This is my first post here but have been viewing the board since August. I will be going to GT soon and was wondering if anybody has any thoughts about getting there? I'm thinking about taking a fight to Dusseldorf, then taking a cab. Does anyone know a cheap way of getting to GT without renting a car? Is Dusseldorf the closets airport to GT? I will be taking American airlines as a carrier.

Take a train from Duesseldorf Hbf to Kaldenkirchen and then cab it.

That would be the cheapest way to get there.

Jawohl, Duesseldorf is the closest major airport to GT.

American Airlines does not fly to DUS as far as I know. They will have to pass you on to another carrier, most likely British Air, meaning you will probably go through Heathrow. Good luck in making your connection.

The D'dorf airport is indeed the closest to GT, LR, VV and PHG. None of these places is easy to reach with public transportation except for Living Room. Really, if you are going to run the NRW circuit, then you will save time and in the end money if you rent a car. A GPS is probably also not a bad idea if it is your first visit.

If you research it and play your cards right, you can get a weekend rental for less than 100 EUR. Often much less. Also driving in D'land is a snap. No worries there.

I buzz the door and the landlady lets me in and shows me my room and asks my breakfast needs for the morning. It was €28 for a single bed in a room with a hand basin. The bathrooms are shared with other inmates at this pension. Inclusive was a good hearty breakfast of boiled egg, various seedy brown and white breads, cheese slices with hams and salamis. Good value. I also had a pot of fresh tea and decent orange juice. This place is a bit further out of town in the suburbs of Bruggen but it was quiet and I had a motor vehicle to get around.

my companions were to arrive between 3pm to 4pm. i had been given warnings by the girls the night before that the club may not let in people when the club is full and 4pm as it is a busy time. guys tend to leave gt around 6pm (going home to see their wives and children for supper?) allowing another influx of guys to be let around 7pm to late. the night before when standing in the lobby waiting for girls to collect keys or waiting to pay the girls i had seen european and asian guys in groups be turned away. the thekenfrau always had a good professional manner when she did this.

after my session with lia i see that i have a sms from my friend sent at 3:48pm saying that they had been refused entry and that they were going to villa vertigo and that they would see me tomorrow.

what had happened was at the goldentime’s door, the thekenfrau woman comes out as my non caucasian friend rings the bell and she tells them the club is full. my two friends did not make an issue and left. to describe my non caucasian friend he is a mature male, has more than enough cash to pay for his visit, is well groomed, clean and treats them politely. the german fkks and sauna clubs are private establishments so i appreciate that they may refuse entry or service to anyone at their discretion.

it was around 3:15 pm when my two companions had met up in kaldenkirchen and had come to golden time at 3:40pm. they were not allowed in to my sadness and they advised me this via cell phone at 3:48pm. i went to the dutch ice bears that i had met and explained what had happened and they were indignant that my friends had not been let in as well as they knew how i was so looking forward to seeing my friends. they were not stupid and knew the real reason why my friends were not let in but they were regular visitors as well. anyway we as a group went to security and then to reception and asked why my friends had been refused and the answer was the club was full.

i retired with the dutch ice bears and we discussed the situation. the companions that i was to meet had said that they were going to villa vertigo and would see me tomorrow. that confused me and made me indecisive. should i leave now or take the “see you tomorrow” comment as do not bother to follow them as they may not have any firm plans. i spent the next 2 hours trying to call and sms my companions but either their phones were off or they were not picking them up.

i wanted to follow them but was unsure where they would be given the mixed message i got. they may have even gone to get food elsewhere as that is something that we do as well. i then made an executive decision and said i would try my luck at villa vertigo to see if they were there as if they were not which is what i feared then i could come back to golden time as the one time daily €50 entry fee was for an all day visit. gt was setting up for 6 pm dinner which would be inside today instead of the bbq outdoors like it was yesterday. shame.

i was dressed and in my car by 6pm determined to find my friends.

i punched in villa vertigo into my gps and was told to drive out of the gt car park and proceed to heidweg turn left then turn left again onto the b221 and head north. see my other post about my visit to villa vertigo this same day.


accommodation logistics

my logistic arrangements meant that i could open the goldentime club since i had stayed overnight in bruggen at:

it was €28 for a single bed in a room with a hand basin. the bathrooms are shared with other inmates at this pension. inclusive was a good hearty breakfast of boiled egg, various seedy brown and white breads, cheese slices with hams and salamis. good value. i also had a pot of fresh tea and decent orange juice. this place is a bit further out of town in the suburbs of bruggen but it was quiet and i had a motor vehicle to get around.

due to various booking issues this week especially for the saturday night i had to book another venue for my last night in nrw. so i checked out of the gertrud optenplatz pension and went off to check in at hotel restaurant house neuenhofen. the usual brueggener klimp, bruggen and hotel zum schiffchen, bruggen and even hotel zur post in nettetal were all booked out for my saturday night. there was room at landhotel borner muhle, borner muhle 22-24, 41379 bruggen-born where singles are €53 and doubles are €83. as there were no singles left i would be paying for a double and €83 was a bit more than i was happy to pay. i understood one of my companions was staying at the landhotel venekotensee, volker schmeisse, venekotenweg 4, 41372 niederkruchten which has singles for €55 and doubles for €89.

breakfast at the hotel restaurant house neuenhofen is less salubrious than camp heide or gertrud optenplatz pension as it is a few white breakfast rolls, uninteresting salamis and cheeses, various spreads, orange juice and coffee (my choice).

the hotel restaurant house neuenhofen as the name suggests is a restaurant as well and has a specialty in fresh fish dishes as well as usual meat dishes. i made a note that i should dine here given the opportunity.
