Thinking of heading to Panama next week and wondering if the $50 chica fee is still in effect at the Veneto. Appreciate anyone who is there now or recently.

Yep. I paid it today. There didn't appear to be anything stopping us from going straight upstairs, but the girls seem to accept it as a requirement and lead you to reception to pay the fee.

I arrived today and I went upstairs to Llegadas (Arrivals) and got a taxi into town for $15. Two turned me down at that price but it still only took 3 minutes to find one to say yes. I also downloaded the taxi zone fare map and the flag drop is $1 and then it is 35 cents for every zone you cross. So basically any taxista should be happy with $2 including tip for short rides. There is, in fact, an extra charge after 2200 until 0500, but it is a whopping 25 cents. It is 40 cents for an extra passenger and not two dollars like they tried to tell this German guy today. Somebody got on my case last year about being cheap with the taxistas, but if you look at the actual, official rates, I was way overgenerous.

I'm not Hector PF, but we are buddies. Anyway, you might want to try "Gruta Azul" if you find the stale puke and beer smell of Bocatorena too much for you. I like to consider myself a pro here in Panama but I have still not been to "Bombanera" which I keep hearing about from Colombian bartenders. It's in San Miguelito. San Miguelito is a shithole on the order of Colon. I'm trying to get some of my buddies to make a trip with me and when I do I will make a report.

So, recent development that started a month or so but really accelerated in the last few weeks is the flood of smoking hot Cubans. They are everywhere, they are smoking hot, and they are "young and fresh" I. E. They don't have the hardened pro look. I sat with three of them last night at Veneto. Apparently they have figured some loophole where they can get into Ecuador from Cuba (due to Correa's friendship with the Castros) and then from Ecuador they can make it to PTY.

I haven't been this excited to be a monger in many, many years.

Spent 6 days and 5 nights in Panama City recently. Stayed all nights at the Veneto.

My love for cheap / hot pussy and cheap / cold beer is too strong to keep me away. I went every day. But in my case I could have thrashed 90% of the guys in there in a fight. (one on one of course, I would have got murdered if I was jumped).

This is the hidden gem of Panama and I almost do not want to talk too much about it. My buddy Biff Dangler (a Panama expert who is on the forum) took me to this place on my first night. The only reason I am going to write more is because I do not think many gringos will feel safe here.

The bar is near Casco Viejo and is next door to La Mayor. You walk in the saloon like doors and instantly smell feet and puke. All you see if local Pana men pounding beers and leaning against walls. They do not look to happy to see unfamiliar faces. The music is bumping and you wonder what the fuck you are doing here.

Beer is $1.25 here. If your huevos are big enough go. If you are timid or look like a big pussy, don't go. A lot of locals won't even go.

Please stop this nonsense about Boca being dangerous and / or scary. Every guy who "discovers" the place posts the same thing. If it's safe for my blonde / blue skinny old gringo ass it's safe for anyone. The street and sidewalk are busy with customers, taxis and street vendors all the time. Inside, if a Panamanian is looking at you sideways you're definitely looking at them wrong. They ignore me 100% and I ignore them. You should be looking at the girls, not the guys, in any case. Yes, there are occasional fights among Panamanian guys so keep your eyes open but I've seen as many fights in expensive Chicago dance clubs among the 'roid range idiots.

What if you book a room for 2? Couldn't this be a way around the chica fee from the hotel?

Well with most hotels the policy is you'd have to register one woman as your novia or guest and she would be the only one allowed up to the room with you for the duration of your stay.

There was some talk about the $50 charge when it started about a week ago, and it is in the "General Info" thread for Panama. (The top thread in the Panama forum.) Yes, it is a chica fee. There are some ways around it, like bringing the chica up before or after the security person is by the elevator, which is maybe 9 pm to 3 am.

Interestingly, one of the chicas told me that she had to pay $15 per night to the Veneto, in order to work the casino floor area.

I know you referred to a proper hotel, but there are lots of short term apartments available to rent in the area that would work great. If it had a spare room, one could lock their things in it. With the hotels getting even stricter in Panama, I see this as a great option for many looking to cut the chica fee out.

Any apartment recommendations? I've noticed places like Panama Studio Apartments for around 60/ night but never inquired and wondered if they allow guests. I've really enjoyed staying at the Veneto but their ever-changing chica policy can really put a damper on an otherwise fun trip.

So on the sneaking past this part: if the chica is dressed like a hooker they stop you. If the chica is dressed like a normal person they don't stop you even late at night. After hooking the Panamanian in for full day hang outs and fucking, I would routinely go up and down with her as we picked more destinations to do things at. The security guy just completely ignored us. I think he's told not to fuck with normal guest activity. Just the mongering and he's careful about it.

BTW, he speaks no English, and I think he's embarrassed about it. Otherwise he seems like a nice guy just doing his job.

It's going to become even more hardcore after the canal in Nicaragua opens up, and the economy in Panama takes a hit. I spoke to a friend who has mongered for many more years than me. In his own words, Panama City is about as insane as going to Thailand. He might be exaggerating.

Unless I can confirm another proper hotel (room service, room safe) that is chica friendly, I think I will book the Veneto in February for a week.
