You get a visa for 3 months for $51 then a free extension for 2 more. I'm always ready to get out of Kenya by the end of the 5 months. The 'fixers" can cost you more unless you're a poor planner and it isn't exactly legal which carries its own set potential problems.

Get yourself a contact in Kenya so you can get your passport stamped so it looks as though you are leaving and coming back, ie doing visa runs, you never have to actually leave. A lot of Brits ex pats do this.

It seems like you and I are having similar pre-trip experiences. I've seen that most would prefer to accompany you throughout your entire stay.
