This apartment has only one weakness. The wifi is not very reliable. I found the 3G on phone with personal hotspot worked better.

Syzygies, can you tell me if both rooms have king beds? I'm always looking for a 2 bedroom suite with a big bed in each bedroom. They are very hard to find but are perfect accomodations for me and a wingman that travel together.

Posts: 12856Selected a basic 3K room at Asoke Residence (Grand Mercure Hotel) and got a shock entering the room. Its a massive apartment with 2 bathrooms and several other rooms. Seems I accidentally got upgraded to Executive Suite. I could get lost in here at night.

I visited theLodge for old times sake (I was an irregular regular for 15 years.
At the monument it has an identity crisis being "Ocean Bangkok," " (still) Livingstone's Lodge" and "Ocean Livingstone's."
It is different. The stark white paint has changed the whole character of the place. Gone is the dark 'meeting room and the cafe around the pool.
The rooms are decidedly budget in price. At the moment and it is by no means busy.
Will it be a success? 1.
Fifteen years ago Soi 33 was up-market but overtime it has declined (see Stickman's letters) and is just another scruffy sub-ski.
PS if you do book don't beta room on the street side. Whole families live under the windows and they wake early.

A few thoughts on Citrus Hotel. Decided to try as Admiral Premier was booked out.
It a bit deep in a minor Soi, maybe 300 metres, but has a courtesy tuk tuk. Trys to have a very modern look. Bathroom had a shower no bath I think. Bed was very soft (nice for me). Wifi okay.
Weaknesses were the led lighting in the room meant it was rather dark. I needed extra hand held light to see the aircon control temperature. Desk was poorly lit. Hard to see my computer keyboard to work. Construction going on nearby so a bit noisy in daytime. Bed had special reading lights, but desk had very poor lighting indeed.
Breakfast was a little substandard. Could order your eggs cooked. However, only two types of fruit, like pineapple and watermelon. This is really poor. Coffee a bit weak. Pastries seemed to be hand made by the chef and had his jars of spreads to add to them. Too sweet and no real flavour. No cinnamon rolls, brownies, swiss roll, Danish etc. Most of the cooked food was far too tastless for me. Fried rice too boring, fried noodles too boring etc.
I would rather cook rolled oats in my room (if had a kitchenette) and make my own coffee.
Overall an okay cheap Hotel if you don't need reasonable lighting to use the desk. Skip their breakfast, unless you are happy with extreme basic.
If you don't pay much, you don't get much. It probably is good value for money. I would prefer to be at Admiral Premier with kitchenette.

Posts: 61Majestic Suites vs. Ibis Nana
I will be in Bangkok for a week in January.
I have stayed at the Majestic Suites before and am generally happy with them. I have never stayed at the Ibis.
The rates are similar. Any thoughts or opinions which would be a better bet?
Thanks,

I've read good reviews on this hotel, can someone tell me of the exact location? Is this on the corner of soi 4 and sukumvit? I haven't been to BKK in 2 years, and can't tell where this would be from the map

Go south towards Sukhumvit Road, turn left and follow Sukhumvit Road to the East: second street on your left hand is Soi 7/1 with the (in) famous Eden Club and Dr. BJ establishments.
Or take the BTS (Skytrain) one stop to the East and get out at Asoke where you will find Soi Cowboy with its beerbars and agogo-clubs.
And everywhere in that area are massage-shops.

Posts: 174Bel-Air Princess. 16 Sukhumvit Road Soi 5,
On the advice of a friend I have just booked myself in here for five nights while attending a conference in Bangkok. (He says he always stays there). I shall probably have quite full days so what are the very local attractions (and I don't mean restaurants). Full reports to follow!

I continue to support this hotel for convenience of location. The great thing is that it only just off the highway from Swampy and thus better than any hotels down Skvt.
Annies (of which I am no longer a fan) is across the road and Soi Nana but a (long) stones throw as is the Skytrain and access to all BKK / night
I am getting rates of US$85 inc taxes, etc and breakfast for king size doubles using hotel booking sites.
GFE. They cal from the eek if you have a 'visitor. '
Breakfast is great.
OK. Bits of the hotel are tired. But so are bits of the Oriental!
