I've never mistaken a portero or a security guard for a policeman. The police here are really quite distinctive. They are dressed more like army personel than police men. And they usually have a bright reflective "policia" vest so they really stand out.

Try Lifeafar investments, formerly First American Realty. They have a lot of apartments especially around Poblado. There's also Poblado Rentals, but I wouldn't recommend them. Too many people have horror stories about dealing with the owner. There's also Provenza True Content you can find on Facebook. Not paranoid, Some people just enjoy not blinking and keeping the eyes on the predator. It's fun and it keeps one alive attentive and in the moment. It's like doing detective or monitoring work.
