I will try it out. The comparison to Pattaya puts it in perspective. I was thinking of making a trip to Pattaya for the weekend. But it will be a hectic one, considering that I fly out of Singapore on Sunday. I have been to Pattaya many times but never to Batam.

My two cents.

Ramadan starts on 15 May, which makes the 01 June weekend the midpoint of the holy month of fasting. And it ends on 15 June. Usually, everything (absolutely everything) that is considered entertainment is shut in the first 2-3 days, middle 2-3 days and last 2-3 days of this Ramadan month. So that weekend of 01 June that you are planning might turn out to be a complete non-starter.

You are in luck today as I just got back to Singapore from Batam last weekend. All the reviews online are outdated hence a new review would help you out. If you are in SG I'll be heading back this weekend to spend some more time there.

I hopped a ferry last Friday with an upgrade to business class using Horizon fast ferry. 48 return plus an extra 10 each way for business. This is defensively recommended. The whole immigration and boarding is so simple and easy so I arrived in Batam fresh and ready to go. I hopped a cab and paid 50 k for my 2 kilometre trip to Harmoni hotel. Some people say that you should only pay 20 k for the taxi but for 5 dollars all up who really cares.

After I checked in I walked straight out into chilli bar and had myself a few beers. SAN mig light goes for 3. 50 each and if you buy 4 you get the 5th free. The bar was full of girls and a lady drink will cost around 5-7 dollars depending on the bar. The girls aren't amazing like LOS or PI but it was fun regardless. Unfortunately there is no more gogo there so it's only regular bars however still great fun. A few out of the way bars had some really cute girls who will cost around 40 for barfine and 100ST Negotiated.

I spent a lot of time at cock and bull and a must try is their meat pie which is the best pie I've ever had. Again cheap beers, friendly waitresses and a good vibe. I never checked out no namedisco because I was too drunk or asleep but I can tell you even on weekends the place is dead, so quiet which means it's a fun Wild West town of your own to explore.

Don't compare Orchard towers to Batam. 60 dollar ladies drinks to 7 dollars it's an easy choice. The vibe is also excellent in Batam just the same feeling I get every time in Pattaya or Angeles.

This is a must do so don't think about it just book it in. PM me if you need a wingman.

Whats your opinion of Harmoni. Yeah I know its got a good location but esp bfast & noise at night.

Also 40/100 are we talking US dollars or Sing dollars? My research says 500 IR ST and around 1 mill LT?

Harmoni has two properties. The one where NoName is located is called Harmoni Hotel and thsi is one of the best places to stay IMHO. Rooms are clean and spacious and it is close to everything of relevance. You really need not worry about the noise. There is practically none.

The bars AC has mentioned are all in NED, but IMHO the women there are well past their shelf life. Perhaps OK to have a couple of drinks with and fool around in the bar, but I would never bring one back unless I am [CodeWord140] drunk. I am not putting AC down, just sharing my perspective on the women in these bars. A few bars have gone the Chinese way where women sing on stage and bar patrons dole out money to waiters for paper garlands for these girls. What a sham.

Its all in a grid of 2 x 2 streets. So you will be able to take a quick walk around and survey all the bars within an hour before you decide to settle into one for a drink. Feel free to enter, look around and walk out right back in case do do not see anything you fancy. See the pic. It is an old map of NED but it helps you get the drift

There is another property by the name Harmoni Suites which is further South on the same road, and this is pretty decent too, but not close to NED. The other hotel (my favorite) that is strategically located like Harmoni is Goodway. But it is a much older property in comparison. Still some upper category rooms are quite nice.

I have an upcoming trip towards this month end - 26 to 28 May, just before Hari Raya.

A quick check with Batam veterans about the status of massage shops on these dates. I am told that until Lebaran everything stays open.

Can someone confirm? I also read a report (a few posts ago) about Permata Indah being shut. Really? So which are the best ones to go to now?

Finally back home from my first trip to Batam. Due to limited options for hotels going on a long weekend impulsively I booked a stay at Batam Star hotel. The star should be removed from that name! The room was OK-ish but had the pleasure of killing three cockroaches and had a techno (suspect I could add fuck / drug to that sentence) party few doors away. Location wise it was good do LOL.

Follow my advice and stay at Formosa or Da Vienna, if you don't want to spend more and opt for upper category.

I checked out Gold Bird KTV and there is some Chinese writing outside but while visiting I understood the name is "Sedona". First time I checked it out no girls was still working around midnight so I returned earlier next day and didn't get any vibe but spotted 1-2 lookers.

Sedona is the old name (more than 6 years ago), but everyone still knows it as "Sedona". One of the most reliable places for booking girls. Don't expect photomodels, but among 20 there is always at least one we'd like to enjoy. Best time to go is 1 pm-2 pm, and never in weekends (regulars prebook those girls they like).

I checked out Noname but Friday was really bad day and Saturday despite a good live band on stage did not really have a good atmosphere.

So sad that NoName lost the magic and the Crown of best pub in Batam. Friday was my dream day. I was counting the days before any trip, looking forward to enter the room on a Friday night a bit after midnight, when I knew the probability to meet office girls eager to be with a bule was maximum.

I did also go to Square Club and mingled with some local girls but yeah unless one in the crowd speaks English it gets tricky but was nice and I think I might hit it up again and try my luck without p2 p. I escaped and I run to Newton, where I met the owner of the wonderful pair of tits that I posted here (scroll back, and you'll find it. Impossible to miss that masterpiece).

Some of the bad is that ojeks would hassle me for 3-12 blocks and one persistent guy was screaming "WE GO TOGETHER. I WORK HERE" and is the first time in Asia for a very long time I almost lost it.
