Long time, no post. I am living in Sao Paulo now. Have been here most of the last two years. I have not been active on this forum because it is mostly first time visitors and there is not much value for me. I tend to read gpguia, the local Brasilian forum for foristas (punters).
Anyway, I just thought I would throw out an idea to see if there might be some mutual benefits. Well, the entrance is up to R$200 which will give you about 4-5 red label doses.

If you go to these clinicas, you can not hang out for long periods of time like in a Rio terma. Most clinicas will offer you something to drink while you wait to see the line-up. If you don't choose a girl, you normally have to leave. But you can stretch out your stay by telling them you want to check out the girls that are occupied with clients after they finish. I believe all the clinicas that you listed above have the session (FS) built into their pricing. I would say the pricing would be from R$110-R$150. They price themselves pretty closely. There are other clinicas where you pay on top of the massage fee for extras. (ie. The Palms, FranceBel)
I have been told that Eu & Elas is the closest thing in Sao Paulo to a terma but since I have yet to visit it, I can not tell you how it is.
One post below yours, you will read about Bomboa, Scandallo and Cafe Photo. All pricey but should be experienced at least once while in Sao Paulo. If you session one time on site in one of these places be prepared to spend at least $R455! (ie. Bomboa = 180 entry + 75 room + 200 gdp)
Another boite that was great was Bahamas which was shut down after a bust and never re-opened a couple of years ago.

Taking a taxi downtown is not a mission impossible, the hotel staff can instruct the taxi driver (I have never found tricky ones) to where you have to go, but you have to have clear ideas on your destination.
A warning has to be given: it is not unusual that some moto mounted gang might stop vehicles on their way to the airporto to rob the occupants. Targeting foreigners, of course. Not extremely frequent but a possibility. I don't have records of taxis being stopped.

Clinics: It depends when you go to the clinic. There may have a line-up between 5pm and 8pm. Most of the grils working in clinics are between 7 and 8.5. You may find sometimes several 9 or if you're very lucky even a 10.
These places are safe and the staff working there is very sympathic. All the towels are clean (wrapped) and they will give a little soap bar or there's liquid soap in the showers.

How is the formule 1 on consolacao? not looking for breakfast, dinner just a room that is roach free. Also how is the area when you walk directly 3 blocks any direction?

Formula 1 hotels offer very basic accomodation. Rooms are sparsely furnished. To be honest, I don't even know if they are girl-firendly. As I have never book a room there I cannot say more. I know however that a couple a garota de programa live and received precisely in that hotel. Even if Formula One hotel offer very economic rooms they are roaches free and clean. For a small extra you can obtain wi-fi.
I know visually the district where it's located and I've passed several times in front of that hotel. Consolação is not the trendiest street in SP but, on the other hand you're not far away from Paulista and some good streets like Augusta or Bela Cintra where you can find good restaurants. It's not far from Centro (downtown); you can even walk the distance.
There are two privês on Consolação near the hotel (Relax Bar and another one which I forgot the name).

In that case Auriflama I wouild suggest hotels like the Real Castilha if you don't mind to be downtown. It's not expensive and on their Web site they list other hotels that are very affordable.

I'll go straight to the point. The fact that you are only four hours in SP (and moreover between 10am to 2pm) plys definitely against you.
A couple of years ago there were still decent venues in Guarulhos like for example Clínica Clean Life (which was located on rua Francesco Gonzaga Vasconcellos).
Nowadays the only (almost respectable) clinica I know in that region is Glamour Massagens.

Itaim Bibi is not close to Paulista. On the other hand (and that's the bright side of it) you're closer to Brooklin where there are a lot of very very good clinicas. In Itaim Bibi you located in one of the best district in terms of nightlife (non-pro) and restaurants.

On the other hand, if you intend to spend your two days visiting clinics (because it seems that is you game of predilection) then I would rather consider renting an hotel in Itaim Bibi or Vila Olimpia (see hotel links on another recent post). There's a lot of good (even very good clinics) in those bairros and or not too far from Campo belo, Novo Brooklin, Moema where you have also a good selection of clinics. In those bairros the night life is also fabulous and more safer than the other bairros closer to Centro.

also, tell the guy at the door that you want to go in first to take a peek (quero olhar primeiro), before you pay the entrance fee, which can range from 10-20r and includes a beer/drink or 2.
if they won't let ya in for free to look, tell them you'll pay 5r for 1 beer/drink to enter, almost always works.
sometimes the places can be dead on sunday and you can waste a bit of cash paying entrance fees at various places and finding no garotas or no quality.
best to take a looksy first.

the doorman is a chubby guy named garcia. he speaks english, spanish, portuguese.
he'll tell ya the scoop there.

pretty steep, especially for a sunday.
across the street from kilt is my love.
they'll always let ya in for a free look and sometimes the garotas are of similar quality as kilt.
if you decide to stay, you buy a drink for yourself, which costs about 25r.
at all these places, make sure you ask the drink prices for the garotas before you buy one.
sometimes a beer for them will only cost ya 5-10r but if they order a red bull or some other fancy drink, you could pay up to 60-70r just for their drink.
usually the garota earns half the drink price for herself, and obviously some of them will try to earn money quickly, ordering drinks on your dime.
there are plenty of cool garotas too, who have warned me of the prices, you just never know.

Yes, they are called clinicas o Prive' however. Average about 70-150R an hour. My fav... was Assahi across the river from the Hilton on unidas

Since you are staying at my favorite hotel, I will give you the following tips. Use Google to find the addresses and such, I don't have to time to spell everything out for you. But there are 3 very affordable places that you can walk from the Mercure. Prices I am quoting is for cash money, if you pay by credit card or debit card they usually add 10%.
1) Bijin (prive) it's #82 but I forget the street name. Search GPGuia.net as well. They open I think 10am-10pm. prices start as low as 40R=30mins. Last couple of weeks, the lineup was about 8-10 girls. Many have tattoos but not totally skanks as you might expect for that cheap price.
2) Clinica Washi - on the same street - you'll have to confirm the address number though. Lineup IMO was not as great as Bijin but the rooms I think is a bit better. I saw around 4-6 girls in the lineup at any one time. 120R=60mins.
3) Redway Prive. You'll have to walk a bit further and it down(?) a hill so on the way back it's a climb! Lineup is 6-8 girls. Starts at noon until 10pm. 90R=60mins. Nice rooms with real beds. Very friendly staff.
American Center Massagem is close by as well on Rua do Paraiso. Again check Google and/or GPGuia.
Everyone has their own taste so you will just have to put on your comfortable walking shoes and see for yourself whether the talent is worth your P4P money. IMHO, these places are the alternative to the expensive nightclubs which have great atmosphere and hot women!
If you are on the other board, there is detailed public transportation to get to Connection VIP. This club is far away but they are a good promotion - before 7pm the entrance is only 40R (minimum consumption) after 7pm is still OK at 80R. Women quote start at 300R (probably can go down to 200R) plus 80R room fee. In comparison, Bomboa entrance is now 200R. Girls asking for 400-500R plus 100R for the room.
I can't afford to party that way anymore so I stick with the prives.

A few weeks ago I was in Sampa again and I was working in the zone of Pompéia. So in the late afternoon I went to check the clinicas in that zone. I visited Clinica Aneesh, Clinica Shangri-la, and Clinica Shori. They are all in an area of 200 m. one from the other. The nicest house is Shangri.la, then Shori and then Aneesh. All of them have some nice ladies but Shangri-la is one step forward. All Clinicas have there own web site where you can have an idea of the house. Prices are from 80 to 150. I think there are a few other Clinicas in the zone but I couldn't check them.

You are perfectly right, Sao Paulo is a VERY large city and it may take hours from one side to the other when traffic is bad (almost everyday).
All hotels you mention seem to be not far each other, considering Sao Paulo distances, with the exception of Hotel Grand Corona, which is in the centre. Surely this area is not nice, whereas other areas seem ok.
Maybe you can just map the hotels and the venues you plan to visit and see where they are located and from there you can decide where to stay.
As far as girls rates are concerned, the 300 or 400 or 500 Reais you see mentioned in the forum I believe refer to a session of 2 or 3 hours not to just 1 hour.
So probably Brazilian girls are still cheaper here than in Europe.

Buses basically leave about every 20-30min. going between SP and Rio. They are all very competitive when it comes to pricing fares between SP and Rio, as this is typically their most popular route.
Pricing will usually depends on time of day you wish to depart and comfort level you with to ride in (ie., executivo, leito executivo, standard...etc). You will find very little difference in the pricing.
Personally, I like the front window seat of the top deck on a 1001 double decker buses. Great view going to and from Rio. Also I wouldn't waste my money on the leito executivo buses.

The title should explain most of the reason why I considered heading here. This is apparently the buzz on some of the local forums. I am not sure how much you know about Bomboa or SP in general, but none of the Boates are good on saturday night, except for the Augusta boates because of the general Augusta crowd on saturday is large. The other boates suck on saturday night as the locals have other engagements, the businessmen have returned to their home towns, and the girls are out of town. Tue, Wed, Thursday are the boate nights. There is a huge difference in the selection of girls at Bomboa or the other big clubs on Tue-Thur compared to saturday.
I think foreign visitors have to just accept that Brasil is not a bargain mongering destination at the high end of the scale. If you come to Brasil and expect to pinch pennies, then don't bother to go to the high end clubs. But if you want to see a club with > 50 girls there are not many choices outside of the expensive clubs. So the choice is yours, its all about expectations. If you want a bargain, go to the lower clubs and deal with the smaller selection. For a visitor with only a few days in town, they have to make a choice, spend the money and enjoy it, or lower your expectations and go to a cheaper place. The reality is that a strong Brasilian economy means more expensive mongering, unfortunately.

Good report from GFE Finder on Redway below. He is correct, it is one of the more popular and most respected prives in SP. I have been there a few times, I have gone with one of the local brasileiros who is friend with the madam and we had stayed well after hours drinking in the kitchen. Good time.

I am not sure how much you know about Bomboa or SP in general, but none of the Boates are good on saturday night, except for the Augusta boates because of the general Augusta crowd on saturday is large. The other boates suck on saturday night as the locals have other engagements, the businessmen have returned to their home towns, and the girls are out of town. Tue, Wed, Thursday are the boate nights. There is a huge difference in the selection of girls at Bomboa or the other big clubs on Tue-Thur compared to saturday.
This I did not know. This is good information to have and I thank you for clarifying. My previous visits were all during a weekday; maybe that’s why they went so well. I’m a bit surprised that the dichotomy would be that strong, though.
I think foreign visitors have to just accept that Brasil is not a bargain mongering destination at the high end of the scale. If you come to Brasil and expect to pinch pennies, then don't bother to go to the high end clubs. But if you want to see a club with > 50 girls there are not many choices outside of the expensive clubs. So the choice is yours, its all about expectations. If you want a bargain, go to the lower clubs and deal with the smaller selection. For a visitor with only a few days in town, they have to make a choice, spend the money and enjoy it, or lower your expectations and go to a cheaper place. The reality is that a strong Brasilian economy means more expensive mongering, unfortunately.
You are absolutely right that it’s getting more expensive in Sao Paulo and Rio at least, and this trend will almost certainly not reverse anytime soon, if ever. I do think I have a right to complain and warn people when prices exceed First World levels especially when the service is not better.
Personally, i think that the big clubs should offer discount entrance on Saturdays. They used to. Bomboa and Photo both offered 1/2 price admission on saturday but Bomboa no longer does, and not sure about Photo. I don't bother to go during the off days for this reason.
And I wouldn’t blame you for doing so.

If you want to hear the music loudly get close to the bandstand. If you want to converse without competing with the music you can stay further away. I like that freedom. I would have stayed, myself, as there were a few that caught my eye, but for a first time visitor who wants the best he can see in a short time, it was not worth saving R100 or even R200. I have been to Garden, which is a favorite of some veterans here, and it was a nice looking club. But it was midweek, when it should have been hopping and there were only about 30 girls there and they were no better than what I see at bomboa or photo or scandalo or connection. And the prices were the same or more. So I would take the 50 selection over the 30 selection anyday.
I am not saying that on any given night that Bomboa is the best place to go. But if you have to make a recommendation for 1 night to someone, I would say "it will cost you a lot, but you will have a lot more choice than other places" (other than Photo and Scandalo which are as expensive).
I am not "defending" Bomboa as much as defending the idea that if you want to go to a boate, then Bomboa is a good, imo the best, option. Except on Saturday and Monday nights. Although even then it is perhaps a better option than other clubs, just not as good as Tue-Thurs.
So all this leads me to the real question for you. Where would you suggest that a visitor go? That is what I really want to know from you? Which of those clubs or others are better for a person that only has a few nights in Sampa? And why? Obviously, it all comes down to cost-benefit. There are lower cost places, but if the girls are skanks, is that a good cost-benefit? If you want to do 1 girl than Photo is not an option. If you want to see 50 girls, then you have basically 5 options, maybe 6 if you are willing to travel to SBC. So what do you recommend? Calling an escort? when it comes to sao paulo, i have looked at the situation from every angle. the problem is that the comparisons are often apples to oranges. i also hate how expensive bomboa is, how formal photo is, how far connection is, how sterile scandalo feels to me, how few girls there are at the cheaper places. every place has its negative aspects. when i factor it all together and try to arrive at a good recommendation for a visitor, i am stuck saying "well, it depends on what you are looking for. ambience, choice, facilities, location, entrance fee, drinks included or not included in entrada, saida fee, room fee, girl fee. many factors to consider. to me there is no clear "best" boate because there are quite a few variables. a big drinker might spend more at photo because even tho then entrada is lower and there is no saida, the entrada does not include drinks. so if you buy a few drinks at photo, you may wind up paying more than the saida at bomboa. apples and oranges. on top of that you have to consider the day of the week. i would recommend casarao on saturday night, but not during the week. and bomboa vice versa.
maybe i am missing something, that is why i am pushing you on this issue. i am open to alternative perspectives. i understand that you may feel that the fkk in germany offer better value, i would not dispute that, if someone is looking for a "destination".
however, i would not recommend that someone make a special trip to sampa to monger, as it is expensive and things are rep001tered all over the place. but most people do not come to sampa to monger exclusively. they come because they have business and they just want to know the best they "value" they can find while they are here.

Since most of the people who read this forum are not Bomboa regulars and not everyone speaks fluent Portuguese, their experience with the staff would likely be closer to what mine was. Hence I think my conclusions and warnings regarding the staff are fair. And to clarify, even though the staff tried to speak English with me, I answered in Portuguese until they did as well.

I can’t recommend alternatives without knowing what specifically someone wants. Do you want to fuck Playboy models who may or may not give you good service with a heavy probability toward the latter? Do you want cheap, cheap, cheap? Do you want to see the girls naked before you consider fucking them? Do you want a place with reasonable odds of getting good service? Do you only have a short time to spare and need to be in and out quickly? My answer would probably change for each of these.

There seems to be a curse in that once I name a club to someone as having the world's best collection of optifucks, it gets closed down. First there was Club Bahamas in Sao Paulo. Then there was Club Riviera in Barcelona. I’ve been to K5 and found much to my disappointment that the prettier the girl, the worse the service was. You had to slide your scale below 6/10 before finding a girl who would even kiss, let alone allow DATY.

Believe me, I wanted to write a good review for Bomboa. That’s why I started my review the way that I did. I succumbed to the same thought process you just mentioned: a few nights in SP, best odds for a good time because of the high concentration of pretty girls.
There is a huge hole in this thought process, however: it does not take service or price into account. Bomboa fails miserably on both of these counts as far as I’m concerned. And yes, I hope readers remember this when deciding whether or not to go there.

Your clarifications are helpful. I will focus only on those that still warrant further discussion. Thanks for the FKK listing, I someday expect to have that pleasure. Certainly the FKK has the advantage of ethnic and national variety. I did go to one FKK in Berlin but it was a city FKK, not like the resort style that I have seen in the ads for the bigger FKKs.
Back to SP. See your answer to my question "What do you recommend then? " is the same as mine. "It depends on what you are looking for". It seems you did not provide a significantly better alternative for the high end "optifuck" in SP. That was and is my point.
Bomboa may be less affordable than you want or expect, but for optifucks there are not many alternatives, and when you factor everything together. Entrance, saida, drinks, transportation, room fee, girl fee, single hour or multi hour. Etc. The top 4 Photo, Scandalo, Photo and Bomboa are all outrageously expensive. I know some locals who favor Scandalo, some who favor Bomboa, and some who favor Photo and some who favor Connection. In most cases, the differentiator is ambience, which type of bar scene do they prefer. Because the girls come and go and actually move from one club to the other over time anyway. And I know other locals who swear they will never go to a boate and only go to clinicas and prives.
One boate, alternative is to go to smaller joints, entrances b/t 20 and $R80 and go from one to the other until you find one you like. However, when you factor in multiple entrances and taxi fares to go from one to the other, it may come out to almost as much as the big boate.
I really think you are e overstating the "service problem" at Bomboa. You had a negative service experience, but lets hear from other visitors before coming to a conclusion about this as a trend or not.
I was not asking for myself, as I have my own formula, as do you. I was asking mostly because I show some visitors around once in a while and I want to show them the most satisfactory places. Your standards are perhaps out of skew with a lot of other SP visitors b/c your benchmark is the FKK scene which is one of the best in the world.
To me, there is no magic formula either. However, if you think about it in terms of law of averages, the more girls in a house, the greater the odds that you will see one or more that you really like. This favors the bigger boates. Second, if you can interact and chat with the girls, flirt and kiss even, that favors the idea that you will actually find one that is responsive to you. That again favors the boates, some more than others (degree of flirting, touching, kissing). So when I go to a boate, or recommend that someone go to a boate, it is really to maximize those 2 criteria. Number of girls and pre-deal evaluation. Maybe if you had been at Bomboa on a Thursday night when there are 150 girls in house you might have had a different impression.
If you do not want an optifuck and you are willing to settle for a collection of 10-20 girls to choose from, then there are indeed a tremendous number of places to check out.
As for Love Story, it is in a really seedy part of town, the crowd is very late night disco crowd, very druggy scene. I went only one time so my report is subject to some of the same things I criticize in yours. When I went the place was packed but I only saw one girl that I considered "hot". The rest were ordinary or worse for my taste. For people who like the disco scene it is a viable alternative, but go with the intent of dancing and having that type of fun. I would not recommend it for someone who is specifically looking for P4P only.

Sorry GFE Finder, I think you misunderstood my question regarding "what about when they close? " I think you interpreted my question as "what about when the boates close? " and you responded with Love Story.
I was not asking about "what about when the boates close", I was asking "what about when the clinicas and the prives close? ". That was my question, as their is no disputing that the clinicas and prives are far far cheaper option. I was merely trying to make you focus on the after 10pm options, in order to keep the discussion on "which boate would you recommend" rather than have it dovetail into a clinica is better than boate discussion.
... So, what would I say in summary?
This place has become Sao Paulo’s answer to Termas Centaurus. If either is worth visiting at all (and neither is), they would be worth going to just once to satisfy curiosity or to say that you’ve done it. Both places are overpriced and overrated with greedy and unhelpful staff and ridiculous policies. Oh sure, you’ll find pretty girls there but the smarter thing to do (if possible) is to get numbers and meet outside of work just to avoid going to these awful, awful places.

The place is no Playboy Mansion, nor overly-elegant, but the staff is nice and honest, the place is decent, especially when they open the back bar on the busy nights, and you can find some gems.
Be advised that drinks for the garotas can be expensive. The garotas earn half the drink price of about 40R.
I usually just offer them one of my cervejas (beers) and tell them I'd rather give them a little tip later. Works well.
I dig this place for hunting new amigas, and I don't feel like paying ridiculous prices.

Ricker, I agree that Casarao is a good place on Friday / Saturday night for a cheap fuck and a reasonable selection. I would not say that the girls are "just as beautiful", there are SOME hot girls in Casarao, but imo the average looks are significantly lower than the elite clubs. But you are only screwing the ones you like, so a few is enough.
However, if more folks go to Casarao it will be impossible to get in the door. It is already over crowded on a Saturday night. The difference b/t Casarao and the elite clubs is that Casarao is like a college bar, beer on the floor, music so f'n loud you are for sure suffering hearing loss by just being there, a crowd so dense that you have to plot your way across the floor by pushing people out of the way. To get to the cabin rooms you literally pass thru the girls dressing rooms , lol. The time in the room are 40minutes, not 60 i believe. Rooms are 40R , girls ask for 125, not sure if you are getting the girl to agree to 80 when you suggest 125 including room? Whatever, that is small difference either way.
Sure, Casarao is a good option for the experience described above. I went there and did 2 girls a few weeks ago, and both were quite good. It was definitely a better value than the higher end clubs for saturday night, as I said below in my reply to GFE Finder.

Then why keep asking me for specific alternatives? It's a pointless question, for exactly this reason. No place will solve every monger's need. I can't recommend the alternative to Bomboa because there isn't one. I can only tell you that it's a waste of time and money in my experience.
Sao Paulo is a big city, there are plenty of other places to take your visiting friends. Just ask them what they want, not what I like!
However, if you think about it in terms of law of averages, the more girls in a house, the greater the odds that you will see one or more that you really like. This favors the bigger boates.
You are making an argument for selection quantity as a criteria. Once upon a time, I agreed with this logic. However, since most guys will typically only do 1-2 sessions/boate visit, all it takes are 1-2 quality ones. This is why I'm more focused on reputation and board research rather than simply defaulting to the tourist havens like Bomboa.
As for Love Story,... I would not recommend it for someone who is specifically looking for P4P only.

BTW, Bomboa can accomodate 100. 150 ladies. I don't know why you need be so skeptical on that point, as it seems unnecessarily challenging to an otherwise reasonable debate. Point well taken, the word foolish was a bit harsh.
I'd give Casarao more of a nice 'Steak and Shake' feel as opposed to Burger King, and Bomboa more of the over-priced fancy steakhouse in town that sometimes you just say WTF and visit.
Tough for me to want to pay 600R ttl for entrance fee, hotel fee and a short time with a garota.
I normally like to enter Casarao on the busy nights no later than between 11 to 1130 PM, get a seat at the bar next to the entrance and watch the garotas coming in and out of the dressing room.
You're right though, the place gets quite busy and crowded later, but that's when I split anyway.
I've met some real cuties there and have gotten numbers off girls for future fun at the hotel, though I do in house occasionally.

I think you are missing the point of my query. I know what is good for me. I have done my homework, I have visited nearly every place there is to visit in SP. I'm the one who told you that Bomboa on a saturday night is dead. I have a list of all the places I like and the ones and MY reasons for liking or disliking each one.
Sometimes the recommendations on this board and the local boards are spot on, and sometimes they are way off imo.
Example - the local monger board has consistently high marks for MM Club. This is about as far off the tourist track as you can get. This is a mid range local boate that routinely gets positive marks from the local mongers. I went 2 times, with visiting friends. Both times my friends were underwhelmed and wanted to leave right away. The entrance was $R20 , there were 10-20 girls, the place was spotless, very clean, far cleaner than Augusta places, but the girls were very ordinary.
I can give you plenty of examples of low end and mid range places that have good reviews but I have been there, seen them with my own eyes, and I would not fuck any of the girls in there FOR FREE. Not one. There are a boat load of boates down at the bottom of Ave. Sto Amaro, supposedly "good value" boates. They are full of uglies. I'm sorry, but that is not a good value unless you are desperate.
You tell me, "ask your friends what they like". You know what most guys say to that question "take me to the place with the best girls". That is what they say.
I was trying to get you to compare and contrast because as someone who did not like Bomboa, I was curious what you do like. Understand? You are an interesting case because you have been to Bomboa and were not happy. That is why I found your review interesting. I thought, "aha ... let's see what this guy does like".

By reliable, I mean, that there is a good chance the place will have some decent girls.
Connection is borderline b/t mid range and high end. The entrance meet the mid range criteria, but it is so far away that you spend at least an extra 40 - 60 on taxi, so that pumps up the "real" cost. And forget about take out from Connection b/c the saida is even higher than Bomboa.
These nearby streets have between them between 20 and 40 spots that you can check out for a small or no entry fee. The touts that represent these places may actually allow you to take a peak inside before you spend the 7 to 10 reals entry fee for these excellent value venues. Anytime I spend time in Sao Paolo I try to go to the area at least once. My first experience with a GDP in Brazil was in this area and, yes, on a scale of 1 to 10 she was a 10! I never saw her again even though I kept going back looking for her. They can be hit and miss. However, if you take your time, I am sure a lady for anyone's taste can be found at these places.

Okay, the reward for reading you guys' extensive dialogue is that I can press you on the above points. Could you provide more detailed reviews of these places?
Most of my Sampa reports concentrated between '05 and '08 with a smattering in '02 and even fewer recently revolved around "Deep Augusta." Maison and New Maison, the sauna place (that was as hot as a sauna throughout), the glitzy place next to that, and Night-something were all a lot of fun, especially with a wingman or 2. Which places are the most fun, now??
Back to the other side of town, there were a couple of "okay" places east of Santo Amarro on Enrique Petroni. The first one on the right was better, but both were fun enough. Are they still in business? Cafe' Brasil and Kalila, I believe. Any recent events?
On the nighttime subject... in Sao Paulo, when the exchange rate bottomed last time, my pattern changed significantly. I found spending 120R at Clinica Kin (or the equivalent) in the day for an hour followed by legitimate fun checking out the robust nightlife scene in the Olympia area (or the equivalent) made the most sense for all-encompassing fun.
Be there a week from today for the first time in a good while-- looking forward to it!

I ending up staying at a hotel called Bourbon Convention. It's in the Moema section of town, walking distance from a few good clinicas (see Carina's below, though their website isn't working today). Cost was about $120 US through booking.com including breakfast. It's comparable to an older Hilton but still in good shape. It's next door to a large shopping mall and in the area are many good restaurants. You'd still need a cab to get to the boates at night but I'd bet you'd want a cab from just about any hotel.

Thanks to S.G. for the holiday tip. I called Redway on Tuesday, a holiday. The girl who answered said there were 4 girls working that day.
I took a bus from the Murumbi area that dropped me off right next to the Ana Rosa metro station. From there, it is only a couple of blocks down Verguiero, a left turn on Machado de Assis, and 3-4 blocks down the hill. The return walk is a little worse because it's up hill.
