Exactly. What a lot of people simply don't appreciate is that Sosua is a very cosmopolitan place compared to most towns in the DR and that it is seen by many people as a desirable retirement location. For, example in the supermarkets in Sosua, you can buy all kinds of quality products and produce that you can't find in supermarkets in Florida. You can live in a beautiful home in the area and afford domestic help such as cook, housekeeper, gardener for a fraction of the price in the US or Europe. The gorgeous apartment I had in Sosua for $1100 per month could not be matched for double the price in Florida.

That is not what I intended to say. I meant that the principal large and popular bars on Pedro Clissante such as Rumba, Latinos, Classico disco, and so on are bars whole entire business depends on prostitution, and that several of the hotels likewise depend on the same market. Of course there are other places around Sosua where you can get a drink or a hotel room where this does not apply, or not to anything like the same extent.

I lived in Sosua for a couple of years and is is a gross exaggeration to say that the whole town is a brothel. After all it has several schools, several churches, hospitals, restaurants, vetinarians, dentists, supermarkets, car repair stores, hardware stores, pharmacies that don't depend on Viagra sales, and so on. It can also be described as a retirement community.

"I have a very bad distaste in my mouth about this country and the city of Sosua. I was involved in a car accident one month ago I did everything I could to help the family and my car insurance was supposed to take care of the injured victims.

Even though it was not my fault I paid for the ambulance to take the victim to Santiago I gave the family gas and food money to go to Santiago and I even went to visit the family in the hospital too see if they needed anything, I felt bad for the family. When the family found out I was an American citizen then came the extortion.

They refuse to use the insurance to aid their medical needs and are now in the process of trying to extort money out of me in order for me too leave the country...

Reminds me of a meme I saw floating around on the internet a while back. It had a picture of that famous gecko and the phrase said:

"I just saved a ton of money on my auto insurance by putting the car in reverse and driving away from the scene of the accident."

I am not sure on those statistics you need to post the source. I am numbers person so I always need to see the source. Post it. You cannot just quote. Also, if it was so vital why are there not huge protests and riots. I am glad you have spent times with the locals that is why i am surprised you put them down and call there town a brothel. Say what? Plenty of Dominicans in Europe, Panama, Curacao, and even my hometown Atlanta. In the past month, 2 Dominican chicks that I mess with have gone to the USA for the first time. And these chicks are nothing special. One is a preschool teacher and the other has a menial job in Salcedo. Where did you get the idea that they do not have the possibility?

It is just that the Brazilian chicks did not stay hookers, the same as the Dominicans will not. If that was the case then in the 10 years that I have been going to Sosua it would be over run by hookers by now. Yet you see the same 3 or 4 that you have seen there for years, a few that you have seen for the last 2 years, and you see some new ones. You don't see troupes of hookers going from city to city. Those chicks move on to regular jobs, the same as they could have done without ever hooking in the first place.

Of course there are Dominicans all over the western world. But you cannot compare a preschool teacher with a Sosua hooker in the visa process. When a hooker from Help goes to buy her ticker, packs her bags and flies to Europe, the Sosuan girl has to buy her ticket, make the confirmed hotel reservations, have a credit card, show a bank account statement with cash and steady income. Everything can be done but it's not like taking the Expreso Bavaro to Drink Point, where all these girls have already at least one prima walking the streets or hanging in the bars.

That, like it or not, is the image that Sosua has earned for itself, honestly, and Flash! It is the reason other citizens are upset and want to shut their main business down, and bring in "family business".

And somehow I'm thinking I have spent more time with local families of Sosua, Charamicos, Abajo, La Union, and other towns very close to the Haitian border that don't see a tourist very often, than you, these last 9 years of being "wifed up" . But that's just me!

Wrong on so many levels. Sousa is third most popular, that is a stupid thing to say and far from fact. Maybe it's the most popular for the "brothas" from NY but it's not even on the list when you consider sex tourism destinations. I suggest you educate yourself before trying to educate others.

If he hit a bike from behind at night that had no lights, there might be some dispute about culpability, even if the bike had no lights. Supposing you hit a pedestrian at night who had no lights? 4. Even if he has no liability under Dominican law, everyone who drives at night knows that you have to look out for bikes without lights. About 5 years ago a dominicana friend who is a naturalized US citizen was here on vacation. She owns a house and 4 WD, jeepeta here in the RD. It was late at night, she had left her boyfriend's bar, when she arrived at her house, her kid sitting in back of her open the door, a guy on a small motocycle collided with the door. He had no lights, no helmet. He was lying in the road and another vehicle came along, the guy manhandled him into his trunk and hauled the injured guy to the hospital. The police came for my friend, she had to come up with 200,000 to keep out of jail. The injured guy had a broken arm, and other minor injuries, concussion, and my friend wound up paying 27,000 pesos to the guy for his medical bills. She got her 200,000 back and I don't know how much she paid to the lawyer and to the police. Message is, if you are a gringo, you pay. No matter who is at fault.

Good luck suing everyone. I am not sure what you are going to sue them for since this the way it has worked there forever. There is a reason gringos shouldn't rent or drive moto's and cars in DR. Had you done your homework, you would have known that and not put yourself in this position.

I keep trying to educate you it is not a brothel. Even if you do not drive which you do not I assume. Just walk and educate yourself about sosua. That is why you keep hearing mongers say they cannot do this, but these people get off a plane and stay on the strip go to the beach and leave. They think that is sosua and it is not. So, they think their dollars run sosua and it does not. They tolerated for the good of the poor people, but now they have said no more. The head of claro has a home in sosua. A lot of rich people from santiago have vacation homes in sosua. That is again why they want to close it down they do not want that reputation no more. If you ever flew private out of puerta plata airport you will be surprised how many private planes come and go from that airport with people from sosua, but you do not know any of this.
