An interesting thing in Thailand, however, is that there are a lot of girls that actually have their own preferences and will participate actively in the choosing process. Especially (it seemed to me) in Pattaya (in the discos). Therefore, if you are young and handsome you might naturally be able to pay less for a better looking girl than an older guy would. On the other hand, if you are an older guy (assuming average looking), you might be able to get any girl you want by offering a relatively small premium while the younger guys jerk her around over 500 or 1000 baht.

Too much money is being sloshed around in Pattaya and the better girls get to choose what they want.

No one is disputing that some punters pay more, way more, than others do for the girls' services. The point is: it doesn't ruin the market or drive up prices. The posts below prove that point. If punters who chose to pay "peanuts" can still get the girls they want, how can the market have been ruined for anyone?

Some visitors to Pattaya spend 300 baht a night on a hotel room, other spend 3,000 a night and a few, a very few, spend 30,000 a night (that's what the Presidential Suite at the Marriott costs and it is often occupied). Some will have a 50-baht bowl of noodles from a street stall for supper, some spend 500 baht for farang food in sit-down restaurant and others splurge on steak and lobster for 5,000 baht. Some punters outfit themselves with T-shirts and shorts for 500 baht from a sidewalk vendor, others will buy three or four brand-name shirts at Robinson for 5,000 baht and a handful will spend 50,000 for a bespoke suit from a Zegna-certified tailor. Nobody comments, nobody cares.
So why the hell is there so much concern about what a few guys spend on the girls?

They pay more for superior quality or taste or image, which does not mean they are overpaying. Overpaying is paying more than other for the same quality (and too often overpaying for lower quality). Would you go to a shop and pay double price than other customers for the same shirt? I have paid up to 3500 THB for a girl in Thailand, but the girl was really worth this price.
In every place, there is a standard market price, in Pattaya it's 1000 LT except gogos, in Phuket it's 1500 LT. Phuket is a good example of how overpaying can ruin the market. So many regular tourists who don't know price and quality have created a ridiculous situation where all second-class girls are now asking for 2000 Bath or more (mot of them don't get it still...).

And just to expand this beyond all this tedious discussion about price, being a bit generous with money seems to me part of a whole type of behavior that some guys just don't seem to get. Yes, they're working girls, but if you're relaxed and funny with them, show a bit of consideration (you know, like treating them like people rather than sexual appliances), and don't spend all your time trying to bargain prices and demand services x, y, and z . . . well, you might be surprised at the service you get, and the kind of priority you receive when you want to see them again.

When we explicitly define prices for hooking say 1000B, all sorts of third party comes in, the reason sex trafficking, child exploitation, pimping is increasing is due to the fact that people know there is a fixed price to be had for sex.
With this comes the business industry, big hotels, big bars and in 10 years, the same 1000B becomes 2000B and we complain the old days were better and cheaper, it was never about inflation it was about fixed prices and third party involvement and because of it inflation came in prices of hooking.
Ask any old expat in THB and he will always say the old times were golden, not knowing he would have contributed to the ignorant fact of "fixed pricing" which has ruined and exploited thousand of lives by third party hungry money grabbers.
One might say, what can one man can do to change the whole system of fixed pricing....that is the beauty of karma, if only the west was educated on laws of karma....you keep on doing your karma and you get the same reward....if you do your karma right...the world will change eventually.
let the hooking be between a man and a women, lets not define prices outright, lets keep it natural, if we do this now, the prices for ever would be same for hooking as long as we keep the third party pimps, bar owners, hotels away...now the third party is the king while the women who give service to us suffers.
Lets some pay 1000, some pay 500 and some pay 1500, it does not matter if it is low or high, the point is, we should keep it as random as possible to keep the third party and women exploiters away, as when they know the price always fluctuates, there wouldn't be any business opportunity nor any full time profession to exploit women..every body wins in this game.

You don't just buy a shirt; you buy a Polo shirt or a Lacoste shirt or an Armani shirt or a Turnbull and Asser shirt. Is it polyester? Silk? Double stitched? Egyptian cotton? Exact sleeve length or average? Custom made or off the rack? Again the price is dependant on the quality.
I think the same pricing structure applies to women of the night. No two are alike, and since there is such a wide range of quality, and certainly no uniform grading scale, the price will depend on the quality. And since no two punters rate women the same way, these discussions are pretty meaningless.
They are just a rough guide on where the negotiations for an average looking woman delivering an average experience might end up. Expect to pay extra for good grooming, good looks, sex appeal, language abilities, and an attractive complete package. Likewise, expect to pay extra for any service beyond what is considered "normal" here.
It seems that some fellows are more focused on the price than the service, and I think a lot of fellows get off on claiming to have gotten the biggest bargain. You paid 600 baht???? HaHa...I only paid 550.
It reminds me of the discussions we had in high school when comparing how much sex we got from a date compared to how little we spent on that date. You had to take Jane to dinner and a movie to cop a feel? HaHa....I got a feel while watching a movie in my parents rec room while spending nothing!

Does anyone know how the grading scale works at soapies? Is there one manager who chooses what category a girl will be in? Like David 2 said there is no uniform grading scale from person to person, so how is this done in an establishment that has price differentiation/discrimination? Of course I had read before about the soapies in BKK where the sideliners cost more than the fishbowl, etc. However I did not witness it first hand until I went to PP Massage in Pattaya where girls with a red tag would cost about 600 baht more than the girls with the blue tag. To my mongering eyes many of the cheaper girls looked better than the more expensive ones, so I could not understand how one would be able to distinguish between the two had they not worn different-colored tags. And what kind of self-esteem does this leave the girls with? I can just imagine one going in for the interview and the manager telling her, "well, we are going to put you in the 'bottom of the barrel' category."

In some markets there is a standard price for all products (e.g. movie tickets), but it might change depending on the venue.
Women for hire generally do seem to have a standard price (or price range) based on the venue. I once went with a freelancer on Sukhumwit for 1500 LT who asks for and gets 5000 ST in Novotel disco (have seen her there as well). At the lower end, on beach road in Pattaya 99% of the girls take 500 baht ST, regardless if they're an old used up hag or a hot 19-y.o. part-timer.
Before completing the deed (or seeing the movie), there is no way to gauge how much it is worth (that beautiful lady could be a starfish, or just not click with you).

If you have limited resources, it is a difference between 4 or 5 nights of pleasure... and then paying more does not make it likely that your experience will be better.
I kept track over the years, and there is no correlation at all between service quality and price. There is minimal correlation between looks and price, but that could well be because I don't mind going with an average-looking girl if the price is OK, but wouldn't for a higher price. I'd rather pay a good tip afterwards for good service, than overpromise ahead of time and hope.
All said and done, this price discussion is entirely academic and personal. Realistically there is no way we'll affect the market conditions no matter what we do. In Thailand, the market is too big, varied and resilient -- and that's a good thing.

I agree and don't agree with you. As I wrote overpaying is paying more than others for the same girl. Of course, some girls are more pretty or offer better service and generate more demand and can often get more money. However, there tend to be a standard price +/- X% in each city (I pay cheaper in Pattaya or Chiang Mai than in Phuket), in each venue (I pay more in thermae for japanese oriented girls than in Biergarden). Broadly speaking it works.
Additionally, about this price question. The issue is not to show off by paying less than others, as was written. The issue is that many unexperienced readers are reading our threads trying to make out what should be the decent price to pay (not overpaying, not cheap charley either). Maybe they don't know that Pattaya is cheaper than Phuket or Bangkok, maybe they've never mongered in Thailand!

At the soapies which cater to Asian customers, the tint of the girl's skin and her height will largely determine her "grade." I agree that it is sometimes difficult to see much difference between girls of various "grades," while in other cases, a girl from the fishbowl will look better in my eyes than a sideliner or model.
I've also heard it said that a girl's willingnes to pay kick backs to the mama- or papasans will influence which "grade" she holds. Never forget that the soapies are very much Thai turf. Their turf, their rules. The girls are quite used to being classified according to one scale or another, formal or informal, since their preschool days. They don't worry too much about it.

I haven't added a report for a while, so here goes. For consistently good looking girls day in and day out, month in and month out as well as year end and year out the two best Go-Go bars on walking street are Happy a Go-GO and Super Girls.
Happy a Go Go is probably the most popular bar on walking street. Well, no probably about it, it defiantly is. I start most of my nights there with a few draft beers for 55 Baht that are always cold. The girls at Happy's are always super slim with cute faces. Not too many there with nice real boobs, but quite a few fake ones are starting to show up.
Quite a few Asian tourist go here and a large percentage of the girls seem to prefer them, for the obvious reason. By the way, if you don't know what that is, just ask one of the girls and they will tell you there standard joke.
It is rare that I take a girl from Happy's, I am a tit man.
Super Girls on the other hand, probably has about 70% of the girls as Happy's, but the chances of finding a very high quality girl is much better. These are the two best paying bars on the street, but for what ever reason Super Girls seems to have the same super cute girls, but quite a few have real nice sets of natural tits and much better bodies.
Another big plus of Super Girls is that is only has 25% of the customers that Happy's does. So all in all, I would have to say Super Girls is the best Go Go bar on walking street. I am sure there are others would disagree with me, and that’s your prerogative.
That being said, you can walk into the dumpiest bar in the entire city on any given day and find the hottest girl in Thailand. In fact, just a few doors down from Super Girls is a little bar that can't be more than 20 feet wide that has two of the best looking girls on walking street. So, don't limit yourself to only the most popular bars. If you don't find something you like at any bar, just move on until you do.
One is very pretty, she says she is 18, but I would say 21 or 22 with a set of 35" that stick out straight and she loves showing them off. She NEVER puts her shirt on when she is on stage or off stage, which is great to just watch her parade all over the bar with those beautiful things showing. She is great in the sack too.
There is another one that just came into town, you can tell because she is still shy. She is about 5'-6", which is tall for a Thai girl, as beautiful as they get, with a set of 36DD's that stick out straight. She is not that good in bed, but I am doing my best to help her improve her technique. Somebody had to volunteer to be her teacher and for the greater good of womanhood everywhere I did. For those of you on a budget, or for those of you that don't find what you want at a bar, you can do what a great deal of us do that live here. There are plenty of great GO-GO bars that have 55 Baht draft beer now. Just go to a few of those and you will have a nice buzz on after a while and should be in the mood for a little action.
Then head out to walking street and see what walks by. There are literally thousands of free lancers that walk up and down the street all night long. Many girls come down from Bangkok when the universities are out or the have some free time from work for extra money.
Some go to the discos, some just walk. You can get just as good a girl on walking street as you can at any Go-Go bar at half the price, or even less. The price depends on the girl of course, but it should be between 500 to 1,000 Baht.
I have seen quite a bit of discussion about prices recently, so let me add my 2 cents and give you the real deal.
At beer and short time bars the price is 300 Baht bar fine and 500 Baht for the girl. Some girls might ask for 700, if they are super nice and you like them then pay it. Also, if it is early in the day or evening, they might want a double bar fine if you want to take a girl for a long time, that is standard and if you like her then pay it. Of course the girl's fee will also be double.
The Go-Go bars bar fine is 600 Baht and the girl will want 1,500 Baht for short time and between 2,500 and 3,000 for long time. The same methodology applies at the Go-Go bars, if you take them early in the evening for a long time the bar fine will almost assuredly be double.
A few tips to help you enjoy you stay more.
1) Try to find a girl that likes you, they all won't or don't.
2) The better they dance, the better they are in bed.
3) If you thinking about taking a girl always buy her a drink first to get to know her a little. This hard and fast rule can help you avoid disappointing evenings.
4) Don't negotiate; I gave you the prices above. The amount of fun you are going to have is directly related to the girl. If she is un-happy you will be too. If they ask for a higher price than is standard, and many do, just say something like this, "I heard the price was 1,500 Baht."
That is all you have to do and if they want to go with you they will and they will drop the price fast. Don't feel bad if they don't drop the price either, most of the time they have some alternative reason they won't tell you. Such as, another regular customer is coming by later, they are going home tomorrow and have to get up early for the bus, it is there special time of the month, etc.
Here's a funny side note, the other night I tried to bar fine a girl from Happy's and the manager came over to tell me I couldn't, she told me "Her pussy no good." She was on her period, but the girl would not tell me.
5) Get a mobile phone the first day you are here. You can buy one at Tuk.Com, which is a six story building a mile from Walking Street where you can buy a used one for 1,000 to 2,000 Baht and sell it back for half that amount when you leave.
Then make sure you get every girls number that you take out that you like. They all have mobile phones; in fact the one I took last night slept with it under her pillow. In the afternoon, when you resting in you hotel room give your favorites a call and some of them will come over. Best of all, no bar fine and the Go-Go bar girls will often take only a 1,000 Baht for a little afternoon action.
6) Buy the girls some cheap gifts from back home before you arrive and then give it too them as soon as you enter the hotel room. This is the best investment you will ever make, the girls just love them and they then love you for giving it to them. I used to but tee-shirts or cheap perfume from the flea markets.
7) If your in a bar and they are pushing drinks; like in the form of shooters, get out of there. That bars business is all about drinks and not bar fines. I am all about bar fines personally.
8) If a girl walks up to shake you hand, wants to sit down or ask you to buy them a drink and you have you eye on somebody else, then politely get out of it. Just say you waiting for somebody else, or you want somebody else or you have to leave, whatever. Just do it nicely and you will have no problem. But, once you buy a girl a drink, you will have a very hard time getting the real girl you want. The girl you want will not want to infringe on her friends business and more than likely will stay away from you.
It has been pretty slow in Pattaya for the last year or so due to the world wide economic meltdown. Too bad for the girls, but too good for me. I am 52 now and I have lived here for 6 years and there pretty much is not a time when I leave my condo that I am not hit on, smiled at or have some kind of conversation started by some stunning 25 Thai lady.
In fact, just two days ago I was walking back from Tut.Com to 2nd road because there is a big fruit and vegetable market on the way where a many of the girls go to buy something to eat and I got lucky. I checked out Super Girl last night after reading Bill Miami's excellent report.

After my last post on the best Go-Go bars in Pattaya we had quite a few comments on the performance of the girls. Since this seems to be an issue with a few of our regular readers, I thought I would address these particular comments. Before I do that, I would like to say my posts are intended for the tourist visiting Pattaya for a relatively short time in an attempt to provide them the information I would like to know if I were visiting to enhance my experience.
Back to performance, the truth of the matter and this point is not even close to being debatable; you NEVER know how good the girl is going to be in bed until you get her there. Whether she is the best looking lady you have ever seen or the worst, the results can and will vary greatly.
A few tips that can provide you more information on a particular girl to help you make a more informed decision are the following:
1) As I mentioned before, if they are great dancers on stage, then more than likely they are going to be good in bed.
2) When they sit down with you; if they are all over you, kissing and hugging you, that helps a little, but not as much as you might think.
3) If they don't speak any English at all usually means they have only been here a short time and probably don't have to much experience, thus they are not likely going to be too good. But, this can be solved with a little training on your part.
4) Exactly the opposite of #3, if they speak great English usually means they have been here a while and are VERY experienced, thus the better for you. If they happen to tell you they learned English in school and they will, just nod your head that you believe them, but now you know the truth. They learned English in the bars. It is not Chili Bar. I probably should not mention bars if I don't know the name of it. The next time I am down there I will try and look at its name and remember it.
I know it's not Chili, because as you say quite a few of the girls from Ruby's are working there now while there bar is being renovated. One of them is one of my regulars that I always stop and talk to when I am on the street. She is one that has me on her list at being upset with me for not taking her for a while.

However, the clubs don't have the same ownership. Edenpapa sold his interest in what was intended to be Eden Pattaya in January, 2007, after the sudden death of his partner in the venture. just completed a se asia trip that included 10 days or so in pattaya. didn't break any major new ground on the mongering front compared to some of the pros here, but in gratitude for the information on this site i thought i'd dish out all the tidbits from the trip that might be of some use/value in a rep001tershot list. so here goes:
* going rate on beach is still b500, with some taking b400. tourist police sweeps (riding bikes, scooters, etc.) are still common, whether motivated by some event like an international conference (even if it's in bangkok) or, some say, by complaints from the bars about the competition. sweeps i saw were harassment ones, i.e. the girls would go to the other side of the street and then resume as usual when the bikes passed.
* soi 6 still same as it ever was, with most places wanting b300 for st room and b700 (or close, if "up to you") for girl. also saw some of the same faces.
* low season appears to mean a sharper dip in business this year vs. more-recent years. bars are having to offer more and better happy-hour specials, including even some former holdouts to the "b55 draft beer all night" game. walking street fills up later (11-ish), and many who are there are gawkers who don't go in the bars.
* traffic gets progressively worse, as farangs try to bring in their western ways and think it'd be great to have a car or residence "where there's more room or it's less hectic." those who bought any distance from the baht-bus loop (e.g. east of sukhumvit, or too far north or south) are facing increasingly long trips to get to the central part of pattaya as traffic deteriorates all over town (some of the worst knots occur at intersections well outside the central baht-bus loop). it's looking more and more like an urban commute.
* catz has one of the better happy hour deals at b65 for call brands (like a southern comfort-coke) and even bacardi breezer up to 9:30. they'd include cocktails in that as well if you mentioned stickman. i'd bet that deal won't be around in high season.
* a number of go-gos have a maddening 3- or 4-tier barfine system where ordinary dancers are b600, "showgirls" b700, service b700, featured performers b1000, etc. and of course your girl will be priced the highest for some reason. on the other end of the ledger, some bars will do b300 barfine after a certain hour, and i even saw a sign at far east on soi post office that they have that for 8:30 and after. as always, girls in the go-gos will want quite a bit more than ones in beer bars or on the streets as their part of the deal, and may even want bangkok-level prices.
* bars with "groping stages" and/or a high raunch factor include windmill club on soi diamond, baby dolls across from what's up, and x-zone (same building as club boesche) late at night, as well as a reformatted blue lagoon at the back of best friend beer bars. all are wilder than anything allowed in bangkok, phuket, chiang mai, etc. windmill is probably the most popular. but managements have stopped having cashiers give b20 change for gropers/tippers and are prodding the girls toward pushing for lady drinks instead. i guess they don't like people like moi who'll do a finger double penetration and then tip b20. :))
(btw, i'll tip only for a good level of contact that'd get me thrown out of most u.s. clubs. no tips just for looking.)

you can't "sit down please" without a specific target, but your efforts to scan-and-identify are greatly hampered by instantly being the center of attention and with everyone at all bars doing the "sit down please" bit. worst of all are places like a few on soi 7 that aren't above using "bait girls" to bring you in but that don't stay with you.
if you do talk to the girl you want, she might fail the interview or do the wrong-time-of-month bit. then you're back to square one. it can take a surprising amount of time & effort if you're the least bit picky.
(resident expats have a huge advantage; they give out cell numbers to girls who performed well, and then become the girls' backup choices to call on slow nights. no need to go to the bars.)

The reason for the confusion here, Mr. Enternational, is that she was misrepresenting the situation to you. Everyone most certainly does not know that 500 is the price for short time because just a year or two ago it was 300, and it is still 300 in many, many occurrences.

I went back to Soi 6 today for one of my usual afternoon entertainment sessions. I made a special point of remembering the name of the new bar I like so much, it is called the "Lisa Bar," after the owner I think. Who knows really?
I like this bar because it is new and has the best air conditioner on the street. I travel from Jomtien which takes about 20 minutes and Thailand is hot, so the first thing I want to do when I get there in the afternoon is to cool down. The beer in this bar is also the coldest on the street; it is so cold it is great.
I started talking to the owner and told her I would mention her bar on the internet and maybe she would get a few customers. So I cut a deal with her for any members of WSG.
When you first sit down and tell her "Internet Special" and "Buy one Beer get one Free" you will get two beers for the price of one. Although this might not seem that unusual for most places, in Thailand it is. It is only good for one free beer though, you can't sit there all day and drink.
After two beers you will have made up your mind weather you want to take any of her girls anyway. She does not have the largest selection, only 7 or 8, but a few are real cuties and all are pretty high quality.

Yes, the hotel can see the differences, just that some don't care as long as you don't care (they assume it was you that picked her so most hotel policy is to see ID of any guest and in a way-they did their job). If you don't mind women over about 30 years of age, it is easy. Under thirty only a very few are willing, but among the over thirties on the beach it is maybe 10%. Probably similar on Soi 6, and it is possible to find it in other bars though obviously it is rare.

I have had this information for sometime before I forget about it I better post it now.
For those of you in or going to be in Pattaya, in regards to the topic of ATM'S charges of 150 baht for foreign debit and credit cards holders. It has already been mentioned that the following Banks are not charging the fee. Here are some locations of those Banks if you happen to be within the area and what to save 150 baht per withdraw and put it towards a beer to two.
Aeon ATM, One located on the main level of Carrefour but it has been OFF-LINE FOR 2 WEEKS NOW. There is also a Aeon Branch and a bunch of machines at Tesco, just off Pattaya Nua Rd.
Government Bank ATM: ( to some Thai's this is consider the Kings Bank ) Red but close to pink color machine. One located upstairs in Carrefour, just outside the super market.
UOB ATM, always located next to their Money Exchange Booth:
One located on 2rd, on left hand side right after Soi 13/3, One located on Beach Rd, left hand side right after Mike department store just before Soi 12.
One located on Soi 13/2 near Beach Rd. across from Pizza Hut.

The Thai Government Bank ( pink machine ) has been reported by many Expats living here that some are starting to charge. Slowly in time pretty consistent with how things work here is that all will be charging soon.

Some confusion in this thread about ATM charges. I'll try to straighten things out.
There are several different types of charges involved in using a foreign ATM card in Thailand. The 150-baht charge is applied by the Thai bank that owns the ATM machine. It doesn't matter which foreign bank issued the card or how much you're withdrawing, you will be charged 150 baht.
Then there are charges your bank will impose. One is called a foreign transaction fee and can amount to 5% of the transaction (and even more in some cases), but is often 3% - it depends on which bank issued the card. Finally, there is a 1% fee that the Cirrus (Visa) and Maestro (MasterCard) systems put on foreign transactions. Most often, you'll end up paying a total of 5% of the transaction in fees for the convenience of using a Thai ATM machine.
That means if you withdraw a total total equivalent to US$2,000 during a two-week trip to Thailand, it will cost you US$100 in fees. If you use a credit card to make cash withdrawals, it will cost you even more, as there is an additional fee of 3% or more.
If you visit Thailand regularly, the best idea is to open a Thai bank account so you can use a Thai ATM card. Once you have such an account, you can either wire money to the account before you depart you home country, or bring traveler's cheques/cash to convert to baht and deposit in the account. That way,you have the convenience of using an ATM card but none of the extra expense of using a foreign ATM card.

Or you can get a residence certificate at Immigration and submit that with the application for your Thai bank account. You can simply name your hotel as your place of residence and that will suffice.

Yeah, you will need to go to Immigration with your passport, copy of passport, passport sized photo, and 100-200 baht or so for the fee; fill out an appropriate application with the address and telephone number of your hotel, and your own cell number. Immigration will issue you the cerficate document to take to the bank as proof of residence.
You can open a passbook account and ATM card with as little as 100 baht. You will then have a Thai based account for receipt of money transfers from your foreign account.

Go to Kasikorn or Krung Thai with passport in hand and you should be able to get a savings account with ATM card. Have done both, granted in BKK (Exchange Tower near Asoke). In and out with in 15 minutes.

Yeah, you will need to go to Immigration with your passport, copy of passport, passport sized photo, and 100-200 baht or so for the fee; fill out an appropriate application with the address and telephone number of your hotel, and your own cell number. Immigration will issue you the cerficate document to take to the bank as proof of residence.
You can open a passbook account and ATM card with as little as 100 baht. You will then have a Thai based account for receipt of money transfers from your foreign account.
Thai banks require a minimum balance of 2,000 Baht or activity in the account. If one of the above is not met you will be charged a service fee of 50 Baht per month and your account will be closed when it no longer has any funds in it. You are also charged a yearly fee of 200 Baht for your Debit card.
You can open an account at Kasikornbank with just your passport and any address, you can use your hotel if you like. There are many branches in Pattaya.

If you coming here on vacation or for an extended stay, then you will be far better off using cash or travelers checks. Most if not all quality hotels will supply an in room safe. You can also use the house safe and will be supplied with a receipt when you leave money in it.
If you use a credit card to pay for your hotel as an example, your credit card company will charge a 3% fee for using it outside your country and virtually every Thai company will charge an additional 5% fee. So an 8% fee in total will be added any time your CC is used.
All ATM's I know of are now charging a 150 Baht fee, although a few have mentioned here that don't. I don't believe that will last too long. In addition your US bank will charge a fee from $2 to $10 and in many cases 1% of the amount withdrawn. It gets very expensive.
If you're coming here for an extended time, before you leave your country you need to set it up with them to do wire transfer via the telephone or internet. Almost assuredly you will need to use the telephone, I have not heard of any banks you can do international wires over the internet, but I am sure there are.
Then open a Thai bank account and wire the money in. This will provide you the best exchange rates and lowest fees. If you use your Thai banks ATM's there are not any fees. If you use another banks ATM's the fees are 20 to 30 Baht.

Just do what I do, Open a Capital One credit card before you leave your country. It is about the only one left thats still free of almost all fees (except the mandatory 1% Intl expchange rate charge that can't be avoided). So using their CC will only be 1% max for all foreign purchases, but a bit more for using this CC for ATM cash withdraws but I believe even that is cheaper than other company credit cards for withdraws. just inquiry at their bank or look it up in the net.

This machine belongs to the Thai Military bank and the last time I needed emergency pussy money the maximun allowed was 5,000 to a foreign ATM card. Another example is in Pattaya, outside Foodland there is a Siam Commericail ATM, maximum is 10,000 baht. Personally I have no idea WTF, they are doing except if you come back more often for more baht, each time they get another 150 baht!
In the end, how much you can get is dependent on where your card was issue and what the daily limit is on your card. Example my Debit/Credit card is issue in the U.S. my Bank allows for a maximum of 500 USD a day. In Thailand with the exchange rate 33.95 to 1 baht, that gives me pretty much a maximun withdraw of 17,000 baht.

In the end, how much you can get is dependent on where your card was issue and what the daily limit is on your card. Example my Debit/Credit card is issue in the U.S. my Bank allows for a maximum of 500 USD a day. In Thailand with the exchange rate 33.95 to 1 baht, that gives me pretty much a maximun withdraw of 17,000 baht.

Last April I was getting 20.000 from the purple machine near Landmark in BKK.
You see if they lower the limit then we have to pay more % in order to get the same amount. That's what they did in Argentina. It used to be 1.500 pesos per transaction and they lowered it to 300 which is only about 60€ nowdays.
In that way they increased five times the fees for getting the 1.500 pesos.
I have to pay 4€/transaction to my bank. So go figure. I only go with good old cash there trying to avoid their high fees.

In all do respect I think you missed the point and conversation which is how to avoid the 150 baht charge that the Thailand Banks are charging to us Expat or any foreigner visiting Thailand.
The key is and there are exceptions but not many! If your CC isn't issue from a Bank in Thailand the % chances you will be charge the 150 Baht.

No, didn't miss the point. I was just adding to what I had to say with helping everyone to save a few bahts, in this case, use the Capitol One CC when using it for regular card purchases to avoid all those Credit card fees involved with a purchase.
And if you look back a few days on the posts, it was I who originally pointed out that everyone was getting soaked because they were using a Foreign bank card to withdraw money from ATM and not a local bank card-I didn't have time to add details then as I was in a rush but this was what triggered the more detailed post later by others on how to open a local account etc.

Can anybody tell me if it is possible NOT to get your passport stamped when entering or leaving Thailand. Don't want the wife knowing I was there!
I don't think it is, but might be wrong since that stamp is your 30 day visa (could be wrong though, maybe there is a way).
They don't scan seem to scan your passport or anything, so a theoretical way of dealing with this is to report your passport lost and get a new, second passport. Then travel to Thailand and have them put the visa in the first, old passport, which you keep hidden when you're home.
Make sure you bring your new passport as well though, or you'll struggle to get back into your own country with a reported lost passport on your return!
I think some Americans would do this when they would travel to Cuba via Mexico?

Say the immigration officer on entry does comply and stamps the paper, how is he going to explain it to a different immigration officer on departure? The chances of pulling that off are next to 0.
Normally I would never recommend Philippines over Thailand but if Saudis are not allowed to visit the Center of the Universe they should just go over there.
Why not just get permission from the saudi government? Is it that hard? Do they refuse permission? Why so? I have seen Saudia aircraft at BKK airport. Surely, if they don't want their people going there, they would not fly there?

not sure about in saudi, but i would think that tampering with your passport (by removing a page) is a crime in most western countries which would at the very least result in your passport being confirep001ed and some sort of exclusion being imposed on future passport applications. saudi penalties are probably even harsher.

My only suggestion is to do what I did once (which only works if you are in transit to somewhere else), and buy a rubber stamp and inkpad, and use that to smudge the entry and/or exit dates. It only takes a tiny bit of ink to obscure the date. DON'T put a great big splodge on it. You can then claim to your wife that Thai immigration always stamps your passport when you are in transit, and that you did not actually stop in Thailand. You can probably get away with it once, but after that you are stuffed. :(

In today's world passport and Visa fraud are serious issues. If you mess with your dates, and you do happen to go through immigration again and they see an irregularity then you're gonna get questioned. Now can you talk your way out of that? Maybe but maybe not. I got questioned because they could not find my last exit stamp in my passport as it is so full up.
There are serious penalties and fines for messing with passports and countries take a dim view on altering your passport dates. And I don't even want to think about what will happen if you try to get someone to not stamp your passport or stamp a blank sheet or such.

I'm not certain about Thailand, but in Turkey, Cyprus and Israel you can definitely get your immigration stamp on a piece of paper rather than in your passport. Typically it is to avoid Iranian nationals from having a stamp that shows you were in Israel. The Cypriots and Turks are aware of the sensitivities and are willing to stamp a piece of paper rather than an exit stamp if someone is going to Israel. The Israelis are willing not to stamp in either direction and then the Turks and Cypriots are willing not to stamp upon entry from Israel. I don't know of the Cypriots and Turks will do this as a general practice if Israel is not involved, but it does seem like something which is possible. Perhaps someone around here knows an immigration officer they can ask. ;)

I wouldn't do it whilst in Thailand, as they will almost certainly look at your entry date. But you can do it as you return home, and I don't believe that next time I come to Thailand they will be scrutinising my passport to examine the exact dates of my previous previous trip.
If they did question me I might just say the immigration official in Copenhagen dropped his rubber stamp on the page...
Anyway, I agree that you don't want to mess with your passport in any other way as the penalties are very severe.

That is correct. They never (unless you specifically ask) stamp your passport either on entry or on exit from Cuba. Your tourist card, which is in two sections (arrival and departure) is stamped instead.

I have seen quite a bit of discussion about ATM's and credit cards.
If you coming here on vacation or for an extended stay, then you will be far better off using cash or travelers checks. Most if not all quality hotels will supply an in room safe. You can also use the house safe and will be supplied with a receipt when you leave money in it.
If you use a credit card to pay for your hotel as an example, your credit card company will charge a 3% fee for using it outside your country and virtually every Thai company will charge an additional 5% fee. So an 8% fee in total will be added any time your CC is used.
All ATM's I know of are now charging a 150 Baht fee, although a few have mentioned here that don't. I don't believe that will last too long. In addition your US bank will charge a fee from $2 to $10 and in many cases 1% of the amount withdrawn. It gets very expensive.
If you're coming here for an extended time, before you leave your country you need to set it up with them to do wire transfer via the telephone or internet. Almost assuredly you will need to use the telephone, I have not heard of any banks you can do international wires over the internet, but I am sure there are.
Then open a Thai bank account and wire the money in. This will provide you the best exchange rates and lowest fees. If you use your Thai banks ATM's there are not any fees. If you use another banks ATM's the fees are 20 to 30 Baht.
I used and E*TRADE debit card at all the ATM's. I was able to pull 20k Bhat out and the 150 Bhat fee (equiv $4) was refunded to my account with no additional fees on every ATM machine I visited. E*TRADE will refund all ATM fees foreign or domestic if you have the right account. The conversion rate seems to be spot on the Interbank rate you see published on the web.

I called E-Trade, they said they charge for foreign ATM withdraws. What kind of account were you speaking about?
I used and E*TRADE debit card at all the ATM's. I was able to pull 20k Bhat out and the 150 Bhat fee (equiv $4) was refunded to my account with no additional fees on every ATM machine I visited. E*TRADE will refund all ATM fees foreign or domestic if you have the right account. The conversion rate seems to be spot on the Interbank rate you see published on the web.

It is my understanding that you must own property in Thailand to have a Thai Bank account. At least that was the case with me at my bank (savings account). I would be curious to hear from others here on that subject. Sorry if that info is already here somewhere I didn't bother to look; just stating my experience.

The one farther down second (away from walking street) on the left hand side of the road, Sabai Sabai Soapie is like the name or like that.
The two names are almost identical but this one was reported more liberal then the Sabai Land (white colored house on the side of the road by the shopping center).

Well, it was several years ago so maybe things have changed since, but I've been able to open a bank account in Thailand then showing only my passport at a branch of the Bangkok Bank. At that time, I was only a tourist and the only address in Thailand that I provided then was the address of the hotel where I was staying! It was a very easy and quick process (half an hour approximateley) and I got a Bangkok Bank Premier ATM card too.

About a year ago I opened an account with Siam Commercial Bank, at the branch in Jomtien (corner of Beach Road and Soi 4). I just needed to show my passport,
A few months ago I also opened another with the Kasikorn Bank, also in Jomtien. Again just needed a copy of my passport.
Seemed very straightforward in both cases.
The SCB gives you a Mastercard ATM card, Kasikorn give a Visa ATM card.
Not that I regularly use these cards outside of Thailand, however I have on occasion needed to withdraw some cash and I have found both worked every time.

The Cypriots and Turks are aware of the sensitivities and are willing to stamp a piece of paper rather than an exit stamp if someone is going to Israel. The Israelis are willing not to stamp in either direction and then the Turks and Cypriots are willing not to stamp upon entry from Israel. I don't know of the Cypriots and Turks will do this as a general practice if Israel is not involved, but it does seem like something which is possible. Perhaps someone around here knows an immigration officer they can ask. ;)
Please be specific when you say Cyprus as the goverment controlled area of cyprus will NOT stamp a piece of paper, only a passport but the Turkish controlled area of the TRNC ( Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus ) will which is another reason that most all countries except Turkey dont recognise the TRNC as a country. Cyprus and the TRNC are 2 seperate places.

The two major ones are Central Pattaya, head down 2nd Road, pass Pattaya Klang or Central Rd, as they call it. Head towards the Big C, or if you know where the famous Soi 6, is located.
Just before you get to Big C, you will see a white building on the right that is the first one, if you walk up 2nd Road from the first one towards Big C, you will see the other one across from Big C, you can't miss it, the sign is huge!

This would be Sabailand Body Massage. It is right on the corner of 2nd Road and Soi 3 next to a disco/gogo bar. The address is 102/1 Soi 3 North Pattaya. We arrived there today at 1:20 and had sessions. There were about 10 girls in the fishbowl at this time. The damage was 1600 baht for 90 minutes. Soapies are not my thing. Once you have had one then the novelty is gone.
There is one more soapie in this vicinity. As a matter of fact, if you blink you will probably miss it, as I did today. It is called Sabai Dee Body Massage. The address is 435/52 Moo 9, Pattaya 2nd Road. Big C's address is 78/1, Moo. 9, Pattaya 2nd Road. The lot numbers look far away for some reason but it is really only a stone's throw. At 1800 baht this is the 3rd cheapest soapie in Pattaya.
The fourth soapie is Heaven which is on Sukhumvit. The address is 149/352 Moo 9 Sukhumvit Road. Going down Central Pattaya Road as if you wanted to leave Pattaya, you would take a right onto Sukhumvit. Heaven is located on the left, directly next to the 7-Eleven you see after you make the turn. Sessions here are about 2000 baht.
The fifth and only other soapie that I know of is P.P. Body Massage. It is off of 3rd Rd. The address is 92/26-28 Moo 9, Soi Jirapol, Pattaya 3rd Road. It is the most expensive. This is the one that has one price for the girls with blue tags and another for the girls with red tags. They have brand new rooms in what appears to be a new four-story apartment building right across the parking lot from the main building where the fishbowl is. If you get the more expensive girl you get to use a new room. If you get the cheaper girl you have to use the old rooms in the main building.

Been a long time since I was in Pattaya however a friend on ISG wanted to visit for two days to see if he would enjoy the location. So being a good friend I said OK that it would be acceptable with me that I’d go have sex (with girls) in Pattaya for a while.
We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon and stayed at Bay Walk Residence suggested by an ISG member and we got a good rate. The rooms were OK, deluxe suites and had a good couch arrangement that was L shaped and made for perfect monger positions, multiple different positions. We made plans to meet with an ISG member that night and meet up with him on Soi 8 at Sailor Bar which had great drink prices and food prices. From there we went over to Walking Street. Overall impressions… I’m still not sold on Pattaya. You have to be in the right frame of mind to take pattaya and you need the right hotel. Pattaya is all about Sex, to me the town was created for sex and it feeds off sex. This is not a bad thing, there are a lot more bars then other places and more girls. You can find everything you want, I wanted girls that could perform and I found it. My friend wanted a porcelain princess and he found what he was looking for. It is a hell of a lot cheaper then BKK of course but the girls are not better, in fact I think the girls are more into the game and it is harder to find the right match.
There are just too many options and areas, and many girls would try to bait and switch, agree to LT and want ST later or such. I think the girls know the game better and you can get rolled easily in Pattaya is my opinion. However as it is a town about sex I like how the people treat the girls better. In BKK anyone who works the sex industry is shunned and an outcast immediately. In Pattaya they are more open it appears and I like this as I hate people who treat other people like they are lower then them.
Needless to say it will require much more research to form a proper opinion. The unfortunate thing is that I already have the next visit booked and am trying to figure out how to squeeze in some time for Pattaya to do more research in the name of ISG members….

Actually, there are 3 soapies in the general area of the Big C, all on 2nd Road.
Heading North from Central Road, the one on the right, or East side of 2nd Road, about a block before Big C, which is an ornate white building with 4 columns in front, is Sabai Room.
There are 2 on the left or West side of 2nd Road: the first one you come to is called Sabai Land, and it's recognizable by the sheet metal covering the entire front of the building. It actually looks like a warehouse, but it's the real deal. It's directly across the street from Big C.
Just a little farther on the same side of the street, the left or West side, is Sabai Dee.
Although certain members have favorites, my experience has been that it depends more on the girl than the soapy parlor itself.
BTW, there is another soapy on Walking Street in the Diamond Beach Hotel on Soi Diamond. There are big signs all over that point to it.
At this one, however, you just pay a house fee (last time I was there it was 700 THB), choose your girl, go to a room, and must negotiate the price with the girl. If I remember correctly, the papasan told me that generally the girls ask for 1,000 THB, so I was prepared to spend that amount. But when you're already in the room the girls get cocky and start by asking MUCH more than 1,000. I was there only once, and the place was old and musty, but the location is great for tourists that don't want to stray too far from Walking Street.
Surely not as good a business model as the 3 soapies on 2nd road. I much prefer to pay the all inclusive price at the other soapies of about 1600 to 1800 THB, and not worry about negotiating while almost naked.

After sessioning at the soapie today my wingmen and I had lunch at Big C. When we walked into the restaurant I saw that the hostess was a ladyboy. We checked the price of jetskis from Joom who runs her business on the beach right across from the temple. She said the big one is 1000 for 30 minutes and the small one is 700 for 30 minutes. We got her to come down to 900 for the big one and told her that we would return tomorrow to take her up on it. Then we headed back to the hotel for a nap.
We woke up at 10:30 to go to Walking Street. We headed to Insomnia where we were given 50% off drink coupons upon entering. The club was dead. The waiter told me that about 2am it would liven up, but the drink coupon was only good until midnight. We went to 7-Eleven for juice then bought kebabs to eat while standing in front of Lucifer watching the talent go back and forth.
