Traveller's checks can be cashed at Margarita Station and at the Western Union outlet right by Chow King restaurant on the strip. These were the only two places that would cash $500 U.S. checks for me. The catch however, is that you have to provide the original certificate of purchase along with your checks. This kind of defeats the purpose since you are supposed to keep the two items separate for security reasons. The other thing is that they can usually only do it between about 2:00pm to 5:00pm since before then they don't have enough Pesos on hand and after then they close down.

Well, came back to AC after spending some 'udder stuff' time, and noticed a huge party going on at the Kokomos and the street just out front. I'm writing this quickly to join the melee. My first night I was out until the sun came up and felt like I was back in Nam. Ok, not really like Nam--I was in grade school. But anyways, my evening went like this: Full body massage to get that airplane carmp out of the way, many San Miguels; a trip down Blow Row with a young large breasted honey, many San Miguel; picked up a girl just leaving the Brown Sugar around 0530, who said she had her eyes on me (don't they all?), a good shot of back, slept 2 hours, another shot of back. Whew!

PS: No complaint with quantity or quality of girls, but noticed the large amount of mongers getting the Senior citizen discount around here. I walked into the Club bar, and lowered the average monger age to 50.

i have what may appear to be a somewhat weird question since we are on the rp board. i admit i am shallow, but most mongers are. there was a very hot and pretty regular girl that i met in manila on my trip there. she was a nurse. her height was 4-9. i am 6-1. for some reason, i could not get over how much taller i was than her, like a skyscraper. an american girl this height would bring stares if she was walking alongside me, but there, of course, no one cared and it did not look out of place. i am interested in this girl, she is fine all around but the height thing is messing with my mind for some reason. the question is, how short of a girl do some of you feel comfortable with if you are interested in more than mongering? does it bother you at all to date a girl that is that short? what is the average height for a filipina? anyone know?
i suppose the main reason i bring this up is that my brother is about my height and he married an american girl that is about 4-10 and she looks so short next to him, almost like a tall midget. i guess every guy has his weird thing that bothers him about girls and this is mine i suppose. most of the other girls i mongered with or dated were around 5-1 to 5-6.

I noticed about a page back several people went into good detail about some of the bars here, so I will not hit upon them again unless some emphasizing is necessary.
One of these is Roadhouse. If you need a place to start your afternoon and play catch up to last night's buzz, this is a good spot. From opening time until 8pm is 2-1 happy hour. So for roughly 65p you get doubles of your poison as fast as you want to drink them. The girls are split into 2 groups: The first is the 'tall' group, which is also the heavier girls, and the second is the short girls, which are more petite. This group has fun on stage and are entertaining. However, with the exception of just a couple, they all seemed to have some extra weight at the waist. The girl's outfits are nice and the bar setting is comfortable. Trivia: A girl is fined 500p if she is late to work at this bar.
I have to write about the blow row bars, simply because it's fun to do. In between the hags, billy boys and teenagers, you can get turned off pretty quickly unless, like me, you wonder about the 17 year old with a limp that is singing karoake. There are some honeys down this road, and the best time for a stroll is around 9pm when you have that first good buzz and a short time is in order. Stay away from the Fire Empire, unless you don't mind getting blown by a guy. Shadows has the most girls that I could see, but that karoake bar on the left and one several bars down from this one, probably had the cutest girls. At this last one, ask for Rose or Sherry, both really got into the act. Oh, and take your own condoms. Theirs suck and break easily, if they have one at all. Ask me how I know.
The first weekend here must have been geriatric night special, but it seems to have balanced out a bit. Can't say I blame them; where else can you be an old fart with a 19 y.o. honey on your arm and not be rich?
Next post, I will list a few not worth your time unless you like fat, old and stretched marked ladies. Just keep in mind this is just currently. Things change. My camera is going tits up, so I'll try to post what I can.

Hey Jack I know the karoake bar you are talking about on blow row. I also know the bar a few doors down. You mention a girl named Rose at the bar a few doors down from the Karoake bar, I think I have a picture of her. The attachment is a picture of Rose I believe.
have a retired Motorola nexus phone that uses a Sim card. Do you know if this would be compatible with the cell phone cards in PI? Are all SIM type cell phones compatible with all cards? I can probably haul it along just in case.

Just for those of you who were inqiring about Kokomo's rooms:
Kokomo's is good for the price, but if you can afford to spend the extra 5 bucks a night, get the suite, or a different hotel. The water pressure here sucks, which is my main complaint. The other thing that was an initial turn-off, is that the rooms open up to the main restaurant room, pool tables, and bar. So basically everyone knows who you're bringing home to dinner, so to speak. It bothered me for about a night. Then I remebered I was in the PI, and have given a rat's ass since.
One other thing, I'm not sure I mentioned it, but there are PCs in every room with internet access free, but no CD drive. So basically I brought my CDs to add weight. I thought for sure I saw CD drives on the web site, but it could have been the suite. I was on a tight budget and figured the 50 bucks or so I was saving could get me laid or blown 10 times, so guess which one I picked.
OH! and never carry your digital camera in your shirt pocket if you sweat like a ***** in church (like me). It don't take to it very kindly.

You know this will be my 4th attempt now, after 9 trips in 18 months. But this girl is the best I've come accross. Non bar girl, college educated, not asking for money, using the little (very little) money I left her with wisely, and was a cherry on top. The only pamily issues that came up was helping get the papers translated to Chinese for her father's pension. He just died this last January. So, so far so good.

But the bar owners want the girls dancing and that is what THEY want to hear. I don't know about you guys but some of it will drive me right out. Over here in Dubai we have a bar / night club with a Filipino Band who does Pink Floyd, Queen, Eagles, ACDC, Guns & Roses, etc - just great ROCK! And they are seriously tallented musicians. The guitarist can play Clapton better than Clapton can. Never before heard a cover band tackle Bohemian Rhapsody complete with all the harmonies and make it sound so damn good. I just love it. Add a generous helping of dusky ladies and it's paradise.

Well unlike you rap haters I can not stand the head banging non talent heavy metal bands. In most dance clubs here in the states and across th globe, most people listen to hip hop. I can't picture myself bumming and grinding ( to you metal heads thats dancing close) to a women while listening to Jump by Van Halen. Just my 2 cents.
I have to agree with the consensus here - there are a lot of reasons to favor the Roadhouse. The music, the uniforms, the happy hour prices, the dance routines, etc. I think that the number one reason is that they run a bar with rules for the girls - no cell phones in the bars, or on dates. No smoking by the girls (one thing that I do not understand ALL the bars enforcing).
I make it a point to stop by there several times every trip and often find a girl when I do go there.
Good place, well run and an example for a lot of other bars.

The upper deck of Cambodia has been closed and dark. IMHO the place might be up for sale because of lack of customers.
Cleopatra cum Sphinx cum who knows what else is being remodled again. By the time they finish this time, the owner will have spent more there than it cost to build Camelot.
Two new hotels going up on fields - one above Welcome Inn - so I have been told believe it or not and the other next to Champaign.
Some old news: Daddy Peter passed away in Brown Sugar of a heart attack.
Best Steak in town: Hole in the wall. Runner up is Amies out door restaurant on fields P210 for a porterhouse.
Best Seafood: Balibago Seafood Restaurant. This is located on the left on Mac Hwy Just past Savers Mall. Built like Tatoys in Iloilo. Nipa Huts out doors and the best seafood I've had in a long time. They have everything there.

I live in Angeles City part time for about 4 years. I’m there for several months at a time then come back to the states for about 3-6 weeks then return to my PI home.
Now for my 2 cents: BBBJ - CBJ. I cant think of any pinay that would want to put a nasty condom in her mouth! A BJ is just that, a BJ any more than 2 letters to describe it then it is something else. Hello all. Well, the time is fast approaching. I have been following this board closely for the last few months and have found it a wonderful source of information - its a credit to you all. My first trip to the pi kicks off next week - I will be in manila on the 15th and angeles from the 16th (and possibly going to Puerto Galera on the last few days of the trip but not decided on this yet).
Consequently, I would be grateful for one last update from those who've spent time in AC within the last three weeks or so.
Which bars are particularly hot at the moment?
Are there any particular girls that you found to be particularly wild (those that stood out from the rest and were genuinely into raunchy fun)?
Anything else that you consider to be worthy of reporting that hasnt been reported to date?
Naturally, i will be posting a full comprehensive report on my visit to ac/pi and my experiences.

Some things about AC just continue to confuse me. Like the cherry girl thing... Why do the bars employ them? I mean, what is the deal with that? Why would I buy a drink for a girl I have no chance of fucking? I can do that in the USA! Of course once you barfine them they are "cherry" or have "mens". Seems like concotions to rip you off or at best let the girl have an out. I have no problem with the girl having an out but just give the barfines back freely. Don't make foks have to work for their money back! I hear that becomes a problem sometimes. Also the time value of pussy. The pay first BKA runner system. Why don't they break the barfines down so there is short time and long time? Why do they decieve you (refer to cherry girls) into thinking that these girls are going to stay with you? The owners may not be decietful but there is deception somewhere regarding all the runner stories I have heard. Why don't they just do a barfine as in Thailand style (200 - 600 baht) and just let the girl and guy work out the tips? No money no honey, no honey no money. Man, that shit seems to work for me! You can't beat the pay after system with a baseball bat...
The lack of decent eats. In Thailand you have to work real hard to find bad food joint. In AC you have to work hard to find a good one so I hear.
Lack of decently priced and available hotels. Maybe investors are afraid of everything over there shutting down though I hear they are starting to address these problems.
Lack of daytime activity. I would love to fuck all day... My dick has other plans sometimes... I need something to do with my downtime. I cannot just sit at the pool all day and bar hop at 2 in the afternoon. I need movies, I need legit malls, I need SHIT TA DO!
Lack of competition with the go go bars. They have you where they want you. Besides Santos Street you are at the mercy of the bars and whatever form of women and entertainment they put to you. Freelancers, beer bars, gogos and massage parlors give you something to do differently (sexual venue wise) every day for at least four days in Thailand given the examples I listed.
Lack of decent shopping. I hear there is a lack of competitive prices (meaning not really THAT cheap but cheap all the same) and variation of product when it comes to shopping. I hear the malls are a shameful joke and what you get there is not exactly a bargain most times.
These are Just a few things that keep me from going, though I may check out Manila and Davao and Cebu soon, I can't go to AC with respect to all the things AC has going, or NOT going for it. I mean in TL you have options such as freelancers, multitude of hotels, eateries etc. I feel that I cannot waste a precious week of vax to go there for all that shit I mentioned above though I love the Pinays and I am sure I will have a "good" time. I just need the total vax and I don't think AC will do it for me.
So guys I have not been, Is there anything that you guys can say that will make me understand why you go time and again? Have the majority of you been to Thailand? Pattaya, Bangkok? I will guess the Pinays keep you going to AC but I have met some really sweet Thai women...

AC is a place where you go to do just one thing and that's it. Other stuff you mentioned, shopping, eating, sightseeing.
Sorry, most guys who go to AC wouldn't care less. What's different here in the PI compare to that of Thailand is the people. They are good, real and pleasant folks, and yes the bar girls too. I made the mistake of going to Thailand few times before knowing about the PI. Fuck a Thai girl is like fucking a hole in the wall, can't speak, can't express emotions, but can take your money and ask for more.
About the "cherry girl," usually the other girls or mamasan would tell you about her before letting you barfine her, or you would notice about the price being so high.
About "competition," what the hell do you ask for when there are about 40 bars located in a one mile radius area, you must have dicks growing out of your knees to accomodate all that.
Sorry that your precious two weeks of vacation is "wasted." To each his own, you stay in Thailand, I will continue to come to AC where you can fuck a real human being.

Travel Fox, humm, I have been going to the P.I. since 68 and never had any problems in A.C. I have heard of many of these problems however when the Fleet was in Subic/Opo. I guess there are many reasons for the situations you mentioned above but I am always above board on what I want, make sure the girl knows it and if there are any doubts I coordinate with the Mamasan. There are always a few bad ones and they usually dont last that long as word spreads pretty fast-- heck there are bad guys visiting A.C. also who dont want to pay, tip etc. I go almost every year and normally stay between A.C. and LaUnion-- both have there pro/cons. Good luck however if you do decide to visit the P.I.

TravelFox, I made a comment last night but for some reason it did not post. I have been traveling to the P.I. since 68 timeframe and never had those problems. Think the main thing is to really understand the P.I. mentality. One has to really make sure you explain in detail exactly what you want from the barfine. If there is any concern then one has to talk to the Mamasan. I have never had a runner--- bad performers yes-- but for most of the bars its frowned upon as AC is a small city and word gets around really fast. I hate to compare AC with TL-- both have their pros/cons. I spend most of my time between AC and LaUnion and always have a great time. Good luck to you as well as the rest of the board. Will be back to the P.I. in Oct.

Well Columpuss you do just that. Don't know what kind of experience you have had in Thailand but my experience has been nothing short of great. You seem like you have not had great experiences. I have but I am not going to pigeonhole myself into one country I want to get out and about and explore the craft at the same time. I tend to agree with some of your comments about AC also. I went last month and in one of my previous reports pretty much gave AC an "F" in the grade scale. I too was at first excited about going and when I got there...was pretty much disappointed. I read the board and the reports about all the "pretty" girls and shit..not so! There are more fat and chunky girls in AC and rarely find a gem! Most of the girls are average looking and not the "stunners" most guys report here! Now keep in mind, we all have our own rating scale but really...AC was "no where near" what I have been reading about! True, AC has tons of women, but like I said, most are average. I hate that they "think" they are dancing or whatever the fuck they call "dancing"! Most of them just move their hips to the music with there hands clasped together as if they are bored! Maybe they are! But it looks like some fuckup chorus line pretending to entertain you!. I guess my expectation was compared to the US stripclubs where you see asses wigglin', shakin' and grindin' to the music! Not so in AC where you would be lucky to see one move their foot to the beat of the music. And.. the music is something less than to be desired. Again..Im thinking in comparison with the US and the music they play in the stripclubs there. When you walk into a club in AC, you are either pulled or dragged into it, which makes you feel you're wanted, but they just want your money. Immediately you are asked what you want to drink. Then you get the rush of girls coming to sit down next to you and the waitress asks if you want to buy the girl a drink. I mean damn...cant I take my jacket off first? I dont like how they literally watch the girl drink her drink and before she's even done...is asking you to buy her another?! I know this is the bar's tactic to get as much as they can from you before you leave so I play the game also and just tell them to chill! I let them know when I want to buy a drink. Now with the "cherry girls"..I agree with you on this one too! Why employ a girl you know is not ready to give up her virginity but put her on the counter for sale?? Hmmm..where is the logic in that and why? Thats why I always ask before I even consider a BF. I get it out the way from the beginning..I ask the waitress who is a cherry girl and who isnt and I avoid them. Dont feel like going through the headache. I come to fuck and they know that so why the bullshit of putting something on display you know you cant have? Cant be a challenge if you know shes a cherry girl? Or do some guys think they can change her mind? Waste of time and money if you ask me. If you dont like the bar scene, there isnt much else to do and you have to know and understand that before you go to AC. If you change your mind about AC, just go to get some average pussy, if you want stunners or above average pussy, go to cebu or davao! I prefer cebu others may tell you davao has them but I been to both and spent just as much time in both areas and cebu beats it by far. You can join filipinheart and have your pick there. You will find there are more of them from cebu than any other area. I want to post some pics of my girl from cebu but dont have her permission for the face shots. However, if you could hit the return key every few sentences while you're writing, and thus break your report into smaller paragraphs, your report would be much easier to read and would certainly be appreciated by your fellow Forum members.

Never said anything about the RP, I said Angeles. I am not going out of my way for 3 hours on back roads for what has been described. I am defininitely taking a trip to the PI it will just involve Manila, Cebu and probably Davao.
I am not whining about it I am asking why should I go and what is there that I am missing about the place that brings you guys back. But don't twist what I ask around, my comments were NOT about the RP but Angeles and I was NOT whining but asking questions and giving you guys the knowledge and experiences I have heard about in order for you to tell me why, despite these things (that no one has refuted) you still go there.

I hear you and you have made some interesting points about the scene in AC but in my opinion the reason people rave about it is because its cheap and its seedy and guys can live out their fantasies. Up here you walk into your room with three or four girls and no one gives you a second look. You change the girl every hour throughout the night – who cares? But this isn’t a tourist destination so you don’t have to worry about what the other guests think of you at breakfast because here 90% of the people are up here for one thing and one thing only SEX.
On Santos Street- which barely qualifies as a street in any other country, more of a dirt road to be honest, but you're not going to find any beauty queens down here but you can get your dick sucked 24/7 and you won’t break the bank doing it at 500 pesos.
On Cherry girls- you can fuck them if you offer them large sums of money, marry them or want to take care of them. But this doesn’t appeal to me but for some guys the thrill is in the chase that they could pop this virgin. Whatever turns you on.
Angeles City is what it is – you either love or you hate it.

However, I'm a Nubie with a question that has probably been answered a million times (hoping I don't get flamed or ignored). I've been searching the net for air fares from Philly, Penn to Manila for a few weeks and I can't find any price lower than $1,034 (OneTravel.com), which is too much of a chunk from of my P4P funds. Bangkok used to be much fun but has turned into a place that has turned its interest mainly to money. The girls, while beautiful, are more concerned about money then having a good time.
The AC girls have not yet reached that point is why I prefer AC.

On the people I generally find all Philippinos have a good attitude and my favourite city is Cebu, one reason I have been going there since 1987.
How's it going guys! I'd like to address Travelfox's question about "why we go to the RP time and time again." Although I don't speak for everyone, I'm sure some of you will agree to the following:
We go to the RP over Thailand primarily because it's much cheaper. Not only in terms of pussy (roughly $20 US dollars per bar-fine), but because the lack of shopping available to the average monger who sets foot in AC, RP. I rarely spent $75-$100 dollars a day in AC. I've gone to Thailand several times, and each time I've gone, I spend more money than I bugeted, mostly due to all the shiney, neat shit that catches your eye on the vendors tables in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Pattaya. It's a shoppers paradise! Nice, but it makes you spend too much money to quickly.
The Cherry-Girl thing employed at some of the Bars in AC. There are some Cherry-Girls working the bars there, but not many. In any event, the choice is yours. No one will twist your arm and force you to take a cherry-girl back to the hotel with you. While I was there, I took a Cherry along with a Pro and had a blast in the bed. I also never experienced any so called "Runners". All, the girls I bar-fined (except cherry-girl), new they were required to, and did give up the pussy as many times as I wanted it, albeit, some better than others!
Lack of decent eats: I'll agree with you there. Thailand is a regular Smorges Borg of all different types of resteraunts. But with all the fine restaurants in Thailand, again, it snatches money out of your budget to monger with. You won't find anything like it in AC, RP. You'll have to settle for burgers, fries, steaks, spagetti, lumpia, and other western style and Philippine foods. If you have a favorite recipe that you want prepared, ask the hotel staff and they might be able to help you out. I wanted Coconut Shrimp, a delicious Pinay dish that wasn't listed on the menu at my hotel. The hotel chef prepared some for me the following evening.
Lack of decently priced and available hotels: I didn't find a problem there. From US 20 dolars on up. What¡¯s the problem? That¡¯s not cheap enough? I booked a hotel and airport pick-up with easy on-line at the following website:

Lack of daytime activities in AC: I fixed that pretty quick when I was there. I just FUCKED. All the time! When I wasn¡¯t fucking I was looking for a girl to fuck, or sleeping. If you plan on staying longer than five days, you can hook-up with a girl for a GFE, and head to the beach area, or just ask her to show you around. Plenty to do!
The GO-GO Bars are the shit! I can¡¯t even address them here. Thailands GO-GO bar women were much more expensive than the girls in AC. No comparison if you ask me. AC GO-GO bars are much better!
So you see Travelfox, AC, RP is not as bad as you assume it to be. I really don¡¯t know how you came to the assumption that you did in your earlier post, but it was completely off the wall. I¡¯m a Thailand monger, converted to AC. I converted because I had much more fun at a much lower price in AC then I ever did in Pattaya or Bangkok. Of course, this is just my Opinion. Take it for what it¡¯s worth buddy, and don¡¯t knock-it until you try it! And as always, Keep it real guys!

PI vs. Thailand, huh? Well, I like both, but far prefer the Philippines (and with all due respect to those of you that like to branch out, I go to the PI to FUCK AND FUCK AND FUCK, and AC is the BEST for that if you care at all about budget and # of available girls), mainly because GFE is easier to come by, and at a cheaper price. Looks are up to everyone's personal opinion, and if you like long-legged skinny girls, you're better off looking for them in Thailand. Plenty of cuties in the Philippines, though, and they certainly don't have anything to apologize about re: the attractiveness of their women. If you found the women in the P.I. unattractive, well, to each their own.
As far as stuff to do in the daytime, fucking and drinking is a 24-hour sport in AC. If you're easily bored with those activities, you might wanna bring a good book or some DVD's with you or maybe find a friend to go with you to keep you company while you're scouting talent for the next round. Personally, fucking and drinking tend to keep me pretty busy. Oh, and since you can actually speak English to your rented girlfriend, it's a little bit easier for them to entertain you between rounds.
And as long as we're on the subject of daytime activities, what exactly is there to do in PATTAYA in the daytime? Go to the crocodile farm? They do have movies in the P.I. The theaters aren't first class with recliners, but with the tickets setting you back a whopping 70 pesos for the same damned flick they show in Thailand without the annoying subtitles, I don't think many would complain.
Re: cherry girls -- just ignore them? You'll get pretty good at spotting them soon after you arrive, and can always ask the waitress or mamasan ahead of time if you're unwilling to invest your $2.25 for a ladies drink without a good chance of scoring. Oh, another advantage for AC -- drinks are a LOT cheaper, and the money goes a lot further while barhopping as there just aren't that many tourists in town at any given time (and particularly NOW) to cut down. Spend 500 pesos in a bar at any given time and you're a freakin' WHALE!
I'll be back in the Phils for a couple of weeks in mid-July. I'll be in Thailand for at least a week before that.

I've spent time in Pattaya and Angeles. Pattaya is around twice as expensive for short time, but quality is somewhat greater and selection is far greater. And keep in mind that only Santos Street and some of the perimeter bars are in that 500 peso range. The main Angeles bars are all 1000 pesos. Add to that the more expensive accomodations in Angeles, and the much worse and more expensive food, it all comes to a rough parity. I found Manila inexplicably expensive compared to Bangkok - and also an unpleasant city.
I now live in Angeles, and have been for the past 3 months. I'm married to a filipina, but do go bar hopping often here. One bar I don't see much about is the Stampede Bar. Its on Perimeter Rd just down from the main area on Fields Rd. They have some real cuties there. One recent late afternoon visit, there was one lady stipped down to nothing on a table. She had been challenged to see if she could pick up a beer bottle with her pussy. Another place I really like is Treasure Island. The girls there have a good attitude and are really friendly. I(f you are going to be in AC in the next few weeks and want someone to show you around, just drop me a private message. It will give me a good excuse to go bar hopping.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET FROM MANILA TO AC?
I will be in Makati (Makati Shangrila Hotel) on business in a few weeks. I know the scene there moderately well from past trips, but never ventured up to AC. If I want to try it, what is the best way to get there? I'm not sure I want to try a jeepney or bus, and I'm willing to spend extra since most of my trip is paid for by my clients anyhow.
I reviewed recent postings and saw info on places to stay, but not on transportation. But I'd also like some suggestions on best places to stay if quality and access to young-but-legal girls is the main issue, not price.

No, you don't want a jeepney from Manila to AC (visions of the Bataan death march come to mind). From the Shangrila, it's probably best just to hire a cab. Should be around 1500 piso, less if you're a good negotiator. But, if you want to save a few, taxi down to Swagman in Ermita and take their "Fly-the-Bus" (Manila to AC 3 times a day).

IMNSHO, Central Park is the best value for a hotel stay in town. If and when they get the rooftop pool ready and going, the place will kick ASS over all other AC options. Right now the pool is the only thing they're lacking.
Re: transportation to AC from Manila, the most convenient (and cheapest, I might add) is to FLY. 2 airlines fly every weekday from the Domestic terminal to Clark, SoutheastAsian Air, AKA SEAir, and Asian Spirit airlines. Asian Spirit leaves Manila around noon, SEAir at 6 PM. The flights take a half an hour and the price is right around 1000 pesos. Beats the HELL out of paying a car service nearly twice as much and sitting in traffic the whole time.
I'll be in AC in 4 weeks for anyone wanting to meet up.

I stay at various hotels, what everyone says about all the hotels are right on-- last time was the Orchid but its getting a bit pricey for what I normally need. I have reservations at present for the Central, hopefully by then they will have the pool done?? As far as bars go, I have no favorites as they change all the time also so normally bar hop until I find a good comfortable one. About CENTRAL PARK Hotel
The rooms are clean although the budget rooms are quite smallish. However there is a great shortcoming with all of them:
You can't open the windows at all. There is no outside ventillation. Even the aircon just recycles the inside air. I tested it. In effect the air inside is all tepid, smelly, devoid of oxigen. As mosquitos love tepid water and tepid air they flourish in them airless cubicles. (Same situation opposite in Swiss Park Hotel). They are full of mosquitoes. Also it hard to get a good wholesome rest in spent, polluted air. (The sweat, makeup and cigarette smoke from previous residents and from last day is always present.)
In Angeles you need to be in top form but if you spend any extended time in these rooms you are guaranteed to become sick, have headaches, etc. Because of this I can not recommend either Central Park or Swiss park. At Clarkton at least the windows open to flush the tepid, spent air out.

I have stayed at the Central Park Hotel recently, and had no problems with mosquitos or tepid air. It is one of the better hotels in the Fields area. BBig, I live in AC and have not heard of any outbreak of STD's here in Angeles. But always be careful and use a condom.

The name of the place is BodyBliss Spa, next to Norma's Exchange (money changer). From the outside, it does not look like much, but once inside, it is tasteful, clean and bright. (It just opened in April. ) You first take a shower and the women (a little older) are very professional and very skilled. After arriving in AC, I usually buy my pesos at Norma's and then walk a short distance over to BodyBliss Spa. I have a bad back to begin with, so after a grueling session of punting, this place is guaranteed to get the kinks out. Try it, you will not be disapppointed!

Nice pool with 24 hour access. The rooms in front are far too noisy. Some rooms have strategically placed mirrors, but the lighting was a bit too dim to do much good. I actually asked the staff for extra lightbulbs, but it didn't help much.

Not lately but last Nov, I stayed in a standard for 1000p. Mine is situated on the front side of the hotel which faces the street with balcony. I didn't think it was that noisy. I don't know of any recent renovation but the room is ok for the price, nice staffs. I would consider staying there again because you don't have to fight for space like you do at the Orchid or any other hotels in the middle of ground zero. Have fun friend!

I was in America Hotel this week. It is fine. Book ahead and you can get a room for 880 Peso, with mirror and aircon. Ask for side room as they are quietest. Front rooms have traffic noise, back rooms those darned cockerals that the locals love so much. They start their morning mating chorus at 4AM. I guess they too have to have some action in AC!

I stayed in Blue Nile again last night. Its as good as ever but expensive. I only ever stay there for two or three nights so I don't mind. If money is no object then I recommend the suites. Nice rooms with big jacuzzis :) 3000 pesos per night though. The club in Blue Nile (Mistys) has about thirty girls at the moment but in my opinion no stunners. I liked DMZ Bar and had a couple girls from there. The great thing about AC is that there is a flat rate bar fine in all the bars and clubs. 1000 pesos.

@ X-Man. I believe its possible to do pinatubo - according to my lonely planet and info that i came across whilst i was over there - but its a big lump of a mountain and you would need to devote a good deal of time to it.
More achieveable is Mt. Arayat - the one you can actually see from angeles. We got scooters out, and went there - took us about 2 hours. There are guides there who will take you up. We arrived late and didnt have the right gear to go hiking so decided against. However, we were having fun with the bikes and took them up as far as we could - and carried on up this rought rocky trail.
Having benefited from the wealth of information offered by all of you via this forum, I believe its time to give something back to this board following my first visit to Angeles.
I travelled up to Angeles with a friend of mine, taking the ‘fly the bus’ from the Swagman Manila to the Swagman Angeles. We also stayed at both Swagmans – something that went against the advice offered by previous posters – and naturally they were right. The main selling point of staying in Swagman Manila was the free airport pickup – which was important to us both given that we had not been to an asian country – let alone the Philippines – before. My friend found the king of all roaches in his room before we left, and the rooms were a little bit on the skanky side.
Again, the convenience of having the ‘fly the bus’ service depart from the hotel was another reason for staying there. The intention was to take the fly the bus and then find a suitable hotel on arrival. However, the journey turned out to be the journey from hell – we spent 3 hours alone in manila traffic. It was very late when we arrived so we decided to stay that first night at Swagman Angeles. The rate was almost double that of some of the nicer and better located hotels off fields avenue – and again, the rooms weren’t great. If you’re a newbie you should be aware that Swagman Angeles is badly located – no where near fields avenue.
Having checked in, we headed down for the long anticipated angeles experience. The Swagman did offer a free trike ride down there. My first impressions of Fields were not good. I think it was the fact that it was so poorly lit and there didn’t seem to be as much going on as I had antipicated. First stop was the Roadhouse. Now, maybe I arrived there on the wrong night but the Roadhouse was crap. Lots of dancers, but they were dangerously young – regardless of what their IDs said. I wasn’t comfortable with interacting with girls under 18 – that’s just not my way…and I have to say that I was concerned at that stage as I wondered whether all the bars were like this one.
Furthermore, it was one of those bars where the girls just looked like they were bored out of their minds. We were the only customers in there, and as newbies, I think both of us were a bit freaked out with the amount of eyeballing we were getting. We drank up and moved out.
On to Bunny Ranch. This place seems to have gotten good reviews but I found the pressure for ladies drinks to be overbearing in here. Wasn’t my bag. I’ve made the mistake of not doing this trip report during the trip so my recollection of which bars we did and in what sequence is a little distorted. In so far as I can remember, we moved on to Blue Nile. Here at least, there was no pressure for ladies drinks – its directly the opposite – theres no pressure applied and theres considerable distance between bargirls and customers. Again, this is not always what one wants, but its nice to know that refuge is available here if you don’t want to peak too early on a night out, just wanting to have a few quite beers before the main event. My buddy barfined the waitress in this place and proceeded on to the hotel.
It was getting late, some of the bars were closing and I hadn’t found what I was looking for somehow. Between the epic journey from manila and being a little disorientated with my new location, I don’t think I had my head in gear at all that night. I ended up going home with a freelancer – for what was a mediocre experience.
Due to having the memory recall of a goldfish, I’ll have to run through my experiences of other venues in no particular order! The best daytime bars in my opinion were The Welcome Inn and the Dirty Duck. In fact, we visited the Welcome Inn in the evenings too and this has to go down as one of my best bars. One thing that I have learned is that peoples bar reviews are relative in so far as it depends on what they’re into. What one regards as great, another may regard as terrible. I caution anyone reading reviews to do so, but to take them with a pinch of salt. I found that some of the bars that got the worst reviews were great. Examples include the Jungle and the Kitten Club. The Welcome Inn didn’t have girls that were 10s but that’s not necessarily important to me – the girls had a great attitude, were very approachable and good fun. Two things make the trip during the rainy season more dangerous. Obviously Lahar but also steam exposion. Lahar flows still occur, but they are getting rare. But, that could change. The area has not been hit by a typhoon since the 91 erruption. A good one could dislodge enough material to cause major Lahar flows again. Common sense should keep you out of trouble.
Steam explosions are getting even more rare. These occur when rain water percilates down to still hot pockets. Some of the erruptions in the years following 91 were steam explosions. Can be awesome.
I attempted a summit in 1995. Way too soon. We overnighted in the baranguy of Sampang Bato and got an early (dawn) start up river. After about 10 hours we were stopped by a 150 ft (at least) ravine that ran east west for about three miles. Our guide swore (and knowing the guy, we believed him) that the ravine was not there the previous week. A detour was possible but it would have meant overnighting on the mountian. Not being equiped, we aborted.
We had a spooky encounter on the return trip. Following our footprints back, we ran right into a hillside with our footprints disappearing into the base. The hill was a good 60-70 ft high and a couple hundred meters long. A landslide had come down behind us ! It was an easy walk around it, but the "what if's" were flying.
To say the area was geologically active would be a gross understatement.
I would definately try again now. But use a guide. The route up is not intuitive and he will be able to point out safe spring water to drink. It's almost impossible to pack all the water you'll need.
Have fun. The area has an erie monochromatic beauty to it.

Just got back from AC for the second time. A few thoughts;
Oasis Hotel is fairly nice for Angeles. A bit more expensive, but more private and quiet. Nice compound and pool. Excellent food. Trike ride is a bit further, but it is really a non-issue. The bed was large and the bathroom slightly more functional than the Orchid IMO. Still, I found a cockroach in my bed one night. Ah, it's still AC!
It is impossible and needless to try to identify the "hot" bars of the moment as they are all essentially the same with different twists, bells and whistles. I had fun at Champagne, Misty's and the Flamingo. Hotties abound and if one bar doesn't do it for you, move onto the next! Barfine still 1000 ($19 US) pesos everywhere. Girls expect 500 pesos in the AM (per several of my barfines, although I overtipped as usual because it was so damn fun!). I got alot of mileage out of lingerie for those into that. Bring or buy in Manila (cheaper) whatever you are into. Just remember that nearly 90% are 32A and xs bottoms.
Less tourists than in February.

I recently went to AC and never tipped the girls in the morning. They never asked and left happy. Please do not start a tipping precedent. AC is not USA. It may become standardized. If a girl is outstanding, then don't tip her - reward her with another bar fine next day.

I'm a Colombian, and Thailandophile so my comments may be colored by that. I also speak Thai and Spanish which changes the experience greatly.
I have been to the Philippines twice. Angeles and then Puerto Galera.
Many of the criticisms of Thailand the RP resonate with me.
About Angeles. I remember arriving to Angeles and thinking "this is it?". A dusty funkhole that is geared really towards two things, and one of them seems to be getting massively wasted (again, not everyone but still). Nothing wrong with that, if that's your what you like. I didn't like it so much and found Puerto Galera a lot better (even though the selection was poorer, I did hook up with one total fox). I thought the quality of chicks in Angeles were a lot worse than Thailand. I am probably overly picky but I went bar to bar and the only ones I thought were worth a crap were those &*(% cherry girls or ones dating the owner. Nothing pissed me off worse than buying a drink for a girl that was essentially unavailable. Yes, you do have to ask each time and I found that annoying.
I think Thailand can take some knocks too. I think Bangkok has changed for the worse, and I'm surprised no one has mentioned the 2 am closing time for ALL the bars, discos, go-gos etc. This really puts a crimp in the 'all night party'. Yeah, there are some places that are open and Bangkok has a robust 'street scene' but I've been there when you could still run into an establishment at 5am for 'just one more time' and that is gone for the most part.
I also think the Thai women have gotten more mercenary, although most of my encounters are good (nothing beats a hot Latina in the sack IMHO!). You will get a lot more cuddling, soft kisses and shy lasses as opposed to the all-out monster fuck in Thailand (and yeah, I know there are exceptions!).
I think there are more things to do in TL, more open air bars in Pattaya, the beach, temples, shopping etc. Last time I was there I took my special gal up to Sukothai and Chiang Mai and had a total blast. I don't understand why someone would not choose to go to Thailand just because they can't avoid shopping. Hey, if you have a budget, just say no! Even Pattaya (which is seedy in itself) is a lot more interesting than Angeles. I loved PG in RP as it had some great diving and snorkeling even though there wasn't much of a beach. Very relaxing. But I digress (again).
Freelancers: I thought there was a freelancer disco in Angeles. Has that folded? I don't think that the bars are the only places to find chicks there, but more experienced people than I can speak to that. The freelancer scene in Thailand is amazing, and I've had the eldest daughter of my laundry woman, a maid, an internet chick, etc etc. All seems to be negotiable and many you'd think would not be available are for the right guy with the right approach. I dunno if this is true for RP but would imagine the predominance of Catholicism puts the kibosh on this.
Baht buses vs. trikes? No contest. The Angeles trike drivers are some of the rudest cheating bastards created by God. You pay the equivalent of a quarter to go pretty much wherever you want on the main drag in Pattaya. Even in Bangkok the metered taxis take out the rip off factor (unless they're rigged which IMHO is rare).
I think poon costs are higher in Thailand, although again, if you have a grasp of the language you will pay less (but some chicks won't go with you because you 'know too much'). I was paying standard 500 bt short time (or 1000k long time) for Pattaya beach road chicks, but taking a Thailand go-go girl will cost you minimum 1500 (bar and girl fee) short time and many times 2000k all inclusive. Freelancers are higher in Bangkok and it is getting harder and harder to find ones under 1000k. Compare this to 1000k all night for Angeles. Hotels are about the same. I don't pay much over 1000k a night and usually get a good room in Pattaya or Bangkok (you can pay less, and some places a little off the beaten path will run you about 400-500 night in Pattaya). If you want to go more upscale you will pay more, but judging what Misty's charges for their suites, it sounds like Angeles is built the same way.
I'd like to go back to RP but would probably hit Angeles only for a short bone-a-thon, but would love to revisit Puerto Galera and perhaps Cebu.
Sorry this is a little disjointed. While I have personal preferences, I don't have anything personal for or against a place. These are just my (admittedly limited) observations of Angeles vs. a place I know so much better.

I would tend to agree with this for the most part. Angeles is a dusty fleapit of a town - with one line of entertainment only. Thats not to say that i didn't enjoy my time there - and I will be going back.
However, I took the same policy on my recent first trip to the pi - going to Angeles first - then Puerto Galera/Mindoro - then back to Angeles. Its a case of each to their own, but i couldn't sustain myself in Angeles for two weeks.
We all enjoy what Angeles has to offer, but my personal preference is to combine this with what the rest of the pi has to offer. Mindoro is a beautiful island and i'm glad I made the decision to incorporate it into my trip. Next time round, I will be doing the same thing - but spending some of the time in Northern Luzon, checking out the Rice Terraces, maybe some whitewater rafting, climb Mount Mayon, etc.
Its a shame that Angeles isnt a coastal town with some sandy beaches - it would just give it another angle.

I’ve been reading this forum for many, many years and thought I’d start contributing. I’m a lazy s.o.b. so I expect my posts to be infrequent unless a surge of energy comes over me.
I landed in Thailand for the first time the same day Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait so many years ago. I remember watching the invasion from my hotel room somewhere on Sukumvit. I was mongering with almost no knowledge of what to do except for what my guidebook mentioned – two pages on Patpong. This was all pre-internet days.
I’ve since traveled to the Philippines and Thailand many times and while I don’t know much about much, I do know a few things. I thought I’d put together a list of things I’ve learned, many of them the hard way.
Most of my trips in recent years involve purchasing a plane ticket that is as follows: The front half of the ticket is USA to Manila. The return half of the ticket is Bangkok to USA. I do this on Japan Airlines as this type of ticket is not possible on most other airlines. I’m sick of Japan Airlines, but it’s the only airline that accommodates my needs.
The first full day I am in Angeles, I go straight to Swagman Travel on Fields and get a one-way ticket from Manila to Bangkok. Generally, I stay in Angeles for 8 days and Bangkok for 9 days. I used to fly Air France, which was great as I had miles with them, but they stopped that flight. I’ve been flying Air Egypt since then. I don’t think of myself as racist, but it’s a little disconcerting being the only son of a ***** on the plane without a towel around my head. But the food’s great and the airfare’s cheaper than Air France. My other complaint is that of the 250 people on the plane, 248 of them smoke cigarettes. Yes, they allow smoking on that flight.
Once I arrive in Manila, which is fairly late in the evening, I always have a driver waiting for me from the Orchid Hotel. They’ve got a pretty good system worked out with the driver approaching me with my name written on a hotel business card. Apparently there is the possibility that an unscrupulous person could see my name written on a placard, recopy the name on his own sign and corral me into his car and I would be taken away to never be heard from again. Thus all the cloak and dagger stuff to meet my driver. I’ve followed this system many, many times and never had a problem.
I’m aware there are cheaper ways to get to Angeles from the Manila Airport, but after many hours of traveling, IMHO a private driver and car waiting for me is the only way to travel.
Although there are cheaper options for hotels in Angeles, I like the Orchid for a number of reasons.
1 Location, location, location. You’re pretty much in the heart of the action.
2 Great pool. Lots of fun with girls in that pool.
3 Safe in room. I like the idea of entering a room with a girl and (in full view of the girl) opening the safe, placing my watch, and wallet in the safe and locking it. When I stay in a room without a safe I use strong combination locks on my suitcases. I’ll place my valuables in the suitcase and lock the combination lock. I have never been ripped off and I don’t make a big deal out of it, I just lock everything of value in view of the girl as soon as I enter. A key lock would not have the same effect as she only needs the key while you’re sleeping.
A quick hotel story:
On a trip to Angeles about 4 years ago, I stayed at the Phoenix hotel. After a night in a small room with a tiny window I inquired about other rooms in the hotel. The lady pointed out the “V.I.P Suite” which was only about USD$15 more per night. I looked at the room and took it. The room was huge with a living room area and a Jacuzzi in the bathroom. I couldn’t wait to jump into the Jacuzzi with an lbfm.

I turned on the shower and we took turns rinsing each other as best we could to get rid of the fucking bugs. I remember her pulling apart my ass cheeks to rinse and remove, but there was nothing sexual about this encounter. Totally freaked out. As soon as we were mostly clean, I was on the phone yelling about an emergency in my room.

Just got back from A.C. two weeks ago. This was my third trip but first in 3 years so I felt like a newbie again. I had the time of my life and I have this board to thank for that. I used alot of the info I got from here and it worked out great. I flew into Clark and an hour after landing I had checked in to the Orchid, was in a club with a San Mig in my hand and surrounded by beautiful girls. Can't beat that!
There are several clubs that I had fun in but Champagne, Blue Nile and Blue Nile Executive were probably my favorites. Except for the guy trying to sing at Camelot it was a good club too. I didn't take a girl from there but they were alot of fun in the club.

Nov/Dec is perfect in terms of weather. It is high season. In years past this could mean lots of fellow mongers. But probably not an issue these days. House Hunting! I want to look around the Manila area for a house or condo to rent. Not right in Manila but within maybe a half days drive. I think I would like a gated communiyt that caters to ex-pats. They don't have to be Americans but I do want the added security.
I will only have a couple weeks this next trip and I don't know anyone there so how do I get started? Should I be talking to real estate agents? If I don't find anything I like near Manila I will check out another area next trip - maybe Cebu or Daveo. I am at a loss how to proceed.

Sounds like AC is best for you. It is only 2 hours by bus from Manila now that the highway is complete. Also there are so many expats living in AC you should be quite safe. Further, AC is cheap and also has a great low cost nightlife! You should go there and talk to the expats who live there. They will give you the information inside track and will probably know what is available.
While AC has a decent nightlight, it is super boring during the day time. I would like to live close to the beach. While I was there I saw a show on properties that are around the PI, unfortunately I forgot the website name.

You might want to look at houses on base at Subic as well. Very secure, close enough to AC for fun and the ocean makes it, for me anyway, a far better choice for full time living.

i appreciate your suggestions on other airlines, but to paraphrase michael corleone, “i keep trying to get out and they keep sucking me back in!” it’s the same with an airline. you start getting frequent flyer miles and have to stick with that particular airline to accumulate miles. i even became a member of their holier-than-thou club. japan airlines has three levels, the platinum level, the gold level and the jerk-off level. i am presently a member of the jerk-off level. initially, when i received the card in the mail, i was excited. i thought i could use the card to get into (jal) japan airlines lounges while waiting for flights, get free upgrades, etc. as it turns out, at the jerk-off level, the only tangible benefit i see is i get to take an extra piece of luggage when i check in. balikbayan box city here i come!
i have never given serious consideration to flying to thailand first. i’m not 100% sure why, but as others have noted on this board, there are five things to do in angeles:
1. fuck
2. bar hop / drink
3. hang at swimming pool
4. repeat #1
5. repeat #2
after all this culture, i’m ready for bangkok. much more to do. additionally, i had a special thing in bangkok and i like to finish there. (she loves me long time.)
although most who read these posts appear to be long time mongers who know what to do, my observations in angeles lead me to make a few suggestions to those who may be new to mongering in the philippines (or anywhere).
free advice (and worth as much):
personal hygiene – for christ’s sake, shower, shave, comb your hair, brush your teeth and use a mouthwash! i realize in the end, all you really need is pesos, but my god, i’ve seen and smelled some awful things in bars on fields avenue. i don’t want to start a flame war with another country, but i met a couple of guys from ireland on a recent trip who never heard of irish spring. i felt bad for their girls. the guys who are bugging you to buy peanuts or have your picture taken with the girls should offer breath mints. i’d ring the bell if everyone got a breath mint some days.
without exaggerating, i guess i brush my teeth and gargle at least 8 times a day when i’m on a trip. i bring one of those drums of listerine from costco with me. it’s gone by the time i’m traveling home. if i get up in the middle of the night to take a [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140), i brush and gargle. i know it’s excessive, but it puts me at ease.
personal dignity – speaking of the guys who sell peanuts, t-shirts, maps, etc. i remember an incident that occurred about three years ago. every day as i walked past brown sugar towards margarita station the same guy would ask me to buy a t-shirt. day in and day out, he’d ask me to buy either a t-shirt or a vcd movie. it was irritating to no end. couple that with the peanut hawkers who bug you every 45 seconds in the bar and it gets really annoying. finally, at one point, i snapped at the guy.
in a very quiet, calm, humble voice he said “i’m only trying to make a living sir. i’ve got a family.” i felt like a 200 pound piece of human excrement. life dealt me circumstances and opportunities this man does not have. i was a smug asshole and that’s not how i try to live my life. since that day, i try to treat everyone with dignity and respect. a simple no thank you to any offers. i thank god for my circumstances and try not to take them for granted. i even buy something once in a while. all honest work has dignity.
this dignity extends to the girls as well. i have fun and tease and play, but i never demean or degrade or treat any girl anything less than how i’d like to be treated. with extremely rare exception, i’ve had nothing but great luck with girlfriend experiences and fun, happy girls. i think john lennon got it right, “the love you take is equal to the love you make”.
on a side note, has anyone ever noticed the black vests worn by the guys that read “peanut vendors”. this is hilarious. the whole reason i’m in angeles is to buy peanuts. i love peanuts. the problem is, every time i tell them i want to buy a couple peanuts i end up with a paper tray of salty snacks. must be a language thing.
choosing a girl (or girls):
don’t pick the first girl you see. i personally break this rule every single time i go into a bar, but it sounds like a good rule. i endorse this policy though i’ve never followed it.
if you have special needs or requests, find out ahead of time what the girl does or does not do. saves time and aggravation later in the room. best practice is to get the mamasan involved in exactly what you want to do. some girls don’t give head and that’s a real issue with me. (more on that later.) i remember bar fining bo derek from the blue nile executive club. the bar fines are greater at the executive club than elsewhere, but those girls have special pussies. it’s true, just read their brochure.
btw, getting into the exclusive blue nile executive club is a real coup. the strict criteria to get into this private establishment keeps out any male who is not upright (mostly) and breathing.
anyway, bo was new to the bar scene and though she was not a virgin, she was new to the bar and never went with a customer. now my bulla bulla antenna immediately went up. a girl who has never been with a customer in angeles is about as common as a solid bowel movement in thailand. but after talking to her and her friend, they had me convinced. i called the mamasan over and told her i was a nice guy and i wanted long time, (tonight, in the middle of the night and again in the morning). i also wanted head. mamasan talked to bo, explained in detail and the party was on. no problems once we were back in the room. it’s easier to discuss these things ahead of time rather than later.
another side story:
i had a several year layover between trips about 5 years ago. as i was a little out of touch, i went with a buddy who was traveling regularly to angeles. he felt an obligation to make sure i had fun and was not disappointed. (as if being disappointed was possible in angeles.) for 15 hours in airports, airplanes and a private car, he kept telling me “make sure she sucks dick! you have to make sure ahead of time she sucks dick. you’ve got to ask ahead of time! you have to!”
this guy has an unhealthy obsession with blow jobs. but he had me whipped into a frenzy.
the first club we walk into was aptly named “the club”. naturally, the first girl i look at is a black haired beauty with sparkling eyes and a great smile. i motion her to sit by me.
the first thing out of my mouth, and i do mean the very first thing i say, no shit is:

back to choosing the right girl. with girls outnumbering guys by a huge number, i see no reason to try to barfine a girl who has no interest in me, pretty as she may be. if i look at a girl and she looks away and vomits, i move on to the next girl. if she makes eye contact, smiles, does not vomit, all the better.

at the end of the night, i’ll take my girl and occasionally another girl or four back to the room. the girls are generally happier when out with their friends and me rather than just me. now i don’t blow the budget nightly with a large group of girls, but i do at least once or twice per trip. the cost is factored into my budget.

across from the orchid inn is the bar tom cats. i was stopping in there from time to time, playing footsie with a honey-ko whose name is cone-shaped tits. cone-shaped tits had a great face and loved to dance, and i bar fined her. cone-shaped tits and i left tom cats and went next door. i don’t remember that bar’s name.
unbeknownst to me, cone-shaped tits used to dance there and had many friends at this bar. before long, lots and lots of girls and the mamasan are around me and we are all doing body shots. this was my heavy party night. cone-shaped tit’s cousin danced there and was a recently defrocked cherry girl.

as the three of us walked to brown sugar i explained to them that i spent more money than i already planned to spend for the evening. as a consequence, i would happily buy them drinks all night but i was no longer buying drinks for their friends.

we walk into brown sugar, have a seat, and not 3 minutes later, three of cone-shaped tits friends leave the stage and join us. another minute later, three shots of tequila appear in front of these three girls. as the waitress attempts to put this check in my cup, i take the check, hand it back to the waitress and tell her i didn’t order the tequila, i’m not paying for it.
the waitress looks confused. she tells me cone-shaped tits ordered the tequila. i tell the waitress to give cone-shaped tits the bill. cone-shaped tits starts crying. the waitress gets the barrel-chested nazi mamasan. i tell the mamasan i didn’t order the tequila and i’m not paying for it. mamasan tells me cone-shaped tits ordered it. i tell mamasan to either take away the tequila or give cone-shaped tits the bill because i sure as fuck ain’t paying for it.
the three girls drink the tequila, no shit. right in the middle of all this. now the tequila’s gone. no more tequila.
cone-shaped tits jumps up crying and runs out of the bar. i tell mamasan i’ll pay for the drinks i ordered, do that and leave the bar with recently-defrocked cherry girl. we head back to tom cats. barrel-chested mamasan is bitching at me the whole way out of the bar.
as we enter tom cats, cone-shaped tits is in the corner crying on mamasan’s shoulder. i go to the papasan and tell him i want my money back for the bar fine.
“why?” he asks. i tell him i spent too much money at the bar next door and told the girls i was buying no more drinks for her friends.
papasan says “well, i’ll tell you mate, it’s really not my problem that you spent too much money at a bar.”
“you’re 100% right” i tell him. “but let me ask you this: if i bar fine one of your girls am i required to buy drinks for her friends?”
“no, of course not” papasan replies.
“well, i refused to buy drinks for her friends and she ran away. i want my bar fine money back.”
“okay mate, that makes sense, but let me talk to her first.”
after talking to the girl, he comes back to me and says no refund as she gave me a blow job.

thinking quickly i realize that i did not pay for the mirrors, but my head is attached to the rest of my body. to hell with the mirrors, i’ll save my head instead. i hit the deck. out of nowhere a muscular black guy appears and tackles the screaming insane girl to the ground just as she’s about to fire the cue ball. the ball bounces harmlessly to the ground.
papasan says she’s drunk, he’ll calm her down and tells me to come back tomorrow to talk about my bar fine refund. i leave with recently defrocked cherry girl who looks like she just witnessed a decapitation.
“are you ok to go back to my room?”
“no, i like go home.”
i drag her back to her bar next door, tell mamasan that the girl has changed her mind and i want my barfine back. mamasan says i had the girl for a couple of hours so she can refund only 50% of my money.
i’m tired, got a headache and am pissed. i take what she gives me.
i go to a neutral bar (where no girl is terrified of me) and barfine god knows who, go back to the room and pound out my frustrations.
i never went back to tom cats the next day as i wanted to get back into a fun mode. i never got any money back from that bar fine.
believe it or not, i went to tom cats 2 months later on another trip and barfined cone-shaped tits. straight back to the room this time and had a blast. we even laughed about the past incident. i’m not one to hold a grudge.

Always seem to get a bad cough and/or flu in AC. Maybe it's the Pinatubo dust. Try the Sabang/Puerta Galera area - good nightlife in Sabang (on a much smaller scale), it's on the ocean, reasonable prices and close to Manila.
As alternatives, there are large 'communities' or Aussies, Poms, etc in and around thew Subic area, or La Union - although not as accessible - is on the sea and has 'communities' and a nightlife.

i recieved the "margarita station" newsletter this last week. thought it might be of interest to some of you (i've edited their sales parts and the pictures out).
angeles/balibago news:
removal of the squatter shacks on fields ave! driven by a plan to renovate astro park which will be funded by shoe mart, the city directed that all the shacks on the north side of fields avenue from the railroad tracks to the police station (across from sub delicious) be removed by 28 june 2004. after several meetings, the owner of these shacks were given two options. under "option a" the city would demolish all the shacks and the businesses would be allowed to rent prebuilt stalls in another area of the city. under "option b" the stall owners would demolish their own stalls and then be allowed to rebuild their own stalls in a predesignated area elsewhere. you guessed it, the owners voted 100% for option b. three weeks after the deadline i'm not holding my breath to see anyone dismantle their shacks. [note: on the 20th of july the store owners were given until the 27th to vacate their stalls]
a 7-11 open has opened a few doors down the street from margarita station. time will tell if they can compete with jj's large, newly remodeled store which is also open 24 hours and almost the same distance from margarita station in the opposite direction.
speaking of jj's grocery, they have opened the first two floors of their new building and all of the old building. construction is continuing on the 3rd & 4th floors of the new building. work appears to have slowed down, possibly due to new safety measures imposed after a worker fell off one of the upper stories.
c' italian dining -- this last week rumors started circulating that the swiss chef at c' italian dining was trying to sell his share so he could return to switzerland. these rumors circulated by a local expat nicknamed "fox news" (i report and you decide) are absolutely not true. this restaurant has quickly become a favorite of filipinos & expats alike. i don't recommend you visiting "c" for a cheap bowl of spaghetti, but if you want premium italian entrees, a large wine selection and top service & atmosphere, this is the place for you. plan on p400-600 per person for your meal and more if you drink wine like red fox or our retired manager "uncle roger".
mr. frosty is a well established angeles city fast food chain. they recently opened a branch on fields ave on the corner of fields ave and raymond street (going to santa maria subdivision). they specialize in reasonable priced meals and of course frostiness. the have also opened a branch next to the pure gold store in mabalacat.
the pizza zone: a guy that was well known around the bars in ermita in the 80's and operated a club in angeles city in the early 90's has resurfaced at friendship operating a pizza & italian food restaurant. his pizza is a little smaller than some of the other outlets serve for about the same price, but it has a real nice italian spice taste that has made it pretty popular. well, there goes my attempt to diet this week, but i had to give it a try before sending the newsletter. i really liked the basil or whatever herb they used and i'll order it again soon. so, next time you are hungry, give them a try by calling 0919-592-5902.
new cable tv channels: just in case the majority of filipinos hadn't made up their minds about americans, the local cable company has added 2 new channels. channel 26 is a south african english series channel (complete with some fun commercials). the highlight of this channel is the jerry springer show three times a day! wow, does this show really portray america? if that isn't good enough, channel 33 is "reality tv" with great shows like "cheaters" where a team follows a male or female suspected of cheating on their partner.
bars:
club lancelot will celebrate their first anniversary on friday the 23rd of july. as usual for this group they will have free finger food, dance shows and lots of prizes for the customers.
butterfly bar has been sold and renamed butterfly rocks. it has been cleaned up (not really renovated as it is the same lay out with a new paint job). but, the big news is they have a full staff and it isn't a bad place to have a drink now.
big guys bar next to butterfly lost their lease and has been taken over by don from suckers. i thought he would probably sanitize the facility and hold an exorcism to chase away the presence of the odd gay ghost. but, he has leveled the old structure and i'm sure by building from scratch he will make it a club worth a visit. years ago this was the monster rock which was ghastly, but before that it was a home style club much like the clubs in the 80's along 7th street.
gecko bar is still a great club. they have an energetic staff with lots of dancers. the club is spotlessly clean, good music, and mommy fe all make this a multiple drink stop.
champagne bar still has the best line-up in angeles city. despite limited seating, this is still a solid top ten club. if there is any other negative here besides limited seating, it is that they have too many dancers on the stage (duh...is this really a negative??).
bananita's has to be one of the most under-rated clubs in town. many customers stick their heads in, don't see any customers and they just move on. hey, stop and have a drink and enjoy some cute girls wearing the best costumes in town.
cherry bar is jerry from jerry's cafe first venture into the bar business. not a bad little place to go for an early drink (opens at 11 am with dancers) at a reasonable price. it is located a few blocks west of margarita station just past wing walkers (formerly blue k), & stampede.
blue nile executive bar although this has never become the exclusive members club that was envisioned, it remains the busiest club on the street. now this club doesn't have the best line up in town and they have the most expensive drinks of any club, so what is the attraction? for me, it really seems to be a combination of several things: daddy bruce, the attitude of the girls, and the way the dancers are not separated very far from the customers like they are in blue nile and some other clubs.
insomnia is doing pretty good since it was remodeled. i like the staff, the seating, the lighting, and the music. if you haven't been there lately, i highly recommend you add it to your next bar hop.
cambodia club was recently remodeled slightly. i don't think anyone misses looking at the bartenders that were previously blocking everyone's view of the lower stage. now if they will just remove the ramp between the upper stage and the upstairs seating area we might be able to see the dancers on the upper stage!
liquor box: i had a write up prepared about this club and the great deal they were offering on private "lock-in" parties despite normal high local drink prices, but as i was putting the finishing touches on this newsletter i received word from a credible source that the rights to the club was just sold.
wet seals was sold and the building is being demolished. plans call for a 3 story building to replace the existing structure. rumors are it will be something new like a go-go bar and an internet cafe. :-)
stinger bar is closed.
cleopatra's is under renovation again!! the impressive front has been removed and something new is going up.
club amore is closed.
silver bullet bar has closed, but another small club has opened right across the street.
the club. not sure about this one, but it looks like it has been renamed d' fields fun club based upon a new sign, but it still has the club by the front door. let's hope they don't have an identity crisis like the former ben luck--ben lucky bar!
hotel news
central park hotel is nearing 100% occupancy rates. we have had nothing but compliments about the reasonable rates, clean rooms and great centralized location.
natclia apartelle (located between mr. frosty and the club on fields ave) will be open sometime in august. all the rooms (12) have kitchens and are finished with real quality furniture. the rooms facing fields ave have balconies and will be $35 per night. the rooms to the rear are a little smaller (but still plenty big) and much quieter. these rooms will be only $25 per night. they have a huge open air jacuzzi on the roof perfect for a party. they will offer a 20% discount for stays from 7-30 days and an additional discount for stays over 30 days. one-two weeks before they open i will post photos of their rooms on our hotel pages.
blue nile executive hotel is doing well for those that want to be right on fields ave, but want a little (ok, a lot) more opulence. you can see the rooms and make reservations through their website at: http://www.asianfields.com/public/

l'tino inn (located in the rear of insomnia has finished remodeling their rooms.
the swiss chalet is located where lollipop bar used to be (between santos street and the alley leading into central park. they only have a few rooms, but the reports on the rooms and the restaurant (same staff as the old black jack restaurant) are all very positive.
other news:
new minimum wage. up to 35% raise in minimum wage has been proposed for central luzon. this won't directly effect many businesses in angeles because most businesses here do not pay the minimum wage. but, it will seriously effect the hotels and places like margarita station. with 100 employees the maximum proposed change to the minimum wage would mean an immediate increase in our payroll of over $4,500 (us) per month. with a similar impact at the electric company, grocery stores and other businesses that do pay minimum wage we can expect a increase in electric rates, groceries, etc, etc, etc...
rip: sadly, last month we learned of the death of arthur, the old guy in the wheelchair that always had a salute for people he recognized. i had raised about $150 toward a new wheelchair for art. since i hadn't purchased it yet, i'll be getting with the people that donated to coordinate refunds.
fashion corner: despite what you may have seen on the streets of angeles city, our fashion consultant assures us the following combinations do not go together and should be avoided:

i was recently approached by the bangkok based author, christopher g. moore to assist him in donating some of his books to soldiers in iraq & afghanistan. in a round about way i was able to get in contact with a nco in okinawa japan that was handling shipments from there to the central distribution facility in iraq. next, with help from a senior official at jusmag thai and the us embassy we got an ok to ship the books from bangkok to kadena ab (okinawa) for free. so the first two boxes containing 150 c.g. moore novels (including some of his latest works) are on their way to the troops in iraq. once we get word they have arrived he plans to send some more boxes to afghanistan. thanks christopher! anyone interested in his novels can get more information at www.cgmoore.com i highly recommend his latest novel, pattaya 24/7 as a great read.

About 4 or 5 of the squatter stalls along Fields Ave have actually been taken down by their owners in the last 24 hours. Word on the street is that there is another meeting between the city and the stall owners this afternoon. FAREWELL / RIP: When I did the newsletter I forgot to include the passing of a unique, regular Angeles City visitor, Daddy Dominic from Las Vegas. Dominic was a short, portly guy that loved to get up on the stages in town and do a dance number to "Living Next Door To Alice." For his age and size he moved around the stage/dance floors with a unique grace. He enjoyed life fully and it with regret that I now report he died of a heart attack last month in Las Vegas.
Was at the Blue Nile Exec 2 months ago and had the Mamasan take this shot.

Effective just this past week, the barfine for all clubs here has increased from P1000 to P1200. One of the bar girls told me a story of some jerk (unfortunately he was an American), who bitched, wined, and complained all the way to the club manager--but to no avail. So please, save your coins, and pay the going rate without giving the USA a bad name. If you can't come up with the additional P200 (US $3.57), do us all a favor and stay home in your trailer or cave. Thanks!

The bar owners should have a wake up call. Increasing bar fines actually reduces their intake. Interesting that these days, in Manila, the Edsa Entertainment Complex is pretty deserted while the LA Cafe a few blocks away (no bar fines) is packed with girls and mongers. In Thailand the same phenomena is happening with the large number of Bier Gardens packed with girls and go-go bars doing badly (bar fine problem). In Burgos Street Makati where bar fines are a joke, most girls do 'sneak out' after their shifts, earning the bar owners zero. The girls in Burgos often complain to me saying the bar fines make it very hard for them to score and they would rather work elsewhere. Add to this, of course, increasing bar fines will merely make the corrupt officials demand an even greater take. Sounds like poor business to me, especially when visitors are already flooding into Thailand (20 million next year!) and avoiding the Philippines due to security and poor infrastructure concerns.

Poor business practices seldom make any rational sense. These EDSA clubs do not realize that we now live in a global ecomomy. They will eventually kill the goose which lays (no pun intended) the golden eggs, as mongers will seek better value for their dollars in other places just like you described.
Here in Guam, we have the same problem: f..ked up infrastructure, dirty public beaches and facilities, corrupt local govnt officials, and sky high prices. Instead of cleaning up their act, the locals here will continue to run this island into the ground (like the P.I.) until they choke the last yen out of the last Japanese tourist. The hotel industry is so desperate here on Guam, now that there is a casino gambling initiative on the November Ballot, but is doesn't stand a dog's chance because the RC Church is dead set against it.

I just got back from 10 days in Angeles. Since someone asked, I will confirm that barfines in some (perhaps most) bars has gone from 1,000 pesos to 1,200 pesos (e.g. Blue Nile, Kitten Club) (and the Blue Nile Executive Club went from 1,100 to 1,250 pesos). I suppose this makes sense in the larger scheme of things, since the prices haven't moved for a few years now, but the odd thing is that some bars are still 1,000 pesos. 200 pesos is not that big a difference, but it sure feels good finding a fine girl for the "bargain" price.
Is there a Korea consulate in AC? If so, where. Phone number? Thanks!

Scuba, Manila is not really a rat race as long as you take a friend with you and are willing to pay a bit extra cash. A few years ago I needed to extend and told my friend to tell the counter person I had $20.00 for some fast service and I was in and out of there in 45 minutes. I have read many of the pros and cons if arriving at the airport very late, midnight, Oct 15th in my case. Go straight to AC or stay a night night in Manila?
My question is if I was to arrange a car and go straight to AC, will there still be choices and bars open? Will most hotels hold a reservation if you tell them?

If you get a ride at the Airport only use the Nissan vans, it's a risk for anything else. Expect them to ask for Php2500, offer php1500 and hope for a neg. price around php2000. The toll has gone up on the north toll way and fuel prices are up. Use to be able to get one for php1600 but don't expect it.
I would suggest you go to the below site and set up a pick up and maybe stay at the place, it's a great hotel in the middle of the action. I've used them many times and they are always there.

Southeast Asia Travel Report / Second Leg
CAVEAT to those of you who are in love with the Phillipines, this post is not intended to offend or inflame you. It is offered as information. It is a candid personal expression of my experience from which you may, or may not, derive any benefit or insight.
This was a 5 week trip inculding 1 week in Thailand, 2 weeks in the Phillipines, and 2 weeks open for travel at whim. Bangkok was my headquarters. I booked Air France BKK-MNL-BKK $214 inclusive. Good airline. Nice comfortable flight which had been booked in advance from the States.
I booked a standard room in the Park Central Hotel for $25 per night. They arranged for my airport pickup. He was one hour late. They are very friendly and accomodating. I had a few minor problems which I will mention only because it was aggrivating they were not fixed. My bathroom light was about 10 watts. It was too romantic to shave by and I asked that it be replaced. They said right away. After the second day I fixed it myself by taking a bulb out of the hall. It was too large for the fixture, so I had a bare bulb hanging from the wall for the duration. My toilet backed up one morning. I asked that it be fixed. They said right away. I returned 8 hours later and it hasn't been repaired. I grabbed the maid and asked her for a plunger. I fixed it myself. Had I not of I suppose it also would have been backed up for the duration.
I found the quality of the food to be substandard and sanitation to be questionable. Margarittaville became my choice for morning coffee, breakfast, lunch and late nite snacks. They have a large selection of American and Asian foods at reasonable prices. Their sanitation appeared to be the highest standard in the community. The Swiss Chalet was by far the best available. It is what I would consider the only true restaurant in Angeles City. It is air conditioned, clean, ambiant, with true continental cusine.
I ate there every night. I would consider staying in their hotel.
I found service to be very lacking in all establishments. They try very hard but seem to always foul things up. They are very friendly too, in fact overly friendly. They want to call you by your Christian name and make you feel like you are part of the family. I think this is just a ploy so that when they mix up your order or spill your drink you will more easily forgive them. There were times in Margarittaville when there was one server for each patron. They were very prompt with service but forget about trying to get a refill on your coffee or another bottle of beer.
Bring cash. I had a credit card, an atm card, and $1,000 in backup emergency cash. I arrived on a Sunday and none of the atms at the airport were working. My driver took me to every bank in the Angeles City and they were all out of order or out of cash. On Monday I found out the atms severely restrict the amount you may take each transaction. This way they can extract multiple transaction fees. The hotel did take my credit card.
Mongering was really third rate. I truely believe that these girls have been lured here under the false pretense they will find a rich foreign husband. Remember, this is a Catholic country with strong family values. Once they learn you are only interested in short time love, their enthusiasim quickly diminishes, both in and out of the sack. On 2 different occassions I tried the gogos, each time buttering up the Mamasan with drinks to insure the best date, and each time ending up with bum lays. Then I tried Santos Street. Here I got what I needed in very short order without all the pleasantries. A memorable time was had several evenings in a small kareoke bar on a short street between the Orchid and Park Central hotels. I drank there one night and got very friendly with the 2 girls who owned it. The next night I put the moves on one of them and was quickly informed they were lesbian lovers, but not to worry as there were plenty of other girls available. It seems some of the gogo girls are bi and come here before, during and after shift. I was introtuced to one and we made a date for the next day. My only great lay for the trip.
Within 48 hours of arrival I decided Angeles City was not my cup of tea. I somehow felt like I was in Mexico. I decided to cut my losses but it took me 4 days of bureaucratic red tape and $400 to get a ticket back to Bangkok. And Swagman travel would only take cash.
I should have come here before going to Thailand. It's kind of like having desert before dinner. It had been thirty years since I was last here on a 24 hour layover at Clark. Unlike MacArthur, it will be another 30 years before I return.

However many of us enjoy the place regardless of malfunctioning ATM's, occasional bad food, etc. but we factor these things into our plans and, as a result, it is for many a great place for a predictable feed of pussy, food, beer, friends and the occasional few hours of shut-eye.
Many of my friends enoy the temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Each to his own my friend.

I find travel to be the lottery in reverse. Many times things worked out and occationally, not. Maybe that's what happened to you in the PI. I've been there many times and, knock on wood, nothing bad has ever happened
Every country has its plus and minus and it all has to do with the culture. Philipinos are laid back and easy going and the services mirrored that, but the plus side is they are friendly and genuine. I really disagree with you on that.
See If you travel like a king and expect first class service of everything, don't go to countries like that, go to the service oriented countries like the west, where everything is prompted attached with the fake smiles implying "you better tip me well or I'll spit in you food," where people are so alone and depressed that the only way to make them feel better is to go eat in some restaurant and expect full attention. (This is not directed at you Norm, just letting out my frustration about the Western culture, or lack of it, as the whole, I can do that because I live in one my whole life and disgusted with phoniness)
I find the opposite in the PI, that's why I keep returning. Again, to each his own, and a wish you better luck next time, if you return.
Norman: No offense taken. If i may add my thoughts, it appears from what you have written that AC/the pi is not for you - and you yourself have come to this conclusion it would seem.
There are a couple of things that any traveller needs to take into account when in the pi. First and foremost, you are not in the west - and all previous preconceptions about how things should be must be forgotten.
As an example, you mentioned refills...this is an american phenomenom - I have personal experience of americans reactions to a 'no refills' policy when they were stationed at a european location i once worked at.
Ref. Service: I found the level of service to be one of the most amazing things about the pi. It was excellent - and sometimes too intense. I will never forget buying a pair of shoes and having 5 people assist in the process - where else would you get such service.
You mentioned your discontent with your hotel and i dont doubt this at all. We had similar experiences but there are a couple of things you need to bear in mind. Firstly, your not paying top dollar at 25 a night. Secondly, your in AC and its more than rough around the edges - you can't expect to get five star hotel service in this place - although, if your in the know, you will find a hotel that more than fits the bill. We changed a couple of times until we were content.
Thats all I wanted to say really. Bottom line, your in Asia and its their rules not ours.

If you really need a hotel that is closer to a hotel your used to in western countries, you can stay at the Holiday Inn on the former Clark Air Force base.
It is not the best Holiday Inn , but I've stayed at much worse Holiday Inns in the USA.

Looks like I will just miss you, arriving AC for my virgin trip early AM on the 16th.
I plan to buy a GSM cell in Shanghai and then on my arrival in PI pick up a SIMS card to have a local PI number and service. I am told by my buddy and PI veteran that they are less than 8 USD for a number and some airtime. In PI, incoming calls and text are free.
My lady friend in Shaghai is cell phone savvy and has told me that cells are cheap and a SIMS and phone should be less than 50 USD.
Try not to wear out all the ladies before I arrive!

I bought a Motorola cell phone on ebay for my next trip. You have to get multi-band and one that will accept chips. I'm sure one of the techie guys can explain that better. I knew at the time I was shopping.
For a mobile phone, you want one that supports GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) in the 900/1800 bands. These are the bands that are used primarily in Asia, Europe, South America, and Africa. Every mobile phone maker makes them in all price ranges. If you're in North America, you want phones that support 800/1900 bands. There are a lot of triband phones that support 900/1800/1900 and the occasional phone that supports 800/1800/1900 (I think only Sony-Ericsson). There are also a few phones that support all 4 bands. A NEC model and a couple of the newer Motorolas are some that come to mind. The reason for the incompatibility has to do with the military. In North America, the 900 and 1800 bands are reserved for government use, the reverse in a lot of other areas. One thing, make sure you get a carrier UNLOCKED phone. If you buy a phone from a carrier, it might be carrier locked in which case you won't be able to use another service provider's SIM in it.

You can look for "unlocked" tri-band phones in E-bay for under $100. Any (almost) unlocked phone will accept a sim chip/card. Better yet, you can buy a used one when you arrive in the Philippines from the countless cellphone stores and stalls in the malls for under P5,000 and purchase a sim card, either Globe or Smart will do. When your ready to go back home, you could give it to one of your new girlfriends as a gift. Or save it for your next return trip.

I'm new to the Phillipines scene. Going to Korea for 1 month, and thought about visiting AC. I've read through this forum and have found many valuable info. But I have several question?
When you barfine the girls, the quote was 1200 peso, is that for full service, everything is included, or do you have to tip the girl separately? Because if I'm understanding it correctly, it's only U.S. $25 for long time full service? Sounds too good to be true. I'm use to Bangkok prices.
Next, since this is my first trip. Is AC a good place to start or can I find the same thing in Manilla?
Finally, been to Bangkok 6 times, loved it! I have 4 days where I can get away from Korea, would you recommend AC or just go to Bangkok?
Final thought, if AC is really $25 for long time with decent looking girls with good attitude, then I'm willing to try it out. Yes, budget is of concern. Would like to keep it under $600 including air from Seoul. Can this be done for a 3-4 day trip?

If you need a phone when travelling to Asia. Just get an unlocked tri-band phone. The most popular is brand of phone is Nokia and next is Sony Ericsson. When buying a tri-band phone, make sure that it uses a SIM.
Better yet, just buy a used cellphone in RP and SIM. Just make sure that you ask them if the phone is unlock. And you can always sell it afterwards.
If you have a T-Mobile or Cingular as your cellphone carrier, preferably a Nokia or Sony Ericsson. Just bring it to a cellphone shop and they will unlock it for you. It should not cost that much, you can also haggle with the price.

Update on the Bar Scene
AC has changed as with most cities in Asia with a couple of bars now closed down, a couple of new ones in their place. Robinsons has now opened a new Mall within walking distance of Fields Ave, but I had a look around and could not find any ATMs in there, but it does have a four screen movie theatre.
Kokomos does have an ATM machine in there now, maybe it was there in March but I didn’t notice it. However, with the exception of some of the price changes, I have found out that many bars still continue with the 1000 Peso bar fine, so it’s not correct to say all bars now have a 1,200 Pesos (U$21/£12/€17) bar fine; OK so now some bar fines are up 20% from 1,000 Pesos (U$18/£10/€14) in March to 1,200 Pesos (U$21/£12/€17) but being honest here the price changes are minimal nothing to cry home about. This time of year is very quiet depending on your point-of-view on what you want to do, you will still have a good time and meet some fine women – hoping that’s what you are looking for (if not you are in the wrong destination). I am not sure if it’s because it is generally quieter now but I found that all bars had some good looking women, although back in March these were few and far between.
Out: or closed down are Hollywood and Stinger and Wet Seal which has now moved from Field Ave to close to the back of the Orchid Inn hotel, and besides the church there, just down the way from the new Roy’s Pub which describes itself as a British-Aussie Pub.
In the Blue Nile in the upper part of the club you will find the Blue Nile Executive Club when you go through a separate doorway. What’s the difference here, first off, the prices it marginally more expensive here, whereas an orange juice or cola is 70 Pesos (U$1.24/£.70/€1) in the Blue Nile in the Executive club its 80 Pesos (U$1.42/£.79/€1.14), so no more than say a 10% increase (although some mathematician is going to say that its actually more than 10%, but this is just for generalization purposes only). The bar fines here in the Executive are 1250 Pesos (U$22/£12/€18) against the 1200 (U$21/£12/€17) in the normal club. OK it a bit more pricy but is it worth it, to be honest I liked it better up here as it had generally better looking girls, these girls tended to be the fairer and innocent looking types that the Japanese businessmen tend to prefer, more atmosphere and some floor shows as well as the occasional table dancers.
Another new club which has recently opened is Agasya, this is definitely Japanese owned located just in front of the Orchid Inn and it has the feel of one of these J Clubs in Japan, because when I went in they were playing typical Japanese pop songs and the waitresses uniforms are that of Navy style Japanese school girls. If that’s your thing then go down there I spent 30 minutes in there and the cliental were mostly Japanese and the girls again tended to be the fairer looking Filipinas but prices were definitely on par with what you would find in the areas, as I was half way expecting a massive bill when it arrived but drinks were from 70 Pesos and imported drinks 200 Pesos and bar fines at 1200 Pesos (U$18/£10/€14). I was expecting that at least double.
Cheetahs Lounge has greatly improved in terms of quality of girls to be found in here and the atmosphere is good, the best part is that they are still continuing with the 1,000 Peso (U$18/£10/€14) bar fine.
Other places I thought were good were still Blue Nile, Cambodia, Camelot
Bars which I thought were OK Angels, DMZ, La Bamba, Kitten Club (OK it had only two decent dancers on the night I visited)
Bar which I thought were, how can I say, lacking in atmosphere and decent dancers, D’Club, Insomnia, Private Dancer, Black Jacks, Jungle, Rhapsody, Flamingos, Bunny Ranch & Blueberry. Whilst Suckers (appropriately named in my opinion) had to have been the worst club of all, with the oldest & ugliest dancers of them all. I hope I went there on a bad night and not the best one?

Update on Blow Row of Santos Street:
The best place for me is still Black Pearl I like the fact that the girl, I usually choose, always brushes her teeth before and after the job in hand. I'm heading to the Phils for the first time on Friday and I have a couple of days to spare in Manila. I really would like to visit Angeles City, but am a bit unnerved about taking a bus or jeepney or the SEAIR plane there.
I was wondering if any of you have rented a car in Manila and driven it there yourselves? In your estimation, is this a smart thing to do? And is it safe to park a car anywhere near the clubs?
I've heard traffic can be a killer, and the road signs on Philippine roads are not all that numerous, so it's easy for a newbie to get lost. Any truth to this?

I drive when im in Phils but then ive been travelling there for twenty years. Its not difficult to find your way to AC if you you can find the road signs !! I would recommend negotiating with a taxi driver to take you as it wont cost that much. PM me if you do decide to hire a car and I will put you in touch with a reliable company who hire at about 2000 pesos per day for self drive. btw a taxi will take you to Ac for less than 2000.

KE Joe, If you dont know your way around the P.I. I would not recommend renting a car. What I have done many times and it works very well is when you get through customs at the Manila Airport, go to the AVIS Car counter. You can get a Aircon van or car with driver that will take you to AC for $40-50. Its safe and fast. They will also stop for beer, [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) stops at your request. The other way is to contact the major hotels ie. Orchid and they will meet you at the airport. I wouldnt just go out to any taxi in front of the terminal and try to make arrangements to get to AC-- either night or day. Good luck. semper fi devildog

I agree with devildog. But it's not just not knowing your way around (you'd be lucky to find your way out of Manila by the way) it's also a bad idea from the liability standpoint.
The rented car with a driver is a good choice. But it's also safe to get a cab from the counter inside the airport or a car arranged by your hotel should be OK as well.
As you are spending a couple days in Manila, it may be convenient for you to take the "Fly the Bus" shuttle from the Swagman in Ermita. They have 3 deparure times per day (8 AM, 11 AM and 3 PM, if memory serves).
If you were heading up straight from the airport, I'd go with devildogs recommendation of a prearranged van from Orchid, Margarita Station or others.

Do not even attempt to drive there if you don't have any experience driving in a poor country. There are traffic laws but no one really follows them, well California is almost the same but that's another story. Most people drive by senses and it's crazy, just take the bus or hire a cab to take you to AC.

Go with SEAir if you can, how can you beat the 30 minute ride, yeah it's on a crappy plane but for 30 minutes and 850p it's hard to beat. You get a free shuttle right to your hotel. Best money spent, if it fits your schedule go by air.

I had been still arranging to meet up with various girls whilst I was here, I had six to meet up with in total, although I have given up on the girl Ester and her friends, whilst the second girl I had met had now gone to Manila to see her family for a week, bad timing for me.

Yes there is the Pick Up Disco - actual name. But why would you look for a freelance when you can get a bar girl so cheaply? The bar does see to it that the girl doesn't rip you off to some extent. It's not always as easy to get a refund as they say but it is done.

You can meet regular girls up here if you invest the time and effort to do it, yes, as mentioned earlier there is the Pick Up disco, but many of the girls who frequent there are either high maintenance or hard core pros, I spent two hours up on one of the upper floors watching the pros below going up and down touting for business. After a week in Shanghai attending a business conference, my PAL flight actually lands early in Manila. That is the only nice thing I can say about the PAL flight, and it is my first and last time to fly with them. The rest of my flights from Seattle were on Northwest, but they wanted to go Shanghai-Tokyo-Manila, so I decided to take a chance with PAL direct. Immigration was a breeze, two minutes in line and 30 seconds to stamp my passport with not a word spoken, except for me to say thank you. About 15 minutes to get my checked bag, and another 30 seconds at customs and I am out the door. I had arranged for a driver from Central Park Hotel, and I stood at the pre-arranged spot for about 1 minute, and the driver holds up the sign with my name and we are off to AC.
A bit of a side note, before I start talking prices. I don't throw money away, but at the same time, the difference between 1500 and 2000 pesos is no big deal. I make a good living, and I don't sweat the small stuff.
I arranged for a van at 2000 pesos, thinking I could sleep on the way to AC. I did get a little sleep, but not much. When the driver stopped for gas, there was a Burger King next door so I ask to stop there and offered the driver something. I asked what he wanted and got my first of many, "up to you", the seemingly universal answer that Filipinos give over and over, lol.
I arrived at the hotel at about 220AM, the Central Park ladies were ready for me, and I was escorted to my $30 USD per night Premier room. I cannot say enough about the Central Park Hotel. The service is excellent, the room was clean and well furnished, and the ladies at the desk were sweet and friendly. When coming and going with ladies, just a smile. Even when I came and went with three ladies, not a reaction at all, maybe just a bigger smile, lol.
I jumped in the shower, dressed, locked my valuables in the safe, and was out the door by 250. I knew I was pressed for time with bars closing, so I choose Las Vegas for no other reason than it was close.

The only reason to go to AC is the prices. Yes, $25 is for the overnighters. No tip required, although they appreciate a token. The downside is you have a 50/50 chance of getting a runner. You get alot of excuses and games in AC. Manila is closer to BKK in prices. I would rate BBK girls 7's and 8's, Manila girls 6's and 7's and AC girls 4's and 5's with an occasional 6 and 7 sprinkled in. All 3 places have the occasional stunner, but in AC unless you are a player, you will probably get only games from them. I actually think your bang for the buck is better in BKK, since you almost always get what you expect. Be forewarned .. AC is a dump. You will not find the great eats that you do in BKK. Arrived to Angeles in the afternoon with the Fly-The-Bus from Manila. Manila was fun and interesting. There are so many things to see and so few tourists. Easy to spend afew days just wandering around town. Public transport is also good and cheap. There are 3 modern metro trainlines. Cost is about 1/3 of Bangkok's BTS.
There is a good map for 99 pesos in many bookshops. By the way, books in English language are a bargain and there lots of interesting titles.
The beggars can be infuriating (and so in Angeles too) but if totally ignored they may get the message. There are charity tins at every 7/11 shop and you are better off dropping money into those than being chased by a band of beggars down the street.

Encouraged by my new-found successes I decide that I will accomplish 3 short-times today. I wonder if I can do it or not. First I make a plan.

Living costs are also bearable in A/C if you look around and comparable to Pattaya. There are reasonable rooms for the equivalent of 600 baht and the local eateries charge 30-40 pesos for a plate of really tasty food (25-30 baht). You also always get a free smile too.
This was not the first visit to A/C. But I always seem to forget that there are different attitudes here. First of all, many of these Philippinas are genuinely looking for foreign husbands. It is just the way that they have to sell pussy for a while, for a month or two. A huge number of them actually marry from here. Especially the gorgeous ones are out quickly.
One of the girls I met had already 2 sisters married to foreigners. One to a German and another to a Jap. She had the latest cellphone, owned a moped, lived in a nice apartment in town and had more cash than me. However she was still dancing nightly in a bar. Why? Because that's how her sisters got married. She is a true beauty and I was just lucky enough to pop her before she meets the 'real' one. Of course I can't marry. That's boring.
Also, I noticed that there are now a lot more young guys in town. While it used to be nearly the exclusive playground of us oldies, now lots of men in their 20's and 30's come here. Thanks for all the geat information on this board. I'm looking forward to making my own contributions. In January, I will be spending up to a month in A.C. and after reading some of the stories on here, I'm really looking forward to it. Right now I am planning to stay at the Clarkton for most of my time, but am wondering what the pros and cons of staying so far away from Fields Ave. might be. It looks like a great hotel, but will the distance become a pain in the ass after a while?

Hm, it's funny that somebody finds reasonable meat here. In my personal opinion there are no women on this street.
It'only the waste and reject . Can someone reasonably imagine that meat that can be sold for 1000 pesos will be sold for 500? Or is that our 'something for nothing' wish again?
Quite simply the girls (if they can be called that!) on this street are
substandard. Too dirty, too ugly, too old, too sick or all of the
above. A.Santos is not even a street! It's unsealed, just a dirt-track
really.
In fact I had a pop there, long ago, once. But it was just bad. Downright bad. Not proud of that one at all. I was drunk. However it must be noted that what they lack in appearance they might compensate to some extent in
attitude. As ugly girls often do. Although there are also scams that they won't always deliver what they promise.
But still, they look so filthy and sickly that one doesn't even want to
touch them. Unless when drunk.
If they were any reasonable in quality they would be working in the
main street bars. To find even one 'gem'? I don't think so. Good
looking girls do not fit in with uglies. The others would hate them out
as they would take all the business. But here it's just uglies all the
way down.
I think the best way to go is too look for consistent quality. In all
details. The bar, the staff, even the customers. There is no quality of
any sort here. P500 a pop for one hour? Is it good value? The rooms are
crap, the girls too. You will be glad to get out ASAP and won't even
fill out your one hour.
On the other hand most quality bars will give you at least 2 hours even for ST, for 1000 pesos. Per minute it works out the same.

While in Pattaya they are just doing a job for money, in fact lot of
the girls here are after boyfriends/husband. One of the most frequent
question they ask is: 'Have you got a girlfriend yet?' They seem to
think it absurd that someone spends a week here and doesn't get a
girlfriend.
A number of guys come back with their families after marrying a Filipina. But they usually stay out of town like at Swagman.Their kids are cute enough. They seem to be quite happy too.
Apart of freedom from crazy motorcycle drivers (really, NO BIKES! joy!),
another welcome feature of Balibago town is the total absence of
'regular tourists'. In fact it feels so good that everyone is here for
only one and the same thing. I can't help but love it. No papas and
mamas with crying kids and suitcases. No moral dogmas or prejudice.
It is simply beautiful to be in sex-town. Basically any female you meet
could be your potential partner for the night. With a bit of work that
includes not only bargirls but waitresses, computer-lounge attendants,
anything. Many girls would come first just to look around, work in a
shop, supermarket, etc. and then go dancing in bars.
Also, I noticed that Filippinas seem to be always 'looking'. While a
Thai girl normally will avoid eyeing you if she has a man, Filippinas
seem to be in a constant state of attention and ever seek eyecontact
with every male, even if they are with another man. After all, tonight
may only be for cash but tomorrow could be the 'real-one'. It's funny.
Another difference is that the go-go bars here are a very tamed down
version of Thai bars. There is no nakedness, not even semi-nakedness
displayed here. All girls wear at least bikinis on stage, many even a
little skirt and vest over that or some night-gown type costume.
Also, there are no shows at at all. Not even sexy dance performances. I
wonder why. It can get quite boring to sit in there if you don't feel
like chatting. While in Bangkok the guys at Patpong will usher you
into their bars promising pussy-show, banana-show, ping-pong-show,
frog-show, fucking-show and delivering too, there is nothing like
that in Angeles.
Although pussy shows, ping-pong-shows, fucking shows can be fun at
times in Bangkok, maybe it's better that there isn't any here. Most of the girls are really lovely.
They are not great in sex-techniques just simply accomodating. Also, quite a
bit timid first. It takes some effort here even to lay a bargirl.
I always seem to forget that and have to fall back into the mood every
time I visit.
The best is to have a look at all the bars even if for one drink.
Things always change. My current review is the following:

Completely redone inside. Used to be pretty low class but now

Used to be best in town. Now lots of fatties and the occasional

also Champagne and La Bamba (but they have always been good)

Must Unfriendly bar: Welcome Inn (waste of time. Hardly anyone goes
there anyway.)
Coldest atmosphere: Insomnia (I never liked this one. Lots of blue
lights and it's freezing inside. So is the atmosphere.)
Total Freakshows: Confetty, Treasure Island, Cherry's bar, Edelweis,
Rhapsody. (They might have good hearts but these girls are just
substandard.) Only the cherry-girls look human.
Cheapest drinks: Stampede, Bananitas (yes, they dropped the price and
raised quality!)
Best overall for a good night: La Bamba (I think. Lots of warm red
lights, friendly staff and beautiful girls.)
In summary:
Beautiful girls, lukewarm sex, friendly people sums up Angeles. If you
have already spent months in Pattaya then it's a welcome diversion for
a week but wouldn't really warrant a trip otherwise. One very welcome
positive aspect is the nearly complete absence of rich, arrogant
western women. Saw only two of such animals in a week. Heard their loud
voices from a mile. All local Filipina women are friendly, respectful
and feminine. What a joy!
Balibago town itself is so quiet and relaxing at daytime. Nothing much to do, so even taking a walk down to Johnny's supermarket is an event. It's good to laze for a few days. Total relaxation.

The distance aspect of the clarkton isn't the problem with the hotel. It is fairly nice, but if you get a room facing the street (Perimeter Road, I think), it is ubearably loud. I stayed there for a few days in October and just had to endure. They claimed they had no other suites to switch me into. On the other hand, I hear that the rooms on the inside by the pool are great. It takes about 6-7 minutes to get to Fields Ave by trike from the Clarkton. If you want to get away from Fields for some peace and quiet, the Clarkton isn't the place.
BTW, on my next trip there, I need a hotel with jacuzzi, pool and in room internet connection. I stayed at the Blue Nile last time and it had the jacuzzi and pool, but no net in room. The Clarkton had the connection and pool, but no jacuzzi. I have looked and looked on the net but can't find a hotel with the right combination. Any tips, guys?

From Manila, I take the jeepney to Baclaran and walk 20-25 minutes to the Victory Liner Terminal on the north side of EDSA. I go to the window marked “Dagupan” and request a ticket to Dau / Mabalacat. The fare is 114P plus a 5P travel insurance , which (among other things) pays you 2000P in case you lose both the thumb and the index finger on either hand. Buses and jeepneys in Manila leave all the time, so there’s no need to be somewhere at a particular time.
It takes 2 hours to Dau, just north of Angeles. I check in at the Vistillana hotel, just each of MacArthur by Equitable PCI bank and Casino Filipino. The room rate is 450P with A/C and cable TV. The room is barely okay for the price. The Saver’s mall is located a quarter mile south from there, the Robinson’s mall is another quarter mile south, and yet another 1.5 miles further south is the NEPO mall. Fields Avenue is a quarter mile north. I missed it the first few times I walked by there.
The first bar I walk into was Jerry’s Cherry’s bar. It has an incredibly relaxed atmosphere, girls who like to dance, and no drink pressure. I chat with a fairly attractive waitress and then make eye contact with the best dancer and before long she comes over to me to chat. By the time I’ve been in the bar for two hours, the waitress suggests I barfine her. When I agree, she goes to the mamasan who recommends against it because she’s on menstruation. This is the best bar in terms of atmosphere that I would visit in Angeles. The only reason I never go back there is that I never run out of new bars to try.
Next, at Private Dancer, there is noticeably more drink pressure. Some girls are attractive as well as enthusiastic. One girl, the most lively one, shows interest in me. While not as beautiful as several of the others, the fact that she paid attention to me makes her the obvious pick. When I buy her a drink, she acts overjoyed, as if she has just won the gold medal. She is energetic and says “I love you. I love you. I’m in love with you” right from the start. A skinny girl, eight inches shorter than me, she picks me up by my legs and not only lifts me up, but rocks me up and down and carries me around the bar. I weigh 57kg clothed. This gets the attention of everyone in the bar.
The mamasan suggests I barfine her, but I warn the girl that I’m not staying in a nice place. She says it doesn’t matter to her and when she sees my room she says it’s fine. I the morning, I walk to the immigration office on 7th street. I should have entered 7th street from MacArthur, but instead I took a roundabout way through the residential neighborhood. The 21 to 59 day extension can be done for 1520P if you can wait for 2 weeks. I pay the 500P express fee, just to get this out of the way.
On previous days, I had already wasted considerable time trying to buy a cell phone in both Manila and Angeles, looking in all the wrong places. Most stores seem to sell only highly expensive phones, or they don’t want to sell me anything cheap. I bought mine near the NEPO mall, but if I had to do it again, I would buy it on the ground floor at the Metropolis mall in Alabang, where all the models and prices for new and used cell phones are clearly posted. From EDSA in Makati, take a 20 minute south-bound bus ride along the expressway for 18P to get there. There are countless places to buy cell phones, but I was unprepared. You have to know what model you’re looking for. I got a Nokia 3315, which sells for around 3000P new and 2400P used. Charger, manual, and SIM card should all be included.
I walk into the Dirty Duck at 5:30pm and it’s crowded with customers with average looking girls on stage, so I walk back out and step into Welcome Inn staight across, which is the same in all respects, except there are only two customers. One of the waitresses is the most attractive woman I would see in Angeles bars. Judging Angeles bars as a whole, the vast majority of girls are quite ugly, significantly uglier than what I saw at LA cafe a few days before. This waitress is 39 and has 5 children, but many 27 year olds have aged more than she. She is the only woman I talked to with whom I am the one leading the conversation. I don’t get anywhere with her, so I leave and step into Owl’s Nest. There I decide to buy a drink for a girl who seems a bit more shy, for comparison’s sake. She looks away and ignores me while having her drink. I have misjudged her.
Last bar I try is The Other Bar, a perimeter bar. There are maybe four girls and two customers who have the attention of the attractive girls, so I decide not to stay.
For dinner, I go to Chic ‘N Rib next to Blue Nile. The large Pancit Canton turns out to be the best meal I would have in Angeles, several kinds of vegetables, some shrimp, some meat, some small eggs. But don’t get the mixed vegetables for 30P,which is just a tiny serving of cooked frozen vegetables.

I change my room to the America hotel, learn how to use my cell phone, and set up a date for Friday in Makati with a girl I met online. I should have hit the bars at 5pm sharp because by 6:30pm, all the cute girls are taken. There are at least 10 girls I see during the course of the night that are okay in terms of looks, but their attitude / personality wasn’t right. Stampede and Camelot both serve artificial fruit juices. Better to order beer there. I also go to Rhapsody, Nero’s Forum, Edelweiss, Blue Nile Executive, Emotions, and a few others I forgot. All bars have too many customers competing for too few attractive girls.
The exception is Blue Nile Executive. I arrive there at 7:50pm, not realizing that the bars opens at 8pm. I am the only customer there for the first 20 minutes. Until 8pm, there is some kind of dance rehearsal. Then at 8pm, the bikini-clad dancers enter the stage. There are over 50 dancers crowded on the stage, all of them ugly. With the next group of dancers, quality doesn’t improve. That night, I see plenty of men walking out of bars with cuties; you just have to be at the right place at the right time.
I call it quits at 10:30pm and go to sleep.

You're right about the Clarkton noise. The side street rooms by the pool are much better but there can also be airplane noise. PAL using the airstrip there for training.
Clarkton is on Don Juico Ae.
The Oasis Hotel is pretty good for peace and quiet.

In my search mentioned previously for a hotel with jacuzzi, internet in room and pool, I have come up short. The nearest looks to be the Hotel Royal Amsterdam. It has jacuzzi rooms with internet, but no pool. Has anyone stayed there recently (doesn't have to be the jacuzzi room) that could give any feedback?

Had made a reservation at the America Hotel, and arrived on a Friday night. They gave me what they called the Presidential Suite. My God what a dump !!! Furniture smelled an awful musty flavour, bathroom had hardly any lighting to allow for a safe shave ' no glasses to drink out of, and had to be ordered separately. All in all one of the worst hotel rooms I have stayed anyweher in thw world.. and expensive at half the price of 2200 P !! Had been promised that they have wireless internet available in rooms, but nothing working on arrival. Moved out next day to the newest hotel in AC The Royal Amsterdam. Excellent rooms, great staff, restaurant. Everything works including broadband internet in each room and IDD phones ! Newest model of TVs etc. Very very satisfied. And the location ? On Fields Ave. and 30 seconds walk from all the action ! Wow what a find. And for those of you wanting jacuzzi in the room-- they also have those rooms.
Had previously stayed in the Jasmine Wing of Orchid Inn, but the Royal Amsterdam beats it hands down.
How true it is some times, Purelogic and Alexander seems to have EXACTLY the opposite views on Angeles City.
I think a new comer to this forum will be confused as hell, both described the place as much they can, and they are true in there respect, but i feel, the only way to judge is to go and look for yourself attitude. Its the same story in every forum.
The best way is to take only 50 percent from this site and do the rest on your own, and contribute the other 50 percent back. I have being bogged down many times by reading and getting a prejudiced view on every travel, when indeed if you go out there, its totally a different atmosphere.

I believe that one can take at least 90% of the material and statements posted on this board as reliable. The 10% that is not exactly true is based on individuals likes/dislikes of what AC really is. There are many visitors to AC that hope or try to make AC more than what it is or in fact will ever be. As stated in previous posts, I have been traveling to the PI almost every year since 68 and in fact was stationed at San Miguel in the Corps for two years. There really hasnt been much of a change in the way the bars function, way the girls act etc. Same lies as before but then the lies are on both sides, the girls and us mongers!! The girls are trying to make a better living than in the province and ultimately get back to the big PX in the sky. Cost are pretty much the same, in 68 an overnight was 15-20 Peso but then the peso was 4 to 1. The PI Govt is still just as corrupt and little of the funding that comes into Manila every gets out to the people that need it. They are still working on the same sections of the roads into/out of Manila that they have way back then. So with all said, its still the same game, PI will always be the PI, and how visitors look at it depends on their expectations prior to visiting and experiences in other Asian countries. I have traveled them all and honestly I feel the PI is still the best. Gentlemen I have tracked the prices that people claimed to pay in the LA Cafe and I averaged it to be 2,000 Pesos – in fact looking at the prices over the last three years in the Philippines due to inflation, in real terms the prices have been actually going down, with the exception of Cebu where prices have increased and still remain positive.
Mikster, who after only one visit to the Philippines considered himself some expert even though he was here for what, ten days and was offering a world of advice to newbies. This is the same guy who claimed to be coming back here in August to fuck this girl and that girl and had already brought the ticket but then “claimed” his papi had just passed away and he couldn’t let down his family so cancelled. But I see he has just been to Peru, this guy lives in a fantasy world and is a joker. I've always found dragon slayer and his group to be more about ego boosting than about real facts. In my opinion MOST but not all of the girls living in the big city, over there are not as down to earth as in other asian countries. I'm not sure this is the right thread to post this info but I would like to follow up on the fairly emotional post by Juniour. I do not claim to be an expert on LA Cafe but I've been there several times. I do agree that a lot of posts in the forum make LA Cafe look much better than it actually is.
To me it is just a bar where you can definitely (any time of the day) get some pussy. Do not expect too much about quality of ladies. While I have seen many an exaggeration on this and other portions of the forum, I would disagree with the premise that most of what DS and company have posted is bogus. Having lived in Manila for the past 5 years I can attest that I have found on occassion a P500 beauty for the night in the LA Cafe (last time for that price was last March). Today it is still fairly easy to find one for between P1000-P2000. I am always amazed that most visitors gravitate to the LA Cafe or Burgos street in Makati. These places exist primarily to rip off the Western and Japanese sex tourists and so their prices are set accordingly.
If you want to find beautiful young women at discount prices, try learning a little Tagalog and stop behaving like a tourist who is just blowing into town for a quicky then moving on. Try visiting the student hangout bars along Adriatico Street. Also, if the girl perceives a chance that a bigger pay-off may be in store, the rates go down considerably. I make no delusions that to most of these girls I appear to be a combination walking ATM machine and a potential green card, but what the heck, I would have to be Bill Gates to get the same quality of women to go home with me in the States.

It is common knowledge that many of the bars change over the course of a few months.
