When possible I ask for receipts for everything and send money when bills are due and food weekly. 2,500 php week feeds 1 adult and 3 children. Shopping at AC markets and home cooked. Lots of fish and vegetables. And 1 k for my GF for food that also covers motorbike gas and misc items.

Need get breakdown of everything as they will tend to misuse your money IMO.

PP.20 k is above poverty and survival. Not a luxury lifestyle. Usually it takes 3 in the family working to add up to 20 k a month.

An old person in the province living on rice and sardines would barely survive on 5 k a month. Providing there is no rent to pay.

Entry level BPO jobs will pay around 13-14 K / mo. Crap jobs in province (like local bakeries etc) maybe 3-5 K.

Ultimately the reason for this is that Filipinos were a colonial and downtrodden people for centuries and as a culture this has contributed to a ruinous stereotype of Westerners. That stereotype-the naive tourist to be beguiled from his money; the walking ATM machine, the Santa Claus with socks and heavy shoes in the tropics-will stymie trust and intimacy. I have found that it's a great party until my money runs out. Then my Filipina friends fade away.

I lived in the province for a year or so at the start of pandemic. Minimum wage there I believe was just over p300 for an 8-hour shift. Working 6 days a week would be p1920. Monthly pay would be p7680. Many employers ignore that wage completely and offer p300/ day, slightly below the minimum. Other jobs that don't require documents (ie, a resume) to obtain (ie, washing your neighbor's clothes) might make as little as p100/ day.

Compare that with the NCR (Manila) minimum wage of p486 / day, or p2916 / week, and p11,664 / monthly.

I'm with the other gents in my cynicism. Its entirely possible that she has other sponsors (whether they visit with her or not). There's nothing wrong with sending her money. A general rule of thumb on the amount: Are you sending an amount (either monthly, or in past total) that would keep you awake at night if you found out that she had other sponsors, or a local pinoy boyfie, other foreign visitors, or she had terribly wasted / mis-spent your money (ie, she was spending it on her pinoy beau)? PP.Even thought I'm in your same situation (I have a girlfriend in Philippines for 3 years), I have to agree with everyone here, you can not be sending her money unless she is "sick" and she can not work, or in a "wheelchair" and she can not find a job, or you guys just had a baby and she needs to take care your baby, other than that she is young so she can work.

That's why is important to put in your dating profile: No GOLD DIGGERS or ESCORTS! You got to have a job and not be Lazy!

Is OK to send money on her Birthday or Christmas, or when you go visit her and you ask her to quit her job so you can spend time together and travel around Philippines, that's different, you can pay for her while you are living together for afew months and also you can pay when you go back until she finds a job, but she needs to find a job ASAP when you leave, like within a month or two, if you find the right woman and she is hard worker, it will come from her and you don't need to say anything.

And by the way is easy to find a job in an agency in a big city like Manila or Cebu, once they know her that she is a hardworker her agency will rehired her, is good to have friends in the agency also, so they can rehired you back after you quit. I have no idea how many people the girl in question is "helping," but the notion of needing Php600 per day or more for food or drink for personal consumption here is absurd, unless she's reluctant to prepare / cook her own food. I have heard the "I know, but my girl is different." comment from countless (clueless) foreigners in the more than two decades that I've lived here, and my advice, which is identical to that proffered by G, is typically ignored. Folks are, of course free to spend their money, without judgment, however they please, but should do so, I think, based on at least some reliable knowledge of how their money is being spent.

1/ before upping an allowance, what has PPs considerable assistance todate actually financed? Has she built a house, a small business, a college degree? Or has it all gone to "consumption" ie partying with her girlfriends?

2/ Asians really can be judged by the company they keep. If a girl's friends are all students, working at SM etc, then you can have a lot of confidence that she is making an effort to get ahead. Should be easier for you to find a good girl since you are young (my guess is you are white since you are from Europe). Just by being 30 yrs old you can find any girl at any age without worrying about the age gap (19 and over of course, you don't want an underage), 11 yrs difference will be your biggest age gap, so more likely both of you will look like the same age, so she won't be ashamed of you or try to hide you from her family or friends (like it happens sometimes with a bigger age gap like 30 yrs or more). The kind of person that would easily be taken advantage of. The Philippines is a hard knocks country. It is a former colony and as such the people have come to look upon foreigners differently. I think that it is difficult for a Filipina to develop greater allegiance to a foreigner then it is to anyone of their compatriots. I've seen my Filipina girlfriends take sides with a trike driver that she doesn't know over me. It is probably the worst place in the world to go spouse hunting but perhaps the best country in the world to get an easy lay. BTW, you do not want to get emotionally involved with a prostitute. You can't unscramble an egg and you can't reform a prostitute.

My advice would be to go to Vientiane Laos for a month and hang out. I think the girls there are less jaded and more sincere. You will find a girl there will be grateful for you and see you for yourself and not as an income source. Good luck and be careful.

If done properly it will change your perspective on women completely. But consider it only as a learning opportunity where you try to meet as many girls as you possibly can. Where I'm from, if you get advice from Lawyer X, they can no longer give advice nor assist the other party. That applies forever. Being the first to visit all the best lawyers in town can be a valuable blocking move and leave her with only the local ambulance chaser for representation.

Regardless of how it plays out, western divorces are expensive. Just the fees will be 10's of thousands. Add asset settlements and ongoing alimony to that. The advantage is that it's clear cut.

Do you have the option of a direct negotiated settlement? These can be enforceable and much cheaper if you think she would be reasonable.

2/ The big question is if you want to remain in PI or remarry? A bitter and twisted ex, who has lost out on a financial windfall, is unlikely just to turn the other cheek and make this easy.

She decided to get a lawyer and her $5000 turned to $500 by the time she received her portion from the lawyer. They charged her for stamps and everything. For my case I did send 2 certified letters, but the negotiation was mostly done through email.

I did my own divorce where as my ex wife hired a lawyer. I ended up getting most everythihg. Initially, I asked my wife how she wanted to divide things up and I drew up the paperwork according to how we agreed, but in the end she did not sign it and chose a lawyer instead.

The key is to talk to his wife and find out how she wants to handle things then draw up the paperwork yourself and you both sign it and file it at the local courthouse and wait for a judge's order. There are plenty of forms and examples online these days. All a lawyer is going to do is cost you unnecessary money and time. I would not involve a lawyer unless you can not come to an agreement with the person and have to actually enter a courtroom for formal litigation. Comments on both options:

1/ Act first and get your affairs in line. You don't want to be panicking after she has all her side in order and is sueing you.

Where I'm from, if you get advice from Lawyer X, they can no longer give advice nor assist the other party. That applies forever. Being the first to visit all the best lawyers in town can be a valuable blocking move and leave her with only the local ambulance chaser for representation.

Regardless of how it plays out, western divorces are expensive. Just the fees will be 10's of thousands. Add asset settlements and ongoing alimony to that. The advantage is that it's clear cut.

Do you have the option of a direct negotiated settlement? These can be enforceable and much cheaper if you think she would be reasonable.

2/ The big question is if you want to remain in PI or remarry? A bitter and twisted ex, who has lost out on a financial windfall, is unlikely just to turn the other cheek and make this easy.

I've always found it better to have a GF break up with me and move on rather than just kick her to the street. Much easier and everyone goes on to do their own thing. Instigating this is pretty easy. - Do not negotiate paying her a monthly salary to be your wife. She is your wife and partner, not an employee. The type of woman you seek should not be concerned about money from you. If she is, that's a huge warning sign to you.

- Expect to pay a dowry to her family. This practice is still common in Philippine provinces, and is often in the 20 k range. You may be asked to provide something for the farm or family business, too.

- You marry into her family, which means you marry into their problems, as well. If she is a good woman, she will want to help her family. This is really a cultural thing there. You need to expect that and set those boundaries early on in the relationship or you will be broke before you know it.

You may not like this, but I would consider a single mother if you really want what you say. And maybe a little older. She will be grateful for your love for her and her kids, and almost guaranteed that she will be a good housewife.

I do not think a self-respecting woman living with you as a wife will want or accept a salary. That is demeaning. She is your wife, not an employee. I send my partners money monthly to cover the bills and to save a little bit, but I don't do that if I am there. Treat her like a wife. They do not expect money just for being a wife. Just treat her well and you will be okay.

If you are going to the province, be aware that some girls are really dirt poor. Especially if they live in Sitio of some far-flunged barangay. Their house may literally be a wooden shack with a dirt floor and anahau roof and no power. You can not expect to get a girl like this and her be able to clean a western home properly. There is a learning curve.
