Was in San Jose last week and every night in Taormina.
The price for most of girls was 100 usd, some very cute asked for 200 usd I declined, you can really find decent girls in Taormina.
One told me that in Jaco all girls want 200 usd.
If you have a room in Taormina you must pay 20 usd to bring girls in your room.
You can come in Taormina at 7 pm no need to come later I think, no need to drink, (of course except if you want) just talk with the girl and move with her.
Hope this information will help you.The word is that if you agree to pay an extra $10 a night for your room at the Taormina, then you don't have to pay extra every time you bring a girl up. This is important for all CR mongers to remember. On the other hand, I understand that there are no chica fees at the Cocal in Jaco whatsoever. What used to be a sports bar that was predominantly visiting Gringos, it's now predominantly Ticos. One of them may be the boyfriend of one of the many girls, who knows. I met one girl in the Taormina who had a 9 mm tattoo on the thigh with the word "Gangsta" above it. Yes, there are gang elements that go in the Taormina. Another, older woman I met in the bar, her sone was killed in a gang shootout. Last, there are drugs sold every night on the street outside the Taormina. I know of American's who go out and make buys.
Loss of Gringo revenue will put that place out of business.

You know I'll hate to say this but this is coming from an Latino man price and service goes in the opposite direction. As price increase the quality of the service goes down from what I've seen the chicas in Latin America charge gringo prices $100-200 for a rushed visit. And charge the locals on the average $25 but sometimes low as $10. Then again the cartel sets the price and it determined by what you pay in America. In Seattle WA you can pay up to $300 for a rushed full service visit but the average price is $200. I can't see myself paying that type of money for shitty service nor for a one time short visit.

In Florida plenty of politicians and police officers from out of state get busted all the time in prostitution stings. Since it happens so much most go to the Pacific Northwest for action. I really don't know how a man dominated society got to crave in with fear to women's rights groups whom are also Lesbians in. From what I'm seeing they're trying to eradicate prostitution all around the world and to be honest they just need to go suck a dick and choke on some cum a little.

The place was very booked although the restaurant was surprisingly empty in the evenings except for the free breakfast in the morning which was very good IMHO. Much better than the buffet that the SL was throwing at you.
I played poker from 8 pm till about 2 am a couple of nights. It is my understanding the game gets going around 6 ish. The language at the table was Spanish though some of the dealers did speak English and the table was polite to the non or minimal Spanish speaking players (me). Game was good and I won a little bit of money. There were 2 tables running every night and Friday they had 3 tables going. It is basically a 1-2 game although many pots were in the hundreds of dollars (they are playing with Colonies chips BTW). I did inquire about tournaments but they did not have any. There were jackpots for high hands etc. When I left at 2 am, there were still games running. I assume the game will run as long as there are players playing. Maybe somebody who plays more can weigh in if the game closes at a specific time? It was a very well run and friendly game when I played. Several chicas wondered in and out. One sat down at the table bought in for $200 and proceeded to get her clocked cleaned in about 30 minutes and left in a bit of huff. It was actually comical to watch. The "free quest" is based on the rate you paid. There is a mark up in room rates to get you the free daily guest. After the free one, the fee is $12.

Does anyone have experience with towns outside the major places in CR? I have to do a last minute work trip to Canas, Guanacaste. It's a small town so not sure my prospects are good. Although it can be a bit cumbersome.That's correct; there is a room rate that allows one free girl per day and the normal rate where you pay the Xhosa fee. In fact, if you opt for the higher room rate, it explicitly says on your reservation that the first one is free. It's not that you're going to get a free girl multiple times to the room. Only yhe first one is free.

However all that being said they will almost always quote in dollars, as in 100,150, etc. So know your exchange rates and you can say. But I only have colones will 45 mil work for you. For example. There is no advantage to them to actually get dollars, unless you give them an advantage. There is no black market where they get more for US dollars for example. They have to trot off to the bank to do the best, or they use the dollars to buy something in a gringo hotel or club. But they know that the exchange process is costing them something.

Well I made it to the Taormina last night and here is my adventures so far. Thanks Frenchie and Zeos for the tips on currency. I bring cash with me on these trips. I stopped by the currency exchange at the San Jose airport and their rate was terrible I would have lost 20% value so I declined.
Got here at around 10 pm Saturday night and got checked in, then went to explore the hotel. There was some sketchy things happening out front and the police were involved, so I stayed inside. Note that there is no smoking indoors here which is a bummer since I like to have a cigar and watch the ladies till I pick one. Casino is relatively small but has all the things. I exchanged a litte USD for Colones in the casino, not a favorable rate but I said eff it and went ahead. There were quite a few girls all over the Tao and they ranged from a 0 to about a 7. My preference is the girl-next-door type, thin with small naturals. There were a few of those here that were prospects. I ended up chatting with a girl named V, she asked for 150 and I switched to Colones and offered 50 K, she countered with 70 K and I said fine. Dong the math later I think I would have been better off sticking with dollars since I got nailed on the exchange and paid full price in Colones. Took her to the room and had a good experience, she had a smoking body and did all that I asked. Her enthusiasm level was a medium though so probably wouldn't repeat with her, but I got her number.
Sunday morning I went on an adventure that was against good judgement but worked out okay. I had played around on Tinder before coming and chatted with a 24 year old that looked good in pictures. Turned out she was pretty far away, almost an hour drive so I initially told her no. But I didn't have anything to do this morning so I drove over and we had brunch. Luckily she was a total GND type and I really wanted to do her. She then proceeded to come up with an elaborate plan to take a bus to meet me later after arranging for her friend to watch her baby and asked me to give her money first. I declined and said we go find a room now and I will give you money, so that's what we did. It was a good time, but several hours invested in what ended up being a quick session in an hourly hotel. 25 for the hotel and gave her 100.
Now back at Tao after a good nap this afternoon and deciding if I want to go downstairs and pick from tonight's menu offerings.

Was in Taormina 3 weeks ago you can pay in USD or Colones, I paid 50 000 colones for 1 hour, my friend paid in Usd 100 usd maximum for 1 hour, no problem.
Don't pay more.Given that you'll get a lower exchange rate for $100 in the casino, or any ATM; paying 50,000 C is a cheaper spend than paying $100 American. I would think the girls would rather be pain in colones rather than take a reduced amount in the exchange to their currency.

Well I made it to the Taormina last night and here is my adventures so far. Thanks Frenchie and Zeos for the tips on currency. I bring cash with me on these trips. I stopped by the currency exchange at the San Jose airport and their rate was terrible I would have lost 20% value so I declined..I always had colonnes with an ATM, no easy to find a change office in San Jos except in Bank.

The Marlin bar is still there, the lobby bar is still there, the casino is gone. There were no girls in there however, one girl I sessioned with said that she was in the old Delrey / the new LuxHigh Saturday night and there were about 10 girls in there. The lobby bar was open and there were four guy sitting at the bar having a drink. So you will be able to reminisce when you get down here.

I have not been to BB but SL is only vaguely similar to 'Casa Blanca' in MDE. Both are houses somewhat awkwardly cut up into rooms. In both places, the rooms vary in quality and selection is pretty important. This is reflected in the price much more at SL than at Casa Blanca, where last I heard, all rooms were the same price and the better rooms were first come, first serve. A couple of the rooms at the mansion are shared bathroom situations but none at SL.
The mansion serves breakfast, but has no restaurant, an important difference. SL serves food all day, decent food in fact, has a pool table, a crappy gym, a reading room, etc. The mansion has a bar with ever changing policies that is operated as a separate business.
Also, SL is located in a hood with other nearby venues and the mansion is a bit isolated. So, a plus factor for the SL is that chicas circulate more as opposed to showing up for the day and sitting around bored waiting for something to happen.
Hotel Taormina has a somewhat similar setup to SL, plus a casino if that appeals, and lots of reports say it's a bit better than SL right now. I observe that at SL, I can be gone for two or three years and when I come back, a lot of the same hookers are there. Last night in San Jose and planned a night out with a long time Costa Rican friend. He picked me up at the Taormina and we headed to La Cascada for a great steak dinner Perfect NY Strip for me, Porterhouse with salads and sides and a great bottle of Argentinian Red set me back $110. Incredible!
First stop Tango India. Entry fee was $28 US per person included two drinks. Great table by the stage. Hadn't been here since 2017. About 20-25 girls dancing and circulating, we ordered drinks and we are accosted immediately by a late 20's pair of 6's who we decline their company. We're scouting the entire place and it is about 2/3rd full of a mix of locals and gringos. The place for me is a total disappointment. I honestly didn't see a girl in the place better than an 8. My Tico friend is mildly interested in a girl who is tall thin mid 20's a 7 who speaks english. We buy her a drink and she gives us a rundown of the prices for FS in the boxes which start at $700 US according to her. We order a second drink. Take in a few more dancers on stage. The place isn't what it was. We pay the bill $100 and leave.
Next stop. Alcazar in downtown San Jose. I'm greeted at the door by my old friend, manager, waiter, bartender, part time pimpMeister Jaro. He waves the $10 entry fee and takes us to a ringside table. Also why no one ever reports about the low end casas? The ones where you spend $10 or less in SJ? Glad you mentioned Alcazar, that was one of my go-to spots and banged quite a few nice girls there. Do I have that right?
If so, I speak enough Spanish to get by, so that's not a worry. I'm also experienced enough in other countries to stay out of danger, as best one can. All that said, I'm still considering SL because my day time plan is to hit the pensions. Those pensions seem to be less than overt and seem to vary greatly on quality. Is the SL guest knowledge of these pensions enough to warrant staying at SL more than Taormina, which I plan to leverage during the nights?

Both hotels are within walking distance of each other and the girls rotate in between the two. I like Taormina better because you can actually get quality sleep in rooms on back of the building (room 420 my fav). SL rooms are loud due to the bar / lounge right outside the rooms. Taormina casino and restaurants has unlimited supply of chicas -however be ready to bargain and don't let a chica convince you to also 'invite her friend'. It is usually a meh deal. Both hotels have gringos and you will have no shortage of 'advise' but more importantly you don't need it to shoot fish in the barrel.

Inflation my friend. As much as US citizens blame Biden for inflation (he doesn't set Fed policies), the rest of the world has had much worse inflation than US including the Euro zone. Also dollar has been declining against CRC. At the peak it was almost 700 colones (Jun 2022). Today it is 508 colones to a dollar. I never ever negotiate prices in USD. Always negotiate in CRC. Few years back a top shelf chica from DR, SL, Taormina would easily go for 60 K colones which used to be $100 but now it will be around $125-30 (you don't get the inter-bank FX rate at retail shops).
I can also speak for Alcazar. I had one of the best young chica barely 20 for whom I suffered the high prices of Alcazar until I convinced her to meet me at day time at Taormina. Alcazar with entry fee, your drink, chica drinks and room upstairs will easily set you back $150-$200 USD and this was pre pandemic the last time I was in SJ. Yes there a much cheaper pensions in few blocks radius of Taormina for day time action where you can get a chica for 15000 colones (half hour) up to 40,000 colones for an hour for 6-8 rated chica (at best). There are several pensions in the center near the China town. I have done them all during my trips to SJ over the years (pre pandemic). You will always find a literal hidden gem or a diamond in the rough -for example a young single childless 20 years old flaka on the first day of her job 'iniciante' but it takes boots on the ground, lot of walking, going to wrong addresses and disappointments along the way. But if you want to shoot fish in the barrel, stick to Taormina and SL.

You wouldn't want to walk back from the Taormina with a chica because there's a hill that's difficult in FM heels. Cabs between the two spots are about 2 mil CRC. The point being that it's easy to hunt at the Taormina and drag them back to your cave at the SL.

I think unfortunately those $10 rates even for 15 minutes are long gone. I did a pretty good walking tour yesterday departing from Amistad hotel first going by Muses (closed), then Marruecos (also closed). Found 2 flabby chicas 3-5 looks range in Flamingo I believe quoting 15 K CRC for 30'. Found 2 better looking gals in Krisys quoting 20 K CRC for 30'. Then walked Calle 4 & Av. 9 area and everything there closed and shitty area so bugged back to Havana bar (former Zone Blue) and scored with great Colombian on-site for $70 USD and have her contact info for rest of my trip.

Since 2012, I always felt comfortable and welcomed by everyone at the SL, every year and sometimes multiple times in a year. All that changed this year when I booked a reservation at the SL, they confirmed, had my CC information a month before my stay for Super Bowl Weekend. Then cancelled it the Sunday before SB Weekend bc I only had booked for two nights and was headed to Jaco / Quepos to fish. I couldn't believe it. Spent multiple hours on the phone to no avail. Taormina was already booked so I ended up in Jaco 2 days earlier than expected and the Cocal found me a room (albeit double the going rate). I had the Taormina booked on the back-end of my trip for 3 nights. And honestly it was better than it ever was. I found the food better and more reasonably priced than SL now. The breakfast is much better IMHO. And honestly the bar staff hasn't gotten a lot better than it was. Although it is hard to beat the girls behind the bar at the SL who always remembered you!! I have fond memories of many wild nights at the SL. But.

Tao rooms are nicer, the hunting grounds are a casino so a dark loner vibe, the place to be at night if you want selection / variety. You do need to pay a chica fee though.
Castillo is just a straight upgrade over SL IMO. Castillo and SL have the same atmosphere (relaxed bar with a bunch of gringos) and both have sucky loud rooms. But Castillo has a much better food / drink deal and is closer to Tao so easier to get takeout. Neither castillo / SL have chica fees.

Those are the rates that the girls expect although they may ask for more. Not saying that some would not discount from there but that info is from a gal that knows and she would also ask 100 in San Jose but go for 80. And for sure there would be variation from those numbers, but that is the average for everything but the very top tier of say 5% of the girls that would ask for and get more.

Taormina hotel is very nice. My friend Elizabeth made sure I got the best room with one chica fee gratis. Plenty of hot water and if you tip the maid she will give you plenty of towels.

I changed my flights for my next trip to visit MDE (again) instead of SJO. While I really want to try a new location, my thoughts were:
- as far as chicas, I'm almost certain to choose a Colombian.
- while I'm not a penny pincher, that same Colombian is cheaper in MDE.
But what really pushed me back to Medellin were the daytime options. I love good massages by hot chicas. After alot of research, Monica's seems to be far and away the best daytime option in San Jose. But it sounds like it is the basic casa in Medellin, which is just not my favorite. I have 3 massage places in Medellin that I love, 2 of which aren't even FS. Spent the past 5 nights at the Taormina. Girls were a plenty from Wed. Fri, then things were quite quiet on the weekend. Takes a little longer of course being on a bus and there are stops along the way to let off and pick up passengers. But its an air conditioned, comfortable enough bus for super cheap. Leaves every 2 hours or so depending on traffic. Once in Jaco the final stop is near the best western but you can hop out before closer to Cocal on the main road. Can't beat the price, I use this bus for every Jaco trip there and back. 7/10 bus terminal in SJ. Also has a route to Nicaragua that I will take one of these days.

3 rainy days in San Jos. Stayed at the Taormina. Landed at about noon. I rented a car from dollar / thrift at the airport and headed for Taormina but with the rain and traffic I got there around 3 pm. I took a nap and woke up around 6. The NBA finals were on and I wanted to watch the game before shopping around.
Ratio was a ton of girls and few guys, lots of 5-7's with some 8's and few 9's. They stayed until Sunday morning and road back to SJO with me in my arranged ride. Cheap meals, fun times on the beach, even more fun in the bedroom whenever I (or they) were in the mood. For the entire time with me they each received $300 and were happy enough to stay in contact with me. I get fun sexy photos from them regularly and they have been eager to meet up again when I visit for $125-$150 for the entire evening.
I also have a regular I met on there that is $300 a week. Lunch w / Spanish Lesson. And 3 evenings a week. Every week I'm there. She's been my ride to / from the airport a number of times, taking me out shopping (Walmart / Food), and been with me on a number of trips.

Thanks.Use ATMs. No problem. At the airport you may need to go to the upper level, departures, but there are ATMs everywhere. And a heads up on staying at the international chain hotels. Some may not want you bringing in hooker guests. Especially if they look the part. So if you meet a chica at Taormina you could either go to a short term place in the area or, if you have a room at the Taormina there is a nominal fee to take her to your room. Or as you say, stay there but just say it is a different place.

I'd suggest staying at the Taormina. It's convenient and there are lots of Ticas available at almost all times of the day. I recently stayed there and I was surprised to find so many Ticas there at 10 am I tried a pension during the day once and was unimpressed. And I hear they're much worse now. Far better options are available at the Taormina during the day.
If you want a "cover story," just tell people you stayed at the Delta by Marriott San Jos Aurola, which is up the hill a few blocks from the Taormina. That way when you talk about things you saw around your hotel, they won't sound off to anyone who has been there. There's also ATMs at the very tall INS building three blocks from the Aurola. It has security guards around during the day, which makes it safer. I've heard airport ATMs have high fees.
If you're thinking about an Airbnb, be careful. Many are quite hostile to mongers, especially in area around the Taormina. Make sure to check the house rules. Some will outright say "absolutely no sex tourism allowed. " Many will require you to register all guests in advance, which can include submitting photos of their IDs. I recently stayed at one near the Sportsman and it said nothing about sex tourism in its house rules or anywhere else, but there were signs saying absolutely no prostitution once I got inside. Luckily I had "registered" the only Tica I see these days when I'm in Costa Rica. Even then, the woman that checked us in questioned me. I told her she was the one whose ID was submitted ahead of time and no more questions.

I am very new to the forum but not for the hobby. Heard SJO gets colorful around Halloween time, any one experienced personally. Thinking of traveling next month and want to make best use.I was down there starting in late September, and they were already putting up decorations! For a comparison. I picked up two ticas on Seeking for an entire weekend. They were in San Jose and took a bus to Jaco to meet me on Thursday afternoon. They stayed until Sunday morning and road back to SJO with me in my arranged ride. Cheap meals, fun times on the beach, even more fun in the bedroom whenever I (or they) were in the mood. For the entire time with me they each received $300 and were happy enough to stay in contact with me. I get fun sexy photos from them regularly and they have been eager to meet up again when I visit for $125-$150 for the entire evening.

It doesn't matter how few mongers there are relative to the number of girls. The girls are going to pressure each other to maintain the price level.
Your best bet was late at night when the place thinned out and the girl was looking at a nice, little payoff versus nada. Keep her away from what other girls remain and you will do better. There were also some smaller venues away from the major ones where the talent was less consistent, but not as rigid on price negotiations. At that point, it might not be worth the time to hunt.

I'd suggest staying at the Taormina. It's convenient and there are lots of Ticas available at almost all times of the day. I recently stayed there and I was surprised to find so many Ticas there at 10 am I tried a pension during the day once and was unimpressed. And I hear they're much worse now. Far better options are available at the Taormina during the day.
If you want a "cover story," just tell people you stayed at the Delta by Marriott San Jos Aurola, which is up the hill a few blocks from the Taormina. That way when you talk about things you saw around your hotel, they won't sound off to anyone who has been there. There's also ATMs at the very tall INS building three blocks from the Aurola. It has security guards around during the day, which makes it safer. I've heard airport ATMs have high fees.
If you're thinking about an Airbnb, be careful. Many are quite hostile to mongers, especially in area around the Taormina. Make sure to check the house rules. Some will outright say "absolutely no sex tourism allowed. " Many will require you to register all guests in advance, which can include submitting photos of their IDs. I recently stayed at one near the Sportsman and it said nothing about sex tourism in its house rules or anywhere else, but there were signs saying absolutely no prostitution once I got inside. Luckily I had "registered" the only Tica I see these days when I'm in Costa Rica. Even then, the woman that checked us in questioned me. I told her she was the one whose ID was submitted ahead of time and no more questions.

I have a couple of reports to give, but one topic I don't see mentioned is Spanish only vs English speaking girls.
For starters, I'm not Latin nor am I Caucasian, but I do speak elementary Spanish. Elementary Spanish, enough that I go to Tijuana and no problem communicating with the girls and doing what I do throughout the city. So my perspective might be a little unique, but I tend to think this would extend to any non Latin. You guys tell me if that's true or not after this.
What I quickly noticed is that ONLY English speaking girls would come up to me and usually these girls are annoying and are seasoned pros. You tend to seem them over multiple days. Some of them are still messaging me trying to get me to see them but I'm already long gone.
Spanish only girls never come up to me. Even if I smile at them, sit next to them, they will just ignore me until I start speaking Spanish to them and suddenly another avenue opens. I ended up pulling 5 girls, 4 of them were Spanish only girls. They were all amateurs, usually working a hair or nail salon. One of them was actually still wearing her salon frock! The 5th one. Fill up your grocery cart at a supermarket, even a reasonably priced place, and you will be paying a couple of hundred dollars easily.
Anyway, if you were in Taormina the stories about it being the 4th time or whatever are mostly just stories. They know what stories sell, but in any case if they are renting their bodies they are not amateurs. Although the distinction is meaningless so you can think of them in whatever way you want.

So I wasn't intending to indulge on my trip last month. I was there for a week of diving, but due to some poor planning I had a night to spend in San Jose on the way out before my flight. So I decided to try Taormina Hotel Casino. I wasn't expecting much judging from the local women I had seen during my trip. They seem to like their women big and curvy. Not really my type. I checked in around 5 pm. OMG, blow my mind! There were dozens of gorgeous women all over the floor- around the lobby, at the tables, in the bars, restaurant, everywhere. And I don't know what other members have been reporting but 4 out of 5 were stunning. I showered up and head straight back down. I only had the one night.
I started off rather gingerly since it was my first time here and didn't know how things worked here. For reference, I do most of my holidays in Asia, so I'm more than familiar with Bangkok, Philippines, Jakarta, Cambodia, etc etc.
So I head to the bar counter, ordered a drink and then walked around a bit. I really didn't need to worry about anything. Just made eye contact and smiled at one that caught my interest. Sadly there is little reason for me to visit Costa Rica and I came back complaining about San Jose. So I have to manufacture some sort of reason. I. e. Oh. I didn't get to visit the volcanos or the beach and try to be convincing.
I've played in 8 countries in east and southeast Asia, Mexico, Brazil, Dubai, Germany, Austria, US. I'm most familiar with the scenes in Tijuana, Germany and Hong Kong.
The closest analog I know of or have experience is Hong Kong Club in Tijuana Mexico. You have a hotel, bar, restaurant and a strip club. The biggest difference is that in the Taormina, the girls are just another patron. While in HK Tijuana, they are like independent contractors and must meet quotas to work there. They have to get customers to buy a certain amount of drinks and they have be at the club for certain hours to remain on the roster. At the same time, the management aggressively pressures you to buy drinks for yourself and whatever girl you are talking too. These two downward pressures creates quite a stressful environment for both the girls and patron, where there is a constant pressure to sell and buy. The customers are constantly being fleeced by both the girls and management whether you are in the club or in the hotel. In comparison The Taormina is so laid back and enjoyable compared to HK Tijuana without the downward pressure.
If there's another big factor I will say, it's the clientele. Tijuana is a border city with San Diego and then only 2 HR drive away from LOS AngelesThis makes it accessible to anyone with a few hundred bucks to blow. So when the warehouse clerk get's a paycheck, he and his warehouse buddies can drive across the border to spend a few hundred bucks and feel entitled. You can even take the Hong Kong shuttle from the border directly the club and back. Some guys never ever even go off the block. Fro the most part, you don't even need a passport to get into Mexico.

The info I provide isn't my guess. I've been to Cr over 10 times, had mult relationships and friendships there which I'm still in touch with. Both personal and Professional.

Those are pensiones. 360 is gone. Others come and go and they are all similar. They are now in the 30 to 40 mil per hour range, or 20-30 for half hour. And $100 is the asking price generally at the Taromina and Sportsmens. Or more for a non brothel type date.
The pensiones may have some good girls sometimes, but they don't usually last long. The working life for most of the attractive ones is months not years, with a few exceptions. When you make your living from volume of business, say 10 mil per hh session, times 10 per day they still do ok, but they prefer to have guys take them to a hotel or whatever for 100 or 120 dollars after a while. And if they are popular they can have a large client list and that can work.

So. I also lived there and for a while was going back and forth religiously. I met one girl who introduced me to many and I got friendly with a couple ladies I got to know in depth. I. e. Meeting their fams, and stuff along those lines.

About a week and half in SJ, migration stamped my passport with 180 days instead of 90 days bc I told them I was here on biz and will be here a while, which I am. I didn't know they started doing that and if some of yall received 180 days also me know. I don't mind since it means I won't have to extend.
Sportsmen was filled with gringos and ticas on Thanksgiving and day after. Beers, Wine, Football. Caught some good games, chatted with few and got some contacts. Same girls rotate to Taormina later on.
Taormina is filled with honeys late evenings to late nights. Took a couple so far, $100 HR rate and can negotiate extras or more time. I'm leasing a nice apt but prefer to go to a motel. Unless I have a GF here I don't plan on taking anyone to my main spot. Don't be surprised if you see your favorite Taormina girl in those getting pipped for $20 by 20 dudes, or even hotter girls. Drink prices are fair. Bumped into a nice club called Monaco, not on Gmap but next to hotel Solo Bueno #6 (love hotel) that you can search, see. 6. When I walk around, if I see those red lights and something that looks interesting, I just peep or go in and baam LOL. IDGAF.
Finally pensions. There are tons of them. Like maybe 100 or more in the city incl suburbs nearby towns. Wherever you stay, if you walk around and you see a front entrance that looks like a cheap motel and cashier window, and an "Abierto" sign in red light, it's likely a pension. Some have written signs that says "Ticas and Nicas" and their pricings. Like I've seen 8 mil /$16. They'll buzz you in and some may have 1 girl and others may have 10 or 20 depending on the area or time of the day / night. Basically they are like cheap motels with girls on site. When girls are new to the biz, or a friend invite them to work, those are the places they start to stay low key. Meaning you get lucky occasionally and meet dimes or super hot newbies in those. Before for the pandemic a friend took me to the really sleazy pensions on Calle 6, Pension Portuguese was one. It is in the red zone and it is a rough part of San Jose. Oh wow. I love that place in São Paulo. When I was referring to high-end, I meant the facility (bars, casino, lobby, restaurant). I'm staying at the lodge so I can only comment on the rustic rooms there.
But yes, Scandallo has top notch women. I have had some amazing times there.

Years ago, I had a unique experience entirely out of the ordinary placing me out of my depth. Only had one night before heading to mountains followed by beach. Arrived directly after flight, checked in, cleaned up, downstairs by 4. Met a dime piece, blonde (dyed), latter 20's, a buck at most soaking. Had fun even though we could only chat over translate. Hours at the bar, upstairs 11, late night dinner after. She texted the next day and ended up joining in Arenal for 3 nights. Highly recommend places with a private plunge pool. Only left the resort twice. Once for Tabacon and another for an underwhelming tour by horseback. No, I did not bribe her with some fortune to join the tip. Sidenotes based mostly on other SJ plus Jaco discussions. First, bus is really not bad if time is available. Yes, shuttles / taxis are convenient, very reasonably priced, and bus is much much slower. However, the bus is pleasant and scenic because, well, it's a slow vehicle and so comfortably pleasant in its own way allowing better views of the scenery on the way especially descending into Jaco. Second, food has never been terrible as many others experienced. Sure, it can be mediocre but I've had terrific meals on the main strip, Italian stands out, and Herradura nearby. Excellent tattoo artists in the area.
Been to the locations mentioned, high end is bit over for Taormina but relatively speaking you can say that. Rooms are serviced and maintained, clean sheets and they are ok to give you fresh towels as many times. But the biggest advantage is the ease of taking some one you like upstairs without any logistics is super comfortable. I found gems mid-day that are good looking and not negotiate much, also felt safe as long as you are inside the premises.

I went to pension Monica's the highlight of my trip, only two girls working. From other trip report experiences there's still a good time to be had at Taormina if you're upfront about what you want and how much you're willing to pay and don't make the mistake of paying the girls first as I did.

Brazil and Germany are my number 1 and number 2 mongering destinations in the world respectively, so I'm biased. But if I want to go somewhere with a full focus on mongering, then it's going to be one of those two. And if I liked Asian girls more, then Thailand would be on my list too.
Paying after in Costa Rica is and always has been the standard. A chica asking to be paid first is a huge red flag. If I get to the room and she asks for the money up front, I end the session immediately. I've had this happen twice, once at the Taormina and once at the Sportsmens. Hotel security will back you up. That's one of the advantages of staying at a Monger hotel like the Taormina or SL.

So yeah, do yourself a big favor and check out Brazil (SP & RJ) or start considering some other destinations further afield like LOS, Phnom Penh, or Jakarta.
IMHO, Costa Rica has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, I love the country, and I have been there over a dozen times, but IMHO San Jose is not in the top 10 of worldwide punting destinations even though I still fondly remember the 1st time I visited SJ, pre internet, sometime back in the last century and I accidently came across a small, Go Go bar called Colt 45 a couple blocks from downtown. The Colt 45 girls back then were ALL Ticas! Bad performance was unheard of and BTW Jaco was nothing more than a small, 2nd rate beach town, nothing like it is today. Boy, have the times changed CR.
If you search "night club" or "adult entertainment" in GMap you can find the strip clubs or pickup bars in town, most open late evening till 4-5 am. Golden VIP, Arcadas, Pantera Rosa (Pink Panther), Club Alcazar (old favorite), rates from 20 mil /$40 and up. Don't be surprised if you see your favorite Taormina girl in those getting pipped for $20 by 20 dudes, or even hotter girls. Drink prices are fair. Bumped into a nice club called Monaco, not on Gmap but next to hotel Solo Bueno #6 (love hotel) that you can search, see. 6. When I walk around, if I see those red lights and something that looks interesting, I just peep or go in and baam LOL. IDGAF.
Finally pensions. There are tons of them. Like maybe 100 or more in the city incl suburbs nearby towns. Wherever you stay, if you walk around and you see a front entrance that looks like a cheap motel and cashier window, and an "Abierto" sign in red light, it's likely a pension. Some have written signs that says "Ticas and Nicas" and their pricings. Like I've seen 8 mil /$16. They'll buzz you in and some may have 1 girl and others may have 10 or 20 depending on the area or time of the day / night. Basically they are like cheap motels with girls on site. When girls are new to the biz, or a friend invite them to work, those are the places they start to stay low key. Meaning you get lucky occasionally and meet dimes or super hot newbies in those. Right in the middle of centro they look a bit different, you'll see a stair with lights, music inside, and usually a gent will stand at the entrance to give you intel, one charged me mil /$2 to go up and look.I've seen these little "Abierto" windows for years and never heard of this. Do you think like even up in Heredia and Tibas this is going on? It would be very convenient for me. Also, do you have any of these American bar / club recommendations by name?

Why did I return to San Jose?
I returned to San Jose because I am running out of places to visit in Latin America. The last time I was there was in March 2010 and now I am revisiting the city in order to see what has changed since then.

Travel Insurance:
The SquareMouth web-site gave me over 50 quotes from over 50 different companies. I chose Trawick from National Mutual. It was for 5-days and cost $127.
All the money I quote is in Costa Rica Colon, unless you see the dollar sign.
I used CBX from Otay to the Tijuana airport and back. CBX round trip was around 38 bucks. CBX prices are seasonal. They have a low season, regular season, and high season. I crossed during the low season.
After clearing immigration at the Tijuana airport, I relaxed in the lounge for some chow and adult beverages. Returning, I used my Priority Pass to enter the Copa Lounge. The place sucked! The food was less than average and I had to pay for the adult beverages.
Flight:
I flew Aeromexico round-trip to San Jose. Each way, there was a layover in Mexico City. Beware of layover times at MEX! Make sure you have at least 1. 5 or 2 hours layover between flights at that airport! Between the four flights, two of them were delayed.
Immigration / Customs:
I did not have to fill-out any forms whatsoever coming or going from San Jose. I arrived there around midnight and getting through immigration took an hour. The agent did ask to see my proof of my returning flight and where I was staying; that was it!
Hotel:
I stayed at the Sportsmen Lodge. My room was the Oso Grande, pricy, but worth every Colon. The room was very quiet and spacious. I joined CRT for the 10% discount card, it cost $39 for a one year membership. Compared to the other hotels I stayed before, the Lodge just seemed more friendly and welcoming.
The bar / restaurant always had 1 to 20 chicas running amuck; depending of the time of day. The staff that worked the bar was pretty hot as well. Also, I did not need any bottled water in my room because the tap water tasted just fine. I would stay there again.
Communication:
I have the T-Mobile Go5 GPlus55 plan; no worries whatsoever.
Money:
I use the Oanda web-site whenever I travel. The currency in San Jose is Colon. When I looked at the exchange rate online, it was one US dollar to 496 Colones (basically 500). I found the conversion quite simple: If the price was 30,000 colones, I took the 30 and doubled it to equal $60. Many chicas wanted 50,000, so I took the 50 and doubled it to equal $100.
The US dollar was widely used in San Jose. Either way, I brought some cash with me. At the airport, I withdrew some Colones; just in case. I did not need to use any ATMs. My advice would be to only use US dollars; so much easier! But with taxis, smaller bills in Colones were quite helpful. Also, I used Colones in the pensions and some smaller bars / clubs.
Transportation:
The Sportsmen Lodge arranged for a driver to meet me at the airport; the cost was $30. Returning, I took an Uber and the cost was $18.
During my stay, I mostly used Uber and some taxis. Both were reasonably priced. I noticed in taxis, they had meters, but the meters were never used.
Spanish:
English was spoken at my hotel and by some Uber drivers. English was not spoken in the clubs / pensions, mercados, and by taxi drivers. The two chicas I brought to my hotel room from the Sportsmen's bar did not speak any English as well. So yes, knowing some Spanish would be very helpful.
Restaurants:
In San Jose, there was a butt-load of Soda restaurants. What is a Soda: A soda is a small, family-owned restaurant in Costa Rica that serves traditional dishes. Sodas are known for their affordable prices, large portions, and welcoming atmosphere.
I did a lot of research before I left and here are my thoughts on the food scene:
Furca. Outstanding.
Soda Tala #1 – Excellent.
Super Cholo Gigante – Very Good.
La Empanda – Very good.
La Casona Tipica – Good.
Overall, the food was good to outstanding. I only saw a few street food venders during my romp.
Strip / table dance clubs:
In each club / bar, I asked several questions and did my best to write down the answers. Thus, if I am wrong with any of my notes, feel free to chime in with the correct information.

Final thoughts on San Jose:
It was a seeking putas and eating good food trip. I was told several parts of San Jose were unsafe. The area around Pension Portugesa was quite shady, but not dangerous, IMHO. Other than that area, I thought the city was quite safe and I never felt threaten in any manner. But then again, I took a lot of Ubers throughout the city at night.
Would I ever return to San Jose? YES, I felt I barely scratched the surface of the city; especially the pensions and other places to eat. Overall, I had a great time! Would I recommend it to other mongers? Absolutely!
