Posts: 120As they say, YMMV. Think there are better hotels than the Hyatt for those on business. I am surprised she did not call to make sure you are a guest. Know some Eurasian Indians who pass themselves off as Europeans. Always wonder what the girls think once they find out. Kind of like Kirk Douglas' famous line after banging a woman.

Posts: 136Who wants to meet up in town?
Guys,
I will be in town at the end of Jan to early Feb for my first visit to Singapore in a long time. Is there anyone that want to meet up for a few beers, go to a KTV, hang out or visit some of the sites (OT, Geylang, Brix, etc)? Just PM me and we can talk further.
I really look forward to meeting some of you guys in town.

Some from the subcontinent feel they have certain entitlements when outside their country. It was amazing that some / one of the participants of the unrest several years ago had just arrived on a compassionate visa. If they are / were so unhappy, please go back to their home country where they will most likely be treated worse and also have less opportunities.
You should see the workers from the subcontinent in other work sites around the world. For that matter, also the Chinese workers on some of those sites. Exploitation of workers is not racially unique.
Also, because of economics, many from the subcontinent, even if they are on student visas, resort to scams to stay or support themselves. I have know several Indo girls that fell for them and ended up being scammed. I sometimes make a bad joke and say that at least they were not gang raped. Or maybe losing several months salary is worse.
As for members of the subcontinent, the problem is especially prevalent with the older generation, even after achieving financial success overseas. They often hire their own country men to do the household labor and treat them and others like sub human. Had a friend who is a real cheap charlie though he drives a fancy sports car, owns buildings, is several magnitudes wealthier than even bankers, but is shocked and offended when some bars refuse him entry. I point out that he does not buy drinks while the ang mo will get at least one for himself and probably more. It is not racial, it is economics. Bars need punters to buy drinks. As do many WGs.
As for picking up freebies, SG girls are great and open to a good time. With a little investment in time, you can get freebies. But they are also smart and resourceful so you have to be careful to cover your tracks if they really fall for you. I always make sure that the gals know that I am just looking for a good time. It scares many away but it is better than having one knock on your door. Has happened to friends.

Hi everybody,
Spend a week or so in Singapore recently with another list member on here, just a observations and points.
We visited all of the usual places of fun, orchard towers, Brix, club famous (which has been mentioned quite a bit of late). Ohh and also spent a night in Batam.
Pretty much all of what has been said of these places is spot on prices, nationality and the like.
Seemed to me mostly young Viet girls at orchard towers, all seemed pretty quiet actually majority of the bars there, still a fun place to visit.
Personally I think don't waste your money and pay over 250 or 300 SGD is more than enough,.
Entry into Brix was 30 SGD from memory with a "complimentary drink" seemed a good range of nationality of ladies there, all tastes catered for, not sure about the prices scary didn't want to ask.
Clark quay is a great place to have a few drinks, bars here not cheap but has a great atmosphere, great place to sit around and watch the passing parade.
Batam was great also, it is a big change from Singapore, cheap and cold beer lots of bars in Nagoya, fantastic food at all hours of the night.
Finally it was the first time I have visited club famous, I didn't even know it existed after I read about on here.
Its a Filipino bar with 6 or 7 girls working, age from late 20,s though to 40 perhaps, the she w.
Seems its a BMD bar similar to those of orchard towers but cheaper, a previous poster mentioned the girls will go home with you after there shift is finished, I was chatting there to a girl whose names escapes me she mentioned she was happy with that arrangement.
So we exchanged mobile numbers but something told me she wouldn't be up for it. And as things would go she didn't call, oh well them the breaks, all up a great trip who's with me next time,.
Cheers lwd.

May be the Singaporeans are totally oblivious to how they treat other fellow human beings just so that they can get ahead.

The typical bule in Batam is a Western man, with propension to alcohol, who patronizes almost exclusively the pubs in Kampung Bule, and tends to overpay well-seasoned bar girls working there (the only ones who can speak English, besides high-educated ladies, who have a good job and generally do not go to bars to meet a rich tourist to make cash). I don't go to Kampung bule, I never get drunk, I tend to avoid the girls who speak English (except those high-class and highly educated rich ladies, who are rare and elusive, if I have the rare chance to meet one), but I understand that there is some reason for prejudices.
The first time I wrote something against the common forum trend (see note *) my reputation points were zapped down severely. I played smart and I started to post regularly useful information, trying to be as much accurate as possible, while also playing the game of rep point exchange. Now I have almost 3500 points, and if an idiot zaps me it's like a mosquito bite. ALmost nobody else ever zapped me in the last years, however.
* Something like I don't waste my time to bargain with taxi drivers for the fee to pay from Harbour Bay to Nagoya, as I simply give them 50 k and I do not accept complains, because 50 k is the regular fare including some tip. Hard bargainers, mostly Chinese Singaporeans, bargain hard and can achieve 40 k or even less for the same ride, while new tourists are immediately identified by taxi drivers and are requested to pay 60 k or even 70 k ("chop carrot").
Note: 10k IDR = 1 SGD.
Bargaining is a religion for someone. However, if you go to Batam, you better tell the driver before entering the car how much you are going to pay.
