Three big contingents come under this system: China, India and Russia. There is a separate seating area and call out where you submit the paperwork. You will see this are to your left before you get to the gentle slope which leads to the main immigration area at Suvarnabhoomi.

For example the average salary in the UK is about £25K, so I suspect your USA figure is average salary, or perhaps post-tax salary? A taxi driver tried to rip me off by asking 100 baht for a short journey. I was so embarrassed at paying just over £ that I gave him 200 baht. I wouldn't do that again. I am a newbie in Pattaya and learning things from you people. A lot of useful information I can see from your report. I hope I will also add some once I go there in next week. Going through the reports and people experiences I have some queries.

One common problem is to get enough denomination in 10/20 of which they are taking adv by keeping the changes w / o asking. But if they started billing high by adding lady / mamasan drinks also then general cost will be topped up with another few hundreds baht.

Usually this is anticipated through a local agent sending the necessary details. This will avoid the process of the visa at the country embassy in your country.
I use this to enter Vietnam as saves the hassles of sending the passport out. But it can be terribly time consuming if your plane or other planes arriving at same time have a lot of visa on arrival passengers.
Cost wise is the same, even cheaper as there are no courier or agency fees as high as at home.
This depends from country to country and based on bilateral agreements.
Some nationals are visa exempt and just que up at immigration with the filled form and get the passport stamped. It is a visa waiver procedure. Time wise depends on how the immigration boothes are busy and attended.

I talked to a German guy on WS who said he obtained a 3 month visa through this method. $60may be the better deal than having to go to Cambodia on a visa run.

Not sure what the fixed rate is for the public taxi, but I would imagine less than 2000 baht as it's 1500 from BKK and less than 500 between the two airports.
For me, after a long flight, I don't have the patience for public transportation.
When the baht bus goes down Beach Road then turns left on South Pattaya Road, it reaches the intersection with Second Road. Some turn left onto Second Road, some continue straight on South Pattaya Road, and some turn right to go towards Jomtien.
When on Beach Road, is there a way to know which of them goes which direction? It's annoying to have to get off, wait, then pay again.

Using Taxi from DMK to Ekkamai bus station (I think it will be more or less 300bht). And catch a bus for Pattya or Jomtien (136bht or less).

Some of These buses crossing the walking street and enter again in 2nd road. Just drop in intersection of 2nd road and you will find the ques of bht buses departs for Jomtien.

A more affordable option:
- Right place: WS (Walking Street) GGs (GoGos). Alternative: Soi LK Metro (a mini-WS) GGs.
- 12 guys is a big group so if you want to be seated in the same area (not have guys spread about) you need to coordinate ahead of time otherwise end up with crappy seating.
If only staying at one GG:
19:40 Stop by Baccara to ask the manager or service captain to reserve 12 seats for 20:00 (opening time) and you should point out to him which seats you want. I suggest doing your party in Baccara's downstairs, not upstairs.
20:00 Your group (or as many of them as possible) be at Baccara GG as soon as it opens or their staff will mistakenly give away onesies and twosies of your seating area to other customers / regulars who want them.

Taking a taxi isn't really much quicker, and the taxis in Thailand ride like coal-carts (actually all modern cars do) , so the bus is more comfortable as well as cheaper.

For many reason I have arrived in Pat in morning and return back to BKK in end of the day several times. I have been used buses, taxis or own driven car. But I never been experienced the buses get several stops on the way. Just dropping the passengers on their destination with in the city. Even considering these the buses takes time just over 2+ hrs (from BKK to pat). It will not surprising to say that, taxis usually consumed more time than buses, surely more of pretty 20mins. And self driven cars are awful to me only for the over carefulness to be keep safe in long drive. Always I feel safe to travel by bus for longer distance other than using of taxi or self driven car.

Look guys, I really don't care how you travel. I'm just making the point that the hotel door-to-hotel door times, bus vs taxi, are significantly different. The bus is a lot cheaper, and if you're living in LOS or on a long vacation, that is fine. If you are just there for a short break then just grab a cab, especially if you have a suitcase.
As an example, last trip I paid 860 baht for a taxi from Pattaya to the airport, leaving my hotel at 21:30 to catch an 00:20 flight. What time would you leave your hotel to catch a bus to the airport for that flight?

Bus dropped off at bus Station in Pattaya and then changed to mini bus with hotel drop off.
On the way back picked up at hotel by minibus. Moved to a coach in the bus station. Airport drop off.
Think 230 thb each way. If timing suits its pretty good.

Er, that's it.That's my experience as well. Sure, if you only measure the time between getting on the bus and getting off the bus, it's much less. But that's not what counts, it's door-to-door time that's important. And for me, it's a pain in the ass to move my luggage at each stage.
One thing that's not always taken into consideration for the taxi drivers is the annoying stop to get fuel. With all the LPG and CNG vehicles, they claim they have to stop outside of Pattaya. This adds 15 to 20 minutes to the trip.
During my last trip from Pattaya to DMK, the driver went waaaay out of the way to get fuel near BKK. It is annoying as well, but I'd still rather that that take the bus.

I set aside the money to make sure once I get my bags which is 2 large full of stuff for the year I can't be bother with taking the bus. If I do which I have done before I have to pay another 200 baht to get me from the station to my place. Now I just go down to the taxi stand pay the 1500 and I'm off and in Pattaya in 1 1/2 tops. One thing that's not always taken into consideration for the taxi drivers is the annoying stop to get fuel. With all the LPG and CNG vehicles, they claim they have to stop outside of Pattaya. This adds 15 to 20 minutes to the trip.
During my last trip from Pattaya to DMK, the driver went waaaay out of the way to get fuel near BKK. It is annoying as well, but I'd still rather that that take the bus.True. And the other annoying thing is when you hire a taxi at the airport, and after 5 minutes he explains that actually his friend will take you the rest of the way. Not usually a problem, but last trip we had to swap cars standing in the middle of the expressway, on the painted 'island' where the road splits in two. Scary.

Normally get a taxi but last time got Bell bus. Flight times suited. Bit slower than a taxi but pretty ok.I agree I have done the transfers all ways and Bell is my first choice for the price / convenience mix. They are a very professional outfit. ThanksSince this question has arisen several times of recent and there are no gentlemen providing any update, I presume the works on our beloved Beach Road should be complete by October, or if you like, certainly by the arrival of high season; of this I am confident. Been home for a month now and the works were nearing three quarters done end July, when I sadly left for home.
Of our freelancer darlings, enough should be about. I would doubt the works would effect the nightly turnouts, they have to earn a living. No work, no rent.

Not to worry, there are tons of freelancers around. Most are across the street from the construction. Guess you haven't heard the latest? As you know a little over a year ago they spent a ton of money along with all the nature lovers complaining about them cutting or trimming the trees along Beach Road. By doing this the path would now be too hot and the FL, wouldn't have anywhere to sit in the shade? While they were doing this there was supposed to be a study to look into the 3rd lane which they are working hard now to complete which all this stuff is costing millions of baht? I've used his service several times and found it very reliable, even when I needed a taxi in the middle of the night. He has a stable of drivers, so the type of car you get will vary. At the low end, I've ridden in whatever they call the small two-door Toyota in Thailand, which is a little tight but just fine for one person. At the high end I once had a minivan all to myself. Usually it's a Camry-class car.
The drivers are always nice people. If you know your cell phone number when you e-mail Khun Keak to arrange the ride be sure to give it to him. Some of the drivers will call you on their way to the airport and arrange to pick you up curbside, which saves a few minutes and obviates the need to haul your luggage out to the parking lot. I always ask for a stop at the giant travel plaza that's about halfway to Pattaya (two 7-11s!) for something cold to drink, where I also buy a treat for the driver.

Fortunately when I arrived, there was a sign outside saying rooms available 500, 600, 700 baht per night. The building is a walkup, meaning no elevator. First floor up the stairs is 700 baht per night, second floor up the stairs is 600 baht per night, there is no third floor (like no 13th floor in USA) , fourth floor, is 500 baht per night. I recommend that you make a reservation with your request for cheaper price or slighly higher price but on a lower floor.
Towels are changed every other day, liquid soap & shampoo are provided from a dispenser in the bathroom, floor is swept & trash emptied daily. I tip the cleaning boy 20 baht for cleaning the room and refilling the soap that I use to wash my clothes. It is warm & humid every day since my arrival 2 days ago with light rain at night so I'm wearing long swim shorts & a dri-fit shirt to try & stay cool and I just sink wash and it dries in a couple hours.
The shower has in-line water heater so you will never run out of hot water. Soap & shampoo dispensers are pictured. Nice sized shower room for 1 or more people.

Up around noon after a great sleep. Went across the street to get a massage but my first choice was doing a leg massage so was told to come back come back in 1 hour. I changed money at krungsri, a mustard yellow booth that also does Western Union. Some street changers only take cash but I was changing traveller's checks. Original passport was needed. The rate was 31. 56 baht to USD but there was a 33 baht per TC charge so net was 3126 baht per $100 USD traveller check. I think this is still better than getting baht thru ATM because of the ATM fee, unless you have a bank that reverses those fees.
Then I went to Top Charoen Eyeglass Shop on the second floor of the Royal Garden Shopping Center. They are a chain store. Free eye exam with purchase of glasses. I chose the cheapest frames so the total was 1590, about $48 USD and they were ready in about 1/2 hour. Paying by Visa credit card or cash is the same price.
Went back to Sa Thai Massage for another fantastic Thai Massage. 1 hour for 200 baht, tip is optional but I give 100 for satisfactory service. I recommend Tok, she is 32, only 42 kg but really strong and kinda cute.

Don't know the exact names of places but orange shirts, purple shirts and green shirts. Had a regular at the orange shirt place but she wasn't there on my last trip. Beware that ladyboys sometimes work at these places, and they're the shorter / flatter / less obvious variety.
If you want to go lower there are places off Soi Buakhao that go way lower with no real reduction in quality whatsoever.

So, after paying for their basic survival, she is left with basically no money at the end of the month, so NO. 350 / day is not good for Thailand.
If you go back and read the original argument I had with Mr. E, we were specifically talking about the shops where the basic massage cost is only bt100! So already you are getting a 50% discount compared to many of the shops which go for bt200 base price.
Consider this again: a one hour foot massage for US$3. 00. Are you kidding me?

If you want an organizing principle for Thai society, look into 'kreng jai'. It's more subtle and complex than saving or losing face, and it contributes to good things in Thailand as well as not-so-good ones.
Sure there are situations where Thais tip to show off (at fancy clubs for example) , but generally if you ask them why they left a tip it's because they sympathize with the person they're tipping. I've heard it a hundred times from Thai friends: 'He / she works so hard and gets paid so little'.

Last year however, it was OK.
You will probably see some rain every day but that should not stop you from coming here. There is always a bar or club you can hop in to shelter from the elements.

You have to remember that in the case where a hotel employee gets involved, you most likely don't know what she's saying to the employee. It could be something like,"He agreed to pay me 1500 baht, and now only wants to pay 1000". Which might technically be correct, but it only half the story. So the employee may simply be going on misinformation, or limited information.

The problem is that once a price is fixed in Thailand, the Thais take it very seriously. Even if you don't get exactly the product or service you were hoping for, they expect full payment. The flip side of this is that Thais will almost never try to raise a price once it's been set, as for example the Vietnamese like to do. But anytime a girl asks for payment in advance, it's a warning sign.
