Johnny, I hear you man, and I'm no rookie. But the two girls I paid cien to were the only diamonds in the rough, and they knew it. They'd have walked away.

The reality is without them the entire scene is even below Tijuana standards (talent-wise). It was disheartening, and I was super-stoked to somehow find girls of that quality. And they were worth it.

So yes, it's a buyer's market in terms of overall numbers. But a sad seller's market in terms of top-shelf talent!

Thanks kindly for making this forum as informative as it is. It definitely came in handy!

Here's my contribution. I included a 'travel advice' section, and a separate 'mongering' section for those already familiar.

Travel Advice.

I arrived Friday (the 26th) in the morning on a red-eye. I exited the airport, went to the parking structure, took the stairs to the second floor and re-entered the Departures area. Walked all the way down to the left and found the bank (not the exchange counters) and withdrew money at the ATM. Had to pay a 3% fee which amounted to an exchange rate of 550/1 rather than the official 568/1. It was the best deal I was going to get. There were fees on top of that from my ATM card issuer (Chase), but they reversed those in a single phone call once I got back.

I took an Interbus Shuttle from the Airport directly to the Del Rey Hotel for $10 (booked in advance). It's the best deal for convenience's sake. One the way back I would eventually take a $2 cab from the Del Rey to the Tuasa Bus Terminal and then a $1 (red) Tuasa bus to the airport. It's probably what I'd do going forward.

The Del Rey (at about $68/ night) was way better than I expected in both facilities and staff, as was the rest of the country. I originally selected Costa Rica as my vacation spot since it made so many mongering top-ten lists. Shortly after I started telling people I was headed down, I got all the book-several-days-in-the-jungle advice. Boy am I glad I did! I spent three days in Arenal at a hostel doing some genuinely life-changing adventuring that put the (decent) mongering to shame! Costa Rica is one of the best kept tourist secrets in the world, and everyone should see it. There isn't much to San Jose beyond mongering, honestly, but you can spend a month seeing nature at it's best, and it would only get better each day.

Mongering.

I got sick on my first day, probably from the red-eye travel and lack of sleep, so my first Del Rey night (a Fri) was a bust. I was in no shape for action, and spending an hour walking the lobby took everything out of me. I found a natural-looking dark haired Tica named Jaehayra with a beautiful chiseled face, and a cute if not perfect body. She asked me $80 off the bat, and would be the only one to not ask $100. She even sat with me in the lobby for a half hour while I got the shakes, but I was too sick to take her up on her offer. I cringe with regret thinking about it, since she was a truly sweet and sexy girl.

On Sat I did a scouting trip of pensions during the day from about 2 to 4 pm. I hit up IDEM (bolted shut), Relax, Pension 69, Monica's, Erotico, Little Havana, and Zona II. They all sucked. Honestly, only Relax had ONE girl I considered do-able. I'm a Tijuana veteran (the only destination I've been to in Latin America) and consider Tijuana a fairly middling spot in the global scheme. But the offering in San Jose (including most of the Del Rey) was really no better talent-wise (only logistically).

That night (Sat) I hunkered down in the Del Rey lobby and decided to find the best diamond in the rough. I found two. Both were 22-23 year old, white Ticas, and among the most beautiful girls I've ever been with. Both had spinner bodies and rockstar faces to go with them. The first one, Anny (pronounced like Amy with an 'and') gave me near-perfect GFE sex. It included one of the best and longest, uncovered blowjobs I've had in this lifetime. We got it on in several positions for truly exerting sex that had her moaning and rubbing herself furiously, while my thighs screamed for help. It put real girlfriend sex from my past to shame LOL! When all was said and done, we spent 90 mins together in bed and in the shower. I agreed to the same $100 as she was that fine-looking, but the sex wasn't nearly as inspired. She had far more rules and wouldn't get nearly as into it, but she was so hot it almost didn't matter. It's the reason I'm such a stickler to top-notch looks in the mongering world. When all else fails, it's the only guaranteed return. I blew one load rubbing against her tight ass in the shower, and managed to walk away satisfied.

I mongered in San Jose again the following Wed (the 31st) after returning from the jungle. I checked out the Del Rey lobby (where the kindly bellman Oscar watched over my luggage) at about noon. There was one stellar hottie named Yvonne who looked like a genuine 18/19-yo. She spoke Spanish only and wanted $100 for a single-shot romp. Since I didn't have my Del Rey room anymore (was heading to airport later) I offered to take her to Hotel Asia around the corner in my barely-there Spanish. She didn't seem enthused and I stopped wasting my time. What really soured me was some unshaven leg-hair though the hole in her jeans. No clearer sign of a poor attitude.

I did another short pension-circuit, hitting up Monicas, Erotico, Pension Erotica #3, Pension 69, IDEM (still shut) and finally Relax, where once again there was one decent girl. This one was a Nica named Laura (La-ooh-ra) with a pretty and wholesome face, and a decent body marred only by unfortunate belly stretch marks (oh well.) For the $31 I spent total it was a bargain, and I rushed it way more than she ever could (I needed to catch a plane).

In the overall it was a worthwhile mongering trip, but still paled in comparison to the rest of my Costa Rican experience. Even a small lick of Spanish did indeed help, BTW. I would certainly make a repeat visit, but not if it was solely for mongering. Despite the incredible sex I had with Anny, and the other reasonable experiences, the scene wouldn't rank as a world-class mongering spot in my mind. But to each his own. Otherwise, everyone should see Costa Rica once in their lifetimes!

My wingman was there Fri and Sat. Stayed at the Mora. I couldn't go.

He's not into posting on this forum so I'll tell you what he told me yesterday.

He said Friday night was "the bay of pigs" and also there were not very many girls there at all. But a high percentage of less than desirable ones.

Nevertheless he found a red head who had a great face and body and gave him an "almost" GFE. She wouldn't tongue kiss but otherwise was very good in bed, very accommodating.

So much so, he told her he wanted to have her again the next night. Like me, he will rarely do this, it has to be someone very desirable and good.

So in spite of the poor selection he scored well! 2 points for the home team!

So she showed up fairly early - 9 pm or so. On Saturday, and he was excited that maybe the 2nd time was going to be even better, since she'd be more trusting and familiar with him. As I have found to often be true, and so has he.

But he said she was actually colder on Sat. Her heart wasn't in it. Maybe she didn't really want to come back a 2nd night but did so only for the "sure thing". He said he noted that most of the girls didn't probably go back to a room with anyone as there were more guys than girls on Saturday. Yet less people all in all on Sat. Which I find distressing, as did he. Friday was not so great and Saturday less great in terms of quantity of women. However he did say that the percentage of good looking ones was a *bit* better on Saturday.

Anyway although this one he liked was less enthusiastic on Saturday he still had a fairly good time with her; though from what I gathered he probably now would not see her again.

Dumb on her part, not to muster more enthusiasm. She could have had a "regular".

Okay so here's my question to you old timers who've been coming here for years: WTF is happening? Why such lousy numbers in general and such low percentages of good looking ones vs fat or ugly ones?

I have 2 theories:

1) All the best looking girls are now going to Jaco' where the prices are better for the girls because the guys there are throwing around more money. More yuppy let's say. Or at least more guys with money to burn who are not even into negotiating perhaps. Leaving the less than great looking girls to stay at the Del Rey scene. This is my #1 theory of what is happening.

Now here's another theory: (it may be a combination of both).

2) Due to the lousy economy in Costa Rica. Cost of living higher than ever. More girls are trying out the Del Rey scene to make ends meet. This has led to more girls who really are not qualified to be pros with their looks or with their skills, but who want to give it a shot anyway, just for some $.

Thus the lousy percentages of good looking girls and a lot of amateurs who don't even know HOW to be pros. So give lousy service. Not only has this situation itself led to less good looking girls going to the Del Rey, but also less men are now coming to Costa Rica BECAUSE of this. So it's a snowball effect: less good looking girls, thus less men coming, thus less and less business at the Del Rey.

Have a door man who is trained to let in only the better looking girls, and stop letting in the pigs.

With a higher percentage of good looking girls maybe the monger tourism will increase again and more good looking girls will come to make some extra cash and more of the pigs will stay home!

What do you guys think? What the eff is going on at the Del Rey in terms of numbers of quality girls?

And is my 2nd theory a good one?

It's mostly for couples I guess but there are some singles there. "Los Lagos" a mile or so outside of La Fortuna. They have a web site.

Really great place to see the volcano from plus great hot springs included right on the premises. Many areas to enjoy the hot springs; i. e. Not just one big hot pool but nooks and crannies. Plus some bigger pools, a water slide, swim up bar etc.

Monkeys often right next to the property in a big tree by the highway (congos or howlers).

Great included breakfast!

Nice rooms.

Grounds include an area of crocodiles, an ant farm, beautiful landscaping.

A bit pricey but in the off season you might get a deal.

If you got $100 to spend (last time I checked) it's worth it. The viewing point they have of the volcan is awesome. I've been there with my girlfriend and with my wingman and always enjoyed it. La Fortuna has a great pizza place, an Italian place on the way into town from San Ramon. Looks high class and is, but not expensive for pizza. I think it has name like "Mediterranean... something or other". Can't remember...

I do recommend Monteverde. It p!ssed down rain the whole time and was still a lot of fun. I mean, it is a cloud forest so the rain was pretty much a given. I think it is one of the rainiest places in the world, actually. But it is warmish rain. Arenal, the weather has to cooperate. Monteverde, the weather is part of the experience. Never really thought about high winds at Rincóand de la Vieja. It was very hot and dry when I was there.

The most beautiful place I have been in Costa Rica is Rincn de la Vieja, a national park near Liberia, where Guanacaste and Alajuela provinces come together. It is probably one of the 5 most beautiful places I have ever been. Almost all the way north to the Nicaraguan border. Maybe about 30 km NW of Liberia on route 918.

I do not view Arenal as 'can't miss' because I sure missed it when I was there. Too cloudy. Never even saw the top of it. I took a horseback ride from there to the cloud forest at Monteverde. That was a lot of fun too.

You are right about Arenal. I missed it too due to thick cloud cover.

In my last trip last month, I went to rincan but the park was closed due to unusual high winds. Now I will go there again in my next trip but will call ahead to see if they would be open so I don't waste 6 hours just in driving. I did go to a private run business called Vandara hot springs and adventure so it was not a total waste of time. Do you recommend Monteverde? I hear it is very beautiful too.

HDR 560 CRC:1 USD.

Hotel Castillo: If paying your bill in CRC, you have to give 570 CR to pay off 1 USD of your bill.

If paying your bill in USD, you get 530 CRC for each USD (I may be wrong on this one).

Jaco: Cocal Casino 530 CRC:1 USD.

ATMs: I got 569,568 & 564 CRC: 1 USD.

I recently used WorldTravel69's list in San Jose and have the following info:

1) Centro de Masajes does not exist.

2) Pension Monica increased the rate for 1/2 HR to 14,000 colones but kept the hourly rate the same at 20,000 see (FS). BBBJ is usually available at a 5 K C. Surcharge.

I highly recommend you go for the hourly rate. This place has about 20 girls in rotation and usually about a dozen at any one time. Hours are 7 days / wk, 9 am to 7 pm. The hours are deliberately designed to cater to businessmen and tourists, as they avoid the drunken crowd that comes out later. The manager's focus is on Customer Service, a rare commodity in this business. He selects the girls for no drug use, no fake tits, and great attitude. Believe me, it works. I will dream of Diana for a long time. Because of the place's good reputation they get both local businessmen and referrals from several hotels. It is located on Calle 4 between Avenida 8 and 10, near the pedestrian streets in downtown.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I've heard about so many incredible destinations throughout the country, I truly wonder how it's not a Top-5 tourist destination for the entire world. Perhaps it's on it's way to becoming that. An impossible place to no come back to!

Thank you for the exceptional information you posted! This will be my first time travelling as well. My main question is if you could give some specifics regarding your non-mongering activities? I would love to see some of the natural beauty and have no idea where to start. I booked most of my trip in San Jose and kinda regretting it after reading your post. Any info would be appreciated.

My pleasure! I believe the town of La Fortuna near Arenal Volcano is a great "can't miss" destination for experiencing CR the first time. Great hostels with lots of people coming and going, and an endless supply of day-tour options. It's about 3 1/2 hours from SJ by shuttle ($54 each way on Interbus), or a much cheaper public bus necessitating a transfer midway. There may be closer destinations but only more experienced travelers would know. Enjoy your trip!

Your comparison is a bit "over the top." Substitute Applebee's for Jack in the Box and I might buy it!

SJ / JACO 1/31-2/6/2018.

Guys, as usual, I have a lot of minutia in here that you may not be interested in so skip over as needed:

TRANSPORTATION: Redeye from LFT- IAH no problems. Tight connection to SJO but made it with no problems. 5 Federal Agents waiting on the jetway just after scanning my boarding pass. I was in Gp 1 so I was the 4th or 5th person to board. They were just out of sight so I could not see them until I was past boarding pass scanning and in the jetway. An agent took my boarding pass & asked where I was going & I said San Jose & he let me have my passport back & said have a good flight. I sat next to a girl who was in Gp 4 & told her about it & she said she did not see them. So whomever they were looking for, they got him / her!! Customs was fairly easy, we got in just before another flight so I was almost through when the lines started filling up from another flight. UBER to the Hotel Castillo was easy but a bit expensive. 19 K CRC. The driver had to reroute do to an accident, or so he said. Anyway, no problems getting UBER. Met the 5th wingman at Adobe near the airport on Thu early afternoon. Bought beer, snacks & raw chicken for the Crocs at Tarcoles. What a show they put on chowing down on that raw pollo. Rental van back and forth to LOS Sueños Fri & Sat to fish. 1 hour from Castillo to Gate 16 to wait for my return flight. Needless to say, the airport was not busy. Flight back to IAH Was on time, three hour lay over so I was able to hang out at the United club for the first time ever. I get two passes a year with their visa card but I'm never able to use them because of such tight connections. Very nice in here, soup salad soft drinks fruits etc. Etc. Very relaxing. Flight back home to LFT.

HOTEL / CONDO: Hotel Castillo was very nice. $111 USD for the all inclusive single room, #12 (3rd floor) before we went to JACO & The Captains Room (2nd floor) on the return trip. The food there was excellent. None of us had a bad meal.

VistaMar In Jaco was awesome. We had the upstairs penthouse 7 D the one on the north side of the building. So expensive but so much fun when everyone is in the same room! $1150/ night. We already have it reserved for next year. We will start looking for another less expensive condo after SuperBowl 2019.

FISHING: Fished with Captn Richard on The Sueltalo (Release it) on Fri & Sat. Great Captain & 2 deckhands. 1st day, we landed 2 YFT, 1 Pez Vela & 1 Blue Marlin. 2nd day we landed 4 Pez Vela and a 400# Blue Marlin. Not big numbers but the 2 blue Marlin made the trip worthwhile. 2 guys caught their first ever sailfish & the guy that landed the Blue ticked that off of his bucket list!!

FOOD: Hotel Castillo food was awesome. Eggs, fruit & toast for breakfast, lunch and dinner was the same awesome menu. I had the chicken kabobs, Caesar salad, shrimp tower & pork belly. At different meals of course. All were awesome!

They even allowed me to put some frozen YFT in their freezer to keep it frozen overnight. Very nice people there.

Thu pm is always Taco Bar night for us & it did not disappoint. A new expanded, kind of confusing menu up above the order window but the girl was very helpful and knowledgeable helping us as we stumbled through the new menu. That's the best meal I ever remember having there.

Fri pm. LOS Amigos. Excellent as well. I had the Thai curry chicken soup, very heavy, especially with the rice, but ohhh so good.

Sat pm. The Green Room. I had a rib off of one of the guys plate & it was awesome as well. There were enough ribs that he couldn't finish them.

Sun lunch. Pizza Bar. Again I didn't eat but the other 4 had custom pizzas & they looked great and there were no complaints.

Sun PM Ox Bar & Hotel Sports Bar. Across the main street from MASxMENOS. Typical bar food, greasy & not much flavor. They do however have the coldest beer in town.

CHICAS: Wed. Del Rey was mostly dead. A couple of spinners but it was definitely a sellers market. I went to the Pirate Club & it should be renamed the Heifer Club. Went by Taormina & it was dead. The old Zona II looked like it was locked up, the Havana room right next to it was dead with no chicas in there, Sky (the old New Fantasy I think) was useless with a lot of large chicas sitting around. SL had the usual suspects. 6-8 chicas, maybe 1 or 2 were doable. Six-pak Sammy is now sporting bolt-ONS and was looking pretty good. Did not pull on Wednesday due to travel fatigue and too much beer. I drank one every place I went to.

Thu am: FB friend Sharon came over. A bit older but incredible body and nice seno implants. Great attitude great service. She was supposed to come over WED pm But texted me an hour and a half after she was supposed to be there and said she could not go because somebody stole her purse. Blah blah blah blah blah.

Fri early pm: pulled a little tiny Nica name Carol. Very pretty, very tiny, Very uneventful session.

Fri pm: pulled tall Jennifer, short blond hair, very skinny. Excellent BBBJ skills.

Sat early on pulled a little tiny Tica with blond hair & braces named Cindy then later on a soso looking Nica named Patricia.

SUN:

9 am: Aroma Spa Rub-and-tug for 44 k.

Then afternoon pop with a tica spinner, Can't remember her name and didn't write it down. Another uneventful session.

Sunday night had to pull Jennifer again to experience the BBBJ once more.
