The bus station is not out of town and there are songtaews waiting for every bus arrival, which charge 20 Baht for any destination along Beach Road. The big bus is a lot better than being crammed into a sardine can van. The bus from Ekami leaves every 20 minutes or half hour depending on the time of day. In the busy holidays they send them out back to back.You are allowed to just come out and say you prefer the bus from Ekkamai. This topic is a matter of opinion, not a matter of fact.

It's always good reading to know all the different modes of transportation.
Everyone has their own opinion of stress, value, budget, comfort, and sense of adventure, IMO I don't think there is a wrong or right answer to whatever transportation vehicle they desire.
I see great value in taking public, bus transportation.
Private vehicle & Taxi is a lot more expensive but it gets you there with the least amount of stress if you're not familiar the area.

you can doubt all you want about the 20 minute times saving. i have done the trip both ways numerous times and the taxi does not get you more comfort. it gets you marginal convenience and marginal times savings. my intent in replying to this bull shit in the first place is so newbies understand that the bus in is fact not a bad choice. do not stay home because some know it alls tell you you have to take a taxi. when you arrive by bus a baht bus will either take you within walking distance of your hotel for 20 baht or take you to the door for 50 baht. public transportation is a good thing.another one?

PS and by the way, whilst I paid a correct 215 taxi meter fare plus 70 for toll from BKK airport to Soi 2 hotel in sukhumvit, on my return trip from the hotel to BKK I opted for 450 all in paid to the hotel limo (oh well.... Limo is an overstatement, we all know that, it is a Toyota Camry). Sheeeeeet! I wasted the cost of a beer or two in doing that, what an asshole I am. Now I know why I was thirsty when at the airport.

Now that Air Asis flys to D M airport, could some brother please tell me if taxis are as easy to get to Pattaya and goin rate. Previously I have had all trips via Suvahnabumi and know the ropes from there.To Wes.
The best and the fastest is taxi direct to Pataya will cost around 800 BHT, the cheaper way will be take taxi from DM to Mo Chit bus station only 20 min around 140 bht and take the Pattaya bus every 30 min 145 bht to pattya bus station and bht bus to hotel, I am in Pattaya right now and flying airasia on Monday this is the route I will be taking whole trip should take me little over 3 hr from hotel to airport.
Anyone who cannot afford a taxi to Pattaya should stay home and look for a better job.Better take the bus to Pattaya and use the 1200 baht to take a lady when you arrive there.

Shops selling all manner of items sought by expats / farang visitors are ubiquitous in Pattaya. Try Second Road or Mikes Dept. Store.
It's a fairly large city that makes it's living catering to tourists every whim so you will easily find those things.

Shame on you and you probably increase the going prices for the rest of us. Jokes aside. For me it is all about comfort and I order in most cases fast track and limo pick up at the airport to hotel and return as well. Nothing to do about me having more or less money but comfort comfort. And the Limo is in most countries No limo but a ordinary car as stated here a Camry (sometimes better but rare).
For my BKK. Pattaya trips I allways order car upfront with agreed price (most likely 1500 one way) but then with safetybelt in the back. Normal taxis rarely have that. For me it is a big point not having to drag my luggage around (heat) and I want door to door transportation. And I like to crash and travel alone as well so that is pretty much why I would go by taxi rather than some sort of bus.

My buddy will be spending 4 months in Jomtien during high season. He would like to hire a live in for that time. Any help on where to find such a lady and the price would be helpful. He is a youthful 60 years old. On the beach I have seen many Euro's of the same age with "girlfriends" around 35 - 45 or so, for weeks at a time. Myself I am still a working stiff who can only put together 8 weeks and I like the variety of hitting Walking Street most nites, although a certain cute spinner at Baby Dolls keeps me company a couple days a week. If satisfactory, informally contract for whatever time period is required and set clear financial guidelines. Non-performance is a cause for immediate dismissal. Start over with the above outline, never throw good money after bad. He could follow this program daily if so desired.
Make copy's of all her ID. If something untoward happens you have the info the police will require to locate her and redress your problems.

OK. Here's what I think. I think he has time to shop for this when he gets here. Do a lot of auditions. Price? Good question. I'm guessing 20, 000 or more per month plus he pays for everything, food, phone cards etc etc etc. Also 9 out of 9 will try to play him in some way. If he cares about money it might be good for him to decide in advance what this is worth to him and where he'll draw the line. Just my opinion, but I don't think the issue will be finding someone but finding someone who will not try to bankrupt him and takes good care of him will be the challenge. The less experience he has the happier he will be. There's also the option of advertising for this on CL but that might attract the kind of person who would have her Thai husband throw him off his balcony after getting his atm details.
Just my opinion about how things really work here.

Does your " live in " mean your friend expects her to just clean and cook or are we implying the added duty of f-king him?
Based on your remarks he is a youthful 60 years old and like them around 35-45 or so, in my opinion the older they are the price should go down certainly if they look their age which means less customers?
Certainly picking one must be only be done after he has seen and been with her. It certainly would not be wise to hire one and have them meet you at the airport to take care of him hand and foot? As noted, By C4, if he was a wise old man he would take some time and do auditions before selecting.
As for only 10, 000 baht plus food, I'm not sure but lets not rule it out. It would as noted if she doesn't have a place to live and staying / sharing with a friend and she isn't getting barfine etc. Along with not having a kid or any immediate responsibility. Most likely it will be somewhere in the range of 20, 000/30, 000 thereafter you have to worry about her honesty and trust that when its time to leave she doesn't leave with your stuff before you come home?
Good luck, tell your friend he's 60 now! Go it alone the headache isn't worth it unless he ends up finding a gem?

Finding someone truly unemployed and available might be just dumb luck. Unless he pulls from beach road and then who knows what kind of package deal that is. Actually that part is true for anyone. Still, I think he has reason to be optimistic as some gal will view him as a long term sponsor and do everything she can to play the long game instead of the short game. And as LBM says, there could be a big difference in the perceived value of a 45 yo vs a 35 yo. Lot's of my short time adventures are in the 35 yo range and those ladies are making easily 20, 000 per month and many of them more than that.

I admire your generosity. I assume (perhaps wrongly) that you arrive at that figure by extrapolating from your usual fee per day. Girls working the beer bars are making maybe 3-4, 000 B monthly if they make their drink and bar fine quota. Many are lucky, in that age range, to pick up more that a few BF a month. A hot looking 35 yo in a go-go could reach your estimate easily if she was an outstanding performer. Still, all said. 20, 000 B for a month of on demand sex toy action is a bargain. 714 B daily (28d mo) seems to be a more than fair deal if you resist the gold dealer trips and the sick relative ploys.
Be cautious always when Thais talk money as they often equate that with status and like to give the impression they are big-time girls (same as many punters). Don't get the impression that they are only that way with farang. The only people they lie to more than farang are other Thais.

JoshNah, I'm just guessing. I do most of my mongering in BKK and still mostly do 1000 baht short times and some 2000+ baht at the PSE massage places.
I do hope that G&T reports back on the results. I'm sure prices for this will fluctuate far more than they do in the usual P4P venues, which is considerable.

I've seen what some of the go-go girls get for 1200-2500 baht. They are filthy dumps with absolutely no amenities. On top pf that most of them have roommates and they all sleep in one bed, (usually just a thin mattress on the floor) often in shifts. Their clothes are piled in heaps on the floor as there are no places to hang them. They are used to living like that and it's probably better than what they have on the farm in Isaan.
If the go-go girls are living like that you can imagine how the beer bar girls, street vendors and shop girls must live; no doubt in hovels with common shower and toilet facilities for an entire floor of tenants.
No wonder the girls think all us farangs are rich.

Bed, tables, T. V, A / C unit and a hot water shower unit. In Pattaya, the prices from my experience is pretty close to 1500/3000 baht all depending on the area for just a empty room (studio) no hot water and no a / see. The lower the cost the worse it looks, many 1500 baht rooms do not have a sit down toilet. Every baht must be look after so if they are working girls, most likely you will not even see a refrigerator, they have 1 fan, and roll up mats and sleep on the floor, no tables, no sofa, even if they aren't working girls just a small place like this is very common for a Thai family to live in with 4 to 5 people. The less one pays the worse it gets from my experience. Many Thais are just slum lords!

The main risk with live in gfs is that you run the risk of having live in children that you have to raise and send to school, college, etc. As well. Be careful.
I went to the Eastern bus station on Tuesday to get the bus to Pattaya. As soon as I got there I was guided to the ticket office by a tout. I paid my 130 assuming it was for a regular bus, and went to look for it. The tout guided me to a white minibus in the first bay. Seemed a good deal so I got in and waited for it to fill, which did not take too long.
The problem was when we got to Pattaya. We stopped on the main road which goes the length of it, at a filling station. The tout, who had come along, claimed it was the bus station and dumped my case on the road. All the other farangs. About four. Were told to get off.
There was only one pick up waiting, and a few taxi motorcycles. The pickup driver. Large and aggressive like the tout. Demanded 100 each to take everyone to their hotels. That was bad enough, but he wanted it in advance. I was so pissed off I negotiated with a moto for 70. So by risking my life I saved 30 bhat. We made it to the hotel, balancing my case between us, and I paid the driver when we got there. It was quite a way.
Obviously the minibus driver has a deal with the bhat bus to meet in the middle of nowhere. The lesson is to always do the opposite of what touts recommend. But I was wasted after a night in Bangkok, and not thinking clearly.
In general the bus is a good option. It is easy to get to the Eastern station from the SRT. The lesson is to get the regular bus, which is run by a company which can be found on the internet, and goes to their station in north Pattaya.

Mine is 4500 shower and balcony, air conditioner, free internet (which other buildings wanted 600 baht for). I have to pay electric and water as well.I forgot to mention that the building was built in February 2006. We have a pool table, some picnic tables, video games, a pay water machine. 2 washers and 1 dryer downstairs at the entrance. There is also a hair salon and a lady who cooks take out / delivery orders. Cable is free as well. A TV came with the place but I gave it back and bought a 32" flat screen Toshiba for 10000 baht at what was then Carrefour. We also have an elevator and closed circuit TV so you can turn to channel 79 or something and see who is at the door downstairs. You have to have a keycard to come into the door and security is there from like 6pm to 6am. The building is 5 floors and the tenants are young Thais (pretty much all female and a couple of gay guys), a couple of guys from America such as myself, a couple of guys from Europe, and a couple of guys from Africa. I think most of the farang who stay in the building have a Thai gf who lives with them.

I went to the Eastern bus station on Tuesday to get the bus to Pattaya. As soon as I got there I was guided to the ticket office by a tout. I paid my 130 assuming it was for a regular bus, and went to look for it. The tout guided me to a white minibus in the first bay. Seemed a good deal so I got in and waited for it to fill, which did not take too long.
The problem was when we got to Pattaya. We stopped on the main road which goes the length of it, at a filling station. The tout, who had come along, claimed it was the bus station and dumped my case on the road. All the other farangs. About four. Were told to get off.
There was only one pick up waiting, and a few taxi motorcycles. The pickup driver. Large and aggressive like the tout. Demanded 100 each to take everyone to their hotels. That was bad enough, but he wanted it in advance. I was so pissed off I negotiated with a moto for 70. So by risking my life I saved 30 bhat. We made it to the hotel, balancing my case between us, and I paid the driver when we got there. It was quite a way.
Obviously the minibus driver has a deal with the bhat bus to meet in the middle of nowhere. The lesson is to always do the opposite of what touts recommend. But I was wasted after a night in Bangkok, and not thinking clearly.
In general the bus is a good option. It is easy to get to the Eastern station from the SRT. The lesson is to get the regular bus, which is run by a company which can be found on the internet, and goes to their station in north Pattaya.It doesn't sound like a ripoff. You said you paid your money in the ticket office. Only 130 baht. Then only 100 for the baht bus to go to a specific location. The private baht bus usually will cost you at least 150. If you go to Big C you will see a board with the prices for private baht buses.

It's the second window on the right clearly marked Pattaya. 124 Baht. Nearly as fast of a taxi. Never go with a tout (barker) for a bus, taxi or anything else.

The current price is in fact 124 Baht, you should get a slip with a tear off portion and that slip should tell you the time and give you a seat number! Roony Reuang Coach as far as I know doesn't provide Mini Bus, inside the terminal there are some private booths. There are independent touts as you noted that are on the look out for guys like you coming to the station that stick out. Roong Reuang coach doesn't go hunting for customers!
This is a scam in my opinion! I know this area across from the Bangkok / Pattaya hospital the filling station, The Roong Reuang coach makes stops prior to getting into Pattaya and along Sukhumvit but that is at the request of the passenger and not the driver. The final destination is always a right on Sukhumvit into Pattaya Nua to the station itself.
Live and learn the bus is a good alternative in my opinion.

Live and learn the bus is a good alternative in my opinion.LBMI have done the BKK-Pattaya bus trip (both ways) from the Eastern bus station. It was ok, and is how the locals travel. But the cost getting to / from the bus stations and your hotel must also be considered. Plus the waiting time at both stations (with no aircon) can be a PITA.
All things considered I find Bell Travel to be the best mix of price, time, comfort, and convenience. In my experience they run an extremely reliable and professional operation:

Yep, that pretty much sums it up. Pattaya is a Shit hole and mostly due to the lowlives that are roaming there.
I have been there many times for business and I hate the place.
Mind you, anything in the Ban Amphur or Bang Saray area (Fisherman Village) is fine, great beach and nice places. But Downtown Pattaya is just Nasty.
Of course, I agree with Frenchy on his excellent assessment: Pattaya is definitely a 'slum'; anyone living or visiting Pattaya is 'slumming it, ' I. E. 'scumming in the slum'; the place is a 'shit hole' because of all the 'lowlives' roaming around everywhere; and Pattaya downtown is just 'Nasty. '
Anyone who has unlimited cash in his wallet is going to see it that way. Anyone who spends 3000 baht for lunch at only the finest restaurants, who eats imported duck livers for snacks, and will never under any circumstances eat Thai street food is going to see it that way.
Anyone who can afford and always insists upon only the very finest in food, wine, liquor, women, clothes, transportation, accommodations, and services is going to compare Pattaya to his familiar rich man's haunts in Bangkok and invariably conclude that Pattaya is a cesspool.
After all, there is no place in Pattaya where the swell, the wealthy man, can enjoy a 3000 baht haircut, a 10000 baht bottle of wine, and the best of everything else; all of that exists only in Bangkok.
Yes, the wealthy swell sees 'anything in the Ban Amphur or Bang Saray area (Fisherman Village) is fine, great beach and nice places' for a weekend vacation, but only a weekend will do because there is no sex to be found in those venues unless one brings his own. And in that regard, the swell can always afford the best. He doesn't have to lower himself to look in even the best of places in Pattaya.
So of course I agree. If a monger has unlimited funds at his disposal; if his wallet is fat with reams of 1000 baht notes; if he insists on having only the very best of all things, he should stick to Bangkok and stay away from Pattaya shit hole, except perhaps on business or on other occasions when he has no other choice. It's obvious.

I have yet booked / paid for accommodation as yet as I like to go with the flow on most occasions but I know / stayed in a few clean, nice places around walking ST eg galaxy suites and previously I've stayed in Areca and Baywalk residences, which I found were quite nice hotels with good facilities.
But it sounds more to me that your question was more to make a recommendation?

Walking on Beach road around 0400, a paddy wagon [pick up truck] pulls up and police seem to come in from all sides using flashlights herding all the women on beach road toward the pickup.
About 5 minutes later all are gone, and no women to be seen on beach road [some slowly returning from across the street].

Seems a bit harsh. Perhaps unrealistic, I can't see it making economic sense to sit on beach road all night and pay 200-600 baht for the privilege. Perhaps I got some of the information incorrect, otherwise beach road wouldn't have such a persistent population?

My buddy will be spending 4 months in Jomtien during high season. He would like to hire a live in for that time. Any help on where to find such a lady and the price would be helpful. He is a youthful 60 years old. On the beach I have seen many Euro's of the same age with "girlfriends" around 35 - 45 or so, for weeks at a time. There's not much plausible denial they can argue for because they are in the same stretch of beach every single night of the year. Not to mention that unlike foreigners, locals can pretty much identify working girls from their various 'tells. ' They might get out of a few night's fees by making stuff up, but in the end, they just pay up (as the police don't let up either as they have their own financial issues).

If you're on a budget then Pattaya is your town. It doesn't matter where your hotel / guesthouse is, the city is so small, hop on the baht bus and you'll be there in a few minutes. I saved huge on hotel / guesthouse, paying roughly half of what I would pay in BKK per night! Food is cheap too! And the Beach Road girls will complete the picture of perfect monger happiness. Most will go for 500 ST and available 24 hours a day. Really! One night I went to sleep early be / see of hangover and I woke up at 4am and went to BR and viola! I got a girl for 500.
Walking Street is flashy and all that, but it's really geared towards tourists. Next time I would stay away from there. And spend more time on soi 6.
Yes, I would go back to Pattaya.

Years before after loitering whole night in walking street arrived on the Gate at 4. 00 am. Suddenly a slim well shaped girl rushed out from the beach road in front of me. At the risk of highlighting my own stupidity, but in the hope that it saves at least one of you guys a similar fate I will relate my own sad Haloween tale in Pattaya. I've gone into some detail to give guys an idea of some of thh warning signs to look out for.
At around 2pm I found myself down in Walking Street intending to check out a few GoGos and then maybe hook up with someone a bit later. A cute slim girl around 24 approached me from the other direction and asked where I was going. She said her friend and her didn't have anywhere to stay and could they come with me to my room? I asked how much they had in mind. She said 500B which I was pleasantly surprised at at as the normal rate would be 1000B. I said did she mean for each girl, no she said between them as they were tired and wanted somewhere to stay. Though the first girl was a cute petite slim girl her friend, similar age was chubby, dressed plainly was a single mum, but did have firm boobs, she might have struggled to find someone on her own. My main concern was that they would end up saying 500B each but they insisted 500B between them.
LESSON 1: If the price quoted is way below market without any haggling be very suspicious.
They asked where I was staying and if the hotel needed an I'd card. They said they didn't have I'd cards and if I thought they would not be allowed in, better not bother. I said yes the Hotel needed I'd cards but usually I could offer to "guarantee" them and they would be left in so off we went. (BIG MISTAKE)
LESSON 2: The I'd card rules in Pattaya, seem like a pain in the ass, especially as it is often the cuter girls on beach road who inevitably don't have I'd cards. Dudley from Penthouse hotel has been banging on to me about this issue for many years. But I have been too stupid / arrogant to listen. Without an I'd card the police or anyone else has almost no chance of catching these girls. With an I'd card on record most girls would probably be too frightened to commit suchna crime (unless it was fake.) Moreover the more upmarket hotels have a policy of ringing the customer to check if its OK to release the girls before allowing them to exit. I was staying in a cheapish place In LK Metro which though has 24 hour front desk staffing doesn't have this policy.
The girls sid they were hungry and asked to go to 7 11 before we went to the room. They didn't want to eat from the street stalls which most girls prefer and were disappointed when I said I didn't drink beer so we ended up with just some tea, crisps and water. Once in the room, I took a shower followed by the cuter girl who had an excellent slim body. The plump girl found a bag of lichees and started to tuck in then went to shower.
Once we had all showered the cute girl climbed aboard and was highly proficient, the plump girl also played her role using her surprisingly firm boobs. In general I was pretty happy with the experience, Afterwards the plump girl fed me a couple of rambutan mouth to mouth, they tasted not 100% right, but I thought maybe just a bad lot of rambutan. As I didn't have anything to drink, I can only think that she managed to somehow spike the rambutan before feeding them to me.
They said they would like to stay the night, so I turned off my ipad which had been playing and put it in my suitcase, locked it and put the key in my trouser pocket in a high wardrobe cupboard. Normally I am a light sleeper, particualrly in this type of situation but I must have fallen asleep within a minute. Next thing I knew was about 2pm the following day when housekeeping called to see if I wanted the room cleaned. The girls had gone, and I went to check my case. It was locked but when I opened it there was now ipad, camera, GBP cash, PHP cash, Android pads in all around USD 2000 worth of stuff was missing."Fortunately" they had left my 2 laptops, and metal cashbox where I keep my passport and credit cards. I felt very groggy for quite afew hours, almost unable to walk straight and not thinking too clearly. Of course without their IDs the hotel had no interest. Because I am on a long trip I don't have insurance though in theory I have some limited insurance from my Credit card company I'm not sure if is valid for long trips however.
So in summary, I'm pretty pissed off. Of course it could have been much worse, no physical injuries and they could have taken the laptops, cash box with passports / cards and my newer camera but that's scant concilation for such a big hit.
I have never liked the bar fine system in Thailand and have typically gone for freelancers 95% of the time this works out fine, but this was certainly one of the remaining 5. I think one way to look at the bar fines is as something of an insurance premium against this type of incident.

The girls sid they were hungry and asked to go to 7 11 before we went to the room. They said they would like to stay the night, so I turned off my ipad which had been playing and put it in my suitcase, locked it and put the key in my trouser pocket in a high wardrobe cupboard. Normally I am a light sleeper, particualrly in this type of situation but I must have fallen asleep within a minute. Next thing I knew was about 2pm the following day when housekeeping called to see if I wanted the room cleaned. The girls had gone, and I went to check my case. It was locked but when I opened it there was now ipad, camera, GBP cash, PHP cash, Android pads in all around USD 2000 worth of stuff was missing.Come on GL. Try putting it between the liner and the trash can or behind a picture that is on the wall next time. As you said, it could have been worse (a lot worse).Yes I hadn't been drinking or taking anything else so you are right that what in the cold light of day looks like a series of reckless decisions has to be put down to thinking with the wrong part of my anatomy. One is used to the idea of people getting in trouble with ladyboys or perhaps obviously "rough" types but (and it should be a lesson to all) this girl looked very sweet, innocent and spoke quite good English, whilst her friend was a little chubby spoke quite basic English but was friendly enough. But of course the most successful thieves don't look like thieves. I have had similar situations where it was getting late and girls did just want to come back for the night for relatively small money just because they didn't want to go back to their room for some reason but this should have been the big warning.
I have checked some of the emails I sent to various people the day after and I was typing absolute gibberish and I can remember not being able to walk properly so whatever drug they gave me must have taken the best part of a day to wear off so if anyone does find themselves in a similar position try and find someone you trust to keep an eye on you for a while afterwards as I was probably quite vulnerable to further theft / accidents during that time.

I will be on the lookout for those two crooks.Sadly I'm not insured so I'm not sure there is much to be gained from reporting it to the police as the description that I could give could fit 1000s of girls in Patts. I also only learned in retrospect that one can implement various security measures on an ipad such as Find My Ipad, lock or wipe the data remotely. If anyone is travelling with an ipad this may be worth looking into BEFORE something like this happens, though I guess if they are real pros they will reformat the thing PDQ after stealing it.

I alway use a Combination lock for my suitcase. They are more secure and you don't have to worry about losing your key or some picking the lock. The TSA locks are find for the airport but a lot of Non-TSA workers have they master key to open these type of locks.

these approved tsa locks, keys or combination are just that approved for them to open and inspect your luggage without loosing a lot of time. the combinations are pre-set by the manufacture usually to 000? 0. i use one for procedure sake and set it at 0000, for if they select my bag they can just open it, when i get my bag i look at the lock and look at the setting, if the number have moved then i know someone has enter the bag? if tsa opened it, it is standard procedure to place a slip indicating they have inspected your bag. if one isn't there the chances is most likely a baggage handler checked your bag? that i would be more worried about.
as for gl, rule is if it is too good to be true then it is exactly that? you are right about everything your wrote about yourself. you might want to be more consistent with how you protect your stuff, so many contridictions like you making sure to lock you ipad? and such in suitcase but have a small metal box with you prize possession laying around. you got date [CodeWord123] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123) drugged buddy, regardless, crooks, time is important remember don't keep everthing in one place, split your possession, and bring along only two credit cards only for backup with limits, keep the card information like numbers and contact separate. if there is a room safe, check to see how it is bolted down and don't use your birthday as the combination.
i know many of you guys might be on business and some just like their toys. the older the more we have and more expensive but coming with 2 laptops, ipads, when the only real toy you need is a vibritor? its too late to report but you might want to still contact the tourist police and let them know what happened? they might want to contact some of the money exchangers in the area which all have camera's. at some point they will try to make the exchange for your usd? if not already.

TSA has a key to open TSA approved locks. You will see a little keyhole on the bottom, if it's a TSA lock. Otherwise they cut it off. They don't mess around with the combination. They don't always put a note in your bag after inspection they've been doing that less frequently.

ThanksPrices are quite a bit lower in Thailand and especially Pattaya than they are in Korea or Japan so why would any such girls (apart from perhaps a few very specialists) come to Thailand and compete against thousands of beautiful Thai girls for a fraction of the money they might earn at home? So forget about them and try local Thai girls. There are quite a few Russian and other Eastern European / Eurasian girls in Pattaya because there are plenty of Asian / Arab customers with a taste for white girls who are prepared to pay a big premium for a Caucasian girl.

I'm sure they thought about taking the smaller laptop. Actually the metal cash box is quite small, but it's disguised as a fat book which may have saved my bacon because if they had taken that they would have got my passport and credit / ATM cards and I would be in a much worse situation. Of course it would have been even more useful had I taken the trouble to put my cash in it. Live and learn. It just cost a few dollars and isn't going to deter a serious thief, but has proved a good investment for someone who travels around alot and stays in cheapish hotels. I initially got it when I lost $400 cash from a hotel security box in the Philippines: at least it provides an additional layer of protection from crooked staff who have access to the master keys / default pin codes of hotel security boxes / room safes and are tempted to syphon off some of your cash.

In fact I've been doing this for the last 2 years, in Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines [Housekeeping gives you weird looks, but says nothing]. Note that some airports [Thai specifically] don't consider chains carry on items, so either check it in or buy one when you arrive [very cheap for 5 foot of chain].
Its more secure then the room safe since the hotel doesn't have direct access as they do with the room safes [Ever lose the combination? I've had most hotels open the safe within a few minutes of calling front desk]. The hardest part is finding a secure pipe, bar, etc that is convenient for normal luggage access. Did actually cause a problem once, was in a hotel in Subic that flooded the hotel called me to ask permission to move my belongings before the water subsumed everything [Waterproof luggage saved the day].

I have worked for a major airline for nearly 30 years and have been involved with TSA after it's creation. As you know many of the airport TSA are different. In S. F. Every station inspection station including the one's you don't see below the terminal all have camera especially right where the bag is pull and searched. When I travel home and back to Thailand, if I'm paying, I load up for the year and max out my lugguage capacity, once I noticed my bag was searched but no noticed and the approved lock was still there but the combination numbers were moved. Due to all the stuff I had not sure if anything was missing? Now I make a list and a copy for myself and place it inside the bag basically to screw with their heads. I spoke to a buddy who is now a TSA official who is now in charge of TSA Northern division and the procedure is to put a slip for every bag inspected. If your trip is short and you feel your bag has been inspected and no slip is in sight you can request a review by TSA.
It should be noted that just because your bag was gone through doesn't mean TSA pulled the bag. The baggage agent for the airline could have gone through your bag? I can give you a dozen ways a agent can do that without anyone knowing? If as noted by you " less Freguent " you might want to notify the originating airline you are traveling with!

ThanksThere's a couple of Korean booking clubs in Pattaya but the girls are all Thais. Light skin and made up or they make themselves up to mimic the appearance of Korean / Japanese girls but if you're not Korean or Japanese you won't get into these clubs. You probably won't want to pay what they're charging anyway so yea, stick with the locals.

Those are all locked away permanently in the room safe (which I assume to be safe). My other valuables are a phone, a camera, an iPad and a laptop. Losing my work laptop would be a big deal so I should really lock it away, but I don't. The camera, phone and iPad tend to be in regular use, so typically wouldn't be locked away.
I guess if I was taking a girl from Beach Road I might be more likely to put the latter items in the room safe. Anyway, a very timely and salutary lesson. Thanks for posting.

From time to time you get too technical, if knockoff is what you want to call them but if you ask 9/10 passengers standing in line waiting to go through CAS, I serioursly doubt aside from you any other passenger will know what you are talking about or calling them!
SFO, as you know is one of the few cities where TSA is contracted out! But all the rules pertaining to TSA still applies to the the contracting firm. SFO, whether you like it or not is consider one of the best in regards to how they handle passengers traveling through. All the trimmings uniforms all have patches of TSA!
Now through the years I have myself inspected my share of bags not for illegal reasons but while loading bags I feel or hear a vibrations. If time allows I will open the bag lock bags mean nothing, locate the vibrations for security reasons and usually it is a shaver. Like a good guy I turn it off. When it comes to vibrators the Japanese are the biggest purchasers of any race I have ever seen? I've seen bags break open and man the passenger got so many of time they could open a store themselves?

The chain is strong, yet fits in the palm of my hand. The hard case has no zipper, it locks and is very secure and the carry-on bag is locked also with a 4 number combo lock. A thief would have to break the chain (bolt cutters) or carry both bags out chained together which would be difficult and suspicious. If it is convenient, I also wrap the chain around something secure in the room and takes less than two minutes to set this up. It may be extreme, but it works and would give any thief second thoughts. I like the look on the faces of the ladies who see that set up.
I wonder how much or little pressure / force it would take to pop that cable out of that cable type lock? Probably not an issue with a bar girl.

Thanks for the post I have been getting far too complacent recently and it is a needed wake up call. I remember being drugged in Venezuela, I only lost a couple of hundred dollars or so but I was so angry that I had been suckered, had a serious bad head for a day or so. I tried to find out what happened from a girl I was friendly with who may have actually been in on it, she told me they use a straw and dip it in the dope or stuff they use then put the straw in your drink take their finger off and it is in the bottom of your glass allowing it to mix etc. The girl I was friendly with did help me home and paid the cab then looked after me for the next 2 days. I went back into the bar where it happened looking at the people there trying to spot a guilty face, everybody was very friendly maybe more than normal but I couldn't decide who was guilty.
The other time I was suckered, I was having a blow job in the car. I paid up front and put my wallet in the side of the door and laid back, the blow job was good but she didn't seem to be giving the wee lad full attention. Dropped her off with a smile on my face but she had a bigger one.

Stayed at Dynasty as recomended by Jmac. Great location. Can go to walking street or soi 8 area in few minutes on the busses that go in circle for 10 baht. Took door girl from Manderian two nights. 3000 baht. No english total lover experince. You'll find enough girls on offer in Phuket, though at a higher price than Patts and BKK.

Before anyone has a rant about paying £1000s on flights etc then worrying about a mere 500Bht, I pay the going rate whatever it is and don't want to inflate prices by being taken advantage of. I said 900 and I pay highway. He said okay. At the first toll I gave him a 1000 baht bill. When he got the change from the toll booth attendant he tried to give it to me. I told him to keep it. So price from airport to Pattaya. 1000 all-in.
The other night going to the airport I went to my regular taxi stand lady and told her same time same place. The price was 860. When the driver showed up that night in a Toyota Camry (I have been picked up in BMWs, Volvos, vans, and regular taxis as well) it was the same routine. I gave him 1000 at the first toll booth and told him to keep the change. The ride between the airport and Pattaya is a commodity. I don't see a reason (although I know many people do) to pay anything over 1000 baht all-in since that price has never been refused by a driver. When the bus is running during the hours that I'm going back and forth then that is my first choice. It drops me off right at home and takes the same amount of time and only costs 200 baht.

Beach Road:
Women are around all day, but you have the most selection from 9pm-2am; Mostly women in their 30's and upper 20's with a bit of padding. I've seen one or two Beach road girls to my liking but rarely. Sometimes girls from gogo's will hit beach road if they have a slow night after their clubs close, so may be worth a stroll at 3am. Busy nights are Thursday-Sunday I believe. Note there are many LB's on beach road, when in doubt simply ask for identification. Beach road prices can be haggled down to 500 short time, and up to your chemistry for long time.
Go-Go's:
I prefer gogo's since you can see what your getting, and no surprises. I've visted nearly every gogo in my short time in Pattaya, more OCD then anything else. I'm a big fan of this gogo map:

Gogo's on walking street charge the most, gogo's just off walking street charge a bit less, gogo's away from walking street are the cheapest. I'm stupidly picky and find one girl per 10 gogo's that I want to take home:
Clinc [85 on map] has a bunch of cuties, and they have a short time room upstairs [Clean, ensuite shower, no hot water, one complimentrary condom].350 for shortime from bar, negiotate with the girl for tip. Barfine is 600 normally.

There are many other gogo's half the fun is the exploration, since they are so concentrated you can just walk in, have a look and hit the next without a great deal of committment. AMy advice is to not worry so much about a presence of LB on Soi 6. Go see for yourself and if you decide to have a good time there I expect you can find an attractive woman to help make that happen. There are posts about FL in the discos if you dig a little deeper.

When you fly into BKK, walk down to the ground level and follow the sign out the door to the taxi stand. The official rate for a taxi from BKK to Pattaya is 1050 baht. The girl at the stand will ask you where you are going. When you say Pattaya, she'll write 1050 be on the dispatch sheet and give it to you. No negotiation, no rip-offs, and certainly no tips (this is SE Asia, not the United States). These are licensed, official taxis, and this is absolutely the best way to go. I've done it ten times in the last 2 years.
Have the phone number of your hotel because the taxi drivers speak little no intelligible English, can't read the Latin alphabet, and don't know how to take directions.

When you fly into BKK, walk down to the ground level and follow the sign out the door to the taxi stand. The official rate for a taxi from BKK to Pattaya is 1050 baht. The girl at the stand will ask you where you are going. When you say Pattaya, she'll write 1050 be on the dispatch sheet and give it to you. No negotiation, no rip-offs, and certainly no tips (this is SE Asia, not the United States). These are licensed, official taxis, and this is absolutely the best way to go. I've done it ten times in the last 2 years.
Have the phone number of your hotel because the taxi drivers speak little no intelligible English, can't read the Latin alphabet, and don't know how to take directions.

Once I used front desk security, lost the key to my personal safe box and the lad on the front desk found a duplicate in a drawer in less than 30 seconds.
Thieves are opportunists. I find a combination padlock secured suit case with an electric cable tie the best solution if I stay in dubious hotels.

My 2012 Fall Trip
Part V: 4 nights in Pattaya.

A room safe is an incentive for those with intentions to do harm. I always pick a hotel with safety boxes in reception. I just use a room safe for small change.All room safes I have encountered had electronic locks with a 4-digit safety code you chose yourself.
Three wrongly entered codes and the safe can only be opened with a special key from the front desk.

ThanksThere are no vaccinations absolutely required for Thailand. I got tetanus and Hep A & B vaccinations last year and probably will get rabies vaccination next time.
If you do not have the hepatitis shots then be careful with the food and always have covered FS. You should be OK then.

My advice would be to keep your expectations low for daytime BR mongering. Maybe there has been some agreement between the ladies and the local authorities to clean up the area during the day for the FLOOD of Russian tourists descending on the beach, because it seems only the hard core SW's remain during daylight hours.

Excellent report and very comprehensive. The only contribution I would like to make is regarding the price. Go-go rates are more like ST = 2, 000 baht and LT = 4, 000. The beer bars are definitely cheaper, the BF is around 300 baht, ST between 500 and 1, 000 and LT between 1, 500 and 2, 000. That aside a very good guide for the first time visitor to Pattaya.
BJIam a frequent visitor, it All depends where you go, plenty of BG's that charge 1000 LT, I have never even been quoted 2000 LT from a BG in Pattaya and they are all smiles when they go home and I get plenty of repeats.
You can find LT gogo girls for 2000, especially outside WS in the LK Metro area. Girls charging 4000 LT Is usually top girls at Baccara or Happy a gogos and maybe Iron club. I left Pattaya a few days ago and as far as commercial quality goes is very poor. Initially bars girls from soi 7, 8 get get for 700bht. As I observed many foreigners had a local girl friend and some looks as couples.

Having trouble uploading reports so this one may upload out of order, went to Diana inn for dinner. The buffet 240baht per head was terrible, I remember 10 years ago it was good but we can't live in the past. here is my best sense of the directions: from what's up go go walk to 2nd road. take a right turn. walk for one or two blocks, no more than three. make another right turn and maybe walk a ½ block to one block down the soi. the place is a large open air restaurant on the left side of the soi with fish tanks and there is a disco in the back behind it. you can't miss it if you are on the right soi. it was not a cheap restaurant, but considering the quality of the fresh seafood and their cooking methods, it was worth it.
mrs. natty asked what i felt like eating. she then took over and interfaced with the waiter. we had som tom, a couple of large raw oysters in the shell – mrs. natty prepared mine with a combination of onion, lime, various thai condiments and red pepper salsa, stir fried squid in a very tasty green pepper sauce, grilled tiger prawns, stir fried morning glory in another excellent sauce and we washed it down with a couple of cold beers. the bill came to something a little over 1200bt. the ambiance was good. it was a big place and at 1pm there were a number of customers rep001tered about, but we had a lot of privacy over in our corner of the restaurant. mrs. natty sat by my side and made sure everything was presented to her specifications. no hj under the table. we are an old married couple lol.

The place is a large open air restaurant on the left side of the Soi with fish tanks and there is a disco in the back behind it. You can't miss it if you are on the right Soi. It was not a cheap restaurant, but considering the quality of the fresh seafood and their cooking methods, it was worth it.The name of that restaurant is Marine Sea Food and it's located in the Marine Plaza on Soi Marine just off Walking Street. The disco is Marine Disco. The other open air place just opposite has great food at a cheaper price.

Pattaya is not cheap at all.Yes, I see prices creeping upwards, the girl's monetary expectations rising and, of course the strength of the Thai Baht = less of the bargain we were getting before.

Thanks ever so much for the additional information regarding the seafood restaurants in Marine Plaza. I'm always on the lookout restaurants of that ilk, especially those that are less expensive than the big places on the west side of Walking Street that cater to the tourists. While the food at those places is pretty good, and the view over the bay is pleasant, the prices are just unconscionable.
After reading your directions and descriptions, I think I've eaten at the Marine Plaza restaurant that Mr. Bumpo recommended, the one with the fish tanks. I will give its competitor a try.
Along the same line, among the food vendors that cluster just east of Walking Street on Soi 14 (or maybe it's Soi 15) there is a guy who sells a decent selection of seafood, priced by weight and prepared as you wish. You'll eat at one of those small tables on the street, among the working girls slurping their noodles. But you'll pay a fraction of what they charge at the Tankay or Lobster Pot. And watching the world go by as you dine is the best free show in town.

Just back in the UK after my visit, here are my parting thoughts. The Russians are there in even bigger numbers than my last visit in October, the Indians have now also arrived in large numbers. The LK Empress where I stayed had lots of both staying there with only a small number of Europeans and Americans etc. Beach road was busy with lots of girls most times of the day.
The best place to hang out was Soi Lenkee and Soi Buakhow this area seemed to be for the "old Pattaya crowd" such as Brits, Aussies, Yanks. Weather was very good, only had one very small shower and plenty of sunshine and will get better over the next few weeks. Paid a visit to Jomtien been a couple of years since I was last there, has improved and grown dramatically I would even consider staying there now or buying a condo.
Walking street is definitely more tourist orientated than it used to be not as good for our hobby. I would still recommend Pattaya as the best single mans holiday destination.

What? That's 500 baht. There are lots of hot Thai girls in their early 20's that will do ST for that. You just have to dig. Beach Road, Soi 6, etc.

The exact same girl would ask for 500-600 baht on Beach Road (if you see her around there) .800-1000 baht in Walking Street, and 1000-2000 in a disco or agogo.
I have never sampled Pattaya so would like to check it for 24 hours during my next trip. I am not a big beach fan so just want to visit it once and check out the action venues.
I plan to leave Bangkok around 1 PM and take a cab. Would love to an early evening session around 4/5 PM (may be massage, FS / CIM) and then stroll on the Beach before checking out some clubs and such for picking up hotties.
Can anyone please spare a few seconds and let meknow the following quickly?
1. Which hotel I should book (something similar to Admiral Premier in Bangkok, safe, not too noise, GF friendly and not too far from beach where the action is)
2. What would be best option to go to for early evening session? The beach road or massage parlours or some pick up joint? Which one?
3. If you would like to sample a wake up call how would you go about booking it? Talk to girls in clubs and get their number etc? Ask Massage parlour for booking?
Will cheerfully appreciate any hints.
