well, you can get a lot of information if you ask. had a programma with an old friend from centaurus, now at mc. after the deed, started talking about the story about the night they raided centaurus. of course, she was there. i didn't follow a lot of what she said. she became pretty animated after initially being guarded. basically, what i got from it was that it was very non-confrontational. the police came in and in an orderly way, invited people to take their leave and of course, everybody took them up on that. she said the general manager was arrested. yay. couldn't happen to a better person. a jerk imho. i think she said she took the guy she was with and made a quick set up with him to go somewhere else, but i am not sure of that at all. i was trying to find out how they did it. after all, a lot of the rooms had to be occupied. did the cops let them finish or go around banging on doors or what? sounds like they sort of stayed downstairs and just drained the place.

Flights will probably be 2-3 times as expensive as it normally would be. Accommodations are also through the roof in pricing. There are some beachfront apartments that I have rented in the $80-100 dollars per day that require a 10 day stay during Carnaval they get close $10, 000 for those 10 nights. If money isn't an issue, then you have answered your own question.On the other hand: You'll live a unique experience when all the city goes wild. Really wild. Well, not all of them, a lot of cariocas escape directly to Buzios and Angras.
If there's something that sticks in my mind through all the years is the wild Carnival I experienced in Rio ten years ago. Help was still open. Naked girls dancing on your table. Experiencing Sambodromo until early at dawn. Great parties. Wild. Kissing total strangers on the street. Erotism everywhere. And the music. You got to hear those drums. They are better than a rock concert.
A hint: You don't need to spend a fortune. Plan in advance. Find somewhere to crash. And think that most of the time you'll be on the streets, partying or at the Sambodromo. So you don't need a suite at the Copacabana Palace. Just somewhere to sleep and change. And survive.
I don't do it every year. But I recommend the Rio Carnival at least once in a lifetime.

Arrived here yesterday and MC was high on my list due to recent posts. I got there at 5:45pm and decided not to pull the trigger early and look at the inventory. Including myself. 6 other guys in the place. There were 22 girls there, I counted and all were in the main area. Between 7-8 p. But unless you are rich, attractive, have good street cred and reasonable portuguese (or at least two out of three) I'd be inclined to say wait until you get to know the place better.
Is it a bad idea to visit during Carnival?Probably for what you want, yes. Accommodation costs more especially. Carnaval is a good reason to go to Rio, but also expensive.

I just wanted to thank you guys that are on the ground NOW and giving updates and filed reports on Tier 1 Termas like (Slimholedrill and HoleRanger) and any others I forgot to name you guys are taking time out of your trip to give us reports on what is going on so thanks you don't or didn't have to do it ...
To me this should be a Monger in Rio DREAM right now to have some of the higher price Termas shut down and have the top dimes in them run to other lower price Termas this way you don't have to run around paying and jumping in and out of Taxis to go to different Termas I would have LOVED to see these dimes fighting over attention from the Tricks in these places now LOL LOL lets keep in mind there is just so much or so many dollars / reals to go around many girls will be left out and go hungry rent needs to be paid and bills need to be paid..

Not even close! The talent level at 4x4 vs. Monte Carlo. I arrive around 6 p. M, there were about 15 girls there and at least 40+ men. Most of the guys were locals flashing their chest. The ratio of men to women was about 3:1. The girls are thick generally, it's ok but I do like them a bit slimmer, I did spot 2 that caught my attention but their attitudes were all wrong. So one of the things that bugs me, working in Brazil, is that nobody ever accepts blame. It's never their fault. They never take responsibility.
I was on vacation for the first time in 2 years, and I went to process payroll for our business using the online banking system from our brasil bank. Except it didn't process. And said my limit had been exceeded. Turns out the bank lowered all our limits, without telling us, to something crazy little like R$20K. So I bitched and it was the ONE time the bank actually apologized and said "Our bad. Sorry!". I was stunned. I saved the email.
So anyway, tonight I'm coming back with my friend, his brazilian girlfriend, and a brazilian girl I like. We're in Leblon and grab a cab to head back to copa. The driver clearly understands where we're going but "goes to take the beach". And this at 10. 30pm on a Saturday night. When he should have just gone straight down Ataulfo de Paiva into Ipanema and from there down Nossa Senhora. Except he fucks up even worse when he reaches the beach, and there's no turn-back to let him head towards Copa. So he starts heading to Barra and there's just no turn. I ask him where he intends to turn and he says "up ahead". Yeah right. So he reaches the end of Leblon beach where it starts to go up the hill, and there's a big "No U-Turn" sign. And he realizes he's out of options and swings the U-turn. And we start heading back to Copa. And this whole detour (desvio) has added at least R$5 to the meter, if not more.
So we get to Copa and our destination. The meter says R$22 and he pulls out the little chart. I hand him a R$20 note and say in porto,"that should be enough, right?" and he says, um, no it's R$24 reading of the chart. And I say,"Amigo, what about the discount for the detour? It was at least R$5 on the meter." And he gets all upset and says "I'm working here, give me a break." Fucker. Take fucking responsibility. So look in my wallet and pull out R$2 in coins. Tell him this is all the change I have. And he still keeps on about how its R$24. Motherfucker. Own up to trying to bone us a little with the beach thing, but fucking it up and adding too much to the trip. But he won't budge. And I can't risk a drawn out argument over R$5. So I toss a $5 at him instead of the coins and head out, telling him it's a disgrace and he should be ashamed. Meh.

I booked my filght in Oct. 2010.
We rented a 3 bedroom / 2 baths apartment for $4, 180 for 10 days. So thats $140 per person / per night. The apartment had cable tv, internet, A / C, doorman. It was 1/2 block from the beach and 1 block from the Balcony. Carnival is worth going atleast once. The Sombadome was nice, but we had to stand.
I like the parades and parties that were on the street. They party none stop in Rio.
The only thing I will suggest is to either get to Rio 6 or 7 days before Carnival or leave 6 or 7 days after Carnival. I say this becuase most of the termas or privies are close or if they are open there are not to many girls. We stayed from Feb 29. March 10. Carnival was from March 5 to March 8. Businesses didn't back in full swing until March 10th.

But sadly unlike you some other mongers can live in Rio for decades and only know were to find cheap apt. By the time we finally got to the hotel his meter was around 60 reals I jump out and grab my bags and give him 40 reals (the Taxi driver came walking behind me crying I owe him more) I saw the doorman I knew from last time I was there and told him what happen he was talking to this black policeman that was a friend of his I acted a fool on that Taxi driver telling him I wasn't going to give him a dime more then what I told him I was going to give him and to make it worst on the Taxi driver, the police asked him for some paperwork he didn't have and give him a ticket and a "fine" LOL LOL and told him to leave before he get his Taxi towed (we all high five each other and laugh after the Taxi driver left all [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) off) LOL
I hate to think how many rip offs like this is going to happen when the World Cup and the games come to Rio these Taxi drivers will be worst then those clowns that was waiting outside of Club Help back in the days I would always go down to BOB's and catch one of those taxis that would take me back to my hotel at a better price. Now those outlaw taxi drivers either got into another line of work or is still trying to rip off gringos.

stopped by today to check out the inventory. in the back of my mind i was hoping that the glut of talent had spilled over to this spot. three guys in the waiting area including myself. seven girls came out to greet us. i would place most in the 5-7 range. i waited 20 mins just in case there were more in the rooms. after 20 mins, no new faces and nothing really motivated me. four to five were doable but i've been spoiled by monte carlo and must return there again.

Arrived here yesterday and MC was high on my list due to recent posts. I got there at 5:45pm and decided not to pull the trigger early and look at the inventory. Love Story in Sao Paulo, similar to Help but not exactly the same, more of a mixed crowd. Plus Sao Paulo is not hosting world cup or Olympics. Also Love Story is not in the middle of Copacabana Beach and it looks like they are trying to turn it into a world class resort destination. Rio better be paying attention to the London Olympics! If a poor Olympics can happen in a 1st world country with a strong currency and near to the euro zone, which is strong than any currency in South America, then Rio's Olympics will be a bust. Plus, if London's museums are empty and are better than any museum Rio can build on the old Club Help sight, Rio can't afford to make money off the Olympics. Has anyone else observed this? In that past couple of years, with the dolllar in the toilet and Rio becoming so expensive, I know more and more guys who are inporting GDPs. Kid Cisco, you make some really good points about Brazilian girls. I haven't been to Brazil yet, but I have dated a Brazilian girl in the states that worked as a stripper. I think it's really funny to read all these of accounts of people saying how the Brazilian women "hate" their own men. The girl I was with would always tell me how much she HATED Brazilian men, LOL. Anyways, after a while I realized this girl had all sorts of issues, and was literally obsessed with the blonde hair / blue eye look. But she was soooo fixated on the blonde hair thing, like she had this biological imperative to have kids with blonde hair. Anyways, she had major insecurity issues. It sadly didn't work out, and I really did fall in love with this girl. The biggest problem looking back, and I think a big issue for anyone looking towards Brazilian girls (vs American girls) for happiness, is the differences in education levels. A lot of these girls don't have much of an education at all (at least the "Working girls"). It's as if all their intelligence is focused towards money and appearance (vs learning / bettering oneself, wanting a real, cerebral relationship / family. What you would expect with an American girl). They like the "image", the idea of the beautiful family / man / money. But without the substance behind it. And I am telling you. These Brazilian girls are sooo good at making you fall for that dream. I found myself wanting to marry this girl and have kids, despite the fact we were on different worlds, intellectually. They are just sooo sexy and exotic (no other girls in the world can compete) and they know it, so they use it to their advantage. I think Brazilian girls "love to love" and they are so passionate that you get drawn into their world. You get lost in the fantasy. In visions of a new life with a beautiful Brazilian girl, living the tropical dream, away from the cold, mechanical American way of life.
I also think because prostitution is so prevalent in Brazil that it doesn't care the same level of shame as it does in the US. To some degree, it's just another job. It's as if they can be split their real lives and professional lives in a way that American strippers / sex workers can't. At least that's the sense I got from being with this girl. And you fall for it, hook, line and sinker. There's no way I would date American girl that was a stripper and ever believe her bullsh*t about her being able to separate things. Because I know she doesn't "have" to strip because we live in a good country. My guess is that they'll try to push most of the mongering activity away from copacabana but there will always be termas in Rio. If not,"massage parlors" and prives will pick up the slack. Rio wants turistas frolicking the beaches of leme, Copa and Ipanema.

I have to submit a proposal by next week for a study abroad program in economics for a community college. Would like to find an educational institution in Rio close enough to monger but far enough and safe enough to pass the smell test, does anyone have connections or know of Universities / Educational institutions. Where we could rent class rooms dorms ect. Does anyone have connections with the central bank, economic development, oil and gas industry, in Brazil that could give my students tours or speak to my students (in English). We are from Houston so the economic development of Brazil because of the oil and gas industry will be a good fit. I would go down the first year by myself to set it up, the school pays for my airfare hotel meals etc. Then I would have to go down with the students for three consecutive summers after that. Once the students go back I can stay for a few days and monger.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I just canceled my trip at the last min because it doesn't make sense to me anymore. I'm makin my next trip to Rio by Jan 5th. I just quit because the trip I made in May cost me almost $400 expense when I averaged the whole trip. Why not stay home similar chiks 1/4 the price. It's official, Rio as we have known is going. There has been a spirited debate here recently on the demise of mongering venues especially in copa. This article basically confirms that recent events in monger land in Rio are concerted and officially sanctioned. Unfortunately, things didn't turn out how I wanted, but that's OK, as I learned a lot of valuable lessons. I'm definitely more cautious now as I plan my first trip to Brazil for next year.
I just want to add a few more observations. Not only did this girl shun the prospect of dating Brazilian men, but she seemed obsessed with American culture (maybe as obsessed as I am with Brazilian culture, but in a different way). It's as if she wanted to divest herself of her poor Brazilian past and and "decorate" her self anew with American culture. I found it amazing how somehow from such humble beginnings could become so fixated on material things. Always having to dress up no matter where we would go. Always buying the most expensive cloths / shoes / appliances etc etc. As if her worth was now determined by what she surrounded herself with. I once spilled something on this girl's expensive table and I thought she was going to take my head off, LOL. I realize that this IS the negative aspect of American consumer culture that affects many women, but the difference I noted with this Brazilian girl was how she "lusted" after material items, the same way she almost lusted after me, and how she lusted after the "image" of a that perfect dream life. It's as if that sexually frenzied nature of Brazilian women that we all love, doesn't stop in the bedroom. They become frenzied over everything.
This made me wonder if this is a serious issue with Brazilian girls still in Brazil or if American culture "ruins" Brazilian girls when they get here. I. E. These girls realize that they become a much hotter commodity once they get into this country. Guys aren't used to girls like this like they are in Brazil. I heard that the only two groups that enjoy life in Brazil are the rich and beautiful. And I'm beginning to see how that might be the truth.
There's a documentary about black Americans going to Brazil to find love and / or sex called "Frustrated." After watching the documentary (after being with my Brazilian girl) , I became "frustrated" seeing how naive "some" (not all) of the black guys in the film seemed to be regarding Brazilian girls. They were just like me before my relationship, looking at Brazilian women like the holy grail of women. I mean, they still are the holy grail of women to me, but I realize how crucial it is now to be realistic regarding these women.
This all brings me back to the difference in education levels. For a lot of these girls, especially the poor, their hot body and pretty face is their meal ticket to a better life, the easy life. I have to submit a proposal by next week for a study abroad program in economics for a community college. Would like to find an educational institution in Rio close enough to monger but far enough and safe enough to pass the smell test, does anyone have connections or know of Universities / Educational institutions. Does anyone have connections with the central bank, economic development, oil and gas industry, in Brazil that could give my students tours or speak to my students (in English). During my last visit in 2011 Solarium was open Sunday from approximately 16:00 to 24:00. Not many girls there that day (say 20) but still some good one. This was also indicated on the website. However now their website is under renovations.
Anyway, are you sure that Solarium is now closed on Sunday? If it is the case, there is really nothing to do that day and for me it is really a pitty because I can be in Rio just during the weekends (from Friday night to Sunday night) due to working reasons.

Exactly. They have good intentions, give you the number, even agree on a time to call on Sunday. Last time it was oh yeah call me at 9 or 10 on Sunday, then when you call there is some family excuse. Went to Centaurus yesterday (Saturday). Just came across it without looking for it but knew of it from the forum. I was surprised at the price. 140 Real entrance fee and 350 Real for a lady (40 minutes). Total of 490 (about US$ 220) , which I thought was steep. But what the heck, how often are you in Rio? The manager at the front desk was nice and professional and spoke good English. Courteous guy in my view.
Routine as described here. Change into a clean but faded and well used white robe. Lock your clothes and belongings in a locker, take a (cold) shower and then upstairs to see the girls. I was surprised by how small the main room was. I expected bigger given what I had heard about Centaurus.
The manager said he had 65 girls. I saw probably 40 or so while I was there. Ranged from a 7 with lots of 8's, a few 9's and a couple of 10's. Mostly white skinned, some with a bit of tan. Thursday I have been at 4x4. It is my second time there (first was in 2011) , and as the previous time also this time I didn't saw so many girl as described in the forum. Gents, here goes a summary of my first day back in Rio after a two year absence.
Flight & Bus ride: Arrived Rio at 8:30 am from New York by way of Charlotte. Cleared customs in a record 20 minutes despite a long line; They had extra officers working the line and pushing things. Made a right after exiting the arrivals terminal to take the blue bus to copa. Bus fare is R$12 (was R$7 last I was here). Ask before entering the bus as the ones going to the local airport and copa look the same. Bus ride is 45 minutes and got dropped off in front of copa palace.
Hotel: walked the two blocks to Hotel Praia Lido on Nosso Senhora Copacabana. The front desk clerk, Andre, whom I've known for over ten years, quoted me R$195 for a regular room and R$330 for a suite per noite. Took the regular room, put my things away and went down stairs to change money and stock up on Preserv Extra condoms (still the best these years). Exchange rate is R$2. 00 to R$2. 10. I got R$2. 05 at the cambio opposite Hotel Praia Lido.
Girls: Dropped by balcony, ordered a skol and sat down to check out the scene. A lot of the garotas were well past their expiration but there were at least three that were at least a 7. I suspect you might have had a bit of a newbie look on your face; asking "how much" didn't help either.
Now I can respect the concept of a "takeout fee" or fine but since she quoted an outrageous price, that's a warning that she probably saw you as an easy sucker from the get-go, so she might not even be worth a lay for any price at this point. Better strategy that might redeem your chances in this situation is to ask her if she can come over to your place after her shift is over and that you'll make it worth her while. I'd say 500r for a 2 hr roll in the hay is more than enough for her, especially if the night is slow and she's clearly desperate for some cash. I'm sure some guys here will insist even that is too much but that would be my ceiling for a C girl who I think is a 9 or 10.

It went through rodoviara. Av. Rio branco- santos dummont airport. Botafogo then finally to Copa. I swear there were times where 2-3 passengers were standing with no seat available.
After 15 hours flying and connection time between flights, one must question whether an additional 20 bucks is worth the taxi investement and not riding though Rio traffic mess on a Friday morning.

People already commented about this but just wanted to say I think the problem here is more attitude and lack of experience than just "blame the venue." I suspect you might have had a bit of a newbie look on your face; asking "how much" didn't help either.Phunluv you make some good observations. I am still baffled (and a bit amused) by the outrageous price quote. Because I am a definitive newbie? Maybe. But still, how many guys would shell out that kind of money anyway? Seems it is not good business. I presume the garote has some say in the price, but management definitely wants its cut for "loss of services."
What I don't understand is that it was fairly slow that night. The girl with the big price tag said it was the slowest she had seen "the house." At 500, I might have been tempted. But 2450? Not even a thought. One other thing. The in the door price is BR490. Already, they are pulling customers who are wealthy, naive, or want the once in a life time Centaurus experience. Visited Balcony a couple of times this last week. Last Sunday, very quiet. Very few women that I would rate 8 or above. Lots of 6's and 7's. (I think Sunday is just a slow day for the game in Rio. She probably has a shtick she tries on the newbiest looking john in the joint every night. The price quote has nothing to do with rational business logic and everything to do with Brazilian emotional logic. It's easy to understand if you know the culture down there a bit. In the tourist heavy parts of Brazil, there's this attitude / notion that gringos are a bit dumb when it comes to throwing their money around, and therefore it's the Brazilian's job to take whatever they can get away with no matter how outrageous the amount may seem.
One thing I might have tried is ask to speak to the manager and just give him an offer, just to see what the manager says.
Basically, try to be a bit less passive; asking "how much" should always be the last thing to try on your list. If you take initiative and throw out a realistic offer, the girl thinks you know what you're doing and are not a sucker, and that you like her and are not just shopping around based on price. Obviously, you have to do a little research online for this to work; and sometimes, I even ask or talk with the local guys a bit as long as I don't get the feeling that they see me as intruding or competition. Part of the hooker culture is that the girls become insecure if they feel they are selling themselves for less than the other girls in her group or "cohort" so I try to avoid haggling the price down too much with the girl. That can sour the girls attitude in the session.

Greetings! A new post here from someone following this board for some time. First and foremost, a big thanks to many of you for sharing your experiences and knowledge here! It has been extremely helpful, and at times, fun to read. This is my second trip to Rio and this week my first full week dedicated to mongering. Started late tonight with a call to star cris and 30 minutes later Karen was at my door. First impression: wow, they got some pretty good graphic guys doing some fancy photoshopping on those sites. Karen was nice, but her pics online were far nicer. Also, they quoted me R150 for 2 hours even though the site states R130. I needed a piece, so I paid the extra R20.
