Another question if you guys don't mind. Are there times I should or shouldn't visit? Seems most places say try to visit Jan. / Feb. Or late summer for most places in Colombia, for weather reasons. Is that correct?

I saw a post somewhere that during elections, everything closes early and they don't serve alcohol or something. I assume there won't be another election for a while again (not annual I hope?) but any other random things like that I have to avoid?

Weather wise, Bogota is now in the rainy season. It can be cold by Colombian standards, I don't mind the temperature. In general Central and S. America clears up in December and continues that way until March / April. Remember predicting the weather is dicy at best. We had a destination wedding for one of my daughters in Saint Lucia, was in the dry season, well so much for the dry season, it rained cats and dogs for 3 of the 4 days we were there, you pays for money and you take your chances.

Also I would advise to avoid Christmas time and Semana Santa. Election time and one day Holidays wouldn't have more than a day or so effect. Take the plunge, enjoy and be safe.

What would be the best way to go about finding some attractive arm candy for the trip to keep me company for most of the time? Is there a way to go about that at all? One of my best mongering experiences ever was taking a beautiful 22 year old Paisa I met at the Mansion on a 2 day trip to visit Hacienda Napoles. Had I known how good it would be I would have made it a 7 day trip. We had not had sex before the trip. She was "occupied" with another Gringo staying at the Mansion. But I had gotten to know her hanging out and knew she wanted to see Napoles. I asked if she'd like to go once he returned to the US and she said absolutely. (I don't think he was thrilled, but she was not his wife). We had a great time (including sex) and when we got back I asked her what the appropriate payment was. She said she felt like she should pay me. I still gave her something like 600,000 COP. She later took me to her family home and I knew she needed it. I was in my forties at the time.

It can be done. They aren't all mercenaries. But you need to get to know them a bit first. Don't think you can pick a girl off the street corner and go away for a week. Mansion is a good place to try. (I am not a shill, Mansion's wrong for the budget punter who just wants as many SWs as possible.).

And the other aspect of this is from the chica's point of view. These gals have a dangerous occupation. Not many are going to go off with someone they don't know without their own protection. We can look at it from our point of view, of danger to us. But the danger is far greater for them, going off with someone they don't know for who knows what sort of kinky stuff. So again, I would be very suspicious of any takers on your plan.

Best visit places you want to see and hook up locally in places where everyone feels safe. Ie a hotel that will copy or hold the gal's cedula while you are in the room with her. Then everyone knows there is some public record there of who saw who when, which means that no one is likely to go criminal in some way.

Yeah I kinda figured it would be a pretty low chance of success. I know in the dr they have agencies that will let you hire a girl to give you tours and sleep with you. Don't mind paying the money honestly.

Thailand immigration asked for yellow fever vaccination proof when I was arriving from Nairobi. I have never been asked when arriving from Asian countries or north america.

Ideal vacation for me would involve being on the water, doing ocean activities like snorkeling and booze cruising. A little bit of nightlife / clubbing / dancing. I'm not big on visiting historical sites. I don't want to be among too many tourists if possible. I know this is very open-ended, but it would be cool to do a once-in-a-lifetime activity of some sort while on vacation (for example another idea was whale-shark diving in the Yucatan before I settled on Colombia).

A very tall order. Most people in Colombia, like most everywhere, can't just drop everything they are doing and go off for a week with a total stranger. So for sure only a sex worker, and even then one that doesn't have much of a life. And if you are looking for arm candy that would weed out many of those. But there are chicas waiting for just such a chance. Someone they can get close to and then drug and call their accomplices in to rob, and if you are lucky, to leave you unconscious.

Anyway. Once you live in a place for a while, get to know people, you may find a girlfriend of some sort that would vacation with you. But to expect to just come in and find someone that is "arm candy" to hang out with you and travel around is, I think, unrealistic, and possibly risky.

Thanks! Added both to my list of potentials destinations! How would you differentiate the vibe and activities between those two locations? Looks like san Andres has better ocean activities while Santa Marta is more of a small / medium sized city with more history / culture, is that correct?

There are many unique experiences to be found in Colombia, depending on your interests, tolerance for roughing it, fitness level, risk tolerance, etc. However, finding an ideal companion for any type of adventure is extremely difficult without spending a lot of time weeding them out.

It's easy to find a woman who will agree to do whatever you want. Finding one that isn't going to turn it into a disaster is another matter. In addition to all the drama which can ruin your trip, many women will have unreasonable expectations, or will commit to the entire time when they have no intention to stay more than 2 days.

They still want you to fill out the form online. I'm surprised you were able to enter the Country without doing the form online.

Now with the form you have to fill out online that gives them all the info that they want to know such as all your personal info and where you will be staying. So now when you reach the person who stamps your passport there is no delay or questions. It is now a very speedy procedure. The funny thing is I always hated to fill out that form as it was always a hard task till I learned exactly how to fill it out. Of course it is my nature to complain so riddle me this. Why does Colombia make you fill out a form to leave the country?

For one to know if you have overstayed. Many countries make you fill out a form to leave the country. Maybe you are just not thinking along those lines. When you enter you will fill a form out with 2 parts, but you keep the second part with you and turn it in when you leave. Before, people on visas to the USA would have to turn in the I94 form before they left. In many countries everything is becoming electronic with systems (airline & government) crossing each other so they are able to track it like that these days.
