After reading the reports about the good food (ribs) on a. And. Other website, and in wake of my observations the previous evening, I decided to give the 17 Cowboys a go again. I had aspirations to get a telephone number or two from a couple of the stunning staff on display there.

I turned up at about 20:30hrs. Ribs were on my mind! Upon arrival, I was immediately ushered upstairs by a trim hostess. Not exactly a 10, but certainly do-able!"Why upstairs?" I asked. The hostess took me upstairs, we passed x2 10/10s standing around waiting to serve customers. Really, x2 10/10s. Wow! I was sat down and my order taken for ribs and an orange juice. I asked my hostess if she would like anything to drink,"No thank you, I am full!" she answered. I thought that this was strange, after all, what is the primary purpose of a hostess, if it is not to sell food and beverages? My mind started to race. Perhaps she just wanted to get a big tip and an even better tip after work? Whilst eating the paltry, burnt offerings that was offered up as piggy ribs, a notice was thrust under my nose that the 17 Cowboys were delighted to announce that they had a special Vietnamese singer this evening, and in order to cover costs, they would be charging VND 400, 000 cover charge after 22:00hrs."OK, no problem!" However, I realised that it was a Saturday evening and Premier League football should be showing elsewhere, as there wasn't a cat in hell's chance that any football was going to be shewn in this bar. The hosted was touchy, touchy and suggestive. I asked her "how it worked?" to which she replied that she would escort me on the premises whilst I was there. And after? Errr, not sure. No problem, there are plenty of pretty girls in Hanoi, and I remembered the bevy of beauties at The Fortuna. They were dead certs and ready for the taking. I asked for my bill, it came to some VND275, xxx. I was thinking of dropping the hostess $10 (VND 200, 000) but then she said,"VND 225, 000 is very little money for you. And a big tip for me. You do not want your change, you give me the change". Whilst it was my plan to give her the 200, 000, I am still a little old fashioned and don't like the girls to ask or beg for drinks or tips. Kinda pisses me off. Learn some manners, or at least have some dignity like your sisters in Sukhumvit, Bangkok. I told her to bring me back VND 100, 000 as the change, as I wasn't used to girls telling what tip to give. The 100, 000 came back and like the soft prat I am, I gave it to the hostess. She thanked me and let me walk out of the bar unescorted. The Vietnamese bargirls certainly are more forward than there counterparts in Nana or Cowboy.

So, still having a couple of hundred US$ in my pocket and something else burning a hole in my pocket, I decided to go for a dead cert. The question was, Fortuna or Hanoi Hotel?

The taxi driver is a young man. He is quite happy to take me to The Lake Side Hotel, but he knows many beautiful ladies who would give me a 2hr massage for $20 and full service for $100. In the taxi, the kid is surprised to see me so soon. I told him no luck, no special. Back to the Lakeside Hotel. The meter is running, and damn, it is running fast! From near the Turtle Tower to the Lakeside Hotel. 400, 000 ($20). Hmmm, not sure about this, but I'm a newbie to Vietnam and learning fast. Reading the posts, it would appear as though Hanoi is a lot different to Bangkok. Whilst the girls are pretty, the customs aren't so nice!

This place is a bar, with live music. If you sit in and order a beer, soon girls will appear and sit next to you to talk and keep you drinking. Most of this girls here willing to go our after work to hotel for FS. The Bar is stay open until midnight. So I recommend to come here around 10-11PM drink few beer, choose the girl, and wait until her shift ending. 20-40 girl in the bar, most of them 7-8/10, but if you lucky easy to pick up even 9/10 girls. Don't go to the places in Ngoc van they are really low end and are the sorts of places where the girls are working after being trafficked hence the poor reports on here. If you want full service for a million or less just go to any of the local VIP massage type places and once you hit it off with a girl many are willing to meet in a hotel or Nha Nghi for around 700k to a million. Also there are many massage places in the outer districts ie long bien or dong anh where you can get full service for 500 k on the spot. Go a little further to say Tuson and it becomes 300 k.

Just to see clear: in Hanoi the average salary is 200-250USD / month. My house maid with clean up make 250 / month, and its not a high end job.

80USD for sex is sounds a lot compare with other average salary, but in VN the prostitution is illegal. And its not Thailand where the police don't care about this kind of activity. This girls who make money with sex, risk few year jail. So this is the reason why they are not cheap.

So many foreigner who come here think "yeah I'll pick up a girl for a week with 10$. Its Vietnam, I'll be the king with 10$!" 30 years ago after the war, when most of the Vietnamese starved it was true, I heard stories girls sold their bodies for a small bag of rice. But these days Vietnam is not that cheap country any more. If you want to have sex for coins travel to Laos, Cambodia or Africa.
