Yeah, I agree, and have had good experiences with AirBnB (remember it is not an agency. They simply put you in touch with the owner of whatever property you select. Then it is up to you how you get on). I've never had any problems with taking anyone back to an apartment. But there again, I'm pretty low-key, try not to attract attention, and try to work out where the doorman is coming from.

However I think Sperto mentioned a little while back (correct me if I am wrong) that some apartment owners have tried to block p4ps. Most assume you are not going to take p4ps back but don't have a horrific clause in the contract. I don't go up to an apartment owner and tell him or her that I intend to use the place just for that. If there is something in the contract and they feel strongly about it, I suppose a doorman could rat out the person 'abusing' it. Bear in mind some people living in the edificio feel, quite understandably, that it lowers the tone. Contrary to what some people tell you, ordinary Brasilians don't think p4p is normal, especially on their doorstep.

As I say, I have never personally come across a problem, but Sperto knows his stuff so I for one am not about to discount his opinion.

When you check the apartments in the website, go to HOUSE RULES. There you'll find things like:

No Pets Allowed.

Smoking Allowed in the balcony only.

Please avoid making noises during resting hours.

Etc.

My point is that if they don't mention anything about bringing guests, then it's your own business.

Also, as Christopherd mentions, AirBnB is not an agency but a website and you deal, mostly, with particulars trying to make some extra bucks.

You can check their profiles, and get a lot of interesting information about the place, like location and amenities (wi-fi, tv, ac, doorman.).

And, this is very important, the opinion of other users. Which is crucial. People telling their experiences.

After doing some research and looking also into Bubba's reports, I found out that there is a club 5 mins walking from my hotel. Cafe 400.

Address: Avenida do Pepe. 400. Barra the Tijuca.

Had a short walk, paid 50 R$ and got in. (part of the fee gives you free drinks)

My first impression was – ugly ladies night. But slowly the pretty girls (not too many) came in and I started to feel better &61514;

After few mins I put my eyes on a beautiful blonde young girl, she smiled to me and of course I gave her a big smile and she came and had a sit beside me.

I was lucky as she spoke some basic English and more lucky after less than a minute she started to kiss me with her tongue like she's in love with me for years.

We had a beer together and then she started to ask about going into the room, took the 1 hour session, paid 300R$ (cash) and we went upstairs.

Room was nice but no hot water in the shower.

Session was good almost not limit and she did everything, but I felt that she still needs to gain more skills (she told me she's 24 years old)

If I remember right her name was Luci or something similar.

A couple of my brazilian buddies had visited this place and gave me a heads up on it. However, I did not have a chance to go yet. Thanks for the report. If you have a chance, check out Paris Cafe. Just find something that suits you and rent the whole apartment. Whatever you do in the apartment is up to you. Period.

Which motel?

The one that is good quality and walking distance from VM is the Gallant, which I've used more than once. There's shops and stuff nearby and buses everywhere, but it is not exactly handy for anything else. The Metro station is very close though.

Look, there is no need to get all angry when someone mentions VM. The addiction to high-price venues puts a lot of people off posting. Please respect that everyone is entitled to their preferences. I'm not the only one that has been going to VM for more years than I can remember. It is dirty. That does not mean the girls are dirty. Most of the rooms (not all) are dirty. Facilities are very basic. It takes a long time very often to find a gem. But I've done it many times, and found first class lookers, yes I mean it, and they don't have the attitude problems of Copa girls or the high roller expectancy of the privees and termas. Many are straight from the countryside. They can work at VM and be their own boss. And the security for the girls is good. Healthcare is there and everything else they need. It's a self-contained village and a lot of people are very proud of it. There is no pre-screening that you get elsewhere so you will see hundreds of very ugly horrible women. It's a free market and only suitable for those that like to dig for the gems. It is dangerous if you are a big loudmouth. There are no concessions for gringos. I'm not recommending you go there or don't go there. But it is misleading, based on inadequate knowledge, to say it is dangerous when we talk all the time about Copa (which looks safe and isn't). Some of the streets nearby are not recommended. The one or two girlie bars immediately outside of VM are not recommended. But for experienced mongers who know how to navigate cheaper areas and have at least an idea of how to blend in, there is little or no danger. Ironic that someone uses the name as their handle and doesn't know the place well enough to have a good time there.

I don't advise anybody to go to VM, it's dirty, dangerous and the quality of the girls is a very low. Don't listen to the guys who are going to VM with locals.

What danger is there in Vila Mimosoa? If a white guy from Europe, aka Christopherd, can go countless number of times and nothing has happened then I personally don't see anything dangerous about the place. Sure it's dirty. And as for low quality girls those are probably everywhere. Just don't fuck the ones who are low quality, fuck the best ones. Always seemed to work for me anyway.

Which motel?

IMHO, the sweet spot for the "market" for P4P since 2008 has moved to the proximity of Red Light District "terma" (how it's listed on brazilian boards) and the Tijuca prives, like Annes, Mix, and Massagem Tijuca. The motel that you reference would be within a healthy man's daylight walking distance of all of the above (and Mosaico, VM). This is per the brazilian boards. Always doing internet recon for my next RJ trip!

There's a very upscale motel within walking distance of VM that will impress anyone (except a non-pro, who generally thinks motels are no-no's unless she's married, in which case they're a yes-yes).

I need to find a way to find apartments out of Zona Sul, in places like Tijuca. I guess sites like airbnb or others mentioned here on the board but I am not sure how to go about telling the owner that I might be bringing back women now and then.

However, if you want to crack a few jokes and have conversation, you might be screwed. There was only one gal, a mulata who use to work at Monte Carlo that speaks a couple of words of English.

Without going into too much detail on this thread, as there is a separate thread for accommodation, a simple answer is to use a motel. There's a shitty one in north Centro I've used that's very handy but of course Copa girls look aghast at the thought of going there. (But I've found many Copa girls are less than their best once out of Copa anyway. They become self-conscious, forget their Copa super-hottie act and so on.) There's a very upscale motel within walking distance of VM that will impress anyone (except a non-pro, who generally thinks motels are no-no's unless she's married, in which case they're a yes-yes). But Centro is less attractive if you want to spend evenings in Copa. For Tijuca, if its a short time (eg I'm just off the plane and want to go to VM without bringing home a carry-out) there's a first-rate Tijuca hostel that's walking distance from VM and easy connection to central Tijuca. In Centro, for reasonably upmarket, either of the Ibis hotels allow visitors with no questions (unless you push it too far). The Formule next to the Ibis just off Carioca, by Lapa, is slightly cheaper but not worth the savings. The traditional cheapo hotel opposite both costs next to nothing, is seedy, but costs next to nothing. Be careful in the main street going past the cathedral to Lapa if you stay in any of these three of course. Great location otherwise, next door to cheap termas, near shops markets bars restaurants nightclubs, Carioca metro, easy bus to VM.

For safety in north Centro, I practiced getting to know the area by day until it was second nature. It's essential I feel not to look as if you are lost when walking around there at night - both for how one feels and also how one looks.

Florida from my own experience has always varied immensely depending on whether there are ships in port, and it can be busy or lifeless. Doesn't worry me personally as VM is my backup any night and only a few bus stops away, but VM is not exactly popular with most of the current posters here and is distinctly seedy as you probably know (I disagree with the poster who called it dangerous. Copa is far more dangerous in terms of danger of getting mugged).

I think Maua (Florida area) is pencilled for a pre-Olympics make-over but good luck. BTW there are nearly always a few north centro (ie between Vargas and Maua) places open on Sunday. They are cheap and mostly a bit grubby. Lots of semi-dark streets but I have stayed in the area and found it ok once you acclimatize. You get to know the local faces and it ceases to be scary-looking, same as VM. But not an area to wander around straight off the plane unless you are very sure of yourself. I am guessing someone will flame me for mentioning it but I have been mugged in Copa, never in VM / north centro. I have a friend who amuses himself from his shop in Copa by guessing which passers-by are about to be mugged. Whereas in the poor areas, people look out or each other and, once you are accepted, I find that includes you.

Thanks Christopherd, you are right about the scary bit, the last time I tried to go, I went to early (10ish) and it was deserted with just a few women and old men sitting outside and having drinks. I kept on walking to the bus stand to catch a bus back. The second time, I went to MV30 but got lost and then wandered back to the candelaria at the end of Vargas. I like to walk during day and night time in Centro and Copa at night (and taking the buses) against repeated advice from my apartment owner. I agree that the more I walk about and get to know the areas, the less intimidating they become. One day, I hope to able to go to VM without any worries.

In Copa, the place I usually rent doesn't have any such problems and the doormen are quite friendly.
