What tips could you give for the cities as I can not find any info for the small cities and please recommend accomodation. The prices for the hotels can go up to 140Euro. Please give me your ideas, I will be really gratefull.

as a newbie to this particular forum here’s my first posting aimed especially for anyone who might be considering visiting sofia for the first time.

here i have tried to put things in perspective like the price of hotels, girls, locations etc.

any way, i hope you find it helpful.

sofia as a good mongering destination is still, it seems, getting mixed reviews.
some claim it’s now become too expensive with typical high london/europe prices and not much street action, (or) not much street action but still a good selection of girls and still reasonably cheap if you know where to look. but bulgarian women in general, most of us would agree, are quite something.

with 3 visits starting in 2007 now under my belt and another trip already planned to see in this new year, i agree with the last two comments adding if i may ‘sexy’ and ‘highly ‘fuckable’ and if we start comparing sofia to places like amsterdam or hamburg then i tend to agree too that sofia does not have much street action.
what little there is of it – very seedy - and also in my opinion can be quite dodgy too is around the lion bridge in front of the lion hotel and crossing the road, around the sun hotel. this is typical get-your-wallet-stolen street gypsy territory and even if you did meet a reasonable good looking one who was not a junkie or looked like one, it is doubtful anyway that you would get her past the hotel doormen. the other option of course is renting an apartment in the centre. i’ll come back to that later.

so what’s the attraction? you might ask, why not go to nearer places like prague or budapest? well, thankfully having not joined the dreaded euro yet and bulgaria will not join until at least 2012; and being one of newer countries to join the eu, accommodation entertainment and food and drink in bulgaria’s capital still remains wonderfully inexpensive, in fact around a third of what you would pay in london and that includes taxis including a standard 10 lev fare on the meter for the 6 miles ride from the airport into the center of town. just a pity the same can’t be said about golden sands on the black sea which was ruined (practically overnight) when bulgaria officially joined the european union and prices doubled.

and dare i say it too in these politically correct times but if you enjoy a cigarette or cigar with your drink, meal or coffee then in sofia you are in paradise. add to this classy bars that open late together with exceptionally beautiful women, that actually are quite approachable, now rather than later is the time to visit.

still, whether picked up from the street or in a bar, my personal preferences when playing away has firstly always been with freelancers for as well as being the cheaper option, generally i have found the girl working alone will do everything you ask for, for no extra charge, and will usually stay with you longer and it is for this reason that i have clocked up more than a few kilometres of exploring (usually on foot) sofia city’s darker nooks and crannies.

but in sofia you can walk for hours and not see a thing only to shoot your load somewhere else and then be approached later in the street by a beautiful women or two when you least expected it. sofia is like that. one of my more memorable street experiences was from non pro of all people i picked up outside a sex shop close to the hotel rodina during my first ever visit. 23, short cropped red hair, short leather skirt and a nice pair of legs, and enroute to varna where she lived, she agreed to ‘kill time’ for 3 hours back at my hotel. emerging from the bathroom to me lying bullock naked on the bed, i remember she was wearing skimpy black underwear making me rock hard as i pulled her tits out (nice round medium size and 100% real and pale and white) and rubbed my cock all over them. could have come easily at that stage but refraining from spraying her i pulled down her underwear and as she stepped out of them i turned her around and made her bend down like she was touching the floor and condom on and rubbing first her ass while i was shooting and she was moaning, i fucked her pussy as hard as i could.

it was during my first trip there, during the easter weekend, a time i definitely don’t recommend especially if you were like me and only there for 3 days because the place almost turns into a ghost town as people tend to leave town that weekend to visit their families. the 2 or 3 escort agencies i spoke to at the time – the others i phoned just rang and rang with no answer - told me the same thing, to ring back after monday. the bars that i thought would be lively were not, and even a visit out of sheer desperation to the infamous fetish club on visa blvd purely made me get the hell out of there sick with disappointment after only one much overpriced drink. so meeting that girl on the street when i did and the fact that i was able to start up a conversation was a godsend to what i thought of at the time was turning out to be a pointless disappointing trip and for me a total waste of time and one of the main reasons why i’ve since returned.

so just to finish off my findings regarding sofia’s street action (or lack of it):
as well as the mentioned luvov most (lion bridge) area which gets busier at night, by day – meaning from mid afternoon to early evening - i’ll share the following;
try the small clutter of bars by the travel agents and tacky souvenir shops across the road from the central railway station. (mainly rough looking gypsies.) two offered me a twosome for 50 lev each but as they wanted me to go back to their room which i was too scared to do and because i was too scared to bring them back to my hotel i am still yet to sample the delights of that naughty bulgarian gypsy girl with a dirty mind and a glint in her eye.

warning though, walking around the train station area late at night is not recommended, nor is the stochna gara roundabout (renowned curb crawling territory) 10 minutes walk along slivnitsa blvd from the lion hotel.

or

try the area around the mosque off maria luiza blvd and crossing over, the streets behind the old market hall close to scotty’s hotel.

here i have picked up the same girl twice. her name is pronounced linya, black curly hair 30 years old and putting on a few pounds but still in shape and gives good service. usually hangs around with two others (blonde hair dyed). linya basically does everything you ask for, for 2 hours for 60 lev and last time i bought her dinner afterwards and she only took 50 lev.

or

the bars and cafes in the park gardens and squares from the national theatre all the way towards the alexander nevsky cathedral. as well as being a nice pleasant walk any way, have got eye contact and occasional smiles from the girls in this area sitting alone usually on the park benches. picked up a very sexy and cute 19 year old romanian girl with light brown hair and glasses outside the russian church and had a sort of gf experience buying her an ice cream and coffee first. no full sex that time, just a blow job with her topless which again cost me 50 lev and another few good jerk offs afterwards!

or

try the part of the square in front of the sheraton hotel where the church is across the road from the happy bar & grill.

sections of the main ring road outside sofia is another pick up place and has had lots of bad reports in the press but the fact that you would need a car of some description and be able to speak bulgarian is of little use even with prices starting from as low as 30 lev.

next up on the list but to slightly higher prices are the apartment girls who if they bother to advertise at all only advertise in the bulgarian cyrillic alphabet in the local newspapers.

here prices start from around 60/70 lev for the hour for foreigners and locals pay less.

the advantages of these places are that you can go for a quick lay in privacy and relative safety at any hour of the day like say 11 o’clock in the morning if you feel the need and you can choose your lady from usually a minimum of three, again depending on the time of day.

the main disadvantage is finding a knowledgeable taxi driver who you can trust to take you there and hope at the same time he’s not greedy with his cut or commission. personally if that person exists i have always been unlucky, for the only time i seem to get nice helpful taxi drivers is when i’m not mongering at night as a sex tourist. most of these girls do visit but still it’s not much use if you can’t read the newspaper adverts in bulgarian or communicate with them.

so from the freelances on the street to the ones in the bars:

in sofia, in every crowded bar or disco whether it’s a classy 5 star hotel or local tavern, providing the place is busy and packed there will be at the very least one freelancer at the bar trying to make eye contact. whats on listings will give you the latest ‘in’ places.

my two favourites at the moment from dozens of other choices is sin city on hristo botev and planet club on oborishte str where i have picked up some real beauties for around the 100 lev mark plus drinks and taxis etc for all night gf experience. be sociable, reasonably presentable and to some extent generous with buying the odd drink for friends too and see the rewards.

the much higher price option is of course the many ‘hotel visiting escort services’ who advertise in english in all the hotel ‘whats on’ guides. no matter how conservative, prim or proper your hotel might be they will guarantee discretion but at a price.

with prices starting at around 120 lev for one hour for local girls (currently half of what you would pay in london) or is now more the case – starting at around 120 euros for the crème del le crème, you are really paying for top ‘international’ model looks. but if you are going to spend this sort of money, take a tip from me of a great tip i was given and use the service to the full.

remember bulgarians are very liberal people and so will be the person taking the ‘fuck bookings’ on the other end of the phone. so when you ring up, instead of saying something like i want a nice blonde around 25 with large breasts to arrive in the next 30 minutes; as well as stating what you would like her to wear and what you would like her to look like also state what you would like her to do like anal, [CodeWord103], spanking for example and if it’s going to take that particular person a little longer, say around 2 to 3 hours to get to you so be it for there is nothing worse (and for me ) nothing more of turn-off when that ‘friendly’ person from the ‘best escort service in town’ starts dictating the ground rules like no touching here, no kissing there once you have handed your money over and she’s starting to undress. my worst experience of this was recently while in transit in budapest leaving me 150 euros out of pocket but thankfully while the service from the two escorts i’ve so far had in sofia from two different agencies have not been perfect, both have fully met my expectations both in looks and physique again at under half the price i would pay in london. also there’s something quite special wouldn’t you agree, while waiting in high expectation for that sweet music to your ears sound of a gentle knock on your hotel room door.

regarding accommodation and where to stay, in sofia it is still possible to find a good centrally located hotel starting from around 50 euros a night but like anywhere in the world location, location is the key. supposing you do screw up though, it still shouldn’t be too much of a problem as the taxis in the city are cheap and frequent to get you from a – b.

starting from the luxury top end, of the eight or so 5 star properties in sofia, surprisingly only 4 are located near enough to the centre to justify the higher room rates.

for comfort, larger than most beautiful standard rooms and a position right bang in the centre of sofia the grand hotel sofia couldn’t be in a better central location and even so, the room rates there are lower than both the radisson sas 10 minutes walk away and the sheraton (the most expensive property yet with smaller rooms) only 5 minutes walk from the grand.

if you are into smaller hotels, the luxury boutique style les fleurs on vitosha blvd is again more central than most.

whilst the hilton and the nearby kempinski hotel situated out near the suburbs on the lower slopes of mount vitosha require a taxi every time you set foot outside the door, the holiday inn which doesn’t even show up on some maps is probably the furthest 5 star hotel away from the centre.

most of sofia’s 5 star hotels may charge for overnight guests but this is still much a grey area. having just visitors to your room and providing they don’t leave the hotel too late at night should not be a problem as i’ve found at the radison and grand hotel sofia, but there they charged me the full euro rate for a ‘breakfast’ in the morning my overnight guest did not have.

regarding sofia’s 4 star hotels, whilst the majority of them are quite central, most by western standards should only be classed as 3 star.

two of the exceptions, both tall and modern and deserving their respective 4 star rating with casino, indoor pool and the full works, the sofia princess and it’s twin sister the hotel rodina (and nightclub) on the other side of town to the west of the centre are just too far away from the action. both hotels though, do a great highly recommended (but with no extras) full body massage service for around 36 lev for 40 minutes and every time the masseuses have been young and stunningly beautiful including of note a very appealing gwen stefani look alike working at the princess.

as a place to stay though, here’s some more four-star hotel options:

the salt palace hotel slightly closer to the action on tri ushi str has nice rooms on par with any 5 star hotel; the larger best western city on stara planina str (close to the kama sutra club) is another popular choice as is the smaller ‘old worldly’ gloria palace hotel on maria luisa blvd.

however, most of the hotels right in the centre of sofia (that can be anything from a renovated large public building or house) are classed as three-star.

as the written guides might say, some have their own unique charm but others, i suspect, are rundown fucking depressing places to stay and i wonder how many people have done just that, as well as adding to their pain by not having done any research first on sofia.

from the old worldly architecture buildings like the lion and sun hotel already mentioned, the best position of them all for all the lively bars is the 3 star hotel rila very close to the grand hotel sofia and that may explain too the high 4 star hotel room prices.

another option too for one of the best locations in sofia might be to pay for a room upgrade at the ugly soviet era style two-star (at least they are being very honest) slavyanska beseda hotel on slavyanska str. i have been in worst hotels. or the 3 star hotel art on dondukov blvd just down from the sheraton is in a good position too.

according to some of the stuff i have seen on the internet, it is possible to rent a luxury one bedroom apartment bang right in the center for around 50 euros a night. with the little research i have so far done i’ve found one company that even picks you up free of charge from the airport.

with some girls being very shy at coming back with you to a smaller hotel and the larger hotels sometimes charging extra for your room guests, this option looks quite tempting.

some of these apartments look fantastic with all mod cons from free broadband internet connection, flat screen cable television and dvd players to queen size beds and modern fully equipped kitchens with microwave ovens and crystal wine glasses but i can’t see this idea working too well if your flight arrives late at night, or even worse leaves early in the morning for who is going to check you in or check you out at that unearthly hour and check the inventory list? and how good will the guests ‘word’ be to the letting agency if say on day 2 you notice a large cigarette burn on the carpet?

if anyone has rented an apartment in sofia for only a few days, i would appreciate any feed back.

finally, sofia’s erotic bars/striptease clubs i have purposely left until last mainly to make a point.

out of all the 5 well known ones in town all with their own unique selling points like,
the taboo club strategically placed close to the radisson sas hotel (house specialty, hostess lying naked covered in fruit salad), the fetish club on vitosha blvd close to the sheraton (uniforms, fetish costumes and role play if you own an oil well and can afford the champagne lady drinks), cleopatra’s (high class hostess bar) near the kempinski and hilton and velvet near the hotel rodina, kamasutra back down on dondukov blvd is probably the safest, non intimidating least expensive one of them all.

so what do you get for sofia’s only non intimidating least expensive striptease bar?
answer: probably the least attractive pole dancers in town and of those, the least attractive ones take their full kit off and from those least attractive who tend to just stroke the pole looking half asleep at the same time, the very very least attractive girls in the club will go with you to a back room for what is now (if the recent reports i have read are true) a minimum fee of 200 lev and 100 lev per hour after that after you have paid for 2 or 3 lady drinks first. at the kamasutra the waitresses treat you like shit, and even more so if you are bold enough to ask for the drinks menu first, like i did, and was ignored thereafter until hopefully for them i walked out in disgust. i didn’t, only out of principle for paying first the entry fee or cover charge at the door. when the drinks came, maybe after half an hour at higher than london west end prices (very expensive for sofia, but still, to be expected) the waitress kept the change and more the fool for me, got away with it a second time. it wouldn’t have been so bad if she had at least smiled.

basically to appreciate these places you have to go in with a carefree happy attitude, ideally in a small group if you can and tip the waitresses well, smile or no smile. at the kamasutra club the lady drinks are reasonable at around 20 euros a time but double that if you are going to visit any of the other places and the golden rule is, don’t arrive directly by taxi but find first a nearby landmark like a restaurant bar or hotel and walk it from there.

my one and only visit to the fetish club was by taxi. basically the stupid moron of the driver i had who said he had no change to give me almost took me by the hand inside, even tried to tell me where to sit and stood over me while i ordered my drink and to top it all started beckoning the girls he chose for me to come and sit at my table. the fact that i told him to get lost in so many words didn’t go down too well either. yes bulgarians can be very stupid as well. what a fuck up of an evening.
so what is my point?

well, as i said at the beginning of this report some say as well that sofia has become too expensive with london/europe prices. that is also true but of course depends on where you go in sofia. even so, from every city in the world from seattle to sydney strip clubs and erotic hostess bars have always been rip off no go areas for the not so rich so why should sofia be any different?

Yes, there IS a Turkish minority in Bulgaria, but I somehow don't think the girls you came across belong to it. Those guys are not particularly dark skinned; they are most readily identified by their "middle eastern" facial traits (e.g. long narrow faces, etc). That said, there's a large Gypsy community (or, being PC, Roma community...) in Bulgaria and their women often find their way into the lower-end prostitution scene. Apparently it is much better to change € into $ before you leave, even if you're in Euro zone

€500 = $600 dollars (approx) depending on exchange rate.

Then change it to LEV when you get there!!

$600 = 1175Lev

€500 = 980Lev

this means you get nearly 200LEV extra! These figures are approx due to currency fluctuations but at present the rate € to $ is 1.22, the banks will give you approx 1.20.

I've just been given this info from a friend who has just returned and that is what he did!
