Your expectation for THB200/day after paying your room cost is too high. But it may be enough to eat small portions from a vendor and take in the sunset each day. Based on your past experience, you should be able to easily develop a budget. For me, I do spend much more than THB5, 000 per day but less than 20 per cent of that on entertainment.I am talking about spending 1000thb/day on the room only not for the whole day and fun. I would be willing to spend almost 3000-5000 on me per day other than the room. When i was refering to 1000thb/day that mean about only room rent my friend. Not the food, drinks, fun and bar scene. Well i just found another new hotel other than RGI as its far(though cheap) but this one i found is Charging 1200 Bath for a superior room in SIO 13 named something like Inn House. What are your comments regarding that?

I dropped in to Sandy Spring a few days ago to check out the rooms. Great location but to me they were a bit tired for the price. Plenty of new places opening up with specials.

They are offering free wireless though for the next few months which makes it more attractive.

I had so MUCH FUN, last New Years Eve, I have decided to return to the scene of the crime........LOL

Last year, I stayed at Nirvana Place, in South Pattaya, near Pattaya Hill. While it was a wonderful and quiet hotel, it was a bit too far from the action. I don't mind a short bhat bus ride, but this was often a painful trip into town due to traffic.

So this trip, I am considering three different hotels, of a similar quality (3-4 stars) which seem to be located in quieter areas. Mostly, because they have generous cancellation policies (same day to 1 week), but also convenient internet reservation systems. I do not mind a short walk or bhat bus ride, but I am not interested in somewhere that is more than 5-10 minutes from the beach-end of Walking Street.

I am interested to know if they have room safes big enough to store a laptop, and if they are guest friendly without a joiner fee. I have researched this forum, but have yielded minimal information. I plan to email each one of them to ask those specific questions, but thought I would ask those of you who have direct knowledge.

The Hotels I am considering are:

1. Nova Platinum Hotel (This hotel seems to be an ideal location)
2. Mercure Central
3. Best Western Pattaya

Nova Platinum is GF and does not charge joiner fees. It is one of the many new Hotels popping up in Pattaya these days. They do not have in room safe large enough to accommodate laptops. I left my laptop out in the room every day I stayed there. If you book from their web site you will get the best rate ($47.00usd), they are running a promo now where they will upgrade your regular room to deluxe room. Nice Hotel except for the large number of inebriated adipose boors frequently wallowing in the pool (located near the front entrance of the hotel) all day oblivious to the fact that no one wants to view their unsightly bodies they seem so ready to expose.

Going to Pattaya in Nov. for 3 weeks. Could someone recommend a hotel with the following requirements: Not to exceed $80 per nite including taxes, in an area very convenient to walking to the fun places, must have safe in room, a nice pool area, great air conditioning and joiner friendly without additional fees, also what are the tax percentages added to rooms?

Thanks

Hi guys.

I'll be heading to Pattay for the first time this coming Oct. I have a friend that has gone several times years ago. He told me of a cheap hotel that has private "bungalow" style rooms. He says you can literally ride your motorcycle up to your door. He says it's very convinient for bringing girls back.

Have any of you ever heard of such a place? I've searched and found a couple that offer rooms like that, but they are hardly cheap.

I was hoping to find a nice girl friendly hotel, that has a good bar, good food, clean, comfortable and wifi would be a plus. Any suggestions?

Also looking to spend a day or two at an upscale resort with private beach. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Guys/Expats. Need a suggestion on a hotel which doesnt charge any joiner fee for 2 gals. Not one. Alot of hotels are guest friendly in central pattaya and sio 8 and 13. But all have a limitation of 1st guest to be free not the second. Any list of hotels not charging for the second guest as well?

Is it really low season in Pattaya? I tried to reserve a hotel room for couple of weeks three weeks from now in Pattaya Bay Resort. They replied it is fully booked that time :( I have been there before and did not have anything to complain about.

Will in be in Pattaya in Sept with three buddies looking for a GF friendly hotel. Can't decide between these hotels any advice would be great. Wondering about their location, GF friendly (Joiner fees are OK but don't want any problems about bringing guest) and overall condition of hotel

Marriott, it seem pricy but it seem so many recommend it because of its location and condition. Is it that much better then the rest.

Royal Orchid Resort, haven't seen anything written about this place, is it girl friendly. Its advertised as a family friendly

Amari Orchid Resort or the Amari Nova Suites, both seem nice is one better then the other

Yes it is but if a hotel is good but small then they will always be busy. You could try asking them what dates of your stay they have free.

This one or Flipper Lodge?

Or anything else within range of the action and cost.

Assuming you understand that Buakhao is a ways from the beach and the place measures up to your expectations, then sunshine is OK, Flipper can be a bit noisy being right on soi 8 so that might be a consideration, too.

I've stayed on Buakhao (not there, though) and Eastiney (in the soi 7/8 noise complex). I guess it depends on whether you want easy access or sleep. Remember, the bhat buses run along Buakhao but not nearly as frequently as 2nd road. From Flipper you can go "up" to 2nd road if you want to go north or "down" to beach if you want to go "south" (Walking Street) Your choice.

Have to study the map again. It doesnt seem that far away. Went to P long time ago (15y) and then stayed at Lek hotel, I remember It as a clean and nice hotel with a pool.

But don't remember how far to some of the action. Do you think its still noise in the higher levels in Flipper? Maybe I want to get some sleep anyway.

I've never stayed at Flipper Lodge but at Flipper House a couple of times and I never had a problem with noise inside the hotel.
I think it's a decent hotel for the price, the only thing I'd like to see them add is in-room safes.

Gentlemen. I stayed in one of the deluxe rooms at 800 bhat a night, and found it well worth the money. Rooms start there at 500, but check the website and see.
My room was pretty big, nice ensuite, room safe, huge bed, and cold air-con. I spent a fair bit of time there with an angel I found on my first day, and to be frank, one could not want more from a room than a comfortable place to shag, and a decent place to get washed before and afterwards, and of course somewhere to enjoy a decent meal and drink up until midnight?
The housekeeping service was excellent, and she didn't care what time you emerged, usually after 3pm.
Early on, a caster broke off my stool, I told the owner, and it was replaced before I could even get upstairs. Another time the water pressure had gone really low in the taps, I told the cleaner, and by the time I had come back it was sorted.
The staff downstairs all speak excellent English, and they have no problem with your tilak/overnight rental.
After midnight, entry is via the back (don't we all love that!) and the security guys are pretty insistent on taking the girl's ID card, which is good security.

The one problem with the place is that it is on Soi 6. Problem you may say, yes! The few times I ventured out without my Tilac I was like a little boy in a sweetie shop, but luckily tilak told me she would kill me if I strayed away. Soi 6 can be an intimidating place!

Right out the back door is a pharmacy, there's a cheap launderette about 34 hansum man calls away ( 100 metres), and a 7/11 at the top of the street.

Guys, really, for 800 bhat a night it is a bargain. If you want to spend more money on girls and drinks without compromising on decent accommodation, try the Queen Vic.

Nice report, but what about noise ?

Can you sleep in the morning, or after 2-3 am ?

In Pattaya its always the same issue .My room was at the back, on soi 6/1. All the rooms appear to be UPVC double glazed, which really cuts down noise, and the aircon helps drown sounds as well. Personally, after midnight, the Soi seemed to be pretty quiet, but hey, if you go back to your room, girless, and sober, then you may have sleeping problems anyway. pissed and with a LBFM hanging off your arm, the last thing you care about is noise!

PWell thnx for the report you are lucky that things went well with you in queen vic. Last time I was there I had the bathroom leaking, smelly bathroom and bar girl shouting if you are alone (though I love girls showing attention but not I m in a bad mood). Somewhere it wasn't bad as the money you pay is 25$ and I think its ok. You are right if you are interested in saving and compromising on accomodation its ok but for people like me who need a peace of mind and things in order it might be below the standard. I ll be ready to pay some more money for some extra services.

Is it really low season in Pattaya? I tried to reserve a hotel room for couple of weeks three weeks from now in Pattaya Bay Resort. They replied it is fully booked that time :( I have been there before and did not have anything to complain about. Now while here... Partly room shortage might be explained with Pattaya Marathon 20th of July. My reservation request overlapped with that. I have been always near Walking street and I think I have seen it. Any fresh ideas for accommodation nearby Soi 6?

BTW I am staying in Secrets hotel. I do confirm earlier reports for noisy echoing hallway combined with paper thin doors, smallish rooms and lack of elevator. It is low season so street noise or other customers have not bothered too much. I have been able to sleep at nights; After satisfying the lady of the evening of course ;) Staff is not that friendly either. GF though; first hotel I have been where mini bar includes condoms.

I stayed in one of the cheaper internal rooms - so there was no noise issue there for me - but I don't think that Soi 6 is that noisy at night when you compare it to Soi 7,8 etc.

A couple of other things that I liked was that they also had free wi-fi in the rooms and it has small forum about the other Soi 6 bars. To top it off they sell the best beer in Asia - Beer Laos!

A couple of negative things though - as you say that after the pub closes, the entrance is around the back on Soi 6/1 - which is a LB freelancer area, so if you do go back after your nights activities ladyless the LB's assume that is what you are after and gave me a bit of hassle on a couple of occasions.

I would also say that the rooms have a 'pub feel' to them rather than a feel of a hotel, which might not be to everyones taste.

It is on 2nd Rd and South of Pattaya Thai (South Rd), right next to the Siam Bayshore Hotel, and I believe it might also front on Walking Street as well. Looks like a nice hotel. Boys Town is North of Pattaya Thai on Soi Pattayaland.

Can anyone help in accomodation in this place? I have 2weeks in Pattaya and I would like to stay at least for a night in this city. However all Chonburi listings are actually Naklua-Pattaya-Jomtien hotels.Or at best the hotel in Sriracha
Dont they have reasonable hotels within walking distance from the main road
from Bangkok to Pattaya if I come by bus? It looked like a big city from the bus the last year I came to Pattaya.I am told its the provincial capital.

I spent a month in Chonburi once. I was working there, so I had no choice. I discovered that in the middle of the city, there is very little to do except watch CNN in your room. I would avoid it at all costs.

and it's an HOUR away from Pattaya by SLOW BUS, TOO

(Suk is where you get the bus... to Sriracha... to Banglaemung... to Pattaya (still on Suk -- they don't go to the bus station, so you have to cross SUK) which due to the traffic SUCKS when dragging a BAG) stay out from in front of MERCEDES - they have their own gunsight hood ornaments :)

Going to Chonburi ... ROFLMAO - nothing interesting unless you have connections there ) even Trat is more interesting from an "entertainment" perspective if you can speak Thai

Will be going to Pattaya for work in Oct.

Since the company is paying I would like to stay at a 4 or 5 star resort style hotel with good access to nightlife (but also quiet). Couple of questions:

1) Any recommendations on guest fee free accommodation's in this category? 2) If hotel does have a guest fee - how does it show up on your bill? As you can imagine, I would prefer to avoid convoluted expense account explanations!

Other good hotels with no cf:

Tim Boutique
Mercure

All the 3 hotels are in the center - 3-5 minutes to walking street if you walk and 2 - 3 minutes to SOI 6/7/8, Big C with the Bath.

Hope your company is also going to pay you the ladies.

Please post your impression after your stay (price/quality/girl friendliness/etc.). I have a reservation there for NYE and am looking for some feedback. It seems like a newer hotel and think I have only seen one post with direct experience. When is your visit so I can monitor this thread?Have send an EMail to NovaP if they are girl friendly - i´m still waiting for an anwer since one week; have booked tim boutique for 4 days and will take a closer look when i arrive in Patty on the 19.8 if it´s worth for a stay.

I have been the last 2 years (6 times) alway Mercure. Quite Hotel, good price, and you have just 3 walking minutes to WS and 2-3 min. with bath taxi to Soi 6,7,8 and BIG C.

I have RTFF, but there are conflicting reports about this property.

Any definite answer whether the Mercure Pattaya is girl friendly when booking a double room? Some say yes, some seem to have been hit with a THB 500 fee.

Was also looking at the All Seasons - seems to have a joiner fee...

Gents,

I was trying to make a hotel reservation through hotelthailand.com and they asked to email them a copy of my credit card.

Since I know there is lots of scams in asia in credit cards, I dont think that would be a good idea.

Does any has been in the same situation before?

I just finished using them 2 weeks ago myself when it came 2 booking 2 nights in hua hin when I arrive in Thailand in 2 weeks

I don't have any concerns, but anything is possible in life

I tried wired destinations 1st but it kept coming back some syntax error message when I tried 2 book with them so I used hotelthailand

There are so many procedures & 4 different confirmation numbers while booking that I have 98% confidence everything will be just fine

This is 2008 & not 1996 when using credit card online was a scary thought.

NEVER email your credit card information. Email is an unsecure form of transmission. Very weird that anyone would ask that. You're better off calling them.

Jesus Evil, you DA MAN! 5 girls in your room?

Real reason for this post was that I'm staying in the PBR's Presidential Suite for a couple of weeks in February. Is it worth the extra dough? What was your experience like?

And whilst on the subject, where did you get your five friends and what was the charge?

I've considered a twosome but never a fivesome. Is that even a word?

I stayed at the Pattaya Bay Resort for six nights at the end of November 2007. I arrived with five ladies in tow, only one of which registered with me. I was worried about the extra "joiners' fees," but the hotel staff didn't bat an eye. I've attached a picture of the five ladies watching the TV in my room at the PBR. Every night I had at least two ladies spending the night and was never asked for a joiner fee. This may be in part because I had a suite and not a standard or deluxe room, but I believe the "joiner fee" clause is a protective one to guard against the guests who pack four or five people into a standard room for the whole stay.

You might want to check out the newly opened Pattaya Beer Garden, which is trying to become the local equivalent of the Beer Garden on Soi 7 in Bangkok. You can read about it here: Pattaya Beer Garden (http://www.pattayabeergarden.com/)

Bkktg,

I have stayed here 4 times, the last of which was in April/May this year and it is definitely GF. No joiner fee ever but then I always book a double (same price). They do always make the girl give her ID over to reception though.

To be honest, I liked it first time but after staying in a couple of other hotels I dont really think it's very good value for what the room is. Just an opinion. It's nice enough though.

Deep Throat,

stayed here a couple of months ago, Deluxe room was excellent. Massive for the money. Had to change for last 2 night to 1 bedroom suite. Loved it. Tried to book suite again for October but all gone. I can only get a deluxe for 10 days then the Presidential suite for 2 nights so I'll post a review for you when I see it.

Had 2 girls several times and reception never batted an eye or asked for joiner fee. In fact they always joked and pointed at me and mimed a butterfly behind my new best friend's back :-)

Great hotel btw. Better than Mercure IMO which is right next door and only a hundred metres to the mall complex with cinema, bowling alley, restaurants and pubs etc. Only 5 minutes to Soi Buakhao/Soi Metro area. They run a free tuk tuk to there or 2nd Road but unlike Mercure they dont hang around to bring people back.

Pics on their website are spot on.

Cheers

The only difference I could see between the Presidential Suite and the category of suites one notch under (forget the name) is that the Presidential Suite included a desktop computer and fax machine. Otherwise, the suites were identical in size, furnishing, etc. The Presidential cost 500 baht more per day than the other suite when I stayed there, so it wouldn't be worth it unless you need a computer and fax.

They were all from the FLB Bar on Walking Street. The barfine is 400 baht and the ladies will want 1,000 to 1,500 baht for services, depending on what they do and how many days they stay with you.

My first night was 14Th Aug in Pattaya. I was staying at the;

Anna Jet Guest house Would I return NO!

Location. Soi7. 30yds down from Second Road on left hand side opposite Go Go bar. As I like to stay on Soi 7 or 8. This is a very basic Guest House, and does not look appealing. My instinct was to get the hell out of there, the curtains needed washing and the walls were due for a repaint several yrs back! The air con unit was noisy and the bathroom, I would describe as tatty at best! Only good points were location, GF, Wi-Fi & safe in all rooms! (Price was 450 thb per night) I always planed on moving out, but I could never get out of bed before check out time!

Anna Jets Bar is well Stocked with ladies, When I was checking in I saw several ladies that went on my "to do list. " In the past I have had several problems with bar fining different girls from the same bar, even some five days later. So this time I had a cunning plan!

I called over two girls that I liked, and told them that I want to bar fine them both, one today and one tomorrow, and let them decide. It worked a treat, so well in-fact, that I also BF another 3 girls during my time in Pattaya. Although I had 5 girls in total at Anna Jets, I never drank there, it was always very hot in there and they never (soap box out) enforced the smoking ban. I had a strict policy of only giving my business to non-smoking establishments. BF excluded (soap box away).

When I did eventually move out of Anna Jets I went to;

Dynasty Hotel 4 star Would I return NO!

Location. 100yds down Soi 13 from Second Rd on left hand side. This is a lot nicer hotel with safe, AC, GF & wi-fi of course. Special Offer 1000 per night min stay 3 nights. Only problem with this hotel is Location. It’s quite a hike to walking street but if you catch a Bart bus you sit in traffic all the time. Plus I don’t really like the numbers hotel. Where the guest, is just another number! I much prefer the family run hotel feel, like the Pig & Whistle. So After 3 night in Dynasty Hotel I moved to;

"Bella Vista Hotel" Would I return NO!

Location Next to Pig & Whistle on the horizontal road between soi7 & 8. When I looked at Room I found a Wi-Fi signal that was unlocked, so I thought I would try it for one night (750thb incl breakfast) could not get connected up so moved out next day to; (AC, GF, No safe, No Wi-Fi, good location)

Bar Drie Angel Would I return YES!

This is the family run type guest house, or in this case single Dutch guy run Guest house.

Rooms are large with your own private little lounge. Wi-fi, safe, AC, good location & GF.

650thb per night. I stayed here for two days, It would have been longer but his wi-fi was playing up, so out of shear fustratiuon I went to;

Pig & Whistle Would I return YES!

I finally managed to connect up to there Wi-fi. I had to change some setting and it went straight in. Room 7 was empty and that room was directly above the router so I checked it out and moved in. Wi-fi, Safe, AC, good location, GF, Good Restaurant, lift & a clean & tidy, well run hotel. 750thb per night.

Indeed it doesn't look like much of a deal anymore at THB 2500. But quality, friendly hotels are rather rare in Pattaya it seems.

However, for this trip I got a great rate at the Marriott so I'll stay there. Their standard rates are really getting out of hand also...

Just arrived back in the USA after 15 days at the Nova Platinum. I decided on this hotel after a lot of research, and after spending 2 weeks at the Siam Bayview on my last trip. What a GREAT little hotel. The whole hotel is ultra modern, and the rooms are just super bright and clean. I loved the location because it was just an enjoyable 10 minute walk from Walking Street, yet I could actually sleep at night because it was just far enough away from the super loud bands that play all night. The hotel is guest friendly, and the staff seemed genuinely interested in making certain that my stay was perfect. They even have a tour desk and currency exchange on site. Did I mention that each room has a new Samsung 32" flatscreen and DVD player?

The hotel has one of the nicest pool areas that I've ever seen. It includes a sand beach, a water slide and jacuzzi, and a bar and restaurant built into the middle of the pool. You can sit on the underwater stools to stay cool and have a refreshing cocktail at the same time.

Each room has a safe big enough for a laptop and the whole hotel offers free wifi. The baht buses stop right in front, so anyplace in Pattaya is a quick 10 baht (30 cents) ride away.

They have two different pricing plans. Although the rooms are exactly the same; if you go for the deluxe room it includes their breakfast buffet, but I opted for the superior room because the breakfast buffet closes down at 10: 30 AM, and whay pay for a breakfast that I'd usually sleep through? Much better option is to order room service or walk over to Baywatch restaurant on the beach and watch all of the action.

In short, a great little adult 4 star hotel with very reasonable pricing.

Secrets Hotel

Galaxy Suites Pattaya

Could not recommend this "hotel" to anybody.
I might be picky but:
1. They do not take credit cards (not mentioned on the website), room has to be paid in cash
2. They demand a 500B deposit on check-in (not mentioned on the website) - they brand it as a boutique hotel but acts like a back packers hostel.
3. You pay upfront when you check in and this is non-refundable so if you decide to leave early, as I did, you forfeit what you have paid.
4. The rooms are small in my opinion - some clever photography used in the website photos. The bathroom in my room was a very small wet room. There was very little room to take a shower without standing with legs astride the toilet.
5. It is noisy both from inside the hotel and outside. Outside noise is expected and accepted due to its location but the noise inside from other rooms was not - other guests voices, TVs, girls from Heavens Above in the corridor. Very low internal sound insulation.

Apart from the above, the room was clean and if you really do want to be at the centre of the night life then the location could not be better.

JohntheScotI stayed there 2 years ago, might be old info. There IS a joiner fee (600 I think, but don't quote me on that) and its right on a sign in the room. It's more of a family type of place. I wouldn't recommend it, its quite far from walking street. It's in a hilly/resort area were theres kinda only one way out. The baht buses out there have a monopoly, they will refuse to take you out of the hotel area for less than 100baht, they will ask for 150baht. Far cry from baht bus fares.

For what you want, I would pass. I was with a s/o so it was fine for me. Pool, Beach, etc.

fewer arrivals this year because of the global financial crisis. So room rates may not go up say 50% this time and more rooms are available. Is it true?

You can check various hotel rates on several websites and the high season periods should be clearly indicated in most cases.

18 sqm room with TV, aircon, fridge, bath/shower, toilet, Wifi (he doesn't mention it on his website) from 390 Baht, girl friendly.
400m from Carrefour (between 3 third road and Sukhumvit).

Unfortunately his website is all in German. http://www.radi-mansion.com
He has about 150 rooms all between 18 and 70 sqm (between 390 and 900 Baht).

To me the major (and only) setback on the first view is that one needs a motorbike (Which is to be had for 150 Baht per day) or a taxi for getting back. (Walking from Beach Road would be around 20 minues I guess).

While I'm in Pattaya, I usually stay at the Welcome Plaza Hotel.

http://www.welcome.co.th/wplaza.htm

Great location (very near the Royal Garden and a few minutes walk from Beach Road, Walking Street, etc.), nice swimming pool, excellent value for the money. The rooms are large and bright. The bathrooms are not too great, but correct. I don't like their breakfast buffet and I notify that I won't take the breakfast at this hotel when I make my reservations with them (they will apply a 50 baht discount on their room rates then if I am not mistaken).

IMPORTANT: Book your room with them (use the e-mail address mentioned on their website) or they may try to charge you a joiner fee when you come back with a guest at this hotel after the night has fallen (they don't check during the daytime).

It might be a 30 minute walk from NP to Soi 6. The location is not so good since NP is on the southern end of the long Pattaya line starting from Soi Naklua in the North to Pattaya hills in the south.
There are enough Bhat Busses, but it can need some time since there are several traffic lights (corner south Pattaya Road and Central Pattaya Road) also there is a big construction site (New Shopping Mall) neer Soi 9 which might cause delay.
Best rates you get on the amari website. I got it for 1900 Bhat per day average. During the week it's lower than at the Weekends. No, Breakfast included. If you want breakfast than it will be more expensive of course. Not worth the extra money, at least for me, since I like to have a late breakfast. I also, didn't manage to use the nice pool, since during daytime the weather wasn't good, alot of rain and I slept always long.

I am going to be in Pattaya in mid Dec on my third trip, and was wondering if ant members can help me with choosing an alternative hotel to the one I have stayed in before

On my first trip, I stayed at Tims Boutique Hotel on Soi 12 for 14 nights and on my second trip I stayed at the Whitehouse on Soi 13. I found that Tims Boutique was quite an expensive place to stay compared to The White House (almost 50%!). Whilst at the White House, I noticed Dynasty Grande next door which also looked good, but I have no idea if it is a better quality hotel compared to The White House.

I have also heard that Sabia Lodge / Resort is also a good place to stay, but once again compared to the above hotels I have no idea what to expect.

Any help in deciding will be truly appreciated

Sabai Lodge is a nice hotel on Soi 2. Nice pools for the afternoon. Girl friendly, balcany, good average room. The only problem is a little far from Walking Street.

Does anyone know about this hotel, its looks really nice, very close to walking street (is it on it?). Are the Guest Friendly?

Thanks in advance guys

AndyI stayed there last month, and it's really a posh hotel. It's at the quiet end of walking street, and it seems to be a bit out of place so close to all of the craziness. But it's like an oasis. Quiet, peaceful, and tranquil. The only drawbacks are that it's really a family friendly hotel with lots of kids running around (at least there were when I was there), they definitely charge a large joiner fee (I think it was 1000 baht or US $30), and the pool is actually across the street on the beach side of the street (which means that there is absolutely no privacy beccause you have to cross walking street in your bathing suit, and everyone walking up and down the street can see right into the pool area.

This hotel actually features a large conference center and caters to the corporate crowd. I really felt a little out of place there. Didn't see anyone else who appeared to be a monger.

In summary. I think it's a great hotel for someone who will confine their activities to massage parlors or soapies or short term rentals. Not the greatest place to bring a guest.

Can you take a short cut to Second street by walking through the mall?

MaxHi MadMax1,

I know you were asking for advice for other hotels - but can you advise me about the Whitehouse. How was it?

Thanks in advance.

I usually stayed at the LK Renaissance and can recommend it.

I checked the first days when I were this time in Pattaya some of the hotels you mentioned. White House is not better than Dynasty Inn (not Grande). Only drawback in boths no wireless lan. Well, in Dynasty Inn second floor you can have it. Dynasty made a better impression on my than Whitehouse and LK Hotel. Tims Boutique Hotel is expensive and they charge 350 Baht per day for W-Lan, extra.
Sabai Lodge, is different than the Hotels above. Sabai has bungaloos around pools and is a resort. Nice to spend some time with long term gf. If you like nice pools and hang around with your girl also on daytime than Sabai Lodge is right. It's not far to the action in Soi 6, Soi 3 and Soi 2. Also, just beside Big C and the massage parlours. For guys who are more interested in Short times, Dynasty Inn, LG or White House is Ok. Also, those Eastany Hotels in Soi 7 and 8 are great. I would say even better than Dynasty.
Prices for Dynasty is about 1400 Baht and Eastany same range. Sabai depend on season, but expect 1500 - 2200 Baht, depend what kind of bungaloo you take.

I usually stayed at the LK Renaissance and can recommend it.I stayed there for 5 nights in July'08.

The rooms were very spacious but basic. I had a room overlooking the car park next door

The rooms are air conditioned, the bathrooms are good and the rooms had a safe to keep your belongings.

The restaurant was adequate, and the staff were great. Also very guest friendly with no joiner fees, unless you have more than one guest at a time: P

The only thing that put me off from this place was that its not a lively place (but then maybe I was there in the low season). But overall a great hotel

Would I recommend the place. YES!

Just not sure if I would return

They are girl friendly, about noise I can't say. I haven't slept there, just inspected the rooms and ask the bell boy if girls are a problem. It's a typical monger Hotel so no problem in that regard.

If you stay in a higher floor than noise will not more a problem.

The Eastiny chain is all good hotels. Clean and friendly. They used to have a sign at the original Eastiny on soi 8 that said, "Please only 2 girls, 3 are too much trouble". I think they still charge you an extra fee if you go over 2.

I stayed at the Eastiny on soi 8 and it is a bit noisy at nght when the beer bars on soi 7 and 8 get rolling. If you like to pick girls from beer bars, you don't want to pick one from the street you live on. You will have to pass her every night.

I stayed at the Eastiny residence on soi 10 last month. It is very quiet. It has internet in several rooms, so ask if you need it. The pools in both places are good and in the residence the zhou (rice porrige) at breakfast is excellent!
I highly recommend them. Oh, and the price is good.

Based partly on reports in this forum I decided to stay at the Queen Victoria on soi 6 for a trip I am planning for Feb. When I inquired about a reservation I was told that I have to pay for 4 nights stay to book the room and then pay the rest when I check in.

Is this normal for Pattaya? I don't mind paying for one day to hold the room but this seems excessive.

The standard deal is no more than one night payment charged to your credit card if you don't show. Given that occupancy rates are hitting all-time lows right now, anything more than that is downright ridiculous.

Picked a girl called Yo from the Irish bar on Walking Street. Bar fine was 300 baht. Went directly across the road to one of the short time hotels. Was very suprised to find how big the bed was and also the facilities. Big flat screen TV on the wall. The room was actually better than my own hotel and only cost 1000baht a night. This place is directly across the road from the Irish bar on Walking Street.

Girl was from Isan and had only working in the bar 2 weeks another girl told me. Not much English at all. Very unsure of herself in the sack, had to be directed to do everything. Good shag though and nice GFE. No english at all made it difficult.

There, you don't need to give them any credit card information nor pay anything when you book your room (if you contact them directly and not via a hotel reservation agency or website) but if you want to pay in cash, you have to pay upfront 3 nights in advance if you intend to stay there that long (or more) and a deposit amounting 500 baht (for the minibar and phone calls I suppose). But if you want or have to leave earlier, they will reimburse the overpayment.

It's probably going to be somewhere between 10K Baht or more, if you could find a taxi to take you. I'd recommend taking a train into Bangkok, and then taking a cab for 1500-1800 baht into Pattaya. The trip would probably take close to 12 hours non-stop by cab.

The Bayshore is actually at the end of walking street, but it's a quiet luxurious oasis. The Bayview is located in the middle of Pattaya Beach, close to Soi 8, but I found it to be noisy because of its proximity to 2nd road. Another hotel that should fit your needs is the Marriott, which is adjacent to the Royal Garden Plaza, which is close to everything.

You can't go wrong at any of these 3 fine hotels.

I hear the Marriott is okay with the guests (not sure about > 1 girl.)

Good find Max,

It looks like I'm going 2 be shut out from my usual Apex Hotel for the 1st 2 weeks of February (the duration of my Pattaya trip)

The place looks decent, the price is right for it looking like it is 1 step above the Apex & if it is GF. I'll book the place this weekend.

Soi Buakhao is not 2 far away from the action, just 1 quick street above 2nd road & a quick baht bus to the beach, bars & walking street if I remember correctly.

I emailed them regarding a booking for the 1st 2 weeks in February & their reply back to me, I didn't get a sense that this place wasn't too friendly so many rules regarding booking a room (sending a passport photo & other info that I have NEVER been asked before while booking any hotel room in my life), breakfast excluded, 1st guest is free, but if want to bring in a 2nd woman later in the day/evening it will cost you 500B--I like having 2 ST or more per day.

The reply smelled like attitude so I'm going 2 pass on this place even though I do like the looks of it.

It might be a thai thing or lack of language/miscommunication as both this place & the Apex hotel have online booking manager that are not too friendly & have put me off from staying there.

For the 1st time in now my 5 trips to Thailand/Pattaya in the past 26 months, I will be going 2 Pattaya blind/no rooms reserved.

I will probably stay somewhere very cheap my 1st night & go hotel hopping during the 1st day & see what kind of deals I can find.

I'm sure another political crisis in the next few weeks will kill off any so called high season they may have left, if it hasnt ruined them for 2009 already.

Stayed at the Sunview last February and was pleased with the prices and quality of rooms. Everything was new and the little patio was great for 2am wide awake time. On the down side, the staff is not very fluent and can have a bit of an attitude. Could be because of all the cameras at the front desk and everywhere else. It is owned by a thai family who live in the building and observe their staff continuously. The pool is tiny and out of the sun most of the day, it is quite a walk to go anywhere and walking along soi bukao is scary as it is very busy and narrow. The baht buses come infrequently and won't stop if you are walking on a curve or a bad stretch. All my friends were in the soi 7/8 area so I found myself riding on the back of taxi bikes a lot.

Word of advice, stay close to where you play even if you are spending a little more. Stayed at The Queen Vic for my initial three nights and for the money/location was a fabulous deal. To be in the middle of soi 6 is an experience. Had them meet me at the airport in their Toyota van. They were there waiting and the ride was smooth. Kinda pricey but at 12:30am you are not going to get a bus out. Back to Sunview. Stayed there 7 nights and when I checked in brought the girl I kept for several days with me at check in. Made the reentry process later no problem. Restaurants are a pretty far walk but there is one little local 24 hour place called Muy Secret Garden just up the road a piece on the right. Excellent food cooked to your order by a nice family. More later.

Can anyone recommend a seaview hotel in and around 1,200 baht price range near soi 13 or soi 8?I have always enjoyed the Sunshine Hotel & Residences on Soi 8, off the Beach Road. The Residence tower is superlative to the hotel wing. Depending who you book with, prices presently are in the 1200 Baht range; after 20 April will drop to around 800 Baht/night. It is GF friendly, and the staff is great. From 2002-2006 I spent several months each year here in Thailand on business and spent most of the time in Pattaya; 2007-present I live in Bangkok and spend just about every other weekend in Pattaya. Obviously, since I am a regular customer, I get more perquisities than the average tourist. But I must say they provide great service to all. When I stay at a place I like, I tend to be loyal, hence my repeated staying there. And they do not blink an eye if you bring a "friend" for the night.

No, I am referring to some roundaboutwith underpass/overpass just 1 km from
Dongtan on the way to Pattaya if my memory is ok.Also I dont really like to
stay at the beach but in some hotel along the way to Pattaya just outside
Dongtan.Sorry to be a little hazy now after 6 months absence but let me get
to a map to be more specific.
Because I stayed too long in Pattaya South around Paradise Inn for 14 to 17
days at a stretch I broke the monotony by going to Sri Racha for the night
opposite City Hotel and also went to Sattahip but found these boring for
mongering. The food in Sri Racha was excellent though for those interested
Much obliged for your help

M3173,

Oh, the underpass you are referring to is located where 3rd and 2nd nearly meets. After the underpass you start you accent up the hill to Jomtien Beach and Dongtan beach,I believe this road is call Tharapaya ( mispelled of course ). I don't believe you will find many or any hotels or rooms in the price range you stated. Near the end of 2nd road there is a old hotel call Marina Inn or hotel that has a jaming after hours disco. Of course this was many years ago when I stayed in this dive. I think I only paid 350 baht.. Just behind the hotel is a Soi that leads right down to the middle of Walking St.. and prior to getting to Walking St... you have to go pass lots of outside bars... food stalls. There is also a small family hotel across the street (side) called I think Holiday? was 500 baht.. much better than the Marina... area not my bag.. but if you like noise go for it.. I stayed for 5 days at the Secrets Villa with a friend.

All in all, I enjoyed the villa. The interior design, furniture, bathrooms etc are all high quality, the garden is beautiful, the pool is great, beds are large and comfortable. There’s a maid staying next door who makes breakfast when and how you want it, washes your clothes and is generally a gem.

I was a bit confused about the rates that are now on the webpage (5000 b for the 2 room villa), and what was in my confirmation email of November (7000 b). A telephone call to the secrets manager cleared this up; Secrets had reduced the rate starting January 1st. I would have paid the initially confirmed rate, of course, but the manager gave me the new rate even without me asking directly. Very accommodating.

The Villa is 15 to 20 mins by taxi from Walking Street, and as it is in a walled in residential area, there really is nothing in its immediate surrounding where you would like to walk to. No quick coffee on the other side of the street. We took the 24h Secrets taxi service most of the time, which functions reasonably well, but you still have to plan ahead a bit.

The walls and trees do not shelter the garden / pool area completely, so you probably will not want to have your large scale orgies with 6 girls from the Hell Club outside in the garden hehe. However, to keep your LT over until late afternoon, play a game of pool (villa has billiard and table tennis) and have an overall good time… the Villa is a great option. Especially for 5000 b for 2 rooms.

Well it has been awhile but I am heading back to Thailand.

However because I am back studying and therefore on a budget, I am trying to figure out where to stay.

Like I loved the areca lodge last time I was there but seeing if I can find something similar to it at a cheaper price.

Anyone got any ideas?

Try Paradise Inn, where I stayed 10days in September. It is only 500 baht
with swimming pool and restaurant and best of all newly renovated by now.
Close to the market in South Pattaya

Hi Guys,

Looks like the new year high season fever is still on with the room rates at Pattaya hotels. Any idea if the room rates are going to be slashed.

I am looking at a Studio room with Kitchenette, with gym and pool at the hotel. Any leads as the names of the hotels and on pricing for March 2009 welcome.

Thanks,

Steve

Anyone got any thoughts on Sunview Place?

Trying to look into Paradise inn, but see a website for it anywhere.

I am looking to pay up to 1000 baht..

Oh and another note, Areca Lodge is fully booked. *sigh* I was gonna try and strong arm them for a deal.

We wanted to set up a 3 girl / 2 guy thingy with Hells, but my friend got a flue, so we canceled one and I took two out. One anal, but that was just because I liked her (I'm not really into anal). Pick them up at 10 p.m., they stay until 6 a.m. at the minimum. 3000 b per.

I always stay at The Flipper House on Soi 7. The only drawback is no in-room safe, but a good clean hotel for reasonable rates.

Breakfast is included, I think for four. There's a reasonable selection of liquor, but we had brought our own. We ate out all the time. There are many restaurants that deliver, there's a booklet in the villa with the menues.

Lots of restaurants and bars in the area. Good pool. Visitor fee is charged for overnight, but only 100 bahts; they take the girl's ID card. This is a good protection for you.

Baht bus past the door, to get to/from Beach Road and Walking Street etc.

Thanks!I've stayed at the Nova Platinum in South Pattaya, and it's a small hotel with a beautiful pool. The rooms are super modern, and each one has a new 32" flat panel TV and DVD player. It's guest friendly, and it's right behind walking street. Greeat value. I think it's just under 1500 baht.

Looks like a good website, however it says the siam bayshore doesnt have a joiner fee, when a search through this forum indicates it does, can anyone clarify this?I stayed there last year, and they DO have a joiner fee. If I remember correctly it was 1, 000 THB. It sure does keep the riff-raff out, and that's what it was intended to do.

IMHO, even though this is a beautiful, quiet, tranquil hotel at the end of walking street, it is not really a very good place for mongering. They discourage it in every way, since they have a lot of families and convention business. The pool is located across the street, and it's very inconvenient to cross walking street in your bathing suits. Lots of better hotels in the area that cater to the mongering crowd.

Ok, so I've read through pages and pages of reports, but still can't seem to find some consistent info on a good hotel. And by "good", I mean that meets our primary needs.

I am headed to Pattaya in March for a few days, alone, and want to be close to the fun. Short walk to beach by day, and short walk to street bars by night. Not looking for anything fancy, but do insist on minimizing the odds of finding cockroaches in my room (the little critters on the floor kind! ).

I see some varying info on this site for hotels, but am looking for someone that has been there recently, enjoyed his stay, and found not only the location to be great, but that the hotel be clearly girl-guest-friendly.

I apologize for asking the same damn question for the umpteenth time, but I just wasn't able to zero in on a hotel as yet.

Any good recommendations out there based on more recent experience?

Thanks guys.

I always stay at the Flipper House on Soi 7 between Beach Rd and Second Rd. It's guest-friendly, they just need to surrender their ID card, beer bars all around, not far from the beach, not far from from the baht bus route, and a good clean hotel with a pool on the roof and room service.

Based on recommendations in this forum I booked rooms in Galaxy (on Soi Diamond) but left after just one day.

The rooms were small and bare (no chair just a stool) but the worst thing was that the shower was on the wall opposite the toilet--there was no separate enclosure. Besides being cramped (with a sink also in the small room) the top of the toilet and the floor were wet the next morning after using the shower.

Also, I got a room on the "quiet" side of the hotel (opposite Soi Diamond) but I could feel the boom of the bass/music from the bar right below the hotel through the floor/bed/pillow. So if you go to bed before the bar closes it is difficult if you are a light sleeper like me.

To their credit, they gave us back our 500 baht deposit for the minibar even though they were disappointed that we left after reserving for 6 nights.

We moved to the Pattaya Bay resort. At 1400 baht/night it isn't that much more expensive than Galaxy, especially when you consider that breakfast is included (no breakfast at Galaxy). Bigger rooms, a pool, and away from the masses. The one negative is that it is on the other side of 2nd. so you have to walk about 5 minutes to reach bars and about 10-15 minutes to Walking Street. But they do have a shuttle if you don't want to walk.

Like the Galaxy it is girl friendly (no fee), has free internet, and safes in the rooms.

Try Eastiny on Soi 10 between Beach and 2nd is pretty good, too

Otherwise for "budget accommodations" try one of the "Sawasdee" chain - Soi honey inn between 2nd and Buakhao, Soi 10 to right off 2nd, Soi 10 between beach and 2nd (to the LEFT off 2nd), soi Honey Inn at Buakhao and Soi Diana between 2nd and Buakhao Some of these are more prone to 6 legged critters but friendly to 2 legged deer - copy ID at desk and go up. Word of warning, though only the one at Honey and Buakhao and the one on Diana have LIFTS. The others are "walk-up" (or is that "drag self up stairs with 2 legs and the arm pulling on the handrail whil huffing and puffing and panting in anticipation of relaxation"? :) ) The prices are not identical - less amenities, lower price

We might be interested in this, but a better fit for us would be:

* 4+ bedrooms
* 1-day rental ok
* has pool
* very close to walking street area (taxi ok, but not too far away would be best)
* obviously, a place where we can party and get wild all night without interference from neighbors, police, etc.

Does anyone know such a place, or can refer a website where I can investigate?

I promise to post reports after our trip/bash!

Thanks a lot guys:)I stayed at both the Tim Boutique and Siam Bayshore last month... Tim Boutique does NOT have a joiner fee but is a bit of an older hotel. The lady does have to leave her ID at the front desk which is good for you for safety reasons. I did pay extra and got the room with a jacuzzi which was great.

Then I moved to the Siam Bayshore where both the rooms were very good and location was great but they charged a 1000 baht per guest joiner fee. One night I did 'sneak' two ladies in. By "sneak", we walked in casually and they were dressed like normal tourists so it was easy around 10pm. But then we went out to clubs and when we returned at 4am, the guard gave us problems and since I was tired and not willing to pay 2000 more baht, they went home. Both came back the next day and I met them in the front of the hotel and walked them in casually and no one said anything.

I plan to be back in Pattaya next week and will be staying at the Marriott (using my points that I collect due to travel for work) so I would be curious if Marriott has joiner fees?

I think a lot of hotels with joiners charge them after a certain time at night eg 8pm. Sounds like this maybe the case here.

When I stayed there about 1.5 years ago it did not. I would imagine some discretion is expected, even required, but shouldn't be a problem. There's also a side entrance (above the bar). I'd go with that if possible (but maybe just because I'm a whimp about the walk of shame factor).

Very nice hotel, btw. Rooms good, not A+, and bathroom small, but hotel and facilities overall are excellent. Great service too, of course.

Hi,

When I was in Pattaya a few months ago I stayed at Sandy Spring hotel and would recommend it.

Never paid a joiner fee - and I have visitors both during the day and at night and sometimes more than one.

Location is good as the road is quiet, but still within wlaking distance of the action.

I had a sea view suite which has a living room, bed room and two bathrooms.

The WIFI was not too good, but worked if I was in the right part of the room.

Room service food is pretty poor, but there are so many options around.

Although I can fully see why so many people rave about Sandy Springs, my experience was somewhat less positive. I would still recommend it to some people, but I think there are other options out there which people should consider.

I've been out of the game for a couple of years now, but I'm back in it, and I thought what better way to get into my old ways than to visit the mecca of mongering: Pattaya!

I researched hotels to death, and the names that kept coming up were Sandy Springs, Flipper House, the LK joints, and some of the Eastiny places. So for my first ever trip to Pattaya, I made a bee line for Sandy Springs.

Positives:
1. excellent location (Soi 13, within walking distance of Soi 6 in one direction, and within walking distance of Walking Street in the other. Also at the sweet spot of Beach road for the SWs).
2. Quiet hotel. I had no problems with loud neighbors or noise from the hallway.
3. Completely GF. No hassles, a few sly looks from the ladies at the reception and bar, but nothing terrible.
4. Staff are excellent, very, very friendly and positive.

Negatives:
1. Wi-fi is not free, and ridiculously expensive (I can't remember exactly how much, but it's something like 50B per half hour).
2. I paid for a deluxe room (1600B), and I had very, very bad wi-fi connectivity, so I couldn't use the wi-fi even if I wanted to. I tried in all parts of the room, but no luck anywhere.
3. The rooms themselves are kind of old and run down. People talk about it being 'clean', which is technically true. But there was a musty smell in my room, and everything was just old and dingy.
4. No safebox in the room, only at the reception. What's more, there is no privacy at the reception, so everyone is watching you as you pull your wads of 1000B bills out of that box.
5. Not enough towels (2 bath, 2 hand towels), not a great shower (one of the telephone shower types, which would move around as the water pressure fluctuated).
6. Breakfast not included in price, and not offered in the hotel.

So I would recommend this place if location is important to you. I booked three nights, and after the first night I started looking for a replacement. I made my way to Areca Lodge, across 2nd street and down Soi Diana. This place was, in my opinion, much better than Sandy, for the following reasons:

1. Cheaper (Standard room=1300B, Deluxe=1400B).
2. Equally GF - I had absolutely no problem with bringing back a go-go girl.
3. Breakfast included in the 1300B price. Breakfast is good, not fantastic, but they have a small omlette station, plenty of toast, sausages, fruit, yogurt, etc. Coffee was very poor, but I am a coffee snob, so there you go. Caffe Pitini is just around the corner from Areca, and I highly recommend this place for top quality coffee (and food in general).
4. Pool was much better (they have two pools, actually, both of which are better than Sandy Springs).
5. They have a small gym.
6. Rooms are cleaner than Sandy Springs. Truth be told, the room I was in was about as old as the one I was in at Sandy Springs, but there was no musty smell.
7. Two free bottles of water included in the room.
8. In-room safe.
9. Staff are equally (if not more) friendly and accommodating than at Sandy. The bell boy was a really cool guy, very helpful, very positive, full of information and assistance. The girls at the desk were also very nice - all chatty and giving me all the info about joiner fees (or lack thereof) at check in.

Areca also did not have enough towels (same as Sandy Springs), and it is farther from the walking street action. But I had a scooter, which made this a non-issue for me.

Sandy Springs is not a bad choice, but just not my cup of tea. For those who will have their own transportation (scooter, motor bike, car), and given the price difference, the increased quality, and equal GF status, the included breakfast and the in-room safe, I would recommend Areca Lodge over Sandy Springs. Also, Areca is close to Soi Buakhao, which is a great soi to discover. So location is not all that bad.

So that's just my opinion based upon one visit to Pattaya. I will be going back over the next week or so, and if my opinion changes, I will definitely post news to that effect.

Although I can fully see why so many people rave about Sandy Springs, my experience was somewhat less positive. I would still recommend it to some people, but I think there are other options out there which people should consider.

I researched hotels to death, and the names that kept coming up were Sandy Springs, Flipper House, the LK joints, and some of the Eastiny places. So for my first ever trip to Pattaya, I made a bee line for Sandy Springs.
If you used tools other than ISG to conduct your research you would find a wider variety of hotels. ISG members seem to be comfortable with the hotels near walking street or the ones previously used by other ISG members. Jomtien Hotels are rarely mentioned here but there are some good deals out there. Never stayed at SS but the White House next door to it is a very comfortable and reasonably priced hotel. Hotels are popping up all over town with some offering free promotions/discounts but you have to reach out to other places (like Asia Travel) to find them.

I can't tell from comments here, or from the hotel's website, whether Areca has WiFi or any kind of internet connection in individual rooms.

Apparently they have some kind of internet cafe in the lobby, but I would like a place with decent connection, either wired or wireless, in the room.

Thanks for whatever information you can provide.

Three years ago when I stayed there they only had the internet room which was not free. However, today their home page has "internet room and wi-fi" as part of the hotel facilities.

I stayed there last weekend, and I can confirm that they do have free wi-fi in the room. I had a standard room in the older building (which is older by 1yr, apparently), and the strength of the signal was sufficient. You need to call the front desk and they will give you the network ID, and presto, you're up and running.

Thanks for earlier responses to my queries about Pattaya hotels.

Have narrowed to three for May trip:

1. Areca Lodge (have stayed in past and liked, but couple of reviews elsewhere say it is starting to look worn and complain of excessive construction noise recently).

2. LK Renaissance

3. LK Metropole

Criteria most important to me are GF (obviously), in-room internet, clean, quiet, decent size room.

Any comments, comparisons, suggestions most appreciated.

Will be there in June, narrowed it down to the Nova Platinum or Tom's Boutique. Location is important but I also want a pool and decent gym.

BTW, how far is the walk from Hard Rock to Walking Street. Want to check out Soi 6 but if by foot is too far from either hotels then will have to use the Tuk Tuk.

You mean Tim's Boutique, although Tom may have one as every Dick and Harry has a Boutique in Pattaya. Nova Platinum is a better deal, there are some (very positive) reports in this thread about NP.

Tim's is good, but no gym, and pool is ok. The big knock on Tim's is that in-room wi-fi is not free. But it is GF, and breakfast is great.

Never been to NP, but I've ridden past there a couple of times. IMHO, location sucks.

Stayed in Nova Platinum last week, and will return there from 11th to 17th.
It is quiet but close enough to the action being less than 10 mins walk away as there is a small soi which leads into the middle of Walking St at GoodFellas. Plenty of small bars and restaurants on the way too.

Pool is fantastic, the gym is adequate, rooms are super clean, good size, not large but very well appointed with the bonus of a full wall mirror next to the bed !!
WiFi is free, it is totally GFand the food is great.
I paid 2577 THB per night total for two with breakfast.

Well Fifty Fifty,
I just have 2 or 3 notes to your post.
2577 THB is far more than I payed last November. I payed about 1900 to 1950 THB depends on the weekday, by booking online over the Nova booking site.
The Hotel is quite good, that is true, but I find it a bit dark. High walls around no balcony, dark floors, nevertheless wifi is very good, big flat screen in room and yes clean.
But, for people whose have problems to walk from Hard Rock Cafe to walking street, (it's a 15 minute walk in a fresh prize, bypassing lots of street walker), it might be difficult to walk the 5 - 7 minutes from NP to walking street.

I plan to be back in Pattaya next week and will be staying at the Marriott (using my points that I collect due to travel for work) so I would be curious if Marriott has joiner fees? There is no joiner fee at the Marriot. The hotel requires the girls to leave their ID's with the front desk.

Guys I quoted 2577 THB, thats the Flexible rate for 11th to 17th April for a Deluxe Room with Breakfast for two. The rate on the website as of now is the same. Be very careful with the Amari Site as the first price given seems low at 1880, but its not flexible and does not include breakfast. I booked my first stay using the website and then got the same price out of the girl at the front desk for my second reservation - not bad at all.

The old building of Nova Platinum has been revamped and corridors are now light and open. Hi all,

First off, a quick update. On my last trip to Pattaya, I stayed at the Marriott and can confirm they have no problem with guests. In fact, because I had a repeat guest on consecutive nights, the security guard/front desk let her up to my room w/o having to give id. In addition, the hotel has a great breakfast, good clean room, expensive internet, ok bathroom, and the balcony was nice too. Location was perfect as it is in the middle of everything yet with all the trees around it, it does have secluded feeling. Typical Marriott service.

Will be heading to Pattaya again next week and staying at the Marriott because I have enough points BUT I am interested in the higher end hotels and wondering if any of you can provide some advice.

In addition to the basics: which are good internet connection, clean soft/kingsized beds, more modern look, clean bathroom, and guest friendly what I am interested in are suite type arrangements with large bathrooms and large tubs (big enough for 2 or 3 so a jaccuzzi would be great) with a great location. Searching other websites, I did find Dusit D2 which is right across from the Marriott (I think) and that would be a choice. However, I do want to hear other choices, if any, and any feedback on Dusit D2?

Check the Sawasdeehotelgroup website:

(To find Pattaya in googlemaps, enter Na Kloe)

There are hotels and hotel like guesthouse a plenty in Patts, just check this thread.
Hotel reservations are usualy easy to make and reliable.

If you don't need the room service or stares at reception, a guesthouse can be a good choice. However, they are not good at taking reservations. Meaning that you can call and they can confirm, but still no room when you arrive...

Hello, fellow travelers,

I'm fortunate enough to be in Pattaya enjoying myself yet staying in a very well appointed hotel away from the constant din.

The Dynasty Resort is a beautiful hotel on top of the only mountain in Pattaya. No motorcy with drunks screaming by at all hours of the day and night, or loud beer bars playing hip hop music.

The hotel is girl friendly with no joiner fee, has a full kitchen/bar with good food, and is clean and modern with beautiful teak finish.

The staff is very friendly, and and the rates are in my oppinion very reasonable. I'm paying 1350 baht per night thru the internet complete with breakfast for 2. If you want this you have to book for 2 and prepay.

There is a nice pool and wading pool for the little ones.

I have been staying here every trip for the last 7 years, and enjoy the tranquility, and relative convience.

Just thought I would pass it on to my fellow travelers.

To find it just google Dynasty resort.

You might struggle for any hotel with a pool near Jomtien beach for thirty quid these days, though I got a suite at the Jomtien Gardens for about that three years ago. This area has become increasingly popular with Bangkok Thais in recent years, particularly on the weekends, hence the room rates.

There were a few guest houses in and around Soi 5 that were quite cheap when I was there (this is also the main beer bar area in Jomtien, surprise surprise). Other punting opportunities are in the back of the Jomtien Complex - the built-up centre where the main road snakes down to the beach from the hill - and a couple of mediocre agogos on said section of the road. More punting opportunities were the Nineteenth Hole near Siam Country Club and the Winchester Pub (may have changed it's name but a Google should find it) in South Jomtien.

Of course, Pattaya and it's mythical shirtless brawling drunks plus it's myriad of punting opportunities is a ten minute 30bt Songtheaw ride away.

Transport to and from the action is not a problem 24/7 anywhere from the northern part of Jomtien to the southern part of Naklua. But the closer you get to the Beach Road/Second Road loop (and more recently Soi Buakhao), the quicker you will get around the playgrounds that are the primary reason for your visit. If you venture away from these loops you will sometimes spend 30/40 mins waiting/travelling as opposed to the 5 to 10 mins in the central areas.

Also, don't walk around up on the hill at night: It's an area notorious for muggings.

BANGKOK: -- Tourism operators in Pattaya plan to offer free hotel rooms from May 1 to Oct 31 to attract local and international tourists during the low season.

Apart from hotels, restaurants and shopping malls will also join the campaign, offering discounts up to 50%. Final details will be decided tomorrow.

The seaside resort city is facing difficult times because of the global economic recession and local political problems, said Chatchawal Supachayanont, president of the Eastern Chapter of the Thai Hotels Association (THA).

"With this campaign, we hope tourists and meeting, incentive, convention and exhibition (Mice) activities will be lured back to Pattaya again and tourism sentiment will improve as well," he said.

Mr Chatchawal said Pattaya's hotels had about 20,000 rooms and that all operators would join the promotion.

"This is the first time we have had co-operation from all parties, aiming to restore Pattaya's tourism image," he said.

"Average occupancy was not so bad at around 30-40% after the Songkran festival. But we are very concerned about reservations from overseas, which are not coming yet."

Pattaya's image took a hit just before Songkran when red-shirted protesters forced the cancellation of the Asean Summit after they stormed the meeting site, the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel.

Operators in Pattaya hope that when Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva goes abroad he will be able to explain the problems in Thailand and how the government intends to solve them, in order to restore confidence among visitors.

You might want to check the Mercure Pattaya. I heard it is a high end hotel under the Accor company. I booked a deluxe room for just under 2000 baht. I have not yet stayed there as I booked for an upcoming trip in June but I plan on dividing my stay between the Mercure and Marriott.

Marriott is about a 10 minute normal walk to "walking street." Price is exactly within your price range. Personally, I ave not stayed there yet (will in June) but by as you have read it is a very nice hotel.

So many factors go into selection of hotel.

But one thing I've found around Pattaya is that what was nice last year, can get run down pretty fast.

So, just wondering, if sole criterion was newness of hotel (at least within walking distance of action, and hopefully with in room internet), what is choice in the under 2000 baht per night category?

That ia about as central to the action as you can get with the added advantage of being a very quiet soi in regards passing traffic and noise from the street.

The Residence has been built about 10 years but have added a complete new wing that only opened last year. Rooms in the new wing should set you back no more than 1500 Baht.

They charge for in house internet but I found a better and cheaper option was to buy a weekly (or monthly) pass from the travel agency opposite for access to their system.

That worked in all the bars and restaurants up and down the soi and even on the beach at the bottom of the soi and the plaza around McDs at the top of the soi.

The only downside to the AA Residence is they have no on line booking system. It has to be booked via e-mail or fax.

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Pattaya-Woo-Visitors-Free-Rooms-t259369.html

Nothing much heard, however I do note that there seem to be plenty of offers on sites such as asiatravel.com, hotels with stay 6 nights pay 4 etc.
Maybe that constitutes the Free Room that this 'politically soft' article is referring to??
As for getting an entirely Free Room, dont hold you breath, you might as well wait for a Free Lunch to go with it.

Cheers, FFI agree - no business will give it away completely for free, so it will be one or two free nights if you stay and pay for other nights. Checking the hotel websites, a number of hotels have also slashed prices the past week or so.

I've narrowed my choices down to Pattaya Bay Resort or Areca Lodge, where deluxe rooms are around 1300, and very large exec suites are around 2300. Both places are in good locations, good reviews on various hotel sites, GF, have large pool and Wifi. My plan is to just roll up next week, check the rooms then make a good deal for a 5-6 night stay on the spot.

Another hotel with good reviews but not mentioned on this thread is www.GrandHotelPattaya.com - good location (Soi 14), good views overlooking beach, large clean rooms, and GF. 900/night for a standard room, 1300/night for deluxe room, but no pool.

Piper,

Those are two I've used on recent trips. Some of the rooms at Areca Lodge are beginning to show wear, but overall a good deal and great location.

Pattaya Bay Resort slightly newer, and I would give rooms there slightly higher grade. But even though it is close to action "as the crow flies," it is a little bit remote if traveling on foot. Areca only meters from some fun spots, but you gotta hike a ways from Pattaya Bay Resort.

Swimming pools are nicer at Areca. Food a little better at Pattaya Bay. Neither has great in-room internet reliability.

I'm headed Pattaya way in three weeks, and am leaning towards giving the LK Renaissance a try this trip. Anyone have comments about it? Especially in relation to these other two, as it seems more expensive by about 400 baht per night.

Spent few days in Pattaya at the time of ASEAN Summit that got cancelled due to demonstrations (that could see directly from hotel window). Stayed in Nova Platinum Hotel and can warmly recommend to fellow punters. New or at least newly decorated. Good location, 5-10min walk to walking street, yet quiet at night. Totally GF; saw some claims on the board that have age limit of 20, but not true at least in my case. Nice pool with wet bar. Breakfast pricey but can get a decent American one on the bakery opposite side of the road for under 100B. Limited statistics of Pattaya though, but can not go much wrong with this one.

Booked by email directly to them, paid 1500/night.

Agreed, I was there at the same time too. If you can get this Hotel for 1500 a night, then it has to be somewhere near the top of the list IMHO. The pool is one of the best and the service is excellent too. Location is a handy walk, but Baht Buses passing by make life very easy for us older members :D

As for LK Renaissance, met up with a fellow ISG'er who was staying there, he was very happy with the place, service and price, another to be recommended.

Cheers, FF

Another good hotel, very girl friendly, and a nice atmosphere, right in the centre of the action is the Queen Victoria on Soi 6. Rooms from about 800 up to 2100TB. Don't use their airport pick-up service though, very steep at 3600 ONE WAY! It is an 8 seater though - but still! They have a web-site, Google them for more info. No pool though. I can also thoroughly recommend the Flipper House hotels I think one is on Soi 7 and the other on Soi 8. Again Google them. Very girl friendly as well. Both have pools. About 1500 to 1800TB

Happy hunting!

Queen Victoria on Soi 6...

Don't use their airport pick-up service though, very steep at 3600 ONE WAY! It is an 8 seater though - but still!

1,900 Baht for the minibus a couple of months ago and still at that price on their website. A little pricier than a street car but it makes the journey a pleasure so I did it both ways!

Stayed four nights in January in one of the Superior rooms. A great spot for the price. The Governor, Vic, is a warm, welcoming guy. Good european food, nice staff, altogether a fine easy going place to stay.

Matt Navan Man. Checking my emails between Vic and I, your absolutely right about the price. My apologies to Queen Vic. For some reason I had in my head it was 3600 each way. It is NOT, it is a return price! Considering it's up to 8 pax, that does make it a very good deal if there are several of you.

Must have been pre-occupied with something. Can't think what!

Looks like it's a good time to post this informative report by Tiger_888 again. Taxis are fine, but good things happen on long bus trips.
There are basically 3 bus companies serving BKK Airport-Pattaya.

1. Best travel: in BKK airport there is always someone sitting on a chair opposite of the tourist police stand on Level one next to door 7. The price is 150 Baht and the bus will go to the North Pattaya Bus stop. Leaving from the airport at 8am, 10am, 12nn, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm.
At the north Pattaya bus stop they have their own air conditioned office and waiting room, buses leaving at 6am, 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm. Tel. 02-7474675, 038-370055

2. The Transport co. Ltd, they have a booth on level 1 one door further down (I think it is door no.8). The price is 106 Baht, leavinf the airport at 6.45am, 9.15am, 1.15pm, 5.15pm and going to Jomtien Busstop. (But You can get of at the reaffic light around the north pattaya Bus stop). Back from Jomtien to tha airport at 9am, 1pm, 5pm, 7.30pm
Tel. 02-1344099, 038-231142

3. The Rungruang Tour Co., leaving from the Airport bus terminal. You need to take a free shuttle bus from outside exit 5 on level 2 to the bus terminal (takes about 10 minutes). Departure there to Pattaya is at 8am, 11am, 3 pm, 7pm. I couldn't find out their return schedules. Tel. 02-5765599

Matt Navan Man. Your absolutely right!

Having checked my emails between the Queen Vic and myself, the price is 3600 RETURN! My apologies to Queen Vic. Not such bad value after all, especially if there is a group of you. But how often do we travel in groups?

Had my mind on other things I suppose. Can't think what!

(this is second post as first didn't seem to come out, apologies if it posts twice!)

I can concur that the Queen Vic is a decent place to stay in a good location (Soi 6) and that for the price, I don't think it can be beaten. It cost me 600 baht a night in December last year and provided a clean room with TV, DVD and WiFi, all free. The WiFi was a deal breaker. For that price it was a done deal. Also, the pub downstairs has good pub food and a friendly atmosphere. You can access the rooms late at night from the fire escape at the back and I had no problems at all bringing in girls.

As for transport, I can't comment since I got the Bell Travel bus from the airport for 160b (I think) and met a cute Brit who was taking a sabattical in Thailand for six months. I lost touch with her when she went off with a diving instructor . . . On the way back to Bangkok I just got a taxi for 1000b. I could have got the bus but I couldn't be arsed.

A good hotel, good price, good location and WiFi, what more would you ask for, except maybe a pool. I enjoyed my stay and will stay there again when I can get a release form from 'she who must be obeyed' !

I recommend this place, very clean, nice people, good pool. Slightly away from the action but this can be good, you feel you have left Pattaya and returned to normality, no girl bars in the vicinity. Some excellent eating places nearby, hard to spend more than 30 baht, some of the best food I eaten in Thailand (turn left out of the hotel, then first right - there is one on the right and an E-san stall on the left, both excellent). Also a large market nearby which includes two massage stalls, very good massages from 80 to 200. In the hotel, the 390 baht rooms are very good, but worth paying 450 for bigger beds and more space.

Slightly off topic as I am looking for a base for the summer months for myself and family which due to the circumstances has to be away from the action. Have previously stayed in bangkok and koh samui with the missus so she is not totally ignorant of what goes on! Could anyone advise how family friendly is the Jomtien beach area or is everything still in your face?

I have looked at some villas on the internet called butterfly villas which are between Jomtien and Pattaya and have been advised area is safe and is near where some of the royal family stay. Is this true and has anyone heard of the place?

If the place is totally non family friendly then I will have to look elsewhere. Only reason I am considering the area is because some friends have a villa nearby.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Relax. There is no "in-your-face" p4p activity along Jomtien Beach Road, day or night, and most accommodations are perfectly family friendly.

Sorry to say that I had very bad experiences at LK Metropole also at their condo style apartment building on the corner (different trip). Can't recommend. If you really have a lot of time on your hand see my 2007 reports.

I stayed there a few years back, nothing fancy of course, for that price, but relatively central, clean and convenient. Internet access only downstairs.

Thanks.

Any advise would be appreciated.I stay in Jomtien a few times and it is probably the most family friendly spot you can find in Pattaya. It is a good 5 min taxi ride to Walking Street, so it is away from all of the girlie bars of walking street.

I would definitely concur on the 'condo style apartment on the corner' - it absolutely sucks. I was offered a 1-bedroom deluxe for 1000B (great price), but it was on the 4th floor, *no elevator* (think about doing this with six beers in you and a drunk girl on your arm). It was the only room they had in the hotel, and I thought with 1000B I can't go wrong. besides, Areca Lodge as all sold out.

But the elevator is one major problem, and there was no hot water either. So if that is all they have available to you, I would strongly recommend you walk. They call it, by the way, the 'New wing', but don't let that fool you - it sucks.

The main building, however, is pretty good. I have stayed here three times, and all three times it has been very good. Never hassled about anything, rooms are large, clean and quiet, bathrooms are well maintained, etc. I would recommend the old building, for sure.

On a separate note, anyone have suggestions for 2-bedroom luxury cond/villa rentals?

Residence Gardens and Pinewood on Second road ahve 2 bedroom apartments. I've never stayed in either but I saw a Pinewood room a few months ago. The room looked very nice and I may stay there next time.

Residence Gardens has a website but I'm not sure if Pinewood operates a website.

kumbu:

i agree, the condo is really bad, wlan wasn't working for most of the time and it is extremly (really!) noisy (from the open-air bar beer across). no elevator, i was also on the 4th floor. the best feature of my spacious condo was the fact that i could watch the working girls hanging out infront of [CodeWord901] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord901)'s on soi lk metro/diana:-))

These are the only two hotels that I have stayed at in Pattaya.

Marriott is nicer but for room cost savings, breakfast savings, internet savings and laundry savings choose the Nova Platinum. It has all the same amenities.

I used the in-house massage in my room and although it is more expensive the girl had better skills than other places I tried. Some places they just rub oil on you so it is not really a massage. Also you have more privacy. Another good veggie massage place is Queen of Massage. They have some young girls there although I used an older one. The only problem was the guy snoring in the cubicle next to me. If someone is going to snore I want it to be me.

I have read reports about the Galaxy Suites and they over book then bigger rooms and don't tell you until you arrive. They then offer you a shitty little room.

The reports I have read on Tims that it is good.

Have Fun!It's located one the 1st soi ( side street) from Walking St. down the Soi about 50 meters. You won't miss it because it has a huge Las Vegas style sign on the front.

So as you are walking away from the main entrance of Walking St you will see the Soi ( side street on your left). It's the 1st one.

I just checked out the Flipper Lodge on Soi 8 in Pattaya on

http://www.thaihoteldiscounts.com

and a standard room @ 898 Bht including an Am. B/F at face value looks a very good price.

I stayed there about 8 yrs. ago and I just wondering if anyone has booked in there recently and what was it like?

I looked at their website but I still couldn't work out whether each room included a free internet Wi-fi connection or not, which is important consideration for me these days as I need to use my lap top everyday for business. Sorry to trouble but does anyone have any update on that situation?

It was GF before, so I am assuming it hasn't changed its status on that score...I hope!!!

Thanks in advance.

I agree that the Marriott has by far the nicest pool and the grounds are cool and relaxing.I have frequently stayed at the Marriott and agree with everything you all say.

The downside is of course: Cost as it is quite expensive for breakfast, laundry, and internet as well as room.

It is the internet that bothers me the most as I often use the internet for meetings and streaming TV from my home country. But not sure if there is a better solution in Pattaya. Please let me know of better alternatives if you do know.

But the location is great as it is close to everything. Also the pool and overall quiet atmosphere nestled with what is around it is often very relaxing.

Plus the fact, I have brought back women at all hours without any problems is always good.

Please let me know of better alternatives if you do know. There are many fine hotels in Pattaya that do not charge for internet access and comparable to the Marriott. The much discussed Nova Platinum is a perfect example, Mantra Pura, another Hotel away from the action is another.
