I thought this can be a great resource. It lists a few regions of Brazil including Rio. I was surprised to find 2 Ipanema beaches currently not suitable for swimming, but this is apparently changing all the time. Might be worth to check regularly.

Question: do you need the yellow fever vaccine to enter the country? So far I see it's recommended, not required, but unsure. AS far as I can tell you just need a PCR 3 days before entry and the attestation form thing. Thanks for the help, Ill be posting reports. Ready to fuck up some carioca bueta.

Security is getting worse, especially in Copa:
3 weeks ago I was with a ISG member, walking back from Arpoador to COpa p5 for a meal. Along the way, aggressive panhandlers came up to us and put their hands on us, which I hate. I was wearing: Rio Fire Department shorts, Rio FB bought (casa bombeiros) red rash guard shirt, red boonie cover also bought at casa bombeiros. WHen the panhandlers started putting their hands on us, I put on the leather gloves I bought at the Fire Department store. It was for deterrence. Makes the other people out there more attractive victims. My ISG member buddy who was with me said he had been assaulted coming into a favela where he knows some people. Practice very good situational awareness, gents. I see the trends getting worse.
6 weeks ago, a similar thing happened late at night, on a short walk on av nossa Copacabana from posto 5 to 4, roughly, when I was going for an uber by myself after hanging out with a ISG member. Again, I put on my gloves, which are local bought. A bunch of agro pan handlers came up on me, and started following along the street.
This never happens out at Barra posto 6, never. The locals tell me this is the best 'hood in Rio, with strong law enforcement. This is another reason this is the best area to live IMHO.
So, in summary, I highly recommend avoiding copa especially, but also Ipanema, and choosing instead Barra posto 1 - 6, or in Zona Sul, Botafogo or Jardim Botanico. These are upper middle class areas where law enforcement is strong and there are fewer gringo tourists, which you as a traveler want to avoid.
On the discussion of latest intel about which places are open (luomo closed, etc), I welcome all the criticism and input. This is a great source of up to date intel, and it's great to have all the critical eyes to get up to speed. Thanks.Why do you keep talking about the leather gloves?

Good to be back.
All over Centro yesterday, great time in all the usual spots!
Hit VM at about 9 pm, ran into a known, very chill girl.
Went back to her room with her for an hour just to take a nap actually.

He saw her tan lines and asked if they all go to the beach to get those. Good question. In 20 years I have never thought to ask. So I asked her. She said she lays out on the roof of the building she lives in in Pena to get the tan.
We left there and I saw a banner advertising a salon. Hold up. I recognize the name, but there was a mat covering up the picture. But the hair was still showing. I showed my brother a picture is my phone and told him I thought it was this chick from years ago. That is the only time I had heard a name as such. I approached a guy and asked him about the salon. He said he had know idea, but maybe it is upstairs. We trekked through the building and up the stairs. It appeared to be an abandoned bar (not really the bar, but the upstairs part where they have all the rooms.) There was a big room with maybe six beds in it and a guy that seemed to be taking a break from work was sitting on the floor. Found the salon and knocked on the door, but nobody answered.
Headed back downstairs and the first person I saw was the chick I thought I knew. She was mopping the floor in a downstairs bar. I took my phone out and showed her the picture and said isn't this you? She denied it. In the picture she was in the hallway of the apartment with her tits out looking at pics on the wall, her and another chick. She said that she does not take pictures like that. I zoomed in on the picture and said are you sure this is not you? She said no. I said this is definitely you. Same color hair and all. He said it was back the other way. So we should have made the right. Nevermind. We went to the bus stop and waited for the 455 or 456 back to Copacabana. It was really slow. There was some guy on the ground close to the bus stop. We could not tell if he was alive or dead. We saw like 4 457 buses pass on the median that we could have taken. Oh well. Finally a 455 came.

I popped into this spot for old times sake after checking in with MichaelSamuel at the rooftop pool of the JW Marriott, which is recommended, not so much for the pool, but for the view of Copa, and for the top top tier talent girl sitting on the deck chairs.
This was mid day on Tuesday. My wingman had ended his quick tour of RJ and was headed out to SP.
Walking around Copa is not that bad during the day, and I headed back over to Av Nossa Copa, where I had lived during the worst of the pandemic / endemic last year. I made some local friends, none of whom were around.
I ended up there on the corner with Hotel Vanity, where last I had gotten into an uber with the General three or four months before. Another buddy who is a law firm investigator and services clubs like the Irish bar in Lapa was not at his usual spot, and the bar tender had no reports of him, which was not unexpected as he usually has bar tabs outstanding up and down the street.

I would map out the area around vm, and take buses like the 457 from Copa to Norte Shopping and back during the day, and figure out where VM was.
I would stay in Motel Malaga, which is across the street from aconchega carioca.
The local boards like gparena and forumx were alive with the latest intel, in the spirit of Jorge Amado and his novellas.
I am in the phase of suggesting dinner at places near Norte Shopping with a non pro, and this report and others like it provide motivation and intel.

Hi yall,
This is my first post so bare with me. I had a trip planned to visit Rio 3/26 - 4/3 and I just heard about the lockdown and how restaurants will be closing at 5 and clubs are closed indefinitely. Is it still worth going on this trip or should I start looking for other places to visit. If so what places are good to visit for not only mongering purposes but also for sightseeing.

I was content to have a beer, a seat on the porch of one of the bars and watch the show. I can't tell you how many times' I've seen the same girl in VM during the day and then see her all dressed up in Help that night for four times the price. Copa lost its appeal for me when TA and Help shut down, Balcony just didn't do it for me.

This is my first post so bare with me. I had a trip planned to visit Rio 3/26 - 4/3 and I just heard about the lockdown and how restaurants will be closing at 5 and clubs are closed indefinitely. Is it still worth going on this trip or should I start looking for other places to visit. If so what places are good to visit for not only mongering purposes but also for sightseeing.

When the chick that was on my brother found out he did not speak Portuguese, she backed off and called another chick over that could speak a little English. She had obvious fake hair. She asked me what my name was and I responded by asking her what the name of her hair was. She started laughing and said Lacey Wiggy. That shit made me fall out. She said her hair is short and when it gets longer she will stop wearing it. We got into a discussion about what men and women like. I told her men did not give a shit about how long her hair was. She said she was doing it for herself. I said bullshit. Women do things men like and men do things women like. We were running out of time because my brother had to get back to get ready to go to the airport. So we took the chicks to the rooms for 1 hour. In the boate my chick was making a lot of noise. But when we got into the room she turned out to be an empty wagon. On top of that the a/c did not work and it got hot as hell. She told me we only had 10 minutes left and I picked up my phone and showed her the timer where it said 36 minutes left. It was damn hot though. She started drinking my drink.
Finished and got in the shower. Mf shower was hot as shit. Now if the room was cold there would have been no hot water. But with a hot room, there was only hot water. When I got out of the shower I opened the room door and left it open before putting my clothes on. I had to get some air.
Went back to the boate and I still had half of my drink left. My brother came down soon after and we went downstairs to leave. The lady was not in the dressing room so I swiped one of the robes and put it in my bag for my brother. No idea what size it was. I told him if it was too small then he could give it to his 9 year old son. Went to check out and the total was 355. I asked the lady why I had to pay the same as him when I am more handsome than him. No uber would accept so we ended up taking a taxi back to Copacabana.
Sidenote: I remember reading a recent report of a guy saying he took a chick out of 4x4 for 1000. I thought he meant he got her number and had her come later for that amount. But no. That is the 4 x4 listed take out price. Don't know what he was thinking with that one. And in some places (Spain & Italy), it seems that it was indeed the "virus apocalypse" in the west. And regardless of where you are, anybody with pre-existing conditions or at an age where they might be more susceptible to serious illness from this virus should be playing it safe. The risk factors for each individual are going to be different, and they should act accordingly. I know of somebody with an auto-immune deficiency for example. She needs to be living in a bubble. At the very least, everybody should be social distancing where possible and wearing a mask to protect other people from getting sick.

I know people who have had the virus. We probably all do. One 52-year-old friend, in good health, caught the virus and he said it was the worst 8 days he ever experienced with severe migraine headaches and overall body weakness. He said couldn't do anything for a week. Another 55-year-old friend who is also in good health caught it and he said he barely felt a thing. He knew he had it because his wife also had it, but she was in real bad shape for 10 days. Then I have a 45-year-old cousin, in good health, who got it and he said he felt weak and lethargic for about a week and then he got better fast. Lastly, I know a couple of younger American girls, in their early 30's and very healthy. They caught it but told me they felt nothing more than some slight flu symptoms for a few days.
So, with all the CDC data and the anecdotal information I mentioned above and realizing that although I am in very good health, I am over 60 (fuck), I decided to play it safe through out 2020. Meanwhile a good friend of mine, in his 50's and in good health went down to Sao Paulo in October. I could have easily gone with him. He told me he had a great time and was not affected adversely in any way. I chose not to go down with him to Brazil not because I was afraid of dying. Dying from this virus is rare unless you have a pre-condition or are over 70. But I didn't want to risk getting laid up with this BS in a hotel room in a foreign country for a week to 10 days feeling like shit. So, I waited at home while my friend did 2 chicas a day in SP. Good for him!
But now I have had the Moderna double shot and my decision is to wait no more. Wait for what? The end of the virus Worldwide or just in Brazil? That might take years. No, not me. I am willing to take some risks now and face whatever the consequences which, BTW, I think will be minor post-inoculation. I could be wrong. But that's the risk I am now willing to take which I wasn't willing to take pre inoculation due to my age.
The good news is most of us will have the opportunity to get vaccinated in the next few months, so waiting a little longer is not the worst thing in the world, but hey, my situation has changed so I am going, but my risk tolerance is such that if I were in my 40's or low 50's, I would not have waited out 2020. I would have travelled. But that is just me. Everyone is free to make their own decisions based on the data and their particular risk assessments.
One more thing concerning RJ & SP girls: I think a lot of them have already had the virus and had few if any symptoms. They are young & healthy! This is just speculation on my part, but herd immunity is real and it is occurring in the USA with the aid of the vaccine and in Brazil without. Just saying.
I still plan to play it relatively safe when I am in Brazil and not take too many risks, but when I am with a young, pretty Brazilian girl who looks healthy, acts healthy, says she feels good, then she probably is good, ha ha, for me. This is just a request for mongers with boots on the ground to keep us all updated in high resolution on the current state of closure, or lack thereof, of institutions of procurement. I will be coming down in May for the first time and I'm sure the situation will be changed by then but it will be nice to know how the various Termas, Privates, Boates, etc respond to lockdown orders in general-however transient they may be. It seems like there is a healthy trade in escort sites as well so I'm telling myself that would be a decent failsafe if everything else gets shut down. NB.That's right. Like you said, most people will be able to get their shots. While that still leaves a 5. 5% risk to contract the disease, the vaccine is said to protect close to 100% from severe forms, which is what any sane person should be concerned with, IMHO. There is one remaining issues though. If you test positive before your flight home, you'll miss your flight. Now I know many worse places than Rio to be stuck in, but if there is even a slight chance to lose your job over this slim possibility I'd think twice (not my case, though).
But even then, the CDC is waiving the testing requirement if you've been vaccinated within 3 months. And they may extend it if new studies show that immunity stays longer than that (and it probably does).

Congrats, on getting vaccinated. I hope to be soon. Overall I agree, If your vaccinated that changes the whole equation. I will once vaccinated assess my risk tolerance which also depends on the vaccination rate adoption of the city I plan to visit.

Apparently the Israeli government got a deal with Pfizer to vaccinate everybody in the country on condition that we close the country off so that the effectiveness of the vaccine on 9 million people can be studied. With great sadness I'm leaving Brazil after 4 wonderful and joyous months. I've used this site a few times (as well as the local ones) to devour intel and for that I am extremely grateful. My two cents worth after 4 months in this incredible country:
Where to stay.
I was based in Santa Teresa for 2 months, mostly because a friend lent me her beautiful apartment there but also because it's a great area (it's like Lisbon) and ideally located for central, which is a 5-10 min taxi from Santa. I've spent the last couple of months in Sao Conrado (in an airbnb) which is also ideal as it's 10 minutes taxi to Barra or a quick subway or taxi (15-20 minutes) to Copa. Sao Conrado is the optimal beach location I think (and Carioca friends back this up) being similar to Barra (incredibly safe, clean, etc) but much closer to other interesting areas (Leblon, Ipanema, Gavea, etc) - and it has one of the best beaches in Rio. Copa and Ipanema I find too hectic, the chances of petty crime are high there. Each to their own.

Can be useful at times, if you filter to see only those with reviews you can be very sure of great service, if not it's 50-50 if they're real or provide half decent service. Other things being equal, you might expect more sophistication from a R$500 GDP, not necessarily more hotness. Performance-wise, they might know better the buttons, emotional and physical, they need to push to keep you happy. That may or may not be something you're willing to pay a premium for. I've had great performances from inexpensive girls (this is Rio, after all), but then I don't mind giving directions when I need to. So if you're just interested in a physical aspect of a job, I don't believe the difference in price is worth it. However, if you want to talk and feel the connection (illusory, as might be), and maybe take her out for dinner and expect she'll know not to wear hooker clothing to a nice restaurant, then the higher fee might be worth it.

I should have added that, if I wasn't here in Rio with my girlfriend (yikes), I would almost certainly be living a happy life in Transamerica, just not sure she'd appreciate its charms I've been there often and it is a magical place. Haha yes I haven't done any business here (yet) but I can imagine the upside in their character could become downside very quickly. But wow there's so much here that I love, E. G I've been to the federal police 3 x times in an effort to extend my visa, this should be super easy and done online but of course in Brazil it is bureaucratic and slow. Santa definitely varies depending on which part, the lower area around Lapa is extremely sketchy (e. G. My taxi was bombarded by cracked-up lunatics trying to pull me and driver out of the car to do god knows what on a Lapa street at 1 pm!) but I was living on the top of the hill near the famous Aprazival restaurant. This area is quite upmarket and super hip, there are great restaurants / bars (Bar do Gomes and Bar do Minero being classics) and it is super safe. Interestingly, BOPE's (the Rio special forces police) HQ / training ground is on that hill so a) you hear them training with automatic weapons, grenades, etc. All day and night b) it keeps it pretty safe as these badasses are often cruising around.
The only real downside of Santa is that the beach is min 20 minutes away, and if you're in Rio for a holiday you kinda want to be near the beach, right? If I was to live in Rio I'd consider Santa though as property is cheaper and it's a cool area.

Grumari. Further thoughts, lessons learned.
1. Waterproof everything. Those neck pendants with a compartment that is clear for a cell phone are essential, as are the GoPro scuba housing fixed with a length of 550 parachute cord to make it a pendant too. Both of those items I kept with me in my "shoulder holster" hiking buttpack (local brand trilhas and rumos, bought on Rua Alfandega between Uruguiana metro and 502, the scuba dive shop where you can also buy a spear gun and get your james bond on if you happen to not have a Walther PPK or Glock 43 size pistol; in the police shop across from the Federal Police station on Rua Gomes Freire you can also buy a plate carrier for body armor (lowest one was 180 reais), a cattle prod shocker for 75 reais), and a civil police golf shirt). I took out all my peripherals, like earphones, bluetooth phones, etc, and laid them on my Bombeiros Militar shorts when I went swimming. It's not that I don't trust Monique, but I don't trust Monique, or, for that matter the rest of the locals on the beach. Monique doesn't have a cell phone, and much as I like her ass and pussy's resemblance to the pornstar Monique, that indicates that she probably has been a theft victim; that and the kind of endearing, but slightly tweaked look on her eyes and smile that looks like she has taken a punch or two, which breaks my heart as her lover, but which again, indicates that she's not going to win a fight to protect my property. I did forget my rio lifeguard cap, but makes a nice part of the essentail beach gearlist; the red boonie cover grupo maritimo is best for sun days, and has the added benefit of not being a negative in any sense to the criminals, which the bombeiro militar cloths might be. Grupo Maritimo is just the coast guard, there to save lives on the sea, ditto rio lifeguards.
2. OK, the reason I mention this is because being nekkid is not optional on the praia nudismo. A man from the association in a green ball cap and nothing else comes up to you a few minutes after your waiter or waitress (there were nude waitresses, which is something I could get used to; just need to make it only females nude, not both sexes) gets your beach chair and umbrella and basically says, take it all off, and it is posted when you go in that past this point everything is nude. Well, I was one of about 8 guys there with a nude girl, like bringing your own bottle of wine to the party.
3. Monique, who has a 6 face, has a 8-9 body. She's a 23 year old dopple ganger for the black pornstar monique. My uncut sausage loves her holes, and that's all that I really care about with respect to callsign monique. These sandals work great, and one can swim fine in them.
5. So there you have it. Oh, of course I wore swim goggles, and if you want to take underwater pictures of your girl, I recommend taking two pairs of swim goggles, but that is extra credit and a digression.
6. As far as nude beaches go, monique informs me that there is also a nude beach on Ihla Governador near GIG airport, but of course I would not swim there. Of course, swimming was awesome at Praia grumari, to include making out, having some underwater sex in the surf. It's a really nice beach as far as swimming goes.
7. Recreio in general and that area around Grumari needless to say is super high risk as it is locals only and high crime. I only carried one of my 3 cell phones having left the others in my room under lock, which is how ISG mandingoblack rolls, and is a rule that bubba boy's guide recommends (only carry stuff you can have stolen in high risk areas, and if you are threatened with a weapon, be ready to just give up the stuff). My "shoulder holster" pack has a capacity of about 2.5 liters, enough for a 750 ML bottle of Jameson's as I mentioned, as well as a sheath knife. But I am probably not going to get into a knife fight to keep my stuff if a criminal threatens me with a knife, and definitely not with a gun.
8. Monique was my guide, of course, and she doesn't want me to get robbed either, since that's her ride back, and in the event, it all went fine.
9. No photos are permitted of course, so you have to be careful about taking pictures of yourself and your girl. Best to take pics in the surf, and to sit back near the rocks for this reason.
During the research phase of my trip planning I became interested in Restinga the Marambaia and Praia Grumari due to my preference for more natural beaches and a desire to get away from the crowds. The pictures synced it. So I have rented a car for my last weekend in Rio before I hit SP. I plan to rent a car and spend a day or two on Praia Grumari with a favorite new girl on the 2nd day. Restinga the Marambaia also caught my eye, but sadly is not open for car travel. I wonder if people are allowed there by boat? As for Ihla Grande, that beautiful island will have to wait for a proposed 2nd trip in October which is looking more likely every day due to the slow roll out of vaccines in LOS.

Since Monique enjoyed running around butt nekid, and we banged before and after back at my place (and swam around and bumped peepees), I had a good time, but I would only go back with a girl. If you make it down as far as Grumari, you may as well make a few days of it and go to Ihla Grande because you're halfway there.

I've found Rio to be pretty safe if you're used to big city life. I've lived mostly in London, NYC, and LA and Rio doesn't feel any more dangerous than those sorts of cities most of the time. Petty crime is a MAJOR issue around Ipanema, Copa, etc. Basically anywhere there are tourists. Phone snatching is a daily part of life here, but again, it is in London, NYC, etc too (I've had my phone snatched twice in London / NYC). Obviously the danger rate goes WAY UP if you venture into favelas, this is such an obvious truism that it seems silly to even mention it. Gavea, Jardin Bontanico, Sao Conrado, Barra. These are extremely safe places where one would be unlucky to experience any sort of crime.
It's hard to gauge the risk, eg rich carioca friends of mine have fully bulletproof cars, the doors and windows can withstand fire from automatic weapons. However none of them have ever had to shelter so I think paranoia runs a bit wild here. The rich were scarred by the era (I think 80's /90's) when a lot of rich people were kidnapped in Brazil (like much of Latam). People in the rest of Brazil often recoil in horror when you tell them you'll be in Rio, they think it's a hellish danger zone. My experience having spent 5 of the last 12 months here is that it isn't that bad!

On the other hand 2 weeks ago was my brother's very first time in Brazil. Within 5 minutes of arriving, like 10 am he went to walk on the beach with an 18 K gold chain and pendant with 50 diamonds around his neck. He no longer has it.
It has been said 1 million times on here how to minimize risk. Me 20 years most dangerous slums in the world at all times of night and nothing. Am I dead? My brother 5 minutes in the posh part of town and he is a statistic.

When the Covid stuff got going good I was at my place in Thailand. Thailand only had 3000 cases and 58 deaths during the 7 months that I was there. Well I'm only one month in Rio, I stay Copa / Ipanema. I feel really safe here. I was walking around alone or with friends on the beach after 00.00 and I really don't see a point why someone would come to me now and try to rob me. Hit me up. I live in barra. I have not really tried the barra prives, but the prices sound high. My gut instinct based on my 1000 posts (with my alter ego patmarbeleza1) is that Recreio may have best cost benefit. I import my bunda from centro termas and prives as a rule.

My guess is that it might all be true, depending on who you are and your luck. Forget Babilônia!
There is absolutely no risk of getting robbed in Babilônia. The problem is that two favelas share the same morro, Babilônia and Chapéu Mangueira. They are run by two different gangs, CV and TCP.
