I've since managed to beat that record but there's a lot of choice, especially on a good night. With BA the claustrophobia kicks in a bit with me and I don't think I've ever done more than a couple. It's too tempting to nip round the corner to Uru24 or Rua Carioca and see what's on offer. But I'm sure it must be doable. Start early in the day and carry on till the peak time girls arrive and spice things up.

Same deal......what the hell is going in? So we go down stairs to the lobby and he asks the guy in the front desk if he knows whats up. Yep, you got it......police has shut down the massage places in both building as of 5:30 wed. afternoon.

Plus you can walk about unhindered without navigating that tiny staircase.
There have been discussions on the board at various times regarding quality at VM. I posted pictures and I think most agreed that the best women of the bunch were VM not 4x4, but that was only my experiences. Most people will find more doables and faster at 4x4. BA85 is somewhere inbetween (and much cheaper than 4x4 if you want to do four or five!) I think VM is a lot to do with whether you like the atmosphere. If you do, you'll get to know the place and how to get the best from it. If you don't, I suppose there's not much point - stick to the termas or Help.
Hoping it's not stating the obvious - VM is 24/7 but peak times are late evening I reckon, especially Thu to Sat. A good way to find the best girls (apart from luck) is to drink at one bar for quite a while. When the good lookers appear you can try to bag them before the next person does. Bear in mind also some of them are picky (seeing as everyone pays the same, if they are constantly busy they might as well be). I don't mean to infer that I'm young or good looking - I'm not. My Porto and dance skills are pretty average. I never tip. But I have learnt how to pay girls attention to make them feel special - at least in the relatively uncompetitive mongering market.

Peak time BA85 - opinions vary but when people come out of work or are on lunch break are busiest times so most girls on. I was in BA 85 daily for most of the last week and a half. It seems the best quality girls are on floors 1 (2 cute blondes, black girl Carol, and Luhma), and floor 4 (black girl kelli and Melinie). Floor 3 has one blonde and floor 5 is a bit rough. Floor 2 is still very rough.

BA 85 is open on Saturdays. Usually there are 1 or 2 floors open. ON Saturdays, floor 2 is always open. Floor one is open quite often but usually staffed by girls from the other floors, especially from floor 3.

181 Rio B. is Flavia Massage....thats the second place I visited that was shut down as well. But there is good news, both places are up and runnning again. But they are short on staff. So give it a week or so before you make a vist to either place.

What's up everybody. I'm currently partaking in my first ever trip to Rio de Janeiro and I thought it would be good to share some of my experiences so far as a complete newbie. I went on a little adventure earlier and I'm glad that I did. This is my first report so bear with me.
Yesterday I gave myself a little tour of Centro. I wanted to know exactly where BA85 and 4x4 were as well as the casas de massagem. Unfortunatly as this was a somewhat impromptu tour I had forgotten to bring Sperto's map, and without it I didn't have much of a chance finding the places that didn't have their addresses in their name...
After finding BA85 and 4x4 I decided that I might as well check out BA85 since I was there and I hadn't brought enough money with me to venture into 4x4.
Newbie take on BA85:
Wow, it was not what I had in mind. Loud music, good. Lots of garotas, better. My very limited Portuguese, bad. Treacherous stairs, worst. I came in wanting to take my time and find someone good. I remembered hearing bad things about the first floor so I skipped it my first time through and went exploring. There are definitely some good ones in there but you have to look, and I would suggest getting a good stretch in prior to entering. I ended up going up and down those stais so many times that I caught a cramp in my calf and I'm in good shape. I figured that was a sign, so I went looking for some of the garotas that had caught my eye during one of my climbs.
I found one, but a combination of nerves and tiredness prevented me from asking her name. She was on the 4th floor, if I remember correctly, and was wearing a leopard print one piece that showed off her bunda nicely. We talk for honestly a minute, the language barrier is strong with this one. And I'm not getting answers that I like from the few questions that I could bring myself to remember. But I liked her bunda and I was ready to leave so I figured, what's R$15 and went for it.
She offered the bathroom, it was pretty gross so I pretty much was in and out of there. The cabine was small but adequate and the bed was better than I had imagined. Service was mechanical and everything was covered. It was nothing special. But I couldn't really expect more from someone I didn't even take the time to get to know. I finished up and left.
Overall, I believe that this is a place that could grow on you, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it as a newbie's first trip. I found it a little daunting and knowing practically no Portuguese with all the locals that were there was not a good thing. I'm sure a couple guys asked me about another floor or told me to pass them on the stairs, but instead I would just nod and smile. Once I have a better grasp of the language I may return but not during this trip.
Tijuca Massagens (Adventure):
Now for my adventure. Last night I was too tired to go out and instead decided to do some research for today and call it an early night. I checked out a couple places and found this place while browsing gpguia, http://www.massagemtijuca.com.br/. It is located in Maracanã at Av. Paula e Souza, 214. I couldn't find any reference to it on here and decided that since it seemed to have some good reviews there I would check it out and share a gringo's perspective.
When you arrive they buzz you in (close the door unless you happen to like having Brazilian garotas screaming "fecha la porta" at you) and you enter a nicely sized casa that unfortunately smells slightly of smoke. They take you into a small room with comfortable couches and bring in all of the girls that are available. Now a quick notice, the pics on the site are photoshopped and I mean photoshopped... Not to say that they aren't attractive, just not as attractive as they are on the site. There were about 8-10 garotas, I honestly was concentrating so hard on the ones that I liked from the site and that the ones that I liked in person that I forgot to count. I settled on Beatriz. They ask you how long, R$50 for 30 and R$90 for an hour. They also have a half hour dupla for R$75 and hour dupla for R$150. I went with 30 and up we went.
She is 23, has a very pretty face, nice lips, great bunda, and speaks enough English for us to be able to converse with my broken Portuguese. The room was nice albeit a little smokey. Bed was big and comfortable and she covered it with a clean sheet. There was also a massage table and what may have been a love chair, I'm not quite sure what it was. She offered a shower and towel before which I accepted, and she did the same. A sign said no xia xia in the showers so I didn't ask to join. After that we got to business.
She started with a good bbbj, which lead to one pop which she said could go about anywhere. I asked about her mouth and I'm sure that she would have been fine with it but I didn't feel like pushing it. Then more bbbj between lots of kissing to some foda. She started on top and then we switched to doggy. It was nice watching that bunda bounce around. I ended up popping twice in my 30 and I'm sure that she would have been happy to go again but I was satisfied and wanted to save some for later just in case. I asked about completa and she said she did from time to time but I didn't push for it. All in all she is a really nice and cool girl. I didn't ask about pictures, sorry guys. I'm kinda kicking myself about it now. I'm sure she would have been down...
Anyways, about the casa. I got there around 12:30 and it was really quiet, I was the only guy there but most if not all of the girls were there. I really don't think that this place sees a lot of gringos. They seemed a little taken aback when I told them that I wasn't Brazilian. I enjoyed my time there and would recommend it if you're feeling adventurous. It's a little cheaper than the centro casas, but it's also a little harder to find if you're not familiar with the area, which I'm not. Also I'm not sure if this is the best area to wander around aimlessly and alone. I never felt uncomfortable, but I may also just be blissfully oblivious... I haven't had the opportunity to get to the centro ones so I can't give a comparison, but I'm sure that the service is at least as good and they were a lot less crowded. I'd love to do a comparison if I ever make it to one of the centro casas now that I know they are indeed open.
Almost forgot, here's some quick and sloppy directions for those who are interested: Take the Metro Line 1 to Estacio, change to line 2 and get off at São Crastovão. Exit the metro, cross the bridge and head in the same direction that the Metro was going. When you come up to the block with the stadium make a left and then a quick right onto Av. Paula e Sousa. I didn't catch the name of the street that you first turn on but it is the one directly before the stadium. The address is 214 and it has a large metal door with a buzzer.

I was in BA 85 daily for most of the last week and a half. It seems the best quality girls are on floors 1 (2 cute blondes, black girl Carol, and Luhma), and floor 4 (black girl kelli and Melinie). Floor 3 has one blonde and floor 5 is a bit rough. Floor 2 is still very rough.
I am a little worried that gringos are going here now. I was on floor one and overheard a girl I have known for a year sputter out, "whatz doo youuu wants," to a guy. Each trip since I have always poped in there. Great place. Alot of mongers may think that I am rude for comenting about not so pretty gdp's (asking copa prices, especially mp.) but in my opinion if you are going to take a mp, ta or help girl she must be good looking, otherwise go to centro and pay the prices brazilians pay for sex. Ba 85 has similar quality to mp. They may not give you the illusion that you are there girl friend like mp girls, but you are paying for sex, and thats what you get. Girls in centro are shy, it takes a bit off courage for them to ask you to buy them a drink, at mp there friends will try and order anything to put on your bill. Copa girls have it too easy.
Maybe someone with experience can answer me about the behaviour of garotas in the above Termas. Its my first experience in Rio, so am on a learning path.

Just curious.It is normal for the girls to go back to the bar to seek you out but not automatic. It could have been any number of reasons why they didn't appear.
Do you know when they were scheduled to leave? Some 4x4 girls leave at 10.
The Luomo girl might have been eating.
4x4 is huge. She could have been at the Whiskeria.
They do seem to spend a very long time (unnecessarily in my opionion) doing their makeup and hair.
All that being said, I have found that if you are a regular at the termas or with the girl they will seek you out whenever possible, almost to the point of annoyance if you want to get with a lot of different girls.

Just curious.If the bar was crowded you could have simply missed them or they could have been grabbed for another session. I seen that happen a lot at 4X4. A girl will barely making back into the boite before being snatched by a guy who had been waiting for her to return.
I would say the likely reason they didn't return at Luomo's is that they were eating, as mentioned before, or they decided that they did not need to work anymore for the night. I have known girls that will simply stop working for the evening once they have reached a certain amount of sessions for the day.

They all seem to be in the same area. However, can you guys recomend any 2nd tier houses or apartments that are alot less expensive? Is there a list out here of those 2nd tier places around the Urugania Station I could go to? Any help?

There are several great explanations already posted. However, another explanations is their shift rotations. Girls arrive and depart 4 X 4 in waves. They arrive starting at 2:00pm, 3:00pm; the last shift arrives at 5:00pm. They also depart in waves with the first gals departing at 9 or 10 pm, all the way till 1:00am on Fridays only. Yes, they sometimes stay past midnight on the last day of the week since they are closed on weekends. If you wanted to hang with the girl after the session, you should have mentioned it to her. They are pretty much open to anything you suggest, since to them it suggests a repeat customer. I don't frequent L'uomo's enough to know what that was about.

A lot of good stuff is in this thread, but I'll admit it's a little buried. So in the interest of time here are a couple good sources.
Sperto's Guide (http://www.internationalsexguide.info/forum/showpost.php?p=875442&postcount=1031) It is very useful, most of the places there run between R$15 and R$220 and has maps. Bubba Boy's guide is good too and can be obtained here (http://www.internationalsexguide.info/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=65086) Gotta thank Euro100 for sorting that out in that thread, not to mention Bubba Boy for writing the thing. Another great resource is Bwana Dik's guide to Rio. I can't upload it here but just google "Bwana Dik 2009" it's the first hit. For maps I've actually printed Sperto's but another good one is Bitchmaps (http://maps.google.com/?q=http://bitchmaps.com/kmz/rj.kmz) it gives google maps locations and general prices of many many locations maybe even too many... The only thing is I don't know how recent it is so I would at least cross reference with Sperto's maps. But it is interactive and I do like that this map has the metro stations so you get a good idea of where you need to go from there.
Other than that I would suggest reading the thread if you can find the time. Or at least some of the posts from the more recent months. It won't take all that long and It has a lot of really valuable information. Enjoy your stay either way!

Since there has been lots (too much in my opinion) of talk about centro thermas in the last 2 months I would suggest looking at the posts and compiling your own list.

Naturally safety is my #1 priority. Any advice on which way to go? Usually at night after 10pm, I dont walk around the Copacabanna area by myself, unless I;m outside of HELP. My apartment is right on the corner.

ThanksThe metro in Rio is safer than being in a taxi. You will have no problems. Cantalago to Carioca or Uriguianna, safe as.
I think metro runs from 5 in the morning till midnight.

If you are worried about safety, then take a cab. I think that the favela-scum can smell fear in guys and then home in on them.
At 10 pm the streets are pretty empty (well, comparatively). And a cab from centro to copa should not run much above R20.

My rule is to leave centro by 8pm. Take what Euro said to heart: this is not the place to get into trouble and NOBODY speaks English when trouble begins!
You can actually take the metro to the new last station on the South line (Cantagaio), and exit on Rua Xavier da Silveria and you are just a few blocks from the beach and your apartment.
Rua Xavier da Silveria is the street where the Rio Othon, the hotel by Meia Pataca, is located. Just walk away from the beach and there is the station. Then walk toward the beach on the way back.

Thanks for the shortcut.Actually does not take all that long to sort through these threads. Well work the time and effort in both great experiences that follow and maximizing your budget. Lots of great advice has been dispensed throughout the different threads. And you will pick up tips and some stories that make you really appreciate the culture and get you in the mindset to really enjoy Rio - not just the garotas. And I have found that if you do that the garotas enjoy their time with you more.
Without wanting to minimize the excellent advice already given, there are activities that do not involve mongering. There are some excellent concerts, shows, movies and so on in town in the evening, especially towards the Cinelandia side of Centro. The main point being know exactly where you are going beforehand. Whether to take a cab or not in Centro mostly comes down , for me, to a feel of the streets at any particular time. If in doubt and you're new to Centro, always get a cab at night. After you get to know your way around, you know where and when you can walk, just as cariocas there do. Whether for mongering in late night joints or going to a classy concert. The walk back from 4x4 to the Metro shouldn't give anyone a problem but, if you blow 4x4 -type money, doing anything except getting a cab seems a bit cheapskating. My main exception is if I feel like walking the few yards to Rio Branco and getting a bus. (Or the few yards to Vargas if going the other way, to VM.)
Buses run all night. Buses from Rio Branco are exceptionally easy cos they have the word Copa in big letters on the front. Just have your small change ready. Buses are generally safe (I personally find them safer than taxis in many situations) but the Metro is the number one safest. If I am coming back to Copa at night (10pm is not that late) from Centro, especially to the SQ or Cantagalo / Help area, I am very much more concerned with safety there than in the main strips of Centro.
If you do want to explore Centro, best to do so first in the day. Nothing looks dumber and more inviting than someone who hasn't a clue where they are going at night.
I am going to explore Centro this trip for the first time. I usually stay in Copacabanna, so I plan to take the Metro up in the afternoon and stay there until 9 or 10 pm. My question is, Should I take a cab outside in Centro and go back to my apartment in Copacabanna around 10pm or is it safe to get on the Metro, get off at Siquiera Campos and walk down to Avenida Atlantica where my apartment is? Naturally safety is my #1 priority. Any advice on which way to go? Usually at night after 10pm, I dont walk around the Copacabanna area by myself, unless I;m outside of HELP. My apartment is right on the corner.
Any advice which way to come back to Copacabanna from Centro around 10pm?

My rule is to leave centro by 8pm.Then you miss some of the best parties in town.
And notably the happy-hours at Arcos de Teles (the alleys just off Praça XV). Every weekday, but especially Wed-Frid, office workers (including tons of women aged 20-30, often pretty hot) flock there to grab cold cervejas, eat appetizers and catch some music before heading home. And on Thurs or Friday often don't go home before 3-4am. It's one of the best option in town to chase middle-class non-pros (Cobal Humaita isn't bad either) and with all the tables and chairs over the alleys creating a large and impromptu patio, one of the best option for people-watching also (beware though, if you get there after 9pm you'll be lucky to find a seat at all). There's maybe over 15-20 bars and botequims, all packed to the walls, but Dito & Feito is IMO the best (it's the most popular). Santa Fe is pretty good too.
For mongers with "game", language skills and cultural awareness, finding a piece of ass is relatively easy at Arcos de Teles.
Anyhow as Xtopherd rightly stated, there's lots of great cultural events and "in" nightlife options in Centro. Much more so than in Copacabana. And it's undoubtely a safer area.
Centro being one of the epicenters of Rio's nightlife with dozens of good clubs and bars inevitably filled with party-goers, I find your "rule to leave Centro by 8pm" pretty weird.
Yet as usual, to each its own.

All this talk about centro, I really love centro. I have never seen so many brothels in such a small area in my life. Even the 2nd tier termas like 502, going in grabbing 3 beers (comes with your entrance fee), lot's off brazilian buisnessmen coming in after work. After spending the month in Rio in April, I remember my last night I headed into centro in the arvo, popped into uriguianna 24. A dump, but worth having a beer for the experience each trip, then went to ba 85, had a few beers (didn't do anything there, but have done over 10 women there before.) then off to 502, few beers having a laugh with a few brazilian buisnessmen and garotas. Then off to 4x4. Now that is one place that I can't go to without having a few women. I always feel totally safe in centro (even at night). Off a night time especially on the weekends people pack the streets drinking etc. The police leave the streets around 5 or 6 pm in centro, but I rarley see a problem there.
You can actually take the metro to the new last station on the South line (Cantagaio), and exit on Rua Xavier da Silveria and you are just a few blocks from the beach and your apartment.
Tijuana, you mention the Cantagalo Station. This is a new Station? Last time I was in Rio, the last station was Siqueira Campos Station. So now, you are saying I am better off finding the Cantagalo Station and using this as my primary station to go back and forth to Centro rather than humping to Siqueira Campos?
My apartment is right on the corner of Rua Djalma Ulrich. Right around the corner from Help. Am I better off using Cantagalo?

Has anybody else noticed the same tired posters always chime in with negativity? I mean some guys ONLY try to contradict. But usually they just demonstrate how weak they are:
For example, on this thread, if you mention centro, all of a sudden guys will chime in about non-pay for play spots to attempt to demonstrate their knowledge. They always claim, you can pick up girls there, but of course, they add you need, game, Portuguese, etc.. Their real goal is to try to say that THEY have game, Portuguese skills,etc., not you or TJ!
Or, on the apartment thread, these same types of guys chime in and start ranting about how they pay so much less because they read O Globo (another way to imply that they READ Portuguese).

I think you're taking offence where none was intended, man. I find a lot of Prosal's posts informative. I don't think he claims to be an expert and neither do I. We all just try to share what info seems appropriate. I don't find a lot of the repetitive posts about a particular girl helpful. But I'm just one board member. I'm sorry you take offence where none is intended. There's so many queries it's often a hard call on whether to respond on them or not. Yes Geo, coming back to Copa from Centro you can stay on the train and pass S Campos and the next/final stop is Cantagalo. You can then head towards the Miguel Lemos exit (or X Silveria). M Lemos will leave you one block closer to D Ulrich.
If you have already been on the merto this week I'm surprised you have not noticed the last stop on the line. Look up at the map next time you board.

Another idea - I don't know if I would classify it as being a cheapskate, but ...
As you probably know by now the metro only takes about 20 minutes to get back to Copa. A cab takes 'about' the same time (depending on traffic).
So why spend R20 for a cab, when you can spend R2.80 for a unitario (one way ticket)?
You will save R17 (thats more beer money for TA - about 4 beers w/tip).
A round trip with the metro to centro vs a cab and saves you R34. Consider it more free beer with the funds saved. The option is yours.
For me it boils down to whether or not I want to walk from the Cantagalo station. Sometimes I prefer to take a cab and get dropped of at my apt first. Other times I may get out right in front of help.
The best part is you have a choice. Why waste your money on taxis when the metro is fast, safe and efficient?

Just got back from a weeks vacation in Rio. This was my shortest trip to date. I usually try for at least 10 days or more and to visit both Rio and Sao Paulo.
Because my trip was so short, and I took some newbies with me, I decided to stay only in Rio. Fortunately, I used my ff miles so the trip only cost me $61.00 usd.
We stayed at the Rio Roiss Hotel and although it is an older hotel, it did the job. We paid r$ 180.00 a night which included breakfast and is very girl friendly. As long as you pay for a double, you don't get charged for bringing a girl in.
The Rio Roiss is also located right behind the Orthon Palace which is half block from help. And yes help is still open. The metro is about 3 blocks from the hotel and the citibank and hsbc atms are about the same only on Coppacabana street.
I landed at gig at 13:00, was the second person in line and was out of immigration in about 2 minutes. After retrieving my luggage and passing customs, I went to get a taxi.
I forgo all the guys wanting me to take their cab and went outside to the yellow taxis. The ride from the airport to the hotel was r$42.00. Not bad from what I have been reading.
When I went to exchange money the first day, it was r$ 1.95 to $ 1.00usd. By the time I left, it was r$2.00 for every $1.00 usd.
Unlike last year, the weather was very good. Last year it rained on me everyday. This year, the sun was out everyday until the last two days of my visit. The last two day were cloudy and windy but it didn't rain.
Fortunately, the only time it rained was at night.
Day 1,
After getting some money I took my newbies to dinner at Monchique, a by the kilo place on Coppacabana. From there, I took them for their first terma visit, Luomo's.
I let them know the termas in Copa were more expensive than the centro termas but since it was a Sunday, none of the centro termas would be open.

I know it's not the smartest thing to do, but we went into 4x4 with a full stomach. Being my friends first time there, they were very excited. Myself, I was getting a little sleepy with all the food that I had eaten.
Going into the bar, one of my friends says look at that tall blond, I really want her. I recognized the girl, she was Sol who I had taken last year. I was going to take her again this year but since my friend was so enthralled with her, I introduced her to him. He had a great time with her.
Sometimes you have to take one for the team. Sol did introduce me with one of her friends. Her name was Cindy, and not really my type but she sat with me while I was helping translate for my friends. She did have a cute face and blond hair. When my friends went up at the same time, I should have left her and get someone I preferred. But no. I took her up and took a chance.

Centro being one of the epicenters of Rio's nightlife with dozens of good clubs and bars inevitably filled with party-goers, I find your "rule to leave Centro by 8pm" pretty weird.

You go to the window and get it, there is a minimum amount to put on it the first time (10 reals I think) and then you can put more on it later, even at machines. Here is what I do: I am always nice to the night guy at the front desk and chat a bit with him. Unless you need a roof top pool, there is no reason to stay in a hotel. Every apartamento has a security guard/doorman sitting at a desk in the lobby, there are some serious condos to rent in Copa/Ipanema if you want luxury as well as privacy.

1. Don’t revive relationships with GDPs if it’s been more than a few months since you’ve seen them. I thought I could restart something with Luany, and as I said I’ve got regulars elsewhere. NS Copacabana 583 #203-4: Two New Experiences
For those who don’t know, these are a couple of cheaper termas located in Copacabana. Please note that as I stated previously, you must climb 2 flights of stairs (up past the gym also numbered in the 200s) and go all the way to the other end of the hallway to reach both places. In both cases, there is no entry fee and you don’t change into a robe.
I didn’t see a masseuse or sauna in 204, but here’s what I did see inside there that day:
At ~2PM on a Friday afternoon, there were 6-7 girls. Most were dark-skinned, all were content to chat amongst themselves and not respond to any of my flirting, smiles, winks, or nods, and so after 1 R$5 Coke (no water available here), I left.
At 203:

4 x 4: Two Reunions
Once again, I took the Metro. I met Luany and discussed what we should do over the weekend. At this point, I felt even further out of sync with her: we couldn’t agree on what to do, so I decided not to pursue this relationship any further.
My crush/crash from last year, Laila, recognized me and wanted a drink. I asked what kind, she said Red Bull and vodka. She wants the most expensive drink on the menu? I don’t think so! This is a shame because apart from the attitude and in terms of appearance, she is the kind of girl I look for and like—petite, blue- and doe-eyed, long-haired, cute smile, pretty- and young-faced spinner.
Once again, after wandering around some more, I felt saudades of another terma and headed there.
L’uomo: Attack the two Babyfaces
The “Backwards Hat” mafia seems to have set up camp here now as well, as this would be the first of several days that I saw them there. I recognized and was recognized by Jamile and Ingrid. Both are of course extremely popular and by all accounts this attention is warranted. Beatriz (who I believe has been reported here before) came up to me and started grinding her bunda into my crotch. Since this was followed immediately by pleas to go to the cabine, I declined.
However, I met and went to a cabine with a new girl. Her name is Luna, she’s 21 with dyed blonde hair and is from Goianas. She’s got a goofy but cute smile. Her kissing was aggressive with lots of teeth action at first. The good news is that she’s trainable: I backed off and she caught on and kissed more gently. My experience with this experiment said no. After syncing up, no matter how long I waited to break the pattern, she kept in her own rhythm. I did not take this as a good sign. If we don’t have rapport on the most basic of biological levels, how can we have rapport on other levels?
As a final note, towards the end of the night, I saw 2 locals come in who couldn’t have been much more than 24, if that. These young babyfaces were almost instantly mobbed by 4 girls who wanted to feel them up, kiss them, and grab their crotches. No other guests got this treatment. I asked one of the girls and she told me that they weren’t regulars, so that’s not why those guys were treated that way. Who says looks don’t matter for the girls too?

Preliminaries:
Again, I want to thank Mr. Enternational and TJ Fannatic for their advice on transportation. I wound up taking the R$12 shuttle. Even though my place wasn’t on the driver’s list of stops, he was kind enough to make the door-to-door trip anyway. In fairness, maybe this was because I was the only person he was driving.
Even though I’d be there for 10 days, I decided to stay in a hotel rather than an apartment. It’s almost certainly more expensive but here’s the thing: I like the quiet. Were I to rent an apartment my neighbor might be blasting his loud stereo until 4 in the morning and beyond. My fears were confirmed when several days later I ran into some fellow hobbyists staying in apartments who admitted to doing this. They were all good guys of course and one of many reasons that I can say this is because I didn’t have to sleep next door to them.
Once I settled on a place to sleep and how to get there, I needed a place to eat. I can recommend a nice Qilo restaurant on Rua Tonelero near the Siqueira Campos Metro stop. It’s close to my hotel and fit within my lunch budget (~R$10 and below.)
4 x 4: The Braveheart Trick
After unpacking and getting settled, I took the Metro to 4 x 4.
Some background for the next part of this report: in the movie Braveheart, as a boy a young William Wallace received a flower from a girl at his father’s funeral. He kept said flower for years and gave it back to the girl (now all grown up) who at that point was so touched that she became his forever.
Now, I admitted in an earlier post that I don’t throw out phone numbers. So, I decided to try a similar experiment with Luany, a blonde girl with large, natural breasts who I had met last year. Vila Mimosa: Hell in Heaven or Heaven in Hell?
Disclaimer: this was my first time there. I’m told that this is a place you just have to experience for yourself, and moreover no Rio monger earns his stripes without going there.
I had Sperto’s map, and I knew that I had to depart at São Cristóvão Metro. There are two possible exits from this station, one north and one south. I misread Sperto’s map and initially took the north exit. This takes you to a neighborhood that is way too nice to be on the way to VM. I knew that I had taken a wrong turn and I reversed course, heading east from the south exit. If one continues on the north side of that road, eventually you have a military base on your left and a favela on your right. I was looking for an underpass or a gate, but after 20 minutes I figured that I had taken a wrong turn. Clearly, the safest thing to do was to take a taxi. So I did. To Christopherd, Sperto, and the other VM connoisseurs: where did I make a wrong turn on that trip to VM? Once I head out of São Cristóvão station, what specifically do I look for and how do I know if I’ve gone too far?

Although Cristóvão is supposed to be the easiest, I rarely use it (buses drop you much closer or the Afonso Pena walk** is nicer and the same distance). However, I cut my teeth on it so to speak. For what they're worth, here's some ideas -
Remember the direction the train is travelling in when you get off at Cristóvão. Face that direction along the platform. Turn left across the footbridge to the main road station exits.

As you can see, it's possible to walk from either side of the station (at least now the rail crossing by Francisco Eugenio has re-opened) but I've only gone that way (the north exit) at night once. There's often taxis at that exit. But on the south (more usual) exit on the other hand, there's reassuringly lots of people. Get off the north side during the day to visit the park, the museum or take pictures of the glorious Apollo temple in the middle of the lake (or the cruddy zoo). This is where North Zone carioca families go to chill and it's usually ok during the day. Sounds like you went much further though. If you go to VM that way, you have to take a sharp right as you exit, not follow the road next to the park which is maybe where you went(?) You get to Francisco Eugenio - a wide street that becomes dual carriageway. Big official-looking buildings on your left and an unkempt railway line on your right. There used to be a footbridge into VM that way but it was closed and demolished and they reopened the level crossing (on the map, it's just a continuation of Rua Ceará.)
Crossing the footbridge in the station to the south, left from your direction of travel, you might even hear the roar of traffic before you go out through the ticket barriers. Unlike the other side, you're coming out onto a very big, very busy, very fast freeway with many lanes. The traffic will be whizzing past you from left to right as you descend from the station.
As you come down the (southside) steps from the station, you'll probably see popcorn and other stalls selling cheap snacks and drinks.
There's also many buses screeching to a stop, but not going the way you want to go.
When you descend to the pavement, turn left. This means you are looking at the traffic as it rushes towards you. You are going parallel to the metro track, back along the way you came. The pavement gets very narrow. Don't let that freak you out.

Thanks for your prompt reply. Now that I see your maps, I should mention that when I got lost I was taking the south exit and thus walking along Avenida Osvaldo Aranha. I never did see the underpass, bridge, or whatever that becomes Rua Ceará-- this is what I was asking about.

I can't remember a military base offhand anywhere between Cristovao and the other end of Vargas (where there's lots of military stuff but that's miles away). Def can't think of any favelas although I'm not keen on the area around Praca Onze late at night personally. It's not the nicest of walks. At least not until you get up to the markets on Vargas some way before Uruguiana.
If we leave by the south exit and head east we get to Rua Ceará. So ok let's do that bit . . .

The freeway lanes have spread out to take in a garage on your right, while on your left are some street sellers, a bus stop, and usually some motorbike taxis (unofficial guys on bikes that will undercut a taxi fare). There's shops over to the right (about 6 traffic lanes over to the right).
You can see the railway bridges overhead to your left, Maybe get a whiff of the stagnant water in a canal beneath. There are several big iron bridges to your left too (the ones we walk under to VM). But before you turn off the main road you can see a blue footbridge crossing all those lanes of traffic. Over the other side there's a chemist and a mini-market and a few places you can eat if you want. Also a taxi stand and buses to Copa.
If you go any further along Osvaldo you hit the big spaghetti junction. A few street walkers too (not doables). Some beggars at the bridge and a fire station if I'm right?
I've just measured it on googlemaps and that says it's a 12 minute walk up to the bikers bar on Caera from the Metro.
If you get a taxi from Cristovao, north is much cheaper cos of the one way system.

There is one military base at Praca Pedro II, but that´s on the north side of the metro.
I dozed off on the bus to VM once. Woke up bloody miles beyond Maracana and staggered off still rubbing sleep out of my eyes and disorientated and going, am I supposed to be worried, anyone want to mug me or, even worse, is it gonna rain? VM seemed so mainstream suburbia by the time I got myself behind a reassuring bottle of beer, friendly bunda shakin to the musak and so on. I firmly believe getting lost - or rather the getting un-lost that follows - to be a very healthy experience.
At least you explored lol! More people should.

Getting flat out rejected is pretty rare in my experience. I can't recall it happening to me in Rio and very rarely if at all elsewhere. I would guess that this is particularly true in the termas where the girls stand to gain a very significant amount of money from you for a session, as opposed to BA85 where the girls get some fraction of R$15. The bigger issue for me has always been that the one I want is either busy or not around.
There's two reasons why I'm not significantly hurt by these rejections (and you shouldn't be either.)
1. Were she to suppress her dislike for you, you would have a bad session and be out a bit of money.
2. Whether she's interested in me or not, there's a roomful of other girls who want me as well. The big challenge is to determine who "the one" is and whether that interest is mutual.

Hi, sorry, didn't realise it was your first trip. Probably better to just jump in. I don't personally think any amount of explanation will prepare anyone for Brasil mongering, it's quite unique. If it helps: Top termas like 4x4 are a class act so to speak. They're expensive and gringos can be seen as more likely to spend. Cheapo joints might work the opposite. These aren't hard and fast rules, just that mongering is not problemmatic in itself in Rio and rather than pages of discussion on it you might find in retrospect that time spent on researching practicalities is more helpful. How to get around, the size of Rio, protecting or minimizing your belongings, some phrases if you don't have them already, prices to pay in places where haggling is involved, that sort of thing. Rio is big and the pace is hectic. When you get there you're in the thick of it, like joining the fast autobahn from a slow side road. There is, however, more than enough pussy to go round (cough, understatement). Don't worry about being refused. Try not to be very loud - mimic the locals and speak quietly if you can. The stairs in BA85 are narrow and busy and harder if you are frail or overweight. Anywhere else is fairly user-friendly. Sorry if you've worked all this out already! Not really much they can do to a foreigner. Appened to me 5 years ago. Was part of a sting and had to wait it out 3 days at the station. Had to pay a R500 fine.

That last sentence sums it up perfectly. Rio Antigo is in desperate need of new management & owners. I´ve always felt that the place had potential but it´s always dead in there and the handful of ladies there are usually south of 5 on the 1 to 10 scale. 5 years ago they at least had a couple of gems but last time I stopped through about 3 years ago I had had enough. It´s just a waste of R$60.

They closed 3320, 2114, 1833, 1839, and 1619. This was based on a complaint that sexual exploitation of women, aka prostitution, was occurring there. The investigation continues and are looking into 5 more companies doing business there.
My take on this: Someone forgot to make a payment or the payment just increased. Give it a couple of days, it will be business as usual.

He said during the time the girls were there they were showing pictures of their bodies on their cell phones. I ended up having to go to the police station in Lapa get his apartment keys and get his passport and then back to the station to give to him. He showed it and around 930 pm they start releasing some of the girls and madams. Which as the player I am I was outside getting some numbers for my future visits. He was released with out having to pay a fine other than what the bail bondsman (Acenva) charged a visit to terma 502 and terma 4X4.
After leaving the station we went to the termas 502 for 3 rounds of drinks then on over to 4x4 to eat and a quick session.
The main thing that should be learned is that you should always have a copy of your passport or your passport with you because things could have gotten very costly. It is good also to have a friend or 2 that know where you are and can help out.

My friend is fairly fluent in Portuguese. We were fortunate that we both were not together as planned. If you have been to Dunda and did a session with Carroll you would have given her the 500R she is that good. But I do not paga that much for no pussy. (Unless I am married to it, because it cost a lot more in the end.)

There is no website it is 3320 at Rio Branco 156. Look at Sperto's map it will show you. If you come off the Carioca Metro the building is to the right go in by the Bob's and take the midle elevator up to the 32 floor then get out and go to the 33 floor.

Yep VLC is the best one, it opens everything with no need of codec as windows media player does.

Addition:It has been confirmed that there was nudity, so that was it.

Not sure if they are still there but there were twins working in Monte Carlo last year. Posted a picture in the photo gallery.

Yes TJ, plenty of nudity! Although I must admit that I've seen this before on youtube, sometime ago. It was also on the Playboy channel. I can use this to show a few close friends the Terma experience!:)
So far, this is the only visual recording I have ever seen inside a Terma.
