Why would I want to go on vacation and stay in an uncomfortable little cell. The price wasn't even all that different all things considered. And Doubletree had a nice pool. Where you could at least swim and pretend you weren't in a shithole town with girls that look like men..

Helpful information on the Doubletree, thanks. Yes, there are people whose objective is to go someplace and try to spend as little as money as possible. Can't understand the mentality, especially when it comes to Africa.

Well so far things have not been going as planned think this is the first time I have ever had blue balls in an african country. Firstly my flight was delayed by several hours, when I arrived at Dar airport got the visa online which really speed up customs however when I went to buy a vodafone sim I discovered the sim card tray was damaged inside my phone which prevented me from buying a local sim in order to arrange an uber. Got the airport driver from $45 down to $30 which I know was far to much had no choice but to pay, plus I had to also buy a new phone at 250 k.

Good points got a great apartment just of coco beach for $28 per night using airbnb, very secure with aircon and everything is within walking distance girl friendly only thing it didn't have was a safe so I brought a travel safe with me and fastened it around the water heater problem solved. Also uber is another great way to travel here don't think I have paid more than 2000 shillings for a journey.

Abit of advice for finding girls online I would recommend not to start looking until you arrive here I made this mistake. I had about 20 girls wanting to meet on the day I arrived. When I refused or made excuses most blocked me or started mouthing off about sleeping around plus you also get the ones asking for gifts. Just blocked these ones and moved on.

Hilton is not really high class dude. It just has air condition that works, a bed that isn't a piece of foam, real security, room service, internet that will load webpages, and furniture that isn't made of plyboard.

Qbar is like a cheap Cambodian knocking shop room, concrete block, really dire furnishings, and under-powered AC with no internet. I don't need a 6 guys to carry me around town on a silver platter while girls wave fans over me and feed me cold grapes (tho that might be fun), just a basic level of comfort while I monger.

I am the one who or one of those who always advice people to go to Q-bar, could be that Elephant Beer read my report when choosing hotel. Or at least I mention Q-bar always in my reports because I always use it myself. It is cheapest hotel in Oyster bay area, I have not find cheaper one although once I tried to look something else.

Yes, I was researching many African countries for a long trip and the name Q-Bar kept coming up on this trip as a must-stay-at destination. It seemed like a good central point with decent rooms (from the misleading pics) and there would be wild action downstairs each night. For those who used to monger in Asia. I was imagining an upscale Walkabout or upscale Grace Hotel (with the disco still downstairs). I imagined sitting in my large (but still inexpensive) king room. Looking down at the girls in the center courtyard disco and pulling them up one at a time! It would be heaven!

I've gotten older, (as we all have, except you vampires) - in my 20's I was happy with fan-room, a tiny room with a working A/C was a dream. Now I really need comforts to feel I'm having a 'vacation' - I want the place to be at least as comfortable as my own house (which is pretty damn comfortable). I need stuff like:

- Internet that works consistently and more than 3 mb.

- A/C that gets cold.

- Hot water and preferably a bath tub.

- Decent food from hotel, or nearby.

- Pool always helps.

- A room that doesn't make me feel like I'm starring in 'locked up abroad'.

And I'll gladly pay the price for those comforts.

Qbar was not (in reality) as it appeared to be. There was no (and I mean NO) internet available in my room, the room was something you would find in Koh Kong Cambodia 20 yr ago, there was nothing around, and the girls were just not my scene downstairs. I don't enjoy sitting in the heat drinking beer looking at girls that are taller and stronger and sweatier than I am.

Now that I've read your post. I see where you're coming from, if you're looking for the absolute cheapest acceptable place close to what action there is. Then I can see why you're recommending this place.

To me however. Value equates to more than inexpensive. YMMV.

In reality in Dar Oyster-bay area is not a place where there is much actions!.

In my opinion all the action is in the Oyster Bay area, there were those some bars which all the girls visited, different places were popular in different days. These are places where musungus go, so girls go after them. So most expensive girls are in this area, I guess that is correct. I don't want to go to places where common people go, I like places where slim girls are looking for musungus (me). Like for example Q-bar on Thursdays, that is second reason I favour Q-bar.

Let's say that all the action that I am interested of can be found in Oyster Bay area, so that is enough for me.

Although I have spend some long periods in Dar (not in last year), you can consider me still as a tourist, I don't have any deep knowledge of area.

Admittedly, I do have a sensitive sense-of-smell. I have, ever since I developed migraines in my 30's. It also equates to taste as well. For instance if I kiss a girls skin around her nipples I will (sometimes) almost want to gag from the sweat taste of sweat glands etc.

I will say that in Asia and South America I have (almost never?) run into BO and I've been to plenty of low end brothels where soap ruled over deodorant. At least 'upstairs' - have run into some bad odors downstairs several times from poor hygiene, one in twenty?

I can't even imagine what it would be like to unwrap one of these girls at home.

In retrospect, I had several girls in Ethiopia that had almost no smell at all. It was primarily just the Kenya and Tanzanian girls that reeked. Which is partly why I was so shocked when I arrived in these countries.

Because I enjoy brothel 'slums' does not mean I enjoy BO. Because you enjoy inexpensive hamburgers do you want them to the beef to be made of cow's assholes? I guess you're doing a passive aggressive insult, but I don't really get it. I'm just reporting on my experience.

One of the biggest memories I brought back from Africa was just the overwhelming BO. Even from well dressed people in the airport or at restaurants. Most did not have it, but the ones that did. Had it damn bad. To the point I'd just leave the area or room.

We get it dude Africans stink to you. I don't want to get into a flame war about shit that doesn't matter let's just say that everyone has a smell Asians certainly do as do Europeans and South Americas usually based on their diet.

Having spent sometime in Africa here's my take on it. Poor to working class people skimp on Deodorant mainly because if you work hard outside in Africa all day your deodorant will likely fail anyway. To someone who has knowledge of TZ or speaks Swahili, Oyster bay is way overpriced especially the MP's in the area and the bar girls in Elements but for a newbie with a Southeast Asian mentality of being needed to pointed to a brothel that's where the Q comes in, There's usually someone acceptable there day or night. But yeah I wouodn't stay in that overpriced for what you get place either.

I'm not one the TZ board much but I don't see many alternatives posted and for me getting pussy in Nai and Mombasa is easier to get than Dar for street pick ups from non pros.

Maybe it's just me.
