I also found women in Quito were very "matter of fact" and not too friendly. Also women in GYE and everywhere else I went in ECU were the same way. They seem slightly friendlier in Manabi. There is also a helper on buses collecting money and yelling destinations. He stands in the stairwell. And the front doors of the bus never close.
