Sad that the bus vanette is no longer working, due to the airport mafia.

Posts: 535Some BM quoted he paid 35000 AR for a taxi from Ivato airport.
Well I succeeded to get 20 k both ways once I got confirmation from a local girl it was the normal rate. So keep bargaining guys don't make vazahas fooler than they are.
People who ask 50 k or more are to be ignored including hotel transfers.

Hi Concarne,
I have been twice and I think you will find it not so much different than 7 years ago. Probably in general better infrastructure (a little better) with many exceptions, such as the road from Diego to Ambanja. It barely deserves the name road, much less a national highway.
I suspect there are less opportunities to find girls not in the game unless you are into the boonies but I don't mind pay for play so for me it's a non issue. Unless things have changed in 10 months then I suspect you will find no shortage of girls wherever you go. I am more into availability and looks rather than student, semi pro pro etc. Etc. I don't care as long as we click and have a good time. As for beaches and parks, still plenty around and the eco thing has become popular so no lack of options if you want that.
I am of the opinion that there are no more Shangri Las out there and if there is people who know of it are smart enough to keep it to themselves! Interestingly I too was thinking of a jaunt to SA specifically Ecuador, Peru and Chile. My lack of Spanish is the main drawback but I also like to see things in a new country other than clubs and bars. That's not to say I don't want to find the girls and brothels, if there any to be found!
I will be there for at least some of the time you are, specifically the last couple of weeks of August in Diego and then later on to Tamatave with the idea of a side trip to SM since DonOmar's gushing report of a new paradise! Maybe we'll cross paths.

I like Mada for the sights and the parks and beaches. And I was lucky enough to find some good girls.
I was impressed enough that I meant to go back but it is a pain to get there from the USA. So other locations are much easier like Thailand, Philippines, Colombia, etc.
But I, like you, wants to find the shangri la. Unexplored country. The way it was in thailand years ago or Cambodia years ago. I thought mada may have some of that but maybe things have changed too much.
Anyways, thanks for the extra info. Hopefully, I will be a bit lucky.
If you find a new location that may be the ideal one please let me know. I will be investigating Paraguay and Ecuador next year and maybe those places may be good. But any suggestions you may have will be appreciated.
Cheers,
Ed.

Internet is ok for normal use. Also the rates from Orange for 2 weeks are reasonable and good for watsapp. Texting, what many of the girls using, can eat up your credits quick. AllIn rates only valid for the same network. I could watch streaming TV on my tablet at some of the hotel-WiFi, although with breaks and on low quality resolution.
Ramena. Many memories. Picked her up on the road from Diego and she did stay 3 days with me.

I would not book Air Mada international either except I have little choice being in the PI right now. It is cheaper to book on the ground but then no guarantee I can fly the next day and as I have stated before I do not like Tana and have no wish to stay there any longer than possible.
As for Air Mauritius also going to Diego, I just checked their website and could not find any flights there. Where did you find your information?
I know Diego is boring. It is small and doesn't have a real beach, however Ramena is nice and is only 30-40 minutes away. A nice day trip or good for a few days away.
Having been in Mada yourself recently can you tell me if the internet is any faster or is it just as slow and unpredictable as ever?

Diego: after a few days you may get bored. Rent a moto and go to Saklava Bay. Nice beach.
