As I said, I don't have a lot of know how about red light location in batam but the info that you give and I quoted is wrong.
Batam does not operate on Islamic Law, only Aceh is operating under islamic law, the rest is operating on national law.
Although Prostitution is illegal in Indonesia, it is actually very rampant with Jakarta and Surabaya as the two main location.
Also most of the law is targeting the girl and pimp not the user or the service.
There are a lot of safe location to get service in batam.

You just need to find a location that is backed by the police.

Just look for big massage location and KTV.

Yes I totally agree with Black Page, prostitution anywhere in Batam could land you in a lot of trouble, as you probably know around 95% of people there follow Islam, penalties can be quite harsh (unless you get away by bribing the local police). I suggest you try Thailand or Philippines instead, where you will not have to keep looking over your shoulder.

I think prostitution is prohibited non only there but in all Batam and Indonesia. The Islamic Law is quite serious and severe about that. I would not recommend to risk to be found involved in such affairs, because sanctions may be hard.

i think you have a wrong idea of batam. you will be totally misplaced, if you travel there with such a wrong pre-image in your mind.

Would suggest that you try a service apartment. Normally no questions asked and one has full freedom. Just google for service apartments in Batam.

2) Which lower end budget hotel has a flat screen and dvd player?

3) Is ROMANCE hotel any good? Komplek Ruko Dian Center Blok B No. 9-11 (bela; ang DC Mall) , Batam.

Agoda has no pictures, yet price seems attractive. So must be crap? 1st choice ROSE seems all booked up.

4) Is a BATAM visa a single entry deal, ie if I hop back to Singapore, I need another one to go back the next day?

And is their border control really passing fake USD's back in change. I bring my own $10 notes.

If you expect to find a place like Geylang or Orchard or Clark Quay, you are wrong. You will be terribly disappointed.
