Yeah, like you, I too prefer places where the girls are not required to show up (at all. Or at any specific time), not wear a uniform, not be governed or supervised by a mamasan, not have to " sell" lady drinks, or your drinks, can leave at any time, just party and never "Have' go with any guy on any specific day to earn or sell a bar fine, etc etc.

And, I don't feel any pressure, no one is hovering above me seeing if they can sell me something, there is no cover charge, there is a darn good restaurant, with an excellent view, integrated into the place, and I can just focus on being and feeling happy. And, if I want to, I can definitely find a chick. She is not going to sit next to me (I hate sitting) and I can move around and be a part of the ambiance and embrace the totality of the party experience, with the very important added benefit of picking up a girl, on my terms, if I so choose. On the other hand I've read some guys prefer not take girls to his hotel instead of that they prefer rent a room for hours, and that's why I'm wondering if could there be some kind of problem taking girls to your place.

Regards.Normally there is no problems with renting a condo for a month or two. Just make sure you get a contract / receipt that specifies the dates you are renting and confirms your payment of the rent and the deposit.

To pay a deposit is normal as a safety for the owner in case you brake something in the condo. Many renters also want a small pre-payment to secure the booking.

Ask the renter about the price per unit of used electricity. Make sure the condo has it's own electrical meter and read it together with the renter upon arrival and departure. Normal cost per unit should be 3-6 baht. Also don't forget to make sure the condo has free high speed WiFi and also make sure there is no additional cost for water.

Normally there is no problems with bringing ladies to a rented condo, but just to be sure, ask the owner if you are allowed to bring company back to the condo.

The reason why some guys prefer to take a lady to a short time room may be that some hotels does not allow their guests to bring girls back to the hotel, or they charge a fee for it. Before booking a hotel for your stay, always ask if you are allowed to bring back female company without extra charges.

I have reliable friends who rents out condos both in Pattaya and Patong (Phuket). Let me know if you are interested.

Felt I needed to post this as this has to be the absolute poorest run gogo club in Pattaya. Went in looking for the girl on the left or middle of the photo. Needless to say nothing even close there. Sit down and 3 guys in wife beater shirts felt wife beater shirts weren't in style so all 3 of them decided to take off their shirts and run around the club topless like fools. I said in my post I hate dressing up and, in Pattaya, I wear cargo shorts and a pullover shirt with a pocket to keep my reading glasses in. Soi 6 is my favorite. An amazing place. Kinnaree if you want to take a ride out there and figure how to get back. Soi 13/1 - 13/3 has some interesting bars and MPs. I have never BF'd anyone from there, and never really even considered going in a bar there of my own free will, but until my last trip I wasn't even sure if girls were available, duh. I do know at least some have rooms for ST encounters. I had one experience with a MP on 13/1 I believe. It was a bait and switch. Pretty girl greets you out front but does a hand off once inside. You can get extras, such as HJ or JB, possibly FS, but might find better deals and looks on Soi 6, or maybe even in the bars nearby if an actual massage is not your goal. Soapies are interesting, and you have to do a body slide at least once or twice in your life. But my experience with the soapies is the girls are more mechanical and won't do BBBJ. Prices are higher, and you can usually find prettier on Soi 6 even, but a pretty girl sliding up and down on you is fun.

So, I go back to the hotel and maybe though the mind is still saying it is early afternoon, the body wins and I will go to sleep, and I will sleep until the sun comes up. And, just like that, it seems I am then acclimated with the local time and will thereafter wake up by 9 AM, and I will want to sleep soon after midnight. As mentioned, you can combat this (going to bed at midnight) to some extent by taking a nap in the late afternoon or early evening.

But while I can acclimate to Thai time in a day or two without trying, when I go home, it take two weeks! It is a killer.

You are right Pattaya is still one of my favorite place in the world to visit, price of WG have gone up a lot but so is everywhere else in Asia I been coming here for over 20 yr now about 2 time a yr and I never been disappointed not too many place in the world have so many girls and option every more.

For a 3-4 day visitor or a resident who is in and out a lot, it certainly makes a lot of sense. I just have to save 50 baht a day for 10 days to ensure I travel safely, comfortably.....and, privately, without having to share my space on a 1 HR or longer drive in frustrating stop and go traffic, after a long flight (s) from JFK in NYC. I can even stretch out fully in the back seat, if I so desire. And, if the driver brings me a nice cold bottled water and a nice fragrant cold wet towel to freshen up, I'd tip the guy another 100 baht. To me, it's a no brainier, after long, long flights and airports, customs , immigration, luggage and all that stuff....just quiet and peace is worth a lot, IMO.

I make the people who I am renting from arrange my pick up, so that the car service operator, car quality and security is a known ' known' , as opposed to an known " unknown".

And, the condo agent is in communication with driver to know I am on my way. I don't want any delays on check in upon arrival at my Pattaya condo. YMMV.

I would be very nervous if I had that much cash on me. I can walk to nearly any ATM with my bank card and extract the amount of money I think I need for the next one or two days. Same with my credit card, although I will incur some bank charges. I'm Dutch, so maybe Dutch banks are different, but I very much prefer this over going to money changers.

It all depend I take the bell bus if I am by myself only and have one small baggage and I have done it many time but for newbie with a lot of luggage you should just take the taxi, it is a big different paying 1200 bht vs 200 bht.

And ST is Short Time. It will typically be around 60 minutes. You will get typically one release, but it seems many of the girls will give you a full hour so if you release early, they should stay with you a while longer. LT, of course, is Long Time, and typically means overnight. Ask the girl or mamasan when in doubt. I once was told LT would last until 6 am. I said I wanted longer as it was already 3 AM, so the manasan told the girl to stay until 10. Also, on Soi 6 once, I LT'd the girl early in the afternoon but it only lasted until 6 hours, so LT doesn't automatically mean overnight. You can't expect to pay just 50% or even 100% more for LT and get 12 times as much time.

Money, money, money; Pattaya is all about the money. Every choice you make in Pattaya will involve money, and traveling from BKK to your hotel is part of that situation.

Here are some choices you'll need to make:

1. Taxi, bus, or private car.

2. Cheap hotel, moderate rate hotel, expensive hotel, or residence.

3. Street food or restaurant.

4. Cheap restaurant or expensive restaurant.

5. Alcohol or soft drinks.

6. Gogo girls or BR freelancers.

7. Baht bus or Motos.

Remember, everything in Pattaya is for sale. If you pick the high end of everything, you'll be spending a lot of money very quickly. If you pick the low end of everything, you might not fully enjoy your holiday.

The ATM cash withdrawal charges add up. And this is a FX translation spread on top of that, from the local bank / ATM operator to your bank, for us guys who bank here in the US.

2. I don't walk around with that kind of USD. I take a pre- arranged car service to JFK and a pre- arranged car service again from BKK to Pattaya. I walk around with about 5-6 baht maximum.

I pay for my entire stay in cash upon arrival at the condo or hotel. The rest is always in a safe (with some USD spread around outside the safe just for insurance). I have not had any break-ins into the safe in over 25 years of extensive international travel.

3. Recently, ATM's and credit card terminals are coming under greater risk, primarily by organized players (Russian, Chinese, Nigerian, North Korean etc.). As someone with a lot of experience in banking and consumer financial services (from the inside) , I can tell you that the risk of this is increasing (until quantum based encryption arrives). And, until banks and ATM machines are secured 100 PC against cameras and other scanning and automated electronic eavesdropping devices. I try not to use any ATM's other than with my banks and only at their branches.

4. I trust the Thai people and the girls in general, more than I trust the security and software infrastructure of the banks, credit card companies and ATM operators. I will have my credit cards and ATM cards as a back up, however.

My debit card that I use oversea's is a hobby account, same as carrying 3 grand in cash. There's only enough money in that account for the trip and the ATM fee's are refunded. Putting all your eggs in one basket (aka a hotel room safe) isn't the smartest thing to do, youtube has tons of video's showing how they can get into those things.

Fast Eddie 48.I want to again recommend the other bus service next to bell at the airport. Nice buses and receipts for luggage. Courteous staff, cheaper, more often. But most of all very convenient as the last stop in Jomtien is connected directly to second Road Pattaya for 10 bt. The bt bus from the bus station takes you all the way down 2nd Road. I never stay long so I buy the ticket for the way back when I arrive to save hassle later. I get out at Soi post office and find a room there easily for 500-600 bt. 100 m form the beach. Good hunting there. If you have lots of luggage bell might be better, I think you can make reservations online. Often sold out and you have to wait for the next one.

Bad. Bell sent out another bus quickly and the delay was not all that long. This unfortunate experience made me more willing to use them that to take a taxi for safety reasons, as I saw firsthand what happens when bus meets car on the highway.

It is quieter, more laid back and has enough opportunity for picking up a companion in the beerbars or massage places. Mind you, I don't like going to discos (I cannot stand the volume of the noise there) and the Pattaya agogo clubs for some reason or another never appealed to me (which is strange as in Bangkok those are my favorite place to pick someone up).

If I want to have a quickie, I take a bahtbus to Pattya and in less than 20 minutes I'm in Soi 6. So it is certainly not far from the fleshpots of Pattaya.

But indeed, I don't think Jomtien would suit your style of mongering.

When I first came to Patts I used to always stay in Jomtien. At the time I liked it because it was a bit more quiet and because the beach is nicer than Pattaya Beach (which is horrendous). It's also a bit cheaper. I could get a studio apartment in VT 5 with balcony and beautiful sea view for less than 1K baht a night.

But it got boring and I now stay in Pattaya. There was really nothing to do as far as daytime action and the girls are so much uglier than in Patts. It's true that you are a 20 minute ride to Walking Street. But its even farther to get to Soi 6 and other venues. And thought there are some good places to eat in Jomtien (Bruno's, Rich Man Poor Man, the night market) food options are way better in Pattaya.

There are condo complexes in Pattaya like City Garden (where I usually stay) that are quiet and where you can get away from all the noise and craziness, but are still just walking distance to the main action.

I don't really miss the beach in Jomtien all that much either as it isn't all that great anyway. On thing I do miss is having a romantic dinner on the beach. The restaurants will serve delicious Thai food to you right on the beach and that is really nice. The sun setting, waves lapping at your feet and your favorite hottie by your side makes for a great night.

The place is very easy to get to. Take the Baht Bus heading to Jomtien and get off just as Thappraya Road turns down towards the beach. If you've gone past the first 7-11 and the Baht Bus is headed along the beach you've gone too far. There are a bunch of bars there including the more well known Country Road. But I've never seen a girl like that in any of them. 555.

I want to again recommend the other bus service next to bell at the airport. Nice buses and receipts for luggage. Courteous staff, cheaper, more often. But most of all very convenient as the last stop in Jomtien is connected directly to second Road Pattaya for 10 bt. The bt bus from the bus station takes you all the way down 2nd Road. I never stay long so I buy the ticket for the way back when I arrive to save hassle later. I get out at Soi post office and find a room there easily for 500-600 bt. 100 m form the beach. Good hunting there. If you have lots of luggage bell might be better, I think you can make reservations online. Often sold out and you have to wait for the next one.Last time I took bus. It dropped me on some bus station and from there I have to take tuk tuk as there was no Taxi available. The tuk tuk guy also did not wanted to go to hotel directly and dropped me on beach road. I have to take 2 luggage to my hotel.

I think it depend. If you have luggage I would not take bus.

I would keep my ears pricked when it comes to FLs, but if you use your common sense and pick a girl who does not get your Spidy senses tingling, then you should be fine. I've never had a Thai girl rip me off in the regular western sense of the word: outright steal from me. They are supremely honest in that respect. If you get ripped off, it will be in the indirect way: she will negotiate a price that is well above market. And you being gullible and trusting, will accept that price. That's a rip off, but not a burglary, which is what you seem to be concerned about.

You just need to hunker down with a cup of hot chocolate and read and read and read. Rough guidelines: Beachroad should be around 1000 baht (maybe less, maybe more) for ST, and maybe double that for LT. If you find someone on WS, prices will be higher, but I would say you should definitely not be paying 3000 baht for a street walker. You may be quoted such prices, but that is always a starting place for the negotiation. Negotiating is expected, so don't feel churlish or cheap for negotiating. How you do it exactly is up to you. Some people play hard ball and say 1000 baht, nothing more, take it or leave it. And they then walk away if the girl does not come down to 1000 baht. This ensures you stay within your budget, but it means you don't always get the girl you want. Some on this board will disagree with me (that you don't always get the girl that you want), but it's just true.

If you go into a nightclub, on the other hand, you may be quoted some very high prices, like 4000-5000 baht for ST. As the Thai so often say, "up to you" as to whether you want to take a girl up on that. I probably would not, but there are some scorching hot women in the nightclubs and your little head may get the better of your big head and wallet. I would say 2000 baht ST in a nightclub is a reasonable price, though rest assured there will be people on ISG who disagree with me, and you may have to shop around before you get a good looking woman willing to go with you at that price. And here is an important factor: much of the pricing depends on you. If you look good, have the right kind of profile for the women, you will get quoted better prices. But if you are a mess, smelly, dressed poorly, look like a lecher, resemble Trump's cyber hacker (weighs 400 pounds), or whatever, then the prices you get quoted will be higher. So just roll with it and figure it out for yourself.


Also, is it safe to take any girl for long time? I only ask because you are going to be asleep at some point. I mean if I put everything in the hotel safe, is there anything else I need to worry about?The girls are safe. Often the hotel will hold the girl's ID at the front desk as a way to ensure safety. That is, when you arrive at the hotel with your girl on your arm and the sheepish smile on your face, you will need to have the girl hand over her ID to the security guard or front desk person. So if the girl tries to run away with any cash or anything else, she won't get past the front desk. The better hotels will call you when she gets to the front desk and tries to leave and will ask if everything is ok. So that makes it very safe. But if you are in the guest house on WS (never stayed there myself), the policy may be different. But as I said, if you pick a reasonable girl who does not seem hopped up on meth, then you will likely be fine. Put your stuff in the safe (not super secure, I know, but better than nothing), don't leave your $600 phone in plain sight, and hide the gold bars and diamonds under the mattress: you should be fine.

My own view is that Pattaya is a sex-oriented theme park. Let your imagination run wild, let your stress levels ebb, and let your dick run the show. If you see someone you want to fuck, go work on her. Leave your shame at the airport, take plenty of cash, and be prepared to sacrifice sleep for the sake of carnal indulgences. So no, don't limit yourself to massage parlors *only*. The only time I would suggest this would be if you are there for a day or so. If you have 4-5 days, then try everything, my friend. Visit the massage parlors during the day and get your sunshine rocks off. Then visit a soapy in the evening to get your dusk rocks off. And then hit the beer bars or FLs on beach road for your nighttime rocks. And finally, to take the edge off, visit the nightclubs to get your full moon rocks off. Sleep for 6 hours, and then repeat the next day. It's a tough life, but someone has to do it.

If you are up to it, try Soi 6, which can be intimidating, but if you have the courage, then it can be a blast. You can get plentiful, cheap, minimal hassle, albeit somewhat mechanical sex at will on soi 6. Search for soi 6 on this thread and you will get thousands of hits.

And finally, once you have caught your breath, healed the wounds on your severely abused member, and wiped that stupid grin off your face, post your experiences right here on ISG.

That's also my experience. Thai girls (and other girls in SE Asia) are generally quite correct. She assured me she would, in return for a higher-than usual 2500 B. In the room she insisted on payment up front. Now, that's unusual, but I was silly enough to half-accomodate her by putting the banknotes on a book shelf and say, you can pick them up after the act. She swooped past me and grabbed the money. And sure enough, once we were in bed she exclaimed that she NEVER does "sex ass". I said that she had promised this. She ignored me. In the end I asked, so why did you cash an extra high price? I always take the airport bus to Patts. Then take the baht bus to nearest street within about a block or two of hotel and no problem walking it as luggage have smooth wheels. Only danger is crossing the damn street. But having said that, it would not be easy for a newbie not knowing where hotel is located and where the streets are. Or worst--booking a hotel mies away from the nearest baht bus route. If you know where you are and where you are going then no problems. Another option is take the Bell Travel bus as they drop you straight to hotel (or nearest known hotel if yours is not really known to them).

Having spent slight under 2 weeks there, I would give my thoughts and a small guide for other newcomers in a way that I would find helpful for myself. In light of recent events, please keep in mind that the observed period was September / early October.

My impression of Pattaya: Amazing and I am not sure if there is another place like it. I hope to be corrected. To me it seems a marvel for the sex industry, with its concentration and openness seemingly unparalled with something for every taste.

I remember initially when I naively asked a few weeks ago on this forum where the action was. The answer for Pattaya seems to be everywhere. I have never seen a place like this where the sex industry essentially dominates and is omnipresent (a regular nonworking Thai girl I met in Bangkok angrily referred to it literally as « Sex City » when I mentioned I was going there). However omnispresent, however large the choices, some judgement is needed on where to go and where to stay.

I personally took the Intimate Hotel in Central Pattaya (Soi 14) which in retrospect was a good choice, though I am curious about others on an equal standard for my next trip. The city is sufficiently small that one could walk to the major areas from other places. Transport options are motorbike taxis, usually for 50 or 60 baht to get from say, Walking Street to Soy Pukhao. The baht buses usually have a fixed route along a main road (Thanon) costing 10 baht wherever you get off.

Beach Road runs along the sea. Second Road is the parallel next road which should be the spine of ones ventures into Pattaya's nightlife. The Sois run on both sides. A map however is useful. The furthermost West side of Beach Road brings one to Walking Street which I think is a worthy place to start.

-Walking Street: Longer and with many more Gogo Bars than its equivalent in Phuket (Bangla Road in Patong). On my first night I couldn't believe it how many there were. I must have been in most of them, and my particular favourites would be: Peppermint, Baccara, HappyAgogo, Alcatraz. The side street to left going down (Soi Pattaya 15 on the map) has Windmill and BabyDolls agogo, as well as my personal more expensive favorite, Whats Up, which well, is in my opinion, the higher scale of what is available. These are by far not the only ones, but the ones that left an impression. As has been written, the prices on Walking Street are very high. Barfines of 800 to 1000 baht, then often Short Time prices of 2000 or 3000 Long Time. This is the most touristy part of Pattaya so I guess it is to be expected. Crowds every night of Chinese package tourists, and Japanese. Gogobars were open till 3 am from what I could see.

Walking Street of course has Insomnia and Ibar, which I admit that I only spent once inside of. I probably should give it another chance some other time. This nightclub has a number of freelancers, which skips the barfine cost, but then, I suppose the rest depends on what you can negociate.

-Beer Bars: These are everywhere and were my preferred venues. Barfines of 300 to 500, Long Time 1500 around. Pattaya is jampacked with these and they seemed to be open very late, lights on or off. Some do not close at all, proven by me hanging around one till 6 am one morning, and after realizing (I was slow) that the girl I was talking to was available, took an early morning pickup that I never forgot. Though you probably would find them if you had both your eyes gouged out, the areas I'the mention are Soi 10 opposite the Bay Breeze Hotel and a massive garden just behind the Pattaya Night Bazaar following through all the way to the next parallel road.

-Massage parlors: Literally everywhere and chances are the girls will be harassing you throughout your stay to come. Soy Honey is known amongst others for these.

-Soy Pukhao / LK Metro: Go here. Follow Second Road's Soi 13 all the way down, and you'll see that this is another major centre. To the left, near the LK Metropolitaine hotel after which the area is named, is a winding road which contains a number of gogo bars (the Office and Sugar Bar being good ones), clubs, beer bars which is less frequented by the tourists, a square of roads.

Soi Langkee which has some blowjob bars, including the conspicuous LaPoste is here, open during the daytime.

Much further down Second Road:

Soy 6 : Open during the day. Useful given that Pattaya is a place that elsewhere only seems to get going around 8-9 pm. Has bars all along the road that offer Short time 1400 I think, with upstairs rooms. Or Barfines of 500 around. Some bars offer much higher bar fines starting at a 1000 for earlier in the day that go down to 500 by 10 pm.

Soy 7 : Great beer bar street full of girls.

Soy 8 : less stuff available, some beer bars though. The notable entry here is the Silverstar Gogo bar, which is good for a pop-in to see if you like it. Full nudes, nice girls, ping pong stuff. Not for everyone.

I felt safe wherever I was, and never felt I was in danger of being robbed or attacked. The people are great, the service of the girls, in general, amazing. Though I would put the caveat that you shouldn't always take the best looking one, looking for some interest on her side, to avoid kicking her out when she turns out to not provide any service back in the room. Pattaya is the place and I'm glad I discovered it finally.

We are swamped at work, so my boss was delighted to hear I wanted to delay my trip. Problem is Korean Air customer service apparently can't just tell you how much it will cost to change your reservation or if seats are available without an agent calling you back within 24 hours. Customer service rep I spoke with had an East Indian accent. Fuck! And I heard there were a really cracking airline. Their website is sporadic as well. Sometimes it can pull up my reservation and sometimes it cannot locate it. Plus the KAL ticker counter at the airport is only open a few hours before their daily flight. Just floating that info out there to you fellow travelers. I am very disappointed with KAL.

Talk to the boots on the ground just now. Was told just cruising down Soi Buakhao, many of the bars that were opened had no music nor were the lights on. Many of the smaller bar were closed I consider the real hard core believers and will take a wait and see approached and take it one day at a time.

I just got this from boots on the ground the tour was done between 7:00 pm through 8:30 pm.

A ride through Soi 6, had the around 50% of the bars open with girls. No music and the lights were deem.

Going down Beach Road, quiet all BeerBars open no music lights deem. At the foot of Walking Street, the large neon billboard is off. A walk through W. S. Had many of the Go Go closed but a number were uncertain with guys and gals standing or waiting outside? Many look like they were just uncertain as to what to do standing around thinking of opening or not. Spice Club (formerly of Beach Soi 15,) had lights on and ready to open in by 8:30 pm. Bacarra, Happy, Peppermint and Beach was clearly closed chain on door of Bacarra. Soi Diamond all the clubs were closed including Windmill.

I do like the music, lights and party atmosphere and thats why i go to Pattaya. There are speculations about the time lines for bars to open. Insomnia has posted a image about Full moon party on 14th October on their FB page. So it's assumed that within 3 to 7 days things should be back to normal.

One of my girls had to go back immediately after dinner at 11 pm yesterday because her family didn't want her out plying trade.

By mid November, however, things should be back to normal in LOS until the December / January crazy high season takes over. I dislike BKK / Patt over the Dec / Jan period. And for the most part things are still the same and thriving as ever. I think some were even saying that eventually Nana Plaza would be demolished, and guess what, it's still there (as well as Soi Cowboy, Patpong, etc.).

There may be some rough spots for sure, but I think the successor will eventually find his way with the Thai people and things will go back to normal on that front also. I am not an expert by any means, but just an optimist I suppose.

If there would have been own owner of that land, it would have been gone a long time ago, probably when Interchange Tower was developed. Nana is one owner. When he thinks he can make more money from a sale; he will. Patpong will continue as tourist "Disneyland" or sorts. Kind of like Bourbon St in New Orleans is today. Why would anyone prefer not to go in December? Peak Season? December has the very best weather in Thailand in normal circumstances (balmy warm but not so hot and sticky). If you want beautiful beaches, the Andaman side of Thailand is more beautiful in December, e. G. Phuket.

Bangkok is very quiet when getting close to new year. I guess Pattaya may be quieter too. Girls go back to their provinces for New Year.

I go to Thailand any time of the year, since I live there part time. I don't see any great issues.

For the guys that want to know the facts from the streets and not idle speculation, here goes.

The police and army have advised all bars, gogos, and all other entertainment venue that is it up to each one to make up their own minds as to whether to open or not, as to sell alcohol or not, the only thing that is being asked for is that music if played be played at very low volume.

Most bars are open, most gogos are open, most girls are at work, the places that decided to stay closed Friday night will probably open again tonight (Saturday).

Sunday is a total no alcohol day as it is the end of lent and a Buddha holiday (nothing to do with king).

Talk from most of the bar / club owners is that they will operate as normal but with low music for the next couple of days and take further instructions as they come in from the police.

7/11, tesco and other stores, the banks are all open for business as usual, some 7/11's are selling alcohol, same as supermarkets, some are not, as said it is up to each establishment to decide.

Talk of doom and gloom or anything else is pure speculation and has nothing to do with reality, nobody including the government knows what will happen in the future, good or bad.

I am currently in Pattaya and was wondering how the bars will handle the passing of the King. As expected, after a first shock, the business sense prevailed for quite a few. Imagine all the tourists and all the girls. The tourists came here for fun and not for mourning. The girls (and the families they support!) can only survive a few days without income and, hence, the business must go on. This was then also my impression when I was in WS around 10 PM. Quite a number of bars were open at that time. However, they had no lights outside and only briefly opened the doors to let customers in and out. Inside it was close to normal. Most of them just tuned down the volume a bit (which I appreciated anyhow! Some of the open bars, however, even had somewhat louder music, which you could hear in the whole WS. Altogether, perhaps about 40-50% of the bars in WS were in operation. Only did the girls not dance topless or nude. They were all covered like "coyotees". Nevertheless, you could barfine and take them out as normal. At least if you were fast enough. Due to the pressure by the police (and one mama mentioned the military), they closed at midnight sharp. So, you were on the lucky side if you had made your catch by then.

I am not sure, and this is only a guess. Perhaps the Thai-owned bars were open, while the foreign-owned bars were closed. I believe the Thais know better how to deal with the police and the military, if necessary. However, the foreign owners might also not get the same treatment if in violation of rules and the mourning.

I assume the coming days will be similar, but probably more and more bars will follow suit and open, just keeping low profile and possibly closing a bit earlier, like midnight. This might persist for the 30 days of public mourning.

We will see in the coming days and weeks how it develops. I am not a prophet, but I don't believe in the turmoil that some people forecast, and I don't hope it's going to happen. I am under the impression that the military has a pretty good grip on the power and maintain things under control. They will not allow any turmoil or riots, whoever will be the new King. They have prepared quite well for the current situation and will make sure Thailand is not falling into a dark hole. The country depends too much on the income from tourism, and scared tourists who stay absent are no good for the country. Therefore, I trust the military has all the interest (and most likely also the power) to return to normal as soon as possible. At least for the ordinary people. Yes, there will be change. No new King will have the same respect and love from the Thai people as had King Bhumibol. Therefore, the monarchy might undergo some changes. But I don't expect the whole country to change so dramatically from the current situation. Just IMHO.

After a midnight session with my regular went out to check WS clubs last (Friday) night and contrary to our expectations 808, iBar and Insomnia were open. Ibar sound level maybe 60-70% of normal, not many people either. Insomnia maybe 90% vol level, almost normal. 808 open but doors closed to reduce noise to street, inside sound level normal but very few people. When leaving asked the familiar guard if they open on Sat and he said yes.

My girl (who works in bar in evenings) told bars are allowed to run just no music or bright lights. Many girls relieved after initial concern of no money for a month.

I would expect from mongering perspective bars and clubs run as before after couple of days, maybe with doors closed or sound level a bit lower. Girls also likely to co back work after couple of days of mourning, as my girls said yes they love (d) the king but they need to eat too. Agogos seemed to be mostly closed. No issue for me as would not go anyway, actually better for me as closed agogos mean more pretty girls in clubs 555.

So in short. Most probably mongering continues, just maybe a with a bit lower sound and light level.

Alcohol sales not impacted at all.

The shophouses in Cowboy are individually owned. If there would have been own owner of that land, it would have been gone a long time ago, probably when Interchange Tower was developed. Nana is one owner. When he thinks he can make more money from a sale; he will. Patpong will continue as tourist "Disneyland" or sorts. Kind of like Bourbon St in New Orleans is today. The bars in Pattaya are really not what they were even a decade ago. Beers bars have just about died out and really only a few GoGos bank. Soi 6 is still doing ok, but overall Pattaya does not really need to monger any more with more and more mainstream tourists.I think it's reached sort of a balance, with pay for pleasure on one side, and mainstream tourist atmosphere on the other. I'm sure it's not the same as before, nothing ever is, life is always about changes. But I don't think they have to be mutually exclusive.


Why would anyone prefer not to go in December? Peak Season? December has the very best weather in Thailand in normal circumstances (balmy warm but not so hot and sticky). If you want beautiful beaches, the Andaman side of Thailand is more beautiful in December, e. G. Phuket.

Bangkok is very quiet when getting close to new year. I guess Pattaya may be quieter too. Girls go back to their provinces for New Year.

I go to Thailand any time of the year, since I live there part time. I don't see any great issues.I am just not a big fan of crowds, and I've been before during that time period. Not a huge deal but just prefer relatively lighter crowds. I'm not sure how things will be this year if the New Years celebration is going to be curtailed.


I am currently in Pattaya and was wondering how the bars will handle the passing of the King. As expected, after a first shock, the business sense prevailed for quite a few. Imagine all the tourists and all the girls. The tourists came here for fun and not for mourning. The girls (and the families they support!) can only survive a few days without income and, hence, the business must go on. This was then also my impression when I was in WS around 10 PM. Quite a number of bars were open at that time. However, they had no lights outside and only briefly opened the doors to let customers in and out. Inside it was close to normal. Most of them just tuned down the volume a bit (which I appreciated anyhow! Some of the open bars, however, even had somewhat louder music, which you could hear in the whole WS. Altogether, perhaps about 40-50% of the bars in WS were in operation. Only did the girls not dance topless or nude. They were all covered like "coyotees". Nevertheless, you could barfine and take them out as normal. At least if you were fast enough. Due to the pressure by the police (and one mama mentioned the military), they closed at midnight sharp. So, you were on the lucky side if you had made your catch by then..The last part is the same way I feel also.

Second thing is you posted this rather lengthy ISG report on your visit to Pattaya in 2011. Is it really your "first time here in Thailand" or do you just have a short memory? Or possibly you recently hit your head really hard?


So took my first trip to Thailand last week. (I usually travel in Latin and South America and parts of Europe). I stayed in Pattaya for a week.

I went during their New Year celebrations. I figured it would be over by April 15 or 16. So I arrived on the 16th. But the festivities ended up going on until April 19. So walking down the streets in Pattaya during this time means getting soaked with water. Its their tradition to have water guns and squirt / soak passers by. Everyone was doing it everywhere, including the tourists. Its all good fun, but I wished it only lasted one day!

Pattaya itself is basically a party city with beach. Its somewhat crazy. There literally hundreds of bar-hotels (and some with restaurants). All these bars have girls that are available. In addition there's all the Go-Go bars in the Walking district area and the area around Areca hotel. There's probably more go-go bars, but I had enough fun in these two areas and not enough time to explore other parts.

There's also lots of guys from northern Europe here on extended holiday stays of 1-3 months or retired. Came across several of them in the bars during the day and had good converstaions with them.

Beers prices are fairly cheap at $2 (60-70 Baht) at most bars and in the Go-Go bars around $3-4. Drinks for ladies seems to be set at around $4 everywhere.

Food was also cheap. Most decent meals were costing me around $5-7 including a non-alcoholic drink. Breakfast was included in my hotel, but otherwise costs around $4.

I did some research on this forum first and decided to stay at Penthouse and booked for 2 nights. I think it was a mistake and I am so glad I only booked 2 nights. They have a policy of you paying up front and in the event you change your mind and want to leave earlier. Well tough luck..SL.

Phil, you have clearly been to Pattaya before. You really shouldn't need to ask if there is any place better. If you took the top 1% of girls in BKK vs. Pattaya, BKK likely has the edge but the pure quantity available in Pattaya makes it a better option imo.

From DMK Airport took A1 bus to Mochit bus station. Took about 45 minutes to 1 hour. From Mochit took bus to north Pattaya (117 baht).

From north Pattaya baht bus can take you to your place.

Day 1:

Landed at Pattaya at 12 noon. Had a shower and some food and off to a massage parlor for an oil massage. Massage was good and worth a try. Evening just walked around Soi 6 good girls around including some beautiful ones but none was so appealing to me.

Got a contact from massage parlor. Called her on for the night and banged her - 2000 baht.

Day 2:

Off to see sanctuary of truth.

Evening had another oil massage. Very beautiful lady in Soi bukhao. She offered sex for 1200 baht but I declined as they did not have separate room just curtained inclusions. Now off to another massage parlor near Pattaya central and had a good massage. The girls were very co-operative and never asked for any tip. And thai massage for 150 baht. At night I was off to walking street Tony disco. I was a bit nervous there so called upon our member jak patel for help. A girl I met in restaurant brought me a good girl for 2000 baht a night. She had big boobs and was drunk: Think1: Had a good time with her.

Day 3:

I was into a foot wear shop to find a pair of slippers for beach and found a good girl there. Approached her. She declined. Again after few hours approached her. She gave her number and said she will be free only after 12. So called on another girl who helped me find a girl in disco. She came over with her bike and took me to jometian beach. We drink, dance and sing in beach and it was the best moments I had rather than sex, that too free of cost. At around 11.30 it started raining and on our way back dancing in rain was super fun. Just loved the girl. Now at 12 I called upon the foot wear shop girl. After work she came to my room. Beautiful girl. Never asked her the rate. Banged her. She said she wanted to leave at 5 I agreed. When leaving I asked how much she wanted. She said 1000 baht. I was surprised just 1000 bhats for this good girl. Any way this was the best day in Pattaya. Total expense 1000 baht and 2 beer and 2 girls one for banging and other for fun at beach.

Day 4:

Visited under world Pattya.

Evening again called upon the beach girl. Got a couple of beer bottles. Roaming around city in her bike. Sat on beach for few hours. Had a nap on her lap. Got back. She dropped me to my hotel and said she would come back after a little work. She works as a manager in a shop. She got back at 10. Had a street dinner with her. Got her to room. WILD GIRL. Not a prostitute type girl. Managed to get her activated in a couple of hours.

Day 5 :

Had a massage and left Pattaya at 12.

Total expenses for me: 2500 baht for hotel.

2000+2000+1000 = 5000 baht for girls.

And 600 baht for massage.

1400 baht for food.

Misc expenses extra.

Total expenses including flight:16000 Baht.
