Believe it or not but for the last two nights there appeared to be a tupperware party being held in MP!!!! Well not a party strictly speaking, they weren't selling the stuff but were having some sort of meeting.
There were more couples and families than garotas, even the street vendors appear to have disappeared.
It sounds like we agree that it has not been heavy in Copacabana in the past. Of course there is a market, but mostly in Gloria from my experience. But maybe that is changing. Maybe they have overrun Balcony. I've gotta go check that out. That would be a sight to see.

With Help closed, everyone is asking where the action is. But as many already know, there are dozens of little casas all over the place, often in those office buildings all through Copacabana.
Unfortunately, they can be hard to find, but often when walking on Atlantica you'll encounter a tout who will offer to show you the places. While I usually recommend avoiding touts, it may be worth it to throw some Reals his way, as he'll talk you to places you didn't know existed, and where the girls are WAAAAY cheaper than the old Help girls.I guess no one can complain about the possibilities in Rio in regards to GDP`s, but the main problem is the lack of a new Help. It is not so much about the action, which is almost endlessly there, but the "feeling" that Help gave. I myself was there more for the "circus" than the girls, even though I at times brought home company if she was beautiful and appealing enough

Centaurus is my least favourite place in Rio, hence I am biased. It could be argued that the look that is dominant at Cent is that of white brazilian. They have less darker skinned girls than other places. Hence if you are into that it would be worth checking out. However it is the most expensive terma in Rio. There is no website with pictures of the girls that are up to date. Just go there. The last time I was there there was one hot chick, the rest were very ordinary, never seen it as bad, however that talent comes and goes.

It is located in Ipanema ( rua canning rua = street) on the border with Copacabana. Google maps is great.
They descriminate against all foreigners, just not middle eastern dudes. In fact being of middle eastern appearance you will look more Brazilian than your average foreigner, hence this could be to your advantage. They descriminate by charging foreigners R$20 more than locals. They also try and charge you the full R$450 up front, but you can just pay the R$120, but need to ask. All the staff at the reception speak excellent Englsih, probably better English than mine. The guy that has been there forever also speaks Spanish and passable French & Italian
General cent info: The girls are very very aggressive as instructed by management, they will bug you like flys on shit.
Escort agencies are a lottery in any country.

MohabCentaurus management are strictly cold business when it comes to the tourist trade. I'm a Brit but speak Portuguese, they think I am Brazilian. I pay less for entrance and only pay when leaving. I have never understood why Gringos use this place when there are similar places that treat you with more respect and charge less.

I second all your motions, that place was legendary! There have been talks of a replacement, but they are just talk. Add to that the current goverment does not look like they want that atmosphere on Copa or anywhere else again.

I was reading O Dia today and came across a very interesting article. Google today added the "street view" feature to some major Brasilian cities. Rio and Sao Paulo are there for sure. I read the article at work and had to test it immediately, I wanted to see the time period of the pics. I put the "yellow man" on Atlantica Ave right between MP and where Help was. I panned around and yes they show Help in the pics, so I know the pics are at least 2 years old, but for us mongers its now good to have a visual of what we are looking for. I am going to use this feature a lot in Centro and Sao Paulo, check it out on your Google Maps or Earth and Happy Mongering.

The awesome DJ from Help (I forget his name now), some of the staff, and most of the quality Help girls took over the joint right after Help closed. I was there the whole month of Janeiro and Fevereiro and saw it all transpire before my eyes
The place is small, no doubt, and nothing gets started until midnight so don't even try to go earlier. But it's open 'til 4-5am so adjust your schedule accordingly! Once it kicks in it's like Help concentrated into 40 square meters. I love it, girls will grind and dance with you everywhere, there are naked strippers in cages, and a little roped in VIP section in the back if you want to get a table and chill out with friends. This past February, just before Carnaval, they had some outrageously beautiful Samba girls dancing some nights between 2-3am and the place went nuts. I love the fact the old DJ from help spins there because he really gets the girls going. And the ladies are TOP QUALITY (in my opinion, and I am picky). You'll see a lot of high-end Terma girls show up, as well as 'amateur' talent.
The next "super club" that is supposedly in the works is 'La Meridian' but I haven't heard anything new about it since my last trip. The good news is, I'm leaving in 5 days for Rio and spending the entire Winter (their Summer) this trip so I'll know first hand in a week or two where all the action is at. This will be my 5th trip in 2 years (2. 5 when I'm done). I've been to almost every Terma in Rio (my favorites are 4x4 and L'Uomo, hands down) but I prefer to pick up girls at the clubs and bring them back to my apartment for the night. And I've never, knock wood (pun intended), had a single problem at my apartment w/a girl. Wait, that's not true, Bianca tried to burn the place down my 2nd trip, but that's just Bianca. She's a lot of fun if you give her EXACTLY what she asks for. No negotiating. LOL. She's worth it though, at least once.

Even Vila Mimosa has a street view (search:rua sotero dos reis rio de janeiro). The view is from daytime so the action is very slow. Only a few pro's hanging around.
I guess this street view can be handy for those first-time visitors to VM who feels scared of visiting the Shangri-La of Rio.

No asses and little to no english skills. I speak portuguese well, but the average monger will have some trouble anywhere north of Salvador. Yes it's worth a visit, but not the answer to help woes in my opinion.

For you nostalgia buffs, Help will soon be just a hole in the ground. These pics are from 03/24/10. The odds on the possibility of a reemergence at the Meridian are improving. In May 2009, the Meridian was purchased from the former owner, PREVI, the employee pension fund of the Bank of Brasil by the Windsor Hotel group. The Windsor group is controlled by Sr. José Oreiro Campos, an ex-pat Spaniard who is a former owner of two bingo parlors and has a controlling interest in several hotels in Rio. He also is an owner of ten Rio restaurants and, had a controlling interest in the former discotheque Help. The group bought the Meridien for R$ 170 million, paying installments for 60 months. The group made a down payment of R$ 25 millions, for the purchase on 27 May, 2009. A progress payment of R$ 10 millions is due on 27 of March of 2010. From 27 January, 2011 Windsor will pay 25 installments of R$ 2.7 millions, and other 15 of R$ 4.5 millions, corrected by the IGPM (market price index) plus 8% annual interest. The initial cash flow is consistent with the sale of Help.
Under an agreement dating back to the 1970s when the Meridian was constructed to a height which exceeded building limits for Copacabana there was an agreement with the Prefeitura of Rio de Janeiro that it would operate solely as a hotel. There were numerous proposals for mixed use of the building as offices, condominiums and hotel but the use restriction seemed to prohibit alternative businesses from operating in the facility. It is possible that Sr. Oreiro was successful in negotiating relief from this restriction in exchange for the timely demise of Help in 2009. In the huge edifice of the ex-Meridian building there is plenty of room for a new discotheque to open under the mantle of the Windsor Hotel group. Even without relief from the building use restriction, the hotel may operate a ballroom and convention space.
Help may not reemerge under its original name but Sr. Oreiro knows what sells and how to package his products.

Ummm. To fill the ginormous void left by Help. Apparently gringos and putas go well together so there's a huge market for it. Robing up at Termas is too contrived IMHO, I like the roll playing that goes on in the clubs (and my apartment). Bring on the next Help I say.

I think all of this was planned before Rio won the bid to host the Olympics though, because Le Méridien is directly across from the future Beach Volleyball tournament, and Garotas de programa don't suit well with family crowds.

I also don't speak Portuguese at all, but got by on Spanish (spoken slowly) and body language. I'll be in Rio for a few days ahead of getting back to Fortaleza, and I'm looking forward to hitting it with some amazing hotties.

It's true less English is spoken up north than in Rio. But let's face it, the programa girls in Rio don't speak much English either. Also, the girls in Fortaleza are not as bad looking as posters are making them out to be. I never hear any of the loads of tourists in Fortaleza complaining about the looks of the girls in Fort. I was in Cafe del Mar, in Iracema, my last nite in Fort in 2008, and the quality of the babes was amazing. There were some lookers in the other Iracema clubs too, but nothing like what I saw that nite at Cafe del Mar.
And Cafe del Mar babes that night had lots of variety: light ones, dark ones, blonds, brunettes, short, tall, etc.

Well it's been 4 days since I landed in Rio to start my business. And I've been working the whole time. My plans to hit 4x4 on Monday night were waylaid by staying at our attorney's offices until 11.30pm. Fun times. The good news about endless bureaucracy in Brazil is that it is a barrier to entry :)
Anyway, hoje had a 2 hour afternoon session with Tammy Moricet of Karla's Models.

A friend recommended her (although he later withdrew his reccy after reading some more of her reivews, to be fair) and in those pics on the Karla's site she has a crackin' body, so I'm like why not. After all I've been in Rio for 4 days entirely pussy-free, since landing last Friday. So it's time.
Called up Karla's at 1.20pm and a woman answers who speaks no English. I talk to her in Porto and set up Tammy for 2.30pm. (Later, when Tammy shows me the book from karla's I laugh at the cards that say "English Spoken" -- she smiles and says they lie lol). Receptionist clearly covers the pricing -- R$120 for 2 hours plus R$25 for taxi each way, so total R$170 (about $100 USD these days, or maybe more).
Tammy shows up right on time. She's pleasant but not super passionate. We chat a bit, she showers up, and we get to business. She's a light kisser, and a bit of a tip-swabber (BBBJ), but hey it's been 4 days pussy-free. The good news is she knows how to work her Carioca hips. Did 2 rounds in about 1hr 30mins, and then let her go. Was too tired and the whole experience not passionate enough to make me try for the culo, though she apparently is completa.
All in all a decent experience but I would not repeat with her. FWIW she recommended her colleagues Tabata Sherman and Jamile Cortat, both visible on the Karla's site.

Now my German is limited to "Is this your tank? Hands up?" and "Do you do pool chemicals as well?", so I am not sure I'm gripping all the data but it talks about a place called:
Nossa Sem Hora on Av. Nossa Senhora de Copacabana, 1144. www.nossasemhora.com.br which is a "nightclub....with amateur-prostitutes". (Never met an amateur one.)
I thought I knew Rio reasonably well but I am blanking on this one. Any ideas - or is it known by another name?

Nossa Sem Hora is a regular "boate" that is located on what do you know, Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana. One of my civilian ex girlfriends used to work there as a bartender. It is not a place that caters to Mongers or garotas looking for customers, although like many other bars and nightclubs in Zona Sul (Shenanigans, Melt, Baronetti, Emporio, etc) there are GDP's and semi-GDP's plying their trade from time to time. It is not a place that is popular with tourists so I would recommend sticking to Shenanigan's, Melt, or Emporio if you are looking for GDP action in a non-GDP venue.

I learned this lesson the hard way today. I had alot of running around i hd to do this week, so i wasnt able to swing by the vs store. Like an idiot i listened to some of the guys on this board who talked about being able to buy vs lotion in duty free for american prices. Do not buy VS in duty free!! you will pay Double the american prices. each bottle was 10-13 dollars a piece! no specials like in the states where you can get 5 botles for 25 bucks!!!
again, do not buy your vs in duty free unless you like throwing your money away!!
A friend of mine asked me to buy her Victoria Secret perfume. I have a lot going on right now and I'm already packed for my upcoming trip. So I shot out to VS store and bought a 2 oz perfume for her and then when I get home I look at my suitcase and holly molly I forgot I'm going carry on and my 1 quart see thru plastic baggy 3-1-1 is fully packed already. Unless I move something out of the plastic bag I will have no room for it and if I just stick it in the suit case I risk losing it and $50 out the window.
My question is how much more expensive is it in the duty free in Rio or the duty free in JFK, anybody know?

Really? This is the first time I'm going carry on with all the new rules about liquids and I read everything on the TSA website and tried to do everything by the book. So you're telling me that if I throw down 2 1 quart plastic bags of liquids/cremes/tooth paste/ cologne, shaving cream,suntan lotion the TSA agents will just wave it through? Happens all the time?

Strictly speaking, EACH passenger is allowed ONE 1qt. bag full of 3oz. or less stuff. It might depend on the TSA knucklehead you happen to get looking at your stuff as to whether or not he/she will let you pass with more then one bag.
If the perfume is that important, you might reevaluate some of the other goos and stuff in your bag, leave them at home and source them locally in Rio. After all, toothpaste is pretty much toothpaste and the Sundowner brand sunscreen has always worked well for me.
I can't say for sure about the perfume but the lotions and cremes were exactly the same price as in the US.Duty free in Brazil is more expensive. None of those great sale prices going on (3 for $10, 5 for $20, etc.)
VS is like gold down there. My lady uses it to reward her friends that come over and play. She also sells it through a friend's store. I bring down a bunch everytime I go back and forth. Haven't run into any problems yet.
I check two full 70lb bags of essentials everytime I go, plus carry-ons. What is great is I have a friend that has a 4 y/o son and with the opposite seasons I am able to buy clearance clothes for him in the US for the upcoming season in Brazil. I just spent $200 and got tons of shorts, shirts, etc. for him for $3 and $4. That shit is expensive. My friend, his mom, really appreciates it and has cooked many a great meal for me. If the perfume is that important, you might reevaluate some of the other goos and stuff in your bag, leave them at home and source them locally in Rio. After all, toothpaste is pretty much toothpaste and the Sundowner brand sunscreen has always worked well for me.

I regularly break all kinds of rules when entering or leaving Rio. However, I would not try to pull the same crap on US customs or immigration. The US has 100x better security than Rio and a whole lot less sense of humour if they catch you.
You could play ignorance and just take 2 bags with maybe 150ml of liquids and you will probably get through, if they pick it up it is no big deal. They will just make you dump something. I regularly have more than the 100ml limit, sometimes 200ml, normally it is not a big deal - however I don't conceal it, I just put it all on the tray and if they have a problem they can say something.
If you try and deliberatly conceal crap in your pants and they pick it up you will be in all kinds of crap, possibly face a substantial delay and possible terror charges. Chances of being caught are high as well. Not worth it to try and save a lousy $50.

Hello, all,
So today I decided to go to the drug store and buy some viagra. The guy at the counter was first trying to sell me some gingsing stuff, which he says works better than viagra (atleast that's what I think he said as I speak little portuguese). I kindly declinded and so then he went to the back to grab my medication and when he came out he had two boxes of vigamed in his hands. I was dumbfounded at first as I had never heard of the medication but decided to give it a try and bought only one box.
Has anyone on this forum used this medication before? How safe is it is what I really want to know?
Info I've found on google says it a new type of ED drug that works a different pathway than viagra. Some people said it works better than viagra and faster. Supposely it is only sold in brasil. I really want to try it but is a little hesitant.

Yeah I was there. Probably 30-50 GDPs, but 50-60% were old and tired. 20 % were doable, and 3-4 real cuties. Personally I am not here for "doable" but go for the cuties, so while I did found company nor was there a great selection if out for the jaw-droppers.

Also GOL has some flights very cheap. Latest was fly to SP with normal price and return for 10R$. If you know what to do you'll easily fly from Rio to SP and back for 100 - 150R$.
Anyway I prefer airplane over bus anytime.

VIP is very hit and miss, but if you want to roll the dice maybe an option.

VS lotion is way more in DF Rio, like 40r a bottle.. I always buy the 6 for $30 and 1 free here in the US and throw them in my checked bag before leaving for Rio. That, and Nikes on special for $40, lancombe make up kit for about $40.. I give them away as a tip if the session was great or if I want them to come back for an all night. Many times I don't pay any cash at all, just some stuff they want. Once I had 2 girls who live in the apartment below me fighting over the stuff and both of them sneaking up to my apt to fuck me for some of the shit I brought with me and making me promise to hold some of the stuff for her until tomorrow and don't give it to the other girl. Have you considered a trip to the south of Brazil? The percentage of Caucasians is higher there but the P4P scene is admittedly not as good as Rio's.

Unless its in a chip and pin machine a lot of UK banks will block it even if you tell them in advance that you are going there. I was advised to not use the machines located in supermarkets etc. Kind of screws you up if you want to use the one in Faramacia do leme at 3am.

No not for free, same price as a session, which is a good deal because the swing club is a 4 hour ordeal a session is 2 hours.. True I'm sure I wouldn't get better than her in the club but I just find it fun being in the club rather than staying alone in my apt with her, it's a night out, it's a big party. She would be my bait and switch. She likes to swing also and I'm as old as her father and she knows that but she said she wouldn't go with just anybody but knows she can have fun with me and that's what it's all about.

My best visits lately have been at Termas 65 and Termas 502, which are both within about 1-2 blocks of 4x4 in Centro. 65 has standard T pricing, whereas 502 is a bit rougher and cheaper. You can google map them I imagine. At 502 you don't wear robes.
There are a few other interesting places I've seen in slightly rougher areas, but I don't know your security preferences.
I've seen very few fellow gringos lately in any place, which is actually really refreshing. But yes the Real's appreciation vs. the US Peso makes me quite price conscious.

I live in Brazil and use my foreign credit cards. I need to phone the credit card companies 4 or 5 times a year to get them unblocked. Had my card cloned twice in Brazil. The thieves didn't have my pin, so it was bogus charges from gas stations and retail outlets that let them sign the slip. Being as the pin wasn't used in any of these transactions, both VISA and AMEX re-credited my account on both occasions. Only had one occasion at L'umo where the goon came with me to my apartment to get the cash. Not a good feeling. Now I always carry sufficient cash when visiting the putarias. No such thing as honor amongst Gentlemen in the pimp/john relationship.

However, I just walked the entire stip and ran smack dab into it no problem. As The scene is basically the same as it was in front of Help so I felt right back at home. Glad you had a good experience there. I have been there a few times over the past several weeks and it is a decent scene, though dominated by the same cliques of girls (apparently they sort of drive away newcomers). Hey guys, this was my 4th visit to Rio, my fave destination in the world for P4P action?

Well, I know, They have good Devassa chopp on Tap there. I got there late but it ends at 1 AM. If your a drinker the beer alone could pay for itself, it probably starts about 8 pm or so, normal dinner time , I believe its just Mon thru Fri though.

Day 2 – Centaurus (Rua Canning, 44)
- Termas in Rio.
I've been to quite a few termas in Rio, my personal favourite is Centaurus. It is the most expensive terma in Rio but for me probably has the best selection of girls. They always try to get you to pay the entrance + a 40 minute session which is 120 + 330 reals up front, but I always just pay the entrance first then if I decide to go with a girl I'll pay for that separately.

Day 3 – Termas Monte Carlo (Rua Hilário Gouveia, 19, Copacabana)
My previous visits to Monte Carlo have been memorable, especially my last visit back in Oct 2009 when I did it with twins! That was one of the best experiences I ever had:.) so I was looking forward to this visit.

Headed out to Solarium tonight to meet Travelrb69, who was back in Rio for a bit -- he had read some of my FKK reports from Germany back in July. I know Solarium and the Zona Sul Ts are pretty pricey these days, and I've been having pretty good luck in Centro at some significantly cheaper Ts introduced to me by BubbaBoy. Like 502 and MV30. Hard to beat R$120 a throw if you find a cutie, and generally I've been seeing 2-3 in each spot.
It wasn't helped by the cab driver dropping me off on the wrong street, about 4 blocks from Rua J.J. Seabra. But I walked a bit and sorted it out. Jardim Botanico always seems "mais tranquilo do que Copacabana" -- may be an illusion, but feels safer. The suco bars are definitely 10%-20% more expensive, at least :)
Solarium remains pretty much the same. 1 perky somewhat cute receptionist and her fatter colleague (who suggested tipping on the way out, which miffed me off a bit). Prices are now (I think) R$70 entrance, R$80 room (40. min), and R$160 girl. With my coupon I got out for R$294 with 1 caipirinha, 1 suco de pessego (for the chick), and 1 water.

What happened to the new club in Barra called The Pier. It was supposed to be the new Help.
Why is everyone referring to a new "help". Unless a new club has a capacity for over 1000 people like Help did, then it is just another Boite in Rio. There are tons of boites already with the capacity of maybe 50 girls, this is a significant difference. Any new club with a capacity of less than 100 girls is not even close to being a new Help.

Day 5 – Termas 4x4, (Rua Buenos Aires, 44, Centro)
In my last 3 visits to Rio I have always stayed in Copacabana so have always been to termas in that area because of convenience but had read reviews about termas in the centro so decided to check it out.

First, props to World Mongerer for some long-overdue good Rio reports. Breaks my heart to continue to hear bad reports on Monte Carlo as it is literally one block from my office
Headed out to Solarium tonight to meet Travelrb69, who was back in Rio for a bit. He had read some of my FKK reports from Germany back in July. I hadn't been to Solarium since moving to Rio on Oct. 1, so I figured I would give it a shot. Picked Monday as they run an internet special where if you print out a form from their site, they give you R$40 off a 40-minute room. Which barely makes up for the R$15 each-way cab there from Copa, but hey
Tell you the truth, I was a bit skeptical on my way out. I know Solarium and the Zona Sul Ts are pretty pricey these days, and I've been having pretty good luck in Centro at some significantly cheaper Ts introduced to me by BubbaBoy. Like 502 and MV30. Hard to beat R$120 a throw if you find a cutie, and generally I've been seeing 2-3 in each spot.
It wasn't helped by the cab driver dropping me off on the wrong street, about 4 blocks from Rua J. J. Seabra. But I walked a bit and sorted it out. Jardim Botanico always seems "mais tranquilo do que Copacabana". May be an illusion, but feels safer. The suco bars are definitely 10%-20% more expensive, at least
Solarium remains pretty much the same. 1 perky somewhat cute receptionist and her fatter colleague (who suggested tipping on the way out, which miffed me off a bit). Prices are now (I think) R$70 entrance, R$80 room (40. Min), and R$160 girl. With my coupon I got out for R$294 with 1 caipirinha, 1 suco de pessego (for the chick), and 1 water.
The showers were still nice and hot, but I find the bathroom / facilities cramped vs. Other T's. I do like the boite in Solarium, a lot. It was a bit slow on Monday night. One girl said about 1/2 the girls were out. But that's OK with me as it gave me ample time to check the place out. Lots of taller, thinner, blonder girls than Centro. 1 black chick, a couple mulattas, some body-builder types (including that chick who used to work at Monte Carlo with the huge dragon tattoo), and also Priscilla (curly blond hair) who does strip-shows sometimes is still there.
There were definitely some doable girls. Won't say the selection was better on a per-girl basis than Centro, but probably overall more doable girls than in 502. I like the vibe in the boite. Besides what Edward M said I didn´t see anyone smoke any cigarettes in Centaurus when I was there in March. I was told that Solarium still allows smoking so I never went there. A couple of Brazilian guys ignored the non-smoking policy in 4x4, and they were just next to me so I asked them to put out their cigarettes. They were pretty drunk and didn´t care, they laughed and continued smoking. I moved on to another part of 4x4 and I don´t know how the staff would have dealt with this. I didn´t bother to tell them.Thats futile asking a no good drunken bum to stop smoking lol. I will just have to talk to management if this happens to me. I know what your gonna say.

What the offical word on smoking in termas? Is it allowed? Do they enforce non smoking rules when inconsiderate patrons ignore the rules.
Someone asked about smoking in the cabines as opposed to the boite. As of July, girls were smoking after sex in the cabines at Luomo, 4x4, Bar 22, Club Florida, and all of the apartments that I went to.
Club Florida was allowing smoking in the boite, but no ashtrays and everyone had to throw them on the floor. Anything goes at Florida, anyway. BA85 as well, in case you expected political correctness at that fine establishment, was still allowing smoking. Just don't do it on the stairs, so no one gets hurt...
Bar 22 allows smoking only at the top of the stairs, and don't move away from that little spot or mama will yell. I found it ironic that a straightout brothel selling me bareback pussy will all money paid to the house, then passing the cut of the money straight to the girl in front of everyone is so concerned about health and/or conformance with local ordinances..haha. There is no pretense about a room charge there.

I was in Club Florida this week, everyone was smoking like it was their last cig. The only other place that I have seen allow smoking so out in the open is T81. Apart from that, most places have been very good in enforcing the law which is fantastic in my book.
I believe they enforce it because the fine is 7 x UPDF's. Which is about R$ 700 now. The enforcement officers aparently have been very good at enforcing it. They will just keep coming back and fining the establishment every night until they enforce no smoking. Nice to see some efficient policing of the laws in Brazil. In fact I was very suprised that Brazil has got this under control so quickly, didn't think it would happen.

Am in town for couple of days, so I set about my research through the week. Crikey there's a lot of info in here, waaay too much for me to have time to go through, but I figured with what I read I'd manage.

Day 6 – Termas L’uomo (Rua Siquiera Campos, 143, second level)
It was a national holiday on Tuesday and I had tried to arrange to meet up with Giovanna (Centaurus girl) for that night. Empty malls, shopping centers and office parks. Foreclosures everywhere. Casinos are slow and they are giving away rooms and food. Of course, the women in the US will never give the level of service as in Brazil.
I'll be back in Brazil starting mid-November for 3 months after being in the states for the past 2 months. Can't wait. Very depressing in the U.S. now.

Rio I will reduce to 1 maybe 2 trips a year, because all the locals are in this "fuck the gringo". A fellow travel agent here in Los Angeles is Brazilian, and he came to US at 21 now he's 42. He is from Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas in Rio. The Balcony and Dolce Vita girls tried R$200-R$300 on him. By the time he was done he paid "R$80" and at "termas centaurus " it's the same. It's the favorite for locals because the owner hates gringos and charge them more twice. The get away with it because you will never get this info. The owner and my friend's family are close and barbeque at each others house. The Ipanema and Copa termas owners do not like gringos and love taking the money!!! Even the little discount for early birds is far over what locals pay. They treat all gringos the same. If you are not brazilian you get "shaken down"! From the shoe shine boy to the crooked cop, and the gdp and terma owner is in the middle.
So gringos should just cool and try other parts of the world like Medellin, Pattaya, Sosua, or anywhere in Brazil. But give Rio a break until they appreciate the gringo client. But some monger will think with his lil' head and figure he can't do without Rio, empowering the Rio asshole locals.
I just did my long awaited trip to Rio and although I had a great time especially in Loumo and Montecarlos my last nite at Balcony went to shit at the end. I think you are overexaggerating the importance of sex-mongers in Rio. The tourism in Rio has never been dependent on sex toruism. The brazilians have money, and they don't mind spending it. There are hords of brazilians on holiday in Europe. The same goes for all the brazilian tourist destinations.
The apartment providers in Copa don't lack clients as they rent to brazilians. The only agencies that might have problems are the ones who were only directed to gringos.

I read an article a few months back that the Rio Government was making an investement in the Othon chain of hotels for renovations. The Othon Palace hotel has been waiting for years for Help to close. Now that Help is closed they are probably going to close to renovate. The Othon Palace hotel has had a negative stgma with regular tourists because it was so close to help. Now that that stigma is removed they can upgrade the property and beome a 5 star hotel again. This is probably what you heard my guess is.

One thing I heard recently is that the owners of the apartments that were being rented are now selling the apartments because the real estate market is high in Rio now so they are cashing in. The people who are buying the apartments are not renting them but are living in them so the supply of apartments is less for availability. This will hurt apartment providers.
Regular tourism in Rio is on the rise as is business travel to Rio. They would have been doing better but had a set back recently with that hostage taking in the Intercontinental hotel. But once that is forgotten and the positive press about the world cup and the olympics then regular tourism will boom, they don't need mongers plus this new president isn't going to be good for mongers either.

- Balcony Bar is a circus like never before. The other night I saw a guy get cracked in the head with a beer bottle by some chica he apparently disrespected and blood came flowing out of the gash in his head like a waterfall. I walked over to his table after I saw nobody really doing anything and said, "put ice in a towel and apply to his head", to which the guy replied, "ice, ice, baby (ala vanilla ice). So he was definitely feeling nice and probably feeling no pain.
- The discount rack is still open at Balcony well past midnight, see my other post. So don't give these girls what they're asking, they're dreamers. If you see a girl you like at 10-12pm just watch her leave with the newbie who gives her what she wished for and an hour later you'll see her come right back while the dude is crashed out from the first good lay of his life! All the newbie guys come and go in 15 minutes and the girls come back. It's funny to watch.
- The rumors of 35% Trannies at Balcony are false, false, false. Maybe 5% if that but they are easy to spot and harmless. The people that I know say there are major players who want to invest milions into hotels and shopping malls, but they cant do it because of the corruption that permeates everything in Brasil. They told me that there are arabic companies that have been trying to purchase huge parcels of land in barra but there are so many sheisty real estate agencies that have fake "official" documents, they have to turn down the deals. It would take an army of lawyers and years of time to be able to figure out to really owns land in brasil.
Where are all these new hotels and shopping areas being built and who is putting up the money behind it? The people I know, work specificaly in the real estate business, so I trust what they say. It would be interesting to hear your 2 cents on this.

I am in the early planning stages of my post divorce trip. The ink isn't even dry on the judgement, but my plans are in motion for a mid-March jaunt. I was strongly considering Thailand, but I love nothing more than a perfect ass so Rio won the battle.

Wow, talk about two different stories! I just got the exact opposite story that you got! The people that I know say there are major players who want to invest milions into hotels and shopping malls, but they can't do it because of the corruption that permeates everything in Brasil. They told me that there are arabic companies that have been trying to purchase huge parcels of land in barra but there are so many sheisty real estate agencies that have fake "official" documents, they have to turn down the deals. It would take an army of lawyers and years of time to be able to figure out to really owns land in brasil.

It is a a showcase for Brazil (coupled with the 2014 World Cup). Many of the sports venues will be converted to facilities for citizens. And Brazil is aiming at dramatically growing tourism into the country (not just mongers!) The country will change dramatically. Many old timers here can't accept thta. Hell, my lady does not accepot it because she heard it all before. Different now.

I have to respectfully disagree with you. Rio isn't/wasn't all about Help or even the greater Zona Sul scene. Check my last Rio reports from late June/Early July. Other than Pattaya, Angeles City or Jakarta I am not sure else where I could have possibly had so much affordable fun. 7 days, 21 girls, tons of memories and not much money. And it's so easy in Rio: transit, girls, food, attractions.

It has become increasingly difficult to book hotel rooms, domestic flights and buses. I need to book further in advance. I see more and more foreigners in hotels and airports. And I am actually involved with a company that is expanding its' charter flight business taking Brazilians to foreign destinations. There are more and more opportunities inside the country everyday. And once the majority of Brazilians themselves come to accept this as fact, then things will take off even more. Some guys are acting as if they are going to run the Olympics on top of Rio as it exists now. Major changes underway.

Sounds like you want to just visit Rio but you are not necessarily interested in Carnaval. If this is the case then I think you answered all of your own questions already. IMHO the best time to go to Rio if you're not interested in Carnaval and the parades then go 1 to several weeks before Carnaval when most of the girls who will be in Rio for Carnaval are already there and most of the tourists are not.

Wow, so many assumptions on this board. Sorry, but I don't get excited by dirty tramps that see more than five guys a day. IMHO, it is nasty and dangerous!
