I've been Mexico city during last spring break.

In Mexico, it's really a problem if you don't speak Spanish. If you have a deep pocket, I recommend you escort and night club. Never, ever go to La Merced at night. Even daytimes there is a risk of chinero robberies, so stick to well populated streets. No bars, or strip clubs in La Merced.
