As to the Russian tourists in Pattaya: They are just an oddity. There are a lot of great beach destinations in Thailand where you can take your girlfriend or wife and family and have a great winter vacation. Pattaya sadly is not one of them. I can't understand the mentally of a family vacation in Pattaya.The main reason this happens is because Pattaya is the most affordable place to send tourists to experience a beach and the sea. They're sent there despite the fact that Pattaya is what it is. In other words, they're tricked into it. They go expecting some kind of tropical beach resort area akin to Phuket, and get Pattaya in all its glory instead. The people running these tours are marketing to tourists from developing countries (China, India, Vietnam, etc.) and their market niche has much slimmer profit margins than western tourists who would go to Phuket or islands instead. If you were in one of these countries, you would see it. Generally the Thailand tour offers the option of going to a sea resort, and that is always Pattaya. Do not underestimate that Pataya can be rateed as the beach of Bangkok (always for the tourist agents) : in one hour or so you can arrange the group goes to visit the big cit. So it is an additional excursion they can add to make money (and it works the other way around for the metropolitan tourist: go to Pattaya for a day / night trip)
Thailand is triopical Pattaya sounds exotic, Pattaya beach (for those who did not see it) sounds the perfect match.
They land in BKK (no need of connectiing flights to Samui or Phuket, or take the more expenisve flight options to Phuket, unless it is a charter flight, but you have to out together at least 250 each time) , a bus transfer and you are in "heaven".
Till I started to hang around in Thailand a couple of times a year, I also thought Pattaya was a possible (legitimate) tourist destination.
Now I know I will not go there for tourism and beaches. Unless you plan to go further on, past Pattaya.
So for mass tourism and, pardon me, low budget travelers, Pattaya is the ideal destination.
Low budget travelers are also not looking for sophisticated destinations to add culture and insights to their experience. A beach, warm temperature, sunshine, beer, bars where to hang out at night, cheap international food (nothing from you rown country, but nothing local, just a mix of everything) in debatable restaurants where food goes by price and pciture on a plastsified menu, is all what they are looking for.
If to all this you add the sexual services one can find in that places, you add more visitors (the professional mongerers) with a legitimate reason to go there:
"where have you been?","Pattaya, Thailand, don't you see it from my suntan?","oh, lucky you!"
Those who never been there will be impressed, thinking the guy laid on a tropical white beach, under a palm tree, semi-deserted, and drinking fruit cocktails.
If the palce would be only a mongering destination, people will look at him with weird eyes (if he will ever mention where he has been) thinking "this guy must be a sex tourist".

A few yeas ago I heard that the Russians were coming because of tour packages as you guys have said. But think of it. You get out of Russian winter with warm weather, beach, and beer and vodka. If you were in Russia during this time wouldn't you want out. Ant the Russian economy has gotten better over the last 20 years.
As far as Russian businesses opening in Pattaya. It is any different than the Japanese in Bangkok or the Japs and Koreans in AC. If their countryman go there somebody will try to make a buck from the mother country boys.

I guess you don't have to make up covers for close friends but in my case I make up coverstories / lie mostly to my norwegian GF sometimes my boss. I don't go so much to Pattaya though but a coverstory is a coverstory even so.
In general keep the coverstory as simpel as possible so atleast you can remember it yourself. If you have to make up a coverstory for a GF I am sure you also know girls remembers as elephants.
You have to remember what to do with your cellphone atleast if you lie and say you are in another country. I. If you just have one passport hide that one. But as I understand you you just don't want to admit you to Pattaya? Then your aim should be to get rid of all the evidence from Pattaya (hotel vouchers, and toiletproducts from the Pattaya hotel and so on). If you are lying as I am sometimes it comes in handy to have dual passports (2 passports). Sometimes I have to go to arabic countries and even Iran and stamps from I. E Israel does not let you into Iran. So I have 2 passports (my need had to be confirmed from my employer though). My gf does not know that because my hidden passport is also my monger passport.

She booked a tour to Thailand / Cambodia using all her savings, for her this was a hugely extravagant expense. The tour put them in Chinatown in Bangkok, often took them to jewelry shops and malls where they'd be let loose for shopping time (I'm sure there were kickbacks for this) , to some major sites in BKK like palace, what Po etc. Kanchanaburi was on the itinerary for one day trip. And Pattaya a few days, where they saw a lady boy show (?) , went to the beach and of course yet more souvenir shopping. The Cambodia leg? Koh Kong casino, not even 1km inside the country, for a short day trip, then back to Thailand. To make that seem like a legitimate tourist expreience, they had Khmer dancers perform for them at the hotel / casino.
Middle class people I've met in Vietnam have told me about their own trips to Thailand that had similar itineraries. One VNese friend of a friend even got hit with the jet ski scam in Pattaya for $600, which is devastating for someone who saves for a few years to be able to make that trip. I can't wait for one of those jet ski guys to pull that on the wrong Russian mafia thug, end up strung up on a light pole.
p.s.: Dear Jackson, the spell checker on the forum is a bit overzealous. It automatically changed the name of the most famous tourist site in Thailand from its proper spelling/capitalization to the word 'what' all lower case.

I have travelled and punted with some of my best buddies for years and some of them are wilder and crazier than I am. But I understand from bitter experience that appearances have to be maintained for certain straight laced business associates and conservative family members. Onlyu have to be careful on the background noise. First time I went to Thailand, officially I was in KL. Got a call from home when I was on the beach and the daughter of my friend was about to shout my name in the back ground. I quickly moved away. Difficult to explain why somebody in KL was calling me, with seawave noise in the background.
Always call home first, taking advantage of time difference, saying you soon go to bed) so that you do not get a call whilst you are in a bar with the noise and shouting in the background. Do not answer to calls if at night you are somewhere naughty, you just have to say you went to bed early. And if a girl is diving in your bed before you pick the phone just say "home calling", she'll keep quiet.

Sheesh. But can I really expect them to know any better?

every country has own phone regulatory authority. this authority provides phone channels for themselves and for other phone operators too. when some one dials using generic country code and the voice runs through the generic channel than the receiver will get the original call destination has been dialed out. and it was the standard way was in practice since from the phone service was born.
now a days there are some other phone call in practice, is called voip. voice over internet protocol. it's a cheap phone service and in every country has legal or illegal providers doing huge business. they using various channels provided by the phone operators for voice routes. it is very simple and easy method for a known person using simply a high speed pc with internet and some ip (s) (provided by the phone operators). they handle millions of voice channels just throwing them in their convenient low cost routs available that time. that's why some one receiving a phone call in his bed while he was rimming a pussy in pat, showing unknown numbers or a number from malaysia. when he hear the voice from other end, he shocked and immediately pulled out his finger because, it was his wife from home in another country.
it happen just bcuz, some one used cheap call service instead of using straight generic country code. or the phone operator from any part diverting the phone calls to any voip service. off course you can not call back in this numbers because the voip providers using the sim you can call dead sim. these are used for call generation only not for receiving.

When I leave out of the house to go to Beach Road I bring 500 baht. I will bargain for 300, but pay no more than 400 if absolutely necessary. + 100 for short time room (PS shithole) or 120 if I go to the short time room on Second Road.
The ones at the crack shacks you can just give them 200. They will probably accept 150 truth be told.

Hi All,
I am planning my first Thai trip in the last week of September. I will there for 1 week and want to have fun with Thai girls. After reading thru the reports I decided either Phuket or Pattaya. I would like to settle down at one place for the whole week rather than traveling in between the trip. I am right now in favor of Phuket as after reading thru the forums I got the impression that Phuket is more relaxed and have younger girls, unlike Pattaya which is more business oriented and have women in mid 30's. My preferences for this trip in order are quality of girls (young and personality) , good Thai restaurants and some shopping. I am OK with paying premium prices if the quality (both girls and food) is better. In a high season I would have gone to Phuket as quality of girls will almost same every where. Being a low season I need some advice. Let me know if any of my impressions above are wrong and please suggest which one to go for on my first experience of LOS.

(this is thailand!) : if the girl does not like you, she will quote a high price as a polite way of saying "no". if you take her up on her offer, you have just bought yourself an expensive starfish. agogo clubs are best to "sample" the wares: for the price of a ladydrink you get her attention for a while and can see if you are "compatible". don't be shy but tell her what you want her to do. these girls have heard (and done) it all. soi 6 is a cornucopia of female charm. it is mainly for st only, but at those prices you can afford to miss once in a while. again, offer the girl a drink, go inside the bar, check her out and if you are a match, go for the room upstairs. if she was really good, try to persuade her to go with you next day on an lt assignment to your hotel.
as to shopping, pattaya has some nice malls: central plaza is quite good. do try out their food court in the basement! royal garden plaza is smaller, but not bad either. their food court is upstairs, quieter and more up-market (read: more expensive, but still good value). my thai gf likes to shop in royal garden plaza as they have more thai brands of clothing and shoes. but if she wants books, she drags me to central plaza. one place to avoid is mike's shopping mall: full of fake brands and actually more expensive than royal garden plaza.

Visited a few, best ones, Silver Star, Airport and Heaven above, worst ones, Alcatraz and Happy (some years ago, was much better) , in all of them you can find the young and beautiful girls, but of course, you pay much more. Got a 21 yo girl from Rhino, very nice, very beatiful, but it was 3. 000 baht LT, and 600 BF.
In general, I agree with something it was written here some days ago, you still can have fun , but if you are looking for young and beatiful girls be prepared to pay a lot.
I have been crossing Beach road almost everyday, I never asked for a price essentially because average quality is so low I wouldn't go for free. I already saw 4-5 doable girls, but it wasn't the right timing.

In Jomtien we got stopped twice and were told they would not accept a US kicense, just an International drivers license. Both times we told the Jomtien Police we would like to pay the fine on the spot. Both times they accepted a bribe. We paid B100 once abd B200 the second time. I hate crooked cops but we saved time and money by paying the bribe.
Be careful out there.

A license from any country will do even if it is not endorsed for motorcycles, as you stated was the case for 2nd Road and Beach Road. Next time ask for the ticket and tell them you will go to the embassy with it.

I have booked my first trip to LOS. I have had P4P in my home country but never abroad. I have been reading ISG like the Pope reads the bilble for quite a while so I wanted to make a trip to a monger paradise.
After research I found out that the only viable option for me is Pattaya. Travel time to the Caribbean or the Phils are just to much (22h+). To Bangkok its 10, 5 hours.

You don't really need to go to the embassy. You just threaten the police with it if you are sure you have been stopped without justification. Then they will back off you. And where ever you go, if you speak the language, when the police stops you then you don't speak the language. Get it?

I obtained one back in 2000. I got it from AAA just like you said. I think it was $10 then. It was just a little gray book. I don't recall my picture or anything in it. When I got to France trying to rent a car and showing off my international license they told me to put that crap away because they didn't need it. Since then who knows what happened to that thing. I have never tried to use it since.
I was with some guys in the bowling alley last week and we were talking about the driving test in Thailand. One guy had an international license and it seems they give you a card with your picture on it just like a regular license now in addition to that booklet. A couple of those guys are going through the Thai process now. It seems like everyone has had to do different requirements and none of them passed the written exam on the first try. I never had to take a written exam. I only had to do the color blind test, and the stopping distance test. Since I have a driver's license from the states and it has a motorcycle endorsement on it I am able to have both the car and motorcycle licenses in Thailand which are separate.
In addition those guys have had long waits at the driving center. I have always gone up there about 11am. I submit my paperwork for the license and the lady tells me to come back for the tests with the 1pm group. I go over to the window and pay the insurance and tag for my motorbike. Then I go get lunch somewhere and come back for 1. I go upstairs and line up with everyone because the tests are done together in a group. After that they take my picture, print the license out, and I'm out of there by 2pm.

On its own it has no value, it always has to be together with your "real" drivers licence.
The Thai Consulate in the UK provides the following guidance:
An International Driving Licence is required for most foreign persons wishing to drive in Thailand and must be accompanied by the Driving Licence issued to them in their country of nationality or residence. A foreigner is allowed to drive in Thailand for up to 6 months on an International Driving Licence after which they must obtain a Thai Driving Licence.

Not taking sides! I can't dispute any of this technical stuff about a International driver license being a translation or what the UK Embassy defines a International driver should be. I can only tell you the benefits of having a International driver license and how it applies in Pattaya.
To start I have a A Class California Driver license and added a few years ago a motorbike license from the California Highway patrol school. I also have the following endorsements, Haz-Mat, Airbrakes, Class A / B training and aircraft towing certification. I have been using a International Driving License from AAA since 2001. The price for one of these now is $30. 00 with a picture taken by them. Since 2001, my license has always had a picture the clerk will take your driver license and look at your class any endorsement and they will stamp using a AAA (red) only what you qualify for so if you don't have a Motorbike license they will not stamp your International Driver License book if you don't qualify. I will get back to this area in the end! I have been in Pattaya now for over 10 years and have a Thai car driver license but don't have a Thai motorbike license I use the International Driver License. Personally getting the car license was a headache and just thinking of having to get the motorbike license at some point gives me nightmares having to go through the B. S. That waits me.
When it comes to Pattaya, there are two standards one for Farangs and one for Thais as most of you know? And personally there are two parts to Pattaya, the tourist side which I consider the Beach side and then there is the Darkside which is the otherside of Sukhumvit. In the ten years living here I have been stopped over 30 times throughout Pattaya on my motorbike and paid only three fines all for violation on the tourist side. Each time the violations were justified by the police even the one when I went down Soi 5, the wrong way pass Midnight. The guy was hiding under a tree! Most likely trying to make his kids tuition which comes in May and November. On the Darkside there are many checkpoints these are mainly after stolen bikes, drugs, illegal immigrants from Cambodia and Laos. In my stops, I pull out my packet of information which includes the bike ownership, the registration. A copy of my passport with my visa and place my International Driver License Book right on top! NEVER IN THE TEN YEARS BEING HERE AND STOPPED HAVE I EVER BEEN ASK TO PROVIDE MY CALIFORNIA DRIVER LICENSE TOO! Each and everytime just the book has been acceptable no matter where I have been stopped in Pattaya. To be honest I personally believe 99% of the BIB can't even read the book. I get a book once a year and it is stated in the front "Good for one year from the date of Issue"
Last, year I dropped my kid off at school in the morning in Naklua, on the way home going down Banglamung there was a check point on both sides of the street. The guy pull me over started talking Thai to me. I spoke back to him a little in Thai, pull out my packet same process as always but this time once the guy saw my International he took it and ran across the soi and show it to the Farang tourist who they had stopped and I guess he didn't have one and didn't know what they were asking of him. The guy actually ask me if he can keep it so he could xerox my book so they can use as a sample. I smile, and told him I'm in a hurry but got his station location and his name and I made a copy and brought it back down to Banglamung station.
I get stopped a lot on the Darkside, not because I look like a Farang but once they find out that I'm not Thai and a Chinese American all they want to do is practice their English with me. I've been stopped so much at the checkpoint there is always someone that stopped me before and they even remember my name at times. Each time my International has been good enough again never have I provide nor have I been ask for my California Driver License! My cousin also has been coming here for years and stays for months, he gets a International but doesn't have the area stamped for Motorbike operation. No problem. I took a bar of soap and crave out the AAA and got a red ink pad and stamp the book for him. I am thinking of making my first visit to Pattaya. I am an experienced monger with many trips to Bangkok, going back many years, but have not had the chance to get to Pattaya till now.
My main query: Can anyone recommend a girl friendly hotel in Pattaya close to the action, with good, COLD, RELIABLE air-con? I am VERY heat sensitive, so this is, for me, TOP PRIORITY, even more important to me than distance from the action, although what I would really want is a place with good cold rooms, right in the middle of things. I do not care about noise, breakfasts, or anything else or any other amenenites-just a COOL (and reasonably clean) room, to fuck and sleep in only! I'm willing to spend more in order to have a cold room-I am NOT looking for budget accomodations UNLESS it is certain that they can provide cold rooms! So, zero stars or four stars or anything in between are all acceptable, provided that they can fulfill my temperature requirements! Please let me know if you have any suggestions?

White. In my own culture I'm referred as a Banana (yellow outside white inside ). Once stop and open my mouth particularly in the tourist area they too try to extract money like I was a ATM. My neighbor in the beginning thought I was Japanese, now they refer to me as a farang behind my back. I have some advantages not much?

when it comes to driving rules here the guidelines are pretty much the same everywhere in the western world, flashing red light means stop and proceed. at the crossroad you mentioned which i pass everyday it means since it was built secondary to the road like siam or nernphawan it takes a backseat even though the toll roads have a flashing yellow. i once ask a thai who has the right of way for a flashing red versus a flashing yellow? she laugh and told me " up to you " so when driving regardless my motto is always proceed with caution? when you have police that drive exactly the same way as everyone who is doing the offending nothing is ever going to be done because they don't really see the problem. one has to ask what is their priority? a farang bargirl passenger with no helmet or a kid speeding down that soi at 80 km / h. thais, has no understanding about keeping their distance, double yellow line, solid white line, how to park when to park, they can drive straight and fast but have no skills. have anyone ever wonder why there isn't any 4 way stop signs. i personally would hate to ever see what would happen if there were?
there are rules here and if you want to get technical about the rules you are going to fail the motorbike test. it is a game. the sooner one learns to play it the sooner you will be happy? it is a mind game in a mine field. no different than mongering for pussy here?

Problem is, there are probably 500 of these shops in Pattaya, and it's impossible to figure out which is which without a lot of trial and error. Could someone point me in the direction of confirmed locations that offer extras of one sort or another, or at least hints. Obviously I will go with places with curtains, but even those are plentiful. Also, what's the deal with "body scrub", anything like a table shower elsewhere (Korea / USA)?
I tried the place "The Best" recommended by TomJackin across from Soi 13/3 but didn't score any extras, even when asking. She said "we don't do that here, sorry. Walking street is a few blocks away, many boom boom!"
I realize there are tens of thousands of other options ST / LT, and I have been partaking and will continue to do so. But haven't scored extras in any of these little massage spots yet, and I just want to experience it.

Put your self in Soi Buakhao in front of a subway store, cross the street, and in the corner I think is Oasis Go Go club, now turn right, on that street you will have several massage shops, first two or three, have young girls, I think I was in the 3rd one, from the moment I entered I knew special services were going to be offered, at the time, it was a threesome (read my report 3 weeks ago) , also in oasis gogo if U-turn right, and imediatly turn left there is also a massage shop in the beggining I know it offers special services, if you just look to the young providers you understand what I am saying.

Because most the Japanese, Koreans etc. Thais that meet like for example at the go go's speak their native language. When Thais meets me and they ask me what am I, Japanese etc. I tell them I Chinese American. They are surprise that I was born in the USA and continue to not believe me many times thinking I was born in China and then immigrated to the USA When I'm at the bars even having coffee and conversing with Americans, Brits. They stare listening because I'm no different that a white farang except my skin is different color.
In the end, ask your girlfriend whether she expects the Japanese, Koreans, etc. To take care by dispensing cash like a ATM which is expected from a white Farang?

One hint is don't go in asking for a Thai Traditional massage! You want a oil massage. That is a hint to get a girl that does it which usually means you get naked after you take a quick shower. The Jasmine Hotel down at the end of Soi BJ was a spot of relative quiet in the mess of Wakling Street back in November of last year.
I note that a new gogo, Bada Bing, has set up there recently. Is it noisier now? I assume Bada Bing is at the end of the soi nearest WS?
Now I come to think of the pros and cons again, a point against it is the fact that all the rooms have cooking facilities and there's only one exit, so a fire risk. Anybody care to recommend a similar place that doesn't have that problem? I. E. Cheap, not too noisy, close to walking street?

I've stayed in seven or eight hotels in Thailand. BKK and Pattaya, and never came across aircon that's not cold enough. Too cold, very often, but never too hot. I guess it is common for it to be turned off when you're not in the room so that it's hot when you come back, so perhaps that's been your bad experience in the past? If so I'd say start with one of the higher end girl-friendly places and then experiment with a less expensive hotel if you want. As long as it's not the peak of the high season when rooms are scarce you can always crawl back to your safe cool haven if it doesn't work out.
I spent a month in Pattaya in March / April and then went back in mid July for another month. I only did a partial trip report for March / April due to internet connection issues. This time I stayed in four different hotels and will comment on them in the hotel section.
I started out on Soi 6 and stayed at Queen Vic. I planned to stay there my entire trip, but issues with the front desk * one morning had me demand my money back and checked out by 11:00 am with no reservation for another hotel. It was a Sunday morning and the manager was not there.
I wanted to hook up with several ladies on S-6 that I had been with in March, but Oy from 3 Angels had moved on and I attempted to hook up with Hom from Route 69 bar, but I was busy when she called me and she was busy when I called her, so it didn't happen. I will say that both of them were excellent when I was with them in March / April. Hom gets a little loud when she has an orgasm. Although I never bar fined Nam from Goodfellas, I wanted to this trip, but she was back home while I was there.
Before I left QV, I went to a bar that is on 2nd Road near S-6. If you walk toward 2nd Road and go right it is the first bar on the left. I've been stopped many times by the Pattaya traffic police and been obliged to pay 400 baht fines for various infractions such as no Thai driver's license, no current registration, no helmet, no insurance, etc. It's a pain in the ass to have to go to the police station to take care of the tickets, but I still don't want to go to the trouble of getting a Thai license. I try to avoid the cops as much as possible by keeping my eye out for them.
Lately the cops have been manning a small police box on Jomtien Beach Road just south of my condo on the route to my regular laundry shop. For years no cops were ever there but now they seem to be there every day looking for farangs for violations and tickets – and, of course, cash. I can avoid them only by taking my laundry early in the morning or after 5pm. Otherwise, if I see cops there I have to take a long circuitous route to the laundry shop of at least 10 kilometers to avoid the check point.
Today I looked for but didn't see any cops so I headed off toward the laundry, but just as I passed the police box a cop jumped out in front of me and waived me over where there were 3 other cops hiding in the shade. Shit. They had me dead to rights so I just relaxed and decided to make the best of it.
After a bit of friendly banter back and forth in my broken Thai, during which I told them I was from America but have lived in the condo down the street for the last 5 years, they asked to see my license. I guess the point of all this is that you never know what is going to happen when the Thai cops have you in their clutches, but if you remain relaxed and friendly and maybe speak a little Thai to show them that you respect them and their country, you might be surprised when they let you go. That's something the farang volunteer cops will never do.

Beach road was very popular for low season. I picked several ladies for LT. One named Mai, was a spinner type, but was not that good in bed. All the others were good, but not great. Next time when you are about town and you see those vendor carts selling fruit get yourself a fresh coconut drink. Have them crack open one for 10 baht, coconut has much greater strengh.

My basis is experience. Before I had thai car and motorbike licenses I have been stopped with and without my license from the states. I have been with friends when they were stopped and other friends have told me about when they were stopped.
You don't really need to go to the embassy. You just threaten the police with it if you are sure you have been stopped without justification. Then they will back off you. Am no doctor but if I get this (and I have a seriously bad exploding backside around 5 times in 20 years) I just drink lots of water. Flush the system until bascially you fart water and then eat dry toast and a banana.
Also sometimes a flat Coke / Sprite (room temperature) works as does drinking the water from boiled rice (not the rice itself).
Eating anything or drinking cold water / drinks is just going to make it worse until you have got the bug from your system IMHO.
The above always works for me but again am no doctor and try to avoid medication unless really desperate (eg amoebic dysentry that I have had twice in my travels!)

And yes they have the proper minerals to add to yopuir drink also at the pharmacies- just explain to them. They are better than you think.

The International Dirving Licence is "merely" a transalation (the book consists of many pages, one each for a series of languages) of the original one, endorsed by a public authority (the one in charge of driving licence in each country) It carries the number of the original national licence, your photo and it is validi between 12 and 18 months, depending on the International Convention (there are 2 ruling this subject) applying in the visiting country (I. E. USA will not accept International Driving Licences valid for more than 12 months, whilst other countries, applying the other Convention will accept a later expiry date). Of course to release the IDL, your authorities require a photocopy of your own driving licence and probably will check in the system you have that one.

I was drinking whiskey on the street the other night, LATE and a motorcycle cop in full uniform with gun and all would stop in every so often.
They do what they want, when and where.

He came into town wearing a Tin can hat like John Wayne saying there is a " new sheriff in town " In spite of all the talk about Internationals drivers licenses and how valid they are in my opinion they just happen to have a cash cow drop into their lap by accident. Very few tourist actually come with the intent of driving here particularly a motorbike so the % having a International Driver License is very slim. Allover is beating himself up for not reading the fine print and yes everyone should but actually how many do. If having one is so important one would assume it should be cleared by the rental establishment to make sure you have one by visually asking you to show it before the bike is release. And we all know that isn't what is happening because they would all be out of business if they actually follow the law! Aside from the license how many of you actually know that you don't actually have insurance for the bike if it is stolen?
You will see many Thais pull over but from my experience very few actually have a Thai driver license. They are pull over for no helmet and through inspection for a Thai they are checking for immigration status and current motorbike registration to verify ownership. For Thais they are more concern about other things aside from the license and although they are fine they pay less that what a Farang would pay. Many don't even have car driver license or insurance and if stop they pay normally 200 baht and off they go! Many barely can afford the gas to run a bike, or replace a light bulb on the bike so paying a fee and going through the process when they aren't even residence in Chon Buri.
If you come and rent. Expect to be stopped put it in your budget as part of the expense of mongering here but don't beat yourself up thinking it is us that is the problem? Whether you are walking or riding you are still a ATM.

After all this discussion about driving license I though I would add an interim off topic report on sex in Pattaya.
Arrived yesterday and checked into my hotel.

ThanksOfficially it is the end of the rainy season then, but last year there have been terrible rains all the time up to November, causing massive floods in North and Central Thailand. On the other hand, I have been to Thailand last year and this year in April, May and June which all are officially in the rainy season and hardly saw a drop of rain, except for a few thunderstorms which lasted a few hours only.
As everywhere, the weather is getting unpredictable and more extreme. Climate change anyone?
BTW, thunderstorms are a "good thing". It makes Thai girls afraid, so they come close and cuddle up to you. ;)

I think the wet season is a little over dramatised. Most of the days you just have one downpour for an hour or so.
Rest is fine and sunny and warm. Sometimes a little humid though.
Went couple of times in Oct: Fine, even during the bad floods from the north.

October and November I have found to be the best time of the year although I live here year round. In all the years living here I have heard the complaints and worries about rain but personally it is a non-issue! Unless you are spending hours and hours on the beach and got to be out all day and night it rarely rains for more than a straight hour or hard as they say downpour. Last year yes it did to my surprise nearly 12 hours straight all night until 10am in the morning but that is very rare. Weather seem to be changing year after year. However I have had a change of schedule, so would have to come during High Season this time. I mainly go to go-go bars. Would it get so busy that it would be uncomfortable?

Officially it is the end of the rainy season then, but last year there have been terrible rains all the time up to November, causing massive floods in North and Central Thailand. On the other hand, I have been to Thailand last year and this year in April, May and June which all are officially in the rainy season and hardly saw a drop of rain, except for a few thunderstorms which lasted a few hours only.

But your best bet would be Tony's Gym, he has several throughout Pattaya with daily rate etc. His biggest location is on 3rd Road and Pattaya Tai, down from Tukcom or Soi Buakhao. As for American football? Everyone here seem to like Soccer as for myself waiting for the NFL season to start.

There are many choices there especially on the 5th and 6th floors. It is located between 2nd Road and Beach Road and I think between Soi 8 and Soi 10. On 2nd Road near Soi 6 is an Italian joint with good food. A lot of people like 18 Coins on Soi Buakao. If you are going up Soi Diana, then go right on Buakhao and it is on the right. Kiss Food at the corner of 2nd Road and Soi Diana is good too. Soi 7 has a Mexican food joint that is good. If you are on Beach Road go up Soi 7 and it is a little ways up on the left. There are so many, you will see places almost every where you go. Just stop in and check them out. Others may respond with some ideas too.
Beer bars are everywhere. Check out Soi 7 and 8. You may want to check out Soi 6. Not exactly beer bars, but worth seeing. It is not a very long street and has bars on both sides. I've had 2 plastic surgeon friends examine where it was done they all agree the work was excellent. No one else knows including my current gf (and now I guess everyone here, heh).
I sent a friend to the same doctor to revise some botched cheek implant surgery performed in the US. After examining him the doc told my friend he didn't think he could improve it. My friend did not agree and told him he wanted a second opinion (he went to Thailand for a fix and by God he was going to get it). He evidently got a doc that in 5 minutes told him he could revise the surgery. It turned out like you'd expect and he had a THIRD surgery once healed back in the US. Luckily doesn't look bad but what a hassle. Ding-dong!
