Based on a trip to Cozumel this month, I can say the information reported here is generally very accurate. The Green House cigar bar is closed and the Caribbean Queen is open. A lady at Salsa told me the owner of the GH cigar bar was running for some political office and owning a brothel apparently doesn't enhance your chances of getting elected, not even in Mexico. In my experience the place was a bit over-priced but it sure was convenient. While I can confirm that the Caribbean Queen is open again, I didn't have a chance to sample it. One evening, while driving by, I did see a couple of chicas standing out in front and if they were any indication of the ladies inside, it is definitely worth checking out. When you have a SO with kids traveling with you, late night excursions are hard to explain. Maybe I need to start diving at night to generate an excuse?

I did stop by both Club Salsa and La Pacha, twice each. I'm not sure what time Salsa closes but it must be before 4 pm. Which was my prime time (damn it). Twice when I went there it was closed. Hey all! I'll be headed down to Cozumel next week and will have some time to scout around Wednesday through Friday. I've been before. Once long ago when the Caribbean Queen was still up and running. Have scouted Barco and had a good time at California a few times. Definitely looking forward to checking out the new place over by Barco. I had a couple of questions was hoping someone could help out with. First, has anyone with virtually no spanish ability had any luck at La Pacha? And second, is it worth it to take a trip over to Playa one night, knowing I'll need to get back to Cozumel that same evening (have to be on the dive boat in the morning). Not even sure if its feasible to get back to Cozumel late at night, but thought it might be worth a shot. In my experience, the girls at Club California were always the best, but the prices not so much (I know, you get what you pay for sometime). Any luck in off the beaten path places? Will definitely share my findings once I get down there, but hoping someone could offer some suggestions beyond the usual places talked about on here.

OK, here is the rest of the trip report. Over-all, I was disappointed in the quality of what was available as compared to other parts of Mexico. I was hoping that it would be much easier to find young, thin. 8's or 9's, but they just weren't there. Also, I'm sure that many of you will be able to negotiate lower rates than I paid. The rates that they were offering were in a range that I was comfortable paying, so I didn't negotiate hard at all.

I had some free time one afternoon so got the chance to check out Salsa. No cover, beer for me $3, beer for the girls $3. First visit, there were 6 or 7 girls and 2 or 3 other guys. Most of the girls were 4's. 6's. Unfortunately, the one that caught my eye (maybe a 7. 5) was on her way to a room with someone else. Avoiding eye contact with the others didn't work, and one came over despite many "Gracias, No"'s. We talked for awhile, I bought her a beer, and repeatedly told her that I didn't want her to waste her time with me because I was looking for someone else. She asked for a tip and got very pissed off when I declined. She stormed back to her group, they all gave me the evil eye, and then they all got up and left the patio area. I decided that it was time to leave.

I tried Barco again that afternoon. There were maybe 8-10 girls, mostly 4's-6's but 2 or 3 that would rate in the 7-7. 5 range. There were 4 other guys there negotiating take-out with the owner. I bought a beer and paid with a 50 peso bill. Benito returned shortly to point out that I had given him two 50's that were stuck together. I thanked him and gave him the extra 50 as a tip before heading out. I took a quick look inside Bicho's (no cover) , but it was deserted, so I just peaked inside and left. Next stop, Embassy Club, a few doors up from Barco. Cover was 50 pesos, beers for me were 40 or 50 pesos, drinks for the girls were 200 pesos. There were probably 6 or 7 girls, mostly 6's, and a decent crowd. The most attractive girl that I saw in any of the clubs was there, an 8-8. 5. She was 22, had a nice, athletic body, and spoke absolutely no English. She asked for 2, 500 pesos and agreed to 2, 000 pesos, all included, but it didn't work out. She asked to be paid in advance, and I wanted to pay for the room in advance and the rest after we finished. Neither one of us would budge on that, so she moved on to another table. The waiter saw it and brought over another girl whom he said would agree to 1, 500 paid after we finished, but she wasn't what I was looking for, so I left and headed down the street to Barco to see if my earlier preferences had returned. There were probably 7 or 8 girls there (2 or 3 in the doable range) and 3 or 4 other guys. I didn't even make it to the bar for a beer before a girl wrapped herself around me. Last day of play, I returned to Salsa during the afternoon. Again, no cover & a $3 beer for me. The girl I wanted from my first trip was there and available, so I headed straight to her. She was 25, from DF, and was probably a 7. 5. As many have reported, she asked if I worked on a cruise or if I was there on vacation. I considered claiming to work on a cruise ship to get the cruise worker rate but decided against it. She asked for 1, 500 pesos. 400 or 500 for the room, and the rest for her. I was fine with the fairly common 1, 500 peso rate by now, so off we went. There was no condom lady at the time, so no $5 add-on. The rooms were much nicer than at Barco and fairly comparable to the 400 peso room at La Pacha. Granted, none of the rooms were nice as compared to a normal hotel room, but the ones at La Pacha and Salsa at least weren't gross. She seemed a bit shy, and everything was covered, but she was good, and it was definitely fun. She was in no hurry to leave, but I had other errands to run so didn't hang out for long afterward.

I didn't make it there, but from talking to Grey, it sounds like there are also dancers at El Camarote (on 65th between 3 Sur & Salas, on the West side of the street, set back a bit from the road).

It's hard to pick a favorite place. The girls are probably younger and better looking at Embassy or Barco, the prices are probably better at Salsa, and the atmosphere and enthusiastic service are probably better at La Pacha. It definitely helps to speak some Spanish, the more the better, because many of the girls speak little or no English.

The reports here were very helpful on my first night out. Platino's & Green House have apparently closed. I made a couple of quick recon stops at about 9:30 at Barco & the new place near there that Grey mentioned. Barco had probably 8 or 9 girls, and I was the only customer. No cover, but they charged 100 pesos for a beer, the girls were too aggressive for my taste, and I didn't see any that caught my interest. All of the Bar Girls are required to have "Health Cards" because many of them are available after work if they like you and your wallet enough. Not speaking Spanish is often a much greater obstacle in these bars than in the regular brothels.

The best place by far is Pacha. It opens between 8 and 9 at night. Ask for Benito (a waiter) or Fransisco (the manager). Tell them Tomas sent you. You will not get any special deals but the will look out for you, give you good service and remember you.

There is a New Club (Embassy Club) a little before Barco (from the cruse ship pier) on the same side of the street. $6. 00 US beers. 2 chicas when I was there (Early, possibly the first day of operation). One of them (real name Jessica) I have known for some years. She is tough and masculine (possibly a transvestite). Look for a missing tooth, (she says her boyfriend knocked it out in a fist fight).

I will be in Cozumel for a week in March. What are your dates? Maybe we could do a little touring together. I am familiar with most (maybe all) of the brothels on Cozumel.

In doing some research on possible places to play, I ran across a few past reports of local authorities making sweeps to check health cards. The sweeps included the usual suspects that have been much-discussed in this thread like Salsa, Platinos, California, and BarCo. The sweeps also included some other places that I had not heard of before, like:

Bicho's Karaoke Bar (corner of 5 Sur & 60 Av Sur) the entrance mentions "Bellas Chicas", which I'm taking as a good sign) ;

Copa Cabana (65th between 5 Sur & Morelos) ;

El Camarote (65th between 3 Sur & Salas) ;

Gusano Rojo (corner of Juarez & 75 Av Sur) ;

La Jungla (corner of 8 Nte & 50 Av Nte) ; and.

La Caverna de Rex (30 Av Sur between Morelos & 3 Sur).

Does anyone have any experience or info on any of these locations? Thanks!
