Lebanese 60, Erbil is definitely changing fast. Sorry, I don’t have any more current first hand information about Sullaymania, I haven’t been there in a while. I know from a lot of reliable second hand info that there is a lot going on over there regarding prostitution, and as soon as I finish my current work I’ll head out there with some friends that know the area and post some first hand accounts.

I have a little more info about Erbil, although currently I’m not in a situation where I’m by myself for more than an hour or two during a 24 hour day. This will change in a month, so I’ll have more info then. Here’s what I can add:

If you’re a regular in Erbil, the German restaurant in Ainkawa has rooms you can rent beside it, every taxi driver in the city knows where it is, it’s near the street where you have to register with the local security if you’re a foreigner. The owner of the restaurant is pretty cool, and will let you stay there with a guest no questions asked (40-70 dollars per night, cheaper than any other place). Now as far as finding a ‘guest’, I’ve seen a few Arab girls there flirting with people, they're most likely pros, I’ll find out soon.

If you want to find a ‘regular’ girl, you can try the Edge bar also in Ainkawa, down the street from the Beirut bar. All of the foreigners go there Thursday nights. Most of the foreign girls are sex starved and are always looking for someone to charm them if you’re up for it. So if you succeed there, head out to the German restaurant afterwards and get a room (privacy is difficult to come by for most foreigners, especially women).

Sheraton has opened the first nightclub in town. Located on the 9th floor the club has 2 Russian girls and 2 Baghdadi girls. You will get service if you get to know the manager and stay at the hotel (costy).

And this region is nothing like the South, there's not much crime here and you can walk around without security. My work isn't security related at all. I would have loved to go to the overpriced--10 bucks for nasty fried rice-- RTI compound for a beer but I have already left Baghdad.

Lucky for you that you travel far enough to take a Blackhawk. I visited the ministries a few times each week in Baghdad so it wasn't feasible to take a chopper for the 3-5 mile journey.

The Chinese restaurant next to CASH never gave extra services as far as I'm aware--just an unprofessional clothed massage.

Thanks for the tip about the chicas in Kurdistan, but I want to make a slight comment on the practicality on your suggestion. Let me preface my statement by saying that I work for one of--if not the-- most lenient organizations in Iraq.

First, it's Iraq and you can't just hop on plane and go pussyhunting to Erbil for a number of reasons. Unless you are based at Victory you have to take a PSD team to the BIAP. The MAMBA journey costs 700 each way and even if you are the COP and could somehow get the trip scheduled how could you justify invoicing the client for the journey. If you didn't invoice the client for it that would raise even more flags. Second, most people here are under very strict security guidelines. I'd say 80% of the people in Iraq can't leave their compounds. And 90% of the people here are working 6-7 days a week 12 hours a day. The people at KBR work everyday for six months at a time. This is a good thing as people would do silly things if they weren't too dead tired to do them. Finally, many, but not all, companies here have personal conduct guidelines so you really have to watch who you tell what you do. What business does one have in Kurdistan? Some people can get away with murder in Iraq--I mean that literally--and other civilians will get sent home for having a beer. Getting sent home and loosing your six figure tax free salary is something you should consider when looking for P4P in Iraq.

But, yea, if you based in Kurdistan you can have a more decent time than if you’re in the Arab areas.

A couple of years ago Sullaymania was where all the locals and foreigners in the North would go to get laid. I went there a few times for work, and even though I didn't get a chance to sample the locals (did get a BBC intern), they were absolutely gorgeous. A lot of these girls are Kurds comming in from Iran where women are very liberal when it comes to sex. And now I hear there are a lot of Persian girls fleeing Iran who have decided to earn money doing something they really like, having sex. I know the flights from Baghdad to Arbil are cheap, and you can take a very safe taxi ride to Sullaimania from Arbil for 60-100 dollars, or about 20 dollars if you ride with locals. I think you can also fly in straight to the Sullaimania airport from Baghdad, but I don't know too much about it. And this region is nothing like the South, there's not much crime here and you can walk around without security. Jon, I don't think that one could obtain entrance to the cat-house that I found without being accompanied by an Iraqi who is close to the owner--I think the guy who owns the place is the brother of my driver. I tried to go back solo and the IP would not let me in the complex.

I may have been lucky by finding some *****s but I sure as hell was not three days ago when my convoy was shot up. This place is not for me--no matter how many hazard, post, and 6th day bumps I get. My first foray out into the Red Zone—or the National Zone as it’s now called —will be my last. Good luck to all you men that remain.

On a slightly different note, it's funny the way people react when faced with life and death situations. My boss, a 50ish WASPy female, was stoically calm and was cracking jokes as a VED took out the disabled lead car in the convoy. The former Navy Cmdr sitting next to me shit and pissed himself while constantly emitting something between a sob and a howl. As for myself, I became incredibly angry at both everyone and no one, slouched down, and mumbled profanities for the eight minutes the firefight lasted.

You are a fortunate man to find ass here in the IZ so quickly. I live here and it took me 4 months to get my connections. We have a PSD team contact who brings us these Iraqi cuties but dangerous it is. Is this area you mention, across from the NEC in those high rise apartments? I go there about 3 nights a week for the broasted chicken and swarmas, but never noticed any potential activity.

There is at least one brothel in the IZ by the NEC in the tan colored apartment complexes. I paid $100 last night for a 6-7 24 yo widow. The only caveat is that you need to have a place where the girls can spend the night. The place isn't really an in-house operation, but rather is like a cat-house where girls from outside the IZ come to meet potential clients. I found the place through one of my Iraqi drivers who lives in the complex so I guess I am very lucky. I am only assuming--I've been in Iraq for less than a week--but I think an Iraqi guide is a sine quo non to getting the party started. I got the impression that not too many non-nationals frequent the place.

The girls there were all working I assume but they are not hardened pros. I was really nervous so I didn't get a complete grapple on the vibe of the place but many of the girls seemed to me to be looking for mononogmous relationships in exchange for sponsorship. Within a few hours of the girl hanging out in my compound she started yapping about being my "honey" in Iraq; she also beeped me 41 times today. I think I will take her up on her offer as she is pretty good looking and speaks decent English.

Damn near everyone in Iraq is more security conscious than I am but the IZ is palpably much less secure/safe than it was when I was here 20 months ago--something like 4000 Iraqis living in the IZ and most of them are unvetted...plus ones with escort badges can take up to 15 of their homeys into the IZ with them at any given time.

Please be careful men. This place is getting more violent by the pay cycle.

All I hear all day long from my Iraqi counterparts is "Tomorrow I will go to the brothel and my favorite b***h will BLANK and BLANK and then we will BLANK". All for a pittance in terms of $$$. All I can do is stand there looking off into space, recalling something from my long ago called 'pootang' and being pretty sure that I liked it very much.

Then this same group of Iraqi counterparts will offer to buy me a dishdashe, a turban, a hookah, in other words useless crap. I tell them no: I want a ho. They look at me with pity. "This is the one thing we can't bring you...".

"Oh yeah? Well it is the only thing you have in the Red Zone that I need." Well... actually that one creampie DVD they brought me was actually pretty useful, but then I got a roommate and well, what use is it now?

I feel like Shakespeare's Richard III: "A HOrse, a HOrse, my kingdom for a HOrse", except in this case you drop RSE off of horse, and by kingdom I mean any cash amount I could reasonably get my hands on. You get the idea.

Not long before I got here there used to be a "Baghdad Country Club" up by the palace. Basically it was a small restaurant with a liquor store and girls for hire. But some jerk-off had to open his mouth and there was a crack down in the name of freedom, mom, and apple pie. Actually it was more like an anti-P4P jihad. And we wonder why marines are going nuts and contractors like me are charging ridiculous money. At least in Vietnam they had the "Oh, me so horny" girls. Here getting hit on involves an errant mortar round or some big guy named Osama who likes the fact that we don't behead homosexuals in America and does the traditional Arabic meet-and-greet hug-and-handshake just a little bit too long, and a little too close.

I have been here for over 9 months straight. Take my advice... do not come here for more than four months at a time between R&R. At least go to Dubai and hit the Zodiac once every four months. Unless you are lucky enough to work in the red zone (never thought I'd ever say that) or have a large enough schwang to beat off every other Tom, DICK, and Harry trying to put wood to every living snaggle-tooth female to step off as chopper YOU WILL GO INSANE.
