The Pleyboy Club is not way out of town. It is in the city but a long way from Bocagrande.

La Escollera was torn down over a year ago. The tallest building in Colombia will be built on the site-condos.

San Pedro Claver is the name of a priest after whom a church was named. The church stands in a plaza named for the church. There is no club or disco that I know with that name. Giro Matto is about a block from the church.

It is Matuna not Maturna.

I think this is Babar, a popular disco in the old city. And I've never heard La Perla casino called La Perla Del Caribe, but what do I know...

WorldTravel69 nice work all those lists.

But why creating creating all those new threads? Seems a bit overdone to me: two threads on every city in Colombia.

Isn't it better to put all your lists under the alread existing threads of the cities were they belong to?
Later on you can always make one post in the thread "Reports of Distinction" in which you put the links to all your lists.

The list originally posted here has been superseded by an updated list posted on 09-02-06.

About all I can add is that there is a quite a bit of street action all over Laguito, Bocagrande, and Centro. However, Cartagena primarily caters to Colombian families. Street solicitation is illegal, AND that prohibition is enforced. As a result the street action is not in-your-face. You make eye contact with a chica and smile. She may say, "A donde va?" or "Where are you going?" You can say, "A mi cama contigo. Cuantos por un rato?"

Las Americas is on the beach but also on the "outskirts" of Cartagena. It is an upscale but family oriented hotel on the road to Barranquilla and is not close to Boga Grande or Laguito. Cab rides are available but it is not in the heart of action. Most of those hotels will let you do the walkmof shame and "register" your guest for a fee, call them and check it out. Best bet is an apartment in Laguito if you do not have previous experience there or a "girlfriend".

I'm in Laquito right now at the connection internet cafe trying to burn an hour before everything starts to get going at LDV. If you don´t have an apartment in Laguito your up a creek for real because you´ll have to take a taxi everywhere. An apartment in Laguito means that LDV is literally 3 to 4 minute walk away. Think about that when you get your prize and your trying to make it to the room. plus your adding to the cost not to mention the hassle at that place you stated. Doubt very seriously they´ll let girls in there because when I stop through to check it out not only was the price outrageous but it was crazy families with kids running around. yeah I can just see you bring her to breakfast in the morning and she´s still wearing her ¨work¨ clothes. Avoid the hassles and get an apartment in Laguito. There are mad police around so safety is not an issue but street action is very limited. have fun.

This is about 3 months late, but for posterity's sake, I've stayed at Las Americas, with a girlfriend, and it didn't appear to be a guest friendly place. The guard at the gate gave us some crap late one evening, thinking she wasn't registered, but after we got a little pissed he let us in without checking with the front desk. I think you could get a hooker in if you were sneaky. Make sure she's not dressed like a **** and don't show up at 3:00 AM. There's a second entrance farther from the city, and if you go in there and wind around the property, the only person that you'll have to contend with is a guard.

hi guys

so that you know what you're getting yourself into, should you rent from cartagenapartments.com, they have apartments in one building called "el conquistador".

the photos on the site do not reflect the reality of the building. it is a run down building from the 60s, paint is chipped/rusted all over, everything in the apartments is filthy, cockroaches galore, you must unlock a heavy grill to enter your apartment, sheets smell like [CodeWord113] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord113), and, gravest of all, it is an extremely guest-unfriendly place.

the cherry on the cake is when they don't pick you up at the airport after saying they would...

caveat emptor.

Bartchamdo
05-31-06, 17:27
I agree with what you say, Freedick. El Conquistador is a place to avoid. It didnt bother me that it´s a little run down. I haven´t seen any cockroaches so far.

The biggest problem is that it´s not guest friendly. It definitely should be avoided by anyone hoping to take company back there! And since I paid everything in advance I don´t have any way to cancel and switch hotels.

The idea of lists is a great one, but the one for cartagena seems to be corrupted with wrong info. I keep finding references to places that seem to be in barranquilla. I think I´ll be relying more on first hand reports rather than compilations from readers.

Tom 33

I have lived in Cartagena for over 3 years and am here now. WT's list seems to be pretty good. However, I really haven't been to any casas for over 2 years, and I don't much go out late at night.

Exactly what do you think is wrong?

Tom 33
06-01-06, 12:51
"There as a couple of ok apartments in the building." That is quite true. However, as of about 2 months ago the guest policy changed. You can still rent a nicer apt. in el Conquistador, but you cannot have any female company in that nicer apt.

Tom 33
06-02-06, 23:36
There is a casa by that name in BAQ, and I have never heard of one with that name in CTG. However, casas open and close. If you must do the casa crawl, it's probably best to ask a taxista. Realize, however, that the taxistas are paid commissions by the casas.

I heard that the Pleyboy Club has changed names.

Tom 33
06-03-06, 14:23
That's the one. It has gone downhill.

Some apartments are still nice. A friend of mine owns one. They just changed management companies and hope to turn things around.

Frankly there has been a problem with many buildings in Laguito and probably all of the Bocagrande Penninsula(except Castillo Grande). A good number of absentee owners were not paying their monthly association dues. Colombian law does not make it easy to collect. Gradually the deadbeats are selling their apartments. Upon sale all arrears must be paid. And the new owners generally are going to pay their monthly fees.

I heard that the Pleyboy Cub has changed names.A taxista took me off to Lusitania yesterday. We arrived at a residencial street and the taxista asked a local about the place. Turns out it´s gone. He took me to Rocio´s, which he had kept trying to talk me into in the first place.

I went to Pleyboy Club a few nights ago. AFAIK there´s no name change. At least all the taxistas call it by that name.

Tom 33
06-03-06, 22:58
It will probably be known as Pleyboy for quite awhile yet. And I do not have any first-hand knowledge. I had just heard that the name had to change courtesy of Hefner's lawyers.

Don't think so, Continential ( copa), and delta ( avaianca) do.

Star Alliance is HORRIBLY weak in South America. Air Canada from Toronto or Vaqrig from Sao Paolo, and BOTH those ONLY get you to Bogota. MUCH better to have American, Continental or Delta miles for Colombia. If you want to consider a trade (I give you an AA award to Colombia anbd you give me a UA award), please PM me. United is BEST for Asia, and American's program SUCKS BIG TIME for Asia.

I can conquer about lots of LDV and other working girls that rent three or four to a room. Some even live with their kids. It’s a gold mine of working girls, especially during the day when options are limited, but I would never stay there. Out of the several rooms that I got to see not one had AC (I was sweating like an animal).

I strongly recommend getting in good with a working girl that stays at the Conquistador, especially if you are staying close by (I was staying across the street at the Playa Mar). I picked up a cutie at the LDV my first night in CTG and like a gentleman walked her across the street the next day to the Conquistador. She introduced me to her roommates and other friends and got to observe the chicas in their natural habitat. Then I got to bang the ones I liked (which ended up being mostly all of them during my 10 day stay, yes I know I am pig). Of course all her roommates had friends that lived in the building and got to play with some of them as well (I was always up front with my good intentions).

It was so bad that this one elevator operator gave me the evil grin every time I was in the elevator with a different chica. I felt like a real sk@nk.

Now that my favorite Julia's is no longer there, does anyone know of any other restruants that have both Colombian ( I love Arepa and Tamals for breakfast, plus have american style breakfast?

Risquismo- not my favorite for breakfast
Crepes and waffles- once in while
there was another place down from julia's towards the hilton that was not bad.

anyone know any others ?

Tom 33
06-23-06, 16:25
You are in luck. Julia's is re-opening on the beach about 100 yards to the west of the old location. Claudia, the owner, told me that they should be open within a few days.

I breakfast at Loco Gringo. They have great pancakes with maple syrup. Eggs are also available. The jugos and coffee are wonderful.

I have not tried it, but I heard that the Hilton has a breakfast buffet that is pretty good.

The Israeli Restaurant also serves breakfast. Noam, the owner, has sold half of his business to Schlomy. They are both great guys who speak English and plan to upgrade the restaurant.

There is another place toward Bocagrande from Loco Gringo. I think it's called the Tropical. It's on the same side of the street as Loco Gringo about 50 yards past it.

If you want cheap, try the place on the corner of San Martin and the street to Olimpica nearest Olimpica. For 3300 pesos you get eggs, toast, and coffee or chocolate. It's a great place to watch the chicas going to work.

Well my opinion of Crepes and Waffles is that the place sucks. They don't open until 11:00 a.m. Isn't Crepes and Waffles fucking breakfast food? I finally went back to check it out and I can make a meal that would blow that place away. Tried the one in Bogota also and a Waffle House could put it to shame. Overpriced, bad mediocre food at best and shitty service.

MJG Dogs

It is overpriced that is for sure. I wonder if your friend Pryicon eats there.

Tom 33
06-24-06, 15:15
I like the place, but I don't eat the crepes or waffles. The salad bar is very nice as is the tomato soup and pan cook(Various things in a bread bowl. I am partial to the stroganoff). Sit on the terrace(open after 5:00 or so). The chicas who come to eat there dress well and look tasty.

I haven't noticed the service being that bad. Of course I am now used to slow service. I would call it medium priced.

Beav, WTF did they do to you? It took me awhile to get used to the place and the menu.

MJG Dogs

I am hitting CTG 8-18 thru 8-28. Tom send me a private e-mail. I would like to meet you for a drink or something. Your information is very helpful.

Beavis, I am still waiting for your gators to be shipped to the Rio Grande.

Question:

I want to go to the beach and not be disturbed by a zillion touts, massage laides and others, I assume if I go further towards the Airport, up from Bocagrande my chances of not being bothered are much better. Does anyone know of a nice beach, lets say 15-20 minutes north of Bocagrande? I don't need the ability to buy food or rent a chair. I will bring my own. I also assume the water is cleaner away from toutland. It would be nice to spend a day at the beach and be able to relax, read a book, soak up rays and not be molested.
Maybe I am asking too much for Cartagena?

Beav, WTF did they do to you? It took me awhile to get used to the place and the menu.

The first time I went there it was 9:00 a.m. and a cocky waiter told me that they didn't open until 11:00 or Noon I don't remember which. Isn't crepes and waffles what people eat for breakfast? Regardless of whether you are in Colombia or not? O.K. I dissed that then went again at a later time. This time the service was terrible and the food about as bad. My wife/novia then ordered some kind of drink and when the waiter brought the food he forgot the drink. It was maybe 20 minutes before we saw him again then it took maybe 10 more before he brought the drink to her. The food sucked, service was worse and I thought it was way overpriced. The small local restaurant around the corner from the camera shop was much better.

MJG

Down near Marbella is where my wife's family goes to the beach. There will be no Gringos there.

The beach along Castillo Grande is relatively tout-free. The small beach area behind Playa Mar and Torre Centauro is pretty quiet as well. You just need to avoid the beach along Bocagrande and the western end of Laguito.

Sorry to hear of your bad experience, Beav. I don't ever recall seeing a male employee at Crepes and Waffles. Of course I generally don't notice males. Have you tried the new location on San Martin across from McDonald's? The story of this restaurant is that it was started by a woman to give employment to unwed mothers. Hey, that sounds familiar. I give employment to unwed mothers as well. Of course I pay better, and they don't have to work as long.

Beavis
06-24-06, 22:01
Yea I don't think he was normally a waiter. Maybe a dishwasher. I haven't been there in almost 2 years but will live in Colombia in the future. About 4 hours east of El Laguito though.

The Jet Ski touts hit me up behind playa mar also, but yes it is not nearly as bad as bocagrande. I do like Beav's suggestion about marbella.

Tom- One other question- Chinese food in CTG? any decent? Just curious

Tom 33
06-25-06, 13:36
I'm not much of a gourmet, but I order domicilio from Jardin Chino in Bocagrande. Their rice dishes serve 4 or 5 for 16K. There are several other Chinese restaurants that I have not tried.

There is also street action in all of Laguito and Boca Grande. You can find some in Centro and Getsemani as well.

Restaurants:

There is a Crepes and Waffles in Boca Grande on San Martin as well as the one in Centro.

Loco Gringo is evolving into a more full-service restaurant.

Club de Pesca on the north end of Manga Island is superb.

La Dulceria on San Martin in Boca Grande has good salads and sweets.

Julia's has relocated to the beach in Laguito.

Restaurante San Pedro Claver in Centro is very nice.

There are really too many good restaurants. And I keep finding new ones.

My bank (HSBC) does not have a branch in Colombia. But I have a Master debit card that works well all over Brazil. Any experience using Master debit cards at ATMs in Colombia, and any estimate on the fees? Also what is the best rate of exchange for US $ and where.

Thanks,

It depends upon the network(s) that your debit card is connected to. There should be no problem. The exchange rates vary daily. Most ATMs generally give the same rate. Colombian banks charge no fees but generally limit you to 300,000 to 400,000 COP per withdrawal. Now the exchange rate is around 2500 COP per dollar. You can make as many withdrawals in a row as your home bank limit will allow. You home bank fees will be all you pay. Of course you indirectly pay a conversion fee which is factored in to the exchange rate you get.

I used an HSBC debit card on San Andres in May. Not sure what bank the ATM was from. No fees on either end and the exchange rate was very favorable for the time. They do set some pretty small limits on withdrawal amounts.

Another place where you can bring in your companion, its not one of the cheap places, they start with USD 200 but go down if you request better rate (more or less to 300.000 incl. ABF for 2) real nice place 5 min. from the airport, reg. girls I was lucky (very lucky) at Playboy (or similar) and had a total GF experience.

Went to pleyboy club last night (Wednesday) and it wasn't happening that much. Only 24% full, although a lot of hot gals. Wanted 150K COP for an hour and another 150K COP to take home. Beers were 7000 cop. Mister Babilla was dead also, and Barbas was closed. Checked out a club called Issics or something like that. 10K cop fee to enter, beers 7K cop each. As soon as you start talking to a gal, she will immediately start ordering a drink for herself which will be at least 15K copa, so be careful. Chicas here are OK. Some 10's amount a group of 6's, 7's and 8's. However, the better gals wanted 400K copa for TLN. The guy at the door said it was going to be 150K copa for TLN, but he had lied to us. Felt really ripped off here. And would highly recommend against going to this tourist trap which was in the old city. Ended up at LDV (where else, right? ) and most of the gals here (it was around 2am) wanted 300K copa for TLN, but the best I could do was get them down to 220K copa ($100US). Which wasn't that bad. Gal was GFE, and I got a couple rounds off with her. Will try some local guides now.

Hi,
I'm sorry if I have just posted in Medellin and Cartagena area.
I speak a fluent spanish and I'd like to know if it is better Cratagena or Medellin.
I don't like brothels, night clubs, etc
I like to meet a girlfriend to enjoy and play with her for one week.
What is better? Medellin o Cartagena?
thanks for some info

I took a couple of Cartegena hookers to Medellin to the mansion, and then week later took a couple hookers from Medellin to Isla Rosarios.

I would never do it again, two at a time that is. The two Cartegena hookers were great together for one night stands. But I discovered after a day or two they got bitchy and started teaming up that I was not buying them enough. At the end it seemed like they were competing with each other to see who could act cheated the most and get her way. The 18- 20 somethings just don't know any better.

With the Medellin hookers that I flew to Cartegena and then we took a boat to Isla Rosarios (great place, very romantic) the first 3-4 days was OK, the last several days one of the hookers was complaining of cramps, the last two days she was full throttle period. She was pissed as hell when I reduced her payment, she couldn't perform so I felt that was fair, but she had convinced herself she SHOULD be paid FULL commssion of course the other girl agreed with her so they were both pissed.

Then the other one was on the phone half the time, and wouldn't even let me do her while she talking!! Also they slept with each other rather then me which started irritating the hell out of me after the first few nights, and I am a quiet respectful sleeper!!! So that was less desirable than I had anticipated. But overall both Cartegena and Medellin girls were FUN, but having two at the same time didn't work out like I thought it would and being in the middle of two women with major money issues about me, got old quick!

In terms of which is better?? Neither, it depends on you and the situation how comfortable you are in the situation you create. For me it was easier to meet girls and other Americans in Cartegena. Many North Americans are frequent visitors of Cartegena, have a few drinks hang out at their apartments and they will introduce you to some cool women.

Alternatively, through the Medellin establisments (Mansion, etc) are great because they can be a safe leison between the girl and you. And mainly the woman needs to feel safe when she is traveling with you, then she will usually be nice and far less money driven as long as you are both are having fun. From now on the two girl traveling scene (like I did) . . . I would not recommend, though it did have it's rare fun moments it generally just took too much effort to get them both on the same page mood wise to really work.

11-06-06, 16:46
I couldn't imagine negotiating $$ with a chica (pro) to take her on vacation to a different city in Colombia. Of course ... to each his own :)

I've met some nice GFE pros who I've gotten along with really well and made some excursions with them ... as friends (of course with full benefits).
If you've got the chemistry with someone, they'll go with you just to enjoy your company and nice hotel / food / fun, etc. and feel like a lady.

Just my 2 pesitos ..........

Suerte!

Giggity
11-06-06, 16:57
If you were to do that again, perhaps it would be wise to instead take only one girl on the road with you, and pick up girls one at a time to join you "a la carte" once your destination is reached, instead of traveling with two that are constantly together. It might be very easy, given that the girls on location might be put at ease by the fact that one girl is already comfortable enough to travel with you. And like you said, the girl you travel with must be very comfortable with you... so it would probably be important to have her for a couple of days in her hometown before you go off into the unknown.

Also, I think you once mentioned that your Spanish is good, but if it isn't, then it just opens the door to long hours of conspiring between the two. A recipe for disaster!

Zidaho

I guess I am a glutton for punishment at times. I just hope I don't feel the need to be trying that again any time soon!!

My negotiation skills need improvement. I get too infatuated with a certain look or personality of a pro and feel I just need to offer her more to have her. It's probably just a matter of practice and confidence plus knowing I may need to hear a few no's before I find a yes. I definitely need more practice. If I can gain a comfortable command of Spanish I am certain I could be more sucessful in my negotiations. But the other variable I am strapped with is that generally don't have a lot of time to pick and choose, but fortunately this forum provides an opportunity to start thinking about it before hand, and that's a nice boost.

So what would be a fair price to pay for taking a pro on a 3-4 day excursion. And knowing Ricker . . . it is possible to do so without paying is great but if there is some chemistry and it is fun, plus if I am after a certain look or personality in a woman, would say $50. - $75 per day be about right? Also I am 51, so I imagine a young pro is going to expect something besides food, transportation, and entertainment. Any advise? Thanks.

Ricker
11-06-06, 19:40
Amigo ... bottom line is, you're correct ... being able to speak spanish is key.
Better negotiating with the pros and better fun with non-pros.

First of all, I'm no Don Juan by any means. Really the only thing I have going is my experience and ability to speak spanish (not like a native, but pretty well).

If I was going to ask a pro that I met to travel with me I would first consider if we at least had some chemistry together. No chemistry ... then why travel with her?
If you have to have her ... pay her for the couple hours and move on ... there will be plenty of new hot chicas at your destination (ie Medellin / Cartagena).

If you do indeed have some chemistry and she's a cool chica, she should feel flattered that she's being asked to go on an all expenses paid vacation, whether it be Medellin, Rosario Islands, whatever.

Depending on your spanish ability, you can say to her that you know she'll be missing work and that you'll help her with a little cash at the end of the trip.
If she's really cool, she'll say don't worry about it and just go with you to enjoy.
Otherwise she should just say "muchas gracias" and hope for a little cash at the end.

Really, paying her too much is just not worth it ... like I said before, you can always easily find a new hot chica if your destination (like yours was) is Medellin or Cartagena ... without having to pay her airfare, etc.

It's hard to put a number on the amount to pay her if you are ... it all depends really on your relationship with her and how she treats you.

If she treats you like crap pay 0. If she treats you like a King, reward her.

NEVER pay in advance!

I wish you luck amigo!

Your amigas are very sexy Z ... but as you prob. saw in Medellin, there would be no problem at all finding chicas of at least that caliber there .(in Medellin) .. without having to pay airfare, etc for traveling pros.

That being said, I'm sure you had fun, those 2 chicas are pretty sexy, thanks for sharing the fotos ... well done amigo!

Well, I can understand the problems of a duo for more than a night but if I had those two I would have a hard time deciding which to take. Thanks for the photos of two of the loveliest women I have seen in the Colombia forum.

My tastes run to slender women and small breasts so many of the women profiled don't hit my hot button. but these two are fantastic. Thanks for the photos. If you have any more please post them.

There is only one other apartment on my floor, and I haven't met the owner in the 3 years I have been here. The oil business does not sound familiar. There have been a couple of Steves around visiting, but no residents with that name.

There was a Jimmy on the next floor in the shipping business. He sold his apartment after his house was remodeled.

Yes, that was my apartment. Thanks for the rental.

I know a Steve who lives in the next building(Marinare). I never asked him what he does for a living. He owns an apartment with another friend of mine. They spend maybe 15 to 20 weeks poer year here, not always together.

I have visited CTG in March 06 and stayed in Bocagrande and had a pleasant time. One thing I can say is the absent of worry of crime like I felt when I was in Cali. I did not like the beaches in Bocagrande since it was not clean and always bothered by locals trying to rent you things. I also went to the industrial area or near it one night with a help of cab drive to look for strip clubs, and came back with no problems. The old city was also a nice place to hang out.

This visit to CTG was only for fun and I had no plans for future real estate purchase.

Now and for the past few month I have been searching and reading as much as I can about CTG, mainly about properties. I hear that El Conquistador is not the best place to buy as the buildings are old and it's known as the center for prostitutions. Not that I mind this, but w/prostitution there is always the problem of drugs. I also heard another place worst then El Conquistador is Tocaagua and that it has land slide problem and falling into sea.

Does anyone who lives or have lived in CTG can point out their opinions about these two neighborhoods and any other that i may have not read about so far, and point out the good area or neighborhoods in CTG to buy investment property?

Thank you,

T.man.

Hello everyone,

I am a long monger of the DR and I love the pics I see of Colombianas. I am planning a trip in the spring. I speak decent Spanish and in my late 20's. My questions are, Should I stay at the Medillin Mansion or go for an apartment? Secondly I heard ALOT of talk about gringos overpaying chicas. Can anyone give me some good ranges as far as prices for ST and TLN? And for different types of chicas from streetrats to massage parlors strip clubs.

Thanks!

If you have USD instead of an ATM card like I stupidly did and need to exchange money, here's an address in Bocagrande that is open 24hrs a day.

El Coche

Ofrece sus Servicios las 24 horas,
Empeno, Cambio de Cheques, Dolar y otros.

Bocagrande, Cra. 3 No. 5 - 66 Local 2 - Tel.:6551558
Cartagena de Indias, Colombia

The gate is pulled down at night but there will be a guy sitting behind it. You slip the money through the gate and he'll come back with the money. Some trust involved here obviously. During the day, he's sitting behind a glass window and it's like any other cambio. No ID, no finger print required.

I totally agree with Tom about Juan. He has treated me fair as well and the man's word is good as gold. I stayed in Cartagena during the Miss Colombia pageant in 2003 and everything in Cartagena was full. Juan found me a very nice room at the Hotel Barlovento in Boca Grande and paid one night's deposit for me. If I hadn't have shown up he would have lost 180,000 pesos. He is as straight up as you will find anywhere. Don't worry Belmont the Cartagena Hotel Del Rey will soon be open and you will have plenty of good honest people there you can deal with.

yes sadly to say i agree with beavis, but hey guess what the six-pack crowd gets to look forward to.

1. $ 100 short-time
2. plenty of drunking gringos wearing fake rolexs and ostrich skin boots
3. these same pasty gringos washed up on shore like a pack of walrus
after partying all night, in speedos burning their pink skin, meanwhile
tony the tout will become a millionaire, selling beers for 12000 cop
suntan lotion 40000 cop, umbrellas 50000cop per hour, and the gringos
will pay.
4. guys trolling outside the new hotel del rey selling fake cohibas, montecristos

5. lots of loud yelling in terrible spanish
6. john with that ever lasting scowl on his face, listening to a complaint
about alex the tout ( not the taxi driver), ripping off the gringos
7. miami hurricane football jerseys- maybe the jersey wearing fat gringos will have a big brawl on
the beach, like their football team.

again this is satire, but it would really suck if john opens a del rey type of hotel and bar. it would finish cartagena........

The 3 properties that John owns in Laguito stand empty with no sign of demolition. One rumor is that he is pulling out. Regardless, no one can ruin CTG. It is rapidly changing-with or without John. But ruin is in the eye of the beholder.

I got stuck in the biggest rain storm CTG has seen in a long while last night. I was at Cafe del Mar with my novia and 2 buddies. My novia was scouting prepagos for one buddy and asked a waitress if she was interested. She replied that she was-for 300K. We never bothered to find out if that was ST or all night.

All of Boca Grande was closed by the floods so we went to Isis, the former Egipto in Centro around 11:30 pm. The girls waded in around midnight. There were a lot of hotties. The first one wanted 250K for 2 hours plus a salida of 50K. We passed.

The moral of the story is that there are girls asking for ridiculuous money in some places. However, that does not signal the demise of CTG. I still regularly find very hot stuff with very good service on the streets of Laguito for 60K for ST. Another friend who lives here has no problem paying 40K. He is a little less particular.

I'm off to MDE next week to avoid the crowds in CTG and to buy an apt. there. To me, CTG is not tolerable during the 3 big high seasons. I may miss the Miss Colombia contest next year as well. And MDE is much cheaper than CTG. Can you say 20K SGs?

What to do. Is LDV really worth it?I absolutely loved La Dolce Vita!

Your Cartagena experience will not be complete if you don't give it a try. Go there with an open mind.

There is such a variety of hotties in the place that I defy anyone to walk out claiming that they could find not find anyone appealing in there.

Yes, there are seasoned pros. I like that I can spend as much time as I want talking to them and screening them so that I can make an educated guess on how they will perform back in my room. I sent away the ones who flashed some attitude, and was pleased with each one who did pass the screen test.

I also found an incredibly sweet, innocent, and naive young chica there. She is perhaps the most beautiful girl I have ever been with, and she had a way of touching me that penetrated the depths of my soul.

Clearly, I am not the only one who was able to find someone at LDV besides the "seasoned pros." Please allow me to quote, of all people, YOU:
I was with a chica from LDV (the only apparently non-pro). Girls even tried to approach me, while she went to the restroom. Many grizzled veterans here grumble that LDV is too much like the Del Rey in Costa Rica. Actually, my only complaint is that it should become more like the Del Rey, open all night and day, with more chicas to choose from.

Granted, both the Del Rey and LDV represent the ultimate in meat markets. But it is very easy to find a prime rib or filet mignon to savor in either of these places.

The mating dance here is half the fun...

I just love the charm and romance of LDV and the Del Rey!

T.man.I had an apartment in CTG for two years, but I was out in the barrio where most gringos won't even drive thru. Life out there is another world entirely. The entire Boca Grande area is safe, but you would have to be crazy to buy an apartment in 'el conquistador'.

Do yourself a favor. Go there and talk to some of the locals like Tom33. Tom is an honest guy, and a long time friend of mine, and If you aren't a jerk chances are you will be taking under his or someone he can recommend's wing and shown the real values. Other than that, you may just get soaked, and soaked good.

IMO, Buying for investment in a third world country is probably not smart. There are too many other ways to invest your money that are safer. But, if you want somewhere to live that you will rent out while you aren't there, you shouldn't be looking at ANY area of CTG except Boca Grande.

Juan has a number of apartments in Laguito. I have no idea what is available but you can look at his web site to see what you like. The link is here:

http://www.zepelion.com/apartamentos/english.htm

A word of caution would be to stay away from the building called El Conquistador. It is a real cockroach infested dump. Some of the apartments inside have been remodeled nicely but the building has over 500 small apartments that are normally rented by transient prostitutes and low life tourists. I would not feel safe in there not only from the possibility of crime but I would also be worried about the cockroaches carrying me a way while I sleep.

Laguito is the place to be. There are a couple apartments in Bocogrande as well but they are farther away. LDV and all the other hangouts like Loco Gringo are in Laguito.

Most of the buildings are girl friendly. Just ask before you rent.

That is a shame. I stayed at El Conquistador on my first trip to Cartagena. I had a suite with 2 rooms and a kitchenette. I was able to bring up chicas. I liked my stay there. The price was good too. I think it averaged 60,000 COP per night. This was 6 years ago. I haven't been back because I found better 'opportunities' in Cali and Brazil. But I did enjoy my trip there.

If I return, where should I stay? A short term apartment is the way to go in Cartagena.

George90
01-05-07, 00:58
Jeff 997-, is correct about Conquistador. It reminds me of a communist party apartment complex that you would have seen in the old USSR or East germany. If you ever walked back from Bocagrande by the lagoon side ( behind the conqustador), you will really see the condtion of the building. The place would not be the place to be if an earthquake hits CTG, you can see the building leaning to one side also. It is a dump.

I remember that there were tennis courts and a basketball court in back of the Conquistador. Are those gone now?

MJG Dogs
01-05-07, 08:31
The tennis courts a the conquisatador have large cracks running throught them
and if I remember one may have a metal net. Basketball court was also thrashed, as was the communist style family swimming pool and the weight room, complete with a few 1975 machines.

However Bodytech gym in Bocagrande is a very nice gym with most modern equipment.

As far as tennis and hoops, not sure where one can play, maybe some other posters know? Maybe Tom33?

There is a new place with tennis courts etc., looks VERY nice from the outside, its located on the main road left of Manga if you are heading along the road to the large sea food market in La Popa, the barrio is called Pie Del Cerro, it is on the right hand side of the road, just after the first bridge that connects Pie Del Cerro and Manga.

70 what? US dollars? Thousand pesos? You are talking to an international crowd here.

What time of year is the rental for?

Antares porteria is girl friendly last time I stayed there, no problem. It's about a 20 second walk to LDV.

There are good and less good places to stay in Antares. My guess is that the room is basic and he is adding on a huge margin for himself above the true rate. But it's hard to know without seeing the photos.

70 a night for a basic room in Antares is yet more evidence of increased gringo pricing. Antares is admittedly in a great location, with LDV and La Perla casino mere steps away. There's also a nice basic tienda right outside your door, and the guys who work the desk may be the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
But the building is quite dated. The only apartment I know of there that might be worth 70 is the 3 bedroom on the first floor, but that is a Juan rental. For comparison, you can get a 2 bedroom in the brand new Mirador building for 70 a night.

Absolutely correct. I once stayed in that ground floor, beachside place in Antares, and it was cool. The front patio literally joined onto Laguito beach. I think I paid about US$45p/n. I don't think that place is available for rental any more.

The one place in Antares on Juan's website does look quite dated. There is a certain amount of value in renting from Juan, since he speaks English and can help you out with details during your stay. However, I am budget minded and don't like paying inflated prices, so I would be getting other quotes elsewhere, or asking for a better price.

All the Laguito apartments are a max 5 minute walk from LDV, so there is no reason to choose Antares just for being close to the club.

Raw13

I agree that having an english speaking contact is a good point. Im value minded as well. Over paying for an apartment is just as bad as over paying for a chica. It will just make the prices rise. I might go without a reservation and check out a few places once I arrive.

There are plenty of girls in Ctg, 10,000s but for the vast majority you will need some Spanish as they are not full time hookers but girls will happily sleep with a foreigner for some money.

It sounds like you haven’t been to Cartagena before, I have placed an Ariel shot on my website of the Laguito area (and other useful photos), and I plan on enlarging the photo to take up the whole page, then labelling some of the buildings, but haven’t got onto that yet.

The photo below is of the Laguito, which you can see is not that large, so it doesn’t really matter what building you are in as long as its girl friendly and at what price you want to pay for it.

http://www.colombiarental.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=26

The LDV is located in the flat roofed white building at the top left.

The main hooker beach is situated between the two breakwaters again on the top left. The beach is quite long and you will find hookers in other parts of the beach, but the main concentration is located here. The shot below shows you the beach going off in the distance from the Old City, Laguito is situated in the top right hand corner.

http://www.colombiarental.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=28

You will find plenty of hookers walking around the streets of Laguito, also some in Av. San Martin in Bocogrande, mostly at night in the latter though, although all the time in Laguito.

In Centro you will find hookers in the Plaza De Los Coches which is in the picture below between the clock tower and the buildings beyond, they are there again mostly at night, Tu Candela, a hooker come ordinary night club is also in this Plaza, which is the yellow building left of the pink one:

http://www.colombiarental.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=27

There are hookers everywhere in Cartagena, but the above there are more concentrations

I have read that the pussy is everywhere in Cartagena. LDV, calle chica, the beach, Mr babilla. I would like the best apartment for my 40 to 70 pernight budget. Any suggestions. Juan sent me some pics of a basic place in the antares building for 70. I read that that building is very old. I really dont care as long as it is clean and safe.

Here is my favourite photo taken from the top of Banco Poplar:

Its showing where the construction of the new buildings that areplanned, but I think it shows the layout of Ctg from the opposite end quite well:

Maybe of use to some members, Cartagena Centro map now is available as printable PDF:

I made a last minute decision to return to Cartagena (been there 2X before) and just sent my deposit to cartagenaapartments.net for a one bedroom apt. at El Conquistador. After reading that it's a crap place, I'm wondering also if it's girl friendly. Does anyone know if it is? And if so, any words of advice for me.

I'd appreciate it.

My new managers only have a small client base at present, so only have a few forward bookings beyond a few weeks, most bookings are picked up nearer the last minute.

So you could give them a try, I have posted the information here before, but here it is again:

Getting your deposit back will depend on the person you gave it to, I know the website, but not the people who run cartagenaapartments.net, good luck on that front.

As to El Conquistador there are some nice apts in that building, but as a whole the building sucks.

I don't know if it is girl friendly or not, seeing as lot of putas live there, I find it difficult to believe that it is not now girlfriendly a some posts state, but I don't have up to date information on the subject, maybe they are trying to clean the building up.

HunterThe site www.colombiarental.net was one of my first choices but I tried calling Karina and Michael twice at the phone numbers listed on the site but neither number is good. The person who answered the number for Karina says there is no such person there and the number for Michael just rings and then hangs you up.

HunterSadly, El Conquistador is definitely not chica friendly. I asked them directly just recently and they said no chicas allowed. Unless it's the same chica and she's registered before arrival (name, passport number, etc). Very strict.

Avoid, if possible.

About April of last year some big changes came down. Since then it has not been girl-friendly. A friend of mine moved out because he couldn't have guests. Another friend was evicted because of his guests(I have only the best people as friends).

For last minute stuff, you would be okay now to just cruise the buildings and hotels and ask about rooms. High season is over.

I'm in Cartagena now, looked at a couple place my cab driver recommened. My spanish is poor but I thnk the guy is trying to make a deal for a commission at the front desk right in front of me. I looked at a few places, all dumps, and ended up at the conquistidor for 50 a night for 2 nights. William said there would be no problem bringing girls back as long as they were dressed ok. Ill find out tonight. I called micheal at columbia rental.net and the number is dissconnected. Any suggestions on a chica friendly place in the Laguito area would be appreciated. Hunter, let me know what you have available.

El Conquisdidor is definately not chica friendly. Security stopped me and my chica, they were not tactful at all. I had wrote down William cell number on my reciept. I had to get kind of shity with the security gaurd and told him to call William pronto. He looked at the cell phone number on my receipt, changed his attitude real quick and let us in. By the look of this place and many other buildings, someone has been stealing from the maintenance budget for a long long time.

I would have replied earlier, but I didn’t want to call Michael or Karina at 6.30am and have only just returned to the computer, I just checked both phone numbers and they work fine.

Michael is regularly in Loco Gringo, he also lives in Laguito in the Edificio Marinare with his girlfriend, you can as the doorman at the building for his apartment number, if you still haven’t got hold of him yet and are still looking for an apartment.

I met Micheal today while looking for an apartment. We made a deal after he showed me one of the units. Much improvement over the Conquistador. I had 2 different cab drivers call his number and they both said it was a bad number. I now realize the cabbies were taking me to places that would pay them a commission,I tipped one cabbie pretty good and he has came to my room twice today to see if he could take me somewhere. Lesson learned, dont over tip the cabbie. Thanks for your reply Hunter.

El Conquisdidor is definately not chica friendly. That is funny!! A number of the girls working at LDV rent apartments there!

I was there last month and there was an apartment full of Paisas on the 3rd or 4th floor

I know they were all working girls because they were all over at my apartment many times. The were friends with my fiance who used to work at LDV

Was that $150US or 150.000COP?

I hope it was pesos! . LDV is VERY expensive!

Try La Tripletera in Centro. There is a nice Paisa working there named Andrea. For 100. 000COP for all night. Just be sure not to go there to early

Also, there is a number of hot girls working the street in the square near Torre de Reloj (near Tu Candela). Some are HOT, some are not too bad, range in price from 40. 000-100. 000. Best time is between 10:00pm & 4: 00am. I usually go and have a couple beers, sitting on one of the benches. It is easy to tell who is working!

150 usd all night, 6 hours, with a smokin hottie. I will admit I was anxious as this was my first trip to Columbia, traveling solo with limited spanish. This chica cruised in and sat next to me at the bar.I was stunned by her beauty. We started talking and she was very patient as I tried to express myself in espanol. I never mentioned anything about money or p4p as I wanted to see how this would play out. I was enjoying myself as time went on and became a little more relaxed with the scene. I like to watch the chicas dance and work the area. We danced a couple of times, she kissed me softly on my neck. After a couple of hours she told me she was a student and traveled to Cartagena to make extra money for class. I ask her what kind of work she did. Acting nieve has worked well for me in the past but I could tell by he devilish smile she wasnt buying the act. I made it easy for her and told he I wanted an all night espanol lesson in espanol romantico. she said 300 us toda la nocha, I was a little shocked and just sat there. After a minute I put my hand on her leg and said"es de oro", the look on her face was priceless. she laughed and said somthing in espanol and shook her fist at me, the bartender died laughing. I got up and went to the bano. When I came back I ignored her. She said 150 or 2 hours, I said 150 for all night, she agreed and we left. Had some great sex, hit again in the morning before she left. By the post that I read about the price's and what not, I know I probably got played like a cheap guitar but I didnt care and would have paid 300 if I had too.

I made a trip to Ctg in late Jan, mostly for business. It was my first trip and I was with with a group. I also am new to all this and in my mid 50's, less hair and more gordo that I care to admit. Anyway, I was at the super mercado in the old city one afternoon and approached three young sales girls with a question about cheese. They were in high spirits and laughing and in my limited spanish we joked around. The more agressive of the bunch then wanted to know why I wasnt asking for their phone #'s. She pointed to the leche in the cooler and asked me if I had enough. Caught off guard, I maintained they were muy bonita and it soon became apparent that they were fighting over me. A middle aged, paunchy white guy. I told them they were way too young for me and asked (as a joke and to get me off the hook) about their mothers. One of them whipped out her cell and called her mother who runs a near by shop. I met her about 30 minutes later and she turned out to be a wonderful, early 40's woman who spoke some english--I spent 4 days with her.

We were traveling from Ctg to Santa Marta on a small bus and were stopped by the army for a search. I wish they would give the machine guns to the grey haired guys, but no problems. Anyway---as I stood in the shade waiting for the search to end, I looked across the road into the horrible slums that are everywhere. A beautiful young woman, dressed in jeans, tight top etc and spike heals came out of one hovel, hip swiveled 50 feet into the dirt path, entered another shack and came out with another girl who couldve been her twin. They then climbed the bank to the road and began hitchiking back into Ctg. They were picked up in about 2 minutes. The army guys were watching this, too and seemed amused.

Can't remember, too many aguilas by then LOL.The LDV (my heavan) has slowly got going later and later each year. I put it down to the fact that each year as I get older, the girls stay the same age. Young, and so they younger the girls. The later they like to go out, and as I get older the earlier I like to get laid.

I usually show up at 10pm and wait and watch as it gets busier and busier, and yes, by midnight its hopping.

I just finished my month in Lima, Peru and Costa Rica, and now I want to relax for my month in Cartagena. So please guys, do not pay more than 80,000 pesos. Yes, 80K. I usually get the LDV for 60K but while I am there. Please help me keep the prices low. Do not break. Stay strong. I guarantee it. Only the top 5 chicks wont break , so forget them. I say viva la 80K screwing.

PS: Anyone wishing a class on how to bargain a ***** down to 60K please let me know. I will conduct classes on the beach for a small fee.

70 pesos is around 10 cents a night... thats pretty cheap even for el centro! O.K. assuming you mean 70 thousand(mil) it's still inexpensive, reason being it is in centro. Most guys stay in Laguito or Bocagrande in apartments. They range from 50 to 100 bucks a night. You get what you pay for down there.Luxuries we take for granted ie:hot water a/c you better ask about

Sorry but my bullshit detector smells something fishy here. CERTAINLY you do not claim to get LT for 60 K from LDV, do you? I assume you mean a 30 minute quicky.

Add to that the fact that you claim to be knowledgeable about mongering in Lima, yet still go to Costa Rica?? Does NOT add up IMHO.

The last post of the list (post #142) does not mention Electra. Does anyone have the street address for this disco?

Also, how about information on chica-friendly hotels and apartments in Centro, San Diego or El Cabrero?

Disco Electra is not on the List either. Sorry. If you find it, I'll add it. And anything else we might need to know.

I must appologize and clarify. Last year my month here brought me 60k girls all but once from the ldv. But as time goes on, so does the amount of crazy guys here paying up to 200, 000 pesos. One girl that is a regular, not for me cause she is 34 and a bit too much fat. Always went for 40, 000 pesos. Truth. But a few days ago she showed me a $100. 00 usa bill from an old canadian. Now she is ruined. But I am now at 80, 000 without too much of a struggle. This week aton of people went back to italy and the price will once again settle down. In order to get cheap. You must be cheap. If you hold out. They will crumble. Simple as that. Now obviously not the hottest of the hots. Cause they score regardless. But a little lesser. You can bargain. I had a very hottie the other day. She met me at the beach and hung from noon till 7pm. She got 100, 000 from me cause I was feeling generious for the amount of time she spent. And I didn't even ask how much I owed untill it was over. Why. Cause even if she said some ridiculous number like 200, 000 I would have laughed at her and told her to take what I am giving her and be happy. You must not be intimadated by them. If you are. Then pay.

Next. Beach-girls info if anyone wants to know. Playa hollywood, which is the lagito main beach area, infront of the hotel dan, is a busy spot and I will give out a great contact. I reccomend walking there even if you are in bocagrande cause its all close. For those who don't know. There are a million beach hustlers trying to get you to sit at their cabanas, chairs etc. I have been here 4 years and always trust fillippo. He can hook you up with everything. And he is very fair. He will set you up. With no fee. Nothing. And then you are on your own. The quality is great. To find him just ask they guys on the beach infront of hotel dan. He runs a big spot there. And he can connect you with any little thing required. I know the other guys. And next to him is a full thief named tony juan. He will rip you a new a-hole and girls are brutelly ugly. Stay away from this creep. So good luck. Don't be shy. Be tough and keep the cost of the oldest proffession down where it belongs.

Erudite: You are my DREAM wingman! I often find these mother daughter combos but I always want the daughter. Unfortunately, most the guys I travel with also want las jovencitas. I need to travel with a guy like you that PREFERS las mamacitas LOL!

Pic taken in Restaurant La Tioja in the old city; great ambiance, grilled meats and fish and especially the limonada natural is to die for. Plaza Santo Domingo is not the only place for a good meal up thataway.

Call me paranoid, but I'd rather stay somewhere else. I've walked through that area during daytime and felt safe, but suspect from some of the characters hanging around that the neighborhood might be a little dangerous at night.

Loumann,
Good info. Appreciate anyone who isn't contributing to a rise in prices.
Two things though. First, fillipo does get a fee for hooking you up with the girls, just like tony and all the other guys on the beach. The girl you hook up with will pay him out of the money you give her. If they don't, they don't get called again when rich gringos are on the beach, so they pay. It's like 10,000 pesos on a 60,000 peso trick mas o menos. If you pay tony or fillipo a fee for getting the girl they will be getting paid twice. Nice work if you can get it.
Second, tony actually can be a good resource on the beach. All you have to do is use the same negotiating skills you describe with the chicas. I chuckle at how many people claim he rips them off. Just tell him (don't ask) how much you pay per beer, per chair, for the cabana. Then keep track. That simple. I don't utilize him for chicas anymore, but I have seen him get some of the hottest pieces of ass in cartagena for 60,000 pesos. Same method, tell him what you want, if an ugly girl shows up, no gracias, send her away.
In fact if I'm not mistaken, the girl in surfers post below is a beach chica tony can arrange for you, goes by the name of alejandra, might be more than 60,000 now though.
apologies surfer if I'm wrong...

Guys Cartagena is done, and has been for about 3 years. Why? You say?

1. Use to be safe. (3 tourists killed in the last month) Itallions and French

2. Use to be cheap, now its 100 USD per night (cheaper if your spanish is good, or the girl is marginal to ugly)

3. GFE was plentiful, now they will (often but not always) quote you an hourly rate.

4. Use to be a sleepy venue frequented by a few Itallions and Israelis. Now it is is overrun with LOUD North Americans with their "WHO FARTED" t-shirts, eagerly paying 250 p.

Yes, there will still be reports on this "Board" and others touting how AWSOME Cartagena is. IMHO it is analagous to giving a starving man a Bigmac. He will tell you it was the best meal he has ever had. These reports IMHO are authored by people with little comparative experience.

IMHO, and having "Hobbied" in scores of countries, your money would be better spent in Angeles city (Philippines) or Thailand. BKK or Pattaya.

Why? . Its cheaper and safer and less mercinary in nature. Only drawback is the long flight from North America and Europe. This problem is easily solved by taking 1 Xanax.

If you must go to Colombia, save your money and go to Medellin or Armenia. Cuter girls, cheaper, GFE, but a bit dodgy.

Just my Opinion. From a rather large comparatve sampling. And a FORMER Cartagena Hobbiest.

I'd still recommend using her as an A-1 resource for apartment rentals. My two main recommendations, based on 100% past positive experiences, are Juan Ventura and Mery Salence. I would always start with those two agents then work down from there.

I e-mailed Juan V. a week before my trip (yeah, I procrastinated), but he was unable to fill my rental request. He did, as always, promptly respond and offer to keep looking, even though he is currently in Spain. I declined the attempt, but thanked him for the offer.

I e-mailed Mery Salence right after this. Within a few hours, she had an apartment for me. Not just any apartment, but a brand new apartment (less than 3 months) in the newest building in Laguito, Mirador del Laguito. It was a one bedroom studio, well-furnished, hot water, a/c, prepaid wireless access, large bed, spacious enough bathroom with shower space for 2-3 people. The owner even provided a 1 page info sheet to get people acclimated. The building has a nice pool area and small gym on the 3rd floor, as well as washers and dryers on the 2nd floor, and plenty of parking. Plenty of families appear to live there.

Building security was conservative, but tolerant with chicas. One chica that I got off the beach had to put a real shirt on, instead of her bikini top prior to entering past security. Also, each chica had to make a copy of her cedula and leave the copy at the desk prior to entering. Real novias weren't put through this, and treated with discretion and respect.

Cost me $60/nite plus $6/day for complete maid service incl. your personal laundry. I also met the owner of this apartment, and he was a very cool guy, very helpful, and insistently interested in improving whatever needed to be improved. I couldn't come up with anything.

To those who were put off of Mery by recent actions on this board, Mery is back in business, and appears better than before. She has several apartments in this new building, plus a few in the new complex ("Torres del Laguito" maybe, I forget exactly) currently being developed directly in front of Riquisimos.

She told me her version of things (which of course differed from what was previously stated), offered to provide confirmation through various people mentioned, none of which I would take her up on.

With my experience renting from her in the past, to this recent experience, as well as that of everyone that I've ever recommended her way, I continue to trust her 100% with renting an apartment. It's fucked-up that I have to stump for someone on this board, but I feel like she got a raw deal.

CanuckI won't argue with your main premise, if you think something is over, it's over.

There was one Italian tourist killed in a mugging attempt gone bad. Her husband may not live, but I had not heard that he passed. The 16-year-old kid who did this was arrested shortly after the crime.

The Frenchman was not a tourist, and he was hit - as in assassinated.

The tourist zone is very safe. But shit can still happen.

CTG is the most expensive city in Colombia. It has been that way the entire 4 years I have lived here.

As far as sex tourism, Colombia doesn't even rank with SEA or Brazil. CTG markets primarily to Colombian families.

The loud North Americans don't compare to the much louder Colombians. All the Land Rovers here do not belong to North American tourists.

CTG is awesome, but it's not a great sex destination. It never was.

Mule69

Great info as usual Tom33. This guy lives right in the heart of the tourist zone so he should know the deal. Laguito will have the brunt of most American tourist (ie: mongers) and it is a drop in the bucket compared to Colombian tourists on vacation. I saw more Italians there than gringos and hordes of Colombian families with kids at the beach. We are not alone in raising the p4p in Cartagena. Ctg is not cheap, check the rates at the Hilton and see all the colombians that are staying there, they got money!

TomTom. Well its good to hear that they caught the little cutthroat that shot the tourist. Considering the potental impact on the local tourist economy I am guessing the Colombian justice system will not be to merciful (rightfully so)

RE: the demise of Cartagena. Well I think it is part of human nature to pine nostaligic on how great things use to be. And Mule 69 you are correct in stating that there are far more Itallions than americansas tourists in CTG. But compared to say 1999-2001 there are FAR more americans now in Cartagena.

I use to go on a 2 week junket to CTG and never meet another american, now they are buying apartments and opnening business there. It seems that 1/4 of the guys in LDV are from the States as well. IMHO.

If you simply look at empiracle evidence I. E. (price of LDV chica TLN) as a barometer of the "state of the "scene" in CTG.

LDV in the old Building (in centro) chicas were asking 40, 000 TLN. But settling for 20, 000 to 30, 000. Now (to reiterate) they Often quote you and hourly rate of 250, 000 p! But will settle for less depending on several variables I. E. Your looks, and game, language skills etc etc.

Thats an increase of almost 1000% in almost 5-6 years! Thats FRICKIN ridiculous! . Considering the shallow pool of talent available, and mercinary nature of many of the woman!

Don't get me wrong I still love Cartagena. It just is a horrible place to monger (comparitivly speaking)

So essentially we are in agreement TOMTOM. CTG is a cool town for a lot of reasons. However as a good venue for chasing woman, it ranks VERY low on the overall list IMHO.

There are some casas in Cartagena. I find them a waste of time, cause they charge ridiculous prices. When they see you're a gringo, you can see them pause and just make up a price on the spot.

They are only open late afternoon and nights. Talent is hit and miss. I have never had very good luck with them.

Mr. Babilla's wasn't going to let me in with short pants on a Sat. night until I mentioned that the 3 friends I was meeting there would be
disappointed. Four people drinking? You are in.

Do not wear shorts to any government office. You may feel better with long pants in Centro on Fri. or Sat. night. LDV doesn't care.

The Cartagena Casas used to be a lot of fun. You could drink, look at the girls and fool around. Some times there was an Oscar to be had. I always enjoyed the big barn type place in Bosci. I think it was Casa Marino. Gringos were unique and there was some extra millage to be had just because we were different.

It has all changed and not for the better. It is all very serious now.

I remember living at the Almirante Hotel on San Martine and 6th. There were girls from all over the country hanging out along the beach between the Hotel and La Escolera Club. Pst! Pst! They would call you from the dark. Mostly they just wanted an adventure, however 30 or 40, 000 pesos was a nice gift. Often you had to make them leave after a few days. They would become attached.

Everything has changed. Cartagena is not a mongering destination, not by any standard. I went to the Philippines for 2 months over Christmas. Now that is a mongering place. There are like 1000 girls available for every one here. Lots of girls, but a real shit hole to live in.

So in conclusion, if you have the money and want to live a more up scale lifestyle. Cartagena and Colombia is a good choice.

If you don’t mind diesel fumes and open sewers and want to fuck lots of girls and have some of them fall in love you, head out for SE Asia. Or better yet, spend a little time in each place each year. Then you will be a well rounded person.

And by the way, always dress your best. Wear shirts with collars. Leave the baseball cap at home and if you have it on backwards, please walk on the other side of the street from me

I totally disagree about baseball hats, shirts with collars, and shaving etc. I read it on the Medellin or Cali thread also and thought it was humorous. But I figure now I will post. There are lots of Colombians that wear baseball caps, shirts without collars, and even sandals... and if I want to grow a nice beard why does anyone here care. I don't think shorts, baseball caps, and shirts without collars are disrespectful in any way as long as you are dressed nice and clean cut. I'd even go far as to say nice shorts, an ironed polo, and a nice pair of sandals is much nicer dressed than lets say a cheap pair of jeans from Kmart, tennis or cheap dress shoes, and a cheap shirt. Just my opinion, but fashion is fashion anywhere in the world. Sure I don't wearshorts when travelling by bus. But in Barranquilla, Medellin or even Cali I have no problem wearing a nice pair of shorts and polo to any of the centro commerciales. Why? Because Colombians wear them as well. Typically I do wear jeans, but I dont have a problem with nice shorts, nor baseball caps as many Colombians where baseball caps. Now shorts or sandals to a disco... that's a different story... Im talking daytime.

Yes Hoofhunter and Vagabundo you are correct, and its sad really the current state of "mongerdom" (is that a word? ) in CTG. It use to be that saying you were from the USA held some clought or mystique. Now the woman just look at you like another douchbag tourist.

IMHO the downword spiral really began around 2002, but was really prounounced in 2004-2005. IMHO it is partially due to the surge of North American money.

Although true, the Italions make up the majority of the "extranjeros" in CTG they are notoriously cheap, and the Israelis seem to be more interested in drugs, and generally younger too. (as well as broke)

IMHO the reason for this influx is a sister board to this one. Whos site administrator that has been promoting CTG and his apartment (for rent) in ENDLESS posts. "Hueso" is his nickname by the Laguito locals BTW. Slang for Bone or (cheap)

RE: Escolera. This actually use to be THE place to go for about 6 months, between the times that both LDVs were closed down, now theres a 30 story condo in its place.

No big deal though, there are plenty of places to go and far better as well. Anyone who has takin a stroll down "walking street" in Pattaya or spent an evening at the Blue Nile or RAINBOW4 or a sojourn to Centaurus would agree.

The locals with the dosh and babes do NOT wear shorts except at the beach or gym. Maybe in in tourist parts of CTG, but in Cali? It is not rude or disrespectful to dress down, but IMHO it absolutely reduces your appeal to chicas. If you are just there to do hookers then dress as you like, but if non pros are on the menu at all dressing down is a serious faux pas. I do not dress "up", like many guys do, but shorts, Tshirts and baseball hats are definitely considered declasse' by most Colombianos.

I guess it depends on the person or the chica because Ive never been frowned on for wearing shorts in the daytime. As for baseball caps, I would not say it's only done by low class, but we all are welcome to our own opinion. The shaving however does kind of get on my girlfriend and every Colombiana I have been with because when kissing it irritates their skin. I like to shave about once every 5-7 days... somtimes longer. I dont shave in the US either. I just prefer hair on my face. Thier complaints are more about kissing though not the way I look. I dress nice and I do not think shorts and baseball caps are dressing down. Typically I wear nice shorts and a polo and at night jeans and a polo... and I'm not talking button down. Hell, I dont think Ive worn a button down shirt in 10 years.. .other than weddings or a formal dinner party. That's just me. Dress nice (whether it's shorts or jeans), learn spanish, treat the women with the ultimate respect (pro or non-pro)... sheesh even go overboard (I typically buy any first date a rose) and have a great personality and you can have all the non-pros you want. I saw a list of dos and donts posted by someone and I disagreed with over half the items. A baseball cap, shorts, tennis... stuff like that is not going to strike you out with any nonpro if you got game, are somewhat halfway attractive, and you know how to make them melt for you.

If you are just there to do hookers then dress as you like, but if non pros are on the menu at all dressing down is a serious faux pas. I do not dress "up", like many guys do, but shorts, Tshirts and baseball hats are definitely considered declasse' by most Colombianos.

Shorts in Ctg are worn by Colombian tourists and foreigners, but not normally the locals, for wandering around.

In Medellin, shorts are not worn by the locals apart from on Sundays and holidays where you will see more people wearing them as they are out walking, you may see the odd Colombian outside those days who is wearing them un-related to physical activity, but it is just the odd person.

I completely agree with Hunter. Shorts and sandals give you that " On Vacation " look, but also can give you that " I am bum " look.

Although this concept is more forgiving and sometimes expected on an American. A Typical American, wears colorful shirt, shorts and sandals, and why not a cap.

However if you really want to impress a non pro, bring down your good clothes. By this I don`t mean a suit and a tie, unless in BAQ you intend to go to a wedding, BOG is a whole different story, people wear suit and a tie at most times anyway........

There are places in BAQ where you are not allowed in wearing shorts, like companies, El Teatro Municipal Amira de la Rosa, etc. A bank will let you in , but you will stand out like a sore thumb.

I have had really " Sharp dresser" clients and the comments I have heard from the non pros have been " I love the way he dresses"

Women here are no different from any other part of the world. They appreciate a clean, good smelling, well dress gentleman.

On the other hand, pros could not care less as long as your wallet is the right size. Peter.

I was sent this link yesterday, I thought it might interest some if they were visting Cartagena with a laptop:

http://www.caribenet.com/index.php?name=Sections&req=viewarticle&artid=43&page=1

They charge:

23,000 pesos a day
52,000 pesos a week
87,000 pesos a month

Takes about a hour to set it up apparently, they have people in the office in Laguito who speak English.

Their home page if you read Spanish:

I've posted at other forums, but when coming to Cartagena find myself bewildered by the abbreviations. For example, what does "to get LT for 60 K from LDV" mean (the 60K part I get)? Or, what does TLN refer to? Last time I was in Cartagena, some 10 years ago, there was pretty good action picking up girls just walking the main drag of Bocagrande. No more? Thanks for the clarification.

60 k...60,000 pesos
LDV...La Dolca Vita (from the hooker disco in Laguito)

TLN...Toda La Noche (I think)

Av. San Martin, is still the same as it was 10 years ago for picking up girls.

Was thinking of spending some time in CTG over May-Aug. I was there once before around Thanksgiving time. Will the May- Aug period be much slower in terms of chicas?

Hunter

No that period is fine, in fact there are more chicas in July & August than normal as it is University holidays, so there are more free lancers around then.

June 20 to July 20 is school break in Colombia. The chicas are swarming then. May to 6/15 or so is slow. And Aug. is slower.

I read every post on here about Cartagena, and the ONLY daytime action mentioned is the small beach area in front of Hotel Dan, is this true?

Are there other beach areas to check out?

Are there massage places, or casas open during the mornings or days?

Just startin' a list.

Daytime action is the beach in front of the Hotel Dan as you say, there are more working girls there, but you will find the odd ones all along the beach.

The streets of Laguito, Bocogrande and the Old City also have plenty of girls.

Gracias!Work Bocagrande, you are on vacation and need some gifts for home or some new clothes.

Show respect , the stores on the strip are full of good looking girls of all ages looking for an escape from their current lifestyle. Wages are pitifully low that is why you see all stores overstaffed, their is very little work and none well paid.

If you want to visit a Casa remember they cater to the Cruise Lines and other merchant ship traffic during the day so there are several open.

My own thoughts are that an afternoon visit is a lot more fun and less pressure . The girl or girls will have a lot more time to sit around and party in the evening the local crowd move in and it become a llivelier party , lots of noise and competition for the girls.

Finding a Casa is easy , befriend a taxi driver that speaks english and you have a reliable guide that is a bargain to boot.

Finding a taxi driver is harder than finding a casa but try the taxi stand at the Hotel Caribe which is located at the end of the strip . This is a prime location for a taxi to be allowed to wait for customers and only the most reliable and the best are allowed to work here.

Wear two hats one for the LDV type club and one when you are looking for a GFE during the day.

Remember that when you find a daytime bonus, she maybe is married or has a boyfriend and that she probably will not want to visit your hotel because of the possibility of being seen . Keep in the back of your mind a quick motel visit is another reason for the taxi driver friend , he will drop you off and come back an hour or two later and she can keep out of sight until you are in the room.

Good luck and happy and safe mongering.

Johnnydh. To answer your question, the short answer is NO. You will not find extreme high end talent in LDV. This is of course is an opinion, based on maybe 80 (or more) visits to the place over the course of 8 years. (both locations)

What you will find is lots of 4-6s though. And the ocasional odd 8. This is of course a subjective opinion. I know some guys like "GORDITAs" (see a bit fat) I however tend to like a thin well proportioned woman.

The problem in LDV with finding the odd 8 is this. There are SCORES of horned up mongers chasing the handful of hotties, and often when a guy finds the one good one, she will stay with him his whole vacation, essentially taking her out of the market for weeks at a time. Leaving you and me with the freightening left overs.

I know this from both anecdotal accounts and because I have done it myself. I know a German doctor who has been going to CTG for years and this is his standard MO as well.

This is opposed to a large market like Rio, or BKK where you have the 8s and 9s regularily outnumbering the "clients".

IMHO go to Cartagena because its a cool city, and fair beachs, and an interesting place. If you go with Mongering as your main activity you will be disappointed, That is of course unless you don't mind bedding the 5s and 6s.

2 out of 3 ain't bad but I reckon the beaches suck. The beach in Bocogrande are poor but remember they are not dirty , it is the flow of the river over thousands of years that has discoloured the sand with mud or rust and other sediments. The city cleans the beach every night with tractors and manpower. I know because of my tax bill.

If you want to experience turquoise blue water and white sand head over to Playa Blanca and you will think that you are in the islands.

Boat trips go over their daily and you can drive by heading out of the city past the terminal and refineries and you will end up in a small village with a ferry to cross the river.

Continue on a dirt road for another 10 or 12 kms and you come to Playa Blanca. Great place, great beach, superb swimming and good fresh food barbecued straight out of the ocean. Fresh shrimp, oysters, corn and a lot of other Colombian delights.

You can take your LDV girl there for the day and take her into 4 feet of turquoise blue water 30 feet off sure and fuck her silly while you watch me on the beach doing the day at the beach family outing trip.

She will love you for it and your overall cost will be a lot less because this is a treat for her rather than sleeping in her lodgings all day.

Does anyone here have any info / opinions / advice? I'll write a nice report upon my return. You can check out my report on Vikings Exotic Resort in the Dominican Republic Forum, RoD.

Also, if I can bring along 3 other guys (I already have sent a few emails to prospective fellow travelers, we can all get a 10% discount. Anyone interested? - Tripp

You must be made of money.

Mid-May is a very slow time. You could rent a very nice place on the beach, and go to La Dolce Vita every night. Pay whatever they ask. You will save over 50%.

For rentals contact: http://www.zepelion.com/apartamentos/index.htm or http://www.caribenet.com/?name=Web_Links&req=viewlink&cid=3

I have sampled one of their models, Joanna. She's is quite nice. However, I paid her about US$35.

Trippstadt was able to spend $10,900 in less than a week in the Dominican Republic. Poor David 33 was like "I´ve written and erased three comments on Trippstadt´s posts. This is so unbelievable that there is nothing I can say to express my horror". Or most everyone else's horror for that matter. Trip seems very set on spending the cash.

I did not even think you could find a way to spend this sort of money in Colombia, so I guess I can just watch and learn while this unfolds. It does boggle the mind. You could just walk into LDV and take the 3 top girls with no negotiation 300.000 COP x 3 girls x 6 nights = $2,562

I agree with you Jelly Donut, the amount of money proposed to be sent is absurd..... It would take me 4 months of mongering every day ( making assumptions), to spend $10,900 on chicas in CTG, in fact probably more like 5 months. Guys like this drive to market price way up. A friend last year rented a place for several months in Laguito. He paid a million a month, but the place was not air conditioned. There was no hot water, either. But hot water is not absolutely necessary in CTG. You will probably not find anything livable for less. If you want AC, you will probably look at at least 250K per month more. I lived in Laguito for 4 years and could not have survived without AC.

Your best bet for cheap rentals is just show up and ask the porteros at Playa Mar, Marinare, Mirador del Laguito, Torre Centauro, Antares, and Torre Marina. Cheaper yet is Cristoforo Colombo and Tocahagua. Avoid El Conquistador. Some of the other buildings are marginal. Don't just show up during high season.

That's where the building is I'm talking about. I stayed a few buildings down for 2 nights too. I've heard about the conquistador's rep already. Won't try that.

The place in Tocahagua has AC for that price. I wouldn't consider renting anything in Cartagena without AC -- it would be unbearable. Even the small AC units they put into the units get overtaken during the day by heat.

I've done the math on it a few times and figured out that if I rented it for the whole month and only used it for 2 weeks, I would still come out ahead over paying for only 2 weeks at 90,000 per day. Looks like that's the best option. I have rented it from her for a week or so at a time in the past.

If I spend enough time in Tocahagua, I might be there when it finally slides into the ocean. Ever heard about that? The ocean is eating the support away from the building according to what people say (there's supposed to be a sign inside there about it..but I've never seen it).

After reading through this a bit, I'm a bit inbetween the value of going to colombia for mongering. I'm more of a regular in the local forums on this forums USA sister forum. When visiting an amp here you can get what you need for $80+$40 usd & the time is about 60-75 mins of service. A SW will run you about $60-$80 here stateside. I'm actually colombian by nationality and am pretty young as far as mongers go still being in my early twenties & don't see myself caring to have a girl 'hanging out' with me all day. Especially considering I'll most likely have to spend most of my time there doing some dental work that I don't care to pay for here stateside. I have a buddy who regularly travels to bogota & I'll most likely spend my time there. How does Bogota compare to Cartagena in regards to available women and ease of 'hooking up'. I'm more interested in experiencing different types of women rather than alot of one or two. I refuse to pay stateside pricing for a girl in colombia, especially for the same amount of service. Some of you guys have paid 80~150 for a few hours of service 3 to 6..Would I be crazy to think that for $20 or $30 usd I could make FS with no GFE happen ? Taking into account I regularly receive discounts even on the first time from younger escorts/SW/AMP providers here stateside, I do 'look good', and speak the language fluently.

I know Bogota is an even larger tourist destination than Cartagena due to most direct flights arriving there compared to medellin & cartagena. IF anyone is in this area send me a PM so we can exchange emails. Myself & my wingman ( who is more into scoring non working girls ) will be in town in a few months 2 or 3 and I wouldn't mind having someone to hang out with and go straight into action. Or is going to Cartagena a better/easier route ?

Have fun out there!

I have heard that as well. I guess there are some cracks in the swimming pool. However, a friend of mine bought an apartment there last fall. He had been living in Laguito for over 6 months and speaks fluent Spanish. So at least I don't think that the slide is imminent.

Tocahagua is a cut below many of the other buildings, but it is livable.

Before I begin, my trip has been delayed until June. The offer to join me is still open.

Okay, okay, enough of this ridiculous abuse. This will be difficult for most of you to wrap your minds around. Many of you’ve been looking for “best deal” sex for so long that you’re missing the forest for the trees.

FIRST, my time is worth more than $500 / hour. That’s right, it is. If something saves me even one hour, it’s worth $500 bucks or so to me, especially if I’m spending that hour fucking a beautiful girl. Going through XBH saves me a few hours every day, so it’s almost a no-brainer for me. I’m not into “the hunt” component of this hobby; the searching, the schmoozing, the negotiating, looking for the best $40 fuck out there. Truth is, this entire trip will cost me around $6K to $7K, and I’ll have already made that much between the time I post this response and the time most of you have read it.

SECONDLY, I don’t speak Spanish, haven’t been to Columbia before, don’t know hardly anything about Cartagena and where to stay and where NOT to stay and how to protect myself and where the best girls are or where the best deals are, etc. etc. etc., and it’s not my goal to do so. I want to spend my time there fucking a variety of beautiful and willing girls, eating decent food, and hanging out with intelligent, like-minded guys in a SAFE, CLEAN, and COMFORTABLE environment. My suite at the XBH Penthouse will be like 1,200 square feet, clean and luxuriously appointed. I’ll be taken to / from the airport by people who know the territory. I’ll be given my choice of beautiful young women to fuck every day. All my meals will be cooked fresh for me right there by excellent local chefs. Given what I WANT, and what I CAN afford, why would I bother spending hours and hours studying the ISG boards and planning how and where I’m going to stay, to keep myself safe, to find the girls I’m interested in and get them to come back with me, to transport myself, etc. etc. etc??? So I can pat myself on the chest because I managed to find a girl I liked who fucked me a whole night for only $60 bucks? So I can come back to the ISG and post her pictures and talk about what a super-mongerer I am for managing to find such an excellent and cheap fuck? No sir, not interested in that.

Now, if I had the same sexual urges I have now, but only made $60K per year, I might very well do EXACTLY as you guys are doing. I understand and respect that. You’re trading your time and energy (rather than your money) to find and fuck the girls that you want given your budget. Seriously, I really do respect that, and in the past, I’ve done the same thing. But I’m at a time and place in my life when I don’t need to do that. This trip will cost me around $1000 / day when all is said and done. Shit, I’ve paid that much for TWO HOURS with girls (spectacular girls, I might add). And that $1,000 / day includes the girls for 24 hours per day, my (luxury) accommodations, all my food and alcohol, my transportation (other than airfare), my safety, and a lot of peace of mind, and absolutely maximizes the time I can spend fucking these beautiful young women. I’ll be watching a DVD and feel like fucking her…. Pause it and fuck her, and then finish the movie. Want a new girl, maybe this time with bigger tits? .”Hey Buddy, bring over some girls with larger breasts, if you don’t mind”. BOOM! Want to check out one of the local places where YOU guys pick up girls? “Hey Buddy, I’d like a driver to take me over to ______ for a couple of hours”. BOOM, there’s the driver.

Okay, so maybe it makes you feel better to say stuff like, “A fool and his money…”, and perhaps you WOULDN’T trade places with me (Yeah, right!), but truthfully, the money is almost inconsequential to me. This is my one week this year that I’ll be able to be in Columbia, probably, and I’m looking forward to it a lot! I want to be with 6, or 7, or 10 beautiful Columbian girls, and truth is, if I achieve that and have a great week of sex, fun, food, and comfort, I’m definitely NOT going to be kicking myself afterwards thinking that, with a little time and effort, I could have done it for half the price. Maybe I’ll learn enough from this trip to get the same benefit NEXT TIME but for less money, but for this time, I’m comfortable with my approach.

Now, THIS is the appropriate thread for my pictures and trip reports, but if it’s just too painful for you guys to read and see them, lemme know. I’ll be happy to post them elsewhere for those that are interested. Truth is, I’m doing exactly what a lot of you would do if you had my money.

There are some aspects of your argument that I don't understand.

First, if you are looking for "la crème de la crème" and thus not caring much about ISG postings and usual ISG members objectives, why bothering posting here?

Second, if you make that much money, why not hiring a stunning escort at home to get rid of your urges?

Third, if you are so sure of your rationale of your behaviors, why bothering in explaining mongers about it?

The egomaniac thumping his chest about his monetary worth, how pathetic. Trippstadt should just go to San Jose, Costa Rica, book the master suite at the Del Rey, with the rest of the Tony Lama Butch crowd. For someone who gloats about how bitchin he is and how rich he is, he certainly has a thin skin. maybe we ought to hook this guy up with " Tony the Tout" right now. Tony could retire after a couple of weeks with this tool.

Trippstadt -

I don't think we started off (for the most part) abusing you. It's your money and your time, but it would be a disservice to the general readers here not understand that - even with disadvantages you have (don't know Spanish, don't know Cartagena, don't want to waste time and so forth) that the sort of money you are talking about is absurd.

If you would like I can put together a step-by-step plan of how you can have a great time in Cartagena in June without this needless expense. No charge. Clearly, if your point is to make this as easy as possible, the added trouble of coordinating 3 strangers for a 10 percent discount and the amount of time you have spent posting here is already defeating your interests.

Other than that, if I find out you are my lawyer I am going to fire you. :)

Cartagena in general is quite a ghetto place. I guess the initial reaction of many ISG readers is "damn, people actually pay $1200 per day to stay in Cartagena!?"

Because the truth of the matter is that Trippstadt is going to be messing with the same $50 hookers that we are messing with. Just with a rebranding and a few layers of service in between, and a much more comfortable pad.

I'm not sure of the location of the beach house. Anyone know if it's somewhere near La Boquilla?

There's a guy on the Brazil forum named Ghengis Khan, who gets to Sao Paulo a couple of times a year. Every day of his trip, he eats 2 meals per day at the most exclusive restaurants, and nails magazine models and Brazilian celebrities by private arrangement. Afterwards he posts well written trip reports, detailing what he did each day. Most people appreciate the reports. A few backchat about how he's spending obscene amounts of money for a country like Brazil.

Personally I don't care so much either way. However, I wouldn't trade places with Ghengis, as he only gets to Brazil for about 3 weeks per year. A lot of guys on the forum used their wealth to retire early, or travel 6 to 9 months of the year. Those kinds of guys would not be jealous of a time-poor person who only vacations a few weeks per year.

I checked out the Xotic Beach House page and there is one glaring omission on the FAQ page:
"How will I be able to communicate with the girls?"

I actually think this is well written and I can understand his logic. Only 1 disagreement. Cartagena is relatively safe... Especially for Colombia standards. Let's just say somehow something was going to happen to an extranjero.. i.e. a kidnapping. Guess where and who they'd be scouting. Not that I want to warn you as I think the chances of someone getting kidnapped in Cartagena are about as high as well.. I won't even go there. Point is, you wanted safety. Because you are paying so much you have just put yourself in the most unsafe place that any of us have ever stayed. Why? Because you've announced where you are staying and also announced that your time is worth over $500/hr.. .thus over $4k/day. Thus over $20k/week... thus over $1,020,000/yr. Catch my drift? In Colombia you really don't want to have the same routine nor make it really known where you will be and when. You need to mix up your routine. JMO

Dear Mr. Donut,

Yes, actually, I would very much appreciate a "a step-by-step plan of how you can have a great time in Cartagena in June without this needless expense". Seriously, I would. And I'd be happy to post a full report about it upon my return.

To the others responding to my last post, you can see some of my reports in the Prague (Czech Republic) and Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic) threads. In fact, I just finished a 5 part report on Vikings Exotic Resort in the Puerto Plata thread (with a full summary and links to all of the reports and picture posts, etc., in the Dominican Republic RoD).

I wasn't looking to insult ANY of you. I guess the point is, I GET THE POINT. Most of you think it's too much money to spend. I got it. Mr. Dogs, you are wrong. I was NOT trying to impress anyone with how much money I have. Rather than ignore the opinions of those who posted in response to my trip plans, I chose to explain why I had decided to go this route. Such an explanation could only be possible, given that almost all of the responses were exclusively about how much I was overspending, if I were to place the cost issue in its proper perspective as it applied to me.

Andres writes, "First, if you are looking for "la crème de la crème" and thus not caring much about ISG postings and usual ISG members objectives, why bothering posting here?". First, I DO care about ISG postings.... that's why I read them and why I chose to respond with a full explanation (and why I'm responding here). Secondly, I like to share my experiences with others who might be interested, and that's why I write such detailed trip reports. Take a look at my posts. They're full of real information, real pictures, and tips that I've learned from experience. You won't find ANY that are nothing more than telling someone else what an idiot they are because of what they are planning or have done. My reports and responses to others' questions are precisely the essence of what the ISG is about; information sharing about this subject with like-minded people. Take a look at my first post in this thread. It was simply "hey, I'm planning on doing this... anyone want to join me?"

You also wrote, "Second, if you make that much money, why not hiring a stunning escort at home to get rid of your urges? Third, if you are so sure of your rationale of your behaviors, why bothering in explaining mongers about it?"

Well, I DO see "stunning escorts" at home. Regularly in fact, and I often pay anywhere from $200 to $400 per hour for the privilege and I never get less than 2 hours. The XBH is an INCREDIBLE deal for me, given what it normally costs me at home. And your third point makes, I am sorry to say, no sense to me. I offered my reasons to my fellow punters as frankly and honestly as I could. I am indeed "sure" of my reasons. You may or may not agree with them. I have no heartache with that. I was intending to post a full report on my trip afterwards. You can read it and look at the pictures or not; that'll be up to you. If you're so concerned about the purpose and protocols of the ISG, check out the rules regarding flaming.

Anyway (wheeew), I'm moving on. My plans are set and I'm looking forward to them. I'll post a report of what XBH is like upon my return, for those who are interested.

And Jelly (may I call you Jelly rather than Mr. Donut?), if I WERE your lawyer (which I'm not since I'm not a lawyer), then you would probably have more than enough money to afford a few days at XBH (whether you'd spend it there or not) ;-)

Oh... just read Winner's post. That actually IS a little scary, come to think of it.

I already did that. Rent an apartment. Go to LDV. There are no safety issues in the tourist zone of CTG. The airport is in the city. Any taxi will take you to Laguito for 12K pesos.

The only safety concern is throwing around too much money. Don't stand out.

It sounds like you are very set on the XBH option, so I will not try very hard to stop you. Like Cachorro I'm curious about it's location and I hope you will add that to your report.

Myself, if I were set on spending $1600 per day in Cartagena I would stay at the best hotel - Hotel Sofitel Santa Clara. http://www.hotelsantaclara.com/home.htm. This is a no-brainer. I would get a suite there and pre-register an additional person. Maybe two. That's around $1036 for three people. It's better than beach house; they don't just schlep me to the nice beaches - Sofitel has a private island with bungalows if I need beach time. They have a pool. Personally, I think most Americans would be happier using the apartments Tom 33 recommends, but since I'm trying to spend the money, I might as well spend it in the most powerful way.

Naturally, the hotel can help me get from and to the airport and the concierge can help me with anything else my heart desires. I don't need Spanish. It's an established hotel (as opposed to an undisclosed location) and they can field all my concerns all the time, in English. They have a French restaurant. They have an Italian restaurant. I'll try both. There's a great Argentine steak house nearby - Parrilla Argentina Quebracho - I would go to that restaurant more than once. Even if I take a guest along, it is not going to be that costly, considering my goals.

Let's say I take a friend a we drink wine. Since I'm trying to move through that money it's going to be important to drink wine. With wine in Colombia, I can throw a major wrench into a budget. Even so, I think $200 in food, fares and incidentals every day is pretty generous.

$1036 + $200 = $1236

On my first night, say 11pm, I arrange a taxi through the concierge and have them drive me to La Dolce Vita. La Dolce Vita is in a safe part of town. I have the driver wait for me. (although I'm sure the hotel can set me up with a driver who speaks some English and can help with, er, discussions). I've written down the name of the hotel on an index card just in case; I always carry a pen and a couple of index cards. Chances are pretty good I will encounter a woman in La Dolce Vita that speaks English and wants to help me - or some girl will come up to me with a piece of paper with various expressions and prices in both English and Spanish. There will be 20-30 girls there, most of them look as good as those at XBH, some of them look better and some of them probably look exactly the same.

I don't need to negotiate with these girls, since money is not an object. It's not going to be that hard communicating with them. (Less able men than you have done this Tripp) I just take a couple of the most attractive ones with me - the next day give them 300.000 each. Really, I could probably get by with giving them less, but heck - I'm living large. The girls are going to be struck by the fact I am staying in the Santa Clara. I could tell them I am the Vice Chancellor of Germany and they will believe me.

300.000 COP x 2 girls = $286 (with the hotel and other expenses $1522)

Of course, I've got a little Langenscheidt Spanish phrasebook. I keep it in my pocket. This will help me with basic communication. If I want one, or both, of the girls to stay with me, I use the phrasebook to get my message across. I never tell the girls when I am leaving town - as far as they know I am a bottomless supply of money and time.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat. Even if I decided to keep one of the girls during my first full day, I would still return to LDV the next night. The girls will be talking with each other, and I am cultivating a reputation as a Big Spender. By my third night of dropping 300k per girl, I believe the girls will be in active competition with each other for my attention. In fact, if I keep doing this long enough, girls will start coming in from all over Colombia in order to help meet the increase in demand. :)

They may actually start trying to under-cut each other on the price, just to get into the line-up, not that this would matter to me. I might see improved performance from girls - something that would not happen if I was locked into the limited pool of XBH girls. When hookers compete, we win.

Anyway, Tripp, I'm not sure if this strategy washes all the way through $1600 per day, but I know your quality of life is going to be higher in a real multi-star hotel with two girls instead of one and a number of excellent restaurants at your fingertips. If you want to save a little money you could opt for the second best hotel in Cartagena; you might have to give up that private island, but sometimes life is hard that way.

Hope this helps, man.

Dear Mr. Donut,

Yes, actually, I would very much appreciate a "a step-by-step plan of how you can have a great time in Cartagena in June without this needless expense". Seriously, I would. And I'd be happy to post a full report about it upon my return.I wasn't going to say anything but what the hell.

Everyone here has different ways of going about their goals in chasing the p*ssy. I am personally not into the cheap brothels or massage places. And I'm NOT into paying his type of prices for accomodations. Some are. To each their own.

I like the LDV type scene where I can hang out, look at the girls and take one out if I want one. Yes, it's more of the chase I guess. I also am like many here that try to watch my expenses. I do ok but I won't pay more than $100 ever for any chick in Colombia or other Central/South American country. I look for $25-75 dollar prices generally. I pay what the going price (or below) is and I travel to those places where it's a better bargain (Colombia is def. not the best bargain.. but the girls are amazingly hot). I'm going to Ecauador too to see if it's a better deal. Looks like it might be (girls aren't as hot though).

I am not like alot here though -- I like to meet the girls I can have more of a GFE with sometimes. Sometimes I just want a quick bang if she's hot. I like someone to do stuff with too. My mood changes.

If someone has the bucks to spend, more power to him. He's in a private place and isn't likely to affect my prices or yours for the girls. I personally think by doing a trip that way, you're missing out on a large part of the experience available. But, to each his own. Cartagena is very safe and once someone goes there, they know it. Everyone has to learn this for themselves though (I did too).

Very amusing.. ;-)

Actually, I'll be spending around $1,000 per day, not $1,600, but I won't rule out pulling in an extra girl or two during the week. Also, that price includes (in addition to the girls) not only my 1,200 square foot Master Suite in the "Penthouse" (I'm not staying at their Beach House), but all my food, alcohol, transportation, and such. So, while I can't compare where I'll be staying with the Sofitel, I'm not concerned about the quality of the accomodations or the food. The most interesting thing about your plan is that, given "unlimited" funds, you would spend them at La Dolce Vita. So, while I'm there, I will DEFINITELY get to La Dolce Vita one night (or more if I like it). Minimally, this will give me the chance to compare the girls there with the girls at XBH. I wonder what the XBH rules are about me bringing my own girl back to the apartment?

Do the girls at La Dolce Vita accept dollars rather than the local currency, and if yes, does one get screwed on the exchange rate? Also (the universal question!), where is the best place to exchange money?

Anyway, you're right. I'm not really at all afraid about communicating with the girls. I remember un poco of my high school spanish, and I have an excellent dictionary / phrase book / translater from LingvoSoft on my Treo 750. If I LOVE the Columbian women, and La Dolce Vita offers an excellent selection, perhaps I'll come back and just get an apartment on some other occasion.

It's an established hotel and they can field all my concerns all the time, in English.

LDV girls start with 100 USD and will change to peoses when asked.

Best place I found to change money was in Centro there are a row of exchange places on one street, can't remember exactly.

Personally I think you'd be better off staying at the place you are staying for 1 night, get the numbers of your favorite 3 chicas and invite them with you to a stay at say a Decameron in San Andreas for 5 days. Money much better spent, the chicas will be really competing for you hoping to be your novia, and it would be a heck of a lot less expensive.. oh and you could actually pay the chicas more than the $50/day max that they are probably recieving out of your $1000/day. If you are going to Cartagena because there is a beach you are going to be disappointed. You can find deals with airfare and hotel to San Andreas and stays at the Decameron for pretty cheap (compared to what you are spending). I will say that if you've never made love to a Colombiana you are in for a real treat... the best experience you will have ever had. You take 3 chicas to San Andreas... my friend you would be in heaven.... especially if all 3 of them really dig you.

I have read through your previous posts. I am really looking forward to reading your posts on Colombia. I think you are going to be in awe at the difference in quality of the chicas versus your mongering trips to DR and elsewhere... assuming your hotel does their work and brings you quality chicas. Even if they don't.. you seem resourceful enough to find them on your own.

Still, I'm really looking forward to this, and won't be focusing on how much money I might have saved. Thanks A LOT, for your, again, amusing response.
