Obviously some GPs really miss Help a lot. They used to charge R$300-500 at Help. Today at Balcony the average charge is R$100-150.Yeah but back when help was open the US Dollar was 3 to 1. Or even 4. So it's almost the same.

For a reference point, when I first went to Rio in Feb 2000, the US Dollar was worth only 1.7 Real. Yes, the US Dollar was weaker back then than that it has been the last few years. More significantly, in the last 6 years, Brasil has had quite high inflation, which is very evident in the price of a Termas visit.
Yeah but back when help was open the US Dollar was 3 to 1. Or even 4. So it's almost the same.
Help was open between 1986(?)-2010 and the exchange rates (and currencies) varied a lot during that time. However it´s definitely not the same for the GP's receiving R$400 ten years ago or R$150 today.
I also visit Copacabana and their well known Bar Lagoa, there so many pretty girls there who wants a real party. And obviously even if you're a stranger in that place they will treat you nice. I really enjoy this place. Here it is.

Reported in yesterday's Oglobo, the Secretary of Public Order, (SEOP) has started proceedings to revoke Balcony Bar's License because the bar continues to operate between 1a and 5a. The bar has been fined $R175, 40 times for this and for having tables and chairs on the sidewalk. Boate Kalabria is also in danger of losing it's license. (It's around the corner from Balcony.) Balcony Bar has 10 days to appeal. This being Brazil, Boate Kalabria still operates normally, in spite of being notified of it's License revocation Aug 22. This is a response to Oglobo's report on 9/26 about the irregularities at Balcony Bar and boate Kalabria. Balcony Bar's days are numbered, maybe.

Hi guys,
I'll be in Barra the Tijuca for several days next month. Are there any good termas in Barra or do I have to go to Ipanema or Copa? I read on another site about places named the Paris Cafe, Cafe 400, and Termas Âncora do Recreio. Anyone know if they are any good? My hotel will be very close to Cafe 400 so I'm most interested in intel on that.
Unfortunately I'll be sharing a hotel room with a colleague so my usual escort method isn't an option. But I'm looking forward to checking out some of these termas I've read so much about! (Aside) some things never change, this forum always seems to have some numpty trying to tell us why BR / Rio sucks now. I will say one thing and one thing only on this subject. Having been a long time monger, and having much experience outside of Brazil plus several years experience living in Brazil, mostly Sampa, I met many GPs, and almost without exception those that had worked outside of Brazil were jaded, money hungry, hard pros. In contrast to the GPs that had never left Brazil, who were personable, fun, and willing to relate to clients in a YMMV style. This leads me to conclude that, while you can find attractive GPs outside of BR, the experience you will get outside Brasil is not the same as what you will get inside Brasil. Guys that fixate on price. Sure you can get an hour in some other country for less, but you can't get the leisurely multi-hour full cycle experience, and you sure as hell can't get the boate or terma experience, well we know that or we wouldn't be here. Enuf.
Was in Salvador and Rio in Jan / Feb of 2013, see reports, Sperto was right, that I should have just come to Rio, but at least I satisfied my curiosity about Salvador. Now, the next phase begins. I end my exile in 2014, and will return to Brasil. I hope to spend a month or more in several cities (POA, Curitiba, perhaps, Goiania, who knows). But I will start off in Rio at least for April and May. Stlll undecided where to go during the Copa period, as I don't fancy paying 5x rates) , may go to a non-host city like Goiania and just enjoy games in bars with locals. Any opinion on that plan?
Now, to the point of this post. I am planning my first leg, Rio April and May 2014. I already know the full gamut of Rio monger locations in zona sul and centro, last January, I think I visited nearly every prive and massagem in the centro. So this is not a question on where to go for mongering. It is a question of where to live to get a nice carioca experience. Last time, I lived one week in Catete and one in Lapa. Lapa is cool to visit, but did not like living there. Catete was ok.
This time, I plan to either stay 2 months in 1 place, or 1 month each in 2 places. I am starting off with a rental on Praia de Botafogo for April. I chose Botafogo for its convenient location be / t beaches and centro. However, my question is whether to stay there for both months or spend May in a different location, like Copa or Ipanema or other. Just trying to think through the pros and cons. Staying in one place increases chances of developing more local acquaintances but maybe I will find Botafogo boring. Just trying to think through the daily opportunities, working out at gym, eating in cafes, strolling for pleasure, meeting locals, non-pros etc. Right now, I am thinking of spending May in Copa or Ipanema rather than staying 2 months in Botafogo. Cost of rental is inconsequential as I can find comparable monthly rental rates in all locations as long as I act early enough. Sooooo. What do the Rio experts recommend? 2 months in Botafogo or 1 month in Botafogo and 1 month where?
BTW, for those that like to work out, I found a site called gympass that provides daily and montly rates for participating academias.

Obviously, Bonsucesso is outside the comfort zone of most tourists, but I have subtantial experience in Brazil and speak Portoguese. Just don't have experience in Bonsucesso or these clubs, so I would like to know in advance, whether it's cool to go to these places via taxi and whether the quality of garota is worth the trip.

Copa is a shithole. The only problem with staying in Ipanema these days is that, at least for a while more, the metro is closed at General Osorio as they build out the line towards Barra. I wouldn't stay somewhere that didn't have easy Metro access to get to Centro and other places.
Botafogo / Flamingo is nice enough and gives easy access via metro or cab or bus to just about anywhere you want (except barra, but who wants to go there?). Just get a place near the Metro.

I know Osorio is closed until Jan 2014, supposed to open after that, but I would hedge bets and get place near Ipa / Copa border to allow access to Cantagolo station as fallback. If I were gay, I would head straight to Ipanema, LOL, but I'm straight, so I am not sure that is a good strategy. As you say, Copa is a bit of a dump, but it might be nice to get up and be able to go jogging on the praia, walk to massagem, just hang out.
From what I understand Botafogo is a business hub, tho it supposedly has some up and coming nightlife areas too. Hard to say.

There is a bus from Copacabana that goes all the way to Bonsucesso. It takes a while to get there. It could be worth the ride if you combine the B&W visit with a teleferico ride over Complexo do Alemão. Very nice and only cost R$1. I found it perfectly save as the favelas are under control of UPP.

First I'd skip Posto 9 at Ipanema (gay area) but 2nd and more important I think people at Ipanema are more poshy. Therefore imo it is a lot easier to find locals / GdPs at Praia Copacabana.

The teleférico isn't build for tourists (even though it's getting visited by more and more tourists). It's built for the people living in Complexo do Alemão. It has several stations: Bonsucesso, Adeus, Baiana, Alemão, Itararé and Palmeiras. You can get off at any station to have a drink and enjoy the views. I've been to many favelas in Rio, but this is one of the most impressive when it comes to size. The teléferico isn't a zoo-tour like the ridiculous jeep-tours going to Rocinha.

You will have to make due with strip clubs, massage places or just take a GDP to Panda Motel for a change.
In Centro the only place I know thats open on Saturday even is Bar Florida-as area caters primarily to business people.

The Centaurus prices continue to be absurd, but not by SP standards at a place like Cafe Foto (where the girl will ask for between R$500-R$600 to go out, though you can negotiate down if you're cute enough, speak enough Porto, and she needs the cash). Clearly absurd by other SP location pricing. I haven't been in there for so long I can't comment on the talent. Same for T65, which I really used to like but I haven't been there for ages since the talent started to decline. Shame.
MC is a reasonable value if you register for the "loyalty program" where the waive the entrance every time you spend R$500. Without that, it's not cheap. I was in there the other night and the current crop is still pretty "thick". Hoping it will change with summer coming.
I believe 502's pricing is still around R$200 for a 1 hr suite with the R$20 entrada (3 free beers) , and I think MV30's pricing is in that ballpark (R$220 for an hour?) but there are no free drinks with the R$20 entrada.

First of all, thanks to the members of this forum for some great tips and tricks on mongering in Brazil!
So I got to Rio on a Friday but decided not to go out that night figured I'd hit some of the termas on Saturday instead. Little did I know that Saturday was some national Catholic holiday in Brazil and all of the termas were closed! Apparently the working girls in Brazil are devout Catholics? LOL whatever.
They're closed on Sundays also so I didn't get to check any out until Monday night 10/14/13 by which time I was really excited to finally check out these Brazilian termas I had read so much about!
Ok so anyway, I've been with a ton of working girls mostly outside the US while traveling on business. I've done the escort thing, the red light district thing, the brothels, the massage places, etc. What I've never done is a sauna type club like the mega famous FKK places in Germany. I've always wanted to but the last time I was close to one was back when I didn't have much money to hobby!
So when I read about Termas I was pumped up about it! I've been to Brazil before and had an amazing few nights with an escort while I was in Recife. So I have a fondness for Brazilian girls!

It was only around 7pm so its early at this point. I was a bit nervous just from the surreal nature of the whole thing so I go to the bar and get a caipirinha which was reasonably priced at around $6. The Centaurus prices continue to be absurd, but not by SP standards at a place like Cafe Foto (where the girl will ask for between R$500-R$600 to go out, though you can negotiate down if you're cute enough, speak enough Porto, and she needs the cash). But the actual composition of the lineups change so frequently that you just have to go and see for yourself. For all I know, I could go back to Centaurus tomorrow and find it a big disappointment again. Just about all the major cell carriers have prepaid sim cards that are sold at any newsstand. You will need a CPF to register the phone to get to it to work. Reading and speaking Portuguese definitely makes it easier.To get a CPF you have to go to a Receite Federal office and get one! Or have a brasilian friend buy a Sim for you.

Or do I need to do something else to be able to use it again or is it not possible at all to use this chip? I know how much of a hassle it is to get a new chip and make it work by trying to find someone and use their CPF, so I'd rather use my own chip again if possible.

I was in Rio from Oct 16 to the 23rd. The taxi was about 50R which we picked up on the upper level. We stayed at a 2bd apartment that we rented from Eric at www.copaapartments.com For 330R a night. In my opinion, this place is one of the best places going in terms of price, quality of women, and facilities. It is not the best in any of these categories, but for all three categories together, I'm not sure it can be beat. We got there around 5pm on Wednesday. There is probably 10. 15 girls working there and they do the presentation / introduction when you arrive. The entrance is free and it currently costs 120R for 40 minutes. Completely new here. I'll be headed to Rio here at the beginning of December for a week on business, and don't speak a lick of Portuguese. I speak some Spanish. Agreed, its all about volume, keep looking. When I was there last January I went from door to door until I found what I liked. The good thing is the centro prives are super concentrated on Rio branco and nearby. You can visit a dozen in about 2 hours. Note the ones you like and then return more leisurely.
I was surprised that the facilities in most were way inferior to the Sampa clinicas, night and day different. But in Sampa they are spread out so you can't jump around and window shop. I have been busy for long time and I didn't report any new experience from my last trip to Brazil, my bad. I'm going to talk about Amanda Mozer, is a semi pro, I met through facebook initially was a chit chat but I have patience to follow up this lady, she is in her 30's stunning body as you will see in the pics attached in this report. I believe the cost would be the same as an American getting a Brazilian visa since they do this in reciprocity.
I had 2 friends in the past, one already had a visa but it was expiring soon, she wanted to visit me in New York. I asked her if she thinks she would have a problem getting a new visa, she said no because she has a condo a car and she works for the Bank of Brasil essentially a government worker so she presents no flight risk.
Another woman I knew also had a condo and a car and was an architect, she also wanted to come visit me and felt there would be no issues in getting a visa.
My friend had a beautiful girlfriend in Rio, she had no assets and couldn't really produce any documentation of employment, she had been turned down several times for a Visa to the US.
So the question that you need to ask yourself is is my girlfriend a woman of means or a brokeass GDP? I think the visa cost is now $110 maybe more I did recently get a 10 year visa, whatever it's not really a lot of money but you have to look like a person who has something to come back to.
Maybe others here have different experiences.

The brasilian has to show that they have a very good reason o come back to Brasil. (Property, Employment, Children, School, etc.) If they don't have anything that will compel them to return, then they won't get tourist visas. I know a gdp named Evelyn who was turned down twice for a tourist visa to the states but she did get a fiancée visa with no problems.

Seems like a way to make money by jacking up a service fee but that could just be my jaded self venting about ATM's at strip clubs in the states.

SNThe Asian girl who used to work in 4x4 was stealing money on cards for a while, I don't know if she is still there or not. IMHO its best not to use your credit card or debit card for ANYTHING while in brasil! It is only for emergency purposes.

Their bad!Yeah Credit Cards are the best, especially when you use American Express, I love Amex they will chargeback anything in a hard beat and they tend to be on your side and not the merchant, which is why a lot merchants do not accept Amex.
Credit cards are better if there is any fraud you can always despite the charges and do a chargeback,
Never use a Debit Card, it is usually linked to your bank account and its hard to fight fraud charges as its your personal money and not the banks.
Thanks for the info guys. It does make sense to stick to cash and cash only. I'm just hesitant on carrying around a very good night's worth of cash on me. Maybe a money belt won't be such a bad investment. Can't wait to see and experience what I've been reading about in a few weeks.

It's their "13º saláRio".13th Salario and the guaranteed annual raise (7-7. 3% in SP / Rio this year) are horrible items for Brazilian businesses. It's a vicious cycle of inflation. I have PJs (businesses) under monthly contract who write a 13th salary payment into their contracted rates! I can't imagine getting a 7% guaranteed annual raise in the USA. Your choice in Brazil is to fire someone or give them a raise, and if you fire them before the annual raise (dissidio) comes out, they can challenge you for not having waited until after it came out (as it affects their severance). Fucking clown show.
Is it similar for UK? It doesn't seem like they need a visa-just return ticket and money or sponsor.That's about the size of it and I'm 99% confident that same ruling applies to Brazilians entering all European Union countries plus most of the non EU states & also Russia.
Basically all Brazilians need for UK entry clearance is a return ticket and in the event they are queried by an immigration officer then they would just need to answer a few simple questions confirming they are not seeking employment and have either access to enough funds for the duration of their stay, a sponsor's letter is seemingly proof enough and their passport is stamped for a six month stay.
