across the street from the others, this is a new bar that is very nice inside. A pool table and plenty of games. A good sized staff of Khmer girls ranges from average to above average in looks. There is no barfine here. You simply can't take girls out, which is the major downfall of this place. If you want to arrange something with the girls you can either swap numbers or agree to meet them after work somewhere. They'll have to like you a bit or be really intrigued by your monetary offer. A small group of bars. Only Island Bar is really worth visiting in my opinion.

Dream Bar – A big bar on the corner of Street 118 and Street 5. Not many girls and not an especially great place. Many girls won't barfine. (1/5)

Island Bar – A fun place that often has girls dancing inside. Probably 2 dozen girls, mostly Khmer but a few Viet mix. Looks range from just below average to just above it. As far as I know, every girl will go out with you, though many are starfish in the sack. Many speak no English at all. Just ask someone at the bar to translate and they will. Short time $20-30, agree on it in advance to avoid issues. Many here don't like to go long time, but will make an exception if they like you. (3/5)

The Fire Bar – A run of the mill Phnom Penh bar. Okay staff. I'm not sure what percentage of girls here will barfine as I've never asked for it or witnessed it. Any info appreciated. (can't rate)

Golden Bear – A very small bar across next to The Fire Bar. They play the music a little loud for my tastes. A half dozen Khmer girls. Looks range from poor to good. Most will go out with customers but may take some warming up. At least one girl here is a virgin who works only for lady drinks. (2/5)

Ponleu Lin – A newer bar across the street from the others. Pool table in the back. Maybe a half dozen women work here, most of whom will go out with you, though it may take some time to warm them up. $10 barfine. Drinks are a little higher priced here than most other bars. 136 Bar – On the corner of streets 130 and 5. A big bar with a huge staff. Probably 30 Khmer girls work here. Unfortunately, the 3 or 4 extremely pretty ones are virgins who only work for lady drinks. Plenty of other girls though who range in looks and attitude from poor to just above average. Most are willing to go short time if you put a little effort into it. Sometimes has live music. The place can get a little too crowded and noisy for my taste. (2/5)

The second busiest street after 104. Has a big concentration of bars near the riverside and a few more further to the West.

First Bar – Three blocks from Riverside, on the north side of the street. Has changed names many times which is why the name on the sign in the street is different than the name on the building and the name on the awning over the door. Most recent name was Catch 22. Small bar with almost a dozen girls. Most are average in looks. One Vietnamese girl and at least two virgins who work for lady drinks. The rest will go out. Beautiful bartender is married. Barfine is $10. Has a pool table but the walls are too close to play it. (2/5)

Sexy Girl – Average bar across the street from First Bar. I think it used to be called Gold Star. The last time I went in it had four older women. Candy Bar – A big bar on the corner of 136 and 5. Big but a bit dirty. A large bar with decent looking bartenders who don't usually go out. Open 24 hours but girls mainly there in the evenings. At peak times there may be over 2 dozen girls. Most are average looking at best. They tend to quote high prices for short time. If you don't see many girls outside or on the main floor, they're probably upstairs. Way too many ladyboys here. I think they have a ladyboy show one day a week, but they hang around every day. Some freelancers too. Not a big fan of this place. Part of the 'Happy Bar' group. (1/5).

Mr. Butterfly – Another in the 'Happy Bar' group. Also on the corner, it has a similar layout to Candy, but I think the staff is a little better looking here. Who knows though, since many of the girls go back and forth. Not all girls will barfine, but most will. (2/5)

Singer – Very similar to Candy Bar. Similarly dirty too. A pretty big staff that ranges from unattractive to pretty good. A dance floor inside that gets a lot of use from the ladies. Mainly a backpacker area. There are some bars here but they don't get much traffic.

Gladiator – The main bar on the street. Pretty nice inside. Has a staff of about a half dozen Khmer women. One above average girl. Two rail thin girls. The rest are average at best. Everyone is pretty nice and no pressure to buy drinks. I think everyone here will barfine. (2. 5/5)

Costa Bar – At the end of the street. Looks nice inside and has a good pool table with a blacklight. The problem is every time I visit there are only 2 or 3 girls, including one who is a deaf mute (though very sweet). The owner says every time she gets a good looking girl, they find a boyfriend within a week and quit working. One girl here has an outrageous ass if you're into that. There are a few bars here across the street from Sorya Mall. Some are pretty good, some are far from it.

Pit Stop – Owned by an American. Small staff that has never had anyone who could keep my attention. Not great. (1/5)

Plan B – Right across from the center of Sorya Mall. Recently remodeled under new ownership. Small staff of Khmer women that is pretty average in looks. This bar with black glass front offers one your best bets for rubbing and touching in the actual bar, though not all girls are up for it. Has a pool table and a dart board. All girls will barfine, though not with every guy. (2. 5/5)

T Pub – A multi-level bar with probably a dozen Khmer girls on staff. One or two are below average, the rest are average or better. Fun girls, though they tend to pressure you a bit on drinks. Seating area inside is small. A pool table and balcony upstairs. I'm pretty sure they all barfine. (3/5)

My Lien – A small staff of only a few, usually very bored girls with maybe one exception. Nothing special inside, and at times they won't even turn on the air conditioning. Last visit there were three women sleeping in the booths inside. Used to be a lot better. I think it's under new management. (1/5)

Shanghai – A large bar on the corner with probably 24 girls on staff. Girls range from average to very attractive. Not the same as it used to be. They seem to be trying to make it more respectable, whatever that means. Girls don't barfine here. You'll have to negotiate to meet them outside of work. Some will and some won't. More than a few virgins and girls who never see customers outside of work. Closes earlier than most other bars. Has a pool table and food is pretty good. (2/5)

Black Cat – An open air bar on the corner across from Shanghai. Lots of seating. Maybe a dozen Khmer girls at any given time. Mostly freelancers but I think a few girls who work here are on staff. Some are well below average. Some are quite alright. All should go out if they're into the guy at least a little, or are encouraged enough by the offer. Live music from a Filipino band here some nights. Also attracts some Barang couples and tourists. Open 24 hours, but if you're looking for girls come in the afternoon, evening or night. (2/5)

Domino Bar – Located on Street 5 between streets 110 and 118 around some European bars and restaurants. A little dingy inside. Maybe 10 Khmer girls on staff. Nothing spectacular. Used to have a few good girls working but the last time I went there were at least 2 aggressive ladyboys working which turned me off to the place. (1/5)

Cyrcee (also known as LCC) – The best short time bar in Phnom Penh, located on Street 49 between streets 130 and 136. Opens at 6 pm. No huge sign, but you can find it as the red exterior is lit up outside and there is at least one guard standing in front of the shaded glass entrance. Some motos and tuk tuks know the place. Others don't. If they know it, they'll call it 'See Say. ' Close to 30 Khmer girls work here. Looks range from below average to damn good. They don't draw a monthly salary, so they're keen to go across the street with you. Girls are pretty aggressive (but not in a bad way, they'll go away once you choose who you like) and don't mind dirty talk or questions about their services in the bar. It's best to take 2 girls at once, though you can take as many as you want. No problems whatsoever. Buy a drink for yourself and required lady drink for each girl you want to take out, then pay the bar fine and go. Ask for two pops before you agree to go out and you'll get it. When you bar fine your girl / s, you'll walk to a guest house right across the street and pay $5 for the room. If you don't have condoms they'll charge you $2 for a box of some terrible brand. All the girls here will do BBBJ with gusto. They will also interact with each other if that's what you want, though with some their hearts clearly won't be into it. At least one girl does anal (ask which girl does 'roon coot'). Standard for short time is $20-25. If you want long time, the best bet is to try them out short time first then after the session ask if they'd like to go back with you. Cathouse – An older place that many motos and tuk tuks don't know by name. Located all on its own on the corner of streets 118 and 51. Either give the streets or tell them it's around the Tin Tin hotel, which they should know. Looks very unassuming from the outside. Opens at 3 pm. Maybe the best looking staff in Phnom Penh as far as bars go. Around 2 dozen girls who are a nice mix of Khmer, Chinese Khmer and Vietnamese. They sit inside of a circular bar and wear uniforms which change with the day of the week. There are a few problems with this place. The first is that the girls can't be barfined and it's not that easy to arrange after work activities with them either. You definitely have to put in some time with most of the girls here if you want any action. The second problem is that it's frequented by some guys with nice cars, good jobs and lots of money. This mix of Barang / Khmer and Japanese guys are happy to buy drink after drink, all night long, for groups of girls. So the girls aren't motivated to go out with customers unless they especially like time. The third problem is that it closes by midnight, sometimes earlier if things are quite. Pool tables (but you have to pay to play if you lose) and games available. Food is inexpensive and actually pretty good. (2. 5/5)

Regarding the tablets, I find that no matter how careful I am with what I eat or drink in Asia, or how much I avoid ice cubes and clean my teeth with bottled water, I will have an upset stomach at least once. As a result I carry Imodium Instants around with me at all times.

I also carry Imodium tablets with me on all my travels. On my last trip to Philippines, I had stomach sickness and Imodium just did not work. I tried other stuff from Pharmacy and nothing worked. I was eating the very basic food and praying on the flight back to USA that my stomach will hold. I piled on antacid and Imodium. I saw my doctor on returning and he gave a couple of shots of Cipro (total about 1000 mg) and that killed all the bugs and bacteria. I am going to start carrying Cipro too in my future trips. I saw the kitchen in one of the restaurants that I ate and it was not clean. It takes just one person with dirty hands to spoil your vacation.
