View Full Version : Phuket Reports
Hello everyone in Phuket
My prayers are with you, I realise things must be awful there but I hope you can help.
I usually stay in the Patong Bay Garden Hotel, it's right on the beachfront just up from Bangla, they must have got it bad, I've tried contacting the hotel but can't get through.I appreciate they and you have more important things to do but can you tell me how they are, as well as the massage/manicure girls and the little cafe on the beach just beside the hotel. They are all very nice people and I would hate to think anything happened to them.
Beside the hotel just down from Boots pharmacy there is a small arcade, a lovely woman called Na runs an internet shop and hair salon, last week she was looking after two little neices about 4 and 2 years old, Christ alone knows what they would do if 20 feet of water came crashing in. Please can someone find out if are they alright, when I was there the little one was sleeping in a bed in the back at 10am, I am horrified to think about it.
I understand everyone will want information like this but I would be very grateful if someone could help.
Thanks

from the bbc...
at least 257 people died and 1,000 were injured after the massive sea surges caused by an earthquake smashed into thailand's western coast.
the worst hit areas were on beaches near phuket, with reports of divers and sunbathers being swept out to sea.
hotels were under water after 5m-10m (16 to 33 feet) waves hit the coast and there were reports of tourist bungalows being carried away by the water.
tourists spoke of their disbelief at the scale and speed of the disaster.
"the beach is a disaster now with all of the local restaurants and beach chairs businesses totally destroyed," one reader in phuket told the bbc news website.
one hotel worker in phuket said the tide of water flooded the hotel lobby and pulled furniture onto the street.
"as i was standing there, a car actually floated into the lobby and overturned because the current was so strong," boree carlsson told reuters news agency.
thai officials said the toll was expected to rise because scores of people were still missing.
there were particular fears for divers, since the tidal wave hit when hundreds of tourists and instructors were in the water for a boxing day dive.
up to 80 divers were reported to be trapped in the famous emerald cave, which divers can only reach by swimming underwater.
on the island of koh phi phi, made famous as the location for the 2000 film "the beach", officials spoke of widespread damage and islanders and tourists being airlifted to safety.
one report from the island said 200 bungalows had been swept out the sea.
tourism is one of thailand's most important industries, with hundreds of thousands of western and asian tourists drawn to its beaches each year.
in neighbouring malaysia, at least 20 people were reported killed after the tidal waves hit. most of the dead were in the holiday resort of penang.

If you like to see some pics of the desaster area on Phuket you have to go to
http://www.************.com/.
There is a message board section. When you get in that go to its general thread. The photos are there.
A direct link doesn't work, sorry.
Thanks for the link, Traveler. I passed it on to a friend of mine who, while not a member of this board, traveled in the area a lot and was grateful for the information. Hope you guys are keeping safe over there.
Magic

editor's note: posting of this report was delayed pending revisions to correctly spell the words "you", "are" and "because". to avoid delays in future reports, please refrain from using "u" instead of "you", "r" instead or "are", "em" instead of "them", and "cuz" instead of "because", etc. thanks!
As the death toll approaches 30K, it is clear that this was avoidable.
The ocean bouy warning system was not able to protect Phuket, because in Thailand only the other shore is protected for Bangkok and Pattaya.
USGS reports frantically alerting countries effected, but few if any had any type of national alert system.
Possibly with this well known issue, Phuket will be protected in the future.
Killer tsunami takes high toll in Thailand
By John Hail
UNITED PRESS INTERNATIONAL
Bangkok, Thailand, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Frantic search and rescue operations were mounted Monday for thousands of foreign tourists and Thai coastal residents missing or cut off after massive tsunami waves hit the region.
Thai officials said 451 people were confirmed to have been killed after the waves crashed over some of the country's most popular beach resorts Sunday, with at least 2,000 injured and nearly 400 missing and feared drowned.
They said they expected the death toll to rise further as rescue teams reach several outlying islands, including Kho Phi Phi, where about 200 scuba divers and other foreign tourists were among the missing.
The idyllic island, which was used as a backdrop for the 2000 film, "The Beach," starring Leonardo DiCaprio, was devastated by the tidal waves, with scores of divers swept away.
Among those killed was Thai King Bhumipol's American-born grandson, Bhumi, 21, who was reported to have been out on a jet ski off the southern resort of Khao Lak in Phang-nga province when the killer tsunami hit Sunday morning.
Thailand's world-renowned beach resorts at Phuket were also hit hard by the tidal waves, which crashed into beach-front bungalows and bars and sent fishing boats smashing into hotels and shop houses.
"The beach front is ruined and will take months and months to get back to its former self," Swiss national Shankar Biman told United Press International on Phuket island. "I have not seen such devastation since I experienced ruins left after World War II in northern Italy. And it is the first time I have seen the results of unleashed natural forces.
"The tourists have packed their bags and left," Biman said. "Many thousands of people have lost their livelihood, luckier than the many who lost their lives," he said.
Phuket's governor said the bodies of more than 35 foreign tourists had been recovered from the island's beaches.
Two trawlers were reported missing off the coast of Ranong province, and dozens of fishing boats were also swamped by the tsunami.
The waves hit at the height of the tourist season, when thousands of Western tourists and locals were enjoying their Christmas holidays.
Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who flew to Phuket Sunday night to take charge personally of rescue and relief operations, said the evacuation of tourist beaches was proceeding smoothly.
"Don't panic," he said. "Now, there is no problem in the inner city (of Phuket). People have already been evacuated from risk-prone areas. We will try to give them comforts and accommodations as much as we can."
He said ambassadors and other officials from 25 countries were going to Phuket to keep track of their nationals who have been killed, injured or are missing since the killer waves struck the area.
Public Health Minister Sudarat Keyuraphun said medical personnel were being rushed to Phuket's Patong Hospital, which was swamped with hundreds of people injured by the waves.
Thousands of Thai and foreign relatives of the victims waited at the hospital and other points on the island for news of their loved ones.
As someone who went through the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake and tsunami in Alaska, my hopes and prayers are with each of you. If you have any suggestions for active relief agencies that seem to be making a difference, please post contact info so we can make donations.
Very sad, dunno what to say.
Lets pray for the death toll stop climbing.

What I dont get is: there were a couple of hours between the quake and the tsunami hitting Phuket, right? And it clearly was going to hit, this was well known for those 2 hours. Lots of people knew a wall of water was moving across the ocean toward Thailand, and Indonesia just got slammed by it. There's no warning sytem on Phuket, but why werent the hotel owners on the beach alerted? And local police? There was something like a 2 hour window to get the word out. Its not like Phuket is an Indian fishing village, its a major international resort island with plenty of expensive hotels with phones and internet access right on the beach. Why werent there hotel waiters, owners, police, anyone and everyone running around on the beach screaming their heads off? If they werent notified, why not? The information was out there, why werent they called? Why werent police trucks going nuts on the beach, warning people? This is a real question, not a rhetorical one, if anyone out there knows how it went down on Phuket please let me (us) know. To me, even without an official warning system, what happened could have been prevented, a lot of lives could have been saved -unless theres something I'm missing here. Like a lot of other people here, I'm a frequent visitor to Thailand and am really disturbed about what happened.
a friend was able to make it out in one piece. but here is his story. gives us all a reason to be thankful.
***************
where to start? well, i'm alive, that's a start. quite an interesting day, to say the least. i woke up about 7:30, showered and came down to the open air lobby for a cup of coffee and to decide what to do for the day. since i'm on vacation, i've been deciding things on a whim, and yesterday was no different. while drinking my coffee sue, the owner's girlfriend, came over and we started chatting about my plans. i spent the previous day on railey beach, so i figured to head to phi phi. this is at 8:20. she said there are two ferries, leaving at 8:30 and 10:30. hurry, she said, and i can get you on the 8:30. so i rushed to pack and get on the bus to the ferry landing. no problem. stopped at railey beach to pick up a few more people, and then we motored on towards phi phi.
nearing the island, a few people on deck noticed a wall of white water further out to sea, like a wave breaking early. thinking nothing of it, we sat back down and waited to get there. wait is the key word. when we got to phi phi, there were several boats waiting just outside of the harbor, and no boats in the harbor...i mean nothing was there. this is when the information we were getting starts to get sketchy, and rumors are flying. first we are told the tide is too low, and the waves are pushing the boats too much.
soon after i hear this, i see a giant white wave breaking over phi phi, the second or final tidal wave to crash over the island. we arrived at about 11:00. the first wave hit at about 10:45, followed by two more, devasting the island, killing many. we were at the right place at the right time, within minutes of being overturned. the shelter of the island actually took the brunt of the force, sparing us. as we were sitting in front of phi phi, which we did for 6 hours, we started to get news. first, we saw boats floating by, speed boats overturned in the trees at phi phi, trees and rubish in the water, which got heavier and heavier as time wore on. a large ferry, similar to ours, pulled up next to us; it had left just after we did from ao nong. there were a few people aboard, and one of the crew came on, bleeding from a would to his chest, hysterical. another was carried on board, with scratches and cuts all over his body. they were missing the rest of the crew; the boat was tossed in the air by the wave we just missed.
oddly, the thais on our boat didn't seem too terribly concerned about this guy. i mean he has gashes all over his body, his feet are bleeding through his dirty bandages, and all they can do is lay him down. a german couple and i gave him first aid, cleaning his wounds and putting on new bandages. deep lacerations and puncture wounds all over his feet and ankles. by this time everyone fairly understands something has gone terribly wrong, but still, no announcement come from the boat, just rumors from one of the crew members. at no time did they make an announcement telling us what to do, or when we'll go. up until we left, we were still thinking we were going to phi phi.
rumors of a tidal wave, killing thousands, began to surface. another boat pulls along side us, loading a few more injured people for us to take to the mainland. finally, after 7 hours on the boat, we started back to ao nong, where we started. as we began to approach the mainland, the rubbish started to show in the water. kilometers from land, whole trees, bottles, trash, and boats...lots of longtail boats destroyed. pulling into krabi, not ao nong, was our first surprise, then the rumors started getting mixed with the facts, and we all realized how lucky we were. ao nong, hit by a wave 20 feet high, gone? railey beach, washed over, gone? 200 dead on phi phi, all but 2 hotels gone? hard to know what to beleive, what to do. do i leave, stay and help, where do i go?
i decided to head back to ao nong, as i heard the wave hit it hard, but most of the hotels are still open. i got a ride in one of the many ambulances gojng there, which was, i must say, a bit disconcerting. as i came into ao nong, there was complete mayhem. streets closed, police cars and ambulances everywhere, people milling around looking dazed. a guy came up and started filling us in. fifth largest earthqauke ever, massive tuisnami killing thousands. i walked down to the beach, and saw the damage. mud spilled fifty feet back from the headwall ( which saved many people), broken glass, felled trees, boats sitting on the street, sunken boats on the beach. ominously, there were a few search and rescue boats in the water, trolling, looking.
a guy i met said he was standing on the beach when it came. on a side note, i have met some of the most interesting people in the world in the last week; he was one of them.
"i beat cancer...i crashed my bike last night and broke my arm...sharks almost got me twice...and this wave tried to kill me. but not me, i'm not ready to go."
standing there, he saw, like everyone else on all the beaches, the water receeding dramatically. fish are flopping, boats are overturning. then, the thai girls selling foods and things on the beach start screaming run, run, run. a wall of foaming water was coming in, and people were running up to the safety of high ground. those in the water were swept out, then hurtled in, dashed and thrown. the wave broke on the head wall, but that just threw it up and out, as high as the street lights, up the main street. at railey, people saw the receeding water and started running for the mountain. many didn't make it. the stories i heard last night, of the close calls, the not as close calls, the near misses...and those with friends, family and loved ones who were missing are astounding.
one woman i met at dinner was diving at phi phi. this is interesting because one of the women on board our boat had a boyfriend diving at the same area, only early in the day. they were in the water, getting ready to submerge, when the captain of the boat started waving his arms, yelling at them to wait, something wasn't right. as they floated, she looked down and saw a wall of white water rush past her, under her feet and heading for phi phi, where it crashed up and over everything. anyone under water at the time...i haven't seen the woman yet whose boyfriend was diving, but reports of 40 divers missing doesn't sit well.
finally, i made my way to the hotel i had the night before, the one where they rushed to get me on the ferry to phi phi. i think this is where it really hit me that i was very lucky...timing is everything. the staff ran up and started hugging me, the owner kept poking me, asking if i was really ok. (unfortunately for him, as of this morning, his parents are missing.) you so lucky...you so lucky, they kept saying. apparently, they had heard that the boat i was on had been one of the boats to overturn. they thought i had taken a swim, and for those of you that know my swimming abilities, that didn't bode well. the boat that came up to us while we out in front of phi phi was the one that got hit, just behind us.
well, i guess we all have stories of near misses. this is mine. i hope to never have to tell you all about another.
the ambulances keep going by. i'm getting out of here. bangkok, here i come.

Apparently it was 1 hour, not 2.
Regarding the tsunami warning, this region has not seen any in the last hundred years at least. The warning systems are in place in the Pacific as it is more common there. I doubt anyone had forseen such a tragedy would occur. Hopefully something will come out of it (a warning system, that is.).
The following is the list from Los Angeles Times, where relief donations can be sent.

Troy Husum, a 28-year-old Canadian, was on holiday in Phuket, Thailand. He spoke of the devastation as the waves hit the town of Patong and how survivors are coping.
I felt the quake first at about 0915.
I went out on my balcony in the hotel where I was staying - it was a beautifully calm day - and talked to others on their balconies. The quake felt very slight so we thought little of it.
About 45 minutes later, I noticed that water had receded from Patong Bay. We'd never seen it before and we could hear people on the beach talking about it. You could even see fish flopping around on the beach, which was unusual.
I noticed small kids and tourists walking to where the water had receded, curious as to why the water had gone.
Then I saw it - I noticed people craning their necks and looking out on the horizon. You could see a wall of water about three or four stories high.
I felt like I was watching a movie, it was completely surreal.
It wasn't moving very quickly, it took between four and five minutes until I saw it hit and in that time slowly people started to realise what was happening.
Most disturbing was I saw people literally disappear when the water hit... people were literally swept away
People were saying 'Oh God, what is that?' I thought I was dreaming.
After a few seconds the wave hit and smashed against the beach.
It was incredible, it actually bent the trees, washed everything away - at least 1,000 beach umbrellas were swept along as all the water surged through.
There is a line of cars where people park by the beach and hundreds of bikes, I saw them all picked up like toys and moved along.
Most disturbing was I saw people literally disappear when the water hit.
I saw a lot running, but there were people snoozing on the beach, I saw small children hit. People were literally swept away.
A lot of injuries occurred from people being hit by debris from cars, from bikes.
Running for safety
I thought I should get some pictures because I was staying on the fourth floor of my hotel, but other people on the balconies said we had to get on the roof.
I grabbed my equipment and ran outside into the hall. People were screaming "Go! Go!" I ran up the stairs and saw the water coming.
It flowed up to the third floor, you could see it in the stairwell, some people were completely wet.
We watched the chaos from the roof. The water had already started to recede as we got there.
The hardest part for survivors was actually when water receded - the undercurrent sucked people back into the ocean.
Bodies
The most frightening part was not the wave - it was the panic that ensued.
There were car accidents, people were trying to escape as everyone was positive another wave was coming.
People - mainly local Thais - went up the roads to the mountain and slept up there for safety.
Within an hour I went back to the beach. I saw bodies. The rescue crews were panicking and there was not much control.
Bodies were pulled from the debris - most had clearly drowned. I also saw a number of fractures - one tourist had a very badly broken arm.
You could constantly hear helicopters - they flew up to about one kilometre out to sea to try to rescue people.
Last night most hotels allowed tourists to sleep for free in their lobbies or by the pool and there was still a lot of fear and misinformation about other waves.
Aftermath
This morning the cleanup started. All the foreigners are in disbelief, there are two or three feet of sand in all these devastated restaurants.
There are piles and piles of rubble deep inland - it looks like a bomb has gone off.
Some bars I went to the night before on the beach are completely gone,. All of the palm trees were flatted or removed. How is water capable of doing that?
They are carting out hundreds of cars and bikes and the streets are still covered with sand.
They really should have cordoned off the streets. There has been a little looting, some last night and today. I saw guys with televisions and computers.
There are people staggering around with injuries, I saw a girl with bandage on her head. Today there have also been sirens which have now died down.
They are still pulling people out of the debris. One was a small Thai girl - she must have been there all night but she was still alive.
My deepest sympathies for the all the victoms. There, but for the grace of god, it could have been me. Like many here I have been there a number of times. One can only image how many people (esp. Farangs) would have been sweep out to sea (from the beaches) if the Tsunami had came crashing in at 2 in the afternoon. Or how many would have drown in Patong Beach (Bangla Road) if the Tsunami had rolled in around mid-night.

I would like to add my condolances to the families of people who lost their lives in Phucket.
I also pray for the safety off the people i met when i was there earlier this year from the friendly hotel staff and the girls i met in the bars along bangla road and in particular one bar under the dragon disco.
I hope you are all safe.

What a mess. I hope the casualty list does not go up. I read somewhere that this type of tsonami only happens every 700 years. Does anybody know more about this?

I guess sometimes mother nature gets its own back. I read somewhere that the earthquake that triggered the tsunami was 1000 times more powerful than the earthquake that killed thousands in Iran.
I was in Phuket and Phi Phi in late October. Just praying now that the dive boat people who took us out are safe and well. In fact, just praying for everyone right now.
condolences to the people of thailand and all our forum friends affected. do hope you guys are safe. thais are known to be resilient and hopefully we can see them forging back next year ... they are freindly people and have given very god memories to us all who have spent time in this lovely country. perhaps we should also do our part by helping the economy by visiting the country again sometime sooner so that they can get back up to speed.

Reply to MacMac:
I read in the nation that the 4 Thai earthquake specialists were informed about the earthquake and they talked about the possibility of a Tsunami. They assumed that Indonesia would protect the Thai coast and that it was anyway not likely since a Tsunami hadn't occured in the last hundred years. But the most disturbing reason was that they were afraid to issue a warning during peak tourist season: they thought that they would get into deep trouble if it turned out to be warning without anything actually happening. That's where money and the power of the business oppress rational action.
A Thai friend told me recently that some years ago, a Thai minister was talking about the risk of Tsunamis hitting Thailand and he wanted a warning system set up. He was forced to shut up because his motion was considered as harmful for tourism.
Second thought: Many earthquake stations around the globe registered the earthquake but then whom should they inform about what? Should a guy of the USGS call the FBI or the president? Might he be able to talk to some assistant undersecretary after half a day to get this guy call the embassy in Thailand? Thailand doesn't have any special rescue or warning system that we have for example here in Germany. Here, we would hear sirenes, warnings over the radio and TV. But Thailand doesn't have anything comparable and Indonesia and Sri Lanka are in much worse condition any way.
I feel very sorry that often in life, something bad has to happen first before people recognize the need to act appropriately. I know that Thailand will be up and running again soon due to its tourism industry. But what will happen to the affected areas in Sri Lanka and Indonesia, to the poor people that have now lost even the few things they had?

I will be in BKK on business in March, and want to go to a nice resort first (bringing a girl from BKK with me, of course!). I am looking for the VERY best in snorkeling, sailing/kayaking/canoeing, restaurants (preferably buffet), etc. Bungalows or water cottages would be preferred; crowded beaches are to be avoided. Quality, not price, is the only consideration beyond the establishment not objecting to my bringing a Thai GF.
I am guessing that Samui is better than Phuket for this, given the terrible tsunamis. Is that true? What do people recommend for resorts?

I really hope all our monger brothers are all safe down there in Andaman. I am really worried about 2 of my hunting pals down there who I cannot make contact by fone calls anymore since the tsunami. I just hope they just had their mobiles and all their money swept away by the tides.
If anyone down there know a young man 29 years old, name Adriaan Vogelsang, nickname Adi, he called me from Patong on the night of 25 X'mas. He was hunting in Tiger disco that night. I did not hear from him since then.
And anyone knows another guy name Olaf Bildt, 32 years old. He nicknames himself Ugo to other friends. He was in Andaman somewhere with a Thai lady for X'mas. Lost contact since then. If anyone know and see any of them, please tell them to contact RCA somehow. Thank you.
Hi Adi and Ugo, if you guys are stranded without money and fone in hotel or hospital somewhere, and somehow see this forum post, please contact me somehow. I do not have your e-mails.
Great tact Trav Man, you're departing in March and will have plenty of time to plan your trip, now it doesn't feel right to talk about this, bruv.
For what it's worth, I take the opportunity to add my condoleances to those involved.

...
Producer,
you refer to a case that happened about 5yrs ago.
There had been an earthquake close to Papua New Guinea and the national meteorological department issued a warning about a possible tsunami. Later on there had been massive complaints of the national tourist department that such a warning would be harmful to tourism.
I also heard, that there were warnings this time but were downplayed by local radio stations. I guess now they regret their behaviour.

Jackson,
If there is a Board collection I will give another $ 100.00 to it if you start it up with details, please advise.
Hi Canada008,
I appreciate your offer, but I'm so totally occupied managing the Forum and with my charity here in Buenos Aires that I don't have any time to properly administer another organization.

Hello all who are in the area. My apologies if this gets printed twice the system seems to be acting up.
MY request of you all is this. Please help the Thai people. Stay and help them clean up and do what you can. Most of us reading this have the mean and decent health and great skills and we are able to help out. I sincerely wish I was there and I am considering travelling there to help out.
I have been to Phuket 2 times. I love Thailand and the Thai people I owe them. Today I contributed $ 500.00 Canadian personally to the Red Cross, my company will match and I hope my staff will match as well.
If you do choose to leave then leave everything of value behind, First Aid supplies, Soaps, footware, clothes etc, what is needed? I saw video of people fleeing with full suitcases. Lets help out the Thais and everyone else that needs it, I know they have been good to each and everyone of us and we can afford it thanks to our good fortune.
Even those lucky enough to survive have lost their entire businesses, cash inventories, staff, it is hard to imagine.
Lets not talk about what could have or how the Thai government could have, lets focus on helping the Thais in their time of need.
Lets use this board to bring good to others who are not us!
Jackson if you set up a fund I have another $ 100.00 Canadian if it can be well spent, surely someone there can lead. Do not go home. Call home tell them you are well then do everything you can to help our friends in Phuket and undoubtedly there are other areas in need.

My prayers and condolences for the people of Thailand. What a sad and horrific tragedy. The best times of my life have all been spent in Thailand. May Lord Buddha bless all those affected...Thai and farang, my heart goes out to you all.
Ragnar
my prayers go out to all who were affected by the tidal wave. i'm just devastated by the news of such a horrific event. be safe and god speed!

Hi,
Thanks for the interesting replies. Yeah, the idea that they COULD have gotten the word out to at least some people and didn't is just sickening. I can actually understand why people were hesitant to set up an elaborate and expensive warning system for something that might not happen for 100 years. But for Christ sake, there could have been an informal warning system. Just a few phone calls to hotel owners and the local police (yeah I know the police move really slowly, but anyway) could have saved hundreds of lives. .... anyway, thats what I wish could have happened. Not a call to the FBI, President, or whoever, but to the beach. It would have been absolutely free for NASA, whoever knew the tsunami was approaching, to keep a list of a few major beachfront hotel names and numbers, and police numbers, at all the resorts and towns in SE asia. I know its easy to look back and say 'I wish...' , but Christ, it really would have helped. Maybe its not a bad idea for scientists to compile that list now, so that if this happens again before a system is set up, at least they can TRY to let people on beaches know whats happening.
Sad, but interesting pictures

i will be in bkk on business in march, and want to go to a nice resort first (bringing a girl from bkk with me, of course!). i am looking for the very best in snorkeling, sailing/kayaking/canoeing, restaurants (preferably buffet), etc. bungalows or water cottages would be preferred; crowded beaches are to be avoided. quality, not price, is the only consideration beyond the establishment not objecting to my bringing a thai gf.
i am guessing that samui is better than phuket for this, given the terrible tsunamis. is that true? what do people recommend for resorts?
dunno about the rest of you guys, but i'm speechless.
Banana Disco at patong beach this week...
Well, not in bad situation as other places around...
Kojack,
Thanks for the pic. It brings back good memories, its present condition notwithstanding. I would head over there in the evenings and listen to the life band out front, while indulging in numerous vodka tonics. They had a hot singer I always wanted to pop. I think she was Japanese.
I think it likely that most of the Phuket working girls have or will head back north to pursue their avocation. I will be curious to know if anybody in BKK or Pattaya notices, in the future, an influx of girls from Phuket.
I'm on the west coast of the US and while in the lobby of a public building, I shared a short conversation with a very striking blonde. It happens that her brother works for NOAA and was on duty when the earthquake occurred. She said that they (NOAA) did attempt to pass word to various countries that a tsunami was likely, but since it occurred on a Sunday, most of their contacts were unavailable. There was no one in those offices to pick up the phone.
I can hardly imagine the sense of frustration that developed as phones rang unanswered and time passed until the first reports started filtering in about the devastation.
Note: NOAA == National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (part of the US Gov't)

Sex workers and tourists search for light in the darkness
AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE in Phuket
The island is sombre as New Year approaches but some tourists are trying to salvage their holidays - if only to show solidarity with Thais in the tragedy.
Far from causing offence, Phuket's businessmen say these tourists are being labelled as "admirably brave" by locals whose livelihoods have been swept away.
At the Kangaroo bar, on devastated Patong Beach, patrons drink beer by candlelight as the owner repaints bar stools. Metres away, bulldozers are clearing tangled wreckage.
The normally smiling barmen and sex workers join westerners on barstools in downing whisky and chain-smoking.
One girl chokes back tears as she runs to the rest room while another collapses in grief at the bar.
"I did not work for three days after my best friend Ning was crushed to death by two cars over there," said Lek, a sex worker, pointing to the remains of a massage parlour.
Her friend had been cleaning rooms on Sunday morning when the tsunami struck.
Lek said while many local workers were still grieving for the dead or searching for the missing the hope was that tourists would start returning in large numbers, and quickly.
"What can we do, we have to work. Have to live again."
Nodding in agreement a few bar stools down, American tourist Brian Keith said he had decided not to cut his trip short.
"It's not a holiday now and I will not be celebrating New Year but I can't go, it feels like a duty," he said.
"I was on high ground when it struck so I'm lucky, for sure, but the Thais thank me for staying."
Patong hotelier Bob Gray, who was almost swept away by the second of at least six huge waves that struck the island, said local residents were trying to separate the suffering from the fact that lives must be rebuilt.
"The Thai word that is being used the most about this translates as `to fight'," he said.
"There is no social security here, so even as people cremate their loved ones they are having to focus on rebuilding their lives.
"For most this means trying to clean things up and keep the tourists here."
Regulars have continued to arrive and he says occupancy is around 60 per cent.
But New Year will nonetheless pass silently for most.
"We are realistic and know we may have to sell what we have and somehow start again," Mr Gray said, while voicing gratitude for the support from guests.
But for other tourists who choose to remain through the New Year there will be no keeping up appearances.
British tourist Ben Seyried has been looking for his friend Piers since he was swept from sight on Phi Phi island.
Carrying a picture of his friend at Phuket's town hall, which has become the nerve centre of the relief effort, he said he had forgotten New Year was even approaching.
"We have searched every hospital and put up pictures," he said, dressed in clothes donated by Thai relief workers.
"There is still hope and as long as there is hope the search will go on."
Australian embassy officials said even as tourists fly out, other foreigners are flying in to try to find missing friends and relatives.
The only consistent thread among local workers, residents and tourists is hope for the future.
"I can't think what will happen tomorrow," said Lek, gazing around the nearly empty bars along the partly demolished Patong Beach entertainment strip.
"All I want to do right now is take these pictures of the drowning from my mind and make things better here again."
first, i hope all are safe. I know of several people who have not returned my emails and I am worried. The images on TV are mindboggling to me. It could of been any of us.
Anyways, I hope you find this article thought provoking. I found it quite sad.

There are quite a number of hotels of all categories that were undamaged and by March I think even most of the damaged ones will be in business again. There's a Phuket-based divemaster on Lonely Planet's Thorntree that said people were diving again 2 days after the disaster. I haven't heard yet about how the dive sites have been altered by the tsunamis.
To Vaugan, Alistair and others who jumped on Trav Man: I know your hearts are in the right place but the Thais almost unanimously disagree with you. What happened was terrible but even the affected people want to get on with life and we should help them. They won't be helped one bit if we sit in a dark room wimpering for the next 90 days. Trav Man maybe could have worded things a bit better but his business will help people more than postings on a web site.
dunno about the rest of you guys, but i'm speechless.
beyond the sadness and all fairness, thailand really needs toursits dollars.
i had asked similar questions and for diving anyway, there are many areas that were not effected by the tsunami. look everywhere except southern thailand and you will find some very nice places.
this is what the board is for, so postings related to enjoying thailand should always be welcome.
the best long term way to help these areas is to spend your money visiting them. tourism is the largest single source of gnp for thailand
Suprised that everybody think its business as usual in Phuket. Of cource they want to recover as fast as possible, but many places in Phuket are destroyed after last weeks damage.
Over 5000 tourists from western Europe died there...many dead bodies in the water etc. I know that most of the damage came little bit outside Phuket, but the whole city is recovering right now.

so am i.
'terrible sunnamis' - what an insensitive blockhead (trav man i.e.)...
I agree theat the original post came across as insensitive but I really do believe that the best thing we can do is get back there as soon as they're ready and start spending our money again, after all who's in more need of it right now the Thais or Tenerife for example?
I first came to SE Asia (I live in Indonesia now) as a result of just such a situation. I was living in Australia a few months after the Bali bomb and saw travel agents offering phenomenally cheap deals to Bali. My first reaction was how heartless it would be to take advantage of such a deal, but everyone else told me no, spend my money there don't let the brave Balinese go under. When I arrived I was amazed at the friendliness and generosity of people who wanted nothing more than that they could get their lives back to normality after such an awful experience.
I'm due to make another trip abroad in mid-February, my initial plan had been China, but when I heard the news I thought China could wait. I had too many friends who need whatever little help I can give in Phuket. My pathetic gesture might only be buying a few extra beers, taking more tuk-tuks, buying a couple of tee-shirts I don't need; no sacrifice for me but a bit of help on the way to recovery for the magnificent people of Thailand. Think about it, if you had a business which had a fire or flood, initially you would try to sort out the damage and welcome whatever charity friends and neighbours could provide but afterwards what would you want, to sit around in a state of dependency or would you get together what you could and try to start running your business again? The Thais are a very proud people, they will not appreciate us dropping a coin in a begging bowl and then going on to spend big money with someone who right now is not in such dire needs.
I'm going to be watching this forum for the next few weeks, it would be of great assistance to us all if posters there - after helping with the immediate relief and rescue effort of course - could let us know how recovery is coming along. Please keep us informed of when our Thai friends are ready to welcome back guests.
You have to wonder how many tragic fiascos will continue to happen on Thaksin Shinawatra's watch. He seems to bounce from one botched and/or poorly handled calamity to another. When the government leaders are asleep at the switch people die.
Does anyone know if one of our poster M.S. Clive is ok? He had poated earlier that he would be in Phuket on Dec. 26 and haven't seen any reports from him. I sincerely hope he is ok.
S&M
If the hotel is on a hill, it is most likely unaffected as the waters affected the low lying areas only.
Duniawala, let's give him a couple of days. If he was there, I am sure that it is very difficult for him to get online, and I know this board won't be one of his top priorities. I am worried about him, too. But right now all we can do is wait until we hear from him and pray for the health safety of him and all the others who were affected by this tragedy. I wish him the best, and I hope he is ok.
Dorman, your post did sound a little bit insensetive, but I do agree with you 100%. We do have to get back there and start spending our money. It's one of the best things we can do for them right now. A lot of tourists are cancelling plans to travel there. They are expecting to lose a great deal of money because of this. The least we can do is head there and spend money and try to have a good time. I am planning to head to LOS in March, and this is the first time I will go to Phuket. I know things will not be the same as they were before, but the least I can do is go stay in their hotels, eat in their restaurants, drink in the bars, etc. They need my cash, and they need the customers. I think we should give them our support. Dorman, I would imagine that Phuket would be ready for us about the end of January. Things should resemble normal by about then. Guys on the ground in Phuket, let me know if my assumtion is correct. Thanks. PS: For those who might want to flame me, I know it is not business as usual. But there has to be business for Phuket to be able to stand up again, so I feel we should spend as much of our tourist dollars (or pounds, or yen, or whatever) there as soon as we can. They need the cash and the business now. The donations are helping the hungry, homeless, and injured people. But the hotel, restaurant, and bar owners need cash right now, too. If we don't support them also (by patronizing their establishments), they might be forced to fold. So by all means, donate to the relief organizations, but consider spending tourist dollars in Phuket, also. I am sure they will be happy to have you there.

Yesterday Swedish government declared National Mourning Day. According to the Swedish newspaper, a conservative estimate of about 3500-4000 Swedish still missing in Andaman areas. Less than 100 bodies have been recovered and positively identified as Swedish nationals.
A country of less than 9 million population with about 4000 deaths. It seems like everyone in Sweden knows someone lost life in the tsunami.
We really give our deepest condolence to Sweden and all the families all over the world who lost their love ones. This tragedy really tear up so many happy families, so many close friendships. But its warm to see people all over the world pull together to rescue and reconstruct in this desaster. Hope the whole world will be even closer after the catastrophe.
Called a mamasan friend at a bar in central Patong Beach area. She said that even though the town was a mess with dirt, debris and, sadly, a few bodies, that they were opening for business three days after the tsunami.

maybe some of you have already seen this but i wanted to post anyhow.
after perusing events of the day i happened on this web-based written article about patong and its apparent condition post tsunami. it gives a nicely written article of you information about the state of this particular area of interest. i in no way am insensitive to the aftermath of the events but am only adding it as informational.
the photos taken are from hasip [CodeWord134] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord134) rd which lies in the area i mentioned before up a bit in the hills where i always stay.

I agree with the Sweden post.I love that country and am mourning with all of them.I have a proposal, since all of us goes more or less to Thailand I think it would be a good idea for Jackson to ask all forum members to contribute 10dollars to a fund to benifit the Tsunami victims. The amount is not much but every one is free to contribute as much as they like.Just like the Argentinian charity that JACKSON has set up is a good idea,I think it would be a wonderful gesture to show the people affected in this region that we as a group care about the well being of our fellow citizens. I ask for feedback regarding this and would be waiting patiently for Jackson's response. We can contact the REdcross for the donations to be handled properly.
What we can do to help the Thai people and Thai economy the most is to not let the disaster in Phuket deter us from continuing to visit this fantastic country. Our foreign currency spent IN Thailand will help the tourist industry as it will certainly take a serious hit this year. I'm going forward with my monthly sojourns to this truly Land of Smiles... though many tears as of late.

A sweet friend of mine in BKK is suggesting that money should be sent to the Thai Red Cross or the UNICEF in Thailand. She was very adament that money should not be donated to any charities run by the government.
The Thai Red Cross numbers are: 66,2,2564178 or 66,2,2564209
The UNICEF numbers are: +662-356-9473 or
+662-356-9476 ext 9576-9579
To add to the above, I am assuming that one can make donations to these organizations in the respective countries that have been hit the hardest.
This is a beautiful country that has just experienced one of the largest tragedies known to modern man. Personally, I plan to travel to Thailand and Indonesia in April/May and hopefully I will be able to help in my own way.
A European TV news broadcast reported yesterday women in Phuket now asking half their normal price because of lack of customers.
Ok now we're back up and running again can anyone give me a clear direction, is Phuket open for business? I'm going to Thailand on Sunday and would like to pop down to check up on some old friends, so I'd like to be sure I'n not going to be regarded as a heartless bastard by showing up at a scene of tragedy.
Can anyone help?

I went to Phuket this summer on a family vacation, and was impressed as normal with the hospitality of the Thai people there. I'll be going back to BKK in 7 weeks, and thinking of doing a side trip to Phuket. In some ways I will hate to see the damage done to some of the places I visited, (not to even talk about the personal tragedies) but think it's important to support the people too. Has anyone gone there lately?

You will certainly NOT be seen as a heartless bastard, the people in Phuket need tourists to return in large numbers as soon as possible. From what I have read on the internet much of Phuket is back to normal even in the affected areas such as Patong many of the hotels are open for business.

Hi guys,
Just got back from Phuket and my biz partner mentioned - more in passing than anything else - about a wonderful new place there - something like Fantasy or ???
Unfortunately it wasn't really appropriate for me to press the matter or ask him to take me as he's a new biz partner and to do so would have not been 'convenient.'
Anyway, he told me it was some kind of old movie house in Phuket town itself. Its been truned into quite a high market place mostly patronized by the Locals. i.e. none of the darker, rougher, see-it-all-before-you-buy types favored by Farangs. Its got a jazz band, a dance floor and a sort of fishbowl with over 100 (???) true beauties waiting to be picked. The Prix de la maison is Baht 2,800 a pop.
What can you guys tell me about this? Where is it exactly, Exact name,, how to find it, is my info complete/correct, what is the "deal" in the Bht 2,800 - is it a massage, a take out, in house?? where is the 'deed' done etc etc.
Any and all info would be much appreciated.
I went to Patong Beach last weekend as my friends working there said there were no tourists. They were not kidding. The town is up and running. It is hard to tell a tsunami hit. All is clean and there is no debris. Beach road is wiped out as far as establishments, but if you go another twenty feet, it is business as usual.
Prices are down for everything from hotels to food to entertainment. Go now and help float the Phuket economy as these folks need it. In another three months, it will probably crowded as it has been in the past.
I recently returned from Phuket (Patong Beach). I was there from 14-22 Jan and had a great time. I stayed at the Aloha Villa and was warmly received. many tourists have cancelled their winter trips and the locals are screaming for the normal tourist trade.
Some damage to the businesses on the beach was still evident, but by and large the town was up and running well, all the bars, clubs and restaurants were in operation and there were LOTS of girls everywhere.
I did a lot of scuba diving and that was also super, although many of the dive boats were cancelling trips due to lack of divers.
The beaches were all cleaned up and beautiful.
I would go back in a heart-beat; many people there asked me to spread the word that "Phuket was OK again!!"
Maybe the weekend things will pick up. Have not ventured into Patong Beach yet, but this newbie wanted to meet up with mongers for advice and a few laughs over a brew.

Can anyone here tell me if it is possible to find VIETNAMESE ladies in Phuket. I will be in Phuket in about a weeks time for a couple of days and would love to hook up with a Viet. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Yes, thanks for your help, Patong is up and running though very quiet, but tourist are extremely welcome. The seafront properties have been devastated but a block or two in everything is normal (except for Molly Malone's oddly). I checked up on a few friends and it appears they are all alive though their livelihoods have been destroyed. Like I said worth going again, they want us back - they need us back.
I'm in Phuket mid March for about 4-5 days and would like to go diving while I'm out there. I am planning on staying in Patong, for obvious reasons. I was wondering if people had recommendations for good dive shops in Patong (I understand there are quite a few). Also how far away are the good dive sites?
Many thanks
Since there is no "INTRODUCTION" section, I will drop this into where I have been most often.
I have been reading the WSGForums on and off for several years now and have decided to give the membership a try.
Thailand has been my true love for many years, although not my first in the Mongering business, that honor goes to Mexico. Other places such as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia and certain Canadian cities have shown me their share of fun, but I keep coming back to Thailand. Why? Well if you've spent any length of leisure time in the LOS, you know exactly what I mean.
I have visited Thailand on 4 occasions:
October 2000 (Phuket Town, Patong Beach)
February 2001 (Phuket Town, Patong Beach)
May-June 2002 (Phuket Town, Patong Beach)
May-June 2004 (Sukhumvit, Bangkok)
Everytime I return I am both humbled by the Thai peoples friendliness and generosity and dumbfounded by their (street vendors) ability to swindle, scam and deceive. I started out my LOS journey as a Happy Fool and have graduated into an Informed and Giddy Fool.
Phenomena I have witnessed while in LOS:
Katoey - While not exclusive to Thailand, these folks always seem to travel in packs of 3-4. Probably meant as a defense from unwary and extremely homophobic westerners. Their wardrobe has been wide and varying from Marilyn Monroe style dresses and wigs to modern daisy dukes, pink hot pants and lacey halter tops. No one attribute has ever been a dead give away for me. Some have the hard facial features of a man, some do not. Others have the adams apple, broad shoulders and a deep resounding voice, while there are some that look better than the lead cheerleader back in high school. Outrageous is a fitting description, indeed.
Bar Girls - The perpetual mainstay of any well traveled Soi. I swear these girls were born with a bar stool attached to their hind-quarters and a penchant for whiskey. The variety is astonishing for a newbie as well as an old dog. My very first experience with Thai Bar Games didn't net me a whole lot of respect at first. I tired quickly after the first few games of Jenga and Connect 4, so I rolled up my straw paper and started a spitball fight with the girl that had inadvertently attached herself to my arm. I quickly found out how intolerant they could become and so I proceeded to make a peace offering with a Heineken and excused my self for a [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) break. Needless to say, I didn't return.
Asian Laundry Service - This is one stereotype that turned out to be a true blessing. Better than any service back home. Hands down!
Hotels I have stayed in:
Do not know whether or not the prices were fair, but I enjoyed my stay nonetheless.
TANA PATONG HOTEL
181/16 Rat-U-Thit Rd. Patong, Kathu
8 days x 650 baht = 5200 baht (16 per day / 135 total USD)
Thought: "Good place to crash and burn after a hard night of drinking and mongering."
FEDERAL HOTEL BANGKOK
27 Sukhumvit Rd., Soi 11
Soi Chaiyos, Bangkok
7 days x 1300 baht = 9100 baht (33 per day / 237 total USD)
Thought: "Great for the price. Laundry service, meal delivery, and 10 minutes from everywhere."
On the Tsunami: I have a TG, so to speak, that lives in Patong and was privvy to a first hand account to the devastation. First of all, the worldwide news media organizations such as CNN & the BBC have proven once again that sensationalism wins over actual investigative reporting. According to local news at the time, Phuket was a total disaster not unlike Banda Aceh in Indonesia. With a deep gasp and a trembling hand, I called her up to confirm she survived and sure enough, she had. She lives about one mile in from the beach near the base of the hill (as if you were taking a Tuk Tuk to Phuket Town). She said the waves came in approximately 1/4 mile and wiped out everything on Thaweewong Rd. So much for total devastation!
On a closing note, I have a spare 12 days coming up in May and I am torn between the Big City of Bangkok or the laid back little Hamlet of Patong. Even though I was in walking distance of Nana, I never stopped by on my first trip. Maybe Bangkok?
Where is the contact information of that guy I saw on these boards who, for a small fee, will give you a run down of the best places in Bangkok to check out? Supposed to be a personal friend of Jackson or something like that? My knowledge is dated, so whether he is still around or not is unknown to me.
(lifting a pilsner in the air for a toast) "Here's to a fun, lucrative and informative relationship, fellas!"
"Cheers."
Need to decide on my hotel in Phuket (Patong). Don't want anything too fancy, but at the same time don't want anything too cheap.
Options I've come up with are:
Salathani
Summerbreeze
Blue Ocean Resort
Boomerang Inn
Ipanema Cabana Hotel
Expat
In the past I've stayed at Family Inn. Have to say this was fine. They supposedly used to charge a joiner's fee, but I never had any problems. They seem to have dropped that now. However it was a tiny bit out of the way.
Any recommendations / suggestions, etc?
Cheers
I have had trouble finding flights to the Phuket Airport in the past 48 hours. Whats wrong? My searches for tickets come back as unavailable for this destination.
The airport in Phuket is fully functional, yes?
I have tried ALL the major sites including Cheap Tickets, Hotwire, Orbitz and Travelocity for May 21st and it keeps sending me "no flights met your search criteria" message.

Hey guys,
My first posting since I became a regular.
Anyone knows if Phuket arcadia Hilton is a girl friendly hotel ? Also what's the scene around the hotel ? Escort services recommendations ?
Looking forward to your replies.

Try the Thai airways and Bangkok Airways site and you should be able to book the flights out of BKK and other places.
Thai website: http://thaiairways.com/
Bangkok Air: http://www.bangkokair.com/en/
On BK Air, the "TO" field sometimes doesn't have a window. In that case just press GO and the field will open up.
Hope this helps. Plenty of flights to Phuket. Since I don't know where you are flying from to go to Phuket there are flights from Singapore, Jakarta, KL etc. as well.
Thanks for the tip Duniawala.
Here is one that I find very helpful.

Try this site---VERY cheap flights to Phuket.

Anybody on Phuket right now ?
I intend to boost the local economy and to donate to the working girls who had lost a huge part of their business due to the tsunami and the lack of customers.
So how is the current situation ? Still enough cute girls to choose from ?
My intel tells me that many girls went to Pattaya and other places.
Is that true ?
How are the hotel prices right now ? Still overpriced ?
Regarding my info, prices should be down 30% average.
Are girl-unfriendly hotels now girl-friendly ?
Any input on that would be welcomed and honored with a beer on arrival.

If you reserve AirAsia a little in advance, you can still get 499 one way. Went down there for a quick weekend on AirAsia several weeks ago but didn't get the cheapest fare, paid 1000 plus 230 tax each way, still cheap.
The bars and clubs on Bangla all opened but still quite empty. There are many girls in Tiger disco and quite a few hang out on the streets nearby after closing time as usual. But overall it doesn't seem to be peak season like before. I heard some ladies left to work in other cities like Bangkok or Hat Yai. There are not as many tourists as before so no problem finding a lady. But the quality has gone down a bit. I think the nice cuties now cannot get many good customers like good old days (some nice cuties can get 2-3 rounds a night before, now they can barely survive) so they left to work elsewhere for a while. Hope the mass tourists come back soon and the nice babes will follow.

RCA Knight,
does that mean that there is only crap left ?
Have you seen any cute ones ?
Don't want to waste my precious time by flying down to Phuket when there are no cute girls available. Hmm, maybe I should bring my own and if I am able to find a cute one go for a threesome :)
Doh!
This does not sound good! I'm planning on being in Phuket on the 19th for about five nights!

I think if you guys want to come down to Phuket for a holiday and help to revive the economy after tusnami is the greatest thing. But if you only intend to come down here for ladies, I think at present moment people will be a bit disappointed. Because Phuket is still very quiet and I did not see any cutie honestly. There are still lots of lower end level to choose from if you are not picky, but I hunted 3 nights all over Patong and seriously I did not find one that stands out. I personally know several cuties used to work in Phuket. I called them when I was there but they are now working Hat Yai or BKK.

RCA Knight,
thanks for the info.
Sometimes I am quite choosy so the current situation might lead to lonely nights. Guess it's better to bring my own and if lucky finding a cutie, do a threesome. Nothing to complain about, right ? :)
Thanks for the info. So I do not have to go there this time. The years before there have always been the best choice in Thailand in my opinion even if they were quite spoilt.

I bumped into a cute girl last year in Phuket town, she worked at a bar I think was called 'The Kiko Bar', owned by gay guys, one Thai, one Japanese. This girl was a real cutie and went by the name of Kiddy. I had her mobile number but lost it. I am back in Phuket in a few weeks and want to locate her. My guess is she will have moved around over the past year and wondered if any of you guys had bumped into her and know her where abouts, save me searching the island. Oh and she had a rather interesting tattoo so if you met her you would know her. She was well hot. In the past 15 years of hobbying I reckon she rates my No1.

I'm planning a trip to Phuket in April. I'm pretty sure I want to stay near Kata or Karon Beach. Does anyone have an opinion as to which area of these beaches are best for the single (sex) tourist? If anyone has a favorite hotel near these beaches I would like to know that too. Right now I'm thinking of getting a place near Dino Bar and Club Med. I've read elsewhere http://www.phuket.net/phuket_bars.htm that there are bars all over the place. But it sounds like the majority are near the south end of Karon Beach
I stayed in Patong last time and I found it a bit overbuilt and too many people pushing their "buying opportunities."
This time I'm going on a bit of a leap of faith that talent can be found on all the beaches including Karon and Kata.
Fly safely.
visited patong again yesterday.
tourist are back and so are the girls. bangla rd crowded as before and supply well above demand, but mixed quality. found a new area under development. go to the end of bangla road, turn left and follow [CodeWord134] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord134) rd 150 meters. they are opening a number of new bars in a new soi (soi sukhumvit!!) opposit of ayudhya bank. next month they will open a disco and later also go go bars according to the bar owners.
there seems to be a party every night with new bars opening. black and white bar is good for italians as the owner speaks the language.
saturday 19.03 thunder bar will have big opening party with lots of horney girls and lots of fun. check out the rotation of the butt of doo when she is making her show, incredible. and 1500 for st, but worth it!
just sorry i have to return back to bkk tonight.
please post review of your experience!
With the presence of the U.S. Navy Phuket is alive and well atleast for the weekend. Women of all shapes and size came here to support the ship. They are also quting insane prices. 2000 Baht for a ST. I thought this girl was crazy. 1000 Baht Tuk-Tuk rides it's crazy here.
Last night I did talk to a very nice nice at one of the beer bars after making serval rounds looking for the right one. She quouted 2000 for ST, but then changed her mind for LT. She was welll worth the 2K and I was surprised when she didn't let the locals try to rip me off on the taxi rides in the area.
She provided a great BBBJ and sex. I really enjoyed myself. She stayed until I had to go to work, but I think she would have stayed all day.
This is my first time in Thailand and I am enjoying every minute.

So is the Navy gone yet? Have prices returned to reasonable? Is Soi Eric back in business?
These are crucial vacation planning questions. Crucial i tell you.
So is the Navy gone yet? Have prices returned to reasonable? Is Soi Eric back in business?
These are crucial vacation planning questions. Crucial i tell you.Arrived in Phuket not sure what to expect after all the negative reports of late. Phuket has definitely changed, and not for the better yet. It badly needs tourists to return in quantity.
Quality of girls, generally speaking, has gone down, and far fewer of them. Speaking to old friends, it appears that many girls are so afraid of a repeat Tsunami that they have left for good to Bangkok or Pattaya. Others who are not so superstitious have still left due to lack of tourists.
Booked in at the Expat, and went strolling. Found a few good ones still in my old hunting grounds of Soi Eric, a side soi off Soi Bangla. Surprisingly good selection, given my initial impression of the place. Found a real cutie, 24 no kids, tall slim,, claimed (as always!) to have arrived that week, and had a very pleasurable full service BBBJ night for 1000 Baht. Not too bad a way to start my break!
The next two nights explored the side sois off Bangla, and basically ended up with the same results. Selection is obviously lower than before, but they are still there if you take the time to look, and prices have not changed at all. Soi Tiger had a good selection, and even the new Soi Lion had a few cuties.
Went off to Soi Sea Pearl, a beer bar cluster on the left as you go down Soi Sainamyen, 500 metres west of Bangla, from 2nd road to the beach. In it’s heyday, this was my favourite fishing hole, missed by most of the regular tourists. Today, it is half the size it was a year ago, and a very limited selection. Still managed to pull a 20 year old , no kids, 34B, who I kept for 2 days (breaking my own rule!) as she very enthusiastically serviced me without prompting. It has been said many times before in this forum, but if you treat the girls with a little respect (they are human, and most are working only to support families after all) smile and joke with them, the rewards multiply exponentially! How true.
Turns out that Soi Sea Pearl is being razed to make way for a new road and hotel, so no wonder they were not doing much to repair Tsunami damage. Many of the bars have already relocated to the old Moodies bar mall, located on 2nd road about 150 metres west of Bangla. Now called Soi Sukhumvit!! Maybe it will bring some life into what has traditionally been poor hunting grounds.
Decided to get out of Patong, and went trolling in Phuket Town. Went to Fantasia, a new high end bar for rich Thais in the centre of Phuket Town. Very classy, huge bar with amazing sound system, sexy dance troop from BKK (not available for bookings, unfortunately!) and around 50 average to good looking ladies in evening gowns all seated behind a long bar. However, sticker shock killed me – a Heineken was 260 Baht, short time was 2700 Baht and long time an amazing 3600Baht. I can speak reasonably good Thai, and overheard the same pricing being given to the locals! Not my cup of tea, I much prefer cheap and nasty, wherever I travel! Strolled down to a new nightclub called Zanzibar, Phuket Royal City Hotel, which had a very good band with an amazing lead singer, a Thai Tina Turner. Around 11, it became very full, and quite a few groups of girls in mid 20’s. They all, at some time or other during the evening, made a show of passing by and saying hello. I was one of only a handful of Farangs in the place, and the only single one, (also strategically seated on the way to the washroom - old habits die hard!) so must have stood out to them. Collected phone numbers from several really sweet ones, but it was obvious from their questions that they were looking for a boyfriend rather than a professional one night encounter. However, there appeared a group of 5 really attractive girls across the bar, who held eye contact for a really long time. Working girls! Went over, and sure enough, they were there for customers! Nowhere near as professional as their sisters in Patong, they were college girls out to supplement income. Pleasantly shy, I picked what to me was the most attractive with the best attitude combination, unfortunately, a 3some was not on the cards with these girls, no matter how hard I encouraged it! Went off to eat at Fever Corner. Very few girls there compared to last visit, though it was a little early at only 1 am. Took her back to Patong, and was amazed at how many stunning looking girls were now in town! Amazing isn’t it, how as soon as you choose your one for the night, you immediately see better options! Never mind, went to room and did the deed, very good all round GFE! Next day, gave her 1000 Baht (no point in spoiling the prices for other mongers!) plus 300 baht for a TUK Tuk back to Phuket.
Found out that my eyesight wasn’t all that bad after all, there really was an amazing number of hotties around, because the US Navy had arrived! All had come in from around Thailand – I heard from Hat Yai , Bangkok and Pattaya in particular. Amazing jungle telegraph system – “there is a boat load of horny young guys with lots of money arriving, spread the word!”
My usual rule is to get out of town fast as soon as I see a grey ship in the bay anywhere. This time, however, I stayed. Never before seen the troops so quiet and well behaved, never before seen so many Shore Patrol. Something has obviously been said to these boys. No fights, no drunks, just massive quantities of short time. I sat at a bar on the corner of Soi Bangla and Soi Sea dragon, and between 1 and 4 in the afternoon, saw one very sexily dressed pro take 7 short timers in succession off to a room close by. I smiled every time she left or returned, and it soon turned into a game, she laughing right back! She was still pulling when I left! The good news is that almost all these boys were back on the ship by 10 pm, leaving huge quantities of great looking girls around with lots of money in their bags! And did they party! Went to Tiger Disco and had a great time! Saw the girl who had been pulling furiously earlier that day, she recognised me and bought ME a beer! Turns out she had been getting 3000 baht per pull on average! Made more in one afternoon than she normally makes all month in Patttaya! Good for her!
Ended up with an average looker who more than made up for it in personality. I personally prefer someone who I know will be fun over a model quality ice queen any day, even though I still love the “trophy hunt!” at times. On the way back to the hotel, told her about the disappointment of no 3some with the college girls the night before. “You want?” she asked, I nodded, and she phoned a friend to come around! She arrived 30 minutes later, and I ended up with a great night! What service! Sometimes, all you gotta do is ask! My original girl was not shy in licking her friend’s sweet pussy, but not the other way around. Still, I wasn’t complaining! Gave them both the standard 1000 Baht next day, plus 300 baht each tip for such good service!
Next few nights followed the same pattern, first time I have actually enjoyed the Navy being in town! Didn’t even venture out hunting until after 11 pm, when the troops were all back asleep! Pulled good ones from Soi Tiger, Soi Sea Dragon and then my called my twosome back for a repeat session! Turns out I am breaking all my rules, must be getting older!
Many girls at Tai Pan disco which is open until after 3 most nights, and when that closes, any girls still not hitched head for Safari disco, about 10 minutes drive south, on the hill towards Karon. This place is full until almost daylight! I think the government is relaxing the rules post Tsunami, in order to help people get back on their feet. It was strictly closing time at 2 am in town and 3 pm at Safari pre Tsunami.
With the Navy gone, all the real pro’s immediately left town, and Patong was back to as before. With “been there, done that” syndrome setting in, I decided to head down to Hat Yai for a few days, not having been for more than a year. Report will continue in that section.
Attached are a few shots from recent activities. Have found that many girls are now very wary of having pics taken, as many know they now end up on the internet. One even knew that her picture was on WSG, her monger had told her(!) and absolutely refused to appear in ant shots, even clothed.
Maybe better to keep quiet as to where we are posting for the good of everyone!
Yes the American Navy left a few days ago, so everything back to normal. But still low level of tourism compared to pre Tsunami. Prices have dropped after the Americans left, but Tuk Tuk is still 100 Bt which is kind of insane compared with Bangkok Taxi prices. But the sun tanned babes of Patong are special.

Word from a friend in immigration is that Thai Immigration will be setting up at least 2 mobile immigration desks at yet unnamed resorts in Phuket in order to extend visas for those wanting to stay longer. It is in hope of keeping tourists and $ in the area for longer periods of time without them having to go through an agency or doing a border run.
The initial test will be for about 2 months.
sure will make things easier!
I've always heard that Phuket is the most expensive place for entertainment in Thailand. In general, it's full of foreigners with money burning holes in their pockets so the rates there are usually much higher than anywhere else. But, I just went there and had a lovely time there for 1800 B.
First, a taxis took me to Muang Fan on Poonpon Soi 1. It looked like any other brightly lit restaurant in Thai but at this one, there were only young ladies and they weren't eating. The men chose their poison from outside as the women waited to be called. It was my first time so I asked the Papa who was the best. They pointed me to Ann, she wasn't a hotty but was worth every kratang(500 Baht for short time half/half). I then walked back and found the Siam Hotel that. The taxi driver said that none were worth looking at but on the 4th floor, a siren named Gate appeared. Just fabulous. The had the works done one her, tummy tuck, breast enlargement, but man, the doctor was a magician. No kissing but a beautiful lay for 400B.
I then went with Rowi, a woman in her late 30's for another 400B.
I finished my 24 hour stop over at a massage parlor down the street. The most beautiful Bun gives the most sensual massage. Sucked her tits and got a handy and an hour massage for 400B.
So, you too can have cheap thrills in Phuket Town.
Enjoy!
I think Phuket is a dump. I didn't like it five years ago when I was there on a junket, and I didn't care for it last week when I went to take a scuba course. I'm not a fan of Thai girls so I didn't bother doing the Bangla or any other scene, but being in Patong Beach, where every other person is shouting "hello, new suit," "hello, tuk-tuk," "hello, whatever" sucked royally. I may go back there to do further training because I like the dive school (Scuba Cat, highly recommended), but the place licks, and not in a good way.
Intransit,
First of all I am sorry that my first post here is negitive one towards a member.
Ithink that putting up with locals trying to make a very modest living is a small price to pay for the privilage to be staying in such a fantastic place, and as a senior member I am surprised you dont accept that.
Also given the nature of this board, it was a strange place to visit given that you are not as you say "a fan of Thai girls"
Just my 2 bhats worth.
I will try to make my next post more positive.

Intrasit----if you don't like Thai girls, fair enough, but can I remind you that you are posting on a Thailand section of the WSG. I would imagine that there are dive schools all over the world----try some of them.
i just returned from 3 weeks in thailand. i started out spending 10 days in bangkok, 4 nights in pattaya, 4 nights in patong, and 3 nights on phi phi leh.
my experiences in the various venues (nana plaza, soi cowboy, walking road, and bangla road) gave me a pretty good opportunity to review the mongering scene in thailand.
phuket was a beautiful island, a great change (geographically) from bangkok but was rather lame in the night scene. the bars on bangla road were pretty empty just about every evening. generally there were about 5-10 girls sitting in each bar, some bars had a few guys sitting around but in general, the place was empty. the locals had a very desolate look in there eyes, a look of despair!.
i would rate bangla at the low end of the entertainment spectrum compared to soi cowboy, nana, and ecspecially walking road in pattaya.
i did manage to get a pretty good rate at the novotel (patong) for only $67/night including buffet breakfast. they gave me a upgraded room on one of the top floors overlooking the beach. luckily i left the day before the city of patong had a mandatory electrical blackout for two straight days (daytime only). could not imaging how it would have been without a/c!! quite a few people i spoke with told me that alot of the hotels did not notify the guests when the earthquake struck sumatra two weeks ago. quite unsettling for the tourists
also nabbed a great offer at the 4 star phi phi island resort for 3 days/2 nights including buffet breakfast, fixed traditional thai dinner, transportation from patong to phuket town and speed boat transport direct to the resort (avoiding long public ferry ride).. 4900 baht total, taxes and transport included. what a beautiful island chain,, a shame that the main areas got so devastated (tonsai bay)
timing is everthing and i was lucky to have missed the earthquakes two weeks ago and the one yesterday,,,
rather be lucky than good,,
Hello all, Finally in Thailand. Only problem is family is also here. Staying at Kata Beach. Anything in this area or do I need to head up to Patong or Phuket Town? Specific directions appreciated because I will probably print them and hand them to one of the cabbies. Still have another 5 days on the island. Would really like to sample the local girls.

I've been coming down to Phuket on and off for the past 5 years and can truly say that I do enjoy this tropical paradise lots!
Am now trying to organize another trip next week but was told by my travel agent - horror of horrors - that the previous cheap flights on Orient Thai will not start until May 1 and that Dragon Air has stopped flying there. The only flight available is on Thai Airways which transits in Bangkok - thus making the previous 3-1/2 hour flight into an odyssey of anywhere from 5-1/2 hours to even 9 hours, depending on when I fly PLUS the cost is over HK$3,500.
Is this true? I thought that there is a big "Phuket" Drive to get more tourists down after the Tsunami. Do you guys know of any way I could get down and back Hong Kong/Phuket in a more convenient AND cheaper way?
Would appreciate any advise.
Thanks!
Gas Can (Gas Can???),
Just mention 'Patong' and any fool driving those little Phuket vans will understand what you're looking for.
The shortest route runs along the coast, a very hilly road. Just stay on until you get there, no way can you miss the bars...
They will ask for B500 or so one way - they will settle for B100 daytime, B150-200 nighttime.
Are there no regular buses to Patong from Kata? Busservices do go from places like Kata, Karon, Rawai and Patong to Phuket Town (near the market) for sure, where you can change to buses to any of those places.
Regular busservice terminates around 5.30 PM. Every trip takes up to 45 mins plus change-buses time.
Phuket takes a little (well, a lot) of getting used to. The roadplan is difficult to understand to say the least. Lots of one way streets and funny patterns to follow when you're driving or riding yourself.
BTW All Phuket Town taxidrivers are assholes - no exceptions! I've posted on those morons more than once.
Best grab a van, say 'Patong', hold on for dear life until you get there, let a girl take you to her room and fuck her trying hard not to think of your wife:(.
Then go back to Kata, you won't be bothered by the way your driver drives: Your life has changed forever:D!
[QUOTE=Gas Can]Staying at Kata Beach. Anything in this area or do I need to head up to Patong or Phuket Town?
Hi Gas Can,
Kata is very quiet compared to Patong, or even to Karon(!). There is a small cluster of beer bars on Patak Rd West (beach rd.) just south of the intersection with Tai Na rd. A few more at the east end of Tai Na near Patak Rd East (main road to Patong / Chalong). There are a few inexpensive hotels nearby with 400 baht rooms for short or long time time. Masage parlours are a plenty, and may be another option.
Karon has a slightly better selection of bars, a cluster between the stadium and Luang Pho Chuan rd., more at the beach end of Patak Road East, near the circle.
Girls available at all, though quality and quantity is far lower than in Patong.
Better bet is to take the tuk tuk ride to Patong (100-200 baht depending on negotiating skills and time of day/night). Much more choice, both BG and FL's.
When will Phuket ever get a baht bus service like Pattaya?
Let us know how you make out.
Thanks for the info gents. Will head out tonight to see what kind of trouble I can get into. Had the time last night, but didn't feel like getting soaked.
And while I am a dog, not here with the wife. Brought my folks over for a holiday. Promised myself I would behave but things just look too good.
Will take a tuk tuk to Patong this evening. Will let you know how things go.
Thanks.

a couple years ago i stayed at patong beach, patong villa hotel. i thought it was ok. but it didn’t have the relaxing beach atmosphere i was looking for. there are plenty of girls and things to do. but that’s not what i am always looking for. on my last visit i took a tuk-tuk to explore the southern beaches. kata is great but i also liked karon. i think karon is a great balance of relaxation and opportunities for fun. i stayed at the south sea resort for 1400 baht a night. high speed internet is available in some rooms for 500 or 600 baht. it’s a bit flakey and not worth it in my opinion. the hotel is ok. breakfast is pretty good. the hotel is girl friendly. there is still some clean up to be done across the street from the hotel. i imagine everything is nearing completion by now. i found the many open air bars at the north end of the beach to be great fun – the ones on the side streets close to little mermaid hotel, near the circle. hell the beach ain’t that big. you’ll find it. there are plenty of girls available there also for the number of men. i met a real sweetie in a bar at the south end of the beach. there are plenty of small not so brightly lit bars along thai na road. i had dinner at dino bar (diverse menu) which is at the southern end of the beach and karon café (good steaks) at the northern end. i recommend both places though i didn’t see any working girls there. i was looking for the anchor bar which is supposed to be on thai na road. i never found it. does anyone know if it still exists?
the girl in the photo is tar. this girl has a heart of gold. i wish i could have packed her up and taken her home with me. i found her in a bar along thai na road. i walked in. i sat next to her. we spoke for maybe a minute and then started fooling around right there in the bar. i took her back to my hotel for long time for 1000 baht. if you find yourself sitting next to her don’t hesitate to take her home. she’s worth it.
on my second day in phuket i went for an all day snorkeling trip. the cost was 1500 or 1600 baht. it included snorkeling at three beaches. stopping at two of the most beautiful beaches i have ever seen. drinks and snacks were provided for free throughout the day. flippers cost 50 baht. and a beach chair and umbrella at the final beach cost 150 baht. take 400 baht with you to pay for these things and a tip for the guide. it’s a great way to spend a day. if you have a tendency towards seasickness you may want to purchase some dramamine or something like it. you’ll spend a total 2 to 2.5 hours traveling by boat over the course of the day. i’ve included some beach shots. stops or photo ops included the phi phi islands, james bond island, shark bait island, some island with monkeys. and a little pale full of sand island where lunch was served. i wish the group i was with was more fun. i really wish i had met tar before this trip so i could have taken her.
i’m also including some shots from the bars at the north end of karon beach. they were all great fun and took good care of me. i didn’t take any of them home with me however.
i'll post tar in another post. i can't get them to upload.

Nowadays if you like a good mixture of normal Tourist behaviour + a nightscene in Thailand, I would not recommend Pattaya but PHUKET!
The prices went steep down for lodging. I found myself a nice room away from the extensive tourist area. For only 500 Baht. Very clean, every comfort Bahtroom (shower) + toilet, Kingsize bed, terras, dressers, TV, AC + fan, so most Western comforts available.
When you add a 120 upto 200 Baht/day for a motobyke, you are off and free wherever you wanna go for a total of : 700 Thai/Baht !! I dont know any place right now where you can find this on a vacation trip.
Anybody wanting the right place just visit my photopage and you will find out.
Otherwise send me a mail for further details.

COT,
Nice no bs reporting. Phuket is a great place to be.
Nice photos too, presented in a non WSG bandwidth consuming manner:), which is always good!
First, thanks to the folks who responded to my earlier posts requesting the laydown on Phuket. My parents were visiting in Korea and since it was the off season and some great rates were available, decided to take them to Phuket for a week.
Initially decided to behave and as a result, did no research. After three days, couldn't take it anymore and sent out the call for help. Again, thanks to all who responded.
Managed to get out twice. I was staying on Kata Noi beach and decided to take a tuk tuk to Patong. Cost each way was 300 baht (around US 7.50). Just told the drivers I was looking for drinking and girls.
All were in the know and pointed out a place called Christines on the way to the entertainment district. The first night, after wandering around for a few hours, I went back to Christines.
Very nice setup. It's in a former Hotel and runs fishbowl style with the girls segregated by price. Started at 1800 baht and went up to 2300 baht, depending on age.
They had a good selection of girls and after talking to the lady whop met me at the door, decided on two of the 1800 baht ladies. Went up to the room and got down to business.
Total time allowed was 90 minutes and it was a great experience. THe rooms was large and about a third taken up by a whirlpool tub and shower. They both gave me a GREAT soapy (much better than Korea) and then we moved to the bed and got down to business. Recieved CBJ and CFS in multiple positions. Afterwards, received another great massage on the bed. Tipped each 200 baht and left. Total damage was US 100 and I left with a smile.
Only dissapointment was I really wanted BBBJ which wasn't available and EVERYONE tried to hit me up for a tip.
Second night I was out, stayed later. Was in the area where the road is blocked off for pedestrians and the tuk tuk drivers were having a big demonstration.
Went into one of the go go bars on a side street and had a few drink. One gal was absolutely gorgeous. She saw me giving her the eye and came over to sit. Bought her two drinks at 130 baht each and then she had to go dance.
While she was dancing, mommy came over and we started negotiating.
Price quoted for short time was 1500 baht plus 500 baht barfine. I got her down to 1000 baht plus the bar fine.
The girls name was "Dow" and she was about 4'11" and maybe 80 pounds. Very small breasts and a great ass. She changed and we left. Found a hotel near the strip and got a room for 400 baht.
Was probably one of the best experiences of my life. Totally willing to please. Started out with BBBJ and moved on to CFS in multiple positions. Finished all over her perky little tits.
Tipped her 200 baht and then took off back to the hotel. Only regret was I couldn't keep her for the night.
Have no idea whether or not I got ripped off by local standards, but based on what I'm used to paying in Korea, it was a real bargain. Will have to make a trip by myself in the next year or so.
Once again, thanks for the help. Sorry I don't have the names of the hotel or bar. Just kind of wandered in without paying a lot of attention to the details.
Hi All,
Thanks for all the great info. Looking at the map, it seems like Club Andaman is near the middle of the action. Anyone know if it is GF? any other reccomendations? I would prefer a nice GF within walking distance of the action. I will be there May 22nd for a week if anyone would like to get together for a beer.

Biff Byte,
"I will be there May 22nd for a week if anyone would like to get together for a beer."
End of May is well into the low season. You will find many cheap rooms on offer. Which means you might as well not book in advance, but look around once on the ground instead.
Gentlemen,
Thank you for all your info! I have a general question maybe someone can assist me with. I am taking my 2 nephews who are graduating from Tulane and Florida State university at the end of May(31-14 Jun). We are headed to South east Asia for a graduation trip. I have done Phuket and all of Thailand (Marine Corps and multiple returns as a civilian). I was there in Nov 2004 and everthing was awesome. However, with all that has transpired and with low season aproaching is phuket worth a visit this time of year or should we visit other parts of Thailand.
Thank you.
Hi FlyJets,
I was in Phuket a month before the Tsunami. Unfortunately havent been there since.
Anyway ny the look of the posts and other amterials I have read seems everything is back to normal in Phuket. Except the amount of girls and quality is abit reduced.
Anyway maybe Pattaya would be a safer choice?

BiffNo, not GF Friendly. Should find hotels nearer to Soi Bangla..this is where most of the action will be found. Lots of Budget hotels around Soi Sansabai near to Soi Bangla.

Thank you. Some parts of the beach is still under renovation/reconstruction but the rest of the area is as before. Soi Bangla is rocking and the quality of girls are better than that found in Pattaya, imho. Soi Erc, Soi Seadragon, Tiger, Soi Katoey are as before. Taipan, Baya Bay should be a good place to hangout.
[QUOTE=FlyJets]Gentlemen,
"However, with all that has transpired and with low season aproaching is phuket worth a visit this time of year or should we visit other parts of Thailand."
If you read previous posts, the general impression is that things are picking up quite nicely. There are still plenty of girls around, though you may have to look a little harder than before, but the main centres are still rocking. Plus, the girls are hungrier due to low levels of tourists, so pricing is still very good.
Freelance haunts like Tai Pan and Baya are excellent right now!
However, if it really is an eye opening experience that you are providing, why think "either/or"? Why not do it all! There are cheap flights every day from Phuket to Bangkok (Thai-Orient, Noc Air, Air Asia), and direct flights from Phuket to Pattaya via Bangkok Airways. Spend some time in Phuket to help rebuild the local economy, and if not satisfied, head off to Pattaya and/or Bangkok! They all have different experiences to offer.

Hi all,
My first visit to Phuket. I was just wondering if you ahve any suggestions / contact details of any real good Escort agencies in Phuket? Travelling there on 9 May.
Also does anyone know if Phuket aracadia Hilton is girl friendly ?
Look forward to your replies.. Thanks in advance. I can't wait to take my younger bro for a ggod ride :-)
WEE ZEL,
Thank you for your post. That is the best idea; try Phuket if we do not like it we head out to another city. I really wanted to return to Phuket and just needed a little push. I want to help them back into line and give other people the opportunity to explore and enjoy the delights of Phuket. I regularly stay outside of Patong however, this trip I might stay at Club Bamboo in Patong. Anyone heard of this and or recommend the property. Finally, my last question!@#%%^&. Is the Banana Disco open for business?
Thanks again,
Peace out.

With so many girls in Phuket right now, I do not understand why anyone would want an expensive escort service. You end up paying many times the going rate for the same girl (well, maybe a little better English, but not enough to discuss world politics with!!) in a more elegant dress. The agency pockets the difference. Just go to one of the discos, speak out at what you like and you'll be very satisfied.
Last I heard from Phuket Hilton was that it was not girl friendly, you get met by staff at all the entrances/shuttle bus stops, though that info is a few years old.
Good luck.
Member 3076,
Normally hotels in Phuket-Patong charge a small fee ranging from Bht300 - 500 (sometimes more depending on how many star) if you bring the girls up to your room.
FlyJets,
Ecellent decision bro. Phuket is paradise and I will be flying there as well later this year.
Cheers,
Ice
Just wondering whether the Holiday Inn on Patong beach is/was girl friendly? I stayed there but never took a girl back. I was in the Busakorn wing (the better part) if that makes a difference.
Thanks
Member 3076
You do not need an escort agency anywhere in Thailand. All you need to do is show up.
3076 - and learn to say "bai tooay mai?" (go togehter?) You will be spending more time saying "mai ow krup" (no thanks) than anyhting else

Thanks for all the input.I appreciate it as I am attending a meeting the last thing I want is to take up girls on my own. It will be quite embarassing :-)
As I reach early morning. Which is the best place to pick up girls for some afternoon session?
As I reach early morning. Which is the best place to pick up girls for some afternoon session?Phuket is short of good afternoon places now (since the sad demise of Valhalla!). There are a few bars on Soi Sea Dragon, near the far end on the north side, which have afternoon shifts and short time rooms. Several pool bars on Soi Bangla now have freelancers working the afternoon, and possibly the beer bars on the south side of Bangla..
Other than that, try the remains of Soi Sea Pearl (Soi Sai Nam Yen near the beach, north side), which occasionally has a few cuties show up for afternoon shift.
Or, you can head over the hill into Phuket Town and try the "delights" of the Siam Hotel!!
If you find any others. let us know!

Simmer,
Holiday inn is not very girl friendly. Even Busakorn not, even if you pay dearly.
You come with a girl first time, they will make a big fuss, call you in the reception room, argue and at the end - if you do not feel too embarrassed about it - they will give you an exeptional agreement that you are allowed one time!
No good for mongering, but otherwise a great hotel.
Try Tara Patong, still OK, girl friendly if you ask them via mail and has nice pool access rooms for reasonable rates.
Good Luck,
Mike
Michi,
Thanks. Methinks you've been in this situation before, or know somebody that has?
I second that for the www.tharapatong.com. The pool rooms are great for night time action. Hit a vendor for some string bikini's at 500-750 baht. Pick you favorite size and just remember the strings are the quick release. I recmmend rooms 1152- 1157 for night action as they arein the darker section of the pool. You might remmind your neighbors to turn off their balcony lites at night as they tend to draw mosquitos!
The new res person is K. Apai info@tharapatongcom with a ref to that name. Menion no joiner fee for night guests. No Problem. Check out the stayu 4 pay three deal of thses days. 10 min from Bangla but quiet at night, best of both worlds.

Just back from nice little sojourn in Phuket and discovered it is now even better!
Seems like the girls are easier/mellower/more available/wider selection than before. Its definitely easier to get a very nice girl these days.
As far as hotels are concerned - BOY - what a selection! I heard that the occupancy rate in Phuket during this low season AFTER the tsunami is approximately 10% only - and as a result, the rates are great!
I would suggest that the best way to enjoy Phuket would be to rent a car straight away at the airport. As soon as you get out of the airport, there will be several car rental guys with placards selling their agency. I've rented from David Car rental a few times and been very satisfied - i.e. Bht 1,000 average for a nice little air conditioned/Automatic Transmission/newer car/jeeps/older cars at even lower price - inclusive of insurance and no mileage charge.
Take the car and explore Phuket at your leisure whilst pricing various hotel choices - from those luxury ones at Laguna (but where I heard that now they've got rooms starting at US$40), to the literal flop houses close by Patong.
There are decent hotels at Surin/Bang Tao and this is the area I usually stay at as I find it very convenient and a very nice balance between the "sunny tropical paradise Phuket" during the day and just a short distance away from Patong at night. Personally I feel that the sort of "sex in the face all day" experience in Patong is just a bit too much for me. Also, this area seems to be where the "stay put/established" expatriates of Phuket stay at. Some rich guy from Hong Kong known as Mr Lan Kwai fong has his multi million $$ house there and it's suppossed to only be slightly smaller than the largest house in Thailand owned by the King. He also have his high class shopping/eating center there. It's close to Laguna, not sleazy at all, and I guess right in the middle between/equidistance to the airport, the night life area of Patong, the Lotus super center, the International school, the Yacht basin.... and has very nice beaches close by. Fact is, I'm thinking of buying a place right around here and have spotted what seems to be a very high class development close by Bang Tao beach selling their 2 bedroom apartments for Bht 4.8 million. A good deal seeing as prices have not come down that much in Phuket even after the Tsunami. We''ll see!
After I've settled in my hotel, I usually then either hit the beaches or go down to Christin's massage during the day - Bht 1,800 - 2,200 for a nice soapy massage and FS - just slightly below the standard in Bangkok but still very acceptable. And yeah, I know you guys are gonna flame me for 'overpaying" BUT that IS the going price at this place and YES I do know that I can get great girls either for ST or LT anywhere from Bht 800 upwards - but hey what the hell - its all laid out properly at this Christin's!
Night time - well, so many nice cheap restaurants and so many great bars all along Patong at the different Sois! One can't help but have a good time in Phuket and I would encourage more of you to head down there and help out these people who are trying to rebuild Phuket. So Y'all come down there OK?

Well said! Phuket is definitely quite fine right now! The Sheraton Laguna is charging just $40 per room, down from $200 + last year! And the girls are very mellow, and hungry for paying customers!
I too like to stay outside Patong, just go in and grab a partner for the night, send her back next day by Tuk tuk.
In travelling around, I stopped often in Kamala, between Patong and Bangtao. Last year it was great, with over 20 bars and a great selection of girls. Those girls seem to have a much less pushy attitude, and are friendlier that their Patong sisters. It got hit very hard by the tsunami, and is still rebuilding, so many of the bars I used to frequentare still in ruins or boarded up. However, there are a suprising number of interesting bars opening. Most have a small selection, but the quality tends to be fairly high.
3 bars have finally reopened on the beach road, with a small selection of lookers, but the major suprise was on the main road. At the south end, Mountain View bar had 6-8 girls of which 3 would do just fine (beware the 2 katoeys!). The middle of the strip had 3 bars on the east side, 2 on the west with again from 3 to 6 lookers in each.
At the north end, the Crazy bar had 15 girls, of which 8-10 were very presentable!
As the quantity is small, every time I went back I saw approx the same number, but the girls were different, depending on who had been barfined that day!
All in all, a very pleasant and much more relaxed alternative to the arm pulling opprtunities in Patong, good for an occasional break from routine. (though I suspect I would be rapidly bored if that was all that was on offer on the island!)

One hotel that is NOT girl friendly is the Baan Sukothai on Bangla Road, I tried to book there from the Airport and they said I would have to pay 1000 baht a night joiner fee even if the room was booked for two people----we should all boycot these hotels and they may have to think again.

Was back in Phuket for the first time in 2 years, and was astonished at the damage in Patong & how it had changed. Was staying in Laguna for a Business thing – not the best spot, but opportunities can always be found.
Night 1 was spent cruising Patong the bars & shaking off the unwanted couples company. Settled on a cutie “Kong” 1500 all night. Got a room at the C&N hotel for 600B and was a bit shy, but got going as the night wore on. Good GF experience. Gave her a generous tip & took a Tuk Tuk at 7am to get me to Laguna Resort for my 8am meeting! Photo in Photo Section.
Night 2 was less enjoyable. Went to Rock Hard as I had enjoyed girls from there before with great attitude & skill. Pulled a right unfriendly one, “Apple”. Poor service & terrible attitude that all appeared when we got to the hotel. Should have left early, but just slept instead. LT 3000B.
Got to Chistin’s massage one afternoon. Fantastic, just as I remembered it. Took Girl No. 5. 2300B for the rub & tub, CBJ, DATY, FS. This is a must do for anyone going to Patong.
Back in Shanghai now, then some fun in Tokyo planned for mid June.
Gotta love Asia!
TAL
I can see that all of my posts on the previous guide no longer exist here, but I will be brief this time.
Stop paying too much for the girls, you are just fucking it all up for everyone else. ST from a bar = $500 and LT is $1000, ST from a GoGo Bar is $500-800 and LT = $1500-2000. Plus you must pay the bar fine $200-500. (All prices are negotiable everywhere and if you don't talk about the price and negotiate it up front, you're just a fucking idiot screwing things up for everyone) ALL prices are down after the tsunami for ALL of the girls because there are almost no customers. This means that the hottest girls at all of the bars, who wouldn't normally even give you a second look, are now agressively competing for customers and willing to lower thier prices (and expectations)
Another thing, avoid ALL of the massage parlors, especially Christin's. $2300+ for 90min! Do you really think this is a good deal? Especially since most of the girls there are NOT that good looking or give great service. It's easy to find day time activity, just politely start up a conversation with the bars girls on the street. Be respectful, as they are not at one of the bars and it is the day time where everyone can see, but if they are bar girls they should all be willing to go with you for $500 ST (no bar fine!) I've had girls stay with me all afternoon (sex 3-4 times) for $500. Of course, I gave them an extra tip or just asked them to stay LT for $1000.
It used to be easy to tell all of the new people to read the fucking forum (rtff), but after the change there isn't that much good info left. Just don't be stupid and pay Western prices. Have fun!

This may be a silly question, but does anyone know if the girls who work at Rio's are "available" ????????

Adjarn,
if I compare the prices today with the ones 20yrs ago not much have happened due to better exchange rates. Exchange rates also reflect the strength of the economy and depend on inflation. Overall prices (cost of living) increased over that period of time, so the absolute increase in prices justify the absolute increase in the girls payment.
I guess during the last 20yrs there had been thousands if not millions of guys overpaying, but that had no effect on the average price. So I do not see your point.
Furthermore, some of these lovely ladies have lost friends or part of their family and I - besides others - do not want to take advantage out of their misery.
Be fair, pay them well and have a good time. I guess you go to Thailand to have fun and not to save money.
[QUOTE=Jimmy Red Cab]This may be a silly question, but does anyone know if the girls who work at Rio's are "available"?[QUOTE]As with anywhere that involves waitresses, some are, some aren't, you just have to ask in a polite way, and judge the answer from her response.
Even the ones with permanent boyfriends could become "available" given the right incentive, but why would anyone want to start jacking up prices when just as good looking girls are in Tai Pan, right across the road, every night?
Traveller,
I respect your opinions and have enjoyed your contributions as well. However, there is still no need to overpay. If you want to overpay a girl just because she happen to be a bar girl in Phuket and there was a tsumani there, then I think you're just going to be taken advantage of. I live in Phuket and I know the girls very well. I know it sucks and I know it's terrible to say, but the truth is, the tsunami is just one more way to scam the foreingers out of more money. Yes, they may have lost some friends, and perhaps some family (if their sister/mother/cousin was also working as a bar girl, since Phuket girls won't work in Patong), but if the girl is currently working in the bars, then she was probably not harmed in any way. The girls who were really freaked out by what happened have all left Phuket for Pattaya or elsewhere. It was no doubt a very scary experience for everyone. I lost a lot friends too. Girls work in the bars for a variety of reasons, and they also have a variety of "stories" to tell customers so that they take pity on them and give them more money.
Unfortunately, many of the stories are true, but many are not. Again, I don't want to sound like an asshole for saying any of this, but the purpose of this forum is the help others and to educate newbies. There is no doubt that the bar girls in Phuket will be using the tsunami to get simpathy (extra cash) from customers, even if they weren't in Phuket when it happened. -this is coming directly from the girls mouths. P4P girls will ALWAYS accept extra money for their services. Perhaps I was too stern with my previous post. Just pay the standard wherever you are. If you were in BKK or Pattaya, would you give the girls $1000 over the standard? I hope not.
Enjoy,
Adjarn
If you were in BKK or Pattaya, would you give the girls $1000 over the standard?Sure I do, all the time. I have a good job (outside Thailand) and 1000bath is not much for me. I think 1000bath for LT for a night of great sex with a beautiful bar girl is basically for free. If I had a good time I'm very happy to give a 1000bath tip. If not I will kick her out before the night is over.
Back home in Europe I used to pay 50 euro (2500bath) for a 15 min. quick one with a not so nice girl. So a full night with a stunner for 2000 bath is still a steal.
And don't tell me I'm "screwing it up" for others. A few guys paying good tips won't drive up prices. Too many cheap Charlies around for that ;-)
why debate the price someone else pays...It is after all a subjective quantity from both parties involved in the negotiations.
I understand that some might feel that if too many punters pay too high a 'tariff' that the overall price will be driven up.
I do not feel that this is a logical argument.
If a 'buyer' sets his mind to making a 'purchase' for only X00 bath he can find a 'seller'. If a 'seller' sets her 'price' at X000 baht she can find a 'buyer'.
This is how it is. There are too many factors to consider to begin any accurate measure of price fixing.
The important thing is if you enjoyed yourself. Who can put a price on that?

I pay what I feel is appropriate at the time, no one can say what the maximum should be because of the varying quality of the girls. Suppose a real little stunner asks you for 3000 LT, you can try to bid her down but if she refuses to budge you have to pay it---or lose her to someone who will.
And don't tell me I'm "screwing it up" for others. A few guys paying good tips won't drive up prices. How about; "You're wasting your hard earned money;)...."

Adjarn,
don't worry, I got your comment ther right way.
All I say is, that nobody should pay less than the going rates just because the tsunami led to fewer customers. I always pay on performance, no matter if I could get away with less. I also find this bargaining that so many guys talk about very disturbing. It kills my mood.
Within over 20yrs in Thailand I was only asked by a handful of girls how much I will pay them. I never tell them in advance because I don't know. So my answer usually goes like "if you are cheap to me, I will be cheap to you as well, but if you are generous, I will be generous too".
I usually get a smile and no talk about money anymore. I understand why they want to know, a lot of cheap charlies around but the girls are often experienced enough to see what kind of person you are.
Only once a girl insisted to fix the price beforehand. She was stunning but my answer was that she gets no money at all. She hadn't expected an answer like that so I explained her that she gets no money because I won't take her. I only take girls that do like me and not just go for the money - or at least make me feel like that.
JRC - maybe... but IF the traffic is 2000, and she wants 3000, she might sleep alone. It used to be that they referred to some of the areas as "soi-ha-loi-baht" after 2AM (500 bhat street) for OBVIOUS reasons. Pay what you NEED to pay to get the QUALITY you WANT (myself, I'm "cheap charlie" - hasn't diminished the quantity)

Dinghy,
In my limited experience, 8 visits since Jan 2001, I find that by 2 am there are very few stunners available, they have all been taken---by guys who are willing to pay them a generous fee. Some guys prefer to pay 500 baht for a girl who looks like she has been hit in the face with a wok, each to his own.
o...or too boring...I challenge anyone in Phuket to visit Phukettown's fabulous row Thanon Poonpon Soi 11. Known to everyone as 'Soi Sipet'. Post a report I would just love to hear about it.
ummm, not for the faint of heart.....
Hey Guys,
First time to phuket staying at karon hilton. Is the hotel GFriendly?
What are the cheap hotels at Patong?
Whats the best SW time and place in Phuket? Is PHUKET cheaper than BKK with the same quality? whats the going price range Lt and ST?
Any russians/white/cis girls in the area?

ummm, not for the faint of heart.Fine place if you like shack brothel shagging, similar to Cambodia without the pigs under the floorboards!
Many of these girls have been "purchased" from their parents in the North, Chiang Mai region in particular, and have to work until they pay off their "debt". All look very sorry for themselves. Definitely do not walk down Soi Sipet with gold rings and bracelets on, expensive watches or a full wallet, or there will be a different report posted!
Some years ago, the equivalent of Soi 11 was across the road from Jammin' bar. Some girls there decided that they could not carry on with the beatings, abuse and services required, and would rather die than continue. When they ran away to the police, they were returned! So they agreed that they would rather die than continue their sorry existence, and started a fire in the building. As the exit doors were locked, and many girls were shackled, most died in the blaze. Noone was held to account. The owners simply moved to Soi Sipet and carried on business as usual.
So, if you do go, be aware of what you are supporting.
Went to Phuket on June 8-16. We had a blast! There was some noticeable damage on the coastal areas however, the night life and girls were fine. I was there in Oct 04 and I could not tell a difference in the talent or the attitude of the girls, both were great. All the soi's off Bangla Road were at normal operating procedures. I prefer soi sea dragon because it is open on both ends. It was hot as hell and the extra breeze was perfect. Every day was the same. Beach in the morning to look at the hunnies, back to shower, drinks on Bangla at the beer bars talking to all the beer bar girls while waiting for Banana disco to open. Banana has the hottest girls in Phuket in my opinion. They do not allow lady boys to enter the club so it also eliminates some of that treachery. It is open until 2 AM. All the girls there were working. At first glance you think they are not and your in a dance club in the States or Europe. But, have no fear they are all working. We would grab girls then head to Tiger or Tia Pan discos both open until 4 am and full of talent looking to get busy. We all pulled different girls every night. We would drag the girls through this ritual every night even if we met them early in the evening. We forced them to endure mass quantities of drinking and watching us get attacked from all of the competition 4AM. After 4 AM there is an after hours club called Safari Bar. Out doors and lots of craziness. Open till sunrise. Then we would head back to our hotel CLUB BAMBOO Patong beach. Drunk as hell and bringing a new girl back to the room. I had a penthouse for $68. Large Jacuzzi and large balcony to hit the girls doggy style and watch the sun come up. The hotel was girl friendly and also had rooms and suites for $30 which were nice also. We all pulled pussy from every venue offered in Phuket and all of us were satisfied. We called it our TSUNAMI relief tour. We donated all our money in beer, food and *****s and felt great about doing our duty. If you have any fears I am here to tell you Phuket is as good as ever. Peace out.
Hi guys,
I'm looking for a hotel that is girl friendly, has a nice pool and big rooms. I haven't been to Phuket but I think I don't want to stay in Patpong, close by would be nice. I'm thinking around 1000.bht a night. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Raul
Raul - I think you mean PATONG (It is a long long way to Phuket from PATPONG - and I probably wouldn't want to stay in PATPONG either)
OK Flyjets, you just convinced me, I'm going back this November. I left there 30 days before the tragedy and have been hesitant to go back as I am somewhat afraid of being disappointed. But you are right in your excellent report that we should launch our own grass roots relief tour. By grass roots I mean being there in person to make sure the money gets to the right folks, the hookers, bar girls/owners, hotel girls (god bless them), etc. Never trust the pols to put money anywhere but in their greedy pockets. Right on, Flyjets!, see you there!...ldp
Hello,
I have a voucher for the above located on the beach front of Nai Yang next to the National Park that overlooks the white sands of beautiful Nai Yang beach.
I am planing to stay there for 4 days. Thinking of bringing my girl from BKK over. Are they girl friendly?
If I go alone, do you think they will stop me from bringing girls in?

Last year when I was here, the going rates seemed to be 1000ST/1500LT. The girls who would go for less weren't worth taking. This year, I Walk down Soi Eric and the good lookin' girls seem to think that 1500Bt for ST is reasonable. Shocking and I ain't paying it.
The girls I have pulled from Bangla in general have pretty much been lousy lays too. I could have more fun shagging a wet sponge. One girl tried to convince me that doing the deed once before midnight, going to sleep, and then leaving at 7am should count for LT.
I dunno. The beer sois seem like a real drag this year. Pretty much empty at night and the energy just don't seem to be there. Its sad really. If more people would come and tourism numbers got back up, I bet it would be grand again.
The TSUNAMI RELIEF TOUR sounds like a great idea. Please, come one and all.
I ain't much of a disco guy myself but the times I have spent at Tai Pan and Tiger have also been kind of a drag. I think its a weird feeling.
Maybe its me. I am getting too old and paunchy. Jesus Christ I am only 31.
Mr. Dick Hackman,
I am truly sorry to hear that you have been so disappointed by Patong. However, my friends that traveled with me last month all have great things to say about the area. Call us crazy; but we had none stop fun in all the discos ….from banana, tiger, Tai pan and the others. It is a tourist area so the cheese oozes from all aspects of the location, but that is half of the fun. If you live there I can see your dilemma. If you’re visiting 1500 baht is a target that seems like fair market value. I am not a Thailand national but we visit 2 or 3 times a year and have been doing such for 18 years. I work and live in South America and it is a welcome change to what we have to deal with and the prices for tourists seem to be just fine for a traveler. That’s my 2 cents. Peace out, and for those of you who want to visit (not nationals) go for it. They need your pesos, dollars, yen, euros and pounds.
Peace out.

Hi guys,
after a long period of very busy work, I'm finally back in Patong for a while.
I will stay in Patong Resort as usual.
Anyone would like to join me for drink and some chat please message me.
Happy mongering to evryone.........
Hi mates,
I'll be in Patong last weekend this month, just for a weekend-trip.
How's the performance in low season in general?
And especially Soi corocodile? Sweet "ladies" there?
:-)
Cheers!
Hey Guys,
I have made many trips to Bangkok and Pattaya. This will be my first trip to Phuket and Patong Beach. I am bring my teenage sons with me. I thought I would break them in in Phuket instead of Pattaya. Don't really want them to see the best at first .
Ok, I have a few questions. Where is the best place to stay with teenage boys, 17 and 19? Yes, I am getting each there own room. Must be girl friendly at least for me. Will I have any trouble getting them into disco's or bars?
Do you guys think I am making a mistake? I have been married 2 times and divorced 2 times. I think if somebody had taken me to Thailand when I was a teenager that I would have at least waited fora few years before I first got married.
I hope you guys feel the same.
Thanks,
Garfield
Garf888,
Teenage males are not likely to find mongering in Thailand so great. The easy find of willing young females is very attractive to us more mature men, but to them any disco in Farangland looks like that. Odds are even in a Thai disco, they will be attracted far more by Farang girls their age.
The same goes with the more fundamental attraction of GFE with a TG. You can only appreciate the sweetness and delight of that after years of rejection and bitching by Farang women. And the huge thrill of having sex with a lady half your age is lost on you until you reach your forties :).
Frankly, I do not believe it is such a great idea to take your 2 teenage boys on a mongering trip. If you want to do a father-son thing, take them to a fishing trip, or golfing or something.
And do you really want your sons see their father mongering with low-life Thai prostitutes? Why don't you let your boys live their own lives?
It might sound odd in this forum, but I also find it a little weird to bring teenage kids to a mongering place. Are they virgins? If so I think it is a little unfair to force them into sex. Paying for sex is not everybody's choice - if they want to, then fair enough, but don't coerce them into doing so. At that age they ought to be able to find girlfriends in the normal way.
But we don't know your sons and can't make fully judged statements. You know them, you know the scene, and it's up to you what you do. We can only make suggestions give opinions based on the facts given.

Garf888,
my father did the same, he invited me to Thailand at the age of 17. He said that every father once had to go to a brothel with his son and that Pattaya is the biggest brothel in the world.
It did no harm to me but not all people are the same. To be honest, I wouldn't do that before they turn 25 or so. I think it is best that they have the occasion to get some experience with the girls back home and are able to compare. It might be too much for them at that age and they should be more mature in my opinion.
I have also seen many guys who got addicted to LOS, the easy life and the cheap girls. They weren't able to build up relationships anymore and were only focussed to get back to Thailand, not on their career or what other goal anybody might have. In short, they ruined their future for a few years in LOS.
Besides, aren't you worried about any diseases, especially HIV ?
Sure, they will know that they should use a condom, but they might be too excited, break them (fingernails) or whatever. When I came to Thailand the first time HIV was no issue, but nowadays I wouldn't dare to put my beloved ones at risk.
My advice : Don't bring them to Thailand for mongering !
Avoid the usual sex scenes, Thailand has much more to provide than just the girls, it's a beautiful country with good food and nice people.

Seydlitz,
Very well said. I'm in my fifties now, but was lucky enough to first visit LOS as an eighteen year old (Hippie backpacker, not military) and what you say is true to my experience. I slept with a different TG every night, but in all honesty it wasn't that big a thrill because I could do the same at home with girls I had a lot more in common with.
It wasn't really until my late twenties, early thirties, a divorce, and a lot of subsequent trips to asia that I began to really appreciate what the charms of the Thai mongering scene were for me.
You're so right, a teenage male can have a good time in Thailand, but he won't savor the experience until he's been knocked around a bit by farang women; and yes, that half the age thing is good too.
Cheers,
Sean
Garfield,
I was in Phuket with my nephews last month (JUNE). They are 18 and 21. They loved it! I went to Thailand at 18 with the United States Marine Corps. I adjusted just fine after that. I had slayed girls before that and continued in my College frat and through my adult life. I adjusted well and have adapted my craft to work well in all atmospheres. From all the major cities in the US to most of EU and most of Asia. You just have to know the rules of the game. If they are well adjusted men they will roll with the program and whatever it has to offer. If it is pay for play so be it. If it is suave, dashing, courteous and coultured so be it. They can and will adjust if you teach them the value of the game. In the US it is, who looks the best or whom talks the talk and walks the walk. Confidence is all it takes to walk the walk. We all had to start on the fat chick or the local **** to build our confidence, self-assurance and poise. That is part of the game. However, If they are virgins and are afriad of girls i might say no. However, My nephews are animals and rolled with the program and grabbed what they could. They are both back at College now and slamming all that an 18 and 21 year old can. So if you have the option take their uncle to introduce them to the game. If they do not have one; I am for rent and will expose them to the delights of Thailand. Peace out.

I just want to thank everybody so much. I am not bringing them here to monger. If I was going to do that I would take them to Pattaya. Yes, we will play golf, ride gocarts, go diving and ect. I am just saying that if they do meet some honeys and have a good time that is also ok.
My company is flying my kids here to meet me. I have not been able to get back to the USA to see them this summer. So I agreed to stay here working till October. I just want them to experiance the culture, the food. Just the all around friendliness of these people. I am sure they will love it.
I just don't want you guys to think I would push anything like that on them.
Smile,
Garfield
I know we're supposed to be talking about Phuket pussy here, but I had a quick story to add, since the topic seems to be about bringing the young ones to the bars.
Last summer I was hanging out in the Tiger Bar Complex and I saw this kid sitting at the bar drinking a Heiniken. when I say kid, I mean at most he could have been 10 years old. Sipping on the beer like it was a big ole teet from his mother. At first, I just kind of watched him for a few seconds. Then I noticed that there is a fucking hot girl sitting next to him who seems to be chatting with him. Now let me clarify something. This girl was by far the hottest, sexiest girl I have ever seen in any of the bars, go go's, discos, etc. in Phuket, and I've been living her for years. On a scale of 1-10, this girl was a 50. I mean this girl looked about 18 and had the most beautiful body all packaged up in some extremely sexy clothes. Great skin, long brown hair with just enough highlighting, and again an amazing body. So again, I'm looking around trying to see what's what. Well, of course I'm not going to let this vision, this goddess out of my sight, or out of my bed if i can help it, so I get up and walk over to her and talk with her. I asked her if she knew who this kid was, and she smiled and said "yes, he's my little brother". Just then, the girl sitting next to the one I was talking to turned around and joined in our conversation. This second girl, was also amazing looking in every possible way (including silicon breasts) and on a scale of 1-10, she could easily get a 20. Unfortunately for me, this second girl/woman turned out to be the mother of both of them, and her American husband was also sitting there with them. (Lucky bastard) I'm just glad I wasn't an idiot with the daugher. When I told them I was concerned that the boy was here alone, they said thank you for my interests, but I could see that they didn't seem to have a problem with him getting drunk on their family vacation.
I'll tell you all, if any of us are lucky enough to have a wife that looks like that after having two kids, you'll be the luckiest guy in the world. Or I suppose the guy who ends up with the daughter. I don't envy the father though, I can only imagine just how many guys are after his daughter.

Garfield,
a wise decision.
If it will happen, let it happen but don't force it.
Don't forget to remind your boys to protect themselves and to avoid risky techniques (DATY, fingering etc.)
Good luck
Don't forget to remind your boys to protect themselves and to avoid risky techniques (DATY, fingering etc.)Huh? Fingering risky? Since when? And for what meaning risky? If you refer to any kind of STD, so I think fingering isn't risky at all. No virus or bacterium is able to pass through "normal" skin we have at the fingers. They need thin mucous membrane.
Considering all, then the most risky thing while visiting Patong is the minibus ride to/from the Airport.
Cheers!
Not to dispute you, Ekspat, but truth be known - syph can and will transmit thru "simple" contact - in fact, dermatologists used to be a "prime target" (days before rubber gloving everything). Go look it up if you wish. Many of the old photos of ulcerative syph were taken of dermatologists (now, I'm talking before penicillin, but it DID happen) HIV needs moisture to remain viable (or so it has been reported) and won't transmit thru unbroken skin. GC (diplococcus - clap) is a pretty BIG item and needs mositure as well to survive and it won't pass unbroken skin either.

Ekspat,
everybody will most likely have microscopic small injuries at their fingers. Guess you cut the skin at your fingernails from time to time or you touch sharp items. I have even cut my fingers at paper without even recognizing it. No need for a mucous membrane (who told you that nonsense ?), blood to blood contact is the way it is transmitted.
HIV or Hepatitis might be transmitted that way, just to name two of the worst.
The girl might be - for what reason ever - bleeding without you and her knowing. Would you like to have unprotected contact with some of her blood ?
Or to phrase it in a different way : Would you dare to touch a HIV positive blood sample without gloves ?

The fuck is a 10 year old doing in a bar in the 1st place? I dont know maybe I am ignorant, but I did not see any kids bars while I was in LOS...this isn't be common..or is it?
No need for a mucous membrane (who told you that nonsense ?), blood to blood contact is the way it is transmitted.Hi TT,
Yes, it is one way to be transmitted and probably the best, but not the only one. Don't remember who told me the nonsense.
Dinghy, the thing about syph is good to know. Have to say I wasn't aware of it. But I will not put on rubber gloves for fingering, sorry. No way.
Anyway, going off to Jakarta now and likely to have a relaxing weekend. Guys, have a wonderful weekend as well.

Hey,
I just wanted to remind everyone again about one of the scams going on in Phuket. It's been going on for a while, even after the tsunami, and yes, even in low season.
The scam is this, if you are an experienced punter, you will probably negotiate the price up front before you take a girl from a bar. (ST=$500, LT$1000, plus bar fine). Once the girl knows that you are experienced, she agrees to go with you LT after you pay the bar. Back in the room everything is fine until after you finish doing the girl the first time. Then, she will either make up some excuse to leave (ex. my roomate doesn't have a key to our house, etc) or she will just say that she only wants to do ST.
Now this isn't always the case, and it's only happened to me once last summer, but many of the girls have told me this is common when they know we know what we're doing. The reasons they gave me is this: If the guy doesn't know what he's doing, he'll either pay a lot more money, or he'll be satisfied with just 2 pops, one at night and another in the morning. In addition, the girls are interested in making more money. If they ST with you, then they can go back to the bar, or disco, and hook up with someone else for a LT, increasing their earned money by at least $500. PLUS, many of the bars actually give the girls a percentage of the bar fines, so two bar fines are better than one.
The solution is this, and may seem harse to some of you, but you should NOT pay the girl. Instead, tell her that the two of you agreed on LT and that is why you bar fined her. Tell her that she's a liar and trying to rip you off. Tell her that you already paid the bar for her ($300-500) and that's all ST is worth. Plus, you don't want to have to leave to go out and find another girl, AND you don't want to have to pay another bar fine, again $300-500.
Of course, the girl will put on a show of being angry and demanding payment, but stand your ground and just kick her out. Don't worry if she threatens you that she's going to tell people and you'll never be able to go out to the bars again, money talks and BS walks, so send her walking. Don't let her stay at this point. However, never ever ever use physical force on the girl or you'll end up in the police station.
Tell all your friends about the scam.
In my case last year, I was so disappointed. I had heard about the scam before and not expecting it since I talked with my girl for a long time about staying LT. In fact, this girl was the perfect type of girl for me in every way. If she didn't pull the scam with me, I would have kept her for a very very long time and she would have made a lot of money. The one time we had sex amazing, and I'm sure I even made her cum twice. I would have loved to have spent more time with this girl. Even still, she was only after the bigger payoff. If it happens to you, don't get taken off guard, and don't take it personally.

I've heard of this kind of scam before. I've never seen it. Actually, I've had the opposite problem. Often -- more often then the scam happens I'm sure -- the girl will want to spend the night even after negotiating short time beforehand. It's a a very nice ego boost having to damn near force them out the door when you are ready for them to leave.
Either way, be sure to get what you agreed upon, which should be the same as what you wanted. Otherwise you are just wasting time. When you are looking for guidence, remember what Dalton - Road House had to say:
All you have to do is follow three simple rules. One, never underestimate your (bargirl). Expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar (or the hotel room) unless it's absolutely necessary. And three, be nice ... until it's time to not be nice.
Adjarn,
A girl I was with, I picked her up in Patong and took her to my room in PhuketTown, had to call someone. This was before the days of cellphones, so we went outside and, guess what, uncle was ill and she needed to go to Buriram immediately (in the middle of the night...)
I told her she could go anytime, but I would only pay in the morning after I cashed a check. It was before the days of ATMs as well.
She stayed and never talked about uncle again. I paid her the next morning after I dropped her off at her bar in Patong.
We had one more pleasant night together. Neither of us mentioned uncle...
BTW The girls in Hua Hin do the same thing almost everytime.
It is much better to talk of ST only and set a price accordingly. Some will go, some will stay for a little extra (your terms apply) or even for free.
It's a business deal: Stick with the contract.
Hey guys,
What's up with Christine's Massage these days? This will be my 1st time to go there. Do you recommend it?
How much is it? How's the selection of girls, 1-10?
And what are the rates for renting a car like?
Thanks.
It's a total rip off place, run by the Thai-Chinese mofia, over-priced, and with low quality. You can find girls everywhere that will ST with you for $500-$800 for 1-3 pops.

I only been there 3 times. The girl quality is only 6-7 at best. The cost is more than
Pattaya, 2000 baht I think. It's better to get girl from bar 1500 - 2000 all nite.
In town there are 2 massages. One is by Ocean Mall. 1800 baht. Girl is better
than Christine not as good as Bangkok.
Everything cost high in Phuket, twice the cost than Pattaya, but beach is
beautiful, so is the scuba diving. Car renting is 20 USd a day and 30 for a jeep a day Not cheap.

What's the quality of the girls, 1-10? Recommend it over Christines?

Day 1: After having unpacked my luggage, I rush to the beach in the late afternoon. While I’m swimming, I spot a girl picking up some small kind of seafood in the wet sand. She has the kind of slim body I like and a nice face. I approach her and she tells me she works in a Bar in Bangla road. Ok, I tell her I will see her tonight. At night I go to Bangla road and it seems the girls are starving for customers at this time of the year. Very few beautiful girls around though. The overall quality is rather low. After some exploration, I find the Bar and the girl I saw on the beach. The girls all rush to me to get lady drinks and I offer them a few drinks. Gosh! It’s so expensive in Phuket, 120 THB per drink! That’s a mistake I will not make again! The girl who looked quite normal on the beach, looks now like a ***** with her make-up and sexy clothes! She’s kind but a little rough: typical unsophisticated country girl. I think OK, some animal charm can also be welcomed sometimes. I pay her barfine and we go dancing in Tiger disco. It’s a big disco but really only get crowded from 12 pm. Entrance is 100 THB and you get a drink ticket. Wow! This girl has a way of dancing that is quite arousing and we had a lot of fun. We spend the rest of the night in my room. Good sessions with BJ. The girl is supposed to be wet but I suspect she puts some saliva up it to make believe she’s wet!
Day 2: I want to try other girls and I’m fed up with paying lady drinks, so I go to Banana disco. It also only gets crowded from 12 pm, but closes at 2 am. Entrance is 300 THB with 2 drink tickets. Lots of P4P girls, but also many young tourist who go there only for fun. I end up picking up a nice girl with a “Brigitte Bardo” style of mouth. Back to my room, I find out she’s no so young, but still has a nice body. It’s incredible how fresh she is for 29 y.o. She’s really eager to do a good job and provides a good and exciting service.
Day 3: I go to Banana and spot a girl I like. Unfortunately, she is with her sister and I understand they only go with men if they find 2 men who are together. Which they did shortly after I approached her. So around 1 am I go to Tiger disco. There I spot two sisters and I like the younger one, who is 19. I talk with her sister because the young one does not speak English. She explains to me her sister wants money (how surprising!), and she wants 500 for short time! She does only short time because she does not speak English. I succeed in convincing her to spend the whole night with me. Wow! She has such a nice young body with firm tits and sweet skin. Totally GFE, wet pussy, and enjoying it so much. My best experience in Phuket. For some unknown reason I never saw her again.
Day 4: I go to Tiger disco to see her again. After some time, I get approached by a girl who seemed pretty and not stupid. As it is now evident that I will not find the girl from yesterday, we have a drink together and she takes me to a near Bar called Bahia Beach. It’s supposed to be a French place and it’s packed with people after 12 pm. The advantage of this place is that it’s not too dark, so you can better see the girls and avoid the disappointment you sometime have when you see the girl you picked up in full light. In fact, I find out the girl is maybe not so pretty, and moreover I don’t have a good feeling. She’s either very tired or more likely on drug, so I leave her. I rush toward a beautiful girl I spotted, but strangely, it seems she’s not here to find a customer. Too late, the other beautiful girls are already picked up. Anyway, it’s closing time and I go out, wondering if I would go to another place called Safari or go to sleep. Walking outside, I come across the girl I met the first day. Wow! She’s really sexy. Of course, she’s very happy to see me again and we go together. She gave me a super sex experience and it seems she enjoyed it.
Day 5: I go again to Banana, as this place gets crowded a little earlier than the others. I talk again with the girl I saw there on Day 3. But she’s again with her sister and I’m alone, so they go with 2 guys as last time. How hopeless! As it’s my last day in Phuket and I don’t want to stay too late, I go to pick up the Bar girl from yesterday. She’s even more happy to see me and gives me a passionate treatment. Of course she’s not so happy in the morning when I tell her I go.
That's it!
I just came back from Patong!
Its horrible rip off place. Everything is over charged, overrun with Indians since the Tsunami, who constantly bait you to buy over-charged copy goods. Very few girl-friendly hotels from what I heard speaking to other guys out there. My hotel was 700 baht to take a girl back!
I would recomend to anybody use Pattaya, BKK or Issan and save vast amounts of money & get far better looking girls @ half the price!
Hi all. Been reading the forum for a long time now and it's provided a lot of useful info. Just wondering what your opinion is. Is it best to head to Phuket or Pattaya at this time (next week)? I've been to Phuket in the past but that was before the events of last December. It was great then but now I'm reading mixed reports. Never been to Pattaya. Either way I'd like to avoid an area if the military's in town.
Thanks guys!
I just came back from Patong!
Its horrible rip off place. Everything is over charged, overrun with Indians since the Tsunami, who constantly bait you to buy over-charged copy goods.
I guess the receding waves of the Tsunami brought the Indians in Madras to Patong.
Get a life Patterson. When you go to any tourist place it is always a ripoff. Learn to live the life of a tourist, otherwise you aren't getting the joys of travel. You only get ripped off if you allow yourself to be.
Having been to Thailand several times this was by far my worst experience!
It was a horrible time all hotels were NOT GF & would never go again Pattaya, BKK, Samui, Chiang Mai all 1000x better!
The beer was over priced the girls were over priced not a nice place at all!
If I wanted to be hounded by Indians i would have gone to New Delhi again?
Yes you only get ripped off if you let it happen but to be badgered everyday & night was NOT fun for me & I would say Pattaya possible 35 girls to everyone in Patong & a third off the price so not to be ripped off again I will not be going ;)
One mans meat is the other one's poison.
Once I had planned to go Pattaya for 5 days. After 3 days I stopped it and rushed back to BKK. Sorry, never again Pattaya.
Sometimes Phuket, yes, since I have a direct flight into the island. Just 2 weeks back I've been there for a weekend and had a very good time. Of course I pay more than the locals, so what? Thats all over Asia the case and a pure tourist area is always relatively overpriced, but it seems (and is) still dirtcheap in the eyes of the tourists from Europe or US.
Anyway, I travel to Thailand only if I can't get a flight elsewhere. It isn't my preferred country. But all a matter of taste and preferences. Some love Phuket, some Pattaya, some Bali, some Greenland.
Cheers!
Ekspat,
Yeh i agree one mans food etc !!! I have had bad times all over the world anybody who travels regular knows it aint always sunshine & lollypops ;)
But I felt the last trip to Patong was one off if not the worse time anywhere along with the group i travelled with could not wait to get back to BKK! Also everybody we spoke to in bars etc also were giving it the thumbs down.
I first went to Patong in 1990 & first travelled to Thailand in 1987 & can say without a shadow of a doubt worst time ever in the land of smiles & would not travel to Phuket free :P The hassle from the Indians touting there goods was a constant pain in the arse along with watching them spitting everywhere & scurrying about like rats morning noon & night narrrrrrrrrr mate give me Pattaya or bkk everyday!
I'm surprised by recent postings complaining about Phuket- it beats Pattaya for me everytime. I'm surprised to hear that hotels there are charging for girls to stay. I make sure with EVERY hotel i stay in Thailand by emailing or faxing them before I arrive and stating that I have a guest visiting me during my stay and making sure there is no surcharge- i then keep their reply saying there is no charge with me- that way when a late night security guard or receptionist is on the make I show them the written confirmation when they demand money. I know this procedure might sound time consuming but it works every time.
In my humble opinion:
Pattaya is great for a weekend to get you out of the city, but for more than a few days it can drive you mad. Its a pretty ugly place and can attract a lot of very low-end package holiday tourists.
Phuket by comparison is absolutely beautiful, the pace is a lot more mellow and the overall level is visitor is higher.
Yes, you will pay more in Phuket, but you get what you pay for.
And as for GF friendly hotels, there are plenty. I stay in a great little place up on the hill for 800 Baht a night and the people there are as cool as you like.
In summary: Pattaya for a mad weekend of serious bad behaviour. Phuket for a mellow week or so and a few cheeky babes.
Good luck.
That's it!Was in Phuket August/05 and agree totally with your post. Special if you ring the bell at the beer-bars, wich means one drink for every one, it is expensive. Usually i have paid between 1500-4000 Baht / per night bill at beer-bars (but I usually have not to pay barfine with that bill).
When I changed girl it happens that i get a phone call in the hotel, girls from night before asking me to come back to their bar.
I found out that most girls from beer-bar go at 2 a.m. closing hour, to tai-pan disco, where you can pick them up without the hassle at beer-bar.
Tiger a gogo was very nice, the girls are not so pushing for drinks.
Pattaya is alright for mongers and has some nice hotels. The majority of males people going to this city want an economical monger holiday by the beach with a large quanity of girls. I never used the beach area for good reason, but that was not my primary purpose for going to this destination.
Anyone whose goals are different than above should go to Phuket for the holiday. IMHO
Phuket and Pattaya, very different places, comparison is quite difficult, it just all depends on what you are after.
In Phuket you can have the whole package, at a slightly dearer price, beach, sea, chill out, nightlife and so forth.
But if you are a bit choosy, and you do get choosy after a while in these places, the variety of girls and any kind of entertainments Pattaya can offer is in my opinion unheard of anywhere else in the globe and prices are definitely competitive.
All in all, though, the kind of life you have in Pattaya is far from relaxing and you don’t have any motivation whatsoever to get up at a decent hour to go to the sea because there simply is no sea as we know it, and most likely the night before you were not able to get home at a decent hour either because it’s just so much fun to have a ball in this place. Phuket for me still remains the pearl of the Andaman and probably the best compromise.
Can anyone recommend any good girl-friendly hotels / bungalows / guesthouses in Patong? I remember paying about 300-400 baht per night in Koh Samui. I'd like to pay around that in Patong, if possible. I'll be in town in about two weeks (rainy season).

Pattaya is an Adult Disneyland. Simple as that. Bars everywhere and girls in all ages and sexes. Shoddy beach but hotels have a working swimmingpool. It is very simple to score a pretty plaything but I must be rather useless at it. A much higher percentage of the girls in Pattaya were starfishes compared to Phuket.
Phuket is a much nicer place to spend an vacation. Beaches is better and nicer diving sites. There is plenty of P4P here too but a bit more expensive. And not that many starfishes, IMHO. The scene isn't as advanced as Pattaya so if you are into serious mongreling, looking for more advance experiences, pick Pattaya.
See Phuket as a nice place to spice up the vacation with some nice beerbars, some P4P. If the main reason for visiting is slick, slippery thai poon, then select Pattaya.
During my 15 trips to LOS, I have found that I get the quantity I want in Pattaya, but the quality I did get in Phuket. But times are changing.

Although that is a bit on the cheap side for phuket you may get close in some areas of Patong. I can recommend the Siam Guest House in Soi San Sabai (adjacent to junction with Soi Bangla) Thai run by a great guy called Tuy. Totally girl friendly, a back room will cost about 4-500 and a good front room about 6-800.
PM me if you want his phone number or email.
I just got back from Thailand a couple of weeks ago.
I went to both Pattaya (twice) and Phuket (Patong).
I noticed no price difference at all between the two.
Maybe it's because it's low season post-tsunami but I paid about 700 baht per day for a nice (guest friendly) hotel with air con, sat tv and a swimming pool in both places and I never paid a girl more than 1000 baht for all night and most of the next afternoon.
Prices were always agreed in advance.
One or two asked for more (1500-2000) but they were just being greedy and, as there was so much choice, there was no reason for me to agree to anything more than 1000.
I paid 600-700 if it was short time.
The difference is that Pattaya is more hustle and bustle than Patong and is more spread out geographically with more choice but not necessarily more quality.
As the ratio of customers to girls was so favourable for me in Patong I didn't pay bar fines.
I just drank with the girls until 2am and then, when the bar closed, arranged to meet them either at Tiger disco (before going to my place) or just to come to meet me at my hotel.
Had a great time in both places but I can imagine high season might be more packed and not so relaxing.

Hi, I'm trying to find a nice place near Patong Beach for early November, in the $50 - $75/night range. I'm thinking about Thara Patong, the Burasari, and the Banthai Beach Resort. I can't find any girl-friendliness info on these, or any other places. And I'm finding that most of the info I can find about Patong hotels in general is somewhat obsolete post-Tsunami. I'd appreciate any info.

Cost at height of season is 1500 bahts i think- good site for Phuket hotels with reviews is www.sawadee.com

I am looking for a good hotel (4 or 5 star -- maybe 3) that is close to the beach and walking distance to Soi Bangla. The hotel must allow guests. I like to stay in suites or large deluxe rooms.

I stayed at the Banthai Beach Resort in June 2004, NOT girl friendly, 500 baht joiner fee and security guards everywhere, no chance of smuggling a girl in. Apart from that it is quite a nice hotel, good location, 5 mintes from Bangla Road.
Thanks for the update on prices and the Interesting tip about avoiding barfines Rolledup! I'm going to Thailand for first time ever, leaving a week from now. Planning to go to Bangkok, Phuket and probably Pattaya too. Looking forward to it! :-)

Hi Rolledup,
Can you provide the name of the Patong hotel (and location) you stayed in.
I will be there next month and am keen to use a hotel that does not charge extra if you bring a girl or two back. Some day I might take three different girls at different times, so the charges rack up if the hotel charges joiner fee.
Thanks
Nobbin.

My experience booking a room is that the rates in November are at least double what they are through October, and there are far fewer vacancies in November on as well. It would be easy to find a nice place in October for under 1000 Baht per night, all inclusive in good locations. In November, all the nice places in Patong are at least 1600 Baht, with most above 2000 a night. In any case, the place I booked was the Deevana Patong Resort. I could not find any girl-friendliness info about it. The only place I KNEW to be girl-friendly was the Jintana, and I was looking for something more upscale than that.
Hopefully, the Deevana is Girl-friendly, because otherwise, it appears quite nice for around $50-60 night in high season in November.

I am new to forum, but not t Asia and Thailand. Hope I can help with my latest experience. Just finishing a wonderful two weeks at Summer Breeze Hotel in Patong. It is my 10th stay there over the past five years. It is very clean, inexpensive, GF, and has a super staff. Also important to me, has room safe. It is only about 250 yards from hotel to middle of Soi Bangla. Easy walk even when quite incoherent. Night man is terrific (Somsak), and can always sort things out for you. Am already booking another trip to Summer Breeze in March. For me, the only place to stay.
Okay, so I'm staying in Patong at the moment. Gorgeous, it has rained only once in the past week. Anyway, I'm staying in a VERY cheap guesthouse here, 2 blocks fromt the beach. Fan room, rather small, 250 baht per night. A few nights ago a snagged a hot little bargirl and took her back home, and the desk lady came out and asked her for her ID. I've never seen nor heard of this practice. It was about 4 am, we were extremely quiet, so I've no clue how she even knew we were walking in.
Last night, I chatted up a different girl, took her out for some drinking and dancing, and afterwards went to my place. She is not a working girl - just a lovely Thai lady who happens to be really great in bed. Anyway, the same thing happens - the lady asks for her ID card, and my lady friend was quite annoyed at this.
I've stayed at many a guesthouse in Patong and Samui, and this is the first I've heard of this. Why the hell do they take the girl's ID card??

For your protection.
They probably have had complaints of things being stolen and use the ID as insurance and protection for hotel/guesthouse guests.

Why the hell do they take the girl's ID card??Any decent guest house or hotel should ask lady for her ID. This is for YOUR protection, your guest is much less likely to be tempted to pinch anything from you if she knows hotel has her ID. All bar girls are used to giving up theie ID's. It is not meant as an insult...just a fact of life.
Okay, good to know. It's just strange because I've never had the desk ask for her ID, and the girl was a bit annoyed (she was not a bar girl or any kind of "working girl").
On another note, the going rate in Patong at the moment for bargirls are 1000 for ST, 1500-2000 for LT. Barfines are 200. And my haggling hasn't seemed to work to bring the price down, yet. I don't remember it being this expensive last year when I was here around August. But I guess the girls are hurting for customers, thus they will charge more. I thought it would be the opposite.

Thanks for the list Craig Less. Unfortunately, all of those places are basically inexpensive guest houses. Nothing wrong with that, but I was looking for something like a 4* full service moderately luxurious place. I've already booked the Deevana Patong, so I will have to take my chances with that, unless I get more info.
Deevana not GF hotel.
Charge 500 baht.
Also quite a long way from Soi Bangla. If I were you, I would book only for one night and then look around.
Also, not that great of a hotel.

That sucks. 500 is not too bad for an overnight, but I was hoping that the Spa Wing, at least, was pretty nice from the photos.

Well, I'm still here. Phuket. Extended my trip again, what a surprize. Anyway, Nov. prices start high season , but can still get room for under 25 US. website www.summerbreezehotel.com . Try that, and if full, you can walk in many places on Soi San Sabai. Should still be plenty available in Nov.

Although I will be there for the "important things at nite" , still wish to be a standard tourist during the day time(at least for a day or two. Really for taking pictures so I could say to everyone back home-this is what I "really did"in Phuket. The other shit only U guys will know when I report back after my trip there). Any thoughts on what I should see besides the lying on the beach and swim? Heard of those famous places such as "The Beach". Movie by that name starring Dicaprio. Never saw the movie as I heard its a movie women likes. and "James Bond Isle? Heard of this too but dont know if its near Patong beach and is Phuket town worth a visit?
Many things to do in Phuket during day. All the beaches are great on Phuket itself, or you can take day trips to Phi Phi Island or James Bond Island or Krabi. Many paces to go and quite cheap. Well worth the money. Thats the main reason why I like Phuket over Pattaya. In Pattaya, only one thing to do. That one thing is great, but I still like to have options and break up my day a little. All in all, if there is a paradise, I think it is Phuket.
Phantomtiger2,
Phuket is a wonderful place and ideal for motorbike trips. Get a descent map of that Province and enjoy, but please stay away from the big bikes, a Honda Dream at B100-150 a day is good enough. I always rent mine in Phuket town and never had any trouble at all.
James bond Island is very touristy because it is BEAUTIFUL! Every travel-agent has trips to JBI - don't miss out! Panwa peninsula, in the SE of Phuket, is nice and quiet, has some wonderful beaches, a silly viewpoint, creeks and lots of small, almost empty, roads. Laem Prompthep is the 'romantic sunse place to be' if you want to really make an impression on your (bar)girl.
And eventho Phuket is the richest of Thailands provinces, Phuket town still has hotelrooms from B200...

Laem Prompthep is the 'romantic sunse place to be' if you want to really make an impression on your (bar)girl.
And eventho Phuket is the richest of Thailands provinces, Phuket town still has hotelrooms from B200...Heard someone mention that renting a motor bike in Phuket (perhaps all of Thailand) need valid drivers license and an International drivers license also???? or 5-0 will give out expensive tickets for not having both, also somesort of helmet laws in effect, dont really know if all is true.

Easy to get in US at any AAA.
No license fine. 300 baht. No helmut fine, 300 baht.
Phantomtiger,
Tho I've been stopped by Phuket's finest on a couple of occasions, they never asked me for a license. Then again, I only ride the Honda Dreams.
My insurance however, will not pay anything beyond 'life-saving' treatment if I have an accident because I don't have a motorlicense.
I would like to suggest an additional consideration to Freelers post. A small bike yes. But I prefer a small dirt bike. It makes some of those side roads (down to beaches) quite a bit eaiser. Absolutely no reason for the big "rice rockets" you see some guys on. Think they're compensating for some other shortcoming ?
I've never been stopped, but I do go through the minor hassle of getting an international licsense before leaving.

Banana is the best disco I've seen in patong so far. Its decent and clean compared to Crocodile and Tiger. Music is good too. Good place for foreigners to hang out and get some decent looking girls :)

I didnt see much mention on Phuket town. I will (most likely)be staying in patong beach but will like to see Phuket town also.
1) What baht buses go there and what should it cost?
2) Where do they drop U off in Phuket town(ex: next to tourist info center or what street, next to Hotel X?
3) As I understand action should be cheaper here, any recommended massage places--ie; soapy kind
4) Any local call houses?
Please list current prices if possible. Cheers.

You will only want to go to there once, believe me. A couple of soapys there in big hotels, but thats about it, just another town in Thailand. Patong is where all the action is.

Where Are the massage parlors and are the working gals there worth the visit.
Also, if possible, what should I be paying for the Soapy Massage in Phuket town?
Cheers,

Is there any action available clost to Laguna Phuket? Want to avoid a 30min taxi ride back and forth when I want to find some action.

Addition to the motorcycle discussion. I have DAN (Divers Alert Network) Insurance. Their premium coverage (about $100 a year) includes coverage for non-diving emergencies, including air evacuation to your home country.
Food for thought.

SajerLaguna is far, far from the action. I would think only couples and married people would want to stay there. Very nice ,but you may as well be staying in another country. There may be some action closer than 30 minutes, but you would be hard pressed to find it.

Last year, a local Thai friend of mine in Kata took me to Grand MP in Phuket Town. Don't know the exact location, but I remember that it was near Robinson Dept Store. There is a fishbowl, but also sideliners. Myfriend mentioned to the papasan that I was from America, so I think I was charged a bit more. I picked their top-of-the-line bowl lady. Local Phuket girl with nice smile and long black hair. Good soapy service and no rushing. My notes states 2K, and it may have included tips. I also ended up going out with her to local dance clubs after the MP closed.
BTW, my friend also took me to another MP next to a big hotel, so just look around hotels.

Other than that, its the nightly journey to Patong!
Hi,
I'm posting in this forum the first time after using you folks as information source quite a while. And my first posting is a simple question; -) But I promise that I will spend some time during (definetly after) my three weeks in phuket to give some detailed updates!
I read the disussion regarding girl friendy hotels. Great stuff - the kind of travel guide you really need (thanks to Craig Less, Hah Baht, Member 1757 and all the others). Maybe I will stay at the summerbreeze for a while - if they are not full end of november to the first week of december.
But I don´t want to live in a zoo for the whole three weeks. I prefer to have it quite and lazy "at home" and to enter the scene just at night. That´s how I did it on Samui three times and I want to continue in this way. Also, honestly, I want to dive during the daytime (also my cover story.).
So I am looking for a cheap girl friendy guest house around patong - from the map and what I know about phuket places like karon, kata or bang tao should suit me - any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
P.S. : Maybe the wrong thread, bur here my good experience in Samui. I stayed in Bophut Beach at the Smile House. Bophut is still (was last yeas in Feb) quite - maybe because the beach isn´t that spectacular - and about 20 min with the motorbike to chaweng. Never had problems with girls beeing to far to go and never had problems in Smile House. But I always was decent because the hotel is mainly occupied by couples or families - probably no place for orgies in the pool. Prices had been 1. 000 including breakfast for a clean bungalow.
Most of the hotels in the Patong area are quiet. You can relax and have a quiet day or evening, then venture into the nightlife of Bangla. Kata, Karon, and Bang Tao are much more quiet and a long ride....at least 200-300 baht each way every time you want to go to Bangla. It all depends on your own particular priorities. For me. Definately Patong.

As with Nutzer, I am also looking for cheaper places for accommodations, but after reading all the post I will be staying only in Patong beach. As it will be high season and high rates when I arrive in Mid Nov, any suggestions :name of guesthouses or cheaper hotels along with email address for advance booking will be appreciated. Dont know if it is possible for 500b or under during this time of year (NOV).
The only things I require is that the place be guest friendly and have a private bathroom (not shared like in backpacker dorms).
Thanks all.
Real tough to find anything decent for 500 baht during. Maybe Touch Villa at the end of Soi C&N. Not a bad spot. Quite reasonable. I have used it as short time hotel. Slightly higher in price are the hotel and guest houses on Soi San Sabai. Great location, close to Bangla and quiet.

Hi Bro Hah Baht,
1)Need to know how far Soi C&N is from Bangla?--cant seem to find it on these tourist maps. If walking distance-then how far?
2)Do you advise just showing up on arrival and checking the hotels and guest houses on Soi San Sabai, knowing its high season, dont want to be shut out.
Also, what should be the price range for room with a/c around this area in Nov?
Thanks
HI ,
I'm off here next year and was just wondering whats the scence here is like. Is it basically centred around the discos, or is it a mixture of the bar and disco scene.
does Phuket have gogos as well as soapys?
thanks

Yes. Phuket has both. I went there myself some years ago and it should be no
different now. However price of soapy in Pearl Hotel is quite pricey.

ThanksThis time of year starting to get quite busy...could get room if you just show up, however, always better to book in advance. Would be lucky to get anything decent under 1000 baht starting Nov., and higher in Dec. I'd say 800 to 1500 would be a good range right now, but not many in 800 range.
Hi guys,
I will be doing my first trip to Phuket soon, for some diving and adventure. Would prefer to stay at a bit quieter beach w/out much hassle, any recommendation? Also for hotels/apartments? Also can anyone recommend a good diving shop? Please to hear yours.

FYI, The Deevana Patong Resort is a moderately upscale hotel ($35-60/night nett) that is not Guest unfriendly. I had been told that they charged a joiner fee, but I was never charged any. I was asked my room number by the security guard, and the lady had to leave her ID, but I was never charged a joiner fee of any kind. I brought 8 ladies back, 4 during daytime, 4 at night) Daytime, we were not even stopped, at night, the room number and ID check happened at the guard's stand, but no charges.
As for the rest of my review, the place is quite beautiful, and has several excellent swimming pools and nice rooms with fridge (but no in-room safe). The breakfast spread was good. My only gripe was it was a 1/2 KM from the beach, (which is how they avoided any Tsunami damage) and not within walking distance to too many decent restaurants. It's around 1 KM north of Bangla Road, which is where most of Patong's action is, but I pretty much skipped Bangla Rd, as there are a string of 4 girly bars on the street leading to the Deevana Patong, and I obtained all of my companionship in these bars. Going rate was 200 Baht Barfine, and 1000 ST or 1500-2000 LT. Several nice cuties there, so I didn't bother too much with the rip-off taxis who want 100 Baht to go 1KM to Bangla Rd at night.
Hi,
I'll be in Phuket from 16-20 Nov.
I want to get hold off an aircon room with attached bath not too far from action for <1000 bahts.
Any lodges /hotels you guys know of ?
Already tried summerblanca, orchid, expat and siam lodge all dont have rooms :(
Please help bros.
Also , I m kinna newbie, Any bro around there at that time.
Willing to show me around?
Thx in advance :)
A polite request to the verterans out there.
What decent (but not overpriced. Ok, downright economical) hotel is there in Patong Beach that has either DSL/Broadband connection in some of it's rooms, or access to decent Wifi connections.
Its amazing why many of them don't list it on any of their websites.
Please advise. I am headed there mid-Nov. (darn soon!)
Thanks in advance.

When you walk the streets of Phuket, all the time you pass ladies in front of a massage parlor.
The ladies call ,,Helo! Massage?''
What do they charge and what do you get?
Thnx
Hello mopmop - Good questions for sure. I am in Phuket at the moment and there is certainly no shortage of massage places. The girls stand out in front and call to you like sirens. They are so cute when trying to lure you into their clutches. Just keep in mind it is all about the baht and you will do ok.
Personally I have found that about a third are just there to give a good massage, and they really take such things seriously in their culture. A good tip for this legit treatment seems to be 200 - 300B. Try getting a high quality 2 hour massage for 500B (US$12.50) anywhere else in the world. If you find it, please post as I will be all over it.
Another third will only give you a good handshake, sort of on-the-sly since they probably don't want to share their windfall with the management. The price for this pleasure is usually 500B (another $12.50). IMHO this is a great value from every perspective, health, sex, fun chatter, etc.
And the remaining third is obviously anything goes. For a certain good time there is Christines in Patong Beach, where I intend to explore this afternoon, at what I believe to be @2000B ($50). Nice looking place from the outside and mostly reported well on this site.
Only thing I am having trouble with on this trip (my second in a year) is the heat and humidity. It is stifling to this wimpy California boy. It is like being in Houston, 95% humidity and 95 degrees.
Sorry to be whiner, but it is a definite showstopper to me if the massage is in a non-AC room. Junior goes on a sit down strike in these conditions. Just a word to the wise.
Still nothing like a sweet young Thai girl giving a good rubbing and tugging. Man, to just be able to pack one up in my suitcase and take her home for a few months would be cool.......ldp
are these joints soapy or the normal massage?
Thanks a lot for extensive info.
