I have to admit it was a while back, but the seating was ok either 2nd or third, no aircon.open windows instead and there where a lot of interesting people in the train plus you can eat chicken on a stick and drink beer all day long. Definitely a much more pleasant experience than on a bus. I think you're right though, it took about from 11 to 5 or so. Korat didn't do much for me though just a few uglies in the park and I didn't find a good bar. It might be there somewhere.
Two 3rd class trains from Korat to Ubon vv are as fast as the express trains and don't come with surcharges. The 7.30 AM from Pilok to Chiang Mai is as fast as express trains too. Yet never a Falang on them!
The Korat-NongKhai 3rd class train leaves very early (6AM), but it's a wonderful trip.
You could take the 8AM to KhonKaen and wait three hous or so for a 30B express ride onward to Nong Khai.
When train traveling: Do try to get hold of the free timetables for North, North-East and South routes. Some trains are much faster than others!

At the moment the city is busy preparing for the sea games in December & daily there is some kind of event happening at Yo Mo Memorial.
Some nights there are city officials running around taking names of girls sitting around, though no one seems much fussed about it.
Over the course of a month in Korat, during daylight hours, I counted about 4-6 girls working in the park. I would rate them barely 1 out 10. Prices start at 300B and you shouldn’t pay more than 500B short time.
At night, numbers jump to over 15 or more & quality much better than day time.
The hotel mostly favored for ST activities was Sri Sura, on Suranari Rd. About 100 Metres East from the market Cost 120 Baht.
Talard Nam:
If things are not too busy at Yo Mo try Talard Nam area (western end of the moat) I have scored here a few times (day / night time) anywhere from where the 205 road junction is to the first bus stop on Mittraphap Rd.
The Mall:
Younger freelancers (read: choosy) hang out here so if you are in your forties give it a miss. The place to sit is outside near the water feature at night.
Klung Plaza is worth a try but no success over the month so that I stayed away from here.
You will always get offers at any of the night clubs around town or try the koroke bars. I had a good pick up one night at the Sipatanna koroke.
Thai Massage:
There seems to be new massage shop poping up every month. Here are 3 places where more than a happy ending was offered.
On Yotha Rd (approx 50 metres from Suranari Rd) – Fish bowl set up, 400B. More for extras.
Mittraphap Rd opposite Ratchapruek Hotel – Sign in English out the front. 500B. More for extras.
Behind Tokyo Hotel – There is a sign (Massage) which can be seen as you exit the old bus station – No fish bowl but the girl I was given was superb. 500 B for massage 500B for extras.
There are Hotels which have massage in-house, for example Sipattana 2nd floor (300B one hr).
Remember to BYO Condom to these places as they don’t have sometimes. Don’t pay anymore than 500B for sex, 200B tops for tug.
As with any massage place in Thailand don’t expect extras every time, it all depends on the girl (and Management).

Still the cheapest in town at 900 Baht for 1 ½ hrs. Girls here get approx 40% of the door fee so tip accordingly.
For the last 2 months (could be longer) hot water was a problem here – Baths were very cold.
To get here go to Sipattana Hotel, now standing out the front of the hotel look west towards the 5 way intersection about 300 metres. You will see a large yellow sign with Osaka on it. As you walk in from the street the entrance is on your left. There is koroke bar on your right.
Ginza:
Across from Klang plaza. Has various girls from 1000B, 1200B & 1600B. To be honest I couldn’t figure how the boss ranked these girls & according to one girl she couldn’t figure it either. She said some days the girls go from 1200 to 1600 back 1000??
The girls here get 600B from the 1200b door fee so tip accordingly. Rooms are nice enough (full of mirrors) and unlike Osaka has plenty of hot water.
Pegasus Hotel:
Overpriced, too far out of town & the girls not that good looking although the manager was willing to barter down to 1500B.
There aren’t many Tuk Tuks going past this place so you may need to walk back to Makro or the new bus station to get a tuk tuk.
Korat Hotel:
Behind the Korat hotel there is an MP. My data here is vague and experience is limited to a few drinks only. Although the sign says open at 2:00pm I suspect things don’t start until well after this time. At 5 pm in the afternoon I was offered choice of one girl @ 1500B – No thanks.
General Stuff:
Don’t expect to score too much if you don’t speak a little Thai. Almost all of the girls I meet were lucky to know more than a dozen words of English. The same can be said for getting around the town as well, some of the samlor & tuk tuk drivers suffer from memory loss (Play dumb) when a falung approaches.
My favorite hotels:
KS Pavilion: Has pool, walking distance to the mall, Traffic noise an issue, good food, Value for money.
Ratchapruek: Pool, central to most things, as above noisy & busy week ends, bit pricey.
Sipattana: Pool, close to Osaka, Central 50B by Tuk Tuk to most places, Koroke at night is noisy. Crappy breakfast / food.
Si wi chai: Basic but walking distance from park, klung plaza, bus station & market.
Yes there are better hotels (Sima, Pricess, Hermitage) but they are too far out of town, oh & not the sort of place where one takes a different girl home every night!

The Talard Nam area is along the north section of the moat (Phonsaen Rd). You will see songtowels & rot moo bahn park along here during the morning period till noon. The freelance activity can occur from where hwy 205 meets Mittraphap rd to the moat north west corner.
In the past I never really noticed Talad nam as an area for freelancers, but, while the park was being revamped maybe they drifted here to escape some of the embarrassment / harassment etc.

I would just say MO CHIT, and if he looks confused say 'Bokasaw', which means bus station in Isaan.
Mo Chit is the bus station for the Northeast and the North - it is huge. Ekamai is a tiny one, just for the Southeast: Pattaya, Chonburi, Rayong, Chantaburi, etc. The ticket counters for Isaan are on the second floor of Mo Chit.
Please be sure when you go to Mo Chit not to listen to any touts, and to buy your tickets only from the actual desk of the bus company. If you go with the touts they'll just put you on the really crappy buses which stop everywhere and have no toilet. In general I highly recommend the VIP buses, particularly those with the larger seats (three across rather than 4 across), but that's not really necessary for Korat as its only 3 hours away. Regular VIP to Korat runs from very early in the morning to maybe midnight, less than 200 baht.
Final note about buses in Thailand - night buses' AC will usually be bitterly cold.. blanket is usually provided but rarely enough. Bring a wrap!

BTW, bokasaw means something like "government bus station," as opposed to a private or specialized terminal. I learned this the hard way.
eg, if you've been to Krabi lately, sathani bokasaw is the one north of town a few km, whereas that bus station near the new piers west (I think) of town will not involve 'bokasaw.'

Sometimes you are better telling the taxie driver the city you are going to & how, chances are he was born in korat & uses the bus station every month or so.
I disagree with the transliteration seen on maps & repeated here. Mo to me would sound like mo from the Simpons. When pronounced in Thai it sounds like “more” so I always write it mor – chit. Just think of ‘more shit’ but us c instead of s. Mor is also doctor in thai.

Air con Bus tickets to korat use to be sold on the upper floor at morchit bus station but you can also buy them where the bus departs – see map. I am told the only tickets sold on the upper floor will be by ordinary bus in the future? In any case, get the taxi driver to drop you off on the upper floor & proceed to the overhead walkover then walk north. Buses are on the right hand side of the dock (see map 3rd from the north end) – Look for the person sitting down at a desk with a PC. There are 2 companies operating here, both terminate at the old bus station in korat.
There is a third company at morchit that terminates at the new bus station in korat
As opebo say’s be careful with the touts, they are everywhere.

Mor chit would be more accurate in English, probably. For me bo ko so is good enough, others would prefer baw kaw saw. As long as folks understand, I'd say.

True but, There have been occasions in the past where I have attempted to purchase tickets at the bus departure point but then directed to the upper floor to buy the tickets. (Read - stuffed around)
My point is the upper floor ticketing area directed me to the bus departure point to buy my ticket as they don’t issue (Air / VIP) tickets for korat from there any more.
Is it because the computerized seat selection is now down stairs or a thai thing where systems are changed every month??

Found myself in Korat yesterday morning -the first time in over 6 months,

It was originally a "Park" with trees and grass, but just over a year ago, it was reopened with fountains, concrete walkways, and just a few seats (mostly without any protection from the sun). Until someone comes up with a new name I suppose it will continue to be known as the Park.

I am in Korat in the beginning of May. Anybody who wants to have a beer, beat me in pool and check up the locals together?

I have been there at least 3 times a year for the past 6 years. Do not go out each time for mongering, as I have learned it is not easy if you cannot speak Thai. A few bars near the hotels that cater to the airforce guys, you can get by ok. But other than that, unless you have a Thai friend to help you, you are better off going to Pattaya if you want to save some cost from BKK.

But you have been there (is that Korat or the bars and soapies?) at least 18 times in the past 6 years, yet you have not provided the original Op, Johnnie Bravo, with an answer. He was interested in cost, but you are suggesting with limited or no Thai he would find things difficult. Have you been to the bars and soapies? How much are the girls? Is it comparable with Bangkok as I have intimated?

I must admit that I haven't been to Khorat in 3 years, but even with only "nit noi" Thai (then), I got the point across. OF COURSE SPEAKING THE LANGUAGE IS BETTER - it's WHY I keep learning. The 200 or 300 B ST price is relatively standard in the park area and LT can be had for 500 or so (this info is ALSO second hand - but only a couple of months old).
At the noodle shops outside the park on the perimeter, sit down and look around. IF a nice "girl" SMILES BACK, you can go from there. (some of them might be so young as to be "jail bait", so watch yourself)
The last trip (3 years ago) I got along with minimal language skills - what pussy is available will make itself KNOWN but YOU will need to make the first overt move - no "hallow hansum man" stuff in Khorat.

I agree with you re Khorat being the gateway to Isaan, but my suggestion was made on the basis that the new Isaan thread also includes Khorat. Either consolidate, or remove Khorat from the new thread and let it stand alone.

Your Baht simply stretches and stretches to a point that seems to go beyond the 55B/Euro mark.
That's the good news.
The other news is good for me and some others, but not for all: speaking at least a little Thai is far more important than in places like BKK, Patts, Hua Hin or Phuket.
As to where the Korat thread ends up? I couldn't care less.

Since I live near Korat I am often in the city and frequent some of the haunts, maasge places and soapies.
As previous people have said prices in Korat especially for the girls around the park are cheap by Bangkok and Pattaya prices, yes between 200 and 500 and easy to negotiate. Some will do do everything and others wont, some Thai is useful but international signs are easy. Also keep a pen and write down the price. The area is busier after it gets dark but there are girls there during the day. Many are often in twos or threes and frequent the streat junctions or are on the park itself. You really cannot miss them.
As for soapies, probably the best two that I have visited are one behind the Korat Hotel which keeps changing it's name. There are girls in the bar with skimpy clothing and I mean skimpy and a show in a small bath is put on later in the evening. There are not many girls to choose from as regards the soapy but prices are ok. The last visit was 1,450 baht including two drinks and one hour in the soapy and the fun afterwards.
The other one I like is at the Pegasus Hotel, where you can park discretely around the back and then get the lift to the top floor. The bar occupies all that floor. Late evening there can be around 12 girls, sometimes 20 and mostly stunners, the last one was a 19 year old law student earning extra money. Prices here are higher and with two drinks it will cost around 2,200 baht for over an hour of fun. The last time I went the US army was in town and one guy took 6 girls!

The girls hang around there after midnight sometimes earlier. There are normally about 6+ some with their pimps. Prices are higher than the park from 1,000 short time. Many are not so good for that money but a few are ok. They are both sides of the street outside the hotel.

Most of the lower Isaan provinces have action around their railway stations. I have never seen Khorat RWS mentioned. Does anyone have any info on this. Would make a change from the "Park"

Every town in isaan is different but most street action occus in the center of town somewhere, be it "the park" "the town clock" "the town square" "the mall" "the bus station" "the big city hotel". etc
The lowest price MP in korat is Osaka, it was 900 B for 1.5 hrs (12 Months ago). I think that was fair value back then.

Another big reason there are freelancers around the Buriram, Surin, and Sisaket railway stations is that they are located in the center of downtown in each of those communities. Is what place that you would recommend that I should head for if I wanted to find chicks who aren't in it for the P4P. But rather the more "usual" meeting-someone-in-a-club, well. I think I've said some things about Korat in the 'Isaan' section. I may not have noticed there was a separate Korat section.
I was there a couple times in the last year, and I saw there were still a lot of girls near the park (though they seemed to stick mainly to the streets near it, perhaps due to getting busted), all fairly mediocre looking. I didn't take any (though in past years when I did they were mostly unpleasant). I also visited a few of the soapies in town over the last year and they were ok, but expensive at 1,500-1,800 mostly. Oh and there are a few higher end girls (maybe 1,000 baht?) with pimps near that big hotel downtown, sort of near the small downtown mall and opposite Ginza soapy. I can't remember the name of that hotel.
Really I can't recommend this town from my own experiences. If you come as far as a Korat trip you might as well make it a Khon Kaen/Udon Thani trip instead. Check out my and other's reports on those two towns, both far superior to Korat - Khon Kaen if you have a larger budget, Udon Thani for the more impecunious.

F.Great to know sakhol korat don t increase their rooms price. I usually stay in sri rat hotel, it a good place because many girls loitering the reception, or come for using restroom. The terrace on the top floor offered a good view on the park and it s really refreshing place at night. The Poh Tong is closed as is the restaurant below it (the one with the monumental views of the girls crossing the street.)
The restaurant is now a supermarket.
Strange- In Pitsanulok a restaurant on the edge of the busstation is also turned into a supermarket!

Went to the Park in Khorat today with great expectations after reading the comments on this thread. At 2PM on a Friday, all I saw were a couple of gardeners and a few stray dogs. The place was completely deserted. Do I have the right park? I went to the big one that has a 3 or 4 kilometer bike / jogging path around a big lake. Maybe I went at the wrong time.

You're looking for the area North and South of the Ya Mo statue.
It's not a park anymore, but people still call it the garden ("suan").
Klang Mall is right next to it and so is the temple with the domed roof.

I was in khorat last July, haven t been there since 2008. Since 2000 khorat was always one of my favourite place for mongering. The park is.
An incredible chicken farm with large amount of girls from all ages at cheap prices, the park was greater in his old form. The big trees offered
Refreshing places for reading books or simply for observed the business. In his new form the park is almost nude, trees are too small and seating here from 12 to 5 pm is.
Like stay in a sauna. The good point is the park is far more clean than before.
So I take the ordinary train from Bangkok 50 baths, but as usual the train was in late. 90 minutes so the trip was 6h30 instead of 5 hours.
The bus is more expansive 198 baths but take only 3h30, and you have free soda and pastry on board. The service is almost 24/24 with Bangkok and the terminal is mochit where the city bus connection allowed you to go everywhere in Bangkok.
So I decided to walk until my favourite hotel, the sri rattana. Price is now 180 baths. This hotel is not the best of khorat far from here and the staff is lazy. Don t expect any room service as long as you don t request.
But I like this place for his good roof terrace that offer fanstastic view on the chiken farm. Last point a lot of girls goes with their customer in this place which allowed to have close view on the stock.
In 2008 I noticed less number of girls in the park but quality was better than before, more young girls, often cute, when in the past the majority of girl was older, but often naughty with good service.
For 200 to 300 baths.
I got the confirmation this year, girls quality is higher and younger, but price is higher too and service fall dramatically. My favourite girl miss Pla was not here, maybe she goes back to nong khai for a canddle festival.

The oldest girls tend to work only daytime, in fact some girls work only daytime, some only at night. Around 6 pm a group of young and cutie girls appeared, they stay beside the sri rattana hotel. They asked for 500 baths but goes for 400.
If they are cute, slim their service is really crap, don t expect BJ. In fact they are not very interested by farang since they are targeted by thai men and get.
As much customers they want. Last point they have no english at all, you must speak thai to convinced them to follow you.
The bad surprise comes from the #old #girls in the park, if before you easily get them for 200 baths. They now charge you 500 bath upfront and denied to goes for less than 300. (a lot for not less than 400)
If 300 baths is acceptable. 400 baths is too much for such kind of girls. Probably the influx of stupid farang bored from Pattaya has do their bad job one more time. BTW much more farang live and come in khorat since 5 years.
I also ventured to juosa karaoke mentioned by that asshole in old post but find nothing interesting.
The good point with khorat is the cost of life is always cheap, cheaper than south Thailand for example. About girls after venturing in Buriram and Ubonratchatanee. Khorat remain a good place for finding young and cute girls compared with other cities I mentioned. But if you expected wild sex experience.
Like before find another place. I m sure in some years khorat will be a waste of time of p4p, like udonthani now (gosh how udon was great until 2005).
All and all I got pleasant stay in khorat this year mostly with help of old park friend. Not sure if my friend was not here it will be so good.

Paying up front is quite normal in brothels or with ladies who mostly cater to locals. As said above, some try to flee from payment. However, in major locations it is quite normal and acceptable to pay after the deed is done.

Spent a couple of nights in Korat. Fish bowls are easy to find. The best one is calle Gianza across from from Klang Plaza. Just hop on a tub-tuk and ask them to take you to Klang Plaza. 20 girls, above average to good looking. They are not used to westerners, so they will pay extra attention to you. Service is far better than BKK. Most of the girls have limited English, but the managers are fluent.

There's plenty of naughty massage places around where the soapies used to be still.

It is as naughty as it gets, think BBFSCIP available, and they have had quite a few lookers each time I had tried them.
There are plenty more naughty looking massage shops along that main street where the side soi with the Ra Spa in it runs off.
The main road name is Sirinakhon Road, and the likely shops are mainly on the eastern end of its 800 m length.
