Was in a store in a Mall and the total was 1,390.

I gave the sales girl a 1,000, a 100 5 x50 and 2 x20 or in other words the exact amount.

She counted it. Then again, then 3 times. Counted very slowly.

Out comes the calculator, she adds it 1000+100+50+50+50+50+50+20+20. About 5 seconds between key presses.

Looks at the displayed total.

Adds it again.

Counts it again.

Adds it a third time, looks at the total, subtracts 1390 from the total. Looks totally confused.

Finally the half watt light bulb turns on, "I received exact amount, Po".

Took about 5 minutes in total to arrive at that conclusion.

Depends a wide range of factors including girl, bar, how drunk you are, where you are, which city, which bar et see etc.

He may not be an idiot at all. He was planning on spending rest of his life in Philippines and probably sent all his life's savings to this girl for building a house.

Right now he maybe sweet talking to her to find out where all the money went. If he presses charges and the girl goes to jail there is no way he can hopefully get the money back. Obviously the girl has withdrawn the money and hiding it somewhere. There is no way she spent it all. It is possible she cooked up a plot to steal the money with the help of somebody.
