I arrived here late on Saturday night. My hotel screwed me and sent me to another hotel far away from where I wanted to be. Today is Sunday and they had that huge reggae party going on. I didn't partake though. Tomorrow is my last day in this city, so I'll try to visit Paraiso.

Paraiso had a lot of cute young girls and is open until 10pm. Paid either R$50 or R$60 per girl and R$20 for the room. Because I found this place, I never made it out to locomotiva. Maybe next time. Also on Sunday afternoons, the Açai cafe on the street facing the river around cathedral de sé has a really packed reggae event that starts around 4pm. Don't know the cover, but cans of beer are R$1.50. I can see spending more time in Belém. Thanks to the board for reporting on these places.

Yeah Locomotiva is almost a place to live (hehe) but you have to factor in taxi fares if staying in town. It's maybe worth mentioning that it is not that far from the airport. You can easily session there if you have a wait between changing planes, or just drop in for an hour or two on the way to the airport or on the way into town, as I have.

    2012

an update on belem hardly seems necessary as very little seems to have changed, even prices. if you are comfortable trolling the narrow streets of comercio / campina after dark, there is always the odd 'new' one to be had (eg just now, boîte*nefertiti, on rua general gurjão. 100yds off vargas / praça the republica, and situated between 1st de março and padre prudençia, open from 6pm saturday).

two places that i think someone was maybe trying to describe are at rua gaspar viana 196, about 200 yards in from vargas, ver-o-peso side. think boulevard without quite so much fish sewage smell. one or two hot strippers, so a good free option if you want that. not many working girls to the large number of men. saw a hot young loira branca i'd banged the previous afternoon at paraiso but didn't fancy doing her again that late in the day.

but the staples of altas horas, paraiso and locomotiva provide enough real cuties mixed in with uglies to satisfy a non- prime mongering destination. i used to think of locomotiva as heaven till i accepted i could get the same quality of girls (often the same girls) at paraiso at less than half the price. rooms aren't quite so upmarket in paraisp but quite acceptable. on the other hand, altas horas has a better sound system and better rock videos. since both places had a refit, paraiso seems to be doing a live strip show more often (and charging rs5 entrance). like the old boulevard, a little free daty as part of the show if you are lucky and willing. altas horas has what must be the cleverest international wc signs to differentiate between male and female toilets: the men's one is an animated colour neon sign of a man [CodeWord112]. a woman can't [CodeWord111] in that position hence international clarity! locomotiva has an upmarket feel to it and there's a big choice of rooms once you select a girl (look at the price list, no need to pay more than rs20. if you don't insist on what type of room, she will just choose a more expensive one. the standard price for the nice girl is still rs100. when she asks for twice or three times that just laugh as it's part of the game. you *never* need to pay more than rs100. you do not even need to negotiate. if you go on the way to or from the airport, the taxi is only rs15 - about half what it is from downtown.

i think the most useful additions might possibly be non-mongering tips. eg there's not many lavandarias in belem. find a good modern one at rua arcipreste manoel teodoro 685. few mins walk from the hilton. wash & dry, rs7 / kilo.

also hotels. unless you are adamant about taking working girls back to your hotel, the price of a basic, bare, dingy, uninviting hotel room can be the same as something quite luxurious with lots of comforts and a nice place to hang out. i've stayed in about half a dozen or so and the rat-holes on vargas or in comercio are not, imo, worth the money. *

finally, i seem to have rescued one or two tourists who can't find places to eat that are open, or are afraid to eat at the market stalls, and who don't want to pay high prices. a place that is often open when other places are closed, and is quite newbie friendly, is a restaurant at the top of 28 september, a few yards from vargas.

    hope all this helps.

    Altars Horas

Just a quick note as I think someone maybe said this place had closed. It hasn't (or at least it's open now).

The entrance has changed slightly and is even more discreet and they've added a turnstile but it's in the same place, hours etc. See my earlier posts.

    Regards.

Hot and Sexy, do you have any address? Is it located in of the shopping streets?

It's a shame that old Boulevard / Barroco closed down. Did you notice if Altas Horas is still working (Travessa 7 de Setembro. 324, close to Praça the Bandeira)?

BTW, Paraiso street no is 105.
Thanks Sperto! Hot Sexy is located either along Rua 15 de November, I think (or Av. Castilino Franca). It was last or 2nd from last street before you get to the stairs (on Av. Pres Vargas) that lead to main street on the docks. One of those real narrow streets that look ominous and real scary at night. There are about 2 or 3 other similar low-end, but smaller clubs located in the approximate area. Hot Sexy may have been there before and has just renamed itself.

Now that Club Paraiso is there, can't say I miss Boulevard 'B'. As for Altas Horas, I don't remember where this club was, sorry can't comment.

    Belem, November 2010. Nice suprise

In late November 2010, on my way to Fortaleza, I had a few days stopover in Belem on some personal matters, but I was able to check out a few venues for a general report on centro in Belem. Luckily, I got there the day after Belem had experienced some extreme raining / flooding, were some areas of the city were underwater. I forget how much it can rain there.

Hotel Grão Pará, Centro (Av. Presidente Vargas, 718, Tel:+55 (91) 3321-2121)
From the airport, I walked outside to take a bus to centro and the Hotel Grão Pará, (located next to the Hotel Hilton and across from Praca Republica, on Av. Pres. Vargas). At R$75 / day, the Hotel Grão Pará, is nice hotel to stay in, but is NOT a GF hotel anymore! But not to worry, just around the corner 1-block behind Hotel Grão Pará, is a couple of decent Motels for R$15-17 for 1- 2hrs.

    Other Hotels
Icamiaba Hotel, Rua O de Aleida. 476. Centro (about 4 blocks from the Hotel Grão Pará, just off Av. Pres. Vargas), GF Hotel, ph. 55) 91-3230-1150/3223-3341/3324-7700. Email:icamiabahotel@hotmail.com (R$70-85)

Thursday night I went to the Apororoca Club (R$15 by taxi, R$10 by moto taxi), decent enough club, fairly large and lots of security staff. This was Baile the saudade (slow dance forro) night, and despite a somewhat rough looking crowd, there were one or two doable ladies in the mix. Definite possible hook-ups with local girls, if you can navigate your way past possible jealous boyfriends or other interested parties / brasilieros. Didn't get a chance to see the action on other nights, but it's a pretty popular club, so I would imagine it gets pretty crowded on Sexta (Fri.) and Sabado (Sat.), which are the more popular nights. Entrada is R$10, beer is R$3, garrafa of beer is R$5 and a Smirnof Ice is R$5. I didn't get the opportunity (nor did I take the chance) to hit on any girls there.

    Apororoca Club:
. Quinta Baile the saudade (Slow dance forro w / some techo)

    . Sexta: Pagodge.

    . Sabado: Techno Braga.

    . Domingo: Tudo Mix.

Grabbed a R$10 moto taxi back to centro (about 2:30am) and walked around to check-out any action around Praca Republica. Bar do Parque, had the usual riff-raff of GDPs, with no gems to pick from and the nearby park area had no SWs that I could see. This was also true of Fri, Sat and Sun night. As with other cities this trip (Manaus, Fortaleza, Rio), there seem to be a big lack of SWs. I guess the Prefeituras are cleaning house.

Club Paraiso (Rua Senhor Manoeul Barata, Centro)
One of the big surprises was Club Paraiso (orange owning out front on Rua Senhor Manoeul Barata towards the end closest to the harbor / docks). Free Entrada and most drinks were R$5. Programa most girls R$50 / hr with decent room w / showers & towels on site. Had some really good looking semi-pros (decent number of 7's. 8's for jungle standards), with 35+ women on site, on Thursday thu Saturday (6pm. 10pm) when I was there.

First time there, I managed to get a very nice anal for R$40 with R$10 tip, room R$15 / hr, from a MILF indio type chick (decent 6, no stunner, but decent body, great attitude and performance). Another time I took a nice semi-pro morena (decent 7) with a great ass, R$50 for 1hr. Good, but not a great performance. Sessioned with one other garota from Club Paraiso, a black-indo chick (decent 7), for R$50 / hr.

I really liked this place and spent good deal of time here and overall I found this place to be a great hangout with lots of nice / decent looking semi-pro and pro girls. It opens from 12 Noon till 10pm weekdays (or until empty) and till 1am / 2am on weekends. I was told Club Boulevard 'B' (used to be across from the docks), closed down about 6 months prior and Club Paraiso opened about 1-1/2 year ago and is the main place to go in centro.

    Hot Sexy (Centro)
Hot Sexy and couple of others sex clubs (in the area), which are located in the slightly rougher part of centro, can be found 2nd from last street, before docks and about 3 to 4 blocks in. They felt safe enough with taxis coming and going and decent set of 6's. 7's by jungle standards. Free Entrada, all to most drinks R$3-5, programa R$20-50 depending your needs / girl, room R$10-15 / hr. Since the rooms here were a little scary and they wanted R$15 / hr for the room, I decided on take-out with a cute slim indo chick with big floppy tits for R$50 (ate goza) and paid R$17/2hrs at the motel behind tHotel Grão Pará.

Hachie (Docas / by the stairs at the end of Av. Pres. Vargas, w / red neon sign. Gay club, by the docks) Friday night, doorman said gay, but also said they had lots of very nice garotas inside. I didn't verify this and did not go in, especially since they wanted R$20 entrada. Saturday night, was suppose to be good, according to doorman, but when I came back Saturday night, to verify the type of girls going into the club, I did not see any crowds or people entering the club. So I cannot say if this is a club worthy of trying out. My guess is NO!

    Estação das Docas and Ver-o-peso
In past years regarding Estação das Docas and the odd GDPs that once were found there, I didn't see any thing that looked like it would possibly be any GDP action. Very family oriented area with lots of good restaurants to eat at. If you're like me and prefer the cheaper options, try the lanchonettes at Ver-o-peso, just down the street from Estação das Docas area. With some luck and charm you may even score the odd local girls working in the area.

Sorry, I didn't get a chance to try any of the other clubs, like Locomotive (mainly because I hate paying these huge taxi fares to get there and back. And too many pros for me at these type of clubs). Besides, with Club Paraiso (in centro) and 35+ women on site, there wasn't really a need to venture out of centro to some of those over priced clubs.

    Summary
Overall this trip, I found the girls in Belem (for the few days stop over that I was there), to be nicer looking than the girls in Manaus. Maybe due to the fact, I didn't find as many nice semi-pros in Manaus as in previous years and the semi-pros and to some degree the pros in Belem, seemed sweeter and easier going IMHO. I really enjoyed Belem, this trip.

Funny. I've been in all those places except Aracaju and I found them thousand times more pleasant than here.

In Boa Vista, Palmas and Teresina it is still possible (or was) to take a walk without some assholes bothering you all the time.

Here number of bums is amazing. Like yesterday. There were 2 kids begging for money in the entrance of a nice restaurant. What's that all about? If I were the owner I'd kick their ass and send them running. Not here,,,, Well, anyone may understand that I wouldn't go to a place that lets people beg for money in the entrance, and I mean right at the door.

This place is so poor and violent that Rio and Sao Paulo are starting to look like paradises.

What about the traffic? Well I won't even go there.

Some capitals only one visit and others up to 36 visits. Some just a quick visit for a few days and others monthly stays.
