P.S. The police told me that this was the first time they got aware of a scam in the Shark bar, though it was a pretty obvious case.Damn man. And I thought I was hard. You went to get the police over 500 baht? You must have way more time than you have money to waste a couple of hours like that. Especially since it was not such an obvious case. Like they said it was your word against theirs.
A couple of months ago. I went to a beach restaurant in Pratumnak. The bill was like 1200 baht. The waitress brought me back 300 baht change. I said wait, I gave you 2000. She said I gave her 1500. I argued about it a bit before I left. On may way home I began to think that I really did give her 1500 and felt like a jack a $$ for arguing.
Like you said, the best way to prevent this is to say the amount that you are handing them, which I am used to doing. A lot of times when you pay at the register I notice the cashier will leave the money on top until after they give you change. I suppose this is to prevent incidents like the one that happened to you.

So you actually have a record of having that particular note in your possession with that serial number. If the gogo cashier is not in on the scam as well then you may be able to identify your note.

I saw the 100 baht rung up, and then immediately said no, 1000 baht, not 100 baht, so she had to cancel the scam. Of course this scam only works when you are buying products that cost less than 100 baht.

That's why I'm always very careful to what they do or say when I give them the 1000 baht bill as it is always these places that I use to make smaller bills.
That is exactly the reason why, at most 7-11 the cashier says the amount that you give her loudly (though they say it in Thai, not in English), they have probably been trained by their managers to do so to avoid that scam.

On July 28, the bars were still closed until midnight. So, it was a good time to go to one of the soapies. I chose Honey 2 in Second Road, near Soi 2.
When I arrived around 8:30 PM, the place was packed, and a lot of Indians were there. It looked like they had dumped a number of package tour buses here and the tour included a soapie visit.
In the fishbowl, there were a few nice ones. However, when I entered the place, there was a window just left of the entrance, with the VIP girls. One of them was on my radar, and she had a nice smile. Her number is V2, she has a pretty face, very good body and perfect be-cup boops.
When I asked one of the staff, he told me that 1. 5 hours would be 3'800 baht. I found it a bit steep. However, after searching the other girls, I ended up looking at V2. I gave 100 baht to the second staff, paid 3'200 baht at the counter, and went with V2 to the room.
I don't want to spend too much time describing the procedure here, since this has been done many times. Just so much:
- Very nice service by a very pretty and humorous girl.
- Quite reasonable English skills.
- Open minded, talkative and good experience.
- She pushed a bit too much with the time, though. Probably, management told them to finish earlier than 1. 5 hours due to the masses of customers waiting. This was the only negative aspect.
During our session, V2 told me a bit about the prices, which I found worthwhile to post here. I assume that Honey 2 is not the only place where they have similar practices.
Prices for VIP girls at Honey 2.
- For Thai men = 3'200 baht.
- For Indian men = 3'800 baht.
- For Chinese men = 4'200 baht.
I don't comment on this, and I am not racist at all. But I find it very interesting. It means that we really have to be careful not to pay exaggerated prices. The good news for me was that I did not pay more than any Thai would pay. V2 confirmed this.

The lessons for me (and perhaps for some fellow mongers as well) are as follows:
- If ever I can, I shall pay with the smallest possible banknote (recommendation by the police).
- Whenever giving a banknote to the waitress, I shall tell her the denomination, e. G. "I give you one thousand baht" and make sure she realizes what I am saying. Best would actually be asking her to repeat the amount.
- And, of course, always to check the change and to complain if it is not correct.
- If there is any scam, always report to the police. If there is a bar that regularly cheats, this will damage its reputation and increase the chances to nail them down.Perhaps take a picture of the instance where you are handing over the notes to the waitress? That help?
I try not to use 1000 Baht notes at all, unless it's for an over 500 Baht bill.
Anywhere.Well on Soi 6 and beer gardens they deliberately give you 50 baht notes and 10 baht coins to bait you into tipping when they could have given you 600 or 700 baht change in bigger bills for the bar fine.
Thanks for all your additional suggestions. I think they are all quite valuable, and some might be more practicable while others less.
In the case of the Shark bar, I assume that it was an intentional scam. Some of the things that happened hint in that direction. So, even taking pictures of my 1'000 baht notes wouldn't have helped. They just wouldn't show that note to me.
Hence, I believe the best is really:
(1) To use the smallest possible notes.
(2) To agree with the waitress on the amount you gave to her.
Then, it should be much safer.
At Mr. Enternational: It was not about the money. I invested my time (altogether about 1. 5 hours) since I don't like to be victim of a scam and since I want to make sure to the best possible extent that it doesn't happen anymore, neither to me nor to fellow mongers.
Last, but not least, if you have time you may go to the police station and request that the CCTV is opened. Then it becomes clear.

Sorry to hear about your issues at Shark Club, wonderer. Really sucks when things like that happen. I have personally been to Shark many times including 3 visits last week and never had an issue with them. I'll certainly be more wary moving forward. Had this happen to me several times. Only 1 time was intentional and it was a taxi driver. Note swapping and fake notes and short changing are very common in the Latin and south American countries. They make corruption an art. I usually just stare down the guy and go your route. It brings enough attention and trouble that they usually do not want or need. In your case, I think the cashier swapped the note so the count in not off. If the owners are not on site and part of the scam, heads will roll eventually. Happen at several reputable places I know. The establishment was getting ripped off and not so much the customers.

I had a big birthday and my originals plans fell through so as a friend suggested, Nanapong Dollhouse Pattaya on the 20th! That was enough to go fu $k it I am going to Thailand for by birthday. Since my time was short to get to patts to make Nanapong I prebooked a car through Keak's service using line. 1100 THB and driver had a sign and was waiting for me, total time from plane to expressway under 30 minutes, wonderfully efficient (granted I had an express pass for immigration which helped).

Just ten years ago, it wasn't at all like that. In fact, girls were often saying they prefer older guys since they would typically be more generous, demand less bang for their buck, and are easier to hook in a longer term game. Actually there are 2 Tequila Reefs. One is in AC, Philippines just off Fields and the 2nd is the Pattaya one. They are both owned by the same friendly guy. I have never eaten at the Pataya branch which is a testament to the fact that Philippine cuisine is vastly inferior to Thai cuisine, but I eat at the AC branch all the time. Try the Fajitas or the Burrito plates and chase the food with a cold Mexican beer.

Went to Sabai Dee on 2nd Road, North Pattaya around 11 pm last night. I was surprised by the lack of girls there, maybe only around 12 or so. I was surprised when she explained to me that Indian men get charged 2500 baht, and Chinese men 3000 baht for her as a Blue badge. Apparently they get a lot of Chinese tour groups coming in and the tour guide expects a 5000 baht tip from the establishment for bringing them all in. That's why the Chinese get charged the most. I visited Art in Paradise for the first time which is easy to reach just off Second Road. For maximum enjoyment take a girl with you (mine loved it) and download the Art in Paradise app before going. I have been to Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Jakarta, Bali, Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea and would recommend PI over all these because they speak English, are known for GFE, are super friendly and it's relatively easy and inexpensive to find quality snatch. IMO go to Makati (Burgos), Malate (LA Cafe), Angeles, Subic and / or Cebu in that order if you have the time and means. Try to pre-set dates from Filipino Cupid or other dating / social media but realize this can be time-consuming and many are scammers or flakes.

We are all different and many aren't comfortable with this type of situation but need to add it to their game as some call it.
As for Kinnaree, although there are a few aggressive freelancers the reason I like the place is that it is relaxing. From my experience, they will make their rounds come up and talk to you making one uncomfortable seem for some part of the hunt because they feel might get a drink out of it. Majority of the time I just tell them nicely I like to look that is why I sit near the stairs to watch them come to work the best part of the place the girls have no problem with it, it is the few places the girls don't get attached or mad if you take another girl. It works the other way around too once you are done before you can say goodbye to her she is already off working on another customer. If you stay then it is back the other way another girl working on you again.

Nah that is not funny her written French is weak or non existent. So is mine. 4 years probably did not include huge schooling. She probably has weak writing skills in all languages. Thanks Rob.I lived nearby for a few years. Those beer bars cater to mostly expats and tourists who come back to that area regularly. The more lively bars at night are at the very north end of Soi7 almost at Jomtien 2nd road. You can find the odd stunner there. A handful of freelancers like to use those bars to earn LadyDrinks and a nightly barfine. Soi Whitehorse I know mainly from the decent buffet breakfast special at the Danmark Hotel.

I admit my knowledge of Soi 7 is from two to four years ago, so the usual caveats of YMMV, ladies come, ladies go, etc. Etc. Additionally my reasons for being in that locale we not related to our? Hobby? / vocation?
Soi Whitehouse (or Whitehorse or Whatever) I have no experience of the bars towards the beach road end of Soi 7 tend to be the "sofa for the wrinklies" kind. This is cheap Charlie town where a lot of Europeans sit out the cold north European winter and nurse a single beer for months, living the high life. The ladies were there but were much not much younger (or slimmer) than the customers. I have no interest in whether they were available or for what price.
There were a couple of interesting pool bars (not my sport) opposite Mermaid resort that had interesting younger staff and a very pleasant vibe (as in very friendly but not pushy if, like me, you were only there for a beer and to unwind rather than to indulge in the more basic pleasures, but always nice to know you could if the whim takes you). However, last time I was there they had a new European (until March 2019) owner who treated the girls like sh! T and was only interested in playing HIS music and would change songs every 30 seconds.
Top end of Soi 7 was lots of shop-house guesthouses = bars = restaurants = whatever they need to do to extract THB from your wallet. Certainly didn't ever feel like drinking, eating or "partaking" in any of them as I walked past.

I heard one papasan explain it was because Indians charged more because spend too much time just looking and wasting mamasan and papasan time, returning repeatedly before ever hiring a girl, and even then they will attempt to barter as if it's an Indian market. The Chinese are charged more just because they are willing to pay whatever they ask and rarely put up a haggle.

Now, Kink offers something entirely different. The first floor is your standard go-go bar with some nudity. With my last trip in the beggining of the decade, I was curious about what changes could I expect to find, everybody gives their opinion, but our own has always a special meaning.
It was just a few days, and I plan to do the same report in Bangkok.
Generally Pattaya seemed the same old place, a very lively city, a unique experience.
In the last years, it seems the place has grown larger, I found much more shops specially in the boundaries of the city.
Also the number of families and couples around continued to grow, sooner or later Walking Street will be just a show people come to watch taking pictures, and the mongers will be part of the show, like in a Circus, I had that feeling specially with the Japanese and Chinese tourists.
Perhaps its the time of the year, but specially with the massage joints, I saw a very growing number of them, but almost no clients, it made me some kind of confusion, how can that places be open?
Around 7 pm I had a foot massage on 2nd road, there were more that 10 women working there, but duroing the full hour nobody entered ther place, its a mistery.
In terms of mongering, and despite it was just a few days, I will divide by areas.
Beach Road. I witnessed dozen of discussions about if there were or not some hidden gems, but in my walks in the afternoon, 9 pm and 11 pm, I saw a very low quality, almost no one was doable in my opinion, perhaps some years ago was a little better, perhaps I was unlucky, but its a forgettable thing.
Soi 7 and 8 seemed worst, less bars, less girls (specially on one of them, but I don't recall).

I might return to Pattaya this trip, and at the time I hope I will be bettter informed about the full nude A Go Go, with minimum quality.

Heavy rain the past few nights has put a damper on my current stay in Pattaya. Lucky for me however, is that I still have 2 weeks to play around. It is far worse in Phnom Penh, I feel. I was there only briefly but was certainly not impressed by food selections. Numerous carts selling food. Every one of them selling exactly the same shitty "food" as the one next to them. Hard to find anything "edible". Variation extremely low. At least in Thailand, different carts sell different things (in the good areas).Actually there are over 100 types of food sold on the streets of Cambodia including most of what's sold in Thailand. None of it is set up or catered to foreigners though, so if you don't know what you're looking for or how to look you won't find what you like probably. I personally prefer eating in a restaurant than in the middle of a street. Restaurants in Phnom Penh are as good or better than any in Thailand, especially French, steak houses and Italian.

If you agreed then you can see why they continue to do this.Though a bit late after the initial post by Nounce, I fully agree with Rick Rock: paying upfront is a no-go. I had such request in the past already in several bars. However, I bluntly refused and told the mamasan that I will pay the girl, after she did her job. Most mamasans accepted then. Sometimes only after a short discussion, though. I always made it clear that if they insist on upfront payment, I will go to another place. However beautiful the girl was. Saying that firmly and without leaving any doubt that I am serious about it, most often did the job. With the exception of one mamasan only, all others accepted.
So, it's ultimately in our hands how the market develops. I just hope that some Japanese or Koreans don't destroy it. While I am not racist at all, I have seen representatives of these nationalities doing some really, really stupid things that mess up the market. This is definitely not in our interest.
