Hey guys,

Which district in Rio would be the safest in general to live for 6 months? I want it to be close to the brothels. What are the general hours of these places? I will be working remote between 10 am to 8 pm Rio-time.Interesting way to frame a common question. The issue is that the brothels tend to be where safety is an issue at night. Affluent Brazilians are tolerant of brothels as long as they aren't too prominent in their neighborhood.

Best place for termas and prives in my opinion is Centro. (You should learn the lingo. They generally aren't called brothels in Brazil.) Next, I would say Copacabana. After that, I would put Ipanema and Barra a distant third and fourth.

Forget staying in Centro. You don't want to be hanging out there at night. Copa, Ipanema and Barra are all acceptable. Copa and Ipanema are so close together it's not a big difference. Ipanema (and next door Leblon) is a nicer area. Most think the beach is nicer. As far as staying in Barra, this has been discussed extensively the last two months. In a nutshell, Barra is very nice, more modern but it is a bit out of the way and not very walkable.

I looked all over the brazilian government website and no notice posted there. Not at the ministry of tourism or citizenship. A month ago there was news that Colombia would re-instate PCR test requirements but that turned out to be a leaked memo and false. Does anyone have a link to a government source?

But for the benefit of the thread, I will take a few sentences about Botafogo.

Botafogo. Jardim Botanica (where Solarium, the best Zona Sul Terma IMHO) - is a middle class neighborhood in Brazil, next to a favela (Santa Marta) in some places. The prime spots are on Rua Sao Clemente and Rua Bambina, west to the location of Solarium.

The key is using city buses, and of course, the metro.

I lived at Sao Clemente for 7 months in 2015-2016 and was maybe the happiest of all my 27 trips to Rio. Indeed, even though I have become a fan of Transamerica in Barra the Tijuca, I would move back to Botafogo, and probably will, when and if I find a good spot.

Why?

Well:

1. It is mixed race (Barra is decidedly not friendly to blacker people, which is my particular interest as far as girls, though I like the Germanic girls like Giselle as much as anyone), and importantly, my best black girls sometimes avoid Barra (as they did Leblon) because it is not friendly to black girls.

2. It is a middle class neighborhood. You've got professors, diplomats, lawyers, and janitors, all co-existing, on central arteries of travel, commerce, and intellectual life of the great megacity of Rio with its 12 million souls. The Brazilian west point is at Urca, nearby. FGV and other Hi power intellectual institutions are nearby. It is on a metro! (You need to get on the metro and stop being driven everywhere, if only because that's how you take in the life of a city). A nice bus from the metro goes west into the best areas of Zona Sul to Gavea, where their is a university, which offers language classes.

3. Everyone who knows Rio can easily get to Botafogo and do sex work there. It's visually awesome -- Christo, sugar loaf, etc.

4. it is not Copacabana. Look, people think they have arrived in Rio if they have a penthouse next to Copacobana Palace. Wrong. The water is a sewer if you swim, which you should, for health. The worst of tourism is on display in Copa -- crime, and all the desperate crap that the lower end of the economy entails.

5. Botafogo, on the other hand has embassies (Portugal), think tanks, centuries old schools for the richest and most powerful of Brazil, and all the good things that come with that.

A friend just sent me text from 4x4. It opened today and he is in there right now. I hope to get a full report later.As mentioned earlier in this thread, 4 X4 is indeed open again. I had the opportunity to stop by there this evening for my last night in Rio. I've been going to Rio on frequent basis since 2011 always considered 4 x4 as one of my favorites. Below are some details from my experience at 4 x4 tonight (Friday):

- Everything inside looks basically the same as it did before. Modest updates to the bar front and upholstered seating areas. Rooms are still shit as well as locker rooms and bathrooms. Steam rooms were turned off. You have to ask for toiletries now from the bathroom attendant rather than being able to grab it yourself from the sink area like before.

- Lots of new faces at the front desk, behind the bar, wait staff, locker room, and bathroom attendants. Two of the three front desk staff spoke great English.

- Hours: Mon-Fri 1:30 pm to Midnight.

- Pricing: $70 are entrance (includes a drink or two) and is waived if you session before 6 pm (same as before). $270 are (30 min), $390 are (1 HR / cabine), $450 (1 HR / suite).

- Out of all the Tier 1 termas, I would say 4 x 4 gave the least shit about sanitizing areas. I recommend bringing your own hand sanitizer as it is currently not present inside the terma except behind the bar. Monte Carlo was the best at keeping things sanitized (hand sanitizer on every table and mounted in every hallway, staff regularly spraying down tables and chairs, spraying disinfectant in the rooms after each session).

- I arrived at about 5 pm and there were only about 10 girls and around 12 guys (about half in civilian clothes). I was not impressed and didn't recognize any of the girls from previous visits. However, I wanted to wait a little longer to see if more girls would arrive after 6 pm and a few did.

- At one point I counted 18 girls in the bar area. Assuming I missed a few that may have been upstairs getting fucked, I'd say there were probably around 20-22 girls working.

- As usual, it was an interesting mix of girls. However, based on my preferences, I would have only taken around 5 out of the 22 girls upstairs. I thought one I was hot and would come back for her if I had another day to do so. There were 4 girls that I recognized from previous visits and ended up sessioning with one of them. The remaining girls in my opinion looked pretty rough / favela type.

- The atmosphere tonight was rather calm. Not the usual party / festive environment that I am used to experiencing at 4 x 4. Jorginho has been working at T65 now so there is currently no emcee or stage show like before.

It takes 3 - 5 days to get the Results for a PCR Tests. It is not possible to ensure I get a test results back in time for I depart. (If you have to test 72 hours before departing).

2 The measures provided for in 1 take effect from 12/30/2020.

Starting on December 30th, 2021 you will need to bring a negative PCR test to board the plane to Brazil and sign the declaration agreeing to their COVID restrictions.

In France you get them in maximum 72 hours, often in 24 hours, but one thing Brasil about 50 000 infected people / day. There are others countries (like Thailand) that required the 72 hours RT-PCR test and plenty of travellers got it before their flight without problems. Of course you must to use private clinics.

I'm going to have to get one of these for my trip to Sao Paulo at the end of January.

The costs range is from £100-£150 for a private test in person where I live and results with 24-48 hours.

My flight to Brazil is at night time too, at a time when the clinics will be closed, so will have to do the 24 hour results test two days before I go.

So basically I won't know if I'm actually going until 24 hours before I go. I suffer with bad anxiety and this is going to kill me haha.

I think this decree, frankly, is going to get amended.I hope so, but many other countries did not. I am just worried if I can receive it soon enough. And need to know do pharmacies like CVS count Saturday and Sunday as the days included as their 3-4 days results.

My flight goes from Manchester (UK) to Amsterdam (long overnight stopover) then to Rio.

In theory would I be ok with a test that was performed 71 hours before my flight leaves Manchester?

I just went for a swim at the beach today.

On balance, while I like Botafogo because I have many real friends there, Barra posto 6 (Transamerica) wins for me:

1. The beach is really nice, and safe. As a neighbor told me, this is the safest 'hood in Rio. It really is Bolsonaro country. I like the food in Botafogo, like Na Brasa Colombia, but they have a Na Brasa Colombia here in Barra at Olegario district / street, which is near the metro, which brings me to the next point.

2. There is a metro. Metro Jardim Oceanico is not as well known, but it is a metro, and there is therefore cheap and high speed travel to all of Rio, which most of we happy few mongers know well.

3. It appears from Instagram recon of my favorite girls that the beaches in Recreio is where the hottest young ladies go on their beach days. So, I would recommend some recce of the beaches out past Recreio.

Oh, yeah, for what it is worth, I did try to find some Truvada or Truvada generico at the local pharmacia, including Pacheco, where the first referred me to. However, I did not find any. They do have the oral self test kits for $80 reais, as has been discussed on this board earlier. The closest local hospital where there are free tests is Av Ayrton Senna 2000, near Barra Shopping. Be safe, let me know if you are in Rio.

Its an impossible situation. It can take 3-5 days for you to get results, there is no way to bring a test that is only 72 hours old!! If someone arrives with a test that is 5 days old, I wonder if they will send you back?Plenty of labs, at least in large cities, offer rapid PCR tests. Some require a plane ticket, others a little more money. Sure it's a hassle, but on the bright side, I'd be a little more comfortable knowing that on a 10-hour flight my seatmates are likely not to have the disease.

My flight to Brazil is at night time too, at a time when the clinics will be closed, so will have to do the 24 hour results test two days before I go.

- Hours: Mon-Fri 1:30 pm to Midnight.

- Pricing: $70 are entrance (includes a drink or two) and is waived if you session before 6 pm (same as before). $270 are (30 min), $390 are (1 HR / cabine), $450 (1 HR / suite).

- Out of all the Tier 1 termas, I would say 4 x 4 gave the least shit about sanitizing areas. I recommend bringing your own hand sanitizer as it is currently not present inside the terma except behind the bar. Monte Carlo was the best at keeping things sanitized (hand sanitizer on every table and mounted in every hallway, staff regularly spraying down tables and chairs, spraying disinfectant in the rooms after each session).

I can't quite recall exactly but there was a surcharge for using a card so I paid cash. I am big points person so the math had to be more than 3% for the card is all I can absolutely confirm. I do recall at solarium if you paid entrance in cash up front you got a free drink. Monte Carlo was like a 10% premium. Basically if you have good access to cash then I think that is the way to go. I used my schwab account with the ATMs so I paid no fees. Side note some places it's mixed like scandello in SP, no surcharge for card on entrance or room, but 6% if you use it to pay the girl so I would mix the card and cash.

If you learn some basic Portuguese and you have some natural charm, the malls can definitely be places to meet women. You shouldn't immediately treat the women like programa girls especially in front of their co-workers or friends. The day was quite the adventure, a truly memorable experience. Started the morning by going to barra shopping to do some sight seeing and get brunch. Decided on Taco Bell for a taste of home.

To answer questions: Barra only has one boate, it is pearla negra. I did not make it there and have not read any reports. Based on its location I think it could be a very very good one. A swing club is in the same building but closed due to the rona. Paris is kind of out of the way at Recerio de Banditos or whatever. But it has a good vibe, They mix their drinks strong and the prices are half of centaurus and solarium. The ladies are not as high a quality but there are some really good looking ones. I also found out that Pantera in Recario is owned by the same people that own Paris. We had no succes finding it though. There are many prives in Barra but the main event is definately Transamerica. Yes it called Mediterano flats now but on google and uber it is transamerica and if you tell girls you are staying there the prices drop quickly for the most part. I paid $100 for two nights for a room with a balcony on the 15th floor. I sessioned 4 ladies from there but only actually called one. After that I had over 10 offers from women and are still receiving them as we speak even though I am back in the midwest and told them that. I did not negotiate on price. I paid what they asked because the service was good and convenient. I did not tip any and after I session one they would refer a friend to me. This was my first time to Rio, I went with a friend and we are from Europe, been to Fortaleza twice before.

I used to have some information here about Rio, thank you all.

I booked a good apartment in Copacabana through Airbnb, and had no problem bringing a girl into the house.

At Shopping Rio Sul, and I got the phone number of a girl who works there, but otherwise I did not contact her.

Boate Kalabria also been there just like Casablanca, nothing special.

We went evenings to Mabs around 10:30 pm and usually bark until 00:30 and then we went to Dolce Vida until about 3:00 am.

The first few days we are going to stay in Ipanema as we also want to do some typical tourism.

I obviously don't know you. Young, blue-eyed, great physical shape? Then picking up girls on Ipanema beach is possible.

Otherwise, understand that a normal middle-class carioca is like a Spanish girl. You'll need some time to court her. She won't probably fuck you on the first date, although it's not impossible. But you only have 5 days for everything. I'd stick to a pay-for-play game plan.

And I would stay in Copacabana to be close to everything.

You'd have easy access to Monte Carlo, 583, Mabs, and I've read good things about Lux. Haven't been to Barbarella in ages and never to Calabria, so can't say one way or another.

The nearby Metro stations will quickly take you to cheaper Centro options like 4 x4, 65, and countless prives.

I can't imagine you'll be able to squeeze much else in your 5-day adventure.

Oh, and there is a beach, too.

Ipanema and Copacabana are essentially the same area totally WALKABLE (and if necessary, for time sake take cab or Uber to get around quickly) the two main Termas Monte Carlo and Centaurus are less than 10 minutes via cab and approx. 30 minutes walking between each other. It's now a Museum, and one with an extraordinary exhibit documenting the death of President Getulio Vargas. Unfortunately, while it may not be open at the moment, the grounds are worth checking out. Note: there's a fine little folklore museum right next door. So when you are texting with them you might find them right in your building. Some escorts specifically mention their location in their ads. There's also the chance you might find something at the pool that strikes your fancy. I have no direct experience with TA, but I wouldn't simply hang around waiting for girls in the lobby or pool.

As other members are guiding, prime time at Termas seems to be from 5-6 pm to about 9-10 pm. Their bread and butter clientele (especially outside Copa and Ipanema) tend to be businessmen who drop by after work. They tell their wives and girlfriends they are going out with work colleagues. That is partially true because the locals tend to make termas a social thing with work buddies. They don't mind foreigners.

Dude, if you're flying solo w/o a wingman and up for some cool touristy sightseeing, then I'd recommend perhaps considering hooking up with a chica (or two) that you like (and can trust to some degree), then checkout some of the "cidade maravilhosa" (the marvelous city), that is Rio, with them though their eyes, as well. If she's worth her salt as a "carioca" (native woman of Rio), she'll steer you clear of most tourist pitfalls and guide you to some gems.

After January 26th, everyone (including American citizens) must have a negative Covid test in order to enter the USA. Does anyone know where in Rio, you can take a rapid test? (I think the results have to be under 72 hours). If you test positive, I assume you must be quarantined in Brazil until you test negative.

Testing positive is going to suck for people who can't work remotely and must cover room and board for 2-3 weeks. We won't even mention the torture of seeing hot girls every day and knowing that you can't indulge because you are supposed to be quarantined.I have done mine at (https://www.richet.com.br/). I like being a block from the beach, and so do the many who are at Transamerica.

It is not just the bar here, it is Av Gastao Senges 185 for lunch, dinner, and the stroll in between.

In the beginning there was karlamodels, and it was good. You could stay at Motel Malaga or Motel Barao do Flamengo, and the girls would stroll from their agency, Karlamodels or the other I forgot.

Mediterrneo Flat (formerly Transamerica) been discussed at length the last few weeks. It's a large building in Barra where you can book rooms for short or long stays. Many escorts live there. So when you are texting with them you might find them right in your building. Some escorts specifically mention their location in their ads. There's also the chance you might find something at the pool that strikes your fancy. I have no direct experience with TA, but I wouldn't simply hang around waiting for girls in the lobby or pool.

Vagabundo recommends it for first-timers. I still think the Copacabana / Ipanema corridor is best for Rio newbies. Most newbies seem to visit for a week or less. I want to walk to the beach and have dozens of restaurants around the corner. There are also easy to get to sex venues.

Yikes! I had a massage at Monte Carlo once. The woman lightly rubbed oil on me then poured warm water on me. A Thanksgiving turkey gets a better rub down. Termas massage never again.

Stick to the tried and true when doing tourist stuff. Corcovado (the Christ statue) is a must in my opinion. Sugarloaf Mountain is fine, but if you choose one choose Corcovado. I like taking the old tram up to the old Santa Teresa neighborhood above Centro for lunch. Bring a date! She will be impressed. If I remember right, some restaurants have views. The now well-known Selaron Steps are in Santa Teresa. The Lapa Arches and the Modern Cathedral are all near where the Santa Teresa historic tram line begins.

Secondary recommendations: The modern Rio Cathedral, the Sambadrome, Niteroi Contemporary Art Museum (a bit far). If you like old cafes you can go to Confeitaria Colombo before hitting Termas 4 x4.

As other members are guiding, prime time at Termas seems to be from 5-6 pm to about 9-10 pm. Their bread and butter clientele (especially outside Copa and Ipanema) tend to be businessmen who drop by after work. They tell their wives and girlfriends they are going out with work colleagues. That is partially true because the locals tend to make termas a social thing with work buddies. They don't mind foreigners.

I would advise hitting up 4 x4 on a Friday evening. You know the girls will have Saturday and Sunday off as 4 x4 is closed.Down to Santa Teresa, Niteroi and Confetaria Colombo. The Niemeyer-built Niteroi Museum is a sight to behold, although I loved it more from the outside, LOL. I would take a ferry to Niteroi, it's a joy on a good day.

I agree that Corcovado is more impressive than Sugarloaf, although the views from Sugarloaf are nothing short of spectacular, but it often gets cloudy. So I would go to Corcovado first. The workers will tell you if there are clouds, so you may want to go to Sugarloaf instead. And the interiors of the St. Benedict monastery are shouldn't be missed IMHO.
