We saw the start of this with the Trump trade taxes, and this showed us where the weakness is. Companies have been working the short time returns so hard that they have moved to just in time deliveries from suppliers, and are sourcing huge percentages of critical parts from single suppliers in countries that are at risk for all kinds of issues (aka China). So when the shit hit the fan, guess what happens next in the Rube Goldberg machine that is the stock market? Companies have lost sight of long term health (you know, even a stool needs three legs to be stable) and stability, which is borne out by all the short term microsecond computer trading, which has exacerbated the market volatility.

You want a real eye opener? The current economy, at least in the US, is driven by the consumers. Now look at the wealth / income distribution. It won't be too long before the majority of the population is unable to afford the basic necessities. Ford had the right idea with his new automobile. He paid his workers many times the going labor rate so that they could all afford to buy the product they were making for him.

I haven't read anything about Bat Flu and heat. Hope you're right. The western media is killing my stocks with their fear mongering but I feel the number of cases is grossly under reported. I doubt Thailand has many testing kits outside of Bangkok. Even California is woefully short of testing kits. Also some sick people aren't getting medical help due to fear of being isolated by friends and family.

Watching Bangkok news last night. 35 year old in Bangkok is the first Thailand death due to the coronavirus. My Thai isn't good enough to know if he had any pre existing conditions.

I read that he already had Dengue fever. I think it was on the BBC or CNN website.

I read that it is not heat that will kill the virus. It has something to do with the immune system being more efficient when body temperature is higher.

Most virus thrive in cold weather. This is not to say cold virus does not infect people in hot countries. There are several factors why we get flu vaccine in the fall to protect us in winter. Hot weather makes us feel good and immunity is higher. Phlegm does not stay in your lungs in hot weather. They liquify and comes out not doing any damage to lungs.

But this corona virus is hard to figure out. Causes lots of damage to older people with underlying conditions. Hardly ever does serious damage to kids.

We hope our sexual exercise and activity increases our immunity to this virus.

The five day water only fast is actually the best way to start a real, ketosis inducing intermittent fasting protocol. I've experienced the health benefits and bright clarity of mind doing the fast over two months, and it was outstanding.

A 4-5 day fast (water only) resets the immune system (see Valter Longo et al UCLA and lots of peer reviewed work). Literally renews immune system with brand new undamaged cells. Actually you're doing the scare mongering job yourself. There's no "testing kit".

The test is a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rt-pcr). To simplify, a sample is taken in a sterile receptacle (cotton swab, spit in the jar, whatever) and chemicals are applied to (a) turn any RNA (single strand) from a virus present into DNA (the Watson-Crick double helix) and (b) multiplying the results hugely.

This is then analysed in a genetic sequencing machine (96 sample, 1 hour turnaround time was around $20,000 last time I checked and it is quite likely the same bit of kit which does your teerak's HIV test. So widely available in hospitals, clinics and universities, even in Thailand, although I cannot vouch for backwards regimes like California) which looks for a specific block of genetic code believed to be unique to the virus.

Or maybe California has run out of cotton swabs, test tubes and jars?

Was out at Chatuchak market, both last Saturday and this Saturday. Still hot, but the crowds are really DOWN. Now, mostly foreigners, very few Thais. Certainly bad news for the businesses there, but does make it a lot EASIER to get around.

If taking the Metro, don't do like all the newbies and get off at Chatuchak Park stop. Today, watched most get off at the Chatuchak Park stop. Wait until the next stop, Kamphaeng Phet. That lets you off basically inside the market, at the edge by section 26, the handicrafts section. Walk outside the metro entrance, and you're inside the market. Makes it easy for me to find my "start point", the Viva Bar26. Great place for a drink, both coming and going. Been stopping there for 20+ years. It's my reference point for my inertial navigation to other shops I know. I've learned to get business cards from the shops I buy from so that, in the future, easier to find, rather than having to do a grid search of the old days.

I am really worried about a future Bangkok with almost no freelancers on street. FLs are usually dirt cheap due to a variety of reasons and their, almost, complete disappearance, from asok to nana is an extreme concern.

The takeouts from massage shops become expensive if one orders two a day. Ditto with bar girls. Freelancers used to be pretty good "fillers" and sometimes offered only chance to snag an amateur.

During my recent visit, the street scene was totally dead in Bangkok. Some of it could be attributed to corona and dearth of tourists, some to increased LE activity in Bangkok and Pattaya that I witnessed personally.

I wonder if there are any alternatives that can fill the void.
