I viewed the link above and I discovered that the cost for one semester (90 hours) of Level 1, 2 or 3 is 2910 Reais (or approximately $1600 US Dollars using an exchange rate of 1.82). This is about $18 US Dollars an hour (1600/90). Is this a fair price?
I find it very expensive. When I studied at PUC they had two kinds of programs. One program was for paying foreign students and the other was as like a kind of exchange-student. I went for the latter, even though there were no real exchange.
I took Portuguese and two more courses in one semester and only paid a small fee each month. I guess things have changed.
The teaching was excellent. Still I find US$ 18/hour expensive. That's R$ 32/hour. R$ 0,5/minute... half the BA85-price.

ThanksWell, I'm about halfway through it so far. The funniest story yet involves a girl yelling at a client "Shit out my press-on nail! I want it back! " According to the book, about 85% of guys want something or other stuck up their asses. The numbers I get from the girls is more like 50% Americans, 80% Brazilians, and %100 percent Italians, but who am I to quibble.
She also really gives it to the termas owners. I don't think she's got a single good thing to say about them. She barely changed the names--just a letter or two, so it's pretty easy to figure out who's who.
As for the other stuff, I learned a long time ago that most guys really don't want to hear the truth. They pay for the fantasy--which the girls work hard to maintain. And you can rarely say, "This is 100%, in all cases, true." There are always exceptions--but they're strongly in the minority. I don't really want to get deep into discussing those parts of the book. But it's out there if you've the will to get to it. Maybe another member will contribute.

I picked it up at a bookstore in Rio. It just came out a few weeks ago.
As to the other question, I revealed the book's answer to that further down. The truth, as I understand it, is a little more complicated. If she's actually physically attracted to the guy, then, yes, she may enjoy the sex. OTOH, I know a girl who worked in a termas for six years. She tells me she only ever had a real orgasm twice--both times with guys she was physically disgusted by. Go figure. The garden in question being the Jardim Botanico area of RJ, as opposed to your Judeo-Christian garden of eden. It had been a couple of years since I had visited Solarium. One reason is that it´s rather out of the way. Another reason being that I haven´t been overly impresed with the talent there the past few years. Just to try something different I decided to pay Termas Aeroporto a visit. I´ve never been a fan of this place because IMO it´s always staffed with a bunch of fat chicks. However, I´ve already visited the majority of the better Termas so I figured a trip there for a couple of hours couldn´t hurt (going with low expectations helps). I was greeted at reception and surprised to learn that they no longer require you to pay for the entrance in advance. I got changed and showered and then toured to facilities. Since I come her so rarely I get a little lost - and this place isn´t even very big.
As I figured, the stafff was 95% fat chicks. But this seems to be what the well-to-do Brasilian business guys like .... they of course make up the vast majority of the clients that come here. So for you guys that like your women "thick", ie. "fat" this may well be the place for you. The facilities are quite nice and at least they had a good DJ who was spinning out mixes of forro, pegode, and other MPBs - no rap or funke; thank goodness. The only thin lady there was quite attractive, ironically when I spoke with her she told me that we had been together a couple of years ago when she worked at Solarium. In the pedestrianised street that runs alongside the metro of the same name but at right angles to Rua Buenos Aires. Entrance hidden behind a newsstand so easily missed. Often has a guy selling overpriced fake watches at the door. A bit closer to the Carioca metro station that the Uruguiana one.

Very secure and they know how I handle my money and will immediately kick any charge back. Ill take the shitty exchange rates for security and ease of mind. Too much made of exchange rates IMHO. Unless it like 10% Difference no use in shopping around and its never greater than a 5% differential.

I think bringing cash is the best route - you just have to be careful about carrying it and transporting it to the apartment or hotel safely. On the trip I was on 2 weeks ago, I brought a lot of USD and was able to get a rate of 1.88-1.90 at a cambio (changing $500 at a time) even though xe.com quoted 1.82. My friend was withdrawing from Citibank ATM everyday and getting hosed with a rate of 1.76-1.78. The 6%+ discrepancy (cambio vs ATM) matters quite a bit, since for every $500 you are getting screwed out of $30 or more USD, ie, almost the equivalent of one entry fee at a terma. Those costs start adding up.
I think bringing cash is the best route - you just have to be careful about carrying it and transporting it to the apartment or hotel safely.
I agree on both points personally (just personally - I'm not saying it's a preferred option for everyone, just one of my main preferred options.) This is the first time I have ever seen a director of Help admit that Help will actually close as a result of this government action. Because of this my Opinion is that a deal was struck behind the scenes to give them one more Carnaval before the gravy train shuts down.
This also gives them 5 more months to get an alternate location ready, this way they can continue the gravy train. But if not hopefully the girls will just take over another club.

I think people are perhaps over reaching on the impact. In terms of numbers, this is barely a bigger event than Carnival spread out over a larger part of Rio.

Sperto you are right about to not worry, as we cannot do nothing, so better to take it easy and relax.
However I do not think it is something 7 years ahead, as consider we are almost in 2.010, only 4 years to world soccer championship there and even for this Rio and its prices will start to change.
Even more they will start to feel it a bit in advance, so we do not have so much time before to see the begin of change in Rio.
No doubt that as scenary and view, Rio is a great city to host the Olympics, specially after seen the video of master plan, but from our point of view, specially mine that I could care less about sport that other and not me do, this is not something will help us in our hobby, despite a bit improvment about transportation.

I think mongers are overreacting to the Olympic and the oil discoveries, because the prosperous Brazilians don't want things to change. The upper-class minority prosper while the majority try and survive with their large country's weak infrastructure. Like Spring time, new flowers sprout as the old die. There will be new GDPs asking for what she needs, and it will be R$150 BBBJ, completa, etc. all night.
The issue is what airfare and exchange rates. I've been to Rio 3 times this year from Los Angeles. But the freaking airfare and exchange rate isn't to my liking. And if the airfare and exchange is not favorable, then many mongers will avoid Brazil. This will cause the GDPs to be less greedy with less mongers. A monger I met in March 2009 who lives in Atlanta and gets buddy passes from a relative is in the Dominican Republic today, because of the real dollar exchange rate alone.
And as for the Olympics, who gives a damn. When I watch it on TV, it's to watch the big ass and big leg track and field sprinters. the Olympics is more of a family thing, and I don't think it will affect mongering. Maybe the apartment rates will climb, but there will be too girls converging on Rio which will over saturate the GDP market. Therefore, the GDP rate will either stay the same or decline.

Guys I must re-enforce the heading - I am NOT whinging here - just expressing my views.
I recently spent 5 nights in Rio - Sept 17 to 22. Prior to my arrival I posted 2 posts in the 'Travel Plans and Announcements' thread regarding my visit.
I have been an inconsequential contributor to the Rio - and indeed whole Brazil - sections of ISG - most of my 770 plus posts have been regarding China - Beijing and Shanghai in particular.
I was very surprised that no senior member living in / visiting Rio at the same time as me responded.
Again - THIS IS NOT A WHINGE - it is just so foreign to me. If similar circumstances arose in Beijing or Shanghai when I was there and I saw a brother with that number of posts seeking no more than company whilst in town - indeed myself and 4 or 5 other senior / regulars in those cities would have welcomed him with open arms - even pm'ing him with meeting locations and times and he would have been shown the ropes.
Billy DOES NOT need hand holding - Billy DOES NOT require babysitting - just the lack of response was somewhat surprising.
Still managed to bowl over 17 w.h.o.r.e.s in 5 days - 3.4 w.h.o.r.e.s per day - well down on the average of last visit of 5.1 w.h.o.r.e.s per day - but still - I did need a couple of friends to make that 3 guy / 12 girl fiesta happen - but there was no interest.
Once again - this is NOT a whinge - just expressing my feelings.
If any of you guys are ever in Beijing, Shanghai, Angeles City, Batam just drop Billy a note - we will arrange invaluable assistance for you.
AND - Billy always gives more than he takes - actually met a great guy in 4 x 4 - turns out he was a pilot with a major US carrier - first time in Rio - I gave him some advice from my limited database and I know I have developed a friendship for life.
He is already angling to get a gig to Beijing in November to sample some of the Mongolian delicacies there.

Originally wanted to book this apartment - http://www.rioapartments.com/0-20_aluguel_de_imoveis_conjugado_copacabana/ - US$75 / night - but it was not available for this period. Had this apartment booked - US$90 / night - http://www.rioapartments.com/0-46_aluguel_de_imoveis_conjugado_quarto_e_sala_copacabana/ - but you just can’t give those w.h.o.r.e.s a serious workout with that hard sided bed – so settled on this apartment through Amerioca Tours – Apt 1205 - http://www.amerioca.net/onebedrooms.html - US$100 / night.
Could not recommend Amerioca high enough – Don was superb. He even helped me explain the address to Karlas to help me get the first 2 w.h.o.r.e.s there – and he also got me home from 4 x 4 when I just could not get the taxi driver to understand where I wanted to go – perfect customer service.
Food:
Dinner - Billy was so disappointed to find Kilogram closed for remodeling. I usually eat here most nights – settled for a place opposite which was called Cena I think – same deal – paid on weight – but quality nowhere near as good as Kilogram.
Cena did have an ‘all you can eat’ pizza deal which was cool – they continually bring different pizzas to your table and you can have a slice or 2 of many different varieties for R20 I think – not sure on price – but it was quite reasonable.
Breakfast - Billy ate at Lopes every morning. Morning to Billy in Rio is 11am to midday – Lopes would cook whatever I wanted – cheap also. Great coffee. To get to Lopes from Rua Almirante Goncalves – cross across Avenida N S Copacabana and turn left – walk 2 or 3 blocks – go past Police Station – another block or 2 and it is on your right.
Agencies:
As usual had 1 or 2 girls from Karla / Scortshow every day at 1pm. When I was there 2 years ago there was a girl who answered the phone in Karlas who spoke English – this time no English at all. Don from Amerioca explained the address for first visit – girls brought the book – from there on easy. I got the girls to call Karla and arranged the next day’s delights before they left.
Some of the Karla girls are less than stunning – the pictures in the book are certainly flattering to the girls – but the performance of EVERY girl I had was faultless.
Interesting point here is that 2 days after I returned from Rio Karla's update their web site to incorporate an 'english' version also. May help a bit if you cannot read / speak Port - but pretty useless if those answering phones don't speak english.
Termas:
Luomo’s first day – 2 or 3 stunners – but tailed off quickly IMHO. Had 3 superb girls here over 2 visits – I love this place.
Monte Carlo – really average line-up – really had to struggle to find something suitable – but again service sublime.
Solarium – exactly same deal as Monte Carlo. I am not sure which of these 2 it was but when I visited one all the girls were in kinda sexy street clothes – fucking hated it – had to work doubly hard to check the bodies.
4 x 4 – This was the third time I have been to 4 x 4 – first time I sampled w.h.o.r.e.s there. First visit 3 years ago it was closed for renovations – second visit 2 years ago the guy I went with suffered an asthma attack 5 minutes after we got there – this time no such bad luck.
Arrived at approx 3.30pm – had the first stunner naked before 5 – followed with a second session with a stunning blonde – R210 for an hour in a standard suite both sessions is great value.
Could easily spend all day in 4 x 4.
Centaurus – Did not make it this time – I fucked up the days and Sunday ended up the day I had for Centaurus. YES – many of you will say I missed nothing. I do not agree – 3 previous visits there had clearly yielded the best quality girls I saw in Termas IMHO. YES – cost higher – but I do not go to Rio to penny pinch.
Help – Was in Help every night – YES I know many of you will immediately think this classifies Billy as a ‘retard’. Billy loves being in bars surrounded by w.h.o.r.e.s – Billy loves Help – if only they would not make the drinks so strong – clouds ones judgment.
Seriously did not think overall quality was up to what it was 2 years ago – a small handful of stunners – those asking R400 to 500. Took a girl from here each night at R200 – EVERY one was a stellar performer – but Billy does treat them well.
General – You quickly forget just how good Rio is – it is not until you are actually back on the ground knee deep in w.h.o.r.e.s that you realize this is as close to ‘PARADISE” as life on earth could be. Whilst I have to travel half way across the world – 35+ hours to get there and 40 odd hours to get home – it is still ‘PARADISE” and must not be missed.
Thanks in advance for the help of you experienced Rio guys! I need to get out of the States over Christmas and have never been to Rio. I've been to other countries at this time and it usually has about a 50% reduction in ladies to play with. Is that the case in Rio too or because of the larger population will I still be able to have a good selection to pick from.

So far as here it seems slow in the last days, I share something.
This time I got 7 girls from termas, 3 from 4x4, 2 from solarium, 1 from luomo and from montecarlo too.
During my first trip, my favourite terma was solarium, but during this trip both the girls were a... disaster.
However I can say it was my fault, cause with the first one I was in hurry, not much patience to "test" her and she was smarter too. She was one of the few that are older than 30 yo, nice face and smile, but big ass. She was smart as, when we spoke, she seems very friendly, but once in cabine after less than half minute of bbbj wanted to start immediately sex; even FK in cabine was not nice as at the bar. I should understood even cause she was almost the only one girl alone for all the time, neither customers or the other girls went to speak with her....just me LOL.
The second one was a bit drunk and instead to mean more fun in cabine, it turned to make her so lazy I got the feeling she paid me as she wanted daty and only a bit of bbbj.
However despite these 2 girls, all the others were fabulous as you can expect from terma girls.
4x4 for me it is a solid guarantee of GFE, yes it has the little bad point that it get so crowded that it is often hard to find a place where to sit down a while, so I never was able to have quite long and nice conversation with the girl, but once in cabine....you forgot how many hours it took you to get to Rio :)
Luomo and Montecarlo has for me a bit higher quality of girls, even if, obviously, much less choice, but with the good point that you can really relax there, as if you was in normal bar full of girls in bikini, these 2 termas do not have the feeling of sex factory that has 4x4.
To sit down and have nice conversation with the girl, for me it is part of the fun too.
I "regret" I did not see Centaurus, as I know it is very expensive and the rip off terma, but in january I saw there really many beautiful girls, so next trip I will go there and not on sunday as this time ;)

You you may see a 50%+ decline in the line up of available girls as most will spend that time with their families. However, you should still be able to get some actions. A word of advise: for Christmas day and New year's day, make sure you arrange something with a girl you've previously been with as on those days, not much hobby wise going on.

1. You definitely need to OWN or have COMPLETE CONTROL of the company you work for. There are a series of somewhat complicated financial transactions involved - you need to have COMPLETE CONTROL of the finances of a company.
2. Here is the big problem - I will never put this in writing - I need to be sitting beside you and explain it to you step by step. It took me like 6 months to devise this strategy - I will never jeopardise it's potential by putting it out in the public domain. I can get it to work pretty easily here in Australia - I assume same could be acheived in other locations.

I think I might have missed something. What is the big stigma about Help? I just talked to some random broad online who lives in Copa. I asked her what she thought about Help Disco. She was quick to shoot it down, saying there are so many drugs and prostitutes there. I asked her if she had ever been and she said no and did not want to. Then I asked her if she had ever been to Paris. She said no. I said so what do you think about Paris? She said that she couldn't tell me because she had never been there. So duhhh. Why is she so quick to have an opinion on once place she has never been but does not even think to have one for another?
Her idea was that there are people just fucking and snorting cocaine in the open air as free as the wind. I told her don't you think if that was the case the police would be all over the place? Any reasonable person who went to Help would not be able to discern that the general population of women there were working (or rather looking for work), and I seriously doubt they would ever see any drugs (at least I haven't in countless visits; but I have been propositioned on one of the side streets). I know several guys who went on their first visit and just thought it was a regular disco. Rio so far from Australia - I have been to Angeles City 24 times in last 3 years - 2 to 4 day stopovers on way to or from China.

But as good as AC is - nothing compares to Rio - Brazilians are just the BEST w.h.o.r.e.s.Triple B, this is X-Man of UMV and I was in AC three weeks ago and Wes was there last month. I'm off to Berlin (Artemis) in two weeks and I'll be going back to Rio (my 13th trip this year) first week in Nov.

PL kinda funny twist to this story.
I came out of 4 x 4 about 9pm and it was pouring rain - the road outside 4 x 4 was actually 3 to 4 inches deep with water - no taxis in sight - I waited in the rain for 3 or 4 minutes before running out to the main road to right of 4 x 4 entrance.
I grabbed a taxi and showed him the address. He spoke no english - me no Port - and he just shrugged his shoulders.
I called Don and he tried to explain the address - then I heard the taxi driver say oh ALCAZAR - oh ALCAZAR - he knew where Alcazar Restaurant was but had no idea of the street name. Had it not been for the downpour I guess I would have just kept grabbing different taxis til a driver recognised the address - but that rain sure put a 'dampener' on that plan.
From then on I tried that strategy on several taxi drivers - didn't show them the address just repeated ALCAZAR - ALCAZAR - most took me straight there.

The closer I get to leaving Rio, the crazier I tend to get, trying to get one last adventure in. I have promised Tina to see her at L’uomo at 4:30, and she wants to pick some L’uomo girls for me. There is no sign on the building, but the door is open and shows the stairs lit with little Xmas light that leads up. Entrance is 20R, but counts towards your drinks. You get a plastic card with your number on it, and off you go (fully clothed, btw) into the boite. There are only 20 girls or so, several of them below my threshold (not judging, just stating what goes on in my mind), but three nice candidates. Of course, I really want to meet Tina; what Rob has told me sound very intriguing. Not here, either. I ask Melina to call her friend Tina and get me Rob’s number. Rob agrees to come over, but Tina will stay at his place, because she has bruised her legs taking a fall.

A few days in Rio have passed; time to write a report. My first impression: As good as ever, but significantly more expensive than in the past. I wasn’t really there to do bargain hunting, but still. The real-dollar exchange rate was bad; I got quotes of 1.6R/$ at the worst places, 1.7 at the Premier Copacabana hotel, 1.7 at 4*4 and 1.8 at L’uomo. L’uomo also accepted euros at a rate of 2.65.
First day, Wednesday: I arrived at the International airport at 8 pm, has to wait a bit for the Real bus (still the same bargain at 7R), took the 40 min. ride to the Copa through the rain, and arrived at the Premier Copacabana across from the Siquiera Campos metro station (still very highly recommended; reasonably priced, free wireless in the room, clean, and girl-friendly) at 9 pm. Tossed my bags into the room, showered and shaved, and was in L’uomo at 9:20.

Ahhh, I was HOME again.Your reports certainly do indicate you were right at home Euro - you painted such a good picture - close my eyes and L'uomo and 4 x 4 are exactly as you describe.
As I sit here in the lounge at MIA, I cannot imagine a better way to prepare for my flight to Rio. Thanks for taking the time to write a great report.

Do you need a special visa to visit Rio? I have read that you have to have a roundtrip ticket and send your passport to the Brazil embassy to get one. Need some info.

I believe the taxi drivers know all the streets they just play el stupidito.
Sometimes you get a driver from Zona Norte who doesn't really know his way around very well and you have to guide him.

Wow. Great reporting. I've been missing Rio for almost 8 months now and you brought me back with your tales from Luomo. Man I love that place. the only real downer now is how crappy the dollar/real rate has become. It has been in free fall mode since March of last year and shows no signs of letting up. By the time February rolls around, we might be dollar for dollar. Thanks again Euro....

The way terma girls are so friendly and their cheap prices.
Rio without termas will be nothing different from one of the other 4 cities I visited (Recife-Foz-Curitiba-Floripa), expensive prices and not great attitude of GDP.
Yes only last time I discovered gpguia and had enough level of portuguese to understand almost all, so maybe I will check Belo Horizonte, so cheap fly there from Rio and escorts looks great, but even a top notch escort at reasonable price does not offer the fun you have to sit down at bar in terma and have great conversation with girl.

Yes. It's on Rua Prado Jr right at the corner of Rua Barato Ribiero. It is a well-known restaurant to the locals and it is open till 4 or 5:00 in the morning. They serve generous sandwiches as well as hot meals. The place has simple decor with Don Quihote pictures and wholesome food.

If you are form the US, you do. If you are from the European Union, on the other hand, you don't. Just one of these instances of tit-for-tat.
And, yes, you need to send your passport to the embassy with a copy of the itinerary. Be prepared for this process to take 2 weeks. Even if you show up in person at the consulate or embassy, it will not be faster (yes, I have tried that!).

Exactly! I actually like to use the stand-up bar, which is open to Rua Barato Ribiero. I consume my sandwich and beer standing up at the bar, and I don't sit down in the restaurant portion.

I've gone to L'uomo a few times, and still in FKK mode, took out the entrance fee to pay up front. Every time, they have refused to accept it. Since they discount the entry fee for sessioning with a girl, they wouldn't know what to charge anyway.

I dropped off my passport with the application & $130 money order (ouch) at a specific time @ The Brasilian Embassy in NY, and picked it up the next day with the Visa attached. The website indicates several days I noticed?

At AMPs, Termas, Strip clubs, wherever, one should never identify theirself as a newbie. Did the newbie say something to cause them to believe he might not session, i.e. "just checking the place out?" Perhaps Luomo front desk was just covering their bet.

Yeah, good point. But I don't use a cell phone in Brazil. So my only way to call her was through the hotel phone from my room. And I do not know how to send a text this way. Come to think of it: I never text via my cell phones in Europe or the US either.
Plus, as you can see from my reports on the following days, the heartache didn't last that long for me ;) That's the beautiful thing about Rio: There is always a next "love of my life".

She had her own post on the "FALE COM AS ACOMPANHANTES" thread. Doesnt appear to be there now. She was charging 300R for 2 hours! You can always try going to black and white and look for her. If she isnt there, offer to buy one of the girls a drink, if she will give you her cell number.

The real-dollar exchange rate was bad; I got quotes of 1.6R/$ at the worst places, 1.7 at the Premier Copacabana hotel, 1.7 at 4*4 and 1.8 at L’uomo. L’uomo also accepted euros at a rate of 2.65.
I know some folks who think the US doallar is going to tank soon. Though we can probably count on the dollar being weak for the near future, I don't think that it's going to depreciate so much that it becomes a third-world currency. Not an economist so I have no idea, but since I earn my money in dollars I certainly hope not.
I'll be in Europe for a few weeks this November (causing trouble & chasing Euro-babes); I reckon that instead of converting my Euros at the end of my vacation I'll keep a few hundred and then exchange them in Rio when I return there in January.

I believe the Luana on Hotside is the wrong girl. We want the big ass porn star. In March-May 2009, I heard she was at Black and White. But I was warned not to visit that neighborhood.
