Cut-price Asian sex workers are flooding Australia's sex market, stealing the "bread and butter" of more expensive local prostitutes, a Perth madam says.
West Australian brothel owner Mary-Anne Kenworthy says she spent thousands of dollars investigating Asian women listing their sexual services in Perth newspapers.
She said she found hundreds of the women working out of illegal suburban brothels, for half the going rate of $250 an hour.
The majority of them were working illegally on tourist and student visas and more were arriving all the time, she said.
"Most of these aren't being run as businesses, they are just a complete cash economy," Ms Kenworthy said.
"And I think that is unfair. We're doing the right thing, paying our taxes.
"It costs me $50,000 a year for special checks on everything to make sure my property is safe and above board.
"They are stealing the bread and butter of Australian sex workers."
She said some of the women come to Australia, work every day for six months then return home and live comfortably on the proceeds for several years.
Ms Kenworthy said the trend was hurting the income of Australian sex workers.
"This is the first year in 14 years trading, that I have ever been down in my turnover and we're down about 17 or 18 per cent," she said.
"For some of the smaller brothels I think it's halving their turnover.
"I know of three brothels that have closed up in the last six months."

Been holding out on this one but have run out of cash so won't be visiting any WL's for a while. There's a joint in Dandenong (a fair hike from the city but easier for those in eastern burbs) called the Moon Club. It's in an industrial side street and is a bit run down (some renovations underway at present) with a reasonable selection of Asian ladies. Prices $110-120 for 30min.
